Great teacher, although his tests are quite difficult. Pay attention in class, take good notes, do the reading, and you should be fine! (Very little extra credit opportunities, but it does help!)
Tests are easy and based on exactly what he says in class an the exact pages he requires you to read in the textbook. He has a very strong personality. So if you are easy to offend, I would not choose him. Sex is a subject that tends to make people upset, but he talks very accurately and and backs up his statements. I highly recommend him.
if you are a liberal atheist you'll absolutely love everything he says, if you're not--he may get on your nerves, but he does make for an interesting prof. his tests can be difficult sometimes. you have to go to class and watch the movies too. not my favorite prof overall, but not that bad.
Definitely not a professor for everybody because of his strong opinions, but I found him incredibly interesting and hilarious. His lectures were always engaging. As long as you come to class, take notes, and do the assigned reading, the tests are a cakewalk.
This is my favorite class. He's awesome. He tells you what you need to know and everything is on the exam. But you need to sure to read the text book (which he wrote) because sometimes he wont cover everything and tell you to read the rest. He's funny and sarcastic and is straightforward. I wish he was staying at UCF! =(
Awesome teacher and class. He says some rude thing but as long as you are not uptight then you will be entertained in the class. Make sure you go to class(stay he whole time), pay attention to the videos, and read the book. If you do all this the tests will be a breeze. DO NOT UNDERESTIMATE his first test. TAKE THIS CLASS IF YOU CAN.
Make sure you go to class(stay he whole time), pay attention to the videos, and read the book. cool blunt teacher lol at times. if your late for his final even 20 minutes still walk in and ask to take it
The textbook has almost all the information in his lectures, so read that and you're fine. However, when he does movies in class, you need to be there for those because there is always a few test questions on them. His tests are short but only moderately hard. He's funny. He will help you if you need it but you have to go to his office hours.
The class was pretty easy, just take notes and read the textbook to prepare for the tests. Negy's personality can be a little harsh sometimes. He has a short temper and doesn't care about offending people. Just be prepared for that.
great teacher. can be harsh at time, but thats negy. you'll learn to love it.
His tests are difficult, but if you go to class, take notes, and read the book you will be fine. I got a C, but I was not big into the reading. You can't read or go to class without each other, as questions come from lectures, the book, and videos. All my friends who deeply read the book came out with As, and I wish I did the same.
Overall he is one of the funniest teachers that there are at UCF. His tests are mainly from his text. They're not hard just sections in book where no one would care to read are like 2-3 questions. His tests are twenty questions which makes you have to study the text. My favorite teacher of last semester. He will be gone until Fall 2011 though
he is my favorite professor by far I enjoyed going to every class because I loved his lectures they were so interesting and detailed, many people think he's offensive but those people really need to get over themselves, he wrote his own textbook it's cheap and everything on tests come from there and his lectures, but still study hard
Negy is awesome, super funny and very helpful
Wonderful professor! Just be sure you study a lot for tests though. :)
Very easy, but you need to go to class to get all the notes. He brings people in for what we're learning. The movies are important and they end up on tests. He is funny and sarcastic and tries to make the class pretty fun.
first off, YOU DO NOT HAVE TO GOTO CLASS. Everything you need is in the text book, read it and learn it thats what I did. He gives 4 tests (non-cumulative) and they're 20 questions each, out of those 1-2 are about something he specifically went over in class, as long as you know the rest of the material you'll be fine. VERY EASY A.
Negy is great! he's a bit sarcastic. Christians may get offended but i personally think he says what he says because he may have once been one. but its interesting. study EVERYTHING! go to class if you want a good grade. i worked HARD n got a B. so do the Extra credit n study minor details! and whatever he repeats and pay attention to videos
Negy is a great professor. He's interesting, very insightful and really makes you think. I'd highly suggest taking his classes.
Tests are unclear and hard to understand, not the concepts just the way he words the questions which makes you hate the class. Neggy thinks he is funny but he is just really annoying and he sounds like a woman. I would not take this class he is very unhelpful and his tests suck.
I'm taking his class now and it's not difficult materiel, however I find his tests to be hard simply because he picks the most discreet things to ask you about. Since it's only 20 questions every time, you miss 3 and you're already down to an 85. The amount of time you save by not having any homework is inverted into studying for his tests. A lot.
A little smug, but personally, I find it's what makes him a funny and interesting teacher. Oh and if you're religious, get ready to hear him talk down to you for believing in fairy tales. (Luckily for me, I'm not religious.)
Very interesting. Don't take the class if you get easily offended, but if you don't then definitely take it. Tests are not too hard, only 20 questions, so definitely study. Tests are on notes in class, book, and movies in class. Attend class and it's an easy class.
Neggy has one of the worst classes on campus DO NOT TAKE
Hard tests and Charles could not be more unhelpful ucf fire him!
Negy is a good guy! He is very outspoken so if you are religious and you are easily offended, save yourself the anxiety. I however am not so I thoroughly enjoyed his teachings! He can be harsh to some at times but it should be taken with a grain of salt! Reading is mandatory because he tends to pull questions straight out of the book. Good luck!
Negy is such an amazing teacher. GO TO CLASS and read the textbook and you can EASILY get an A in his class. He is witty and his classes are anything but boring. By far my favorite teacher and i would recommend his class to EVERYONE!
This is my favorite professor so far at UCF. I enjoyed this class with him so much that I signed up for Sexual Behavior with him. He is very outspoken and clear. He uses humor in his lectures and clearly loves to teach. Tests were not so easy that you didn't need to study, but were not tricky. Read the text and you will do fine TAKE THIS PROFESSOR.
The test questions didn't always seem to be related to the coursework. I used my own study techniques and didn't do as well as I hoped, but others who used the study method he suggested say they've done better than they expected. I enjoyed the class so much, thought, that I'll be taking as many of my Psych classes as I can with him.
Man what an awesome professor! I always looked forward to his class because of how interesting he kept it! He's a funny guy and tells you things straight up without sweetening them. Don't miss class or else there'll be a random question on the test you won't know. READ & STUDY HARD! His tests are intense but not impossible. I highly recommend him!
He's a fairly good teacher. He talks about sex for every topic. He wrote his own book, so it helps on the 4 tests. The class is interesting, though you might walk out offended some days. He's very opinionated and the class is somewhat biased. But it's not hard to pass the class with an A or B. Even though his tests are only 20 ?s.
Amazing class! Like everyone has said, if you're religious or feel uncomfortable with sex, you'll get sick of him quick! If not, you'll love the course! Best class I've taken so far!
I love Negy! If you're very religious and easily offended, youll probably hate him. He speaks his mind and is not afraid to do so, with some harsh truth behind it. I share a lot of his views so I enjoyed the class. BEWARE! his tests are very DETAILED. he'll ask what someone said in a vid he showed!. Read between the lines(notes/book). go to class.
The man speaks his mind, without a care of who he might offend. I do not always agree with him, but it's quite funny how the class reacts on certain discussions like religion. He tends to ramble off topic a lot, which can be frustrating. He's kind of a sloppy instructor, but overall he's not that bad.
Definitely need to go to class to get the notes, or borrow notes about the videos and slides he shows in class. He puts questions on the test that you won't know unless you have these notes. He loves challenging student's ideas (especially religion). I thought it was hilarious hearing people get defensive, and he seemed to be amused too.
Great professor and he keeps the class interesting. He does state is opinions when giving lectures, so if you're incredibly sensitive and unable to accept it as his opinion you should probably not take his classes. I, personally, would love to take more classes with him and look forward to doing it in the future. Love him!
Professor is really fair.He tells you just as it is. People claim his test were difficult but that's because they never read the book before hand. Read the text book, attend class, take notes and you have an A.It's that easy. Of course you have to study but its not overwhelming like other general psychology classes who have a massive textbook.
Wow where to start. He is a great professor just dont ask stupid questions. He will give you stupid answers. He had a trany, adult store manager and more come in and speak to the class lol. Take HIM EASY
Honestly, best professor I have ever had. Super worthwhile, super interesting, funny guy. Just take notes in class, study them, pay attention to the films, and go to class. You WILL get an A.
Class is interesting and easy, as long as you show up and read your book. By the end, you will have read the whole textbook cover to cover if you want to get A's on the tests. Tests are pretty easy and come primarily from the book. About 2 of the 20 questions are from class videos. Half of final is from videos. DO THE RESEARCH HOURS!
