Good teacher. Adamant about staying on top of the reading assignments, but other than that, I have no complaints about his teaching style. If you can read a few chapters of the scriptures consistantly, you should probably pull an A from the class.
Great teacher. Caring, knowledgable, interesting... I didn't care for the tests, but what can you do?

He's witty and entertaining and tells good stories from his life, but I really dislike the whole "I'll give you lists of qualities and characteristics of people and concepts and you'll memorize them for the test."
Great and insightful lectures, but nothing you couldn't get from your friend's notes. Very approachable and easygoing, he tries to adjust his style to fit his students. Great guy; I'm glad I took the class.
Bro.Swift is such a great teacher with a passion for his students. He wants you to suceed and will do anything he can to help. Funny guy, very light work load, tests range in hardness. Take him!!
Bro.Swift is the best professor I have had at BYU! He cares about his students and is so friendly to everyone he meets. He teaches with such a passion for the scriptures. TAKE HIM!!! You won't regret it!
Brother Swift is definitely a very nice and interesting guy. I enjoyed listening to his stories. My only problem was his tests. They were unbelievable. I remember him passing out the tests after we took them only to see everyone's dismayed facial expressions. Happened every time.
Easy if you like to read and comprehend the scriptures for a few hours a week. On his tests he puts give me questions and if you have read and taken notes it is really easy to ace the test. I averaged 15 to 20 min on the tests and averaged about 95%. He likes class discussions instead of lectures
Good man, but not too many significant insights. Just when you're about to feel the spirit he cracks a joke. Tests are usually fine if you stay on top of the reading and create notes for each section.
He is hilarious and very entertaining
Great insights, nothing I would ever think of on my own. One of the best on campus. Tests are difficult enough to be meaningful; you can't be a slacker and do well, but they aren't tricky. The most spiritual class Ive ever had. Becomes friends with his students. The more you put in, the more you get
Awesome professor. His classes are very fun, he uses a lot of personal experiences to teach and realte the information. He brings a lot of humor to the classroom and this has probably been one of my favorite classes. His tests are toatlly reasonable too.
I thought lecture was great, but I thought the tests were tricky.
Easily one of the best prof in Religion dept. He teaches the BofM in a way you learn a lot even as an rm. He teaches principles by class discussion and takes different perpectives. I'd love to take another class from him again.
I liked his lectures but his tests were way to hard for a 2 credit class. Plus you have to make very detailed notes for each section.
The best religion teacher I had. He is very competent in his field and cares about his students. I talked to him several times in his office and he helped me out with things outside of class! I really felt the spirit in his class!
Brother Swift is a very great teacher. He explains things very well and gives great incite into the scriptures. His tests are fair. They aren't really easy but not too hard. I would recommend him
One of my favorite professors. Class discussions are never boring and always laced with humor. Prof. Swift is also humble enough to admit what he does not know. Tests aren't particularly hard. Multiple-choice can be tricky at times, but the essays are very straight-forward and easy to answer if you understand what he is looking for.
I really had a hard time in his New Testament class...he is always teaching his teaching strategy, don't take him if you don't want to be tested on what he thinks vs. what you think.
Brother Swift is an amazing teacher! His class is spiritually edifying - I feel like I learned more about the gospel than in any other class I've ever taken. His tests are hard to get A's on, but a B+ in that class is no prob! Just show up to class, take notes, and DO THE READINGS! This class was definatley worth it!
Go to every class and take good notes. Do all the readings (maybe multiple times?). It was really hard to get an A tests but he usually curves. He has a very interesting approach to the gospel- empirical almost. He loves the gospel and has a lot of good stories to relate to scripture. You'll probably end up with a B+.
I've never enjoyed a REL class more. Bro Swift is funny and spiritual. As long as you read the BOM, you'll get an "A". He has complete confidence in the Honor Code, and is welcome to suggestions on how the assignments could profit a student better. He'll do almost anything to help an individual out.
bro. swift is the man. ask him a question and he'll do his best to help you.
Brother Swift has a unique teaching style that allows his students to be involved. We learn together each class about valuable principles. He values what opinions we hold and then builds upon them. He is a very good teacher and I appreciate his effort to respect our time by never holding us after.
Bro Swift is one of my favorite teacher at BYU. He has such an amazing view of the gospel and his humor keeps you awake and attentive. I learned TONS from this class! The spirit so strong and I got sooo much from his lectures. If one wants to get an 'A' they need to study alot, but it is ok. Best Class Ever!!
Fantastic teacher. Great stories and style, makes scriputers apply and interesting everytime. The tests are difficult, but not all the grade. Swift is a great professor.
Dr. Swift is a fantastic teacher. He reaches an optimal balance between personal analysis, discussion, doctrine, and scholarly insight. His tests are hard, but not impossible. You should just know that going into the first one. Study.
I like his teaching style. He is more than fair with his grading and test questions. I hardly ever studied for this class.
This is the best ran class i have ever taken. He knows what education is about. He is such a teacher for the students. And his test are so easy, they are straight from his class lectures
Awesome book of mormon teacher, fun to listen to and really makes the book of mormon interesting
This was a great class. He lets you know what you will need to know for the tests and makes very useful study guides. The tests were on what was taught in class. Study your notes and the study guide and you'll do fine! He's really funny and class was fun and interesting.
