I took BIOL 223 (A&P I) last semester. As typical of this class, VERY RIGOROUS! Must study! Powerpoint lectures- gives out b4 class or u can print it if u miss class. Tests are based mostly on book - so YOU have to READ the TEXTBOOK! He doesn't ask if anybody has questions during lecture =( No extra credit! His lab is harder than lecture.
Gets his lectures STRAIGHT out of the book which is good when it's time to study. He also prints out copies of his notes for everyone. Only uses PowerPoint notes, nothing else. So sit up close or you'll miss something. His tests are straightforward questions from his notes, no tricks. But his Final Exam was super hard! Good luck
His notes and lecture are just a copy of the book. He doesn't teach so much as just read what the book already says. His tests are very hard, and he only gave our class one day between the fifth exam and final exam. His expectations are unrealistic.
i thought professor milne was wonderful. i had him for lab and it is not hard like the person above me said. of course the material is rigorous, but if you study it pays off. mr milne was extremely helpful he would always answer the questions of every student. his quizzes were fair and never tried to trick us. he was just awesome
One of the best professors I've had. He quizzes fairly. Don't be careless with his quizzes and practicals. Easy...IF you study.
Nice guy buthis expectations to high for students new to material.Notes are copied & pasted from text & youre told to know chapter whether discussed or not. Must understand chapter in order to pass tests. Thefinal is clinical. If understood & good with 223, youll be fine. IF not, I suggest another prof. I retaking and so far much better
Worst teacher ever. Not much of a lecture. Like everyone else said, his standard is way too high. Totally invade your privacy by passing ur info to retention center and make them call u and mail u letters if ur test score is low. You need to study by urself to pass the exam b/c lecture just doesnt cover anything.Save ur money and pick another prof.
THIS GUY IS COMPLETELY OUT OF LINE!!!! HE HAS NO INTEREST IN WETHER OR NOT YOU UNDERSTAND THE MATERIAL HE IS STRICTLY UP THERE FOR THE PAYCHECK! HE WONT DO A REVIEW BEFORE A TEST AND EXPECTS THE RETENTION CENTER TO MAKE UP FOR WHAT HE IS LACKING AS A PROFESSOR.. WHICH IS EVERYTHING BUT A PULSE!TAKE SOMEONE ELSE UNLESS YOU WANT TO HAVE TO RETAKE IT!
Had Mr. Milne for lab. He grades fair and doesn't try to trick you like some lab teachers tend to do. He doesn't appear overly friendly at first, but once you get him talking he's a pretty nice guy. He is helpful and walks around during lab to see if anyone needs help. No matter who you have for lab it's a lot of memorization, so you have to study.
I am not in the habit of saying anything bad about the teachers, yet i have been in school for 4 years and that is the most AWFUL TEACHER i have ever encountered. as mentioned, HE IS THERE FOR A PAYCHECK. STAY THE F. AWAY FROM HIS if you dont want to retake
would like to warn anyone that might be a future student of his HE IS ONE BAD TEACHER!! He makes it VERY VERY HARD for anyone to pass!! During finals there were only 5 of us left..i think about 35 to 40 students and all ended up dropping out of his class!!
This is a very difficult subject and he never tells you what's on the test. Everything is straight from the very large textbook, but does provide you with an outline of the chapters. Your grade strictly depends on 5 exams, the final exam is mostly all application questions, and he only gives you one day between the 4th exam and the final.
Dr. Milne is a nice guy who seems to have a genuine interest in teaching. His exams are AWFUL! He had a question and spelled one of the answers wrong on purpose..Actin was spelled Actinin..just to throw people off. I would not take Dr. Milne again, class was very difficult. Even students who studied 3+ hours a day didn't get an A!
No need to even attend his class. He expects every student to memorize the entire book, including graphs and tables. Exams are very hard and questions seem more like critical thinking question than a&p. Don't even bother trying to challenge an exam question. Your wrong he's right, end of discussion.
Expectations are unrealistic. He requires that you memorize the entire text book, as others have said. He does not narrow anything down. He feels all material is important, even the most insignificant facts. You have to know EVERYTHING! Nothing is singled out. Memorize the whole book or you will do very poorly!!! I'm an A student & am struggling! Sa
The first day of class he said students shouldn't expect to do well or pass 224 on the first attempt. Way to be encouraging. His class is the first C grade I ever received even though I read the book very intensively. His tests are ridiculous and he leaves his students entirely unprepared for the final.
He is seemingly interesting in teaching but he just doesn't do it well. His tests are random questions out of the text and the final is impossible. I studied very hard for his class and will have to take it again because he is so horrible. His lecture is a waste of time when you can just read the book at home
40 students were in the first class, only 8 got a C or better. He is a horrible teacher. If you want to pass don't go to class..use that time to memorize the book. He seems to enjoy the misery of his students not passing and goes out of his way to fail everyone. Worse teacher ever!!
Someone should tell Dr. Milne that any teacher can fail a student, it takes a good one to TEACH a student.10 minutes of class time for the 1st ten classes was devoted to telling us how we would all fail, the % after each test that were going to fail. Questions are directed to his office hours, god forbid we learn from each other! HORRIBLE!