TAKE HIM! Amazing teacher. Hilarious. Very entertaining. Short, relatively easy tests- 20 questions, but 30 on the final. Go to class, the notes are important and he plays movies without prior notice (the movies are on the test). Make sure to read the book, it's actually interesting to read. I wish I could take this class again, loved it!!
Tests consist of only 20 problems or so and this class has gotten a lot harder since last year be careful not to take this class because you think it's easy you actually have to read the book completely and memorize if you want a B. It's a good class ONLY if you're really interested in the material other wise it's just really hard.
I took Negy for cross-cultural and sexual behaviors. I wish I could take more with him. He is so entertaining and really held my attention in class. His opinions are great... and he is very opinionated. Beware: if you try to argue against him, you WILL lose and he'll make you look stupid. Classes were pretty easy too if you study even wink.
This is a great class if you are ok with a professor actually making you think for once. Expect to be offended by at least one or two things he says, but also expect to learn a lot about yourself and others. Read the textbook and go to class. His tests are short, but that doesn't mean that they are super easy.
PSY2012&SOP2772. He wrote the book for his PSY2012 class, DEFINITELY buy it and highlight as he talks in class. Easy A for 2012 and 2772 if you pay attention. 2772 does get boring in the 2nd half. He is a little confrontational, do NOT take if easily offended. Otherwise, he's hysterical to listen to. Tests are very short but very reasonable.
Negy is very interesting, but can be blunt. He sometimes tests on more minor details, but as long as you go to class you'll be fine. Take notes and don't skip and it's an easy A.
For PSY2012, not an easy A at all. You will study the whole textbook think you know everything and then you take the test bam 3 wrong. Doesn't sound like a lot but his tests are only 20 questions on 4 chapters its ridiculous. Not an easy A unless you retain information above the average student. If you put work into it and study hard expect a B
He tries to push his beliefs and ideals down people's throats, and then says he hates christians bc they want to push their beliefs onto others. How ironic! Anyway, he does not test based on your understanding of the subject, but mostly on wether or not you did your work. So,don't skip and read book. Be prepared for very specific tests..A rather easy A
I had Dr. Negy for both PSY 2012 and SOP 2772. He really knows what he is talking about. Tests are fair, but sometimes they include small details that might be easy to miss, so pay attention in class! You can easily earn an A if you try.
I loved Dr. Negy !! He is so funny and shows you things that you probably have never seen before. Not very hard classes. It is true what people say, he is an Atheist, so if you believe in ANY religion, he will criticize heavily and directly. Opinionated. But this I actually liked !! Very smart guy when it comes to science and psychology. The Best!
took this class online over the summer. 6 weeks. You HAVE to read the textbook chapters, if you do, you WILL get an A on the Exams. Trust me. It's sooooo easy, just read and you'll be surprised how easy the exams are. The only grades are the exams. thats it. i would do it again because i learned so much reading that book. awesome class and teacher!
I actually enjoy going to Dr. Negy's class because he keeps his lectures interesting and motivates his students to think deeply. I wish I had more classes I could take with and I have nothing bad to say about him. Wonderful professor.
I have had Negy for about three courses over the years and he is very controversial among the students. I personally enjoyed his classes a lot-- if you go to lecture, take notes, skim reading, you should do well. Exams are all 20-40 questions, pretty easy. Go to the first class or two and you will find out quickly if he is for you or not.
Dr. Negy is an extremely outspoken atheist. From the first day of class, he speaks of the nonexistence of God and Satan and the religious bigotry of Christians. He offensively challenges one to become an independent thinker. Refers to his textbook every other sentence without any further detail. Wish I had another professor instead.
His textbook is readable and clear. An easy class. However, he is very focused on his appearance towards others...he'll cut down anything you have to say if it means he can make the class laugh or look smart. He's very controversial with out applying bias to himself. Textbook great, but I'm not paying him to shape me into his idea of perfection
Charles Negy is the best teacher I've ever had, period. If you're close minded though, don't take his class. If you're open to learning and want an intellectual opinion on ANYTHING, he's the guy to listen to.
AWESOME I LOVE HIS CLASS!!!!!! :)
I also took him for Psy 3723. He makes class very interesting, and fun. For his test make sure you KNOW his notes and Read the Book. Great Professor
Negy is a really good teacher and his lectures are very interesting. but his tests are SUPER random and are only 20 questions. so you have to know the book like the back of your hand, as well as the notes in order to pass his tests.
I took Negy for Human sexual behavior and intro to psychology and he is one of my favorite professors. He makes class very interesting and the tests are fairly easy. Just study your notes and read the book and you will get an A.
Took him for General Psychology my first semester 2 years ago, and he is still one of my favorite professors I've ever had. Amazing guy with a sense of humor - I absolutely recommend Dr. Negy!
Awesome. Very animated professor with a great sense of humor and openness. Tests can be a bit challenging, he includes minor details. His classes are guaranteed interesting and funny. NOT for ANYONE who is easily offended, especially very religious folks or diehard republicans. He accepts other ideas, but will embarrass you if you show bigotry.
he is very funny and loves the subject. you need to read his book and pay close attention because he picks random things for his exams, which are only 20 questions and there are 4 exams. sometimes he blatanly makes fun of people. not afraid to tell his opinion. definitely a fun class, it was my favorite class to go to.
great teacher. Wants you to think in his class. Defiantly would recommend him. Outspoken athiest, not for people who are easily offended
Good teacher, a bit outspoken but most of the time funny. You can get easily offended in the class, but it's not a big deal. No homework, just 4 tests. Class isn't mandatory, but he tests on stuff you'll only see in class- like videos. You need to buy the book as test questions are from that too. Had I not taken Psych in HS, I might of struggled.
Awesome. That is all.
He is an amazing professor and a funny guy. Knows what he is talking about and his book is very interesting. Although his tests are very difficult and most of the time not even on stuff in the book and if it is it is on very minute details. STAY AWAY IF YOU CARE ABOUT YOUR GPA! Other professors are way easier for this class.
He is very smart and knows a lot about the subject, but his tests are very difficult and he tests on the tiniest details of what he goes over both in class and in the textbook. I would recommend staying away from this class if you want an easy A because this class is not for that.
One of my favorite professors so far at UCF. Professor Negy is hilarious, and makes the class very enjoyable. Make sure to always listen to the little things he says in class, cause it might show up on the test. Definitely read his book, cause it really helps on the test. The class can be tough, but with hard work I Managed to get by with an A.
His test always had few questions that were extremely little and not relevant, or just flat out stupid questions. Since his test are only 20 questions those few really stupid questions can screw up your grade
He is funny and good at keeping his students interested in his lectures, but then when it comes to the tests you cant help but be annoyed. Super random questions over random tiny details he doesn't even talk about in class. taking notes is mandatory if you wanna pass because if u miss one question on a test you're automatically at a 95 and so on..
If you decide to take this class you do have to go in with an open mind and I already knew that, but I was not impressed at all with this class and his teaching style. He was very sarcastic and degrading towards things that do not agree with his own opinion. As open minded as he seems to be, he's very close minded with topics regarding religion.
I love him.
He's funny and a good teacher. Tests are all mutiple choice but kind of random, based on both- class notes and the book. Attendance isn't mandatory but I would recommend going.
Must buy the textbook! Great professor, good sense of humor. He only offends the people who are not willing to be open minded. Read the text (several times if possible) and attend class/take notes (he shows videos that appear on exams) and you should be fine.
I LOVE Dr. Negy! He is so funny and I loved going to his class. He speaks his mind and makes you really think about issues that normally aren't thought deeply about. He makes you have a much broader perspective on life and on different cultures. His tests are a bit difficult but you'll be fine if you listen in class and read the book.
If you go to every class and take notes from the videos and his lectures you should be fine. Also make sure to read his book and if a term is bolded make sure you know it! I got an A, not overly hard just takes root memorization of material for the test.
I think all of Negy's classes are interesting!
I took him for Cross-Cultural Psych. His class was easy. He's hilarious. Don't take him if easily offended. Hated how his tests are. 20 questions, 5 tests. Every single point counts. One extra credit opportunity and it's only 3 points. I recommend this class and Prof. Negy.
Got a high A!!!! My favorite professor. Really makes you think. Very interesting and funny. Not hard if you read and go to class. Go to class..you will get a lot out of it.