Bro. Swift is an excellent teacher. Lectures are funny and interesting. He explains clearly what is going to be on the exams and it comes right from the Book of Mormon and the lectures in class. The daily reading is a manageable amount and the classes are fun.
Professor Swift has a great sense of humor and usually class is fun. There aren't many assignments, and papers are graded very liberally. A good discussion class.
Brother Swift is a great teacher. He makes class fun and interesting. You can't go wrong taking his class. The daily reading assignments are manageable and projects/papers are actually fun to do. I wish I could take his class for the second half of the BOM.
Bro. Swift is the best. His class blesses your life, it doesn't stress your life. I would take his classes over and over if I could. Just do the reading, write down what he tells you to, and do the study guides, and you're guaranteed and A.
Bro. Swift is the man! He is freakin hilarious but also brings the Spirit so strongly. As he teaches he will say "make sure you know this" so you know exactly what will be on the test. If you take notes and do the study guide, guaranteed A. This guy is amazing!
Brother Swift is awesome! His lectures are interesting and funny, and I love his stories. He can relate to the students and helps us before tests. The class is not too hard as long as you do the reading, and study for the tests. I would defientely recommend him for Book of Mormon.
Brother Swift is hilarious. I wasn't sure about taking a literature class on just the Book of Mormon but it was definitely worth it. Although we got off topic quite a bit the class discussions were great and I really did end up learning a lot about literature. Bro. Swift really cares and there is a lot of leeway in how students can write papers.
Awesome guy. Can't say enough good things about him. Every religion class should be like his. Very intelligent, spiritual, and funny. You'll get a good grade, learn a lot, and enjoy going to class. Couldn't ask for more.
Bro Swift is easily the best. This is a man who quotes the Office, and lets out a joke every 20 second. He also has amazing insights where you say "wow I never thought of it that way. He is a convert so his perspective is fascinating! The class is no sweat. He doesn’t believe in quizzes and you don’t even turn in your journal. You won’t regret it!
I have nothing but good things to say about Brother Swift. He's funny, inspiring, understanding, and knows exactly what he's talking about. If you just keep up with the reading assignments, the class is really no problem. A fantastic experience.
I don't have a single bad thing to say about Brother Swift. He knows his stuff, one of the leading scholars on the Book of Mormon in the world! He's fair on tests, just make sure you do the reading assignments and the journal (which you don't turn in). He's funny and has a great perspective considering he's a convert. Highly recommend him!
Great professor. Tests can be difficult, but you learn so much. I wish I could take his class again just to take in more. Funny, he cracks jokes every 30 seconds. Very spiritual. He doesn't use Power Point! This is so great. This allows the discussion to go where it needs to.
He is just awesome, enjoyed going to class everyday! super funny and gives the best stories. I learned a lot about the BOM as well.
I love Brother Swift. He's funny and his lectures are interesting and inspiring. He explains difficult concepts really well. And he's really good about teaching doctrine rather than opinion.
He is quite amazing...very entertaining and funny. He teaches you exactly what you need to know to get an 'A' on the tests. Great teacher and learned a lot.
Best religion teacher EVER!!! i used to not look forward to religion because it was boring and sometimes i didnt understand. But Swift is SO fun!! i love his class! he is inspring and cracks jokes (funny ones!) but still keeps the spirit. My favorite class :)
Amazing teacher. Every class is open for discussion. My appreciation for literature overall went from none to high. The way I read the Book of Mormon is also with an additional lense. Gives credit for completion of assignments. Take notes on what he writes on the board(a little each day)and that is on the test. Highly recommend; low stress!
Professor Swift is amazing... he really makes sure to point out everything that is on the tests and his study guides make even more sure that you know what is on the exams! He really bakes my cheese... :)
Its true. Chuck Swift is the man. He is what every prfessor should be--he teaches only what you need to learn and gives it to you straight forward with no trickery or fine print. He is very smart but humble the class is not super easy but is very fun.
Brother Swift is amazingly funny and interesting teacher. An A is relatively easy to attain: just write 2 one page papers, do your assigned reading, go to class, take 2 tests and a final, and do all 4 hours of the teaching project. You even get 2% extra credit for doing a professor rating online at byu.edu. Fun guy and an easy A.
Charles Swift is an amazing religion professor. I had him for a whole year because I liked his classes so much. He concentrates on the gospel principles in the scriptures and doesn't get caught up in detail. His classes are involved and very enlightening. I would highly recommend him!!

Charles Swift is a fantastic teacher! I really enjoyed his class. He does a great job of creating an atmosphere where you can learn and feel the spirit. All the assignments are super easy, as long as you're going to class, doing the reading, and following the study guide you'll get a good grade!
He's absolutely one of the most amazing teachers I've had. He's funny, smart, and isn't afraid to admit that he doesn't know something. I learned so much in this class and I recommend him to anyone lucky enough to take his class!
Brother Swift is a AMAZING teacher! I would definitely recommend him for a class. He is hilarious and really teaches about the principles in the scriptures. Our class did really well on the tests overall--I didn't and I'm not quite sure why. I did all the readings, went to class, and studied, but it was more of a personal problem than anything else
I love Brother Swift. He focuses on not speculating and even reigning in mormon myths. Only teaches doctrine. I learned a ton and he is extremely enjoyable, flexible, understanding, and dedicated to learning. He's super funny too. I highly recommend him; he is the best religion teacher I've ever had.
