I loved this teacher!!! He assigns homework everyday but he never collects... He tells you in the begining of the course that he is not collecting it so dont bother doing it unless your'e having trouble. Tests are pretty easy, he goes kind of fast but he will answer any question if you have one. He gives out quizes which are super easy and only tak
countinuing where i left off... he only collects your top 4 scores from the quizes... I highly recommend him!!!
Awesome professor! Everything he teaches can be found easily the textbook. Very helpful, respectful to students. Assigns hw but never collects it. Multiple choice exams and quizes. Loved this class!
Though Pagan is easy in regards to assignments and tests, this course will be difficult for those who struggle with math. Pagan uses a different approach, such as presenting information in "cases". Very confusing. I had to depend on the book, which did not help with tests. Answers on tests are formulated differently than shown in the book.
An easy A...Great professor! He does not collect homework, but there is a quiz pretty much every class period.
Nice man and did a pretty good job teaching. Unfortunately he's a little boring and the class is VERY dry. This was the first time I felt like the overall crazy energy of the class was preventing me from learning. Students were constantly coming and going, texting, talking, eating and being disruptive and he would say nothing to anyone.
This Guy is very confusing! his approach to math is horrible, he presents his information with "situations" if you struggle w/math, your SOL!
this guy was so boring. his teaching method is writing out everything in word which i thought was extremely useless. I actually thought the book was more useful. I usually love math but i thought this class was just horrible to stay in.
he is probably the worst math teacher's i have ever had. he writes everything he says word for word on the board, which is just a waste of time. also, it's like he's teaching himself, or talking to himself. he doesnt ask the class questions to see if we understand. overall bad teacher.
He is very nice. If you ask questions he will answer them. He is a very fair grader and test and quizes were multiple choice. that was great.
He is fast paced, so don't miss class, those who missed more than 4 classes, failed. 3 Exams, plus a final, and has 10 pop quizes. You must study and do material, even though he does not collect hw. No calculators allowed, EVER! so make sure you know your stuff. Sit in the front, he writes extremely tiny!!!
homework is not collected but recommened that you do it. 3-4 question quiz each week and 4 test during sememster. boring class dont expect a joke out of him the whole semester
His teaching style works best for me. I really like how he explains the materials. He is really patient. He is extremely helpful. Whenever you raise your hand and ask a question, he is willing to answer them. His tests and quizzes are very easy. All you gotta do is do your homework and study the material.
Great teacher. Simple guidelines. A few quizzes a week...test every 3 weeks or so. Anyone who gets less than a B simply isn't trying hard enough. Overall a very easy class.
He is very knowledgable in his field, however, he is not helfful and is very fasted paced. Doesn't always answer questions clearly. If your good at math take him if not don't.
Knows his stuff but the worst teacher. He doesn't care if you get it or not. He needs to slow down. Don't take his class if you expect to pass. You need tutoring more than him.
Very fast paced teacher but if you pay attention, go to class, do the homework you will do fine.
Easy. All you need is attend to class and understand a concept. In my view, he is very helpful and teaches detail steps how the concept goes through to answers(sometimes, get confused cuz he goes too details) but nothing wrong with him :) Its all responsible from students efforts so if you don't do your work, you will get lost.
Great teacher, I took him for three different classes and was pleased every time. He is always available for help and his tests questions are exactly the same as his examples. MUST TAKE HIS CLASS
Charles is a nice guy but makes the math very complicated and does not simplify it enough. Tests can be harder than the actual homework so practice all the hard questions in the book. Homework is not a requirement in this class but it is recommended if you want to do well on his tests and quizzes.
Take his class good teacher... Do the homework and ask questions if u don't understand.. Yes he goes fast.. But he's there to help u understand..
Good professor. If you have questions he will go over them and will even come in early or stay late. He can go pretty fast so if he goes past something you do not understand just ask him to explain. Assigned homework but never collected it. If you study and do the homework you will pass.
Helped me finally understand algebra, his tests are multiple choice which is awesome, and you don't have to turn in your homework! I took an 8 week summer class, but did just fine and I'm horrible at math!
A Good Professor! His only weakness is that he goes bit too fast sometimes. I took MATH96 with him. His Exams were easy, and helpful in many ways. I feel that he is bit lazy to explain certain concepts in Math.
Super easy, and shows you how to do everything.
An interesting guy to say the least, but knows the subject matter. Taken over the summer, the course and tested material was heavily based on the homework from the book. Graded upon three exams and the two highest quiz scores (out of ten).
