(Hybrid) The one day of the week that we meet in-class is usually for group discussion and addressing assignments. Attendance is mandatory or you will fail (KSU has a policy that states that a total of more than 6 absences both online and in-class results in an automatic F) . He's really cool, knows what he is talking about, and will always help.
(hybrid) seriously one of the best professors you can take! he can be slightly confusing on what the assignments are for hybrid days but if you ask him he will clarify. he's pretty cool professor and is always willing to help
(Hybrid) Don't take him. The whole class had problems what was required in the assignments including me and asking for help doesn't really help.
Unclear with his expectations for assignments. Asked multiple times to clarify and he was not very helpful. There is no instruction during class, instead you go around the room taking turns reading. No tests or quizzes, but a lot of writing. Didn't learn anything.
If you even slightly like literature at all, you will like Prof Thorne's class. There were bo quizzes or exams. All of the major assignments were short writing assignments or longer projects (with options such as longer research essays, artistic interpretations, presentations, but he will let you have some freedom in your choice).
He is available if anything seems unclear. If you walk away from class not understanding the expectation, send an email/hangouts--quick turnaround! I wished more professors used his modes of communication. The work - explore and utilize your options! PLZ PARTICIPATE!!! Do honest work! Most interesting/discussed class in my household.
He's a cool and funny guy but his assignments aren't well described and he's nearly impossible to reach outside of class. He's okay but you really have to ask a lot of questions to do good.
Prof. Thorne is honestly the best literature professor I've ever had. He genuinely cares about helping his students succeed. He doesn't give tests. You just turn in projects periodically over the semester. He's funny, sarcastic, and gives extra credit opportunities. Just read the material in the book and you'll be fine. Definitely would take.
He's very tech savvy. Also he is very open to new ideas and concepts for projects. He's easy to talk to. He cares greatly about his subject. Doesn't teach much or heavy with discussion.
(Hybrid 1102) A lot of work, but he didn't really grade too tough. He is pretty lenient with assignments. Gives a lot of extra credit opportunities. A lot of oppurtunities to ask questions and to "re-do" assignments. (He assigns several drafts) Gotta work to get the A! But it wasn't too hard. Class material was interesting too!
He's from New York and this class is eye-opening. Just take it he is awesome!
If you take his hybrid there is a lot of discussion post to do, but they are really easy. You really don't have to read A LOT you can skim through it and make a post. Class is not hard at all you just have to show up.
Attendance was mandatory because its a hybrid class. The lectures were always very interesting. Always very quick to respond to emails and loves to help. would definitely take again!
Professor Thorne's classes were VERY BORING. You just read out of the book out loud for an hour and 15 minutes each class period. He's a nice guy and he's knowledgeable about world literature but I didn't prefer the projects we were assigned, and how he chose to spend class time.
This class is easy as long as you do the work. There is about one assignment due a week but they are all really small discussion type assignments. He grades more on completion except for the projects, he is really lenient on how he grades and how you choose to do your projects. This is my second class with him and I highly recommend this professor.
I took 13 hours the semester I had him... His class was more work than the rest combined. A 2 page paper on an article is due every class as well as ridiculous essays about a pre chosen topic. He grades very hard and is not clear. He also pushes his personal views.
I took his class as a hybrid, and I loved it. Instead of papers he had us do infographics and video projects. No tests, just the project grades and weekly discussion posts, with some extra discussion posts for extra credit. He is very reachable outside of class and is understanding. Grades fairly.
I took this as a hybrid class. This class was fairly easy to me. NO TESTS. 300 word Discussion posts every tuesday. And we did do a good amount of projects but they were fun. Not a lot of essays at all! and he's really cool. Responds to emails quickly.
Wonderful teacher!!! Theres a few super easy projects and like 2 papers but he grades fair and gives good feed back. Hes very friendly as well
If you want an English class that you do not have to struggle in, take his hybrid class. He not the professor who is all about writing papers. He more in-tune with society and knows there's more ways to learn English then writing papers. Class is mandatory but it is worth going because the in-class discussion are great.