Professor Swift is by far one of the best professors I have ever had at BYU. I enjoyed his lectures and learned a lot about the material we went over every class. He is kind and generous and truly wants his students to succeed. I highly recommend him.
Awesome teacher, so funny, makes class a lot of fun, plus you learn a lot of good information. He helped me achieve a new outlook on the scriptures.
Professor Swift is AMAZING! Take his honors class--it's definitely worth it. He's hilarious, intelligent, and cares about his students. I learned so many new things. Very spiritually enriching environment. I tried to get him for another semester, but his classes were already full--take him if you get the chance!
Brother Swift is great! His lectures are so interesting, spiritual, and funny. If you take notes on what he tells you to and look at the study guide, you'll have everything that's on the test.
He's okay. Most of the test questions are about his opinions on what he feels the doctrine means. If you go to class and memorize the worksheets he gives you its not too bad. He lowers your grade if you miss more than two classes so attendance is big. YOU HAVE TO KNOW WHAT HIS INTERPRETATIONS OF THE SCRIPTURES ARE MORE THAN WHAT THE SCRIPTURES SAY
Brother Swift is an amazing lecturer and teacher. His tests are based very heavily on the Book of Mormon and on specifics discussed in class; so long as you take good notes and know the study guide you'll do fine. His main focuses are teaching *doctrine* (not his personal opinion) and making sure that his students understand those truths.
Bro Swift is an amazing teacher. The thing I loved the best is that he gives great interpretation to scriptures but nothing is his opinion that he tests you on. The tests are on facts and quotes from prophets. he is the man, and really funny
He's a great teacher. Really good at not teaching his opinion, but rather the doctrine as its layed out in the New Testament. He does a good job of explaining prinicples with examples. Very entertaining in a non-obtrusive way. His class is pretty easy if you read your scriptures and take good notes.
Bro. Swift is a wonderful teacher! He is funny, insightful, and very open minded. His classes are discussion based which allows you to study the scriptures in depth. He uses wonderful real life annalogies to help you understand principles. He caters to his students--telling you exactly what you need to know for the tests. I loved going to class.
I think he did teach a lot of his own opinion, but he always told us it wasn't the only interpretation. I got a ton out of the required reading, but not so much out of the class. He changed his format this semester, too. Tests were essay, but if you study you'll be okay. Funny guy, but acts more chill than he actually is. Good enough, though.
TAKE A CLASS FROM BROTHER SWIFT!!! As long as you attend class, keep up with your reading, and study the test guides, you will do fine and learn so much- I hope to be able to take another class from him in the future.
As a person I like professor Swift. I didnt like the class he taught. Honrs 100 was a waste of time. Way harder than a one credit class should be. I did as much writing for this class as i did in my 3 credit classes. If you agree with his views on things you'll get a better grade. Since its only two hours a week you should go to the classes.
The Best Book of Mormon Teacher in my opinion!!! I learned so much, I learned how to study the scriptures. His lectures are very interesting, its discussion based. :) His class is super easy as well!!! I loved his religion class!!! Plus he is very nice teacher, always talk to him if you have a problem. He is willing to help as much as he can. :)
Of the 4 religion professors I've had so far Swift was by far my favorite, I learned so much, and he made it fun as well (A great sense of humor). If you take good notes tests are easy. I always got at least a high B on them (though the averages were lower) I highly suggest taking his class, I didn't have much knowledge about the BOM prior got a B.
Professor Swift is a very nice, helpful, and funny professor. I have mixed feelings about the HONRS 100 class but I think he would be an amazing professor to have for a religion class. The class had a lot of reading, much of which I found extremely uninteresting. However, I will definitely be taking other classes from Professor Swift.
Professor Swift is amazing.
Brother Swift is the best religion teacher I have had. He really teaches the important stuff and his tests are straightforward and clear. I HIGHLY recommend him. I could go on and on about how wonderful he is. Just take his classes.
Brother Swift is great. He is extremely funny, and if your grade is lacking, he will work with you. He doesn't have anything on the tests which aren't discussed in class, and is quick to bar the test in your favor if the average is low. Would take again.
Good man, very philsophical. Easy class if you take good notes and study all your notes for the exams. Make sure you go to class, the exam questions are from his lectures. Do what you are supposed to do, and you'll get a good grade.
I LOVE Prof. Swift's class! He's absolutely HA-larious and has great insights into the Book of Mormon. I've learned so much this semester that I'm retaking Rel A 121H with him. Definitely recommend his classes. He's also very caring about his students. Talk to him if there's a problem and he'll do everything he can to help. :D
Very helpful, friendly, and interesting professor. Take a class from him, if any spots are open. You can enroll in an Honors section if his class, which is pretty much the same (I've heard). Tests are difficult but manageable. Other than that, the class is a breeze; rewarding and enjoyable.
SO FUNNY! Going to his class is a real joy! He's very fair in his grading. You will learn so much! Take it from him if you can!
Brother Swift is AMAZING! Great teacher, I have learned so much this semester! His lectures are so funny, and he orients them in a discussion-based way. You must take at least one class from him!
Bro Swift is hilarious and thought provoking. I learned a lot. PLUS it was soooo easy. Highly recommended if you're looking for a low stress class!