He knows his stuff well enough but doesn't care as to if you actually receive the knowledge or not. He goes extremely fast as a chapter a day, and instead of making sure everyone knows and understands the material we have to learn even less because of the next subject. I was excited when the course started, but dreaded going after. It's too hard.
Math is not my best subject, but I did really well in Math 95 and 96 so I felt ready for Math 124. Ended up in Mr. Pagan's class, and dropped it after the 3rd week. I've not been this frustrated and lost in a long time. He seems to know how to do the math, but is not very good at explaining it, he skips steps, and doesn't really answer questions.
He does problems but doesn't really explain. Study is a must to pass because most of his stuff you might not understand. Doesn't take attendance, but attending class in order to take notes and understand is a must.
Can't believe I passed his class. Only reason is b/c he grades C's as 67-79. Highest 3 quiz grades are used. He is such a math person that he explains the lectures in a way non-math people cant understand. Even if you ask him to explain it again! Also rushes through notes. Nice guy, but I will never take a class from him again. Lesson Learned.
Terrible! I failed this class. He rushes through the lecture. You really have to have an idea about math 126 and get ready to study your butt off if you want a good grade. I didn't practice with hw, never went to tutoring, did not pay attention in class because I had no idea what was going on. I would NOT take this class again and I hope you don't.
Don't take a class expecting to receive a decent grade just because you think you deserve it. You have to work for it. Math isn't easy, I hate it! Professor Pagan does go a billion miles per hour, but he's a great teacher! Do your homework and you'll be just fine! You have to do your HW though. Did you get that...?! Do your HW and you WILL succeed!
Great teacher! Multiple choice quizzes and exams. Lots of homework but you don't have to turn it in. If you do the homework, you'll have no problems passing the class with an A.
Simple guidelines. This guy is very knowledgable. Attendance is not mandatory, but if you do attend his lectures, expect an A. Do all homework and ALL quizzes and exams will be a piece of cake. Make sure to ask questions if you don't understand something, he won't move on until you do.
If Math isn't something that interests you, this is your teacher! I don't care for Math, but I needed MATH120 to graduate, well, this guy just helped me graduate. If I needed more Math, I would take it with him. He really takes the time to explain what you don't understand.
Easy A. Quiz every week and four exams. Do your homework, attend lectures, ask questions and you will be just fine.
Great teacher! I spent two semesters avoiding Math. First, because I don't like Math, and second, because I couldn't find the right teacher. A friend of mine told me about Mr. Pagan. His class isn't easy, but I passed and with an A. If I passed, so can you! Expect a lot of homework :)
Attendance isn't mandatory, however, if you attend every lecture, do your homework, and ask questions, YOU WILL GET AN A!
Not an easy class, don't believe everything you read. Yes, he is a great teacher. Yes, you can pass with an A (I did!) Yes, you do succeed if you do your homework. BUT, you have to also study as many HOURS as you can because the class is tough. I mean, tough!
I don't like Math, but I managed to pass this class with an A. I did all of my homework (you don't have to turn it in.) If you follow instructions, and do your work (it isn't much) you will pass this class easily. 11 Quizzes 20% of your grade (he'll only count your 3 highest scores.) 4 Exams 80% of your grade. Easy A!
EASY A! All you have to do is your homework and ask questions when in doubt
Easiest class I've ever taken, and I need to mention that Math is NOT one of my strengths. We had about 10 or 11 quizzes, and 4 exams. All of them were pretty easy since I did all of my homework. I don't need any more Math classes right now, but if I ever do, I'm taking them with this teacher.
This is a very easy class. There are no reasons you shouldn't get an A. I should tell you what happens at the end of the semester if you actually attend his lectures, and stay for the entire lecture, but I'm not. Find out on your own! I did.
Do all homework plus attend all lectures equals A!
You'll take a quiz every week, and four exams throughout the semester, I missed one exam and still got a very decent grade. Don't believe the negative comments! This professor can really teach. If you follow directions, you will succeed.
This class isn't easy! It took a lot of work, but I did get an A. If you practice enough at home before taking a quiz or a test, you will not only pass, but get 100% If you have any questions, make sure you ask. Teacher briefly reviews before quizzes and exams, so take advantage of that. I'd take him again!
This class was not was I expected at all. I honestly thought it would be hard to pass, but it isn't. I did all homework and passed every quiz and test with 85% or better. After getting good grades on the first couple of quizzes, I knew I had discovered the secret to success... Study, study and study more.