I am currently taking this teacher and I have studied my rear off and I am failing his class. I'm making an A in lab but a d in his class. Test are very very hard. I will have to drop and re-take.
Avoid if at all possible. Wastes time on explaining his interests that have nothing to do with the class, but will not explain the relevant material. Exams are impossibly hard; would do better if written in French. Anytime you ask a question, he tells you to come to his office hours to continue to waste your time.
A very nice man, but not a very good teacher. Does not explain the information well and tests are extremely difficult. I had to withdraw and will be taking the class from another prof. in the spring.
Get ready to memorize every chapter. The objectives are in front of the chapter. You will not know what exactly he'll ask for every test including the final. Go to class . He will just go over his power points which he will give to you , but repetition is key. Even if you study all day and night and you make it out with a C, be thankful
I took Dr. Milne over the summer and got a B-. You should read the book and understand the material. If you fail the class, it's not HIS fault but your own. If I had done a little better in lab I could have pulled out an A or higher B. His tests are hard, but A&P is a hard class. The amount of effort you put in studying is the grade you'll receive!
Worst teacher ever! Contrary to the below statement, it is his fault if you fail. His tests are impossible, especially the final. I didn't know person who has gotten even a B in his class first time around. He wastes time discussing things that don't matter and isn't at all helpful when you ask a question. Avoid him, take Brito instead
Worst. Teacher. Ever.
Worst teacher i've ever taken! i understand that the material is hard, but this teacher does not teach. all he does is state all the facts that you read on your own. it's ridiculous, and his tests are unbelievable. he expects you to memorize every single detail. and i know many can agree with me but if you want to learn something take someone else!
He teaches straight from powerpoints, but you need to know the book in order to do well. I found it useless to even attend class. I was excited to take this class, but he didn't inspire us. I was more inspired in biol 189 (and I consider that class a little boring). Taking his class has caused me to question why I am in school.
this class is very hard and DR. Milne doesn't make it any easier! you will need to read each chapter multiple times. He teaches straight from power point and goes really fast. no study guides are handed out and tests are over everything in the book.... will not go over it all but it WILL be on test!Nothing covered in lab will be taught in lecture!
I took 223L & basically memorization and a little bit of application. Repetition is the key to memorization & stay ahead & you will do well. My main concern was his practical #2. Some of the questions were not covered in lab. Try to guess to the closest part structure if you don't know, & you might get it correct, like me. Good Luck!
all i can say is read each chapter atleast four or five times and keep a box of kleenex ready because no matter how hard you study you will still walk out of his test crying.
I loved Dr. Milne. I had him for 223 & 224. You must earn your grade in his class. He will help you if you ask. In lab he explains everything and is very helpful. In lecture he keeps you interested and amazed at all the things our bodies can do. I highly recommend him.
This is the worst teacher I have ever hard at csn. He only asks trick questions on quizzes, he says this is to make sure you really know the material. He does not like to answer questions he thinks u should get everything from the book. The only examples he gives are the ones from the book. His lecture consist of him basically reading you the book
75% of the class are gone during our finals. WARNING: Dont take this teacher.
Worst teacher i have ever had. Exams were impossible! Only had one day in between last test and the final exam. I recommend NOT taking him! Retaking the class because i got a C-...i never missed a class, but honestly its a waste of time to show up to class, just stay home and read your textbook!
I took Dr. Milne last year and I'm not going to lie, it was a hard class but I didn't know how hard until today when I learned that Bio 223 has only a 40% pass rate. Not only is it a hard class to take but it's a hard class to teach as well. Only take this class if you're truly dedicated or else you will fail. Dr. Milne did the best he could.
Mr. Milne;s tests are beyond hard, especially the final exam, way too hard, ridiculously hard. I am an above averga student and i can tell you he is hard, his espectations are WAY to unrealistic. Quizes are ok i guess, but exams are hard, and the final exam is beyond belief. I recommend you take someone else.
Prof Milne is a nice person however this being said this class is very hard. I am an A student who devoted atleast 20hrs a week to this class only to barely pass. He requires you to know the entire book. He does not provide study guides. The amount of information is overwhelming. Take a teacher who reduces the text to a study guide.
Mr's Milnes;s test are very very hard confusing and the final was the worst , rediculosly hard. his espectation are way unrealistic don't waist you money and time take some one else hi is horrible teacher.eve if you study 20 hours a week or more you still have a hard time on his test and final he will find the smallest detail to make a question
Hardest teacher I have EVER had! He is very nice but for taking his tests, Medical Terminology should be a requirement. His test are the hardest I have ever taken! There were 5 people left in my class by the end of the year. If people are paying to take his class they diserve a fair shot at passing. I am not taking his class again!
I took Milne for AandP fall 2010 and it was by far the hardest class I had ever taken in a community college. If you are only taking his class and have LOTS of time on your hands take him and be ready to read each chapter 3 to 5 times because he expects you to know every detail in the chapter. IMO take another professor stay away frrom MILNE
DONOT take him If you do you need to memorize the entire book His powerpoints or notes he hand out in class will not help you and will not be on the test Be prepared to memorize the book b/c that is where the exam will come from RUN DONOT TAKE HIM You have been warned I have A's in all my classes not afraid to study but he will make you doubt you
Wish I would have checked out this site prior to taking Milne's class. You would be wise to take the advise of students who have been through it.