Excellent teacher! Mr. Thorne gives a lot of opportunities to get an A
He was amazing! I got a High A in his class and am taking him again for English 1102! I took hybrid and that is the way to go!
Professor Thorne is a good professor. I took him for ENGL1101 in the summer semester and he is a chill dude. He explains material in class and gives a lot of time to complete assignments in class. He'll tell you what you are doing wrong if you ask
I took this course Summer 2018. For starters, you will need the textbook, but dont purchase the optional book. We would read during class and then discuss. His grading is fair and he gives great feedback after submitting the first drafts. We had 9 discussion posts, 1 infographic, 1 essay, and 1 presentation. Great for people who dont like essays.
Charles Thorne is an extremely chill and relaxed professor. Yes, there is a decent amount of writing in the class, but it is manageable, and he allows you to do the writing in class too. The entire class is just a giant research paper, just know that.
Prof. Thorne is a fantastic professor! His class is centered around a research presentation project, as opposed to a paper like in other classes. He offers extra credit that he shows on the syllabus from the beginning, so you know when it's happening. Really nice guy, and really interested in what his students have to say in discussions.
I took his incredibly straightforward hybrid class. You know how to earn the grade you want. 9 easy points of extra credit available. The class revolves around a research presentation on a subject you choose & weekly discussion posts. Most of the textbook and online readings are not necessary. Multiple drafts assigned means an A is easy to get.
This class is practically a semester-long research project. You do an annotated bibliography, some source analyzing, and a power point presentation at the end of the semester instead of a final. If you do the work and the discussion boards every week, it's an easy A. Don't buy the text book--you don't need it.
One of the best professors I have ever had. He so much fun in class and makes the materials interesting and easy to understand. He always interacts with students and in class discussions. Best professor I've taken. Also offers extra credit
This is one of the easiest professor's I have ever had. I took the hybrid version of this class and it was super easy. The only grades in the class were weekly discussion posts, midterm and final. The midterm and the final are vocabulary (30 words each). Honestly you do not have to read for this class! He offers a lot of extra credit as well!
Only 1 major research project the whole semester that isn't that bad. No long essays, just short discussion posts/activities due at the end of the week. Textbook not really needed. For assignments you turn it in for a easy 100, he comments revisions to make, and you turn it in revised for an actual grade. Great for those with a harder class load!!!
I have never been very good at writing or English classes but this is the best prof I've ever had! He gives the most helpful feedback and truly cares about you and your grade. Wants to see his students do well. Go to all classes and let him know you care about your grade.
Professor Thorne is by far the best professor I have this semester. He is super laid back and extremely nice. I took his hybrid class, which I highly recommend. You do a discussion post every week, then meet in class and talk about the readings. Professor Thorne is the best. Take his class, you won't regret it.
This is the best class I have ever taken in college. It is the easiet A you can imagine. I take the hybird version so you read two SHORT stories a week. On Tues we have a disccusion in class and Thurs you type a disscusion online. You would be crazy not to take his class. Oh and he offers extra crdeit, I didn't even need it though
Very laid back class. You do discussion posts once a week and show up to class once a week. A specific day during the week is when everything is due so its not crammed and very organized. You do need textbook just to do discussion posts and when you meet for class you just read. He offers lots of extra credit. Great class to get an easy A.
there is very little assignments in this class, 3 projects that are very simple and a few discussion post. Prof. Thorne gives good feedback and grades very easy
100% recommend professor Thorne. He is not a tough grader. Helps the student. He will always get back to you in a timely manner with questions. Couldnt ask for a better English professor!!
Best English Professor at Kennesaw. Literally this was the easiest class I've ever taken
He is a really easy professor to have. All we did in that class was show up talk about current events, read the book together, do a few in class assignments and do a few group projects. It was the easiest english class ever. High school classes are harder than his. He is a must-take professor if you need to take english and want an easy A
Professor Thorne is the nicest man ever, and you can tell he loves his job. Easy class than you can actually learn from.
he's so sweet and easy. only midterm and final. all vocab, super easy. discussions are pretty easy just takes some time and same for the replies. TAKE HIM!
