Unclear about everything
Nice guy, kind of funny. Gives info rapidly, asks for examples before one fully understands concepts. Lots of silences while waiting for volunteers. Lectures are confusing have to use textbook for clarification.
Worst teacher i have ever had, very unclear, boring, and talks a lot about irrevlanet issues. Don't bother taking or using lecture notes, read the book. Only go if you need the quiz points, otherwise it is a waste of time.
What can I say? This is one of the most disorganized classes I have ever been in. Awful lectures with no relation to the lab, every day that I spent in that wretched class was time well wasted.
He has no clue what he is talking about. The lecture has nothing to do with the lab. It was a waste of my time. People only attend class to take the quizzes.
Overall a good professor. He is a little quirky but he gets his message across.
Pope is dificult to understand and doesn't go over the material very well...All of a sudden the midterm comes and you know nothing.
This guy is not a good proffesor at all. He confuses me to no end and goes on on pointless ramblings all class. And it is so boring in there i just don't want to go, but you have to because you never know when there's gonna be a quiz. And personally, I think he makes the material to hard. Even my AI's said it was advanced stuff.
This guy is okay but the lecture is pointless because all he does is talk about things that dont matter. He will give u an pop up quiz so make sure u go to all the lectures because they count for big things. Also this guy and his AI's are terrible just save your scores because he will screw you up!!!
His lecture was rediculous. Its hard to follow and its a bunch of useless information. I ended up dropping it because it was such a huge waste of time. Even the lab teacher said she thought some of the material was stupid.
You must attend lecture because you have a pop quiz almost every time. Also he is horrible with emailing you back. I emailed him like a week ago and he still hasn't responded.
Lectures are completely useless, but gives pop quizzes quite often. Labs are also just as useless as they do not give any information useful for the assignments. Assignments are usually not clear and the information is not given for you to complete without obtaining help. Funny and nice guy, just not a very organized class.
Very easy! Lab is somewhat laborious, and if you don't understand something, Pope will normally cover everything in the lecture. I highly recommend going to lecture. He gives so many extra bonus points to people who go to lecture. I have 40 extra credit points!
Unless you have someone who took K201 helping you, I recommend avoiding this class. Pope is nearly incomprehensible, and the material taught in lecture has nothing to do with what is taught in lab. I only did well in the class because I had someone helping me outside of class with the lab homework. However, the lecture exams are very easy.
Pope is a nice guy and gives an oppurtunity for nearly 80 points of extra credit, there are pop quizes, I went to lecture once a month and lab the day an assignment was due and got an A, the only thing that is difficult is building a website as long as you can use a computer you'll be fine.. The TA's are all geniues so ask them questions
Pope is probably one of the nicest teachers I have ever had. He remembers who students are even though he has about 600 of them just in A110.
He assumes we know more then we actually do. Wouldn't suggest him to anyone.

His lectures are witty and funny. He is easy to listen to. The AIs do A LOT of teaching as well.
Extremely funny, easy class. Just pay attention and go to office hours if you need help. I worked up a good Pope impression that is fun to use at parties.
Appears like it will be hard, but it is a great class. Always help available. He's a great prof. so fun! Gives a ton of Extra Credit to make up your grade! Must attend all lectures & labs though! Clear expectations, you learn a lot!
Great professor! He does assume that you know more than what you do, but also helps a lot. The labs can be difficult if you don't go and listen to explanations for things. Gives out plenty of extra credit for going to lecture. It's hard to not get an A in this class.

I didn't enjoy this class very much even though I got an A+ in it. There were way too many assignments. If you don't have an interest in computer programming it will be a long boring run with lots of frustrations because Pope's unorganized teaching style can be frustrating.
Pretty cool guy. Some of his sentences/lecture examples don't really make sense but he was def. entertaining.
Easy to get an A. Go to class because it makes everything easy. Lots of extra credit opportunities. Lectures are not really helpful, but he is really funny. Must go because there is a quiz every time. Learned a lot and didn't need outside experience with computers to do well. My favorite class last semester.
Delightfully odd
His lectures are pretty screwball and don't really make much sense in relation to the rest of the course. Easy class though, especially if you attend lecture although you may find that it's not always worth it.

lecture is pointless. lab sessions are fine, and the class would be much better if there was no lecture. i can say i learned nothing from pope in the lecture, or at least a very little bit. and, pope makes you buy the book he authors, and you can't sell it back because they use a new edition each semester.
Pope is really funny and a little kooky, but his class is a waste of time. The lab portion is helpful and interesting, but then you go to his lecture and he talks about things not even relating to computers. We have to buy this really expensive book and he barely teaches out of it and then gives impossible tests. I like him, not his class.