Bro. Swift is hilarious!! He's so awesome! He has such a good grasp on the gospel, as well! Take this class if you can, it's really changed my perspective on so many things. I just wish he taught more than Book of Mormon classes, then I could see him every semester!
I love him! Makes the class enjoyable so that you want to be there each day and also brings the spirit into class. Willing to help with anything. He definitely wants his students to understand and love the Book of Mormon and the gospel. Tests are pretty straight forward if you do the reading and study guides. Not very much homework. Loved his class
LOVE LOVE LOVED this class. He is so inspired and teaches with the spirit. Take a smaller class size if you can because he likes to have discussions and really apply the scriptures to modern day. I learned so much in this class. Tests aren't hard if you study the study guide really well. TAKE HIS CLASS!
Bro. Swift is one of my favorite teachers at BYU. As a teacher I loved attending his lectures and personally I had some of the best conversations with him. He is amazing.
Prof Swift was the coolest teacher! I enjoyed coming to his class a lot. Get into a smaller class size if at all possible, it will be easier to pay attention and do well on tests. Overall a wonderful teacher with good stories and wonderful insight.
I really enjoyed professor Swifts insights and their application to daily life. :)
Dr.Swift was the greatest. Excellent teacher even a better human being. Well worth my time to take his class. Texas forever.
Everybody deserves a chili pepper. (On a serious note, he is an amazing professor who will totally help you. If you need explanations just tell him. He will bring the Book of Mormon into a whole new light. I learned so much from him!)
Dr Swift was very entertaining, insightful and a joy to learn from! I loved going to class and participating in discussion. He was very open to different interpretations of scriptures, unlike some religion professors. However, I did not do well on his tests, which was frustrating. Take him if you want to learn but aren't guaranteed a good grade
Professor Swift is an amazing teacher that really knows how to keep the interest of everybody. He also likes to tell jokes and make fun of people, but in a good light. His tests are somewhat hard, but if you study, you will get a good grade.
I really love Dr. Swift. He teaches in such an amazing way and I can tell he loves the scriptures. He gave me insights I am so glad I now know. Everyone should take Book of Mormon from him. And don't be scared if its an honors class. He makes sure that if you really want a good grade you can get a good grade.
Professor Swift was funny and insightful. I would reccommend BOM with him. He lays out what you need to know, and as long as you study you can do fine on his tests. They can be a little tricky though.
Funny guy, really insightful class. The class average on tests was low, and it was really frustrating. I learned a lot from the class, but I wish I hadn't have taken honors.
Brother Swift is a great teacher! He knows his stuff very well, and is good at being both insightful Highly recommended!
Prof. Swift is hilarious. I loved his class and never missed a day. Be prepared to put in a lot more work than other religion classes, though. You need to spend 2 hours a week on reading assignments plus an hour a week on a semester long project. I found his tangents very interesting and often more insightful than the actual lesson.
Great class! It is a very intensive course and requires a lot of time. Take very good notes and prepare for the tests, because they are extremely difficult. He has a very good understanding of the Gospel and tries very hard to be accurate and not preach anything that isn't doctrine. If you want a challenge, take this class.
Prof. Swift is the best professor I had all semester! I was so disappointed I couldn't get him for the second half. He really cares about his students and is always available to talk and help. I never once felt like I didn't want to be in class. I will definitely take classes from him in the future! No doubt about it.
The tests were tricky, but the class wasn't hard overall. The honors section isn't that much different than the regular section, just an additional semester project. He's an OK teacher, but he's a great guy and I loved his stories. I recommend him because I felt like he actually cared about his students.
He is a nice guy, and tries hard, but his tests are not clear. Sometimes it is hard to figure out what he is trying to ask. In class he will go off on random tangents, then sometimes they will show up on the test.
Professor Swift is a great guy, a great teacher and knows the subject well. He grades papers and projects generously but his tests are a little bit hard, you will do well if you study your notes well. nothing is on the test if he didn't say "know this" before saying it. I wouldn't recommend any other teachers for this class. Bro Swift is a Boss.
He was amazing! I loved his Book of Mormon class and I learned so so so much. It wasn't just a typical seminary class. I only wish I could take him for the second half of Book of Mormon.
Awesome professor. Super funny. Makes everything he teaches super interesting. As long as you just do the reading and assignments (he mostly grades on completion) and study for the 2 tests, you'll get an A.
go to class if you want good notes. he doesn't give any quizzes. his lectures are super fun to attend and he is very whitty. his assignments are easy, but his tests can be a little confusing. he is very detail oriented. if you do basic studying, then you should atleast pass the test. i am a dumb freshmen and i did fairly well.
his lectures are very funny and interesting. he is very good at answering questions. his assignements are easy, he has no quizzes. his tests can be a little challenging, so pay attention to details. make sure you are familiar with stories and characters in the BOM.
I accidentally took his honors course but am glad I did. He is a very good teacher and he wants you to know the doctrine found in the Book of Mormon. You do have some assignments and the tests aren't easy. But I really liked him as a teacher and I wish I could take the 2nd half of the Book of Mormon with himnext semester.
