Pretty boring, drink a lot of coffee if you have him for any classes
picks favorites, long lectures (coffee!!), but knows his stuff. read the books!
he's a funny guy
Smart Guy but Big Eyes and Nasty Laugh
He really knows his stuff and is always willing to help if you have questions
one smart ****. ps. drink coffee
he really knows his stuff, but he bores some of the dumber students.
Very interesting. Easy, but you have to read the books. Really nice guy.
loves his subject matter.
Rigorous but very skilled teacher, great sense of humor, very friendly
again, very helpful. quite cerebral, uses big words, but explains well enough
Sleeper! Man I bet he got beat up alot in school
Lectures mostly, Lots of books! Helpful if you ask him questions
Good Professor, loves what he's doing, good lecturer, but boring material
Interesting guy, seems funny, has the east coast accent, vauge resemblence to nicholas cage, kind of condeceding. PS. stop the power struggle with rayor!
Very nice guy! The material is interesting but the lectures are LONG -- take a lot of notes and you'll be all right. As mentioned, he and Rayor attempt to dominate each other quite often during some lectures. It can get pretty amusing.
I've never met a prof. who knows his stuff so well! Has a huge vocab and interacts with the class well. Tells exactly what to know for quizzes/exams. In a weird way I can see him resembling a classical Greek citizen haha.
Very much a snoozer class, but don't. Quiz's need to be studied for. He knows his stuff & will know if you don't.
I think he forgot that this is a 100 level class...expects a lot out of you...you have to read like a thousand pages!!! Knows what he is talking about though!
Pazzy is snazzy.
Kinda drones on...
A very fair, intelligent and enjoyable prof. that I would recommend. Pazdernik engages the student to analyze texts (Greek Lit) in ways many students overlook. Make sure you enjoy Greek Lit., otherwise you'll be bored.
Interesting Class topic, Gives great desciptions...however, this is only a gen Ed class and It is taught as if it was a capstone course. This class takes a lot of time that you could be putting towards your major classes.
Funny guy. I love how two profs will play off each other in lectures. Overall, he wants us to understand the material, but I get the feeling he things we are smarter than we actually are. He enjoys teaching the material, and it really shows in how he talks. The papers are somewhat difficult.
Very good professor. He knows what he is teaching and makes it interesting. On-line quizzes a pain, but if you do the readings they aren't so bad.
I had to drop this class cause I've never been so bored in my life. He knows his stuff but that doesn't mean he makes it interesting. Also, it's a 100 level class, as an upperclassman, I had more important classes to focus on besides my gen ed, and he doesn't seem to recognize that or have sympathy.
He has a brain the size of Texas, and he expects you to have the same knowledge he does, which is irritating. He's a funny guy and tells jokes, but he repeatedly tried to talk over the other prof. He knows his stuff, but the online quizzes can be rough and his comments on essays scathing.
AWESOME proff. I didn't think he was hard at all and got easy As on map quizzes and essays. Maybe it's cause I think Ancient Greece is interesting, but I really enjoyed the class. Proff very easy to work with, willing to help students, gives make-up quizes for extra credit, and takes drafts of papers
Unbelievable knowledge of greek grammar and etymology. More than willing to help in any way necessary. Expects a lot out of his students, but if you put in the work, it's more than worth it.
Very humorous, he has the ability to make any topic interesting.
Pazdernik is so hot right now...
Great professor. I could see how some say he is boring, but he kept me interested. Can be quite funny during lectures. Does expect a decent amount out of students, but this isn't high school... Very helpful when it came time for paper writing. Seems to check his email every 5 seconds, which is an amazing help.
He definitely knows his stuff, but he gets mad when nobody answers his questions. There's 2 profs in this class, and he is always interrupting and talking almost the entire time. Very helpful when papers are due. Go to office hours!
He is a very intelligent professor, but he expects you to be at the level that he is at. He tries his best to help, and overall deserves commemoration for his intelligence. Class isn't so interesting, but he's a nice guy.
he is an excellent professor and will help with any questions. he is highly intelligent and very knowledgeable on the topics he teachs. but he grades well according to the course level. he keeps the class very intresting and has a very witty sense of humor. excellent class to take if you want to learn. if you do the assigned readings and attend cla
SO helpful during paper time, especially if you go talk to him during office hours. really nice, but drones on during lecture. really knows his stuff though! the only problem is that he continually interrupts the other prof (the class is dual taught) and often talks for the entire two hours.
He's a very patient professor who REALLY knows his stuff. Even if you get frustrated with Greek, he won't get frustrated with you. Sometimes he gets a little carried away with technical grammatical details, but that's only because he loves his subject matter! Good prof.
Brilliant! Makes learning Greek (dare I say) rather painless! He goes SO far out of his way to help his students (e.g. course blogs), and is really passionate about the subject. Consequently, he is a FANTASTIC professor to have. Quite inspiring. He also has a good sense of humor, which is an added benefit. You can't go wrong with Pazdernik!
