Good professor overall. His voice is not clear though. He is helpful if you really need it. Class attendance is not required thats what I felt bcoz only 25-30 students were attending his class out of 40 students. On exam day everybody class appears so FULL. Explains easily if you have little bit of knowledge. Gives marks easily. Loves Snapple.
He has a fear of public speaking! Very nervous and assumes that everyone knows as much math as he does. He will go over as many questions as you have, and he better because it was so confusing. The book is terrible but he follows it religiously, so try to teach yourself math and you'll be fine on the tests.
Reads from the book and always enjoys his snapple 8 times after it is empty! He is a nice guy and will help you if you ask. He will not let anyone fail who shows some sort of drive to pass.
He is so nice and is will to answer any question you have. He is one of the better teacher that teaches the course. He sometimes expects you to know something about the material, but he will explain it if you ask. Overall I would say take him if you need to take the course, really helpful. Wished he was my teacher the first time I took the course.
He is a cutie. rly nice and shy but teaches well. DO THE HW! most of his quiz probs are from the hw. go to class. calc 2 is kind of hard and if you dont understand he is willing to help. he is extremely passionate about calc. take him
Extremely clear in explaining concepts. Highly recommended. Also clever and entertaining if you're listening closely.
Very nice and helpful whenever you need one-on-one tutoring. Quizzes questions are from hw questions. Takes his time explaining and do a lot of example to help. Loves drinking soda.
May seem hard at first, but he's a cool guy. He goes over theorems and explains it before doing examples. He will always answer questions, because he's so nice. :) His quizzes are from the hw problems and the tests aren't that hard if you do the hw and review. As long as you try, he will help.
Osborne is a really nice guy. He makes sure the material is clear, and goes over EVERY step (like algebraic ones that most professors would skip). He makes stupid jokes, and he's real. Really great teacher and will answer any question. He's a good teacher to take for Calc.
Great teacher! Definitely take him if you have the chance. I've help some of my friends in cal 2, comparing the two ways our teachers taught us, Dr. Osborne is definitely clearer and easier process on how to do the problem. Cal 2 is a difficult class, you will need to put time into it. There are weekly quizzes exactly like the examples from lesson
Great teacher. Goes over every step. Hilarious at times. Tries to help if someone is having trouble. I would take him again.
Great teacher. If you read the textbook then class is very understandable. Has a good sense of humor and his quizzes are pretty easy if you study. I would recommend taking him over any other calc teacher because he will prepare you for the midterm exams very well if you do well in the class. Remember its how you apply yourself, not just the teacher
I already took AP Calculus so it wasn't confusing at all. I enjoyed him as my professor. Kinda boring on some days because of his monotone voice. He tries to be funny, which at some points made the class laugh but he's a boring teacher. I fall asleep every once in a while. However, he goes over the weekly quizes and does review for midterms.
Awesome Teacher and I highly recommend! I'm in my last year as a Math major at Temple and I had to retake this course because of a poor overall experience the first time. But Dr. Osborne made this experience much more enjoyable with his clarity and math humored one liners. He's one of the few intelligent math professors that can actually teach.
Best calculus professor at TU! fair grader, approachable, helpful and funny! His teaching style makes the class easier, gives good notes, does many examples, really prepares you for the midterms and final, very helpful in his office hours.Go to class, read his notes,do the suggested homework problems & you should be fine. He is a must take for Calc 2!!
He is one of the best math teachers. His weekly quizzes are easy points. I would suggest doing the practice problems that he assigns besides web assign to better prepare for the mid terms and final exam. Overall he is a must take for any math class.
Awesome guy, definitely one of the best calculus teachers at temple. Very modest and quite humorous, He does many examples and always elaborates.
Don't buy the textbook. You don't use it. Webassign is a must. He spends an hour each class proving a theory, and only about half the class teaching you how to use it. He assigns homework for each chapter that takes about 3 hours to get through, and he gives the quiz on these chapters about a week before this homework is due.
Osborne is awesome! I just wanna hug him sometimes he really is a great teacher! Answers questions. Learns names. Very reasonable person. I love it when he says my name. Great teacher def recommended!