I thought he was extremely helpful. The class was very difficult, however, I feel like I truely learned the information which will be more beneficial to me in later classes.
Everyone told me to transfer out of the class in the beginning but I stayed. Now I have to RE-TAKE it for the 2nd time coz i missed the passing grade by 1PT! He expects you to know the book VERBATIM! NO ONE goes to class because he has a podcast of the lecture online. I DON'T RECOMMEND HIM! STUDY STUDY STUDY if you wanna pass!
Full class in the beginning; 11 people in the end. Approx. 6 passed the class. Boring lectures. Do not take with this professor!
The worst teacher I've ever had. I spend at least 30 h a week to study and I failed the class he is useless. Take Marty Hicks I retook the class with Marty and loved it.
Tests extremely hard. He expects students to be as knowledgeable as he is although we have been at it a short time versus his years of study. Does not answer questions directly.
Save yourself and don't take him! His tests are hard and tricky. I'm in it right now and I am barely hanging on. He does not give a study guide so anything in the book is fair game...which means you have to read the ENTIRE book very carefully. I am really hoping I don't have to retake this class but If I do I will NOT be taking it from him.
I took Milne for biology 189. I thought Biology WAS SO HARD because Milne's test where so difficult. I am in biology 196 and I don't have to study at all because of how much time I spent studying for his exams. He teaches well but be aware he barely ever asks black and white questions, almost every question is conceptual and every choiceseems right
Don't listen to this people down below and what they are writing.Mr. Milne is one of the best teachers to take for A&P, yes he is not the easiest, but for lecture you will look forward to coming to class. his test are a little hard. As long as you read the textbook, attend every lecture you will do fine in his class. I got an A!! :)
I had him for 224, Don't listen to this people down below and what they are writing. Mr. Milne is one of the best teachers for A&P, yes he is not the easiest, but for lecture you will look forward to coming to class. his test are a little hard but as long as you read the textbook, attend every lecture, you will do fine in his class. I got an A!
He certainly knows his stuff, and he is a really nice man .... However, I feel he is really condescending. Whenever I ask him a question in lab, he makes me feel stupid. Also, at times I feel like he thinks he is better than us.
The material is very hard, but Dr. Milne acts like we should know it in and out and upside down, right from the beginning! His questions on the tests are all reworded different that what is in the book and he does not offer any extra study guides for tests. He has a high failure rate compared to other professors.
misspells words on the exams. why? will I be a less than capable healthcare worker because I mispronounce acetylcholine? with budget cuts pending maybe this guy should lighten up and quit making the material hard for the sake of being hard. condescending as well.
Quite possibly the hardest biology teacher on this planet, lol. people call it impossible class, but is very possible to pass but must be more independent minded than if you took another professor. As a current nursing student, I can tell you the material is VERY important, so you might want to choose a professor that explains it better than him
First of let me just say that under no circumstance would a challenge shy me away. I did know that 223 would be hard. Maybe I wasn't ready. This instructor is very difficult. Let me say that there is nothing I would rather experience than this.
Was up front about how he going tp lecture but paraphrasing text and than tests on smallest details from text is not teaching. When asked a question in class about current subject never checked with student to see if they understood his answer if he would give one. told numerous people answers are in 400page thing called text book.
This professor has many definitions for just one word, and goes on and on more like banters. He also makes his exam's really complicated, and is not a good teacher at all. I have to repeat because he made no sense to me at all.
I am usually a pretty good student so I was really surprised and discouraged each time there was an exam because most questions seemed like insignificant details. this class was extremely hard, and studying main ideas and topics won't cut it. you have to know EVERYTHING! from the notes, side notes, and the book from cover to cover.
I re-took this class because my credits did not transfer from my old school. I studied my butt off, went to every single class, and still got a C. He is one of the worst teachers I have ever had. His lecture is so difficult to follow, and you are tested on anything from the book. He made my 223 semester by far the worst of my life. RUN!
He explains the concepts well and is always willing to answer questions but studying will consume your life. His tests have multiple answers that seem right so you have to know the material inside and out. I have never spent so much time studying and I barely got a B. He is a good teacher but his exams are just ridiculous.
If you ask a question , he tells you its in the book. If you ask him what you need to know, he tells you everything. His tests are 75 questions long.I left his class many times frustrated. If you have the chance, DONT TAKE HIM. If you are really smart , I guess you are OK. But for those who need to study hard to receive good grades, I do not sugges
I read the reviews prior to starting this class. I wish I would have listened! I am an excellent student, however the tests are completely ridiculous. I went in to ask about some that I missed, he couldn't even answer them, he had to look them up! That's how confusing his exams are. If you have ANY other option, TAKE IT!
I got his class last minute and wish now that I would have saved my money and waited until spring 2012 to get a better teacher. His class is RIDICULOUSLY hard. Tests are confusing and misleading. YOU HAVE TO KNOW THE BOOK FRONT TO BACK and pray its enough to pass. I may have to drop it now cause a "C" seems impossible :(
Extremely efficient and thorough. Provides every avenue to help you help yourself.