Little to no grading criteria or guidelines as to how to complete assignments on D2L or in class. His assignments never made sense. Once told me my assignment was perfect and I received an 80 on it anyways. I don't think I would've made an A if the head of the department hadn't taken over. If you can work with barely any guidelines, go for it.
Dr. Thorne was a very chill professor. His course was ver technology based and he gives you free rein to be as creative as you want to be. I also met some really interesting characters in this class so I definitely recommend.
I took him for Engl1102 during the summer. We only had 1 research paper, where the work was divided into different grades. In the end we had to make a presentation instead of writing a formal research paper. He was accessible outside class, and attending the online-check ins was part of the grade.
Nice guy
This is the easiest class I have ever take at KSU. All you have to do is come to class, and do the weekly discussions and you will receive an A. There is a midterm and final but you have the choice of doing a quiz or essay. I highly recommend doing the quiz, SUPER easy. Take him! PLEASE
The only grades that went into the grade-book were essays. The total number of essays were 4. Clear grading criteria and the topics about the essays were really interesting and i enjoyed writing about them.
Very kind. Lots of reading, but he made the class enjoyable.
The class structure is laid out very clearly: There is a zoom class discussion on the story to be read that week and a written discussion due on the Friday of that week. There are two projects in the course: A mid-term and final which aren't too difficult. He's a fair grader, accessible outside of the class, willing to help, and really a nice guy!
Go to zoom meetings because of attendance points. We chose one topic, and that same topic was used to write a research proposal, annotated bib, and a presentation at the end. He gives great feedback and gives you the opportunity to revise! Be prepared to research the topic you choose because you will use those citations throughout the semester (:
Big research project. Graded by a couple things. He will reject your topic if it's something he doesn't like. Grading criteria can be a bit unclear. Wouldn't take again
I took prof Thorne online for English 1101 and would take him again if I could. I took his class as a dual enrollment student and he was very understanding of that and was always willing to help and answered emails fast. We had 3 essays and 5 discussion posts throughout the semester, they were all self explanatory and prof Thorne is a fair grader.
I've really only had a handuful of professors from KSU that I've thoroughly enjoed and Mr. Thorne is one of them, awesome professor and great teacher. A+ for you!
I had to withdraw this class because of my own issues but I had only been with him for less than a month and he was good with communication, the books are easy to read if you read them on time. Its all basically writing an agreement essay base of the book you read and discussed it in the meeting.
Mr. Thorne is older so he's not super tech savvy when it comes to online classes. He grades fair but lots of writing assignments. He's an average professor but you'll pass the class as long as you try. He takes late work.
I took his asynchronous course, but still talked to him every week because he is so caring and eager to help. Discussion post every week (graded for completion) and 2 4+ page papers. He grades the papers harsher than other english teachers, but I respect him not just giving out 100s for anything. Take the papers seriously & you'll get an A.
This professor is very caring and you can tell he wants to make sure you understand everything. The work load is a lot, but he gives you an ample amount of time to finish it all. He accepts late work as well. The class is an easy A, especially if you stay on top of your work.
Professor Thorne is a very easy grader. I took his class over the summer, but I would probably recommend taking it in the fall/spring. Most things were straightforward, but I noticed he would copy paste certain instructions and videos from spring/fall classes. This would be fine except that summer had very different deadlines and requirements.
Overall, great person. I recommend meeting with him because he has a certain way of doing things. Class was pretty easy. I am not great at ENGL. Class was pretty straight forward. Do not procrastinate. All of his assignments take at least 7 hours to do. I work 80 hours. This is a 7 hour a week class.
I took him for both 1101 and 1102 online during my senior year of high school. He was very easy to work with. Just meet with him over zoom when necessary, it shows him you care. I struggled to find a research topic for our final in 1102 and he met with me a couple different times and helped me come up with one. He was so great, I miss his class!
