Ridiculously difficult tests riddled with trick questions. Watch out.
To give you an indication of how much I like him, my friend and I have re-named him very non-affectionately Profaggor McGodDamnDonald, PhDoodie. The tests are unbelievably difficult, and he can't go 1 lecture w/o switching up what he's trying to say.
McDonald makes the most ridiculous tests I have ever seen! I got an A on all the quizes, but the highest test grade I got was an 80 (without a curve)! Study up for this class....DON'T TAKE IT LIGHTLY!! McDonald is an ****!!!!

He just read off the slides....interesting material but he made it very boring.....not a very nice man in general.....
Boring. All he does is read off of his slides. It's basically a self-taught class where you can ask the teaching assistants questions once a week.
One of the worst professors I've had thus far! All he does is read off PP slides and do text problems which are worthless when it comes to the test. On one test a 50%=B and a 30%=C. Now,either he sucks @ teaching or UF grad students are retarded. U decide
i dont know how i passed with a c in the class. hardest class ive taken at uf so far.
one main word: ridiculous. I got an A quiz average, and the tests were insane. I have never taken a harder course here. The lab was great and I don't know what I would have done without it. I got a C and still don't know how I got even that.
Manigerial accounting was a sinch. However the Final was a killer!! McDonald is very straight forward and not veyr approachable. However you do not need to ask his help eveything is in and comes straight from the book. Next semester hes not teaching but will be the coordinator for the course.
Must say that this guy is one of the meanest profs at UF. Not only is he boring and dry, he's also not a someone you can talk to. He's test were fair except for the final on which I had to study for hours in order to get an A (major curve on it). Bad teacher, good book will teach everything you need
Class is difficult, so make sure to study a lot. Tests aren't too bad, but can be tricky. Try not to need his help or ask him any questions. He is the biggest d$@#head. He always seemed bitter and annoyed at the tests, very unpleasant.
This guy is one of the biggest jerks in the program. He is rude to students who ask questions and is just an unpleasant person in general. He isn't much of a teacher either.

not a good teacher but tests aren't too bad for a financial accounting class. you really do have to study though
He uses the powerpoint slides way too much. Most people do not spend the time necessary to do well in the class. Much easier compared to previous years, but a lot of studying required. Put the time by reading lecture slides, do all homework and remember vocab, and definetely can get a B
Coming from Professor Lin's class, Professor McDonald is SOOO much better. He is very clear, maybe boring at times, but knowledgable. He teaches strictly off of the power point slides and tests only on material specifically presented in class. This class requires time, but thats really all. If you study you will do just fine.
As a former Demski student (see his ratings, LOL), McDonald is much more straightforward. Need time to study but should pull a C+ to B+ with consistent effort.
Tests are just nutty...
I didn't study enough for the first test. Make sure you get a TA who helps you on weekly quizes.
A much more understandable professor than previous ones! He made the material so much easier to understand. He doesn't trick you on exams. Whatever he teaches and goes over in class is what will be on the exam. Study for quizzes, do all the assigned homework probs, get TutoringZ if you can and you'll be fine.
very boring professor but who cares because he is straight forward. study what he tells you to and do well on the quizzes AND go to the weeklies from TZ!! TZ weeklies work wonders in this class.
Good teacher, If you go to lectures and go to lab you will be fine. Study for quizzes and get help from your TA if you need it. This class is doable if you put some effort into it.
Nothing like the horror stories everyone's heard about financial accounting. Still hard, but definitely do-able. If you have to take financial, McDonald is your best choice.
I can honestly say that I was very lucky to get Dr. McDonald. Was he a great teacher, not really (he is an accountant) but compared to what I've heard about Demsky and Lu the class wasn't as bad as it could have been. MC Tests are doable if you study. I had to work pretty damn hard for my B and I definitely would recomend TZ weeklies. BOOK SUCKS

I took this class in the Spring 06. It took effort, but I managed an A. Professor McDonald is useless, I stopped attending the lecture. The TA was the only real source of teaching I received.