I've had bad teachers and fully expect them, but Milne has got to be the worst. His tests are extremely hard, his notes are lengthy, and his way of teaching is far from helpful. I failed HARD, retook the class with another professor and passed with a B. Avoid Milne at all costs.
I am an A student. I even took Biol 223 during the summer as a six week course and received an A. I will be lucky to receive a C in this class. He is not helpful, he does not give a study guide or even answer what will be on the exam. he tells you to know EVERYTHING. WORST.PROFESSOR. EVER.
worse professor ever. Do not take him at all costs.
Took him spring sem and it was a waste of my time and money. He teaches way too fast and doesnt answer your questions if you have another question related to the topic. He will instead tell you to go to his office for further questions. NO PATIENCE for students at all that's trying to learn this course. DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!
he is extremely condescending and picks the most minute and discrete details. I have an A in lecture with another professor and have a D in lab because he makes it so ridiculous. If you can run, run away!!!!
He is the hardest professor I have ever taken! If you have a question that he feels he will cover at a later date then he tells you that you have to wait for him to go over it later. Tests are rediculous, and the tests are your only grade. I wish I would have listened before I took his class. I totally waisted my time and money.
Avoid this guy at all costs. He may be smart, but there isnt a way of knowing. He just tells you the answer is in the book. On top of it all he is a complete jerk. If you like tests that have every detail of the book, and no help whatsoever from a teacher, then go right ahead.
Milne is a teacher who will tear you apart by having you study so much and not getting the grade you want. I struggled throughout the semester trying to get a C and now must retake the class because his exams do not relate to his lectures or even the book. He makes questions that leave you sitting there stuck. He doesn't care to pass students.
I have never felt so unsuccessful as I did in this class. I would study for hours and read for days to prepare for his exams but I received a D as my final grade. I've never received lower than a B- in any college class. He expects you to just know things and doesn't explain. Don't take him if you want to pass the first time you take the course.
i took organic chemistry and that class was easier than this guys lecture. i mean it is ridiculous.
If you're a genuis and have photographic memory then this is the right class for you. You have to know and understand the entire textbook by heart to be successful in this class. I spent hours and hours in the library and would still only get Fs on my exams.
Milne sets himself above all but a handful of gifted students. Body language expresses condescension. Rigid attitude. Studying extremely hard may earn you a C. Class stats: 62% Drop Out rate, survivors' median grade: 67. Plan to memorize the ENTIRE textbook (no joke!). Expect tests to be fortuitous mine fields. 90% of survivors forced to retake.
This guy should not teach a&p at a community college. All the other a&p classes had at least 10% higher test averages than his class. I unfortunately had to take his class because of time constraints. If you have to take him plan to study 3 hrs a day and you might get a c. good luck.
This class is tough with Milne. I am a straight A student and I am pulling a B in this class. If you want to pass you cannot have a job or life. I got an A on the last test but I studied from 10am to 7pm the 4 days leading up to the test and memorized EVERYTHING in the Chapters. What everyone is saying is true. Don't take him! Hardest class ever!
STAY AWAY if you need to take this class and he is the only open class wait until next semester!!!!! Everything in the book is fair game when it comes to the test unless he says other wise. The only way you can pass this class is if its the only class you are taking and spend most of your free time studying!!!! TAKE A DIFFERENT CLASS!!!
Dr. Milne is more than willing to help students pass. The material is very hard & he wants everyone to know it well.I am having a hard time & not sure if I will pass but being able to pass his class means you know your stuff. The work you put in is the grade you will get.People need to calm down and stop blaming him. This is just hard material!
While I understand the need to weed out students who aren't willing to put in the work, Milne takes it to a new level. I almost wish I wouldn't have wasted time going to every lecture and instead devoted my time to memorizing the textbook. Extremely difficult class with no extra credit, no reviews, and some of the hardest tests I've ever taken.
This was by far the hardest professor I've ever had. Lectures help very little. The professor gives a good lecture but expects you to memorize everything from the chapters for the exams which is nearly impossible. He does not offer study guides or any additional help towards exams. Although I passed the course I would not recommend taking him.
Milne is SUPER hard!!! Memorizing the book might help you out. He's super nice though!! He looks just like Steve Martin too.
I have heard a lot of unkind things about Dr. Milne. His class was intense, but you leave knowing your stuff if you pay attention. If you really want to learn, Milne is your man, just be aware that 10 hours a week of study will be needed. If you want an easy A, get another class. I highly recommend Milne to anyone who is "in it to win it".
This professor is a nice person but he needs a reality check. This course is hard enough but this professor took it to a new level. Instead of studying and learning, I found myself trying to memorize the whole book just to pass his exams. His exams are 80 questions per 80 minutes which not enough time to think of the answer.