If I would've known how easy this class would've been with this teacher, I would've taken it two semesters ago. Do your homework, and you will get an A. Problems on quizzes and tests are all very similar to the homework's. I did every problem at home twice before taking quizzes or tests and that helped me get 90% every time!
Who said Math was impossible to do? I did! I take it back though, and I have Mr. Pagan to thank for that as well! I got a B and didn't have to invest much time studying like crazy. All I had to do was pay attention, ask questions when in doubt, do my homework. I'm taking him again next semester!
Very easy class with great structure!! Quiz every week, and 4 exams throughout the semester. If you do your homework, you will succeed and you will even want to come to this site to give this teacher a great review. I know I did, and I never do!
This professor is a tough grader, but if you do all the work, you will get a very good grade. Expect a quiz or test every week.
Charles Pagan is very by the books. It feels like he is reading straight from math text and it is just as boring. I'm sure that if I had paid better attention I could have received an A, but his lectures were putting me to sleep. On top of it all, no Canvas posts. Want to pass? Attend class, take notes, bring some coffee because it is a snoozer.
Take this class, you won't regret it. It isn't easy, but if you are organized, you will manage to get a really good grade. I got an A.
Professor Pagan made math a lot more understanding. All his test are straight from homework assignments. So if you do the homework you will pass the quizzes and exams. He really wants his students to pass so ask him for help. Take him if you're not confident in math. Thank you again Professor Pagan!
Gives homework for practice, not graded. He is a heavy lecturer and takes questions and explains if something if not understood. Grade is based on quizzes and exams. Tells you what section quizzes are on and the day. He write both exams and quizzes and they are almost always multiple choice. If not multiple choice he tells you
He is very passionate about math. It seems like he doesn't care whether or not students understand. He doesn't help you if you do not understand. I learn from the book, because he isn't very good at teaching. He assigns homework every night, but does not grade it. It is your choice to do homework.
He really does not care if students succeed. He also changed the schedule of the class and changed his grading criteria near the end of the course. He does not use canvas at all and you must email him for your grade. He was horribly boring and never showed an ounce of enthusiasm.
Didn't really know how to answer questions when students asked for better understanding, moved very quickly through topics even when asked to slow down, marked off points for unimportant things, didn't teach everything on tests, you didn't know your grade until class was over
I would not take his class. Not the best at teaching and overall boring. I taught myself better than I feel he taught us. Assigns hw but doesn't collect it so it's really up to you. He also doesn't post grades, so you won't find out your grade until the class is over (which seriously irks me). Again very boring and stingy with time.
The only math teacher that will ever explain everything step-by-step and make it easy to understand! I've never walked out of his class confused or lost about what we just learned. He is very clear with his lectures. He grades only by quizzes and exams. The quizzes are easy. The only downside is the exams are SUPER hard; it WILL test your knowledge
He doesn't use Canvas, so just email him to ask your grade. The quizzes are not bad, only the top 3 count to your score. The exams are on about 3-4 chapters of material each. I found that the class moved a bit quickly for me, but I went to the math center to catch up. He goes step by step and does not skip around like other annoying teachers will.
he wasn't fair, would not let us retake quizzes in any circumstances. he gave way too much homework which he never graded at all. all we did was quizzes and thats all we got graded for. fail twice on a test/quiz , you probably you wont pass. would not take his class again. not the best professor. he needs more to learn before he can teach us.
Charles Pagan is a very good instructor. He is very patient and will thoroughly explain every step. I took Math 093 over the Summer of '16 and did not miss a single class and easily passed. He gives a great review before the tests and midterm and will answer any question. I would take another one of his classes.
He seems passionate about math but sadly doesnt know how to teach the material. I asked him for help&saidclass ends at 9:20, in other words when the time hits hes off the clock. He doesnt use canvas so you have to email him. He grades mostly on quizzes&exams,so if you mess up on a couple you probably wont pass. Goes to fast and isnt sprcific.
To begin with, I am still waiting for a response from an email I sent about three weeks ago. He gives a lot of homework, but you will never know if you are actually learning, because he does not grade it. He only grades on quizzes and exams. Do yourself a favor and find a professor who actually grades the homework, which is what we pay for.