I thought that Professor Osborne was a good teacher but I struggled to pay attention in his class. His voice is very dry, obviously he can't help that, but I am very surprised that no one has mentioned this . My advice would be to come to class with water and a full stomach so that it easier to pay full attention as calculus is a difficult subject.
Quiz every week which can be tough, tests are decent. As for Professor Osborne, he does everything out, step by step, but pay attention, it can move pretty fast even with that. He's a very funny guy, and though his voice may take a class to get used to, you'll quickly learn that he is a kind individual who wants you to succeed.
Calc III was a tough class but Dr. Osborne's office hours will be your best friend. Go to office hours and ask questions. You will not regret it.
he taught very specifically.
Dr. Osborne is one of the nicest, most attentive professors out there. When it comes to math, there aren't many that care whether or not you can't truly grasp the concepts presented in the class lectures. Ozzy is one of the few exceptions and he's happy to take questions in and out of class.
Prof Osborne gives very clear lecture, and if you don't understand anything, he'll be there for help. He is extremely easy, even if you are late for class so many times, he won't complain as long as you can catch up with the class.
Currently taking Ozzy for the second time because he is by far my favorite math teacher I've ever had. His classes are "boring" and you take notes the entire time but he teaches you everything you need to know. If you pay attention in class, do the webassign HW and the assigned HW from the textbook you'll get an A
He's the most funny, helpful, and dedicated professor I've ever known. As an international student, his voice might be a burden for me at first, but after awhile I get used to it so I do not think it's a big problem. He cares about his students a lot and is willing to open extra office hours if you have schedule conflict. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
He has an odd voice but once you get over that he is a great teacher and he explains everything very clearly. I wish I could have him for every math class at temple. Textbook is helpful for some but I didn't use it.
Dr. Osborne is low-key so funny, and a really nice guy in general. He explains things really clearly and shows all the steps. Everyone usually feels confident on the tests if they've done the work.
Osborne is a fantastic teacher! He makes calculus simple for anyone to understand. I would love to have him again in the future. His class even helped me to narrow down my choice of a major. Definitely take his class!!
He is extremely clear and detail oriented. His jokes are also, while corny, really improve the lecture.
Osborne is a little monotonous and his lectures can get really boring sometimes, but he is a very nice man and a very good calc teacher. just show up, listen, take notes and you'll be fine. he answers all questions you may have and is a fair grader
Dr. Osborne is fantastic and he is hilarious. The class is lecture heavy and he spends a lot of time proving theorems. Besides that, the class is relatively easy. Do the book problems and the webassign before the weekly quiz and you'll be set. He is a very fair grader, too. He always looks to give partial credit on quizzes and exams.
Pros: explains complex concepts really well; maintains a healthy speed throughout semester, great review before exams, great feedback after; occasionally funny; plenty of practice work, easy online HW, moderately difficult tests Cons: need to copy down a lot; lectures are a bit boring; his delivery is a bit dry; rushes through chapters sometimes;
Osborne is such a talented professor. Very smart and can explain the material very thoroughly. The lectures are definitely note heavy and there is a lot of webassign homework, but he really helps you understand the concepts. His tests were very fair. He's actually super funny too. Totally recommend
I took 1941/1942 with Mr. Osborne. He is available by office hours & email. His lectures are very thorough and proceed in a logical manner. Once he presents a concept, he ALWAYS proves it. However, you don't have to know proofs for the exams. His jokes catch you off guard because of his deadpan delivery. Do the textbook problems to ensure success.
He is a very good Professor. I taught Honors Calculus 2 and I really liked him. He is very helpful and gives proper feedback. His jokes are subtle so you need to be attentive in class. There is one quiz every week, usually on Fridays and there are three questions on it. It is better that you go to class everyday so as not to miss out on any lecture
Osborne is a great professor, I highly recommend taking him if you have the opportunity. His lectures are well organized and easy to follow, not to mention he's funny. He provides detailed feedback on assignments and exams, and posts grades faster than any other professor I know. Not a bad thing to say about him!
Prof. Osborne is an incredible teacher and cares very much about the success of his students.
Dr. Osborne is an amazing teacher and really cares about his students. Very approachable during class or office hours for questions. He writes out step by step what he is doing and even the words he is saying one the board. Overall, amazing teacher and would definitely recommend to anyone. There is no reason he shouldn't have a 5.0 rating.