Br. Swift is AMAZING. This is the second class I have taken from him and each has been an extremely rewarding experience. If you are looking for a teacher to give you all the hoops you need to jump through to get an A, I would suggest a different class. If you are looking for a place to explore academically and learn about yourself, you've found it
His class was the only thing that kept me from going insane this semester. As long as you do the work you'll get an A. If you take notes then the tests are a piece of cake. He usually tells you what you should write down and what will be on the test. His class rocks and he's an amazing teacher.
He cares about all of the students. He applies the lectures to your life and is extremely helpful when you have questions. Definitely recommended.
An extremely enjoyable experience. My favorite professor. He is not only hilarious but also helps you truly understand the doctrine taught in the Book of Mormon. He is the man!
Bro. Swift is fantastic. He cares about YOU. He is hilarious. He wants you to learn, and does everything he can to help you. He is probably the best teacher I've ever had. What else is there to say?
His Book of Mormon as Literature class was fascinating. He is a very good teacher, very interested in the student's learning. He brings up ideas that I never would've thought of. I always learned something interesting in his class. He is very funny and engaging, his class was fun. He grades pretty hard, it is a 300 level class. Reading was easy tho
Bro Swift is a great teacher! He keeps everyone entertained, and the class discussions are always insightful and hilarious. His tests are difficult, watch out for the final. If you study the study guide and come to class you can do okay. There isn't that much work either. Overall hilarious class, but a bit hard. I would take this class again.
Very entertaining professor with great insights. The study guides make the tests very easy. His sense of humor makes the class enjoyable and hard to fall asleep in. Has a lot a background knowledge on the subject of religion, probably due to him being a convert to the Church. If you like more serious professors, then he might get on your nerves.
He is an amazingly funny teacher who really does bring the Spirit into his class. Highly, highly recommend him. Favorite professor I've had thus far in any subject. His tests aren't too hard, and he prepares you well for them. Definitely recommend this class!
Great class, even better professor. Brother Swift knows exactly how to apply what we're going through to his lessons (NT). One paper, two exams and a final.
Dr Swift has very interesting viewpoints and insightful things to say and discussions to start. Very knowledgeable and fun. His tests are super detailed, though, so watch out. Do the study guide extremely detailed and study with others in the class, it helps! Not an easy A but very recommended.
Interesting, engaging teacher. Everything on tests and quizzes is on the study guide. Generous with curve.
While Brother Swift is a really nice guy, I would definitely not recommend this class to anyone who wants the spirit in class. Goes off on tangents and I never looked forward to going to class. Tests are confusing and hard to do well on
Professor Swift is the best religion professor I have taken! He is insightful and tries extremely hard to stick to doctrine. His tests are not very difficult if you attend EVERY class, take good notes, and complete the study guide. He's very funny and class discussions are always interesting. Take this class!
Swift is hilarious and he has lots of fascinating stories and very helpful examples. I have enjoyed his class. He allows for a lot of discussion, which was not a good idea in my class, but could be better in others. It was a easy class and I learned enough, but it wasn't a very testimony-building class for me. Swift is still great, though.
Best professor I've ever had and probably the best I ever will have. I met with him multiple times outside of class just to talk about religion life in general. He's very logical and is great at teaching. Also, he makes students think in ways they usually don't have to. Take his class!
I really enjoyed this class. He teaches the students to think and analyze the scriptures while studying more in depth and pulls things out that most people do not catch when reading or studying it by themselves.
Good teacher, focuses on what's most important. Difficult tests, but not too terrible. Encourages thinking.
What a great man. Very very logical, which is uncommon for a religion professor. More church members need to think the way he does. The class lecture is very enjoyable. He tests are a bit difficult but his study guides go over all of the questions on the test. What a great class
Professor Swift is one of the best teachers you will ever have. I promise.
I love Professor Swift! He has such a great sense of humor and a great outlook on the gospel. I would highly recommend taking his class! You learn but there isn't a lot of homework or busy work.
He is a great professor. He is very insightful and has a lot to offer about the Book of Mormon. He is very entertaining and keeps class interesting. The assignments are easy for the most part however some of the questions that he asks require you to really think about what you read. This is one of the best classes that I have taken!
Professor Swift is great! There are random quizzes throughout the semester, and the study guide for the final is kind of long, but if you really read the Book of Mormon and you take good notes, it is easy to answer the questions and you'll do find on the test. Definitely go to class!
Brother Swift is a wonderful teacher! He's funny, charismatic, and genuine. I've had so many of my questions answered by his lectures, and I always leave class feeling enlightened. He's there to help you learn.
Professor Swift is the greatest teacher in the universe!!! My testimony grew leaps and bounds in his class, and I felt like I finally understand my religion. I love how well he brings the spirit to class yet is not afraid to add humor where appropriate.
Great Teacher. Great Guy. Great Class.
I looked forward to this class every week. Bro Swift is a talented teacher whose teaching style has you laughing your butt off one second and the next feeling a deep and profound spiritual awakening. I recommend this class to anyone who loves reading the Book of Mormon and receiving the skills to discern true doctrine!
Brother Swift is awesome! He teaches a lot through highly entertaining stories and keeps things interesting :) He is a super great teacher and definitely 'red chili pepper' material!!
Oh.My.Goodness. He is the BEST professor ever! His lectures are applicable to all aspects of your life. His class strengthened my testimony immensely. You will miss out on great blessings if you do not take this class!