This professor should not be teaching a first year class. He is very knowledgeable but expects too much of students who have never been exposed to this material. He lectures but then doesn't test off lecture material. He truly expects you to memorize the book. Test questions are obscure and worded to trick you. I was an A student before his class
This teacher is CRAZY. Don't bother coming in to lecture since he basically gives you the cliffnotes of the book BUT tests you on every little detail from the book. You basically memorize every chart and diagram. If you think you can get a good grade from just his lecture then you are completely wrong. This class is ridiculous.
Choose another professor. I understand that the subject matter is tough to begin with; however, coming to class was pointless. His lecturing style = reading directly from power point slides. Independent study and memorization of the textbook is your only hope in passing his exams. I am an A-B student and left this class feeling clueless.
He is hard. You need to read the text book because the notes aren't going to help you pass the class. This is the first time I felt like I was not understanding anything!!!
Honestly the worst class ever! He does not like questions and when you ask them he is very condesendng in his answer. His lectures are pretty much the books chapter review and they do not help with his exams in any way! Please take another Professor for this class. This professor is good at making you feel inadequate, no matter your dedication!
Milne gets a bad rap because people aren't willing to put in the effort. It's a tough class. I've been a 4.0 student and I'm going to get a, "C" in his lecture because of the tests. However, I'm learning more in this class than all of my other classes combined. I'm grateful and he's a good guy.
This was the hardest C I ever received. I studied about 30 hours per week just for this one class. If you are a part time student with no job or kids, you can do it. But you won't have much free time. Lectures are not necessary. Everything is out of the book... every little detail in the book can be a test question.
He is a terrible professor! "I am in it to win it" and still this class was ridiculous! I don't think he actually understands physiology, he should have stayed in the study of Bees. DONT TAKE THIS CLASS WITH THIS PROFESSOR!
This is a very difficult class & Milne is a difficult professor! That being said, I am leaving this class knowing my stuff. If I want to work in healthcare, I feel that is really important. Read the book several times, make hundreds of note cards and do not skip info you may think is insignificant. He will test on everything!
Dr. Milne is good guy. The subject material is hard.I liked the fact that he prints a copy of the notes for every student. He tests on the whole book, and the point of his lecture is to explain the book not teach the test. Lazy students do not pass this class. If you want to know the material this is the class. Im taking him for 224 next semester.
Horrid experience. I passed but he made far more confusing than it had to be. Skipped entire chapters yet tested extensively on them, expected you to memorize every word of the text and I felt that what I learned, I taught myself. He's condescending and gets offended if you seek outside help. Do yourself a favor And choose another professor!
He is the hardest teacher ever!!!!! Don't take his class if you want to pass. I took him in fall 2012 and I went out of my mind. He want you to know everything in the book. We are computer we can't digest all that stuff even if they gave us a year to study it. He test on very detail little things. when he teaches I felt like he was just revising.
He makes you work for it.
I am currently in Milne 223 class and I admit it takes tons of work! But so does every 223 class. My advice is: he prints out lecture notes, follow the notes in class and add anything he says to that paper. Read every day and take your own notes, his tests are right from the book. He doesn't give out study guides ever. Just study!!!
I will never take another class with him again. He used an outdated book and terminology from that book. You literally have to study for at least 2 hours daily to comprehend everything he MIGHT ask on an exam. He doesn't narrow down information at all and asks random things that were glanced over in lecture. Often times he rushes through lectures.
This is the hardest teacher I have had and I had to put in a lot of time to pass the class with a C! I would not recommend this teacher for students that are full-time or have a job. It takes up too much time and the exams are very hard.
well, I actually did pass the class with a decent grade, but it was the hardest thing i ever had to do. i put in at least 20 hours a week studying and in the end it was the lab grade that brought me up to passing. i would not recommend this class unless you're willing to study for 23+ hours weekly and memorize the entire book on top of his notes.
Deciding to take Biology at CSN? Do not sign up for this class. You will have the hardest semester ever. Attendance is not mandatory but you need to show up if you want to pass with at least a C. BE PREPARED TO READ THE TEXTBOOK! Exams are very difficult and most questions come from the book. Good luck if you choose this professor.
I'm not one to listen to the crowd so I thought this class would be fine for me. Wrong! He's demeaning to the students, his tests are insanely detailed, and he doesn't give a clear pic of what he wants students to know. Passing this class with a C was a miracle. Out of a full class, 12 people took the final, everyone was on the verge of a C and D.
OMG! The toughest professor I have ever encountered in my years of school and I am an A and B student all the way across my transcript. You have to READ THE BOOK. He will pass out class notes but that is merely a guide. Even the smallest things he will ask about. His wording on the exams are tough. You HAVE to know the material. STUDY 3hrdayormore
His texts are insanely hard. Half of my class has currently dropped. If you work full time or taking another class, your grade will suffer. Most feedback I have gotten from classmates is to memorize the book. If I pass, it will be a miracle.
So far, the class has been really challenging. The problem isn't that Milne is a bad instructor; there is just a lot of material to cover, and you must read the textbook. Milne is always willing to answer any questions that I have and he even gives extra credit for reviewing your test scores with him. If your willing to work you'll do fine.
should have dropped when he told us that most people fail his class. 40+ students in start of the semester and 8 people will be taking the final in 2 weeks. I'm getting A's in every other class and a B+ in lab but I'm still not going to get higher than a C-. I feel really taken advantage of considering the money, stress, and time I spent on A&P.
