best psych teacher ever- quirky, energetic, excited, loves students- everything a teacher should be
Col guy but pretty random...teaching doesn't follow book chapters he says he's on but tests are fair...no other grades besides tests.
I LOVED THIS GUY. VERY COOL TEACHER.
Amazing prof. Says tests will be straight from the margins of the text, but he fibs. They're more intuitive, so make sure you really understand the material, not just memorize it.
This teacher wasn't any help to me. He never gave notes or reviews over our tests and was difficult.
Overstreet was really hard to understand in Psyc, and you will probably end up dropping this class. Therefore don't take this class if he's teaching it,also he does NOT give any reviews on tests. Don't make the same mistake that I did!

Had him for lifespan in the summer. He's a great teacher w/a good sense of humor and fascinating lectures. All he did was just talk but class was never boring because he connects everything to real life and just keeps it interesting. Tests were very easy,just know the bold terms in the book. I made an A and definitely recommend him for Lifespan.
i am a psych major and dr overstreet made this subject dry and boring. i showed up to class everyday only to hear boring personal stories and not much about psych. he ONLY lectures and offers no visual aids like notes, powerpoints, or reviews. i ended up droping this class, and it's a shame. like i said, i am a psych major DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS
The BEST teacher I've EVER had. He's funny, and he knows what he's talking about. Dr. Overstreet obviously wants his students to learn something, so if you're serious about actually learning, take his class. If you want your hand held, don't.
Really interesting teacher if you like funny personal anecdotes. He's very good at explaining things. The tests are really long, but they're all multiple choice with one essay that he gives you in class a week before the test. You DO have to read the chapters. But, there is no homework and the only essays are on the test. I recommend this teacher.
One of the worst teachers I've ever had. He goes off topic all the time, he puts like 5-6 chapters on one test when you only have covered 2 chapters. He never gives out reviews. I would never never take him again if I even had a chance. You just have to learn for yourself because you never learn rarely anything in class he just talks and talks and
With him you will learn the material. In order to do well on tests you must read a good portion of the book and carefully consider everything he says in lectures. He has a habit of going off on topics, very liberally opinionated, and repeats himself. He will help you try to understand the information.
HORRIBLE PROFESSOR!!! No reviews, you cannot review your tests after you have taken them. Even if he says not to worry about certain things in the book, go ahead and read (and know the whole book in detail. because you never know what could be on the test.
very nice man, but awful teacher. He makes it very clear that your class is a minor, unimportant part of his day that he could care less about. he likes to hear himself talk, and he (thinks) is right about EVERYTHING. He has another job and mostly taLks about that. He basically doesnt have office hours, he never returns phone calls or emails.
good teacher. prior semesters he had to take leave because he also works/worked for the US ARMY overseas. said that one of his classes had a 18 hr notice before he shipped off for the first time as a professor at TCCD. He's a pretty cool guy. as far as physical appearance, he looks like hybrid of ned flanders and chuckie's dad from the rugrats.
he is very funny and nice. his lectures aren't the most organized ever, but if you follow his advice on how to do well you should be okay. he is pretty lenient and he really knows what he's talking about.
Mr. Overstreet was extremely knowledgeable, fun, and goofy. He doesn't necessarily teach for the test, he teaches for true understanding that is applicable in the real world. If you are comfortable with/have a love for psychology (basics/theories included), then you will adore him. If you are just meeting requirements, then you may have trouble.
Mr. Overstreet is a pretty cool guy.We didnt use the book unless you wanted to on your own.he tells you what to study before the test and also gives out study guides.If you have a question he will go over it as many times as it takes for you to understand it.love the class!
he's a good person and is way too goofy..can keep a class entertained but at the same time doesn't really explain as much about stuff. rushes things and doesn't cover everything in the time given!
Do Not take this guy; he's not that clear, rushes through material, and jumps off subject. If your someone who wants your GPA to drop then go ahead and take him.