Dr. Osborne gives very thorough lectures, and will do just about anything to improve your understanding of the concept. His lecture style relies heavily on examples. Make sure that you keep up with the homework and go to lecture and you'll be alright.
I had Prof. Osborne for both Honors Calculus 1 and 2. He is a great professor who knows his material very well. To do well in the course, you need to work on the recommended homework problems continuously (not just around exam time). Going to office hours also helped create a personal connection for letters of recommendation later. Fair grader!
Extremely passionate on number theory. For 3003, homeworks and exams that's it-- no quizzes, if you know the review for exams and Chegg for homework, you're golden. For any other class, take him! He makes difficult concepts graspable and is hilarious. Accessible outside of class and fair grading/rewrite policies. Takes attendance randomly.
Best professor EVER. Made me love calculus. He is such a sweetheart, learns your name, unexpectedly hilarious, knows the material so well and does a great job teaching it. We had quizzes once a week and about 2 homeworks online per week, exams were fair, not hard to get an A if you study. He obviously cares about students, hands down the greatest
I took for honors calc 1 and 2. I was a decent math student in high school, but his lectures are amazing, he makes It clear the best way to study, and his personality allowed me to stay engaged. I got a high a in both classes and dont think that wouldve been the case with most other professors.
This is hands down the best professor I've ever had. Truly cares about his students, and willing to help.
Funny dude, and really knows his stuff. "Can anyone say anything intelligent" (monotone) but is the best professor I've ever had, and I pray I have him again at some point.
Super funny and really knowledgeable. There is lots of homework, but only a small part is graded (the rest is basically optional, but it does help for weekly quizzes). Exams are easy if you study the practice exam. He really does care about what hes teaching.
Charles is a complete gem of a man and professor. He learns everyone's name within the first week. I came to Temple with no calculus experience at all and managed to get an A in the course. His lectures are extremely comprehensive and well paced. Just please don't skip class, you'll regret it.
Dr. Osborne is pretty good. Very dry and boring lectures but you must attend them all to do well. Quizzes every Friday, 2 exams, and a final. All easy if you understand the content. Very helpful outside of class, pretty lenient grader, and not too much hw. Dr. Osbornes a good prof but he is very monotone and class always felt ridiculously long.
I love this man. He gave great feedback on homework when you did something incorrectly, was hilarious (dry humor so if that isn't your thing, be warned), and cared about his students. His exams were fairly similar to the reviews he provided. As long as you come to class where he gives information filled lectures, you will do well.
Calc 1 across the board is graded on two exams, quizzes, homework, and the final, and the two exams and final take up a large percentage of that, so do well on the exams. Osborne can be a little confusing in lecture because he is so in depth, but he's always ready to help in office hours if you don't understand something. Go to office hours!
Dr. Osborne is a great professor. I took Calculus 1 in high school and really struggled. After taking this course with Dr. Osborne, I have a solid understanding of calculus. Dr. Osborne is extremely organized and preps his students very well for all quizzes and tests. If you do your homework and reach out to him when confused, you will do very well
I had Osborne freshman year. He is very thorough in giving notes and providing examples. If you pay attention in class, take good notes, and make effort in understanding the homework problems, you should be able to do well in this class. Admittedly, his voice is a bit boring but he tells a lot of sarcastic funny jokes. I really enjoyed having him.
Simply just an amazing professor. Switching to online did not phase him in the slightest. His lectures are so filled with concise information that your hands will not be able to keep up while taking notes. And it isn't because he goes too fast, it's because everything written is exact and important. His personality fits a proof class. Take him!
I do not usually post professor reviews, but Osborne is amazing. The move to online classes was a genuine risk, and this guy excelled in communicating with his students. I learned a lot about proof-styling and the essentials of number theory - a pretty fascinating subject already - and he is and always has been extremely accessible and fair.
the best professor ever! I love his jokes delivered in his usual monotone. Very caring professor. Teaches really well! this is a coordinated course so there's not much he can do. but he's a real gem when it comes to teaching and caring for his students:)
Hands down the best professor I have had at Temple. This man is amazing. He teaches really well, he entertains his students and just makes everyone look forward to that class. I wish I could've had him for all my math courses because he is truly the best math professor at the university.