I took this class on the spring of 06. i did fairly well in the class but only becuase of TZ weeklies. I tried attending his class and to understand his lectures, but his teaching was not clear enough for me. You can get a B w/o going to TZ though. Do all the practice problems and use your TA, they are clearer than Mcdonald. Hard class.
he is horrible! dont take this class at uf!
He is the worst professor I have ever had! Good luck... you are going to need it.
This will be my first B in college. The class was way tougher than it should be. My TA in the Masters of Accounting program still misses a few when she takes our exams for fun. Avoid Mcdonald's class if you can.
He doesn't like review sessions. Finds them pointless. Loved my TA, thought of her as what my professor is SUPPOSED to be like. Do the homework problems, review all old quizzes, go to TA officers and you should be able to pull a B in the class.
I really have no complaints. Big weedout class, of course its supposed to be hard. Tests are straightforward and fair. I honestly can say this class is not half bad, and McDonald does a decent job of teaching a boring subject. He is knowledgeable and explains all concepts. Go to TA for help, study hard, a B is completely doable
without doubt, this class is tough. I found his lectures hard to understand so I just taught myself using the textbook and ceased going to class. Tests are very difficult. BE SURE TO DO THE SUGGESTED HW! Practice is key. McDonald doesn't care much, but he's the only one that teaches it. I got a C but a B is very much achievable if u study more!
The class is hard, DO THE SUGGESTED HW! **** helps somewhat but I wouldn't let my grade depend on it. I've talked with McDonald 3x and he was a complete jerk each and everytime. He'll make you think twice about being an accounting major.
Got a B by the skin of my teeth despite the flexible exam curve. I suggest going to class and doing all the suggested homework the week it is taught. An extreme amount of studying is necessary. McDonald's voice is mundane to say the least but he's very knowledgeable.
Class is extremely difficult and has a very high drop-out rate. Lectures are boring and don't teach anything. McDonald simply reads the class notes to you...do it youself. My TA was extremely helpful and was the reason I didn't fail the course. Study hard, do all the homework questions, go to discussion, and your TAs review sessions.
The only class I haven't gotten an A in since I've been at UF.....this guy takes a boring subject and makes it even worse. His tests emphasize the unimportant details while skipping out on some of the bigger concepts.
Listen to the lecture he gives examples! but HARDDD class
This class is tedious and difficult, and unless you study a LOT you won't do well in the class. The lectures are informative, but McDonald's teaching style does nothing to stimulate interest in the subject, and I think it actually hindered my ability to learn. Find a good TA and go to their office hours, and do the homework problems!!
Don't go to lectures unless you want to feel productive in the class. Instead read the book and do ALL the practice problems. GO TO TZ!! If possible I recommend the weeklies at TZ for the second and third tests. They helped me a lot. Go to all the Labs on Fridays and ask TAs for help, not McDonald.
He has the charisma of Nick Saban. When I read the textbooks, I understand the concepts, but the tests ask for nit-picky details that don't really look at the big picture. TA's are your best hope. Definitely go to labs. This class takes a lot of time and dedication, which I didn't have because of my other classes and organizations.
McDonald is horribly boring. I went to all lectures but pretty much just daydreamed and slept. I got an A without wasting money on TZ. How? Read every chapter, make notecards on EVERYTHING. And study for a week before the exam. Do the practice problems he assigns, and don't miss your discussion section, TAs are god-sent.
Horrible. Concepts are pretty easy (simple math), but his tests are ridiculously hard and tedious. If you don't have to take this class - don't. McDonald isn't worth your time.
The class isn't as bad as people say it is. To do well: Don't just know the material, UNDERSTAND it. This is KEY. Go to all labs and do well on quizzes. McDonald isn't a bad guy, really. This stuff isn't that complicated. A grade of at least B is definitely doable. TZ will help make things clear if you are having trouble. I'm an econ major btw.
This class is ridiculous.. enough said.
Not as bad, at least to me, as everyone says this class is. The tests aren't easy, but if you actually understand the material instead of learning superficial facts and figures, you'll be fine. Imperative that you understand everything well enough to manipulate your knowledge to think critically about the accounting concepts. Read and study a lot.
