Take him during the winter session, he would let us out 2 hours early almost everyday! Hes easy, just do the homework and its an easy B
This was a pretty tough class. Make sure to keep all your tests cuz he screwed me over and gave me a D. I had to find him the following semester and prove that I deserved a B. But, his lecture notes are online so u don't have to go to class!!
Wallis trys very hard to be funny and sometime he succeeds. i find his class to very fun and easy if you do your homework and come to class especially on review days. Hints to passing the test is to review his pass test on his website.
hes a funny guy. Class is entertaining. His tests are fair and his occasional hw questions are easy points. just put out a fair amount of effort and youll get a good grade
Had him during the winter session and he made it worth it. Do the assigned work and you should be ok. Some people really like him, but he can be offensive. Overall I though he was a trip!
I had him for Philosophy of Psychology. I didn't like doing the take home projects, but it gave me a lot of points. There were no exams---all paper. Each one had to be atleast 3 pages. Half of the time, I didn't understand what he was talking about--
Funny. Good teacher overall..Likes to crack jokes but overall easy teacher.....
He loves the subject that he teaches and trys to make it fun. My sugestion would be to take it with a friend, or youll be bored all semester. Tests are easy and he puts the lecture notes on the website. He also tends to wear shirts that are a little too short so watch out! over all nice guy!!!!!
Mumbles to himself all the time. Cant understand what he is talking about. Has a very sweaty and gross back.
very easy! puts all lectures on beachboard so u dont have to even attend class. there's small groups though and the t.a. takes role but thats about it. u have like 10 online homeworks so it's a piece of cake. i'm getting an A & so will you! he gives study guides & the tests are off it. 3 tests only!
Says he teaches to help people and seemed to want to help you think clearly. He challenges your beliefs, so some people might get offended.
This guy is a little crazy, but smart as hell. His humor is dry and his slideshows are corny, but he is always willing to help. No need to go to class, unless you are in college to learn something! In other words, if you are stupid, don't bother coming (you can still get an A), because you will be slowing the whole class down.
stopped showing to class after 2 weeks, got an A. show for the 3 exams (essays, picks 3/4 questions straight from study guide.) no textbook, readings on website, as is the hw. seems like he mumbles to himself a lot, kooky guy, entertaining lecture slides (all posted online) using cartoon characters. definitely recommended if u want an easy A
i HATED this class because of him. he was often late for class, randomly decided to not have class on fridays, which isn't a bad thing, but his lectures were so freaking boring that i stopped going the last month of the semester.
EASY A!
Easy A for sure! Nice guy... kinda cheesy, really dry humor. All in all pretty decent course.
wallis is hilarious. the class itself is pretty boring but he's pretty easy and he keeps everybody laughing. i thought i had a B but he gave me an A with almost no work outside of class. take him
Smart, lectures on web, review questions, practice tests
Not THAT easy. Don't need to buy book. Lecture slides on pwrpt that u can print out. HW everyweek on beachboard. Occassional ex credit. Small group discussion meetings on Fri. 3 exams of 4 short answer essays. Q's come from study questions, but he gave about 10 from each topic, so there was about 40 Qs to study and only 4 were on the test-insane!
Class is boring. He knows his stuff but cant teach it very well. Talks to himself during lectures alot. Has practice tests and lectures online. Self taught with little help from small study session, which was mandatory. Easy i guess.
He's a really nice guy, always answers all your questions. Always cracking jokes in class. All lectures are posted online, you don't need the textbook. Material is sometimes hard to follow so I would recommend attending the small group discussions. Practice tests make studying for the tests so much easier!
he was ok but the class is difficult
Boring lectures, but can get funny at times. The class is very easy, just go to class and study off the practice questions for the tests. That is practically the test!!
NO TEXTBOOK. All lectures are online. There are weekly hw online, but he gives out a lot of extra credit. Attend Friday classes, or you will fail. Tests questions are online, but out of 10 questions, he pick 4, so you don't know which question he is asking. All his tests are ESSAY questions. He is a funny and likeable guy. =)
Good and Intresting Lecturer, just a hard subject to grasp.