Charles Osborne is one of the best teachers I have ever had. He explains each topic clearly during his lectures and goes through multiple examples to ensure that you understand the material. The course itself wasn't an easy A, but he was an excellent resource in clarifying the harder material. He is also very accessible outside of class.
Most caring professor I know!! Always available to help struggling students
Mr. Osborne is so nice and explains questions with patience. He cares about students and helps us solve the problem. I absolutely would like to take his course again if I could, but he doesn't teach cal2 this semester.
Professor Osborne was definitely one of my favorite teachers this semester. Everything he taught, he taught very well and thoroughly. His lectures are extremely helpful and he is always there to answer any and all questions, not matter how dumb you think they may be. 11/10 recommend Professor Osborne!
The best professor!!!! He is very helpful and generous.
Dr. Osborne was a great Calc I professor. He has thorough online lectures, so it is worth going to class. The best way to succeed in this class is to do the homework and ask questions about it, which he allows you to do at the beginning of class. These homework questions are very similar to the quizzes. For exams, make sure you do the exam reviews!
Dr. Osborne really accommodates you. He's the type that will stop his lecture for your question. Beware: The first two exams are WAY easier than the third exam and the final. I had an A until those two final tests. If you pay attention during lecture and do the homework, you can skate by this class.
If you have the opportunity, take him. Don't have space? Make room for his class, seriously. I promise you he's one of the best math teachers in temple hands down. Temple's math department has a really bad reputation, but Osborne is like one of the few gems you'll find here, so take him if you can. He's actually caring, genuinely.
Professor Osborne is my favorite professor I've had at Temple so far. He teaches a difficult subject in a relatively easy to understand way, while cracking a few jokes here and there to keep everyone entertained. 100% take his class if you haven't yet!
Professor Osborne was able to make a class I was dreading an enjoyable experience. Do I like calculus after taking his class? Absolutely not. Did he explain concepts really well and surround each one with dry, dark humor? Absolutely. Take him if you can.
Professor Osborne is literally amazing! Calc is inherently difficult but he is able to explain it in a way that makes sense. You will still have to make sure you put time into doing the problems before the weekly quizzes but he actually made calculus more enjoyable. If you have a chance to take his class do it!
Literally the best professor ever. Makes some funny jokes you would not expect in a college setting and is an amazing teacher. The stuff he goes over in lecture will let you complete the homework with ease. You won't be needing to get extra help as his explanations are very clear. Protect this man at all costs!!!
Honors course of math is more difficult than the regular course. He makes all exams by himself except the final exam which we take exam together with regular course students. Sometimes the number of the answer is awkward. But the amount of homework is certainly small than regular course. Similar exam questions emerge from his lecture notes.
By far the best professor in Temple University math department. Calculus is not an easy subject, but he explains it in a way that it is so easy to understand. If you're struggling, make time to go to his office hours because he'll let you ask as many questions as you want and ask questions in the beginning of class. Genuine and caring all around.
Had him freshman year as well for 1942. Very chill guy who cares about teaching you. Makes the same jokes a lot, but still quite humorous. Grading for homework and exams are lenient. Exam reviews are very helpful and reflects what's on the exams. Overall, great class and great prof.
Dr. Osborne is a sweet, funny prof who cares deeply about his students and only wants them to succeed. He always sets out time for students during office hours to ask questions about homework/exams, and recognizes each student's potential. 3 exams, homework every week (except during exam week), no quizzes! Amazing lecturer too (:
He's a great professor! He explains material well and moves at a good pace. He gives feedback on assignments and is willing to hear feedback about how the class is being taught if you talk to him individually. He'll also add in some humor every once in a while. Overall, a really nice experience in a calculus class.
Charles is probably my favorite math teacher I have ever had. He is great at teaching calc and really tries to keep the class fresh and engaged. I would highly recommend him for any math class
Charles Osborne is the only math professors that is universally loved by every student I have talked to about him. He explains every concept incredibly clearly with plenty of examples and some occasional humor that is dry even by college math major standards. Whatever course you are taking, If Osborne is a possible professor, take it with him.
He's the best math professor I've had at temple. I had him for basic concepts and number theory. He's really nice and cares about each students success. He jokes that his exams are so hard that he can't even solve every problem but in reality they're rather manageable as long as you do the study guide which he gives the answers to before the exam.
