Mr. Newton is nice if you come to him personally for help. I had trouble and he tutored me.
This professor is boring and unhelpful makes the class difficult STRONGLY ADVISE NOT TAKING HIM for any class!!! I dropped out half way through the semester. If you want an easy and good econ prof take Dr. T.C. Nuwal is A or B and very funny.
I took his class at Elsik High school as a dual credit class, and I absolutely hate this guy, I got a 69 in his class, all he had to do was give my counselor an OK and I'd pass, he makes the stupidest and corniest jokes " The government LOVES YOU and feels your pain" If you hate yourself, take him!
This guy is truly an A@#hole, I took his class already having a 4.0 GPA and he was the reason I dropped a class for the first time ever. He treats his students like tiny children and he's very rude. He doesn't like his job and it shows. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS.
Mr.Newton is an awsome professor, you just have to show you are as dedicated as he expects students to be. He will help you with any trouble you have as long as you show interest in improvement. His lectures are straight forward. Don't take his class if you're stuck with high school mentality.

He went off on a student for putting a peppermint in her mouth...on our first quiz only maybe 5 people passed....although i made a B on it, I don't understand his grading methods....I thought it was just me, now I see that I'm not the only one who feels this way....DO NOT TAKE HIM!!

Mr. Newton's class is below average. He is a good lecuturer but if you need help you are in trouble. He teaches something and thinks that everyone will catch on automatically. The only way you can get a A in his class is get an A on the fist two test those are the easiest. And hope he does not "lose" one of your test. Good luck.
Took him during high school (dual credit) & I'm so glad. His lectures are fast paced and you better be a fast writer or you'll get lost. He's strict (REALLY) & down to the point. If you're slow, well, good luck. The textbook'll be your bible & only it can save you. He lets you look @ past tests (look @ them if you want a good grade). G'luck!

Professor Newton is an excellent lecturer. He knows economics very well. If you have no knowledge of economics I suggest that you take his Survey of Economics(1301) course before taking Micro or Macro.You will get a thorough overview of Micro and Macro in the Survey course;thereby,enabling you to succeed in 2301 and 2302.
Mr. Newton is an excellent teacher. I was overwhelmed at first when reading the past comments, but I took his course anyway. I'm very glad I did though, because he really knows his stuff and puts them in the most simplest ways for the students to understand. His humor is a bit dry, but I give him credit for at least attempting to entertain. (cont).

I have to agree with the majority of posts here. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!! I am glad to see that I am not the only one that feels this way about this man. I only wish I would have new about this website proir to enrollment. If you are looking for a good ECON instructor and don't mind Saturday classes I suggest you try Ainsworth Barnes.

A not OK teacher. You need to stay in class the whole time, write down everything, and read everything prior to class. Even though the tests are easy, the quizzes are tricky. Sometimes I could not get what he lectured, and his jokes usually meant nothing but wasted our time thus he sped up at the end of the course. Take him if you could study hard!
Mr. Newton...A VERY HARD professor! U have to pay attention in class and his notes are not enough! You have to go home and restudy the whole chapter if you want an A. There are 3 exams and 1 final. He will drop one of the exams that are the lowest. He gives out curve for every exam and final. I would encourage you to do the online homework and come to class. He takes attendance. It would definitely help your grade. I got a B. He's not rude but he's pretty blunt and sarcastic. I would take him again.

I would recommend doing online homework and coming to class everyday. It would make a big difference on your grade. He does gives curves. Also, I would suggest reading the chapters.
Yes, he is intimidating but I'm glad he tests you on EXACTLY what he lectures! He gives examples of every topic (knows everybody), the reviews are great and he gives extra credit assignments. He even gives curves sometimes. RUN if you don't like studying-he'll tell u that himself!

I must say Im surprised of the ratings for Mr.Newton. He is very cool and the class is easy. I didnt know anything about economics but i managed to get a B in 2301 & 2302 in the 8 week sessions.there are about 20 HW assignments, 3test that are online including a review and the final is in class with only 40 question.He drops a lot of grades
He's a little scary at first but he is very intersting. I was manage to passed his class, I think if I actually put effort I could of got a higher grade. I recommend him if your willing to do all hw and study. I took him for 8wks course: 2 test online, final in class and drop lowest grade. Must do hw or will not pass!