Pazdernik is a great professor.
Smart guy and likes what he is teaching, but it's still incredibly boring. He just kind of drones on and doesn't make very clear points. Lots of tedious quizzes and work required for something you probably won't care about.
Incredibly boring!!! Believe the comments on here when they say he is very informative, very factual, but incredibly boring! Expect to read a crap ton, you will get five books for this class and they'll all be read through completely with the exception of one.
This professor was funny at times, but you never really could get a clear answer out of him when asking him a question about an assignment. There is a lot, and I mean A LOT of reading to do in his Greek Civilization class. He is a nice guy, and he is very clear and concise. He teaches very well.
He is a nice guy and he knows a LOT about what he's teaching, but a lot of his knowledge is lost in his wording.I found myself having to translate what he says into more understandable terms and I know I wasn't the only one.Expect a LOT of reading, at least around 40 pages per night, every night, added to the papers and tests.
This guy expects way too much out of students. He needs to remember it is and intro class. You get readings everynight, and take online quizzes on the readings. His midterm and final are written but he grades fairly hard. He is very picky with papers and grades them tough. He is a smart knowledgable guy, just expects way too much.
I absolutely love Roman History and I dropped this class. That bad.
First, and most importantly DO NOT take this class as a gen ed unless you are a freshman or sophomore with time on your hands. I received an A in this class because I did the reading (which I have never has so much of in any class), and I paid attnetion (which is hard). He expects way to much for a 100 level class, but he has good intentions.
Roman Law was a fun class, but difficult
I really enjoy taking this class. P-man is a great guy. The lectures are somewhat boring but he has a few good jokes up his sleeve. He does require a lot of work to be put in and expects a lot out of you but if you're interested in the class, which it is a very interesting class, then i would suggest taking it. He's a good professor.
He was a pretty cool guy but his lectures were extremely boring. He doesn't really give advice on papers but he questions what you wrote in a way that makes you really have to think about what you're writing. He was pretty understanding when people didn't do the reading but that doesn't mean you shouldn't do it. Lectures are based heavily on books.
Very enjoyable professor. Easy-going and really understands and loves what he teaches. Tough at grading papers. He will help you, but not by giving you the answers. He will really make you think and make your own connections from the readings. Lots of reading! He's unpredictable, and we had clss outside several times on nice days. Awesome professor
Absolutely brilliant. Completely in tune with the what students know - what material has been presented - at all times. One of the best instructors I've ever seen.
Pazdernik is really cool. He makes jokes and keep things interesting. Extremely knowledgeable about his subject. There was a lot of reading for this class and in order to know what's going on you have to do it. He's pretty helpful if you ask but he doesn't just give out answers, you have to come to them on your own.
Excellent professor, with a superb grasp of the material, less so a grasp of time, though he's learning... READ THE BOOKS. ALWAYS. He also is willing to help out when you're writing papers, and yes, one of his shoulders is higher than the other. This is a professor for Honors students who like quality teaching and no silly handouts.
My favorite Professor that I've had in college so far. He really cares about getting to know his students and seeing them succeed. The class is challenging; there is a lot of reading and writing but it is honors. Go to office hours as often as you can, he is patient and extremely helpful. Paz is passionate about what he teaches and it shows.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS, especially not as a gen ed. He expects way to much for a 100 level class. His lectures are boring, despite the topic being interesting. His assignment directions are vague and confusing, and the assignments themselves are tedious and non-beneficial in the long run. Class is boring and mandatory, and I had to buy 6 books.
I would not recommend this class to anyone unless you enjoy learning about the subject. The professor is a nice man, but his class is very boring and it's not helpful especially if classics is not your major. I think that he forgets that it is a 100 level class and that not many people enroll just for their GenEd.
He is a great guy and he means well, but there is a lot of work to do in his class. The essays were tricky to write about. If you read you will be fine.
Very funny & easy to talk to and ask questions to. He is very educated in classics and is passionate about sharing his knowledge.
Make sure you keep up with the textbook and the online quizzes. Also make sure you email if you are going to be absent so your absence is excused.
Reading questions and quizzes due before class, but he's an understanding guy if you're respectful.
He is a very nice guy, would be great to maybe chill with but his teaching methods make no sense. He makes you read 30 pages every day from some random ancient Greek article and expects you to answer multiple questions online and submit it for participation as well as marks for attendance.
This guy is awful. 100 level classes are intended to spur interest in a subject, perhaps even teach a few core concepts. Instead Charles teaches this class as if it is a graduate level course, expecting not a surface level understanding, but rather an in depth (even philosophical) comprehension of everything. Horrible, avoid unless you hate your gp
He makes the class fairly interesting, as it's a discussion based class. There are about 4 projects which are the only thing you are graded on. I didn't do any of the reading, and it only came back to bite me a couple of times, as participation isn't mandatory. He's a pretty knowledgeable guy and cares about his students.
