Very tough, but good professor; more emphasis on personal finance

Good teacher. Has an agenda and sticks to it. Teaches exactly what is going to be on the test! If you have any trouble understanding the material you can call him anytime and he will explain it until you understand it!

Dr. Smith is a great teacher, he goes over the problems many times if you don't understand,the best way to do good in his class is review notes, and come to class. Ohh one more thing...is it me or he kinda looks like President Bush Jr. :)

Dr. Smith is an excellent finance instructor. Anyone beginning in the field of finance should definately take him. He is not easy, but is challenging. You will know the financial calc. by heart once you leave his class. Always available.

he doesnt give you the formulas for the test, which other professors do... he's a good teacher, but you must attend class, take good notes, and practice the problems

Good guy, doesn't really teach much. Wait for him to put examples on the board to learn the material. Pretty easy once you get the hang of it.

He is a good teacher. Keeps things relating to terms you can understand.

If you take him, make sure study all the example on the board, don't waste your time too much to read the book. I bought the book but I haven't look at it during the semester. His final came from the tests and exactly the same but just change the number.

I really enjoyed his class. The project was not hard and if you did it you got all of the points. the test are okay. just make sure you know the simple 6 and you will do great.

Took during Summer II. Good teacher and I learned a lot about the financial world. Tells stories that go with the lecture. Exams are not hard as long as you take good notes. Did not really go through the book;just took good notes. I recommend him.

If you like stories that have to do with everyday finance decisions take this professor. Was helpful when you need to talk to him. If you are good in math I would take him he likes for most of the test to be problems.

He was an excellent prof. While he taught from a provided textbook, he related everything to 'real world' experiences, which made the class much more interesting. He is very charismatic and easy to get along with. He will help you out as much as he can

Good teacher, experiecned with finance world. Lots of story goes with the class. Tests are easy if take good notes of the class only, not much to study in the book. No curve or replace gades. You earn what you learned.

You won't be sorry if you take Prof. Smith. He's a good teacher plus he tells interesting stories, & has a sense of humor. Practice the problems he shows in class. Don't concentrate too much on the book, in fact, buy an old version, it's cheaper. Memorize the lists he gives in class. Don't go slow on the exams you may run out of time. STUDY!

Take good notes and practice problems on board. Learn basic concepts to solve problems.Practice them&you are most likely to pass his 1st exam.2nd exam he goes all over the book without having an idea what to study for-A lot of terminology.His so called reviews B4 exams don’t really help.Very Knowledgeable,optimistic man who will motivate U 2do ur best.

Dr Smith is a very good professor who knows his stuff. You cannot expect to pass this class without studying the information he gives you. He explains it more than once if needed. He tries his best to make sure the students do well. If you learn the basics at the beginning, you will do well. This is not an easy class....

This class is interesting and not difficult with many real-world applications. Dr. Smith has a wealth of knowledge about the subject and enjoys sharing his personal experiences with the class. Good teacher - fun class. Do the homework and you'll be fine.

Prof. Smith does go off topic alot and his students are expected to teach themselves basically because he does not lecture on points that the test will detail.(left in the dark) He takes random attendance so if you are not there that one day he will penalize you.

WONDERFUL teacher. You can reach him 24/7 he is very punctual in returning phone calls. He is very helpful. He is extremely organized. He is fantastic . I failed his first test but i ended up with a B in the class. Please do take him. He knows what he is talking about. Excellent Professor.

A must take. i have taken Dr. Charles for three classes now and im about to take summer school with him. i personally think his teaching are really coming from personal experiences, which to me makes a difference between a professor that is book smart and a professor that is real world smart. Intimidating professor at first but once you make it through the first test everything else is easy. Professor Smith lets you know exactly what will be on each exam. Great professor.

I don't know how to rate this guy... If I didn't worry about the grade part, I'd take him again. Big Liberal. Can be funny. Teaches you real life lessons. Only drawback are those dang hard tests. all fill in the blank. Learned a lot from a project that we did at the end of the semester.

Prof. Smith was an interesting instructor. I don't really know how to rate him; I got an A in the class, but his fill in the blank tests were quite difficult. I do not believe I would take this prof. again since his class lectures were more like motivational speeches rather than finance lectures.