Looks like I'll be retaking BIO 223 WITH A DIFFERENT TEACHER. Organic chemistry was easier than this class!!!
Taking Milne is the worst mistake you can make. I studied 20 hours per week and still got D's on the exams. I had to drop the class because the amount of effort that I was putting forth was not reflected in the grade. Milne seemed very proud of the fact that the averages were barely above failing. AB students give it their all and still fail.
if you want the easy way out this is not the class for you. He may be a tough teacher, but i have never been more interested in learning the material because he could ask anything on the exam. his class has helped me set up a great studying schedule that will help me in the future. hes very nice, and makes you work for your grade(degree)
Friends told me not to take him, but considering I'm A student, I decided to still take him. His exams are hard. Its not clear what to focus on, basically you will need to read a lot and understand the material. Anything on the chapter is subject to be on the exam. Expect to study atleast 10 hrs a wk for this class. Will retake for a higher grade
Dedicate some serious studyreading time. Print out all the powerpoints, critical question answers, spend time on Wiley-plus and Orion, TAKE STUDY BREAKS AND TAKE CARE OF YOUR MENTAL HEALTH. He's organized and tech-savvy, prompt with replies, makes as much material available to students as possible- use that to your advantage. You can do this.
His Lectures are long and boring, he doesn't clarify very much and if someone asks a question he either doesn't answer it or gives a confusing response. So it makes you confused on whether to even ask for help. Tests are very hard, prepare to read from the book and his handouts but he does offer to give extra credit and advice to do better in class
He states in the start of class that anything in the text book is fair game on the tests. That's not fair because even med school students are not expected to memorize a whole textbook. This guy is not clear and whether you pass or fail this guy, you might feel confused and stupid. If you dare take this guys class you will not make it out alive.
Tests can cover anything in the chapter and in his lecture (Which is 99% rehash of the book and then his own input). Extra credit is worthless, don't waste your time. 1 point per test, up to 3 tests. The Final Exam covered the whole book. He only mentioned how many questions he'd add from each chapter. No previous questions from other tests used.
Don't quite understand why CSN would employ such an awful professor. Do not take just because you need an A&P class, wait till next semester. Everyone advised me to choose a different professor but I always thought it was about application, not your professor; I was wrong. Even the tutors in the science lab recommended dropping it.
Test are difficult to understand. He doesn't like to answer questions. Going to lectures is a waste of time, the power points wont help you on exams. Horrible Professor.
1 word. HELL. Rude & condescending. PPs & lectures are pointless, almost nothing on exams from them. Requirements are insane & unrealistic. Devoted COUNTLESS hours 7 days a week to study. Class began w/ 40, ending w/ 15. Must KNOW the book inside & out. No study guides or reviews for exams. Go to the tutors, you'll learn more from them than Milne!
As a straight A student this will be my first B in any college class I've ever taken. I studied about 30 hours for each of the five exams. Professor will ask the tiniest detail out of the three chapters that cover each exam. Unless you have a photographic memory or nothing else to do in your life you will struggle.
Extremely difficult is putting it nicely. The positive of surviving him & passing with a B is knowing that you can now handle any other professor at CSN with ease. Taking 223 Is hard enough, taking it from him is on a whole nother level, but the satisfaction of passing his class with a B you can't get from any other professor at CSN. Good luck!!!
Be willing to Sacrifice everything with this Instructor. No hobbie time, fitness time, no regular life time. The Demand of this instructor on the Exams Extremely difficult. He uses question that student of Biol 224 can answer correctly but no someone who is take this course for the first time. We others teachers you only study 1/4 of his materia
Just finished this. Some tips: Exams 1-5 most exam Q's are knowledge from the book AND practice questions on Canvas. The final tests concepts rather than knowledge, has fewer questions (75 as opposed to 80) and is VERY hard - do not underestimate! 1 pt extra credit per exam (total of 5) if you look at the exam in his office.
He prides himself in failing people. Every semester he is the last professor to get his classes filled - a clear indicator that he is not a good instructor. If you're in a situation where you need to take a Bio course and he's your only option, wait for the following semester, your GPA will thank you.
He is a horrible teacher. He does not know how to explain things in a nice manner. He expects you to know everything already. Take ANY OTHER professor, and if there is no other professor wait to take this class.
JUST SIMPLY AVOID. Unless you live at school (literally) then take him. There's a reason why his classes fill up so late, & why all drop after the 1st exam. Any 223 class is hard, but take someone else! Might be easier learning russian than in his class. Not worth risking your GPA/money/time, take another professor or wait for the next semester!
Dr. Milne is a nice person but not a great bio teacher. Lectures are RUSHED & heavy. ALL test ?'s come from the book so read EVERY. SINGLE. WORD; Has one of the highest dropout/fail rates of all bio teachers. I'm already a nurse (LPN-RN program) & STRUGGLED w/ class even studying 10+ hrs/wk. (PS There's a reason his classes are last to fill up.)