The teacher is a nice person. But it is very difficult to grasp the material. If taking this class you will have to dedicate a lot of time. All lecture slides and homework is online. Be sure to attend all small group discussions they are very helpful.
Class was hard for me, some get it and some dont..i never went to lectures because lectures were online, except the mandatory friday classes. the tests are ok if u know what the heck he is actually talking about
Not a very good professor...hard to understand...mumbles a lot...hard subject to grasp...not recommended to take first year...
The lecture slides are online, and I never went to class, only the review sessions and got an A. He is very helpful through email, and with a moderate amount of studying you'll do great!
Funny. Has lots of help for students: slides online, study questions, practice test questions, lecture outlines, summaries of important concepts. You won't do well in this class if you don't want to read or think.
the class was very enjoyable. he is funny and wants people to enjoy the class. lectures are not mandatory but small groups are. he posts his lectures online and they are straight forward and usually include everything you will need to know. don't buy a textbook, it's pointless and not required. homework is pretty easy. tests are difficult if you don't study, but they are straight from the lecture.
The class, the teacher, the material---they're all a mess. Wallis is not clear about what is expected of students. Doesn't clarify at all what we're extracting from the material. My recommendations are to either wait for Tang to get better and take it, but if you must, keep up with the reading and ask a LOT of question IN CLASS.
Took class during summer and it was ez. Bought the book and only use it to do HW. Test pretty much ez. He gives you past test. I just study those and got A's. He is a funny teach whom pick on every1 during class and make fun of them.
He's a horrible teacher thats a bore. Theres a lot of typo's in his notes.
Horrible teacher. Hard to understand what he says and wants. The lecture slides are really confusing because he tries to make them funny. I don't recommend taking him at all.
He is a garbage teacher that shouldn't be called a teacher. I don't understand a word he's saying and I get A on the test without a lecture. No textbok, but if you take him be prepared to fall a sleep and stair at his damn dog he brings to class.
by far the worst teach ive ever had in my entire educational career.
He mumbles a lot. and brings his dog to class with is really distracting. His lecture slides are in the form of cartoons and are SO hard to understand. The only way i passed the class is the Friday small group sessions because the GA told us what would be on the test.
He is so confusing in lecture. You must sit in front of the class to fully understand what he is saying. He tends to ramble on, but read the readings beforehand and it will help you understand what he is lecturing about. Always attend GA activity help. GA's and study sessions are the ones that will help you pass the class.
you dont really need to attend class. take advantage of the fact that he puts the lectures and study questions with answers online. the tests are essays. I didnt think it was too hard, but it definitely requires a lot of studying the night before the test. Attend the GA class, they pretty much give you the questions and answers to the test.
WELL HE WAS FUN BUT STILL BORING
as those before me have written, GO TO THE GA MEETINGS! they help the most. wallis is incomprehensible. uses too many big words and has a hard time explaining himself. everyone did poorly on the first test. going to the lectures was pointless, but i did anyway. he seems kind of bias toward religion. he was funny but the dog was distracting. AVOID!
The professor was difficult to understand and wasn't clear. He also brought his dog to every class which was very distracting. The only advice I can give you is to go to the GA meetings on Friday.. it's the only way to understand what's going on. Going to the regular lecture isn't necessary because all the slides are posted online.
