Very easy professor. make sure you read all the assignments, though. you'll get a quiz every time, it's not even a surprise. requires short papers. teaches well.

North is an exceptional man. I thought a poetry course at Pace would ruin my enjoyment of the subject, but I was wrong. He gives helpful feedback, constructive criticism and has an overall witty outlook on life.

Well, he is a great person , i enjoy his class. cracks a lot of jokes and is easy to understand.I am glad i got the privaledge of being in his english class. He gives second chances and has faith in his students. BY the time you leave, you;ll be an A writer.:)

whoever dissed North on this page must bet thinking of someone else. Prof north is by far the most interesting and dynamic prof at pace. and he IS a fair grader- you have to show him that you are trying, show up at his office hours, etc. take him for poetry, it's a great experience.

Take him for LIT!!! He is very sweet, understanding and interesting. He is insightful and intelligent. His lectures are very easy to understand. His exams are fair and he gives second chances. I highly recommend him!!!!!!!!!

Although there is no final or midterm and assignments are short take his advise and read through everything twice. Because he's so knowledgeable you won't mind his laid back teaching style, but watch out for his grading. Definitely take Professor North!

Great teacher, really helpful, a must take, no midterm or final, a research paper but pretty easy, quizzes on story's you've read the night before so make sure you just read them bc the questions are easy..take down the very few notes he gives you

Very easy professor, but very smart man. If you care, you'll actually take away something from his class other than a grade. One downside is that he speaks to the class as if it's filled with kindergardners (which might be deserving for a lot of the kids in my class). Only a handful of papers.

In reference to the previous comment,Professor North addresses the class in a rather mature manner.He gives detailed instructions for papers to make, our lives as students easier.I don't know of a person on earth who would prefer an instructor who overcomplicates the lectures. Highly recommend him.

Everyone loved him. Lectures will blow you away. Explained the novels thoroughly. Always let us out early. Great class to take.

Don't listen to the Whiners. This professor is awesome. Everything is straightfoward. You even get to rewrite your papers if you're not satisfied with it. NO FINAL OR MIDTERM. Take this professor. You won't regret it!

An absolutely wonderful professor. He's so full of knowledge about literature. We had an interesting course theme dealing with outsiders. There isn't a lot of writing. Just a short paper for midterm and final. Plus one reaction-type paper and 2 optional for Extra Credit. Papers require some time, but grading is fair. He's clear on what's expected.

Calling Prof. North pompous is ridiculous--if anything, he is one of the most approachable and down-to-earth prof's I've had here. To those who complained about a lack of clarity: did you approach him outside of class and ask him directly "what the hell he wants?" I'm guessing not, because in office hours he was very clear and helped me out a lot.

He's a nice guy and a good professor. Obviously enjoys poetry and will make sure he's understood if you ask him questions during office hourse. Very approachable. However be prepared to be a little annoyed simply because your poetry style and preference are a lot different from his.

He's not easy, you should know that from the start. But he is knowledgeable and encourages thoughtful discussion. If you're in school just for a piece of paper, don't take him. If you want to be challenged, then you should register for his English or Lit class.

Treats you based on how you approach him. If you act like a moron, he'll treat you like one; if you present yourself as interested and intelligent, he'll treat you likewise and take a personal interest in the development of your writing.

Prof. North is the best English teacher I have ever had, handsdown. He a cool, down to earth type of guy, any problems in class, just ask. He aint strict bout rules, and the longest paper he'll give will be only 2-3 pages long. I dont know why people be hating on him, he is a good English professor.

Professor North is absolutely amazing. I've never had a better english teacher in my life! He is extremely intelligent and wants to share that intelligence with the students. Once in a while he'll give a pop quiz or an in-class essay but if you've done the readings you'll get an A.

I read all the ratings prior to taking Professor North and was expecting hell... He is 1 of the best English professors Ive ever taken. He is extremely helpful outside of class, cares about his students; assigns good readings to keep his students interested. He helped me with 1 of my essays that had nothing to do with his class. He's great!

Very helpful professor but hard grader. His class has helped me improve my writing. Class conversations are informal but need to take notes b/c quizzes are given both on readings and class disc. Likes to joke around and does not give too much work but expects quality.

Professor North is awesome! He loves what he does and knows his stuff well. His class is based on informal lectures,class discussions, a few exams, and quizzes.Make sure you read the lit b/c he likes to throw pop quizzes. He is extremely helpful in terms of writing. He helped me to improve my writing/debate skills. He's also likes to joke around.

North is the best. Class was easy, but still learned a lot. He drops the lowest quiz and paper grade if you have perfect attendance. Class is mostly lecture and is not that bad if you're interested in the material. No hw except to read a short story usually. Great class! Take him!

He will turn you into a better writer, as well as give you interesting insight into literature. He's not a particularly easy grader, but he's not difficult either. Has a great sense of humor, and will show a few movies in class. The class discussions are usually fun

I love Prof. North! He is one of the most helpful, friendliest professors at Pace. He has pretty high expectations, but it is possible to impress him.

Great Guy really wants you to enjoy poetry. He wont force his opinion down your throat and lets the class flow.

I will never forget Professor North's classes: had him for ENG 120 and Lit 212D. Each time he challenged me. He makes clear on the first day of class that he has rigorous grading standards by saying "grades must be earned!" All he means is that he wants to read intelligent and interesting papers that were not thrown together last minute.

Dr. North is a wonderful professor. He is knowledgeable on poetry and passionate about what he teaches that his class is an absolute pleasure. The poetry is interesting to read and fun to learn. We had 2 exams, both essay form, which were difficult for some, I imagine, but if you read the poetry and think intelligently about it, you'll do fine.

Great professor--I look forward to taking him again. He's lecture heavy and requires a small and cheap poem anthology. In the first half of the semester, he didn't require any assignments but let us hand in poems for feedback only if we wanted. Would highly recommend

I enjoyed Prof. Norths class! His classes got a little boring because every day was just analyzing the poems we read for homework, but it was interesting to hear his opinions and ideas. Easy to do well, grade is based on one paper, some poems, and some poetry responses. Would recommend LIT211D!

Professor North is one of Paces best and most valuable Professors. I took both LIT 211D and ENG 312 with Professor North, and they were among my favorite classes. His talent for poetry is unmatched, and he gives valuable feedback for each and every poem you send him. He is incredibly caring, kind, and a wonderful guy. A must-take professor.

One of my favorite professors. Truly seems like a nice guy, really helpful. Took him for a painting/poetry LC and his only strict requirement was to turn in a collection of select poems at the end of the semester. He gave prompts every week, but theres a lot of freedom to write outside those prompts or to go out of order. Excited to take him again

I loved my class with Charles North. He is a great professor, but even more, he loves poetry, and that made the class all the more enjoyable. He gave wonderful feedback on work, and was incredibly fun to discuss poems with. If I could, I'd take this class again and again.

I always look forward to my poetry class with Charles North. The course load is very manageable- a midterm paper, and a few poems a week. You will leave his class with a greater appreciation for literature.

Love this guy. Enjoyed exploring poetry and the way he approached the course. He is very sweet and a valuable professor to have at Pace!