Very dry-humoured teacher. He seems strict, but does want his students to do well. Gives extra credit but there are a lot of online assignments. Gives makeup homework if needed and responses timely to emails
How to make an A in Mr. Newton's class: Read the textbook; come to every class and arrive on time; take notes; study for tests. Is any of that too much to ask?
He is intimidating at first, but really is a Great Professor! He likes to repeat himself and he tells the same stories over and over, and thinks they're funny. I enjoyed his humour and for some reason, I think he is a cute character!
Prof. Newton at first is an intimidating person. After awhile you get use to his humor and the way he teaches. Some days his lectures were hard to follow and understand. Other days it was as if everything finally came together. If you want an A, you'll have to work for it. Make sure you do well on Aplia and study for his tests!

Just had mr. newton. i do say that his lectures can make some people fall asleep but there was time to laugh. i appreciate him for trying to use his comparisons for economics with real life situations(NBA..)...dont be intimidated by him...even though he might scare you, he is well prepared to teach anyone, regardless of what happens, and WILL care.

Newton is a decent person outside class. As soon as it starts however, he becomes arrogant, negative, and sensitive. Whether you agree with him or not (after all, his lectures are based on HIS worldview), you will hate every minute you spend inside that room. His odious personality is a hindrance towards learning, but the class per se is easy.

I enjoyed his class. He was very straight forward, & sarcastic. First 3 tests online (1 dropped), final in class, but he gives a review & goes over in class. The final is almost identical to the review! There was HW weekly, but they were pretty easy. (online) Not sure why hes getting such bad reviews. He's got a weird sense of humor, but good guy!

All assignments through Applia. Course is not hard but requires reading and completing ALL assignments. One group project and 3 tests. Do what is required and complete by deadline, will not fail.
This class was not too difficult. Compete all the homework assignments and 3 tests, and 1 group project..no final and I passed! This course also is easy to understand Economics.

The professor is very opinionated. He will become loud and spastic when there are things he want you to know. His class is fairly easy. He knows his material and tries to give you life lessons. If you do not like sarcastic and opinionated professor then you should not take him. But he really do care for the students.

This man is the absolute worst professorperson I have ever met! I am an AB student and have worked my tail off to get to the amazing GPA I have. Any time I had a question about something, he would only email be back one word answers, sometimes not even that! I took his class online, needless to say I just got my first F in my entire life.
Prof Newton is absolutely great. He helps students A LOT and totally goes the extra mile if he feels like the student is interested. He is very easy to get in touch with as he answers emails promptly. I took this class over the winter mini-mester and it is A LOT OF WORK. Graded assignments due every single day, each day covering one full chapter.
I have always done well on my online classes, however this class was very difficult. I would not recommend if you have ADD like me. His online class had things due every day, not to mention how with each chapter it became more and more difficult. Do NOT take if you value your GPA.

i had a really hard time in his class, but he helped so much, i hated listening to his lectures because they were so long (he usually used the whole class time) he can be repetitive and annoying but he wants you to learn and to get a good grade, but you have to work for it. overall i think thats good.

Prof. newton was an amazing professor. Took him for ECON 2301 and 2302 Classes. Yes, you do have to work a lot (At least 2 chapters a week complete reading with a quiz for each online). If you dont read, you wont pass. The textbook is amazing and teaches you things in the simplest way. 3 Test and a final. Drops lowest test. Made an A In the class!