Professor Thorne graded very easy and made his class very doable. Every week there is one assignment due and he has lots of office hours if you have questions. Receiving an A+ is so easy.
Professor Thorne's class consists of a weekly discussion post due at the end of the week, a paper in place of a midterm, and then a paper in place of a final. Regardless, very nice grader and just an overall really cool dude. Clearly very passionate about the subject he teaches and I have had very interesting discussions about a variety of topics.
Best prof ever. He is so nice and caring. Cares that you enjoy what your reading. He is super available and always gives feedback. Took him for this class and 1101. Got A plus in both.
This is the best professor I've ever taken. 325-word discussion post once a week. It is so easy. The midterm and finals are both essays or podcasts. Easily reachable. Take this professor!!! You won't regret it!!
Best lit teacher I've ever had. Class is one discussion a week. TAKE THIS CLASS!! You will not regret it.
2 essays and weekly discussion posts based on readings he assigns. Easy grader on discussions but for the midterm/final essays they are very rushed and kinda confusing. Doesn't give you much guidance for what he wants you to write about, just overall confusing. Not a lot of grade opportunities.
this class was nothing too difficult but this professor made things 2x more confusing and unlikeable. He encourages to ask questions, but he does not fully answer any questions or would answer in ways that left me confused. He also is very inconsistent with the rubrics and structure of assignments, he would change the requirements last second.
Weekly discussion boards based on texts that are a couple of pages, with 2 response posts. 2 projects where you get to choose what to do. Unforgiving when it comes to late assignments. Gives plenty of resources to help you succeed. Doesn't grade too harsh. As someone said, the midterm is rushed, but you have plenty of time to do the final.
Definitely recommend! Class itself is one big assignment broken into small parts. Gives good feedback and helps you improve your grade. The work load does seem like a lot if you do submit things last minuet, very understanding and caring. Does allow late work but not for the final. Class itself was easy since he does give opportunities to improve!
Professor Thorne's English class is a must! Top notch style. A real desk banger!!! He is thorough, good, and meaningful in his lectures and assignments. I recommend highly!
The best ENGL Prof I've had! There are very few assignments which gives you more than enough time to perfect your submissions. He is easily accessible to meet via Zoom! The assignments include weekly questions, Selecting a Research Topic, Annotated Bibliography, Research Proposal, & Research Presentation.
Professor Thorne was my first college professor and he was amazing. His assigmnets were not difficult, some longer than others, but he had a three day grace period after due date. Grading was clear and not tough and feedback was helpful. He was available outside of class via zoom/teams and answered emails regularly. Take him if you have the chance!
If you can, take him. I took his online course and will now be taking him again next semester. Discussion posts are a min of 350 words, but you don't have to go above that. So many discussion posts that one rocky essay is nothing. I got an A+ and this class barely felt like a class, just something I had to focus on in a day or two, lol.
Easy enough for an online class, just writing essays and discussion posts. Requires a good bit of reading though.
The class itself is not bad, only consists of one research project throughout the whole smester and weekly questions. However, his rubrics are terrible and his feedback is even worse. He expects certain things not stated in the rubric and the feedback is depending on how HE feels and when you fix it he states the same exact thing. Easy grader tho.
Professor Thorne is probably one of my favorite professors! He was always there to help and encouraged you to ask for help. His class consists of assignments for one big research project which has rubrics for what he's looking for. Very straightforward. The class was very easy! An amazing professor for english II. Take him!!
His course is pretty work heavy, but if you do the weekly discussions correctly you'll get an easy 100. The only problem with him is how unqualified he is. He is very unprofessional and rude in emails, about grades. I took this course online, so granite, I ran into a lot of technical issues. But his attitude was uncalled for.
Took online during the summer, not hard at all. Even the biggest assignments I was able to get done in two days when you get up to a week and a half to complete. Gives clear feedback and is not a tough grader, take this class for sure.