He's awesome! Some students don't understand why he is giing advice in a finance class, but his advice truly does have everything to do with the subject matter. Listen to what he tells you. Believe me..everything he says is extrememly helpful. Study what he tells you to study and you should be fine. I highly recommend him!

I normally don?t rate professor but I had to for Professor Smith. ?Awesome professor?, He is a funny and keeps the material interesting and that is something that professors don?t know how to. You will learn his material before the semester is over.

In my opinion, Professor Smith was a great! He definitely was different from any of the professors I've taken.(In a good way) Not only does he take the time to teach you the material, you actually learn it! he will make sure of that! He does take class time for life lessons and experiences, but for me it was worth hearing! I would take him again!!

Does he talk politics? yes. Does he go out of the text book? no. Are you held accountable for information outside of class? yes. Does he tell you what's going to be on the test? yes (you just have to go and find it). does he keep the class interesting, entertaining and rooted in the REAL WORLD? yes! i would take him again at every opportunity.

Professor Smith want you to succeed in life. He's more focused on the fundamental but practical financial principles. Tests are easy if you study, hard if you dont study. Great personality.

This professor rocks, he gets really sidetracked sometimes but teaches you what you need to know for tests. Do the work, practice and attend 1 or 2 of his tutoring sessions and you will pass with an A! :-)

He didnt grade very hard his examples he used in class were the same ones he used every semester and he liked to tell alot of stories. in the end, I still remember what I learned in his class and have been able to apply it professionally. I took his summer class and called him the Friday before the test. He was working in LA and stopped to help!!

Dr. Smith really cares about his students. He is not only trying to teach you about Finance but also about life in general. Some of his advice is very helpful and he is super funny! You will have to study for his class though. Exams are not easy. So practice, practice every little thing! Other than that, I would recommend Dr. Smith :)

By far the best professor I have had at UHD. You will learn in this class. Read the terms he asks you to read and practice the problems using your HP10bII and you will do well on his exams. His life stories are funny but take up majority of class time. Doesn't work complex problems in class but they're on the test. MUST know Ch 5 throughly. Exam 1 most difficult but if you work the chapter problems at least 10 time each then you'll do fine. He tells you exactly what's on the test. If you study then easy A. KNOW CHAPTER 5!!!!!!

Do not buy the book! He does not use the new versions of the book he has a few that he will let people borrow they are older versions. Know chapter 5! Attendecne is mandatory for an A. He tells you excatly whats on the test. Make an A on the final and you'll get an A in the class. Learn how to use the calculator and know key terms. Easy A.

For me,this class is a big YES.He will teach hybrid class next semester so you only need to go to class 1 a week and just need to watch his videos which are very helpful.If you keep practice, it's easy.But if you don't,you will regret.He will answer your questions right away.I love this class.Watching his videos is enough to pass this class with A

I got a D in his class. Real down to earth professor, very funny guy. His class is tough though. I was actually shock to see I got a D. He does check role which account for 10% of your grade. Test are hard.

Great Professor who teaches and explains the material well. He has online videos and test problems come from problems he works in class and on the videos. He counts attendance so go to class, also gives real world advice. Ended up with a B in the class with little studying, had I studied more I'm sure I would of made an A. Take HIM!

This was a hybrid class. The instructor would record videos and upload them to blackboard. Everything was relatively clear, except that he would tell us to find something in the book, but he didn't know where in the book that it was, or which version, that part was very unclear. His videos were excellent, he explained things very well.

Finance is not an easy class, but professor smith does his best to inform you of what to expect. He teaches you things that you will carry on through the next set of classes. On top of that he teaches you life lessons and keeps the atmosphere light and enjoyable. Take him if you can, everyone needs a little Smith in their lives.

Professor Smith's Finance 3302 class can be very easy, if you put the time in! He provides videos online that are EXTREMELY helpful! If you watch the videos and work the problems, you will do well. I made an A in the class. He keeps the class interesting. He is extremely knowledgeable and helpful.

Great Professor, this was a summer hybrid class, which was intense, BUT if you study, watch the videos,AND read CH. 5 you will be set. He took the time, not only to teach us finance but how to be better people. Highly recommend the class!