Bro. Swift is the best religion teach I have had yet. He has taught me so much about the Book of Mormon, and my testimony has grown a lot. He is also extremely hilarious which makes me look forward to his class. Definitely go to class and do the study guides before tests and you will do great. Take this class!
Professor Swift is the nicest guy I have ever met while also explaining difficult concepts with precision and clarity. I would recommend his class to anyone and everyone.
He was a fantastic professor. If you have the chance to take his class I highly recommend it.
Focuses on the doctrine. Very funny guy!
Great teacher! Likes to bring up issues that people may have with principles in the scriptures due to misunderstanding of what the scriptures are really saying, and then he clarifies them. Interesting and insightful, helped me learn how to identify principles in the scriptures.
Brother Swift is a great professor and by far one of the best that I have had at BYU. He brings such a spirit of peace and love in his lessons and I have learned a great deal from him. You could not find another teacher like Brother Swift.
Love Professor Swift, this is my second semester taking him and I have loved every minute of his class.
His classes are extremely interesting and useful in everyday application. However he does not go heavily into Book of Mormon know how so preparing for tests feels like you are finding your own material. But I learned real world application and wouldn't trade for another class.
In his Honors class, you have a lot of memorizing and fill-in-the-blank to do. If you are in his regular class, tests are multiple choice. But he is a PHENOMENAL teacher and I loved having him! He's funny but deeply spiritual, which made me look forward to class everytime. Loved him!
I learned some good things in this class, but I felt that a lot of the material taught was more opinion than doctrine.
Professor Swift is the funniest professor I have ever had. He makes class very enjoyable and I always look forward to it. At the same time, he is also an amazing teacher as well. Best Professor Ive ever had.
Brother Swift is an amazing Book of Mormon teacher. He does not settle for the "primary" answers, so you learn a lot about digging deep and finding meaning. The class is a lot of work with lots of reading, but all of the work pertains to your betterment and learning. Make sure you take the time to do the work and study. Overall, it is a great class
Professor Swift is the best professor I have had at BYU. He is funny, very knowledgeable, and very helpful. HIs jokes are hilarious. He teaches the material very well, and I look forward to his class every time.
This was my favorite class all semester. Such an amazing teacher, totally loved him. He knew all the material and loved it, and so it helped me love it too. He didn't accept lame answers so you actually had to dig and think for yourself about the gospel. There was lots of reading, but it was the best way. I learned so much about the gospel and bom.
Brother Swift does an excellent job of explaining doctrines/principles clearly & effectively. The course work was demanding at times (lots of reading), but my knowledge/testimony of the BOM grew exponentially because of it. Additionally, Brother Swift is a very personable, witty man who made coming to class enjoyable. I definitely recommend him!
Swift is a fantastic teacher. My favorite here at BYU to this point. Very front loaded class. The majority of the reading was in the first month. It's smooth sailing after that. Pay attention in class and you will do fine on his exams. Sometimes he jokingly says some semi-offensive things, but that's just his personality. Don't take it personally.
he is a very good, well rounded professor. He is very clear and light humored in class and makes the subject very meaningful. He makes a great effort to get everyone involved in class. He is also very respectful to all his students.
As much as I love Brother Swift (he is hilarious, great lecturer and a super nice guy) his tests are ridiculous and way too hard. This class was way more difficult than it should have been.
Nice guy. But his tests are too hard. He lies and says that if you know everything on the study guide you'll be fine but he's wrong. Tests are too hard.
Really, his tests are not that hard. If you fill out the study well, you'll do well. The problem is that the study guides are pretty lengthy. Class is a little tedious; have to read for 1 hour before every class period. Funny and nice guy. Like most religion teachers, teaches a little false doctrine but it's not that bad. I recommend him.
I took both semesters of Book of Mormon from him. His tests are fair, and his class is manageable. You can grow spiritually and intellectually in this class without having to put ridiculous time into it. He teaches clearly and knows his stuff. He is really good at separating doctrine from culture, partly because he is a convert. I recommend it
Never looked forward to class mores. He is so chipper and fun. His insight into the doctrine is refreshing. A lot of it is stuff I've never heard before, but none of it sounded like false doctrine. The worst thing is his stupid tests. The study guides are way too vague. (i.e. "Know this story.") Then the test q's are far more specific. So annoying!
Best professor I've had at BYU hands down. He knows what's up, his study guides are given in the beginning of the semester and has everything that will be on the test, he doesn't use any powerpointselectronics which I loved, and he makes understanding doctrinescriptures super easy.
Favorite professor I have had at BYU in any class. I recommend him to everyone. You need to take a class from him!!!!
Easily the best professor I've had at BYU thus far. Brother Swifts lectures were the highlight of my weeks. I have never looked forward to a lecture like I did his. The assignments are just reading and applying; very simple. His tests are easy if you pay attention. I learned a ton in his class. Highly, highly recommend him!!
Fantastic class. Lectures are awesome and spiritual. Easy criteria: do the reading study a few hours for each test, get an A.
Swift is a nice guy. His class is pretty easy. I wish he would spend more time getting into the real context and information of the scriptures, however. He spends too much time talking about when he was in Columbia law school and how BYU shouldn't make people pay for their football tickets. Lectures should be more focused, but it's alright.
Bro. Swift is the man. His humility comes through in everything he does, and he really wants his students to learn. Study guides are word-for-word the test, so if you don't have a great spiritual experience and get an A in his class, you might be doing something wrong.