Great professor. He breaks down each problem step by step. He assigns homework but never collects it but DO THE HOMEWORK and you'll get an A!Trust me!Every class he asks if anyone has questions about the homework. Some quiz questions come straight from the homework. All quizzes and final exam are fairly easy. Take all the notes and show up to class
I enjoyed Professor Pagan. I have been terrible at math my entire life and somehow he explained everything in a way that I could understand. The textbook breaks things down as well. He moves a bit fast but you can always go back and review in the book. I thought he was a superb teacher.
If you don't understand math well, you wont pass the class, I was unable to pass it because he doesn't break it down for people that don't understand math, after retaking math95 with a different professor I was able to obtain a B. I can't speak for any of his other classes but for math95 I would recommend someone else. He is also pretty boring.
I took Professor Pagan for both Math 96 and 120. He is amazing. Don't listen to the bad reviews, people are just lazy. He breaks everything down step by step. Gives homework but doesn't grade it but TRUST me, DO IT anyways! It will help YOU. Show up to class and take all the notes and you'll get an A. Exams are easy! And he drops your lowest quiz :)
Details the most frequently missed questions and questions that students want answered, very responsive and patient teacher. We had an ASL translator who asked a question nearly every other step of the way, and he was very understanding in his demeanor and still gave detailed explanations without rehashing the information already given to us.
Prof. Pagan teaches content very clearly in an easy to understand manor. He gave more examples of the problems and concepts when we asked him to. Take notes, and study the content outside of class and you will do good.
He is such a great teacher! He knows a whole lot about math and always answered all the questions. The only negative is that we had tests every week, 5 questions so if you failed one it did effect your grade. Buy overall it seemed like he really cared about his students.
overall he was to fast when goes over the lecture and will answer his own question, my high school teacher taught better than this professor it seems that he does not care at all as he leaves as soon the class ends so, its quite hard to ask for help after class. I would not recommend this professor find anyone else besides him
Its a mixed emotions when it comes to professor he is a really good teacher just needs to slow down a little. He gives quizzes every week to other week. 10 total grades top 3 scores for overall quiz grades. 4 exams 25-30 questions each. He will explain things if asked. Homework is given but not mandatory. Do it most quiz questions from it.
He asked & answers his own questions & moves as at fast pace. He keeps class going until the exact time youre scheduled to leave. If he was done with the current days subject and we had 5 minutes left, he would start talking about tomorrows chapter, this happened multiple times. The notes he writes on the board help with understanding how to HW.
He does not actually teach you. He will just write examples on the board and does not post your grades. You have to email all the time to get your grade.
Would not take Pagan's class again. The whole semester grade is based on 4 exam grades and an average of quiz grades, so if you screw up on one of them your whole grade goes down the drain. He does not have office hours, or even online access to grades. Do not recommend.
I dont know why people are so harsh on the comments do the homework and study youll pass. There are 4 exams and quizzes every week but they are easy to pass if you do the homework some of the answers are from there. Always willing to go over homework problems downside is that you have to keep track of your own grade
I loved this professor's way of teaching! He went step by step and took his time to write notes down for one to follow. We did every problem as a class and he would stop to answer questions that we would have. He left homework everyday but it was not mandatory. I would definitely recommend if you like the professor to simplify the math process.
Seems like it's just a job for him. Teaches as if you already understand the material. You must do the homework if you really want to grasp the concepts. Overall, if you need a Math class, that's what this is. Personally wouldn't recommend to anyone not adept in mathematics already. Better off with an online class and skip the useless lectures.
I wish CSN allowed more than just a few days to drop a class and be refunded because it takes more than 3 days to see if a prof is a good fit. Dropped with a W when I realized my only way of succeeding would be cheating, but too late for refund :( Ugh. Wasnt happy with his teaching style, covered 3 sections in one day, its just a job to him.
This guy goes a million miles an hour. He will teach a lesson then quiz you on what happened the class before. It is really hard to manage. He will answer questions if you have enough time to process what he is saying. I dont recommend this class.
This class will give you a headache. The Professor goes so fast, and answers his own questions. Your grade is based off quizzes, but you barley learn anything with how fats he goes. It feels like he doesnt care about ether you pass or not. Try someone else.
Quite literally the worst professor I have ever had. His lectures feel like he is talking at you instead of teaching and he doesn't post grades on canvas. It's up to you yo keep track of your percentage throughout the course and it is difficult to contact him via email. Just do yourself a favor and pick another professor.
I dont understand why there are not-so good reviews for Mr. Pagan. He is actually a great professor! If you follow along and take notes, you will get it. If you have questions he will go over a problem until you understand it. Just dont be afraid to ask, he is truly helpful.