Dr. Osborne is the best math professor I've had, ever. His lectures are clear and thorough, and his examples reflect what you should know for quizzes and exams. He's really funny and sweet as well. Dr. Osborne is the best, and I would definitely take him again if I could.
I have no words; he is simply an amazing and funny professor.
if you haven't taken calc before, you're gonna be hard, but if you go to class, the free tutoring, and do the homework, you'll pass. the class before each exam, he holds the whole time for questions and explaining concepts. there are weekly quizzes (2-4 Qs). homework is honestly super manageable i just have terrible time management. he's the best.
Professor Osborne is very traditional when it comes to a purely lecture-based class, so I would not recommend taking CALC 1941 if you did not take calculus in high school as it was difficult to learn the basics in this format. However, that is not entirely the fault of Professor Osborne, as his depth with lecturing is great for the experienced.
Professor Osborne is a wonderful teacher. As someone who appreciates clear and detailed teaching, I was pleased with his thoroughness. He is always willing to help students outside of class, answering questions willingly and without judgment. The long lectures can get boring, but the problem sets/quizzes should be a breeze if you pay attention.
rlly cares about students, passion 4 teaching. lectures r good, speaks clearly/loudly nd writes clearly on board. hes very accessible outside class. has regular office hrs nd never cancelled unexpectedly. also often went far overtime. doesnt judge or think a question you have is stupid. makes comments on any problems u have questions on in canvas
Great professor! Weekly quizzes over the exact problems he examples in class. Surprisingly witty and has some earned jokes about the history of math. Do the homework and reviews and you are set.
Great guy. Phenomenal guy. He explains things clearly, he encourages asking questions, and you can tell he cares about the material as well as his students - not to mention the utter bombshells he occasionally drops into his lectures. Overall, a veritable joy to have as an instructor - I cannot recommend him highly enough.
Dr. Osborne is one of the best (if not the best) professors in the Math department at Temple. His lectures are so clear and organized that he makes Calculus easy. I had him for Honors Calculus II, and he was always accessible outside class to answer any questions. He is hilarious and wants every student to succeed.
Amazing. Take him
Osborne is great. His lectures are clear and while he is dry and monotone, he uses it to poke fun at himself which makes class a lot more enjoyable since you don't know what insane thing he's gonna say next. Exams were fair and easily studyable for imo. Also, they get graded really fast. Everyone got their final back in less than 24 hours.
I had Professor Osborne for Honors Calc II--I LOVEE HIM!!! The start of the course was rough because of the Friday quizzes, I personally found them to be a little too tricky considering it was supposed to be a weekly recap/quiz. However, Osborne is incredibly sweet and offers so much assistance and help that I was able to start grasping, take him!!
Professor Osborne's lectures are engaging despite his dry humor. Weekly quizzes and manageable homework make this class doable with effort. Using Unstuck ai alongside the textbook and free tutoring really helped me stay on top of the material.
dr.osborne has amazing reviews for a reason. outstanding lecturer, informative and entertaining. one of the kindest profs u will ever have the pleasure of meeting. this course was tough and the only grades were exams and one weekly hw which was graded for accuracy. cant lie - brutal. but made me a better mathematician. take osborne u wont regret it
W teacher, he made calc 2 manageable. He is good at explaining things and you can tell this man is a genius! Quizzes every friday, sometimes take home, always out of 20. It's usually about 2-3 questions. Love the humor, he learns names quick, he def cares. 10/10 would take him again.
One of the best professors at this university. Class average for exams was always at mid 90's and that's saying a lot for Calc 2. Genuinely cares about students and their success, and is a really quick grader. Class is gonna be a lot of work but that's just Calc 2 in general. He finds ways to make lectures funny and it's not hard to stay engaged!
Lovely teacher. Tbh, I sometimes can't understand him in his lectures as he's got this winded style of speech, but he accounts for that through his step-by-step process on the whiteboard. Incorporates some dry humor to spice things up, and it's pretty funny. His pants sing to him. Would recommend.
Dr. Osborne is the best math professor that Temple has to offer. I have never been great at math, but he makes everything easier to understand. His lectures are very detailed, and the homework assignments are thorough without being too much work. He never belittled anyone if they had questions and did an amazing job at teaching this course!