You dont need to go to lecture. McDonalds reads directly from the slides and doesnt make it interesting at all. This class requires a great amount of time and effort. You never know what to expect on the test. They are over analytical and asks questions about things that arent paid much attention to. Read book, do the homework, and study as you go
Just reads the slides every lecture
Everyone who complains about Dr. McDonald's teaching style needs to stop their silly sheep's whining! Better get used to it, people! The real world is EVEN WORSE!! Dr. McDonald is a very educated, very intelligent professor, and deserves more respect than this. Try not to be a whiner when you go talk to him and you might get somewhere.
Go to TZ weeklies, they are basically god. Go to class even though he reads from the slides, he does give his own examples which help clarify. Did bad on the 2nd exam because i didn't go to class and did good on the first and last exam because i went to class. Got a B+. Get a good TA and read the chapters over and over again untill you get it
He may know a lot about what he's teaching but that doesn't necessarily make him a good teacher. McDonald's voice stays dull/monotonous. He basically just reads off the slides and adds an insignificant comment here and there. Extremely boring. It's so hard to pay attention to him. Thankfully, the book is very well written and an excellent resource.
Class is very boring, all he does is read straight off of his slides. Buy the coursepack and you can teach yourself. Getting a good TA is essential, Mike Federico was awesome. Study the textbook extensively. Tests are still hard, but that's why this is essentially a "weed-out" class. Getting an A is quite an accomplishment.
Easy, boring lectures; amazing lab with a TA, exams "tricky, messed up, difficult, detailed, completely not conected with his lectures!!!"
I dont think this class is as bad as people say. It depends on how you handle it. If you keep up with it, which is easier if you attend lectures, and do all the h/w problems assigned, read the book, you will be fine. You have to work for your grade and this class and I think the reason people do bad is because they dont care about the material.
Dr. McDonald is very good (clear) at presenting lecture. Dont take this class "just for fun" it is the hardest class for business minor. To get an A: Attend lecture everyday, read book before you go, take notes. Attend lab every week at get 10s on all quizzes. Must get an A the first exam, it is the easiest. Final is comprehensive.
He's not a bad guy or a bad teacher...it's just that the setup of this class makes it really difficult to succeed. The curve is nearly nonexistant and the exams are pretty difficult. Apparently there is a discrepancy because every TA but mine told their students what was going to be on quizzes :(. If you mess up, you're screwed for the semester.
This class is not difficult. The concepts are straight from the book and the test/quiz problems are significantly easier than any problem in the textbook. If you read the book, unlike most people, you will not have trouble in this class at all. McDonald is not a bad professor; this is simple bookeeping and is very objective.
Material is relatively easy and if you can do the HW you can get a B no problem. McDonald provides exhibits but mainly just reads the slides. Tests are curved bell fashion and overall A was 87% and B was 77% this semester. Find the best TA and score high on test 1 and an A is achievable.
This is a hard class only for those who are lazy and expect grades given to them. Reading is very important as well as doing all the practice problems and well on all the quizzes. A B is possible, JUST STUDY! Thats what you are here for!
Um, to the previous commenter - I am not lazy, I just had a hard time. I went to weekly and exam reviews at TZ, did the homework, went to lecture, and still struggled. It's a hard course, and McDonald makes it harder by digging too deeply.
Watch out for trick questions! I was totally on track for an A before being caught off guard by all the trickery on the final. Ended up with a B. If you get lower than that, you're not trying.
Worst teacher ever. Does not know how to make the material interesting. Most of the class either skipped his lectures or slept.
This class and subject is definitely not easy, but it is LIGHT YEARS easier than how it used to be. For those who complain, think about having to take the class with no multiple choice and with class averages in the 20s with NEGATIVE scores. Yes, NEGATIVE scores.
awesome prof, easy to understand and really knows what he is talking about. You must study and work hard but he is a very clear and well informed teacher.
He hates teaching the lower level accounting classes like intro, but he likes his upper level kids. Definitely kind of intimidating, but he's an awesome teacher, I actually learned the material inside and out. He was really good, and not so scary if you go to his office hours. You definitely have to put the time in though if you want to do well.
Very boring... but knows what he's talking about. Interesting material.. but the tests are uber-specific. Don't go to class.. he just reads the slides from the textbook
Very condescending and spiteful toward students. Wastes class time to call out students who leave early, yells at students who ask "stupid questions". A decent prof, but not a very nice person. Acts like he's better than everyone else, thank goodness I had a nice TA.