Pazdernik was truly a great professor! He helped me when I was struggling and he seems to truly care about his students. So long as you actually try, he'll be understanding. If you like learning about ancient Greece... TAKE HIM! The quizzes are very straightforward and easy and the papers(2) are cake if you leave yourself time. He's there to help!
Regardless of your major, Pazdernik is a great professor. The lectures can get really monotonous but he is a genuine guy, with multiple degrees from many ivy league schools. If you ever need help he is extremely helpful in his office hours.
This class is easy as long as youre willing to do the readings. There is one exam and if you dont read you wont do well. Quizzes are online and super easy.
Professor Pazdernik is lecture-heavy. A lot of class was listening to him go over readings from the textbook. However, they were interesting lectures and if you're interested in the Greek culture, it is a good course to take to fulfill a general education requirement. Very willing to work with you as long as you reach out to him and truly cares.
Hardest 100 level class I have experienced. 3 hard papers and an impossibly hard test (he did curve it). Lots of hard quizzes that you need to do reading to be prepared for. These ancient Greek names and terms sound like stds and are nearly impossible to remember. You will lose points for unexcused absences.
One of the hardest 100 level classes. If you have no previous knowledge on greek mythology/civilizations you will not pass. Class is based on 3 papers and a test. Tests are extremely difficult. Very nice professor, cares about his students, the content of the class is hard to grasp.
Dr. Pazdernik is an amazing professor and is very knowledgeable about what he teaches. He cares about his students a lot and is very thorough with his explanations. That being said, the class is very heavy on reading and papers, but the role-playing game is pretty fun. Honestly, if you do the reading and go to office hours, you're good.
Paz is THE MAN. He is such a good guy and will push you to do your absolute best in everything that you do. If you have him for honors you will 100% build a relationship with him. He is very easy to talk to and just reach out to if you need help. He will tear your paper apart, but grades very fair.
Paz is the best. He is very passionate about the material of his classes and will give proper feedback on papers. I had him for my freshman sequence and he is very accommodating to his students. We literally told him at one point that we were not prepared to turn in a paper and he extended the deadline for us. Very easygoing and funny. We loved him
hands down the hardest 100 level class I have ever taken. If you have no prior greek civ knowledge you will not pass. long, monotonous lectures that are very confusing, but he does know what he is talking about. very nice guy, hard subject matter, probably wouldn't take again because I prefer discussion rather than lecture. be prepared to work.
An amazing teacher! Full of knowledge and you can tell he really loves teaching and informing others on his speciality. I took his honors Worlds of Greece and Rome class, a lot of reading outside of class. But Dr. Paz was engaged with students and always open for conversation! A little slow with getting grades back but tended to grade generously.
Dr. Paz is truly the pinnacle of a professor. He is very caring and actually understand his students, yet other days he completely destroys your papers with his grading. Always actually read the text, things make a lot more sense when you read the books.
I had Paz for WOGAR. SO much reading. Every class was a lecture, but oftentimes the students didn't participate because they didn't know if questions were rhetorical or not. Each project was like 20-25% of your grade, and I didn't know the majority of my grades until after the semester was over. Easy to reach outside of class though!
Don't take this professor. We turned in a paper two weeks into the semester and he didn't grade it until 3 weeks before the semester ended (it was a big grade too). If he doesn't have time to grade papers, he shouldn't assign them. He was very unclear on what he wanted with assignments but he was also forgivable with his grading.
Great professor! Really enjoyed his class overall, and the lectures were all very helpful. Would definitely take this course or another where he teaches again.
Professor Paz is a straight up dawg. He's a great Professor who cares about his students and truly goes out of his way to make you feel appreciated. As long as you participate in class he will love you as a student. Also his grading for honors is very lenient. Also Professor P is always straight up swaggy every day he's dripped out
He's a great professor and I really enjoyed taking his class! Would definitely recommend taking classes where he teaches.
Dr. Pazdernik had to step in for my class as my former professor was out for the semester. His lectures are good and very informative, he connects all of his lectures to the readings. Readings are crucial before you come to class everyday as that is the expectation, however his grading criteria and assignments were very easy and straightforward.
I loved having this professor. He works at your pace and will not make you feel bad if you do not understand something. His teaching style is incredibly effective. He does take a while to return tests and assignments, but other than that he was great.
He was my favorite professor. He was so funny and engaging about everything but you do have to read. They aren't that long and books are cheap but they can be difficult to understand. We did a roleplaying game where each person acted as a roman senator for half the class which was a lot of fun and different. Great guy. loml.
He is very cool and good at teaching. He is always open to helping. There is a lot of reading assignments but he always has a lot to discuss and talk about in class based on them. Great class.
We always thoroughly discussed the readings, so even if something was confusing he would explain it in a way that made even just a little more sense. Very caring both in and outside of class-- you could tell that he wanted what was best for every student.