Easy! Barely understandable- but you still end up with a good grade. He practically gives you the answers for the tests. I wish I could take this class again. Rarely need to attend
Pope is great- I took the class as a gpa booster and it turned into a major changer. He helped me get interested in CS and I thank him for that
This class is far to frustrating for a 100 level class. Lectures are pointless, but necessary for quiz points. Lab assignments are extremely hard if you don't have prior knowledge of things like building a website and Excel. All this aside, you end up with a good grade. He gives tons of extra credit because everyone would fail if he didn't
I loved this class. I had absolutely no prior knowledge of anything taught in the class and I learned a lot and it was fun and relatively easy too. Lots of extra credit put me at a 106%.
If you do what you are supposed too, you should easily get about a 95%. The class was so dumb though

This class is not exciting by any means, but for most people who have to take it, Pope is a really nice guy who is willing to give lots of extra credit and will help his students as long as they ask. Also, he has a lot of help desk TA's who walked me through almost all of the assignments.
wow this class was a breeze. the professor is hilarious during his lecture, and I thought he was really cute and had a nice sense of style. lots of extra credit and if you just do the assignments, you're good to go. the only way you can fail this class is if you totally blow it off.
If you do the work for this class there is NO reason you shouldn't at least get an A-...unless you have a tough/picky AI for lab section, then u may have to try a little harder. U dont need to buy the txtbook unless u wanna use it to study for the final. Pope is a funny guy, but going to lecture isnt always worth it...go anyway bc quizzes r random
Pope is hilarious! He makes dry lectures more bearable. Class is pretty easy as long as you do the work. Don't skip lectures though cause the quizzes are given randomly.
Pope is entertaining and knows his stuff! He moves kind of quick in labs but he is very helpful. Admittedly, I have a thing for gingers, but I also think he's pretty gosh darn adorable.

The class is poorly organized, there's no communication between professor and AIs and lab/lecture never relate. I had no idea what he was talking about half the time and I've taken advanced computer courses. He gives a lot of extra credit though. Easy class if you have someone to clarify the lab work.
Pope is a nice guy and his lectures are definitely entertaining. He makes a lot of jokes about socks and other silly things. However, Pope is a Grade A rambler. Don't go into his office hours expecting a short appointment. He will turn a 5 min question into a 30 minute one. Overall, he is a really nice professor but his class for sure isnt easy.
Genuinely nice, funny guy. It's almost impossible to listen to him without laughing multiple times. He has a really good personality and it is clear that he wants his students to enjoy the class. Intro to computers and computing required a lot of work, but if you get it done, you won't get anything less than an A.

This class is easy if you complete the weekly assignments and pay attention in lecture. Lectures contain humor and either relate to the lab or textbook. Pope is a very friendly professor and wants all his students to succeed. Tests are almost entirely out of the textbook and I found them incredibly simple. Lots of extra credit too!
As others said, the lectures are pointless. However, he does offer most of the extra credit in lecture. The labs are the most important part. DO NOT buy the textbook!! It is a waste of money, just use the eText when you buy the access code!
Lectures are boring, but you should go anyway because he randomly gives out quizzes you can do in groups and lots of extra credit. The labs have busy work, but if you go to class then you can finish it and never have homework. Very easy class as long as you do the lab work. He gives study guides with vocab words that are all on the test.
Lectures can be a little long at times, but his personality does well to keep it fun. Come to class as he gives instructions for a couple assignment and Ex. Cred. Lab is twice a week and much of the homework can be done at home able to skip more than 13 of the labs. Great intro for K-201 Book needed for online code

Lecture is long and boring. You do not need the book just the access code. Labs are easy for the most part. Pope sucks at emailing back.

Almost every single one of your assignments are done in lab with student teachers. The work is doable. It gets way easier as it goes on. However, lectures with Pope are a bit hard to sit through. He's nice, but also hard to follow sometimes. I hardly attended lectures, and this did not prove to be a problem at all. Prepare to review the text alone.

Two labs a week and no homework if you get it done in lab. Lectures are boring but he gives a lot of extra credit and sometimes quizzes. If you miss a lecture he lets you go to one on another day. Exams are kind of difficult if you don't pay attention in lecture.
Very easy class. There is now way you should not get an A if you do the extra credit. The lectures are not mandatory but there are random facts in lectures that are on the exams.

The description of the class says you don't need any prior experience to do this class, but if you haven't done Python before, you won't have clue what's going on. Not even sure what the point of this class is. The homeworks are confusing and there are a lot of them. Too much work and too confusing for 100-level, non-major course. Hated this class.
Pope is a great teacher and is willing to help. If you participate (many don't) he will know you by name and often engage with you making the class experience significantly better. He can be quirky however Pope is a very enjoyable lecturer. Most of the substance is in the labs and his TAs that teach these are generally good as well.
Pope is an amazing guy and unless you completely dont care about the class then you can expect to earn a good grade.
Hes a really nice guy, but his lectures are pretty boring. That being said, I have little interest in computer science and just took this class for a GenEd/major requirement so maybe thats why I didnt like it. I typically didnt pay attention in class but was able to get Bs on the midterm and final by studying a quizlet online.