Read the book. Go to class, you will have fun, and the videos are on the test. He is very opinionated, and will humiliate you in class if you misbehave. I had to pretty much memorize the textbook to pass the tests with an A. Overall would recommended, put in the work. He seems to care more about seeing if you paid attention than what you know.
How can you not love him?? I LOVEEE him
You'll go to the first few lectures and think he's hilarious and that his lectures are great. Then you'll get the first exam, wonder where he got the questions and fail it. I am typically an A/B student and got a D in this class. Your grade is based on ONLY exams and research hours that will not help your grade much. DO NOT TAKE HIM.
DO NOT TAKE HIM! there are wayy easier & better teachers for psych. there are only 4tests & they are no where near easy, even if you study a lot. half of the questions arent even in the book or lectures. he screwed up my gpa, & im an A/B student! AVOID HIM
tests are impossible. he is not helpful at all. and his attitude is justhorrible. there are way easier teachers for this class who will actually help you.do NOt take him
DO NOT FALL FOR ANY TRICKS! This class is outright impossible !! You will only get 4 grades and they will not be good. They are 20 question tests that have nearly nothing to do with the book. The questions will be 80% based on what he talks about in class 15% videos and 5% of stuff from the text book
Negy is my favorite professor and Cross-Cultural is my favorite class. 5 tests with 20 questions each - it sucks but so long as you study you're in good shape. Go to the lectures; they are important for the test, read the chapters as they are used in the test as well, and don't get too offend at what he says. He will make you think.
After taking him for 3 different courses, Negy's class is always extremely entertaining and interesting. His tests can be pretty detailed, but you just have to be willing to put in a little work. They are definitely not "impossible" like some of the comments say below. I'd definitely recommend taking him.
I despise this man. He is a horrible teacher and deep down inside hopes you fail. Only 4 test and thats your grade so theres no way to pick it up. He thinks of random questions to put on the test to make sure you fail. Went to his offices hours for his help and he told me based on my answers on his test that I will fail in college and in life.
He is a great professor who is extremely knowledgeable about Cross-Cultural Psychology. His lectures are entertaining and fun. It's easy to learn because he forces you to pay attention. You must take notes, read the text, and pay attention to the videos. If you do that, you will do fine.
You have to memorize the text book, show up to class and take detailed notes. I'm an A student and getting an A wasn't impossible but if I didn't have such an easy semester it would have been difficult. If you're easily offended don't take the class and if you speak up for something you believe in that he doesn't agree with you will get embarrassed
I had him for two classes this semester and both the classes were fun and pretty good. I would not recommend him for general psych from his comments on it though. His tests are very brutal, however, and test little facts like percentages gone over in class or in the text book. Wait for an easier semester or pick a different class if you need a GPA.
Not as great as everyone makes him seem. Beside 3pt extra credit he does not help you out. There are 4 test and that is what your grade is based on. Test are okay, I personally did not feel prepared for all 4 test. Questions from the movie you watch weeks ago in class. Poor planning for class, way ahead of syllabus. Wouldn't take him again.
#1: Don't take this if you are easily offended, extremely religious and offended by non believers, or are afraid of sex. Dr. Negy is kind of arrogant but he brings up some valid flaws in our society. Tests are easy...just pay attention. Took anatomy, physics, and orgo and got an A in all 4. Study for a few hours before the exam and you're good.
If you're easily offended, do not take this class. You must read the book and attend class for the videos, he doesn't put them up. Tests are 20 questions (3 tests) and the final is 30. It doesn't give you much room to miss any questions to maintain an A. The other 10 points is based on Sona Credits. He's okay, but take him if he's your LAST resort.
He is very offensive and if you are like me and have a set of morals, you are going to be dreading the class before you walk in the door. His tests are literally impossible. I am a straight A student except for his class. Managed a B with luck from Sona hours, even though those were inputted wrong and I should have got 12/10 not 11/12. Don't take.
He is an AWESOME professor. Yes he can be offensive, but he's just voicing his opinion and he encourages us to voice ours. Some people just asks questions that upset him, so he sometimes doesn't respond as nicely as people want him too. Do well on your test and use the sons credits to your advantage. Study chapters ahead of time.
Great teacher if you don't take offense to his non beliefs. Besides that very knowledgeable and open to all topic areas.
I absolutely loved going to his lectures. He is a very intelligent man and he says things that are very interesting and make you think. He really is a great teacher. The only problem is that his exams are very hard, and I would spend up to 10 hours studying for one exam. Oh and he loves to talk about sex. Funny guy.
Professor Negy was a great professor who actually made learning enjoyable. He made the material appealing to the class and was very apt to intellectual conversations within the classroom.
Very good prof
4 grades. I didn't do well on the first two because THE QUESTIONS AREN'T ABOUT ANYTHING WE TALK ABOUT OR IN THE BOOK. I am thinking of withdrawing. Ridiculous. Funny and all, just looks to screw your GPA over.
Lecture is mandatory to attend. You must read the book. He asks very specific questions on the test, so if you do not study you will not do well. I studied my butt off and managed to get a B. I had numerous friends who dropped the class because they were failing. You must work for your grade.
Super specific on his exams, but that's because you actually have to read the book AND attend lectures! But who wouldn't want to go to class?...he's amazing and hilarious. Took him for Sexual Behavior (received a B) and am currently in Cross-Cultural and will hopefully also get a B. I always study last minute though... :/ TAKE HIM. I LOVE HIM.
As a prof. Negy is great. He knows what he is talking about and is specific about what he expects from his students. Read every word from his textbook and attend every lecture. Not attending is an easy way to fail this course. Try not to be too sensitive. I didn't like what he had to say about religion, but I can't deny that he's a great professor.
He gets kind of preachy about atheism, but I agree with pretty much everything he says. He teaches well, textbook is pretty clear. Tests are short and difficult. Go to the classes, read the text book and study, you'll learn but it isnt easy.
Strongly recommend not taking this course with negy. Yes he's funny and all but when it comes down to it, the only thing that matters is getting a good grade. He only has 4 tests and they are only 20 questions each, which screwed me over. Mainly because his tests were honestly 40% textbook content and 60% random stuff that was irrelevant. AVOID!!
I would recommend the class if you're going to put the time into studying. As long as you read the book and go to class you will pass. Although his grading system is obnoxious, he only gives 4 tests and thats most of your grade, he is a great teacher. The class is very interesting and you will enjoy his lectures.
He is funny and it makes the class interesting. Overall, he was very offensive and he is NOT helpful at all and he doesn't really care about you! When he teaches he thinks he's always right and he wants you to think like him. The book is definitely necessary! His test are hard and and short, so study! I recommend NOT taking him if you can help it.
he doesn't care about the student at all, the test are 20 questions 10 questions will be about the material and the rest are just random stuff. don't miss class !!!!!
I took the class twice because I didn't pass the first time, but honestly I still enjoyed every lecture. He WILL tell you his opinion and if you are easily offended don't take this class. But if you're not easily offended and can take a joke, you will love (most) of his lectures. The tests are rough and you NEED to read the book and pay attention.
The book was easy to read and the lectures were generally entertaining, but Negy gives atheist rants almost every lecture, and won't listen to any contradictory input his students try to give in class. He is a poor teacher, and tests on details that aren't important to psychology. He does a disservice to his students interested in psychology.
Very controversial. You will know his opinions on just about all of his material by the end of the class. Pretty funny. If you show up to his lectures and take notes, you'll be fine. His "textbook" is just a print out of his powerpoints. Just take notes on your laptop. Saves you $65. Tests are easy if you show up to his lectures.
The reviews for him really scared me, but TAKE NEGY. He's very passionate about what he teaches and provides accurate information. He is very opinionated and vocal about it, but if you can't handle that, you shouldn't be in a college class. The textbook was a printout of the slides and the tests were straight from the notes and easy. Great teacher!
Honestly, if you show up and listen, you'll pas if not get an A. You could read his book, since it is the same, word for word, as his lectures, but then you'd be missing out on hilarious lectures. There has not been a class period that the entire lecture hall has not burst into the laughter at least once. Love this class
Highly recommend him to anyone. He's very funny and makes lectures so entertaining. Just show up and read his textbook and you will pass no problem. He has me interested on making psychology my major.