Professor Overstreet is a really good professor BUT be warned his test are extremely difficult. You MUST read the book. If you actually want to learn take Overstreet, if you want an easy A i would not recommend taking his classes
Nice guy but his teaching skills are not helpful, he does a lot of talking about things that has nothing to do with the test. No extra credit was given out. Study guides are just all the terms in the chapter. To pass you NEED to read and understand everything for yourself. And his tests are super hard.
Charles is a great teacher. He is funny and goes over almost everything you need to know. Read the chapters, and you'll be set, he's very enjoyable.
Prof. Overstreet is a nice guy. His exams are EXACTLY based off the blue-tinted/bold definitions in the book. You don't technically have to go to class but I guarantee that everything he talks about in class will be on the test. Looking over my notes helped for my first test, until I realized that all I had to do was type up the definitions.
Dr.O was a quirky character. His lectures were pretty boring most of time, but I did enjoy the material. I did not do that great on the exams, but also did not study or read as I should have. No assignments strickly exams, so if you structure yourself to read the long chapters it shouldn't be too bad. I deserved a C, he gave me a B!
Dr. O is pretty entertaining, but most of the times his lectures are irrelevant. There are only 5 tests and the material come straight from the book...before class use the "study guides" he gives to type out the definitions and take it with you to class (if you go lol). Review that before the test and you should be fine. Pretty easy grade.
I thought his class was quite difficult. I didn't like how he cussed in class and blatantly spoke against political and religious views that had nothing to do with the class. The book is necessary. Exam questions come from the book and his study guides. My interest level at first was very high, but I did not like how he taught. :/
I took him for developmental psychology. He gives 4 exams and the final and he drops your lowest exam. His lectures are pretty useless because he rambles on but the class/tests itself are pretty easy. He uploads review sheets for each chapter and the tests are straight from the review sheets. Most of his tests are just definitions.

I took him for all my Pysc courses and loved him. I thought he was very interesting and that the classes themselves were informative. As long as you read the book the tests are easy. One of my favorite professors!
Only take this teacher if you are able to read all the chapters in the book, that is all his tests are based on, but chapters are around 50 pages long. You can not go to class read the chapters and do fine on the test. His lectures are useless. My learning style and his teaching style didn't work so i dropped the class. Teacher Not recommended!!!

Do not take this class. I've made an A in: Algebra, Bus Calc, Micro Econ., Macro Econ., Fina ACCT, Mana ACCT, but couldn't do better than a B in this class.
Don't take this teacher! I took him in the Spring 11 and he seemed like a great teacher, but after a few lectures he cares more about himself. He wonders off during his lectures about his military days and being a dr. His test questions run together and its confusing. Even when I thought I did great I still failed. Now I have to retake this course!
I would not recommend taking him. He was really hard and does not give extra credit. He gives you chapters to read then take a test. Gives no homework and does not give any review for the test!!
I work hard to get A's in all my classes, and I got a high A in this class too. It was easier than all the complainers on here made it sound. Many people around me didn't seem to care about the class, had trouble studying, or just wouldn't show up, and they made bad grades. You will have to study his reviews and the textbook outside of class.
Took dr. Overstreet twice, first time I failed because they way he explained material was so different from actually test. So failed him, then I re-took the same class and passed, because he actually didn't change any of the material. Very knowledgable man. Learned Alot.