Most classes are very fast past. Its hard to keep notes while trying to comprehend the material. Mr. Smith is amazing!! He has videos (short clips)that are remarkable and explain the material to a T. It's a wonderful feeling to understand the assignments.

Smith is awesome, look at all his videos in order and you will do great in his class! Only 1 homework assignment 3 exam which includes comprehensive final. Exams are the same problems from the videos. I would recommend him!

This guy is great! By far one of the best professors UHD has hands down. It is a MUST that you watch his videos and take notes if you wish to pass. The videos are 100% spot on and cover the test perfectly. His class is a bit AA but you learn to accept it all at the end. Great Professor and great class. only 3 test and a quick HW assignment.

Professor Smith was a very down to earth guy. He tells you information to help you in the future. Has videos for all test that you MUST watch in order to pass the test. 3 test, 1 HW assignment, and checks attendance. Only probably was he does not really go over problems in class unless they are asked. Overall he was a good teacher.

Professor Smith's class has been interesting. Prior to taking this class I did not care about finance but now I'm even thinking about changing majors. His videos are very helpful. I wish all professors had videos for their classes like this professor. The material requires effort but overall I would recommend this professor.

Fin 3302 is not easy but Professor Smith is an amazing teacher! He has videos over every test... watch them! Seriously! If you do that, you can make an "A" in his class. 3 test and a homework assignment. He gives out his cell number and you can call him when your lost on a problem. You'll learn more than just Finance, you'll learn a lot about life!

Dr. Smith is by far one of the best teaches at UHD. He knows the material and just watch all the videos before each exams and you will do good. 3 exams 1 easy one page paper an that's it plus 10 points for attendance. VIDEO VIDEO VIDEO because everything is in the videos.

Awesome Professor.Just WATCH VIDEOS. All you need for the test is on VIDEOS. Chapter 5 is the most important for test 1. Final is easy if you study. I made only 5 point for test 1 and 17 for test 2 but 30/30 for final test. Don't be sad if you failed only 1 test. Like he said "Nothing is fun until you good at. Nobody knows what you can do"

I thought Charles Smith was a very good professor. He tells you what you need to know for the tests. He posts videos showing how to work the problems online. If you have any questions, he will make sure he answers them. Make you sure you show up to class, and WATCH THE VIDEOS!!!

Extremely helpful. We called him during a study session with questions. Not only did he answer and immediately answer our questions he even called back a hour later to make sure we fully understood. Listen to his hints. buy last years edition, you'll be ok.

Prof. Smith is very helpful for students. He told us everything which will be on the test. Just watch his videos and memorize a few concepts that he told us in the class. Easy A with extra points for exam 1 and 2. By the way, if you get A in the final, you will get A at last no matter how bad you did in test 1 and 2.

This professor is amazing, very helpful, always available over the phone, his videos will help you get an A in exams, all you have to do is watch them and study a few concepts from the book, not much reading required at all. Compared to the work load of other classes this is an extremely easy class. He's always willing to answer any question!

Teacher gives you videos to watch that covers his test. In addition, he provides practice test and the practice test are VERY similar to the actual test. If you get the practice test, you will get the real test.. Very helpful and very funny person, keeps you entertained. Watch the videos and practice and you should get a very good grade.

I know I'll get a good grade; however, I kind of wish I would have actually learned more. If you watch the videos and memorize the practice tests you will do well.

Dr. Smith makes Finance class look easy. His tests are mostly from the videos. Make sure you take notes while watching the video. Also learn how to download the videos on Firefox using some extension so that you can watch the videos offline, anytime, anywhere. It's an easy A if you watch all the videos and take notes. His reviews are very helpful.

If you don't pass this class then you have no one to blame but yourself. Dr. Smith makes finance interesting and even has me thinking about changing my major to Finance. He gives you all the tools you need for review. No reason not to make an A in this class.

Professor Smith, was the nicest professor that I've had at UHD. I think I got a C in the class, but I'm the one to blame for studying an hour before each test. Do the homework assigned and watch videos, and you will get a good grade!!

I took Pro. Smith in Spring/2014, there were 4 exams and a one question for the final. He gave all the work problem in written and by watching his video. The video is very helpful because you can always go backward. I had fun in the class because he is very hyper. Just watch the video and work on the problems that he gives you, you will do good.