I think Negy is a really good teacher and he's really passionate about what he teaches. He incorporates his own opinion a lot and tries to make jokes. You'll watch videos and the power points are straightforward. The book is just a printout of all the slides w some fill in the blank so if you always come to class you don't need to buy it
Dr. Negy makes the course very interesting. He is hilarious and his lectures won't have you bored. Half of his test questions come from his lectures and the other half come from his book (he wrote it and it is very cheap). Just review your lecture notes and read the book, maybe make some note cards and you shouldn't have a problem passing.
Dr. Negy's class is very interesting. He is hilarious. He only has 4 tests including the final, but the final is not cumulative. Half of his questions come from his lectures and the other half come from his textbook that he wrote. Don't worry, the book is very cheap. Just study your in-class notes and read the book for the tests, and you will pass.
The irony is Professor Negy likes to emphasize upon the bigots of the world especially people who are religious (mainly Christians) yet he is a huge bigot himself. I have witnessed him embarrass students for their spoken opinions. If he doesn't like what have to you say he will minimize you.
Your grade consists of FOUR TESTS (4), he requires you to purchase his published text and a book (Sun Chief). It was a lot to read and if you want to pass this class you MUST READ THE BOOKS. The material covered in class is 50% of what is on his test & 50% from the 2 books. If you want to pass read everything and take notes on the videos!!
Negy is highly opinionated, and is not shy of bashing certain groups of people. Although I never took personal offense, some students might. Aside from that, he's a great teacher, knows his stuff well, and his notes are very helpful. His tests are tough, just study hard and pay attention! He tends to ask lots of statistical questions.
I took Dr. Negy's class about 5 years ago and even now that I'm in Grad school at UCF, I still want to go sit in on his lectures. His lectures are interesting and straightforward and they really make you think about your own opinion on the matter. Great professor and if anyone gets the chance, you should definitely take him as much as possible!
The class consist of 4 test (only 20 questions) and 10 pts for case studies. He gives you 2 extra pts if you do 12 hrs. Make sure you go to every lecture! Test can be very specific but if you read the chapters and in class notes you'll do fine. His lectures are very interesting (he's hilarious) and his textbook isn't a bore to read.
Must go to class. His exams are really specific and he'll ask questions on his lectures or on the videos he played in class. Fun and interesting class. No limits in what is discussed. If you are sensitive on certain subjects I don't recommend you taking him. He's hilarious and overall a great professor.
Defiantly need the book to pass, and attendance isn't mandatory, but every test has at least 3 questions from the lecture that were not in the book, along with videos questions. 4 test, 25 questions each. Read the chapters and take notes before class, it will make the material easier to remember. Note cards & rereading chapters will give you an A
TAKE WITH CAUTION: This professor is very vague. He does not explain the material in depth. Several questions on exams that were not covered in class. Literally reads directly off the power-points. I asked multiple questions in class in which he had no answer to and told me to just look it up.
His classes are a lot of fun, if you're an open-minded person. Lecture notes are not the same as what is in the book, and he also watches videos, all of which will come up on the tests. He gives some extra credit sometimes when he has students doing Honors In the Major needing participants. He can be blunt, but it is part of the experience.
Very easy class. 4 tests of 25 questions. His book are his own notes, you may or may not need it. Just take notes of his powerpoint slides, study and you will pass.
Grrrrreat!
Negy is hilarious and a great teacher. The class is based off of 4 tests that are all relatively hard. There's so much information and you don't know what to expect. Just study earlier before the test. The text is his own book that you fill in as you go.
Makes his tests based off all the lectures so if you skip just one class you'll regret it, his powerpoints are no help at all. He is always off topic in class and he makes you feel completely stupid if you go to him for any kind of help. Would NOT take again. Avoid him at all costs. He changes his text every semester so you have to buy it new...
If you disagree with Negy and don't have anything to back up your statement, he will call you out on it. That's why people write poor reviews. He is a brilliant professor who wrote his own book on the subject. Study the book, take the notes and the class is a breeze.
just a big flamboyant Fred Flinstone
He was awesome. His tests are straight forward, just read the book and pay attention in class. He has no problem addressing bigotry and showing students that there is more then their point of view and their corner of the world .
As long as you read the textbook, you'll be fine. He wrote it himself, so he cut out all of the unnecessary info. Tests are simple if you study the textbook. You need to go to class, too, because he'll include a few lecture questions and video questions on his test. Overall a great professor, even if he's a little strange sometimes.
The lecture can get pretty boring and go until the end of class but he is a really interesting teacher. He tries to keep lecture interesting by adding personal stories or funny sayings. YOU NEED TO GO TO CLASS. All the notes he discusses are pretty important. His tests are off the book and what is said in class, so you need to study both.
Tough tests, he's really funny and makes his lectures interesting.
His views about all the different cultures and the class discussions were very enlightening. The textbook was well written and easy to read and understand. I really enjoyed this class and I can honestly say I learned a lot. However, I will say that if you tend to get easily offended and are closed-minded this may not be that class for you.
One of the best professors I've ever had, don't miss your chance on taking one of his classes. If you show up to class and study you will do well.
At first I was terrified to take this class due to his mixed reviews. However, my interest in the course itself overcame my fear of Negy. Quickly, I realized how amazing the class is. It's not too difficult and very interesting! A lot of it is actually common sense. Be warned, if you're a religious conservative you might get offended at his jokes.
First off if you are very religious, or get offended easily. DO NOT I repeat DO NOT take this class. He is very funny but he most definitely pushes boundaries. Don't raise your hand in class he will make you look stupid even if you're right. His tests are 20 to 25 questions, but cover 5 chapters . A lot of studying ,but very entertaining.
The class and material itself is interesting but he just ruined it for me. Going to every class and studying couldn't help me. He asks the most random things, on one exam he asked from what country was the artifact he brought in . HE MENTIONED THIS IN CLASS ONCE. There are only 5 tests that seem easy but you just never know what he's going to ask.
All the tests are from a combination of the textbook and the lectures/videos. While the content of the class is interesting, the tests are basically trying to weed out those who do not come to class and reward those who do by asking questions on the test that aren't pertinent to the content. Funny guy, but don't come if you're easily offended.
Attendance is mandatory, and the textbook is a must. All tests are 20 questions and comprise (almost) the entirety of your grade. Absolutely hilarious, but an extreme intellectual - dubs religious beliefs "silliness," decries anti-sex culture, does not let people have their ivory towers. The overly sensitive and easily offended, steer clear.
Attendance is not mandatory but i would suggest getting a note buddy for lectures/videos. Everyone says he is an ass but I enjoyed his class. I got a b because I got a c on exam 3. but just read and take notes and you'll be fine. Make sure to do the research part!
This class was very interesting. But if you are not a good test taker then don't take this class because that is all it is based off of. 5 exams, 20 questions each. Unfortunately, if you get only 3 questions wrong on every exam (like me) you will end up with a B. He is not afraid to insult anyone and speak his mind so beware if you are sensitive.
Professor Negy is awesome! His lectures are interesting and he does everything he can to enlighten his students. It's not about getting the degree to get a job with him. It's more about getting an education to better your understanding of the world around you. DON'T miss class! Your grade WILL suffer. Read the text!! Study class notes!!!
I loved his cross cultural psych class. His lectures were interesting and he was very passionate. That being said.. if you are one to get butt hurt often over everything then this class is not for you. He tells you how things are not sugar coated or cloaked in political correctness.
I really enjoyed Professor Negy. I thought I was receiving a 'B,' however, I recently checked myucf and I actually got an A which was a pleasant surprise. He is a very educated man with a great sense of humor, his lectures almost always held my attention-- and the videos were always entertaining. Just take good notes and read the text thoroughly.
I took Dr. Negy about 5 years ago (yikes) for General Psych and Sexual Behavior. Now, as a PhD student at UCF myself, I still consider Professor Negy to be one of my favorite and most memorable professors. I was lucky to have him as a teacher. I would highly recommend him. He is very open minded and challenges students to be open minded as well.
Negy makes this class unnecessarily hard. I am not saying that he's a bad teacher nor am I saying his class is impossible, but compared to other Psychology classes this is the hardest professor you can take. What is a B for negy's class is probably the equivalent to an A in another professor's class for the same course.
Dr. Negy is not helpful if you visit him during office hours, but he's funny and his class is very easy if you take good notes in class and study his textbook (know the chapters inside and out) before each test. The tests have intricate details as opposed to general concepts. The final is not cumulative!