He is super smart when it comes to the New Testament and lectures are interesting, but I was usually too concerned trying to figure out what he was actually saying and what he would be testing us on that I found it hard to enjoy the class. Tests were on crazy details and designed to trick you (he said that). Take it from someone else!
Professor Swift rocks. He's got an open perspective and he's unlike many in the religion department; expect well-rounded discussions instead of having opinions shoved down your throat. The class is easy if you do the basic stuff. He's knows his stuff but I'd say his ability to incite good discussion is even more useful. I learned a lot.
Enjoyed Swift so much that I took 2 more classes from him. I particularly enjoyed his class "The Book of Mormon as Sacred Literature" offered through the English department. Learning from in in a religious and secular context was transformative. I grew so much as a student and a church member.
Brother Swift is easily one of my favorite professors. He really cares about his students and does everything he can to incorporate new interpretations of the New Testament into his lectures. His tests are fairly specific but study guides help a lot if you make an effort. 10/10 would recommend!
Don't let these reviews fool you. Yes he is funny insightful & I learned so much. But he has weird policies and tries to trick you on tests (even though he says he doesnt). Patient about some things, unfair about others. Definitely worth taking, but he really doesnt seem to care about students on an individual level. Good luck.
I liked Dr. Swift, but getting a good grade in his class was really challenging! The study guides were vague, and I felt like I simply had to memorize all the scriptures we covered in order to be prepared for the tests. He's very knowledgeable about the New Testament, and his lectures were good, but if you want an easy A, I wouldn't recommend him
The information learned in class is very interesting and instructive. The lectures can seem a little long at times but overall I enjoyed learning the things he taught. You have to take notes of every thing he says especially quotes he says. They will be on the tests and sometimes one tiny little detail he mentioned one time will be on the test.
Professor swift is awesome. He helps you learn a lot and he's super nice and funny. His tests are fairly difficult but if you study the reading guides he gives you it will be fine. I wish I had signed up to have him for the second half of BOM
He is a really great teacher and I learned a lot of new stuff from him. The tests are not too hard you just need to fill out the study questions he gives you. many people in my class said they would like to take a class from him again.
If you want an easy A with minimal time commitment and required participation in class, don't take it from him. Tests are not just a walk in the park, there are projects, and reading has to be pretty self motivated. If you're interested in learning new perspectives about the gospels and having your understanding of Christ expanded, take it from him
He's one of the best religion professors I've ever had. He has some kind of radical opinions about things sometimes, but he made class really enjoyable. The test was pretty tricky, but I enjoyed the class so much that I would take it again. The reading isn't bad at all; the trick is just finding new ways (and time) to apply it in meaningful ways.
I LOVED Prof Swift. Amazing professor. He really knows what he's teaching and you can see that he loves it in the way he teaches. He is beyond fair and friendly to the students in his grading criteria, and is constantly looking for ways to improve. And behind his hilarious jokes when he gets down to the material he is extremely inspirational. Love.
Barother Swift is fun, caring, thorough. He wants to make sure you have a solid understanding of the New Testement, with both world and LDS perspectives. He encourages class discussion, is respectful of students' insights and opinions, guiding the discussions toward doctrine and inspiration. He emphasizes applying the scriptures in your life.
He is very good. He doesn't give out any preparation questions for the tests and those are very hard!!!. All in the test is based on the lectures on class. So, if you missed the class, you wont pass.
TAKE FROM SWIFT! He is my favorite religion professor. So many professors at BYU have such a "scholarly" approach to teaching. Swift had a perfect balance of spiritual and scholarly learning. I learned a lot about the New Testament and I also had my testimony strengthened. His lectures are upbeat and his jokes and stories are hilarious.
Great professor, very funny, excellent at expanding our viewpoints of the New Testament to understanding other interpretations besides the LDS standard. Really enjoyable going to class, which is good because if you don't go you won't do well on the test which is almost all of your grade. The tests are tricky (even though he won't admit it)
i honestly wish this class was longer, i loved it! he cared about his students and always made sure to teach us non-lds perspectives. hes a convert so that's cool and his grading scale is very fair. he tries to help us out if he can. you can tell he genuinely loves what he's teaching
I really enjoyed Professor Swift's class. I genuinely enjoyed going to class each day. Tests are based on lectures, so if you take good notes it should be fine. He had a lot of great insights about non LDS views on the New Testament, which I really enjoyed learning about. Great mix of an academic challenge and spiritual content, would take again!
I enjoyed taking this class from Brother Swift. I felt like it was a good balance between learning historical facts and learning the gospel. You have to pay attention in class because much of his tests are based on what he teaches in class. Also, he includes a time requirement on how much you need to read the New Testament.
Professor Swift is a great teacher! You'll learn a lot in this class about the New Testament, but don't expect to just show up and get an A. I had to work for it. Don't skip class because he will tell you that the majority of test material are things he specifically covers in class.
He is a fantastic teacher and friend. He is there for you if you need extra help or if you just want to chop block with him. As far as the grading goes, you cannot just show up and expect to get an A. I worked hard on the study guides to do well in the class. Learn his system, go to class, and you will be fine.
Brother Swift asks that phones are in airplane mode and put away along with laptops. He asks us to bring paper scriptures. I liked his class, and the reading was easy and nice.