The dumbest thing you will do is not watching all the videos. This is THE EASIEST class if you watch the videos and do your homework. It isn't too time consuming but it does require dedication. The teacher is amazing and VERY VERY V.E.R.Y. helpful. I would have gotten an A if i had just followed the advice i'm giving you.

VERRRY helpful and easy teacher. If you watch all the videos and do the homework you will understand material. HE is available by phone if you dont understand anything. Will tell you what buttons to press on the calculator to get the answer. If you understand the H/W you will understand the tests. Some questions from HW are even on the test.

Excellent Prof. Watching the videos did make the class eaier if you have the time to watch them. About 30 videos, 12-90 min long each. He basically teaches from the videos. If you don't have time to watch them don't take this course. Read the book even thought it doesn't require it. And make sure you practice calculator steps daily!

This was my third time taking this class and this professor is by far the best I've had. He makes the material easy to understand and the videos are very helpful. He makes the classes interesting and he gives life tips in every class which is awesome! If you watch the videos and study the study guides, you should make a passing grade.

Amazing professor. It's not an easy class, but if you watch his videos and take notes as you watch, you will definitely pass his class. He seems to really care about his students' success. Took the hybrid class. Inspirational, tough class but videos are online for you to watch and review, so the grade is really up to you.

very upfront and clear about what he expects from his classes. Relies on his videos to get a lot of the information across, but it is a hybrid class so expect to teach yourself. Pay attention to the videos on bb and watch them until you can't stand them. The test are just like his practice tests he posts on blackboard. He curves his test and it definitely helps your grade. There's 3 exams, a final which is a short essay, a paper and homework.

Prof Smith is a great teacher! I was wary in taking him as some comments on here were really bad, but if you watch all his videos on blackboard, take notes and practice then you should come out with a good grade. 3 Tests, 3 Homeworks & 1 easy paper, he also curves your grade. Lectures are great and gives some good life advice within them. Take him!

PRACTICE all the problems he assigns for homework. Those are the same problems you'll see on the test (just different numbers). It's a lot of videos to watch so find the time to watch them. 3 exams & a reading assignment. This will only be easy if you put in the time to do the work. The material isn't hard at all. Also, he's pretty funny.

Professor Smith is a great professor to take, the class is easy because it's a hybrid class. All you need to do to pass is look at the videos and do the practice problems. He has 3 exams and 3 homework assignments and one reading assignment. He gives little life lessons and is an entertaining professor you will not be bored in class.

He relates his problems with life lessons which help you remember the material better. 2 exams 1 final. Do your homework for credit, he does not check it, but problems are similar in the exam. See the videos, all of them, they help a bunch.

This class is easy. If you watch his required videos and work the problems he tells you to work, this class should be a piece of cake. Buy the calculator he recommends. His classes mainly consist of him talking about life lessons and working out problems.

Everything to make an A is via his videos online. Very hard grader. You better be prepared to do each test in an explicit time limit. I took in the Summer class which was my fault. Only issue was lack of time. He gives great life advise in class and goes over problems. I would take him again any day. DO NOT EXPECT TO BLOW OFF HIS CLASS AND PASS.

Great teacher. Wonderful class. Most lectures are pre recording and put on blackboard, first time learning like this. It was actually great experience. WATCH THE VIDEOS AND YOU WILL PASS THE CLASS. Really enjoyed this class. You have to put in the time to watch his videos, but without them you wont pass. He encourages students to watch them at least 3 times, watch as many times as you need.

Great professor. All you have to do to pass the class is watch his videos and do the hw assignments. He is clear with his instructions so pay attention when he is explaining what he wants. You dont need the book only when it comes to test 2 he uses examples problems from the book but even then he has it on his videos

Charles Smith is amazing! He will teach with working problems similar to what you see on his exams. He gives great personal advice and is very entertaining. If you get a chance to take him, I absolutely would and definitely work the problems on your financial calculator at the same time he is to make sure you get the same answer! Take him!!!

WATCH THE VIDEOS, I REPEAT WATCH THE VIDEOS! and also do the homework he assigns, it's more of a completion grade not if it's right or wrong. I LOVED his class he keeps your attention and you wont fall asleep in his class. I only had him once a week but the videos help a lot watch all of them! If you don't do so or do the HW don't expect to pass.