Great lecturer. He holds his students attention well. Very very anti religion. It does not really matter what religion you follow because he will find a way to put you down. Tests were fair as long as you read the book, took notes, and studied.
Negy is not a "tough" grader, it's just that the class is only worth 100 points. So, if you miss 4 questions on 3 tests, the highest grade you can get in the class is an 88% and that's if you get 100% on everything else. This is the only class I read the whole textbook from cover to cover. GO TO CLASS!!! He asks questions about videos in class.
He's funny, opinionated, and is happy to let you know when you're wrong. He isn't PC, so if you can't take other people's opinions, look elsewhere. The class is straightforward; to pass you need to take good notes and when it comes to the book, memorize the things he would point out in class and all of the statistics. Study and you will get an A.
If you are open minded, and do not get offended easily then Dr. Negy is hilarious. He says it like it is and enjoys hearing students opinions. His class is very interesting, and can be challenging. You will need to get the book, and show up to all the lectures. Tests are difficult but its not a impossible to do well.
Negy is an amazing! He's very blunt and he will challenge you to think hard about why you think a certain way. If you are easily offended or if religion is like your number 1 priority then you probably won't like him. HIs class was super interesting and his lectures are always fun. Tests are decent but he gives plenty of extra credit so not bad
I would not advice anyone to take this class with Negy. He makes this class unnecessarily hard. Take another Professor. Will NEVER take this professor again. Test have nothing to do will psychology or important information. Don't take him
I highly recommend anyone who is taking general psych to take Negy. He gives amazing* lectures and as long as you go to the lectures and read the chapters before the test, you will definitely get an A. His textbook is the only i've read front to back, but it is actually interesting. He is a great professor, and gives free answers on all tests.
His opinions are a but too strong and pervasive for gen psych. It is probable that I will remember most of the topics covered because he is very animated. However, he certainly does not offer a comprehensive overview of psychology, and seems a little overpreoccupied with sexuality and race. His tests aren't hard, they are random. Need good memory.
Test questions have nothing to do with psychology
He's very opinionated, which isn't necessarily a bad thing depending on how sensitive you are. Lectures are long but he does a good job at keeping them interesting and entertaining. Exams aren't that hard AS LONG as you read the textbook and go to class.
I took Negy for Cross Cultural. I have never had a teacher like him before and I am positive I never will again. He is very opinionated and a little aggressive when it comes to expressing how he feels. He will not hold back and class discussions become interesting because of that. You must read and show up to do well!
I had him for Cross-Cultural and my grade consisted of 5 exams and one extra credit. He is super duper opinionated and he doesn't listen to other people's opinions so arguing with him does nothing. Super controversial and sparks heated arguments in class. He's intelligent, but likes to knock people down. Take the class if you can take his heat.
Man, I just love this guy. Of course, overly sensitive people will dislike him because he is very opinionated. However, his course is straight to the point. He gives amazing lectures and provided his own textbook that was rather small (read it all) but had everything you needed for the exam. Loved his course and his book!
There are four tests, all based on lecture. Take good notes and make sure to study them well before the tests. Really does not care for your opinion and makes his opinion known. Shows videos and brings in guest speakers.
You defiantly will not fail this class. Negy is full of himself and not very helpful to his students. Needs to learn respect. When you have a problem and email about something about the course it should not be like pulling teeth and he should n0t try to essentially down play you intelligence. Clearly teaches for the check not a true academic.
I loved him, I thought he was a fantastic instructor and I learned a lot from his Sexual Behaviors class. The only things that are graded are the exams, which encompass the videos he shows, lecture notes, and textbook readings. I went through without the book, but my friend had one so you might want to consider sharing. Class always ended early
I am so glad took professor Negy!! He is by far my favorite professor at UCF. You not only learn so much from him but he makes it so fun and interesting. If you're one to take things personally and get upset he's not the professor for you...
Learned so much from him! Don't take him if you're sensitive though..
This class was definitely one of my favorite classes in my college career. Kept everything interesting and enjoyable. He is strongly opinionated, but if you can withstand it the class is amazing. Definitely read and outline his textbook, around half of his questions come from it.
If you come to class and read the textbook you will do fine. He is very opinionated (especially towards religion) so if you can't handle strong opinions you'll hate him, but if you don't care then he is hilarious and keeps the class entertained. The textbook is the only one I have ever ENJOYED reading and studying from, and it even had me laughing.
Professor Negy at first comes off to be a great professor, he is re-writing the textbook, so all of the material came from his lectures and some videos. The videos cannot always be found online, so make sure you go to class those days. He invites comments, but is a smarmy devils advocate and I have seen him shut down a few students unjustly.
Taking Prof Negy for cross cultural was great! Yes, most people can't stand him because of his opinions, but put all of that aside. He is a great teacher and you will surely learn a lot from him. Be prepared to discuss in class.
he is very straight to the point and let's you know what he expects. you do not have any homework or quizzes. your grade is based on 4 tests with some extra credit. first test I failed, the second one I got a 100. DO THE READING IT IS SO IMPORTANT, or else you will not get good grades. overall a cool guy and you will get an A if you read
I loved this class, Professor Negy kept me interested and focused. There is a lot of reading and the tests are moderately hard, but I would definitely recommend taking his class. (the textbook for class was great as well).
Amazing professor! Loved his lectures. Exams will be easy as long as you go to lectures and study the textbook (written by Dr. Negy himself). I wish I could take him for other classes too
Took him for sex behavior and gen psych. As a person, entertaining. As a prof, not so much. Exams were rather difficult and filled with many trick questions. Only four exams so you can't afford to screw around outside class. He knows his stuff but there were many times where he couldn't answer student questions. Not very respectful but still decent
TRULY one of a kind professor.. not in a positive way! If you're a strong headed, "stand up for what you believe in" kind of person & have beliefs &-or opinions do NOT take this dude as your professor. If you like getting treated like you dont matter & talked down to then this is the professor for you! Teaches based on his opinion rather than PSY
The people who gave him bad reviews are all sensitive. Negy is opinionated but super funny. Solid prof, study his textbook and you'll pass with flying colors. Paying attention to lectures will also help you. Go to every class, he sometimes shows videos that you'll need to watch. He'll ask questions about them on the tests.
He has strong beliefs that will pretty much criticize everyone else, so be wary when choosing him.
How you feel about Negy will vary person to person. At times, what he was very interesting and insightful, but I feel he goes off topic on tangents and isn't very professional in how he words things sometimes. In correspondences, he's come off as very rude to me, but generally I don't care. The class is easy, but it might not be what you expect.
If you're sensitive, don't take his class.
Includes a "how to study" in his book, if you follow it you will at least pass if not an A. He asks specific questions about lectures on tests. The book is important. He likes to share his sometimes controversial personal views. That said he promotes critical thinking, he explains course concepts well, and no one can say he isn't open and honest.
He does have very strong opinions, and he does not hesitate in sharing them. If you can put opinions aside however, he is a good professor. His test questions are straight from his textbook, and occasionally he will show a video in class and ask questions from those too. Just do the reading and show up you should pass no problem.
Really funny guy, definitely one of the easier courses I've taken so far. Course is based only on exams and the online lab segment, so make sure to do well on your tests.
Probably my favorite professor that I've had at UCF thus far. Everyone complains about his opinions but contrary to popular belief he's actually quite right in them. He lays everything out for you, his class is simple and straight forward. Do your work and read the book and you will do well while actually learning. (he knows what hes talking about)
Dr. Negy is a very knowledgeable person with a lot of outside experience. He is definitely a one of a kind professor I will never forget. I learned a lot from his class. Go in with an open mind, and this class will really make you think. His class is based off of 5 exams; read his book and review lecture notes, and you'll be fine.
Very opinionated, but it makes class interesting, wrote the textbook. Only grade is exams & SONA points. 4 exams, the final exam is not cumulative, but there is another final exam for entire course which is taken online (small percentage is put into the grade book). Easy to pass but also easy to fail if you don't pay attention to his lectures.
Interesting class material. Lectures are pretty enjoyable & funny. He has no boundaries which is nice. 4 exams are only grades besides 3pt extra credit (DO IT) Go to lectures because he tests mostly from them & a little from book. Only problem is that he is very strongly opinionated and is very rude to students when they disagree or ask questions.