Professor Swift is the kind of human being that we need a lot more of in the world. He is so talented with people and knows how to look at people with an eye to help. Very genuine in the way he taught and he helped us see different perspectives held around the world about certain topics in the gospel. My favorite religion professor at BYU!
Professor Swift is my all time favorite religion professor! He is caring and funny. His exams are all short answer and essay responses, but he goes over all the material in class or is taken from homework readings. Take his class!
Swift requires paper scriptures & no phone use in class. I felt like he was just talking at me and not teaching by the spirit. The tests are in class, all written, including two essays. You have to complete it all during the class period. Attendance is a grade for the class. This class wasn't necessarily terrible but I never felt spiritually fed.
Brother Swift is a great teacher. He does make students keep technology put away, but he has his own brand of humor and is a great teacher. The no-tech rule does keep everyone focused a lot more. He grades very fairly and has great thoughts on the Book of Mormon. (Though occasionally some of the things he teaches are his own personal opinion)
There are not enough stars to give Brother Swift. He has been absolutely amazing to work with and his class has taught me a lot. So thankful I took this class!
His quizzes and tests are all essay and short answer. He made some changes throughout the semester to help us understand what he wanted from answers, and I think he's going to replace the quizzes with study guides in the future. I learned so much from his lectures, and he was so helpful when I came to his office hours. He really cares about you
I had more homework for this class than any other religion class I've ever taken. His tests were insanely hard. The tests are administered in class and is made up of 3 essays. This sounded easy to me but the questions were terrible. The essay questions are SUPER specific which is hard since there was sooo much reading.
I love professor Swift. I almost switched out of this class but I'm so glad I stayed. It's nice going through class without the distraction of phones/laptops. Take good notes during class and you'll be fine on the tests. There are very few people that can genuinely make me laugh, and professor Swift is one of them.
Makes you come to class. Requires you put away your phone. Doesn't give you much help on tests besides saying questions could come from any of the readings or class discussion. Least favorite religion professor at BYU.
He is AMAZING. If you have any doubts then clear them. I have a lot of medical problems and he was great with accomodating them. He is an amazing lecturer and goes the extra miles with EVERYTHING. Take every class you can from this man.
This felt too hard for a religion class. So many of the points come from remembering to take the homework quizzes and remembering your BOM. The tests are hard; you have to remember everything he said was important in class word for word. So good notes are really important. He point of view of the scriptures sometimes felt harsh and onesided.
This class was a bit hard. I left every day feeling like I was missing a real spiritual connection. A lot of focus on how we misinterpret the scriptures, but I really felt I was not connecting spiritually. The tests are relatively easy, if you study, and there are weekly reading responses.
I love Professor Swift. His class honestly changed my life. I would take from him again in a heartbeat. Homework actually helped me learn about the Book of Mormon & just be a better person.
He was a great guy who cared about teaching the doctrine of the Book of Mormon instead of focusing on the academics of college.
I took this class online due to COVID. It was super intense. I had a module each week full of quizzes, readings, journal entries and discussions. I had a tough time keeping up with this class and all of my other classes. I learned a lot of stuff I felt like I had already learned in church and seminary. It was a lot of busy work.
Professor Swift was a really friendly professor who gave great insights in his webinars. This class took a lot of reading and other assignments even thought they were not difficult. The tests focused on very specific details. But overall a good class.
Professor Swift is great. I took the class online and Professor Swift always sent out announcements covering the week's work. He held webinars which were helpful but were only once a month. So I did not have much interaction with him. But take the online version of the class. It is worth it.
Professor Swift wasn't super present in this course mainly because it was all online. But his content was incredible. He had different renown instructors write each week's lesson in accordance with the topics Swift picked out. The tests are easy and the weekly work is light if you don't mind 2 hours a week and being genuine and honest. I recommend
Professor Swift did not even teach the course. The 2-unit class was harder than several 5-unit classes that I have taken and it is not worth it. It is a lot of busy work that detracted from my ability to focus on the courses for my major. I got an A, but it was not worth the stress.
Professor Swift might be my favorite professor at BYU. He is extremely passionate and knowledgeable, but cares immensely about what his students have to say. His is very caring and is super understanding and flexible with due dates and assignments. There are very few assignments, but not in a bad way.
AMAZING! Only assignments are checking yes or no to the readings before class, 2 easy projects, and 3 easy multiple choice exams. Really cares about his students! Entertaining lectures. Highly recommend unless youre not a fan of easy and spiritual
Prof Swift was probably my favorite religion professor here! The class size was small so he got to know all of us, and he was super funny and made his class entertaining and engaging. He even rewrote the test according to what we talked about in class. I learned so much from him this semester!
I was not a fan of this class. Work load is light, but tests are pretty tough for a religion credit (even for a RM). The class average in this class was a B+ (after a considerable amount of curve on all the tests). Professor Swift is very nice though and his classes are enjoyable if you're ok with lowering your GPA for a religion class.
I would loveeeee to take another class from professor Swift. However, I believe that he is retiring very soon. He tailors his tests for each class period, so every class has their own test based upon what he discussed in class. He is an amazing person and was my favorite professor this semester. Take him!
So sad he's retiring! I would 100% take more classes from him! Professor Swift is my fave religion professor! He cares so much for each of his students and makes all assignments super clear. We'll miss you Professor Swift!!!