He gets off topic very very very easily, which is very annoying when you are trying to learn. He does not email back in a timely manner and when he does it is the day of the test or a week after you have asked the question. I have taught myself mostly from reading the book. I would not suggest him for a professor.
I did not learn from him in the classroom. I have good grades but it's because I read the book and learn it myself. Sometimes he just comments on the content of his powerpoint slides instead of explaining them, so it doesn't makes sense unless you already know what he is talking about. He gives extra credit and drops the lowest test.
Horrible, Do not take him! Entire semester was stressful, pay attention to his all over the place lectures if you can or he will threaten to fail you. Group project at the end of the semester, and you have to know the answer to a question that you don't know what he is going to ask, if you get the answer wrong, you fail the group project!
He's not entirely awful. He does know the material, and is pretty decent at explaining it. He does have some quirks though, and can be abrasive at times. He wants his students to succeed, though, and will generally work with you. Do try to participate in class and laugh at his jokes.
im taking his economics online class and hes by far one of the worst professors ive ever taken. the homeworks are so tedious and abrasive, plus he isnt there to help you with anything. basically have to learn and do everything on your own. do not take him.
I took his online course. For this particular class, you received a free copy of a book, that was free, and could not purchase it. There were several exercises, videos, and other assignments that was included in the grades, but was not factored in with your final grade. You will not be informed of how his grading system work until you fail.
He is really understanding as I had a transport issue and he really helped with it and didn't drop me. Mostly he doesn't even take attendance but just be on the safe side and talk to him so that he doesn't drop you. Not a tough grader. Gives a review for exam which is same as exam. Has grading issues so email if you know you got wrong grade by end.

Of all the professors I've had at HCC, Professor Newton has by far been the worst. The content of ECON2301 is fairly easy, and I am a 4.0 student, but he made it extremely confusing and difficult to understand. He seems very angry during most classes. I leave his class genuinely feeling second-hand anger and frustration. I would NOT recommend him.
Throughout his class, he made rude comments. At one point he got in a yelling match with someone who was asking a question he didnt particularly like. Would not recommend if you want to learn econ, but maybe if you want an easy A as his course setup is easy
Easy A if you do the work. Only calculated 4 grades (pre-test, averaged 3 test and final). However it was hard to sit through this class, he makes rude comments and talks about himself most of the time. Ask questions after class he'll explain it better privately. Understand the math for his quizzes/test!

Took him for hybrid class, his tests are lockdown server with camera. Might as well take online class because youll need to teach yourself anyways. Id recommend not taking him unless youre good at the subject. He only gives the review for final, it looks similar to the final and is in class.

I took his class online as a May Mini and it was heavier than usual but got an A because I kept up with work. I would take him again for sure.
I wasnt fond of the book required. Taking online classes youre pretty much teaching yourself. I took another Econ class and I understood it better than this one and it was an online class only as well.
I took him for spring 2021 and he is one of the easiest professors ive had. All his quizzes are on quizlet and if you cant find a question there its definitely in the textbook. You have a concept and a homework quiz every week and two tests. Its very easy if you are looking for a class to just get over with.
He was very easy, provided free online textbook and you needed it when doing homework which wasn't hard. I forgot to turn in an assignment by the due date and he changed the due date so I can turn it in. he did it before I could even email him. He will literally help you with you even asking
10+ questions of homework are due every 2 to 3 days, which are based on a chapter from the book. So you have to read a chapter every 2 days. The questions are always math heavy as well, so it wont be easy. However, that is all you do in this class other than answering more questions from watching videos.
Ive taken this class online anytime . I can say the book helps but at the same time it was boring. However, the class was very straight forward. Lecture videos were kinda boring but thats your best option if you dont have the book. My recommendation is if you doing online anytime this can be your class.

Professor Newton's lectures rarely met with what was graded on the exams, the online homework and practice exams covered mainly what would be on the tests. The exams were difficult enough and he spells out everything on the syllabus. Offers extra credit.
Very rude. No consideration. He does not care for his students. Untidy. He doesn't listen to his students. self-centered. He lectures based on his opinions and story not from the book. You are not allowed to ask questions; if you ask, he would say it's not part of his lecture.
This course has over 60 assingments, yet they barely affect your final grade. In other words doing all assingments on time doesn't guarantee you an A, only the exams do.
Class is very lecture heavy, lots of homework, and challenging exams.
The class setup is easy, with online homework and practice exams covering the test material. However, Professor Newton can be difficult - lectures don't always align with exams, and he has a tendency for rude remarks. Unstuckstudy helped me prepare along with the textbook.
Professor was great! Quizzes, test and group discussions, nothing out the norm. Took class during a mini session and would highly recommend.