He's an okay professor. You're really going to have to study for his exams. You have to know the content backward and forward for a good grade in this class. He is a complete jerk to anyone who answers the questions he asks in class so I would suggest keeping your mouth shut. Very condescending. not confident Christian: probably don't take this
Negy is a unique professor who knows his stuff but doesn't know how to test on it. Alot of his tests were based on things that were barely skimmed in class. Very opinionated and funny i enjoyed him as a person but not him as a teacher. Be prepared for this class as there are only 3 grades besides the exam.
A very funny professor who teaches in a way that will keep your attention. Tests: mostly lecture based, some from book. He goes through the lectures quickly so pay attention. 3 tests worth 20 pts and 1 worth 25. The online cumulative final is worth 5 pts. He talks about sexuality and is anti religion. Prepare for it if you don't like hearing it.
He's chill I guess
If you want to pass this class, you MUST go to lectures. There are a lot of videos that are referenced on the tests that you won't know unless you show up. The textbook is easy to read, and the lecture notes are easy. Overall, funny guy and easy A!
Professor Negy really knows what he is talking about and is extremely intelligent. Attendance isn't mandatory but a lot of the tests notes come from lecture. If you put in a little bit of studying before each test and attend lectures you will pass. He is a professor I won't forget. I would take him a million times again.
really easy A, but you must go to class bc he shows a lot of videos and doesn't post the powerpoints online. He is very blunt in the way he expresses his views (on religion, race, etc), and it may come off as rude, but he is actually a great prof and is just trying to broaden our perspectives. I learned a lot of great, useful things in this class.
This class is semi difficult, if your not a good test taker I do NOT recommend taking this class because all your grade is based on is 3 tests and the final. The class is interesting I think he is a bad teacher and doesnt care about whether students pass or fail
This class was something else haha. In the beginning, I didn't like him because of his constant comments about religion. He's very blunt, but over time I grew to really like him. TEXTBOOK IS SEMI-NECESSARY. His test mistakes and SONA extra credit saved my grade. Go to class! Class lectures and videos included in tests (only 3) .
If youre worried about getting your feelings hurt dont take his class. If you could care less hes a solid teacher, definitely class attendance is mandatory as a lot of his test material comes from his lectures. He gives one extra credit opportunity, make sure you do this! Hes infatuated with cross cultural so pay attention to that when studying
If you are easily offended don't take him, he is anti-religon. There are 3 test based on the lectures, book, and videos. You have to KNOW the content to get a good grade. He puts very specific things on the test. Read the text book and go to lectures. Take very good notes. He's very funny, I enjoyed the class. No homework, so STUDY
Grades were based on 3 tests each 20 questions, the final was 25 question, and you had a 50 question online department final (can look up the answers) worth 5 points, and SONA/write-ups worth 10 points. Each test was based on 3-4 chapters, and lectures. Attendance isn't mandatory, but it is your responsibility to get notes. Sometimes watch videos
Very smart professor; very hard class. I'm usually an all A student and struggled to barely make a C in this class. Grade is determined by 3 tests (20 q.'s), a final (25 q.'s), SONA research, and departmental final. You must know your material well enough to apply it in order to pass this class, so definitely prepare in advance and take it serious
Definitely recommend! There aren't many grades throughout the semester but as long as you show up to each lecture, pay attention, take notes and study the textbook, then you're guaranteed an A! Loved the manner in which he taught, extremely funny professor!
I am so glad I got to take this class! He is funny and makes his lectures as interesting as possible. You can never get bored. But you got to read A LOT for the class to pass as the tests are usually around 20 questions, 5 points each. His lectures do contain information not present in textbooks and vice versa. And be ready to keep an open mind.
Probably the best professor I've had at UCF. Some love him, some hate him.. but he's a real gem honestly. Hilarious and gives interesting lectures. You probably won't care for him if you're religious or an idiot. But he's great. Take any class with him. He made me fall in love with psychology.
He's very sarcastic and witty which makes his long lectures enjoyable. His tests aren't hard as long as you read the textbook and watch the in-class videos he prepares. He's a bit intimidating but it goes to show that he KNOWS what he is talking about
his class is 4 tests & study participations (worth 10) if youre not a good test taker, do NOT take! theres easier teachers out there. his tests are meant to confuse you, & he often makes mistakes on them. he plays videos during class that are later on the tests, so attendance is important!!
The class itself is not hard. I am big on respect. You don't have to agree but just because you don't agree/ believe something doesn't make it silly or. He almost has an air of "I'm above you, I'm so cultured/ knowledgeable" it's annoying. Sometimes he's funny, to me he's kind of dull. You can be funny, witty, sarcastic without being dismissive
Negy is the most hilarious professor at UCF, does not care if he offends you at all. Expresses all of his opinions. Wrote his own book, memorize it & you'll do good (not hard its like a summary of a normal book, just important info). MC exams in class, got an A on all of them. Very entertaining lectures, I took a 3 hr night class, usually out early
His lectures are worth waiting for. i loved going to his classes bcus they were so much fun. Did i have to study ? yes absolutely. But as long as u understand and u dont just memorize youll be fine!
I am a solid B student and this class was an absolute joke. His lectures are disorganized and does not give you access to his notes online. There are 5 tests which have no relation to his textbook (he is the author) and it was expensive. He goes through the material quickly so nothing even abides to his syllabus. I wish I took this class online.
Pro. Negy is a great lecturer! I've taken him twice and he was great in both classes. No homework, but read two books + his book for exams. Only had 5, with the last being the final exam. Each had only 20 questions, in-class. Did have extra credit. Did send articles for us to read about a topic covered in class too.
I love professor Negy!!! Great teacher. Very smart knows what hes talking about and super funny! I have him for three hours Tuesday nights and he made sure the class was not bored. Super interesting. I would have gotten an A but somehow messed up one of my tests. If you read his book and go to class you will have no problems. Wish I could go again
You're only graded on a couple quizzes, and they are a bit difficult. Don't expect to get an A if you don't study and take good notes. Doesn't post any lectures online, so attendance is a necessity and write down almost everything he says, even if you don't think it's important. I've had him for two classes now and he's a very interesting prof.
In Negy's class, you gotta pay really close attention to minute details because that is usually what he tests for. He had us read two books, I skimmed through both and was fine. His textbook did not appear on the exams at all. Just focus on the little details, write the extra credit paper, and you'll be fine.
This course is not that hard, but with this professor it is! I failed two exams because there was no book for this course! He doesn't share his notes or videos on Webcourses! I really didn't know from where and how to study for the exams.. He always thinks he's right and doesn't like to be wrong about anything
look, this professor is a NIGHTMARE. No joke, he's absolutely terrible. Awful lectures that are just all over the place and no study materials given during the week. It's terrible. Don't take classes from this professor if you can help it.
Really cool guy but can be really sassy and snappy. Not much on the slides and there's no book, so you'll be taking notes the whole time. 3 exams and 1 extra credit paper. Not that hard but some exam questions are things he has never specified. No study guides, it's a ton to study for such short tests, some very specific questions. Gotta study
By the end of the semester, I could not tolerate his behavior. He only thinks himself. Some of his information was interesting and I did learn; however, he was biased on cultures and religions from his own experiences. So, needless to say, that is what you are tested on. When you are taking his test: think like him, not yourself
You have to pay attention to little details that are in lectures or videos. They will pop up on the test and you'll be confused, as some of his test questions are completely irrelevant to the course material and he'll just throw them in there to see if you're paying close attention.
Tests are crazy specific and hard. Pay attention to the videos in class!!! He tests you based on if you showed up to class or not and payed attention.. barely anything tested about actually psychology..
I took his class weekly 6pm 3 hour class. Usually we were let out early, but honestly it didnt matter because time went by really fast in his class due to how fun it was. Completely engaging teacher who isnt afraid to voice his opinion. You have to take a lot of notes to pass bc all of his exams are based off of anything mentioned in-class.
Great professor. This is not a class that you can skip, all of the test are lecture based. I recommend that you take notes during the class and that you create a group me so someone can send you notes on details that you might missed.
Negy is a true gem, one of those professors you won't soon forget. He has a passion for his field and it shows, every topic was made interesting and while the lectures were long (with every word being fair game for the test), I was never bored in this class. If you don't have an open-mind & sense of humor, this isn't the professor for you.