I got an A so listen up. Forget about the professor - here are the rules for success: 1) Keep up with the material and prepare for the weekly quizzes - if you can sign up for the weekly Tutoring Zone sessions, better. 2) Go to class, learn ratios and formulas, DO PRACTICE PROBLEMS! duh. 3) Do whatever you can to get the old exams. Google.
Extremely challenging class. Many people have to drop it the first time and take it again. Going to lecture is pointless. The slides he goes over in class are the same ones from the textbook website. They even narrate it and is less boring than McDonald. Find old exams online because some questions are from those. GO TO TUTORING ZONE!
This class is DOABLE! Read assigned chapters and do practice problems. Find a copy of old tests because the questions are set up exactly the same (all MC)! Class attendance is helpful b/c it reinforces what you've read, but definitely is not necessary. Plus he curves tests so an A is possible even with 85%'s on the tests. TZ is useless.
I made an A in this class Fall 08. Go to class, even if it's boring.. helps info sink in. DO all of the homework problems before the quizzes each week...thoroughly do them. Try finding some old practice tests. Do EXTRA hw problems + review slides. Work those ratios backwards! Work everything backwards! I got an A by a huge margin.
Going to lecture is boring, but helpful. Tutoring zone is not necessary AT ALL. All you need to do is go to lecture and actually pay attention, read all the TA notes they provide to help you, and do the suggested homework. When studying, read over all lecture and TA notes and redo the homework problems. Easy A, so stop everyone complaining!
Class is DOABLE. Lectures are boring but somewhat useful. Labs are worth your time because the TA can go over material much better. Do homework problems and read the text before class. DO NOT RELY SOLELY ON THE PROFESSOR OR TAS. The class is based on how much time you put into it.
In order to handle this class, the most useful thing you can do is read the textbook and do the suggested practice problems. I went to Tutoring Zone and didn't really learn much from the tutor so I would say that is kinda useless. You don't need to go to class but going to lab is a must. Find some old test problems, life will be good if you can.
Dropped the class. Took the class just to see if I would be interested in Accounting. Didn't like the course at ALL! I guess this course I do-able if you have some sort of interest. I went to TZ and it was pointless.
not impossible, requires a lot of effot. quizzes every friday which you should study for, do practice problems and tz weeklies. definitely doable
How to ace this class: STUDY for the quizzes. These can make or break your final grade! Go to labs and pay attention. Make sure to do well on the 1st exam, it goes downhill from there. Go to the review of the exams during lab, quite a few questions from the first exams will appear on subsequent exams. Good luck.
The material for this class is interesting, but you must READ the textbook (maybe even multiple times)! Keeping up with the class is the toughest part (along with the exams, which are difficult). Definitely understand what's going on in the labs, if you know what you're doing in there - that's a great start! Learned a lot. Got a B in the class.
learned a lot. must do well on the first exam, but don't think the curve will carry you to a good grade on the 2nd exam and final - A was a 90 on the final after he told us it would prob be really low. study hard the whole semester. read the textbook. very fair tests. only tests stuff he says in lecture and is in book.
Very difficult course. Professor is quite boring too, but fairly knowledgeable. You MUST read the book and COMPLETE all the suggested homework! Do well on QUIZZES! After first exam, difficulty of the exams skyrockets. Prepare to struggle to make a decent grade. MUST work hard and give effort. Squeaked out an A with the curve (which isn't much)
Definitely a hard professor. But if your an ACG major, he can teach you a lot about things that aren't covered in the class. 1st test is easy, the 2nd and Final are killer. If you don't get a B on the 1st test, good luck. Go to class on Friday to take the quizzes - they are grade boosters. And the earlier the class, the easier the quiz.
His lectures are boring. All he does is read aloud the powerpoint presentation and he is bad at explaining any concept in his own words. Thankfully my teaching assistant was great, so I did ok in the class. You have to take this class if you are accounting major, so good luck. Don't rely on him. Use other resources.
Mergers & acquisitions was tough. McDonald was willing to help outside of class with difficult questions