Hes great! The reviews here are hard on his lectures, & they are boring (sorry prof!), but only because he goes over a lot of stuff we learn in lab. Lots of cool info tho. Only lab attendance is mandatory. So much extra credit, you could probably skip an exam if u felt like it. He cares about students & goes the extra mile to help out w grades!
This was my first computer class, and I had no previous knowledge of html/excel/access. This class was overall enjoyable and interesting. Professor Pope gives a lot of extra credit. The material isn't difficult to learn if you go to the labs, and spend a little bit of outside time working on the class. I highly recommend this course!
Pope is probably the best college professor Ive ever had. Hes hilarious and super chill. Attendance isnt required but it really helps to go to the labs because you can easily finish your work there and during lectures he often gives you answers to the upcoming quizzes. He offers like twenty separate assignments for extra credit so do them.
He is the best professor I have had so far. And after taking his class I applied to be a TA for it and it is so fun. Great class and great teacher.

Professor was extremely difficult to follow during lectures; he did not stay on topic and never knew the lecture schedule. My lab instructors were not prepared to help when issues arose.
If you need to fulfill your mathematical science Gen Ed this is the class to take. I skipped most of the lectures and often did the same with the lab. The material is easy to learn on your own and there are online materials or in person labs if you get stuck. He also gives ALOT of very easy extra credit.
Professor Pope is funny and wants to see his students do well in class. He gives tons of extra credit so you really will have to try to get anything below an A grade. Quite often, his lab instructors are not prepared at all to help students. The tests are very easy assuming you know the basics and also include extra credit within them.
Took a class about projects in professionalism for my internship and Professor Pope was everything but professional. Would delete assignments after turning in, or right before the due date after I already spent time doing it. Ignores emails worse than any Professor I've ever had. He may be fun and great in class, for internship credit it's a waste
Professor Pope is a good guy who wants his students to do well. He gives a lot of extra credit throughout the semester and even though lectures can be boring, he sometimes gives homework and quiz answers in class. TAs aren't much help, but the class material isn't that bad as I did fine even with no prior experience with anything we did. Great Prof

Lecture was a non-factor in the class, he just waffles about stuff that you won't need. I didn't go to class after the first week. The labs are where you learn everything needed to succeed which are taught by TA's. Has so much extra credit that I could've Skipped the last exam and still got an A. If you take the class, Skip the lectures.
Hes pretty cool. I didnt go to like half of the classes but managed to pull through with a A- in the class. Just do the homework and you will do good. You might have to teach yourself some concepts but he usually does the homework with you in class if you go. Great guy just show up sometimes and you'll pass

Professor Pope does not fully comprehend that no one is as interested in the content as he is, but once in a blue moon he'd offer important information. The lab component of the class is much better.
This is one of the easiest courses I have taken. I have barely gone to any of the lectures but the labs are super important because the TAs teach basically everything that is on the projects and tests. The amount of extra credit he offers should be illegal, so I really don't see how anyone could get below an A as long as you go to the labs.
Don't have to go to lecture, but MUST go to labs. Learned so much and did very well. Class is ran by TA's. Need to pay attention to do well, but doesn't take a lot of effort. SO much extra credit offered and final/midterm were online. I recommend.
Not bad content wise, but the assignments are rigorous and super time consuming. If you follow him in class they won't be as bad but just beware. Not worth it to take for a 100 level.
The class moves way too fast and nothing is fully explained because he continues to cram in so much information when people are still confused about the first lesson.
Great professor, lots of extra credit
I ended with a 102.96% in the class when I got a 26% on the first lab test. Guys, this class is a no-brainer. Just go to the labs.
Honestly, many (if not all) of the lectures are skippable, but if you do show up, he does try to make it fun. You HAVE to go to the labs, as a majority of the content is learned there. Insane amount of extra credit, no need to worry about point missed. Overall, course content is pretty simplistic, but HW can get heavy early on, but it tapers off.
Charles Pope was one of favorite professors! I'm mad he doesn't have a universal 5/5!. He's the BEST! and gives extra credit and answers on the 100% online final. If you like anything politics/computing then the lectures are interesting, though kinda useless. The labs are where you learn vital stuff: HTML, excel, Acess, Word. It helped w k201 too.!
Pope was great. If you show up to class easy A, just follow his work on the board. Fun to try new things in computing. attendance wasn't mandatory, but it helps with assignments. Would take him again!
The lectures aren't really worth going to, but the labs teach you all the information you need to know. The amount of extra credit available is insane and it makes this class an easy A. The HTML part of the class can be challenging, but everything gets easier from there.