He is very sassy, but that makes lectures go by fast. Material is interesting and he tells a lot of funny stories. Make sure you write down everything he says because that is what tests are based on (doesn't post pwp slides and no textbook). 4 exams, no final. Take good notes and exams will be easy. Easy extra credit assignment- do it!
I didn't really like this class because of his tests. They're mostly questions regarding minor details that if you miss when taking notes, you'll get a bad grade. I remember one was regarding what food a person mentioned they wanted during a video when discussing a psychological phenomenon. You don't basically create a transcript, you will do badly
*SEXUAL BEHAVIORS* literally the best class to take, graded on four tests only and an extra credit paper was given. No textbook, everything is lecture based and the powerpoints are not online. sassy and super funny. Dr Negy if u see this i love u and ur class. i dropped out bc im broke but i would take more of ur classes if i hadnt.
Professor Negy has really entertaining lectures, however he is probably the most disorganized professor I've ever had. All his grades are 20-question exams and one 3 credit extra credit paper (which I recommend doing). So much info needed for such tiny exams, and he doesn't provide any guide to know what the exams focus on. Wouldn't take him again.
I had Professor Negy for Cross cultural and sexual behavior and let me tell you one thing.... DO NOT MISS HIS CLASS. In his lectures, he's very detailed and puts those very detailed notes on his exams; which are pretty crafty and a bit confusing. Overall, I embraced his "outspokenness" and his intellect. Definitely makes you think outside the box..
Dr. Negy is knowledgable, but very arrogant. Dont even try to argue with him in class, he will find a way to make you look stupid. Make sure to think like him for the exams and pay close attention to the lectures, or even record them.
It was my perception that this professor cared more about his gender-focused agenda than about teaching psychology. Like others here said, the only way to pass his tests is by demonstrating that you got the message and that you are now thinking like him. If you take his class, keep your critical thinking skills sharp and don' let him indoctrinate u
The material for this class is NOT difficult. Attend all his classes because anything and everything can be fair game on his tests. 5 tests (20 quest), 1 extra credit paper. Only a little room for errors. Does not share his Power points online, take photos of them with your phone and RECORD his lectures !!!! Use group chat to exchange notes
There are only 5 tests and one 3pt xtra cred paper - so theres little room for error. But if you go to class, take good notes, or even record the lectures you should be fine! He may come off as harsh but hes the realest, funniest professor Ive ever taken and is very intelligent.
very good professor!he is arrogant but funny and very clever professor. his test arent hard just have to pay close attention to his lecture and do his assignment. pretty easy
Really good experience taking this class, even though he is a tough grader his lectures are really good.
Hes the worst professor Ive ever had. He expects you to know everything even before learning it. And if you dont think like him on the tests then youll fail. Hes mean and selfish. Dont take his class. Ever.
He doesnt care about any of his students so go ahead and take him if you want to fail. Hes very selfish and self centered. And if you dont think the way he does hell mess with you for it and youll fail all of his tests
I thought it would be a great idea to take this class. I was terribly mistaken. His tests cover maybe half of what he actually talks about in class. The other half is stuff he never talked about, isn't in the readings, or in any videos he shows. His style of teaching shouldn't really be called teaching. It's more like he just praises himself
It's not even halfway through the semester and I can't stand the way he acts. He only cares about himself. Some of his information is interesting and I am learning a little bit, but he's VERY biased on cultures and religions from his own experiences. When you are taking his test, you MUST think like him, not yourself.
What makes me hate this class is how there is so much material to study, with only 20 questions tested. There is no room for error. The test questions are not clear, and in order to pass, you HAVE TO THINK LIKE HIM. Every answer I put, is the way "he thinks".
Do Not takke him!!! Trust me unless you are not an A student and do not care about grades. ambiguous abstract subjective. poorly worded Questions that are not on your knowledge or what you've learned or even a good educated guess. You can be highly intelligent and not pass the test because it's not based on intelligence or knowledge or classwork
So many people don't like him only because they are easily offended. I think he is a great teacher and he actually speaks the truth about stuff. He doesn't leave anything out and he is overall a great professor. Yes, he can be tough, especially with exams. But he is funny and knowledgable and I will definitely take other classes with him.
Dr. Negy is a very interesting character. Although I may have disagreed with many of his views, the course was eye-opening. There are only 4/5 tests and one extra credit assignment. If you attend the lectures and pay attention, it shouldn't be too difficult to pass. He's incredibly intelligent and is hilarious!
only had this class one day a week and it was 2 1/2 hours so it was really lecture heavy. i barley studied for the first test and failed miserably, but studied a ton for the second and got almost a high A so honestly just show up to class and study and you should be fine. only four grades for the whole course 3 tests and one essay.
Do you like your religion? Well, he's going to spend all class period roasting it and you too, probably. He's an atheist and will mention it every chance he gets. Lectures are long and tests are only 20 questions, so good luck figuring out what to study. I was also required to read the book HE wrote and write a paper on it. Real winner, this one.
You need to go to class. the tests are on things that he says mentions in class and he doesn't post the Powerpoint. Needless to say, I actually enjoyed going to his class. He's hilarious and really wants his students to learn. He's a bit insensitive but that's not necessarily a bad thing. There is one extra credit essay about anything.
Most stressful class I've ever taken, and not because of the material. Lectures are long packed full of information and tests are only 20 questions, so it's very difficult figuring out what to study. We were also required to read a book he wrote for a grade and he didnt even end up reading them and wont until over the break. Get ready stress!
Here is my thing about Negy. He thinks he is untouchable and he shows that in his lectures. If you do not go to class, you seriously will not get any of the lecture because he does not use a textbook for this course. I barley passed with a C and yes he can be entertaining but he seriously just pissed me off half the semester. Defiantly avoid.
This professor is very self-centered, doesn't care about students' opinion, never uses the book, has guess speakers come in with more recent information on the topic and he are argues with them saying he is correct eventhough the guess speakers are professionals in their field of study. Do not take him, he is not helpful in any way, only criticizes
Very funny lecturer, although maybe a tad aggressive and sarcastic for some people. I personally enjoyed them. The tests are VERY specific. You need to record the lectures and take good notes. He won't post any of his. If you study the material, you'll be fine, but study it GOOD. Remember exactly what he says on everything. It's not an easy class.
I am not easily offended, this professor is however extremely condescending, dismissive and lacks common interpersonal skills. He sounds annoyed when a student asks a question and responded "I don't tolerate silliness" more than once to students asking valid questions. Avoid this professor, he will offend your sensibilities!
This class was an absolute waste of my time and money I regret not fully reading the reviews before signing up for this class, Negy is a pos who requires no textbook for class yet teaches directly from powerpoints that he wont even post online. Please dont waste your money on this horrible class.
Don't take this class you will regret it. He deliberately makes it hard to get an A in his class. Exams are only 20 questions and a lot of the questions are so very specific and completely irrelevant to something that has nothing to do with the overall material. He gets annoyed and disregards opinions that go against what he believes. Awful!!
I know a lot of people have a lot of negatives to say about Professor Negy. His personality is very blunt and upfront. He holds back on nothing. That being said, if you can accept that he isn't always politically correct, you may find the class enjoyable. I thought the class was very interesting and engaging, even if I didnt always agree with him.
Negy is super fun. Unfortunately, his exams are all lecture based. There are no assignments just exams. Good amount of extra credit opportunities that are easy easy (are all surveys for people's studies). Exams are all 30 questions &worded a bit weird. I recommend studying and attending lectures. TAKE NOTES! Study guides are provided
Prof. Negy was fantastic. His lectures were easy to follow. He was very fair minded and insightful. His class was very fact based and not based on emotions. In this volatile time we live in his attitude toward the course material was greatly appreciated.
I took him in summer A 2020 and It was an online class. It was an easy class because all we had is 4 quizzes and an optional final exam, you had a choice to write a summary or participate in UCF SONA surveys and you should collect points. The professor's text is his own book which you have to read properly in order to get A.
I was nervous taking this class after everything I had seen about him on twitter. I genuinely believe that he's able to separate his personal opinions from how he teaches material. I never once felt like he was pushing some sort of agenda. The class had 3 tests. Take notes of everything on the PowerPoints and just study that. Gave extra credit.