Yes he gives you videos to watch. The problems he goes over in the videos are the same problems on the test, just different numbers. you NEED to watch the videos, why? because he barely lectures in class. Going to class was seriously a waste. It's more of a therapy session than a Business Finance class.

I took this class this Spring and I would take this professor at any time. He is not easy, but he is there to help you if needed. There are three tests, the questions are exactly the same as on video's and the class lectures, three homework assignments and one paper (easy). If you practice all problems from the video and the class, it is an easy A.

One of my favorite professors of all time, truly inspirational/motivational. Watch his videos on Black Board and review the material he gives you, most of the class revolves around being able to use the Financial Calculator, but he is very clear and helpful in his videos. Wish he taught other classes, I would highly recommend.

This professor is truly awesome! He gives you all of tools you need to pass. He teaches you how to use the calculator and has videos on BB solving the problems that will be on your exam. There are 3 exams and a couple easy homework assignments. If you watch the videos and do the homework you'll make an A. If you don't, you'll fail for sure.

If you're not willing to work, don't take this class. This is by far my favorite class and professor. He pushes you to understand the information so that you're successful in life. He's a great professor. I would highly recommend to take his classes if you have to take finance classes. He has videos that are extremely helpful for the exams. The subject in general requires a lot of practice. I felt smarter just attending is classes. I am taking him again for real estate finance and if he's teaching any other finance courses.

Since I have been taking class at UHD, Dr Charles was amazing He did not only teach from the book, He talked more about his life experiences combined with class teaching which was great way of learning for the younger students. Follow what he asks in class to do and learn how to use that calculator HP10plus, you will easily pass his class .

Dr. Smith is AMAZING! He really cares about his students, very accessible outside the class, you can call him and he will work any problem with you. But you need to WATCH the videos in order to pass, punch those buttons and practice! He provides in detail what you need for the test (3 exams), 3 hw, 1 paper. Glad I'm taking him next semester.

Professor Smith is the best professor at the University of Houston-Downtown. He understands that the textbook only teaches PART of what you need in the REAL WORLD!! Dr. Smith is an incredible professor and one that I would recommend to anyone. While the work is tough, he makes it incredibly easy for you to succeed. If you put in the effort you can easily make the grade you want. Practice tests on BB are the tests themselves, but vocab is king for test 2. Study hard and you'll easily do better than me.

He is one of the best profs at UHD! He talks about real life not just finance. He gives you his personal number if you have ANY questions for him. Lots of videos online to watch, so watch them! I learned most from BB but go to class. Get the calculator he recommends and an older version of the textbook will do. 3 tests and a few hw assignments.

Prof. Smith is FANTASTIC! Truly one of he best professors I've had. I took him a few semesters ago and he gives you all of the tools you need to succeed. I got a full 100% on his exam! Watch the videos, practice the stuff he posts on BB and you should have no problem passing with an A. If you're lazy you won't get it.

In over fifty years of life this class has changed my perspective . He post videos that are extremely helpful but also gives very practical life experiences in class. I would recommend this class to everyone even if not required for your major it is that life changing. It is not easy material but if you apply yourself you will be able to pass.

Four exams, one small project. He tells you exactly what's going to be on each test, no surprises. His lectures are easy going, sometimes goes off topic but I don't mind since he gives interesting real life advice. Really cares about his students, I wouldn't hesitate on taking him again. This class had 3 tests, including the final exam. Even though this was a summer course of 2 hours we just gives 75 minutes to do the first 2 tests and 90 for the final, which is just enough time if you know the steps and what to plug into the calculator. Great professor. If you miss a class it isnt the end of the world. His videos help out a lot. I took the summer class with him and although it was fast paced he thought everything well. Great sense of humor and a great person overall. I would highly recommend taking him.

I took Charless Smith in summer 3 and the course was a bit tough. Make sure to study, study, and study. His exams are just like the reviews with different numbers. In some cases he gives you the same questions and numbers on exam like on practice exam. One thing i enjoyed about his class was that he talked about life, which was very interesting.

Doctor Smith, is simple he uses a basic financial calculator, not excel or any other software. He loves to talk about life. He want his student be happy as they are, but also want to improve themselves. When he say studies or start on something today, I recommended you take his advice. Assignments are pretty straight forward so it hard to fail.