Great professor! Exams are tough but it's Biology and A&P is complex, duh! It's not supposed to be easy. He's passionate about teaching & wants students to LEARN the material so they're successful in their careers. Put in hard work and you'll be proud of yourself. I have already registered for his 224 class in the Spring! I cannot wait! Thx Dr. M.
Super knowledgeable and willing to extend extra help if you don't understand something. Most of the other students did very well in his class too. Getting a good grade is do able but not if you're looking to just slide by.
Reading the chapter before lecture and answering practice questions on MH Connect after helped a lot. He's a nice guy. I would definitely take him again!
A&P is a very challenging course as it is. Don't make your life harder by taking this prof. I took his Lecture and Lab and he gave me the most stressful semester. Very anal on grading. If you do decide to take him, study with all your might and sell your soul to satan while you're at it. Not worth the struggle.
Amazing professor! Super fun and animated in his lectures. Extremely smart and willing to extend extra help if needed! I wish I could take him for every class!!
Mr. Milne is a good professor, he knows what he's talking about. The only thing that you really need to do is read every chapter, it's not one of those classes you can get by with just the lectures, because he doesn't cover everything that's on the tests, so do study those few extra hours each week. Bonus, he does offer extra credit points.
Great professor, very nice in person, only one biology I know who gives extra credits which really help to boost your grade. Tests are hard but if you study you will do fine. All negative comments it's from people who didn't study and expect to get an A , NOT gonna work this way, A lot of time dedication. recommended !
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. Unless you are willing to sacrifice your LIFE, please do not take this class. I had a very hard time in the class because not only does his test have 80 questions each, he expects you to know the book word for word. All his tests come from the book and you need at least 10 hours to study. I highly do not recommend!!!!!
Honestly, I was feeling discouraged going into his class after reading all the reviews. Please go in his class with an open mind. He's a very nice professor. His exams are far from tricky and are fair. Exams cover basic material info. His notes do not cover all the material so you MUST read the chapters. Take your own notes and answer ?'s on MHConn
Milne is a good instructor and very knowledgeable. The con is that he interjects his personal knowledge which was not part of the chapter when he give the test and you could not find it in that chapter in the book but learn it in later chapter. He expect u know more than what the chapter discusses maybe.
Yes his exams are difficult and yes his lectures are intensive, but man was it worth it. Took him for Bio224 and I was genuinely shocked when I learned more and faster from his class than from a University level 224. What I would recommend for anyone and everyone is to GO VISIT HIS OFFICE. A scholarly chat about grades is just the Dr. ordered.
Do yourself a favor and wait for another professor for both 223 and 224. He is not a good instruction and doesn't care about his students.
Prepare to read. Long lectures and expects you to know everything before he goes over his lectures. Tough quizzes and test. Tough grader. DO NOT TAKE!
Tests are 80+ questions straight out of the book. Makes you feel dumb if you ask a question. Tests are straight from the book and expects you to know absolutely everything before lecture. DO NOT TAKE THIS COURSE UNLESS YOU CAN STUDY 10+ hours a week for a high volume test
Charles Milne is hilarious! Anatomy and Physiology is not an easy class so you must study if you want the grade you want. Milne is there if you need help or want to get a better grade. Would take him again
LET ME START OFF WITH A BE! PREPARED! TO! READ! i dont know how i can stress this enough. Prof. Milne isnt some scary strict professor. he's actually super friendly and funny. I noticed that the questions on his test are V CLOSE to the questions that you will see on the MHconnect so if you do those and understand them well, you will do so great :)
Dr. Milne is a good professor. The material is challenging but learnable. He gives you his class notes but tests on everything in each chapter. For those that worried that hes is a difficult professor, its not that bad. This is a 200 level bio course, not an intro. You need to work if you want to pass.
If you take his class I would suggest only taking his class. He is not clear what is going to be on the test, so you wont be able to master a topic before it's time to move on to the next. You'll literally need to study everything and "learn" 14 chapters in 16 weeks like the back of your hand. Get ready to live in the science resource center.
I failed the first two exams, went to EVERY CLASS. the third exam didn't go to one flipping class and got a B on the third exam. I told him the first two tests didn't read the book and recorded his lectures and listened to them at least two times!!! I studied everything he taught, and he told me he can't teach everything we need to know and toREAD
Super boring, and his lectures did not line up with the lab. So that was frustrating not being prepared for lab days unless I stayed a week ahead in my reading and taught myself. Lectures are mind numbingly boring. Take if you have to, but Def read your book.
You're honestly better off reading the textbook than showing up to class. His lectures are boring and power points seem useless. He gives you a copy of class notes that are the power points but he tests on everything in the chapter. Read the text book, do the MH connect questions and end of chapter questions. You'll have a better chance of passing.
This class is HARD. I did well on the first test but everything after that was a D or low C if I was lucky. He expects you to study *at least* 10 hours a week to pass the class. Half dropped before the semester was over, I passed with a C and was 1% away from a C-. Avoid if you can.
Good dude who cares about the material and the students. He expects you to be serious about your career goals, meaning if you're only taking this class with the mindset that it's another hoop to jump through, you're gonna have a hard time. Learn the material like the back of your hand.
He will lecture and class and expect you to understand everything and if you ask questions he will answer you bit willl make it sound like you are so stupid for asking such question.