Unless you're amazing at taking only test I wouldn't take him. He only has 4 test and that's your whole grade. You have to attend class because a lot of his stuff is in lectures and he tends to wander off topic a lot. His lectures make the material easier to obtain.
Love him! He is sweet and helpful and passionate about what he does. It helps if you love psychology. I forced my husband to take him this semester and he loves him too. Very personable and a delight. Take him!!
Nice guy, horrible teacher. Didn't use the book at all, went very off topic everyday, and only gave tests which were 90+ questions each. I definitely do not recommend taking his class.
He is a great professor. He really knows what he is talking about. You do need the book because he only lectures in class but, his lectures are extremely interesting and he is quite comical. I encourage you to take his class because you will learn a lot. I am not a psych. major but I did enjoy this class and therefore the subject.
Appears to know what he talks about to himself, doesnt go in order of study guide, never remembers what we went over the previous class, does not do reveiws at all, will not what so ever in a speck tell you what to expect on a test, do not take him if you are not a college graduate!!!
I have made flash cards, completed the study guides, attended every lecture, and read the entire book, yet every test is seemingly foreign. My highest mark was an 80. The professor is an awesome guy, but don't take this class unless you have a supernatural memory. Poor instruction, goes off on tangents, and the study guides are absolutely useless.
Heck of a nice guy. If you are a Psychology major and care about your grade, don't take him. He goes off on tangents constantly that have nothing to do with what you need to know. You might as well read the whole book and memorize it because that is the only way you will learn anything really helpful to passing the course. This class was very hard.
Great teacher! Really makes his lectures interesting, but his tests are super hard. I paid attention, took notes, attended every class and still struggled with the tests. I would only recommend him if you TRULY have a passion for psychology and an amazing memory lol.
i loved this class! stop complaining about oversteet being hard!! he was awesome!! i took both his psychology and developmental psych in the summer of 2013, and loved it. he teaches at a college level, not high school! in college you have to study!! but he was great and and i actually considered changing my nursing major to psych
i love this guy! im surprised he got such bad reviews. i assume he has changed his teaching style since they were written. he makes psychology very interesting and is a funny guy. i feel like ive genuinely learned a lot. i dont personally like using the study guides so i take notes by hand and record. it works for me.
Overstreet is an extremely nice person and funny too. However, he does not really teach. He lectures in class about things that are not on the test and does not give test reviews. He did give some extra credit though,5 points per test. I would not recommend taking him. Test are miserable and hard.No test reviews,no help,no teaching!
Dr. Overstreet is very funny and he tries his best to make the material relevant so it's easy to remember. Yes, it's difficult, but its a sophomore level class! He teaches like a state university professor would. He answered all of my personal questions about psych too. I loved him even though it was difficult!
He gets off topic way too much about unnecessary things in psychology. But when we do talk about stuff, it's helpful information but doesn't go over a lot of stuff because he's too busy talking about what his past life is.

I took both his general psych and lifespan class. Very quirky, funny guy whose love for psych shows. You MUST read the chapters and take time to learn his testing style. His tests are long. I liked that he would get off topic sometimes. When he does he is still teaching us psychology, its just stuff thats not in the book. Pretty educational class
He is a nice guy. Gets off topic continually. Test seem to have nothing to do with the lectures. I tried just reading the chapters and still didn't do well on the tests. He is very unclear on what you need to study and his lectures really seem to be the same broken record every class. He lets students get him way off topic every class too.

Dr. Overstreet was a very good professor. His test were clear cut (in my opinion) and there was never any extra "busy work". His lectures, for the most part, pertained to the subject matter. Attend class, fill out the study guides and STUDY THE STUDY GUIDES and you will make an easy B or A in this class. Ask questions, he's super helpful!
Dr. Overstreet knows his material really well. He doesn't just hit you with the book, he explains everything in a way that's very comprehensible for anyone knew to the topic. His lectures are great, he's fun, and he highlights topics with personal life experiences and things he's picked up on from working in his profession. Brilliant professor.
Dr. O is an older man but he's quirky and probably the most intelligent guy i've ever known. He lets you ask questions during his lectures but he has a real bad habit of getting off topic. His off topics are interesting but it'll be stuff that won't be on the test so you've gotta stick to the study guide. The study guide is a BIG help for tests.
Dr. Overstreet was great in class. He is very quirky, yet intelligent & knows what he's talking about in lectures. The study guides saved my life in this class and all the tests are multiple choice. He does go off topic, but it normally is relevant or a real life scenario that helps you understand the lecture topic. I plan on taking him again.