Very clear grading criteria. Every week is a section on one massive assignment that at the end is just combined as one big paper for the final. He offered tons of extra credit and gave really good feedback. He always responded to my emails within 24 hours and most of the time within only an hour or so.
Wasn't a hard class, but he has an oddly heavy reliance on AI, to the point where even assignment instructions and rubrics were uploaded as AI "podcasts" that attempt to put assignment details and instructions into a third-person discussion format between two people. It feels unnatural and overcomplicates finding important info quickly.
His online classes are terrible. He is very lazy and his teaching material is almost entirely AI-generated. Each week he has AI-generated "podcasts" that we are supposed to listen to, as well as videos with an AI-generated person speaking. His assignment instructions are also AI-generated however AI use in the course is prohibited.
There is so much AI generated content it's hard to find rubrics. Easier class but be prepared for a lot of useless content to shift through
Take prof. Thorne for 1102! He is so easy to work with. One research essay the whole semester. You have many revisions to it and mini assignments about the one essay. Weekly questions you can ask the professor about assignments that are worth 1 to 2 point each. So very easy extra credit every week. Take him you can't fail unless you want to.
Least organized D2L page i've ever seen in my life. its not that the assignments are difficult but each week it was extremely unclear what was due. It feels like each week there is a new place to turn the assignment in and i got a 0% on 2 assignments because the instructions and submition box were hidden deep in his page. Don't take him.
Great professor that gives good feedback after every assignment. Has you submit questions every week as a grade where you can ask questions you have and he responds to those immiedetly. The assignments are very easy too.
Everything due on Fridays, but most (not all) assignments have a grace period until Monday. Do NOT forget the weekly questions, he will not accept them after Friday night. Gives great feedback and is super accessible outside of class. Answers emails quickly and easily sets up Teams meetings. Overall he's a great professor and very reasonable.
I took professor Thorne online. The entire semester was planning and writing a 2000 word argumentative research paper. Professor Thorne does a really good job preparing you for the paper. What I like about professor Thorne is he encourages the use of AI. Not to write your paper or anything excessive like that, but to help you revise and review.
Dr. Thorne allowed AI to do his work for him, including grading major papers, with the expected results. There were typos and inconsistencies throughout the course, and feedback was very general. Assignments consisted of discussion posts and responses, plus a midterm paper and final. I detested the AI-generated lectures (on Notta).
Dr. Thorne incorporated AI in developing the course material, and as a result, there were inconsistencies and typos throughout. Assignments consisted of discussion posts and responses, plus a midterm paper and final. Four AI detectors reported that AI had written the feedback on my midterm and final. The lectures (Notta-AI) were very repetitive.
He was not useless but was close to it. He used Chat GPT to grade and give us feedback on our assignments. He made class mandatory but we would just sit on our phones not doing any work the entire class period. Waste of 2 hours and 45 minutes. He also made the entire class a group project, and if you're unlucky you're going to fail the entire class
Utterly dependent on AI for everything. Our class materials were AI generated, the feedback he gave was AI generated. Most of the assignments had no concise guidelines, and I felt I was winging it for the entire semester. He expects us to listen to AI generated podcasts to get info on assignments instead of just writing out a rubric himself.
Uses Ai to create weird graphics that often don't even work instead of rubrics, assignments really make zero sense especially compared to my friends who have taken the class w/ a different professor. Not an english class. You write 8 page assignments like once a week and also a seperate 11 page paper.
whatever you do, TAKE THIS CLASS! I genuinely loved this class so much and it was so easy, Proof Thorne and so cool and he's such a sweetheart. The class is a DB post weekly, group actives everyday(super easy) and 2 projects that involve the whole class. An easy A class, he is amazing and so sweet.
Where do I start, this guy doesn't read any emails at all whatsoever. Long story short, I had an A in the class entirely, for the final paper I accidentally submitted the wrong assignment in which he gave me a 'F'. Since there's only like 6 assignments, that means I failed the class. I emailed if I could resubmit and he just ignores. Horrible: 0/10
