Take CHM 2046 with Martin. You will be glad you did. He is by far the easiest CHM 2046 teacher out of all of them, and rather than cover a broad range of topics he focuses in depth on a few key concepts. He keeps lectures interesting with his humor and stories about himself, and his test are not hard if you do the suggested practice problems.

probably the easiest professor teaching this semester, grade wise. doesn't mean you'll learn the most, but still fine at teaching, though his style is a bit crazy. grades are only tests, quizzes, and final. tests are very manageable. 95 75 80 were mine, but doesn't really correlate to difficulty, just amount of studying. final was relatively easy.

He got mad every time we did well on a test, + made the next one extremely hard (avg on 1st one: 85, 2nd: probably 50% or lower, 3rd: 85%, final: probably 60%). maybe if we had failed the first one, the final (worth 40%) would've been easy. I took him in Fall 2020 during the pandemic, and he wasn't very lenient with anything. An international student had asked for an alternative time to take the final bc it would have been 5 am for her and his reply was "What is wrong with 5 am?" Only three exams that determined your grade that was loosely based on his lecture. NO CURVE btw.

Charles Martin tries to make the class fun online by doing random things at the start of his videos and changing the background often. However, he does little to no practice problems during class. This is problematic for test taking because he puts in math problems that you will have no experience with.

The class was pretty straightforward at least online, watch the videos, take notes, do the homework and review the notes. By following that simple formula you are guaranteed an easy A on the class. It is important to review the notes because a big part of the exam is based on facts he mentions during lecture. Overall very light chemistry class.

Worst professor I have ever taken. Does not do a single math example in his lecture, but puts 10 math questions on his exams. Doesnt record his zooms, so you are doomed if you cant attend.

Your entire grade is made up of three exams, each with less than 20 questions. Half the questions are calculation problems that are very similar to the textbook and half are about details he mentioned during class. Dr. Martin doesn't try to make this class hard, but the narrow room for error does. Can't say I learned much from this class.

Do not take him. If he is the only option, just wait until next semester. His exams are loosely based on his lectures and he does not record his zooms so you have to attend every class. Problems requiring math appear on his exam but he does not do a single math problem during lectures.

His lectures do not correlate at all to the actual material on the test. The textbook is just there because he is required to assign one but he doesn't use it (and contradicts it sometimes). He is not helpful, hopefully the TA can help you.

Don't go to class and watch the online lectures instead. For exams memorize the lectures and study the homework problems that require math and the class is not that bad

"The Colonel" is an okay professor. He goes on a lot of unrelated tangents and his lectures are messy and disorganized. Definitely go to class to learn his "core concepts" because you will be tested on them. Exams can be pretty difficult. There is no graded homework in this class so study a lot for the exams. I definitely recommend study edge.

The Colonel was one of my favorite professors at uf. He only grades off tests and quizzes which can be tough but I really enjoyed his lectures. He always has some new story to tell which was somehow related but made me laugh. I never expect too much from the chem department but he exceeded expecatations. 10/10 recommend. Go to lectures to do well.

Martin's all over the place but lectures aren't boring. Exams match lectures but there are a few things he expected us to know w/out saying anything. Only grades are quizzes/exams but they average all 3 exams and replace your lowest score w/ average (+same for quizzes). StudyEdge was helpful but go to class bc things he says are on quizzes/exams.

Dr. Martin seems like a good guy and his class wasn't unbearable, but he definitely had a bit of an ego that seemed to get in the way of his teaching. The class is based on 3 quizzes, 3 tests, and the final. Overall, you definitely need to go to lectures to pass this class, but his lectures are really hit or miss. GET STUDYEDGE!!

The professor gives zero homework, which leads to no practice problems for the exams. He also asks questions like what exactly did the professor state in class regarding a certain topic, or what analogy did he make. I do not reccomend at all.

This class is so easy but he makes it so meticulous with the structure of his exams. Questions are about little things he says in class, which is not too bad, however, he structures his questions like select all that apply which sucks. Not hard content though. Take it in the summer with Jacobs if you can. If not, he's manageable just annoying.

He asks some questions about random stuff he said on class, so, in other words NOT analytical chem questions. You can't even study much by the book because he contradicts stuff on there. At first i thought he was just an ok lecturer that tried to be funny but trust me, once you take his first test NOTHING is funny.

Dr. Martin calls himself The Colonel and the entire class is just anecdotes from his life. The tests are half confusing true/false questions about himself and half actual math and chemistry that he didn't teach us. One of the most frustrating classes I've ever taken.

Incredibly easy concepts, terrible teacher/exams. Take with literally anyone else. Attend lectures or you will regret it. 3 convoluted exams (17Q MC) are your entire grade. This class is a lesson in Charles "The Colonel" Martin and rather irrelevant to analytical chemistry as a whole. I felt more like a personal scribe than a chemistry student.

Genuinely felt like he didn't know what he was teaching and lectures were riddled with mistakes. Didn't learn much and going to office hours was a pain because the grad TA (tyler) was so condescending and rude. Just not a good experience at all.

No matter how hard you study his notes, whatever shows up on the exam is a tossup. Half the test questions vaguely resemble things he's talked about in class and half are from the homework but the provided HW solutions dont explain how to do it. Genuinely feel helpless. I genuinely dont know how he got accepted to teach at UF

Love hate relationship with The Colonel. On the one hand, he cannot teach, cannot write an exam, does not put much effort into any aspect of the class, and is an incredibly arrogant individual. On the other, you can truly tell he loves analytical chemistry and is a very sympathetic character. Overall, glad he is retiring but wish him the best.

Professor Martin was by far the worst professor I had during my undergraduate studies at UF. Professor Martin came into lectures late, unprepared, and riddled with mistakes. Exams included questions about his personal life - which he stated 1-2 times in class. Completely baffled at how he is still teaching, please take with any other professor.