Dr. Overstreet was my favorite. The tests were very specific but he gives amazing study guides. Do your study guides in depth and you will do great on the test. He's supposed to go over the answers to the study guide in his lectures but he goes off topic all the time. But he's hilarious, I love his stories. People leave early all the time too.
A very tough but fair teacher. You have to be in class, and make the effort, but he is very fair, and helpful. Took his first psych class, and would take him again if I can.
His lectures turn into conversations. Although interesting, but not specific to what will be on the test. He doesn't lecture in detail. I noticed after the first test students paid less attention to his lectures and were focused on reading the book and working on the study guides during class. Tests are specific.. read read read. Do study guides!!
Let me be very clear this is a very hard class. Total grade is composed of only a few tests grades. Tests are different from study guides. Lectures are good but can trickle off into personal stories. Dr. Overstreet is a very nice and funny guy but this is the hardest class I have ever taken. Best of luck to his next round of students!
I took Prof. Overstreet Fall 2015. There were 4 Exams (between 50-100 questions each) & a Final Exam (101 questions). He provides the Study Guides for each chapter on Blackboard & the textbook is a MUST. Complete the Study Guide before class so that all you have to do is add notes on what he says during the lecture. Get a study buddy -it'll help!
He is a goods man just gets off subject easily. The only work in class are 4 test and 1 final by the way the 4th test and final will be given on the day of the final. You take the 4th test give you a 15 minute break then take the final they both have to be done within the 2 hours limit. Final takes place of lowest test grade. Do your study Guides.

He is a nice guy. his lectures are fun but get off topic all the time. he will take most of the time to talk about things that don't related to the teaching. It seems like he comes to class not knowing what to teach. And don't ask him questions about the reviews, he won't help. To pass his class, need the textbook and get ready to teach yourself
I took this professor this past spring and had the WORST time trying to understand it all. He isn't very clear on what will be on the test when lecturing, he tends to go off on tangents that have nothing to do with the curriculum. USE THE STUDY GUIDES. MAKE TIME TO READ. (2 of my issues this past semester)
The tests were nothing like the study guides he provided for us, his lectures are tough because he moves so fast and doesn't write anything on the board so you have to really hurry and write notes before he moves on to the next thing i wouldnt take him agian
Wonderful instructor. Even if you don't understand the class or the subject matter if you just read the chapters and do the study guides you will pass. No doubt! He is a great man and very understanding. He wants you to pass and does everything he can to help you along the way. Great lectures and interesting class even if this isn't your field.

I literally appreciate Dr. Overstreet. He is very knowledgeable. He spends the entire class lecturing over the study guide and the book. If you pay attention he will give you several examples to help you understand the subjects. He requires you ready and study and attend class daily. I have taken him for Psych and Life Span. Excellent teacher.

I am a student in his class , he is a very interesting professor - he makes the lectures relatable , short , sweet & to the point - and he does keep your interest though and though - he also very understanding & very reasonable! he will worth the run!
He is a great lecturer, and he gives study guides that tell you exactly what will be on the test. If you can't find one of the answers on the study guide, either ask him in person or email. He always responds.

Really enjoyed this class! All he does is lecture all class but he will tell stories or jokes that are very relevant to the topics. You get study guides for all the exams which are really helpful, do them and the exams will be a breeze! Very flexible and willing to work with you or help you with anything related to this class.

He's definitely interesting. Gives very anecdotal lectures that can sometimes leave you with more questions than answers. He's silly and tends to ramble, often getting off topic. But he answers questions very thoroughly. Go off his reviews and you'll do fine. His reviews are pretty much the test.
Dr. Overstreet is an amazing professor! I took his Lifespan Psychology this semester & it's a great class! There are a lot of clinical terms that you need to know but he's very patient when explaining things. You're graded based on 4 tests & an optional final. He always puts a few 'joke' answers on tests to help you get as many points as possible!
He is a very good proffessor but you will have to study to pass his test , if you don't study you won't pass his test . He does not do any extra credit , but as long as you do your study guides and focus on the bold vocal words in your book you will be fine . He does not drop you if you do not show up to class .