Had his class after working a 9 hour shift at work, after which I felt pretty brain-dead, luckily he is very engaging and will have you laughing. He truly wants his students to succeed. Hybrid Summer Class. This professor is amazing you! You will learn so much! If you study you will pass and if you do don't you won't pass. It's that simple. Make sure you watch his videos, everything is in those videos. Reviews are similar to the tests. I took this class in summer with 3 tests, 1 easy paper. You can get full credit on HW and paper as well as you submit them. He gave super useful personal finance advice and can call his cellphone to ask questions.

The hardest part of this class was the real estate project but it was doable. There are three tests in the class and no final. A sure fire way to pass this class is to watch the videos! He can see how long you've been online watching apparently and is more willing to work with people who have watched the videos vs those who haven't. Take him!

The absolute BEST professor UHD has to offer. I would recommend him for any class you are able to take with him. He tells you exactly what will be on the test. If you get anything less than an A it's because you didn't study. The material is easy as well. I can't praise Professor Smith enough! I will be taking him for any course I can.

Possibly the best teacher at the college of business. Actually shows and explains in detail how to solve problems in the book and is very good with lecturing. He talks a lot and actually gets you to pay attention in class and not doze off.

Very good professor. He provides the lecture videos and it is up to you to learn from that, but he does a very good job explaining. He also works examples from past tests, which are *hint hint* pretty close to the real tests. Homework is not too bad. He gives great tips about money and life as well. Only downside is that his writing is illegible.

Homework is graded super easy so if test scores are lower, homework offers an extra cushion for grade. He's always able to talk on the phone if you have questions and is very passionate about impacting students.

I took this class as a summer mini. The professor is very direct in his goals and objectives and the amount of work you need to put into the class. Math is not my best subject but the professor does a great job on explaining the topics on his lectures. Yes, his handwriting can be tricky, but he's a great teacher. Higher grade had I put more effort.

This was the best professor Ive had had UHD. I loved the way he taught how to use the financial calculator on his videos, which made the class a lot easier. Yes you have to print, work, then scan the tests, but Id rather do that than lockdown browser. I made an A and Im trash at math.

His video lectures are great but there are a LOT of them. Be prepared to spend a lot of time watching lectures. He will let you use any version of the text book so you can find an old copy for a few dollars. BUT he never types anything. Literally, everything he gives you is hand written and scanned.

This professor is one of the best professors. Lectures are recorded from years ago, but they WORK! If you do not follow directions or WATCH THE VIDEOS you will not pass. He gives YOU EVERYTHING to pass. Although the test are a bit inconvenient (printing, scanning) its an easy class. If you are lazy and don't put your part, don't take the class.

First, watch all the videos he has. You need to! Second, take your time, he knows what you've watched and how long you took. Every question you have is in the videos. So he wont answer unless youve watched it. This class is not for you if you do not want to put the study time. Easy A if youre not lazy.

I love this professor as a person. He has lived a LIFE and I feel like I can learn a lot from him. Very open-minded. His exams are HARD though, but if you study you can get an A. If you don't, prepare to stare at your exam in bewilderment and tears.

One of the best professors I've had on this campus. He may seem like he is being hard on you but he just wants you to be successful. Do all the homework assignments, be prepared to watch the videos two times over to really get the concepts, save money on textbooks and get a pdf online or old edition, spend time studying and invest in yourself.

Professor Charles is an engaging professor; he is very experienced in the real estate market. Do not miss class, become friends with a real estate agent (25% of your grade), and take three exams worth 25%. The first exam is based on 3302 and uses a different rate calculation method.

The class is not easy, you will need to study. There is a lot of material to pick up but if you plan properly you will absorb everything like a sponge. It's test-heavy but everything looks like the practice problems and the videos. Just practice nonstop. I was not consistent before I took this class but it teaches discipline. He's nice deep down.

This professor was really intimidating at first. He is very clear from the beginning of the semester, this course requires a lot of studying and to be prepared to spend at least 20hrs a week on it. Lots of math to pick up on, tests were exactly like sample tests just diff. numbers. Study and you will do good. He also gives good financial advice.