BEST PROFESSOR EVER! He provides amazing eye opening lectures and the course is very simple. It relies on 5 tests and a really simple extra credit quiz. He clearly tells you what is needed to pass the exams and provides all the material you need. I'm ending the course with a 100%.
four tests and one extra credit
Prof Negy's class was awesome as this is what the college experience should be. He offered a class that ALLOWED & encouraged differences of opinions, and then a discussion on those opinions. His class stimulated free thinking and debate, and students weren't allowed to be bullied.
He make student Think and it hard word sometimes, but you grown and learn. Not the Usual Professors that make the minimum effort.
Awesome! Such a smart man! Got so much out of his knowledge and insight.
Students need to be aware that this professor was fired from UCF for violating the UCF code of ethics. He was only re-hired on a technicality. Students have complained that he ignored them when they brought up claims of sexual harassment against his TA, he has claimed that Black privilege is real, and he creates a hostile learning environment.
3 tests and 1 paper throughout the WHOLE semester. Super unorganized, as there aren't even modules set up, just a whole jumble in the files section in no specific order. Listen to the long audio with the PowerPoints as that's the only way you will pass the tests. The only reason he curved the first test is because so many people complained about it
if you are a minority don't take this professor.
Negy is a very opinionated professor, and I frankly found some of his "opinions" offensive- especially when he is teaching about other cultures. He was also aggressive at times, and it caused apprehension from students when it came to participating and asking questions. Your grade is based on 5 exams: fail one and you're screwed.
I would never again. It was so bad only does tests. Nothing to bring up grade. Most difficult class ever. He has strong opinions and very difficult tests.
Horrible, only put PowerPoint in announcements, I couldn't find anything without digging through the whole page. He only gives 38 minutes on 30-question tests, you can only answer one question at a time and you cannot go back to reanswer questions.
If you want to actually learn about the world take this class!!! PLEASE do not base your decision off people who are obviously upset about learning the truth behind so many things. I would recommend this course to everyone!! Take notes on lectures, watch the films, and you'll do great on the tests. They are 20 questions with 28 minutes to do.
I found it concerning that Professor Negy made generalizations about entire religions and cultures in class. As someone who is not particular religious, I felt uncomfortable when he focused on 3 main religions. It made me feel like the beliefs and background of others were not value in the classroom.
I regret taking the Cross-Cultural class with Professor Negy. His impression when it comes to opinions is so off, I could easily tell he's a racist and doesn't consider being open-minded to hearing his students' views on such topics, only his own. He even handed out students N-word passes one day. I am not kidding around, DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS!!!
Honest and brave. I hope he wins his lawsuit.
Entire course was graded on 4 tests. Almost every test consisted of 4/5 chapters filled with hundreds of vocab words + multiple hour long videos and only consist of 30 questions, sometimes repeated questions. You have to be able to recite the book in order to pass. He does give extra points every once and a while which boosts your grade.
Beware anyone who hypes up this man. The Jordan Peterson of UCF. Mocks the notion of emotions overriding rational thought, and yet his entire course was riddled with angry little digs at UCF and woke academia in general. Felt like I was listening to a reactionary podcast, not taking a class about Psychology. Forgettable, if not for his controversy
The textbook written by this professor is heavily influenced by his own biases, and any statistical data cited in the book is outdated by at least five years. Negy lacks proficiency in computer skills. To excel in this class, it's advisable to take screenshots of all your submissions.
Has some basis for expanding viewpoints based on new data, but all of it is heavily muddied by his own personal views. Clear contradictions in class, and passive-aggressive digs at things he finds "ridiculous" in other races, religions and backgrounds. Clearly can't stand working at UCF (probably because he was fired once). Bit of a shame.
Graded by 3 tests and 1 research summary. Chapter outlines were easy to follow, but I felt that his test reviews wasn't like the actual test. Tests may also include small details from the outlines. Outlines were also his summary of the chapter. Was interested in the course, but I felt like I didn't learn anything. TA may be helpful, but never went.
Grade literally consists of only four equal weight exams (including final). Exams cover a few things in the lectures but is mostly based on his book (that he wrote and is honestly pretty interesting). It's a lot of heavy reading, but can be knocked out the day before exam. His lectures are super uninteresting and not useful, most info is on book.
He won't argue in good faith or make nuanced arguments for most of the content. He covers no psychology and refuses to even entertain discussions about nature vs. nurture. There are five tests, one 500-page book, and an extra credit opportunity, so if you know how to play his game, the actual class is really easy, but it's not worth it.
I took personality theory over summer A and it was fun! There is a textbook, but Negy says it's optional and makes his tests focused on the materials covered in his lectures. There is a lot of reading, but it's really interesting stuff and there are fun personality surveys to fill out with each section. Only 4 assignments the entire semester
This class had its challenges, but staying engaged and putting in the work can pay off. The professor has strong opinions, so you need to be ready to think critically and form your own views.
Awesome class
The professor has strong opinions, so be prepared to engage with his views. While challenging, the class is worthwhile if you use study tools like unstuckstudy ai to supplement the material. Attendance is a must.
The grade for this class consists only of 4 tests which each one are based on videos showed in class and 4-5 chapters from his textbook, the test have 30 questions and when they are based from the videos they are very specific things that you would most likely not remember. If you fail one of them you are cooked, he does not drop the lowest grade.
I took it during the summer. He created a shorter textbook for psych so you don't have to read too much. Lectures are clear just extremely long. No homework was given, only 4 exams worth 25%. However try not to miss his classes at all. He was pretty apathetic after I mentioned the sudden death from family where I provided much proof to back it up.
Pre-med student with a 4.0 GPA. I've taken difficult classes and have never felt that a class was impossible to succeed in without hard work... until now. Only 3 exams, 1 paper, each 25% of your grade. Study guide for the first exam contained about 60% of what was on the actual test. Low average, refused to curve, no extra credit. I withdrew.
Do not recommend if you want to learn. Has clear ego issues that show through (put a question on a test abt why his research didn't get published, according to him). Struggles to answer questions about the material beyond what it says on the slide. Refuses to post notes out of fear nobody will attend, so if you miss something in lecture you're SIL.
Overtly sexual, even beyond the most sexual course material (Freud). Wastes lectures to talk aimlessly about sociopolitical matters. For example, he once used Obama's presidency to deny systemic racism. Makes students teach half his material through presentations, which he often interrupts. Graded heavily by tests with wildly ambiguous questions.
Dr. Negy is not for the faint of heart. However, I never once felt offended, although I didn't agree with most of his views. I respect him as a professor & I found his lectures interesting. His standing with UCF is irrelevant and calling him a racist is nonsense. If you are reasonable, not overly sensitive, & just pay attention, it's an easy A.
I understand where the reviews come from regarding his way of being. But I would NOT recommend this course because you're graded on 3 tests, 1 paper, and an optional extra credit paper. Lectures are not mandatory, but scoring highly on tests is pretty impossible if you are not there to obtain information. Difficult A unless you study for hours.
Genuinely awful experience. If you pay attention during lectures, the class is a breeze but he will test you on his personal anecdotes. He also uses the class as a medium to feed his personal views (racism) to students because he can't be fired. Easy class, awful teaching style, unpleasant experience, easy a but would not recommend.
Dr. Negy will give information in class that is straight up incorrect and will argue in bad faith if called out on it. He has very clear bias against certain groups and will even make uncomfortable sexual jokes about them. He uses his legally protected employment status to push his own views and spread misinformation about minority groups.
Absolutely horrible professor! Lectures are factually incorrect and he argues with students despite inviting them to "challenge his ideas", outwardly hateful, and a generally poor lecturer. He refuses to post the notes online, but they don't contain enough information to pass the 5 tests (which are the only assignments in the course) anyway. AVOID.
Dr. Negy is tough, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't take him. Students often talk about how his lectures are “factually incorrect” when in reality he posts every source he's cited on canvas, aside from those based on personal experience. I've taken his classes twice, A's in both. Just show up to class and truly listen. Create your own opinions.
Easily the best black crime statistics and anthropology class I've ever taken
Professor Negy is hilarious if you have an interest in out-of-pocket statements and a minimal filter. Assignments were easy; there were only four tests throughout the semester, but they were easy as well. Would absolutely recommend him if you don't take offense easily.
For the VERY LITTLE this professor truly knows about psychology, he makes up for it in brainless rambles about god knows what. I don't see the sensibility in giving this phreak anything higher than a 0.0, but i can't