Dr. Overstreet has lots of experience and makes the class easy to follow. Buy an older edition of the textbook because it is cheaper and you really dont need to read it, just use it to fill out the study guides. I got an A by just studying the study guides for each test. In this class you will have no power points, no extra credits, get ready to read your chapters, and his lectures are sometimes off the book. Also he rambles a lot about life stories that have absolutely no relevance to the topic at hand and lessons get left behind because of this. Besides these issues, he is overall nice.

took him fall 2019. Literally there's no reason for you to be in class. If you want a someone who actually lectures on RELEVANT topics then this isn't the one for you. Gives reviews for test which are literally the test all the answers are in the textbook. didn't realize that until it was too late. Seriously no reason to be in class.
Grades are made up of only 4 main tests. It took him a few days to reply back to emails. All the answers to the reviews are in the book. You need to study and put a lot of effort into this class to pass.
Ive tooken his class before and had to drop it since i had a really bad grade, you only get graded on by tests and theres 4 and a final. he doesnt teach and you have to study yourself and learn on your own instead of being taught by him. he is a very goofy funny professor not a boring one but just doesnt teach lol.
Class was on-line because of COVID. He had powerpoints that had lectures recorded. Pretty helpful. Helps to know the terminology on the exams. He gave good feedback on essays and allowed for corrections to get full credit. Really helpful.

Super nice guy, but all over the place. Lessons very rarely stay on topic. He only has a few grades for the class which are all 50+ question tests. 20+ pages of study booklets filled out by reading the book, PER TEST. Lowest grade is dropped, but passing this class requires a lot of studying, reading and good memory.
Outstanding professor! Grade wise, you’ll be fine with a good effort. Will answer all questions fully, and has a ton of experience stories. Truly wants students to learn and do well. As long as you pay attention, you’ll leave with a much better understanding of the subject.
Dr. Overstreet is very passionate and knowledgeable about psych. His lectures are so interestering to listen to and he connects them with real-world scenerios. He has long years of professional expirience which help you in the long run, do your part and you will be good! Take him! you will learn so much.
I want other students to know he is a very funny, likeable person however, he only grades you by 4 exams, lectures but gets off track most of the time, doesn't offer extra credit. He does drop the lowest grade, but you also have to read and learn on your own. The exams have a ton of questions on them and it's a lot to remember in a short time.
Lecture exam 4 and the final were on the same day. He was unsure about the exam date and didn't give us reminders. His communication skills need some work. He pushes back tests and he gets sidetracked during lectures. I did well in his class but sadly since I missed exam 4 and the final, I will have to take it again. 2 zeroes, jeez...that hurts.
This is one of the best, if not best professors I have ever had. He's funny, will answer all of your questions, and the exams aren't hard if you use the study guide/ list of key terms he gives out. He can get a little off track during lecture but is usually relating it to the topic he's talking about. Super funny and kind. Take this class for PYSC.
So, yes, the lectures are long, but I found them to be very interesting. There are real-life situations sprinkled in and I assume that if you are taking this course, you can sit through lectures and take notes. Read the chapters, do the study guides. Ask questions. He's kind and approachable so you are capable of making a good grade in this class.

Professor Overstreet is engaging but can get sidetracked. To succeed, use the study guides, read the textbook, and leverage resources like Unstuck study. Attendance is mandatory, but the workload is manageable.
I'm so glad that Prof. Over-street was one of my instructors because he is very knowledgeable, cares about his students to succeed in his class and has a great sense of humor! Would recommend to study over his online lectures, fill-out study guides or create flashcards for memorizing terms. Overall, would always recommend him to any future student!