There's a total of 6 exams, the 5th and final exams are 2 days apart. Although he makes his own power points, he often leaves out some important details from the book which will most definitely be on the exam. He expects you to get it right away, and will compare you with other students
I don't really understand why most think he is a bad professor. Even though he teaches at a community college, he is a university level professor. I went to almost every class, recorded every class, and read every page in the textbook I needed to and passed with flying colors. You just need to try hard and you will succeed. Go to office hours.
Read & learn the entire chapter. Do the chapter questions from book & the ones he'd post in canvas. He's the only professor I know that cares so much about his students. His exams are hard cause he's preparing you! If you can't handle him, you wont survive the program youre applying for. Most reviews here are based on emotions. Just read guys.
He is nice and helpful professor, but his exams are hard. Expect each exam more difficult than previous one so increase preparation time. Final is hardest one with questions for critical thinking, not for memorizing. Read the summary at the end of each chapter, it will help you on exam, but its better to know every single word in your book.
Definitely a university level professor. Take him. His exams will prepare you and his style of teaching helps you learn the material, not just memorize it. Even when I got an answer wrong, most of the time it was because of anxiety and I knew it! Read your book and look at his online module. Youll succeed if you work hard. Taking him for 224!
Accessible and gives you notes for the lectures. Easy to follow, lets you record, and tests are straight forward. The material is difficult, not the professor. He makes things very manageable if you read and keep up with the current material.
Professor Milne does care. He gives you the resources you need to pass this class. It definitely was a hard class for me but I do feel better prepared for my program compared to other students. If you genuinely put in the time to read and ask questions OUT OF CLASS, then you will definitely pass. He is a brilliant professor with a bad rep.
I love Dr. Milne. He genuinely cares about his students. He gives you a study guide of what you need to know for each exam. He tells you exactly what you need to do to pass his class. On canvas he has all power points, all diagrams. I would take him again in a heart beat. Read the book, come to class, study, & I suggest getting MH connect.
Be ready to read the entire textbook because his exams are based off that and his long lectures barely cover tests at all. Exams are implications of knowledge rather than definitions or examples given. Only way to pass is to know everything forwards and back. Requires 10+ hrs/week to study. He makes you feel stupid for not knowing something. Harsh!
For a difficult class you should feel comfortable asking questions but he made me feel shamed into feeling stupid. His whole thing is that he cares about you but when I asked a question he told me if I cant read an email, stop asking, a really unprofessional response(not enough space on this to tell the full story) but I wont take him again
Great class! Definitely a tough class, as most A&P classes are, but he gives plenty of opportunity to earn points. Tests are multiple choice and he gives you the opportunity to look over what you missed. Although attendance isn't required it is imperative to helping you pass the class. Over all I would definitely recommend taking A&P with him!
The class is going to be difficult no matter what professor you take. Milne explains at the start of the semester that it isn't about memorization but learning. You HAVE to learn the material, and use EVERYTHING they give you access to study: MHConnect, your book, study groups, SI, study centers.
Prof. Milne was very attentive and devoted to his lecture. He facilitated a learning environment for students you are serious about their academics. I had Prof. Milne for BIO 189, and BIO 223 and learned a lot about human anatomy and physiology.
Professor Milne devoted a lot of time and efforts to his instructions and his students. He was always available to clarify any question I had, as well as offered after-hour help. Thank you Prof. Milne.
This semester really made me realize your grade in Bio 223 really depends on your prof and how he teaches. This class you will have to read pretty much everything in the book in order to pass. His lectures are so boring, makes it harder to pay attention, considering the material is difficult. Jealous of my lab classmates who has easy lecture lol
His lectures are clear and to the point. You will learn a lot from him because you have no choice but to learn everything, including things not covered in the lecture. For example, learning the diseases associated with each chapter. At least one will pop up in the tests. Would take again if it didnt affect my gpa. Easier professors out there WARNED
Hes not the best at explaining things. You really need to read the entire book, no joke. Most of the things he explained doing lecture PowerPoints wasnt even on the exams. I didnt bother listening to lecture anymore since all he would say is go over and read the pages.
If you want to teach yourself from the book, this is the class for you. DOES NOT WANT TO HELP YOU and ignores your emails! His lectures online were a complete waste of time and he makes you sound like the dumbest person on the planet. Yes this class is already difficult but he adds more stress DO NOT TAKE HIM. Very rude in his emails to respond.
I have never had an issue in Biology until I came into this class. Most of his test questions are not on the power point. This is mostly self taught, get ready to read! I learned, understood, and memorized more in Lab than lecture.
To beat a dead horse A&P is a reading heavy class so it's already an uphill battle. My big gripe about the class is it's textbook definition of death by powerpoint. He doesn't try to engage the students. Please read, the text. Powerpoints notes don't always show up on quiz. Use SI and MH connect. Milne means well but should update his teaching
Whoever gave this guy good ratings is on drugs. Class with this guy is not of this world. His tests were so difficult. I even did better in my worst subject of math. If youre not a talented student. You wont do good with this teacher. He just makes it too hard to pass. And his explanation of the material is just very poor.