He is smart, intelligent and awesome :) His lecture notes are well prepared and he's frequently updated his notes before each class. Take his class! His class is actually not that harsh.
pretty easy class. don't need a next book for his class. All the readings are on his web site. The hw/ec he gives us is online, multiple choice. Really easy. His tests are essay questions. Not that hard. Hard to understand his lectures so I didn't really attend. Attendance is a must when you are with his GA's. GA's are more understandable. Got an A
Hi is HORRIBLE!!! he stares at the floor the whole time and you cannot hear anything that he says. Sit in the front of the lecture, and if you get a T.A. that doesn't make sence, switch. that is where you learn everyting.
his jokes are funny, if you understand them. hes kinda schizo, paces alot. the GA discussion are the only time attendance counts and they teach you everything. he seems like he would be a really good upper division teacher but sometimes forgets it is lower division. every test is blue book. just know your terms and listen to the GA's
There was no way I was going to walk away from this class without an A. I had to put up with his nonsensical lectues and f-ing crazy ass dog for a whole semester. The guy acts like he's a misunderstood genius on campus, but all he is a failed wannabe arena football star. (And I obtained this information from the teacher's pet.) Don't take him.
If you want to get your money's worth get a different professor. He is UNORGANIZED, laughs at his own jokes, brought his dog to class which was a distraction, did i mention UNORGANIZED...cause seriously he is...totally waste of time and his lectures are not up to date..all in all HORRIBLE!
the GAs will save you in this class. You dont have to go to Wallis's lectures and they are posted online for you. GO to the GA meetings and you will be fine. Tests were hard but do-able. The overall subject stinks and i think the class could have been a lot harder so take him to get this class over with!! oh and you dont have to buy any text books!
Definitely not the greatest teacher. I maintained a GPA of 4.0 in high school, but willingly chose to fail this class because I hated his teaching method so much... and all those homework assignments and lecture slides with typos, wrong due dates... If you get a good GA, you will be able to pass... if you get a bad GA, like myself,... yikes.
Absolutely ridiculous. Consistently says "and uh..." and doesn't get his point across. Bipolar. Definitely a great class to nap in for those who suffer from insomnia. ;] Facebook and Myspace all you want. His powerpoints are loaded with corny and irrelevant information. Don't take him for the small meetings-- actually, don't take him period.
His lectures were confusing a at times. But he posts them online. Go to the GA meetings! Tests are hard. Study, especially the night before the tests. You don't need a text book.
horrible. lectures straight from powerpoints which are online. difficult to understand since he mumbles and always looks at the floor. GAs are helpful; go to GA meetings-some clairity there. take someone else if at all possible!
WOW! We took a test in the beginning of the year, and didn't get it back until towards the end and had to puch out three more test in the last month. DON'T TAKE HIM!Unorganized, annoying. Just don't take him. You've been warned.
I hated this class. Attendance is not mandatory, only on Fridays, when we met with his GAs, who were much more helpful than him. His lectures were hard, and so were the tests. They are short answer tests, and I just relied on the GAs lectures. This class is confusing, but I had to take it for a business major.
tests are really hard and the GAs are a lot more helpful!
I could not stand him at first, but he's a smart guy and funny (sometimes). He's not that clear when he speaks, so goodluck. You have to work hard if you want an A, mainly just memorization. I don't think I'd recommend this class honestly, but if you want a challenge, go for it! AND PLEASE GO TO DISCUSSIONS WITH HIS GAs. You'll need it, trust me!
It is difficult to understand his lectures. It's very important to attend the Friday classes, because the GA's break down what the lectures are about. Attendance is mandatory. I did not pass the class and I advise you to not take this professor.
This class takes a lot of dedication. Wallis is hilarious and charismatic. There are only four test and easy multiple choice HW which is online. However, you have to really study for the test because the topic is generally confusing. His T.As are the ones that really help you but you only see them for 50 min once a week. Good luck
This is by no means an easy class, but a very fulfilling one. Lecture style is a bit different (presented as a dialogue between the philosopher and usually a cartoon character). Attendance technically isn't mandatory, but you probably can't pass without it. The GA meetings on Fridays are EXTREMELY helpful. Very funny, sometimes unclear.
This professor is very hard to understand. From what ive heard the GAs are supposed to be helpful but mine didnt seem like he knew what he was doing. he sat there and just pretty much talked to himself
PHIL 382 is a survey class of epistemology, spanning ancient Western epistemology (i.e. Plato) to contemporary Western epistemology; with an emphasis on the latter. I would highly recommend this class if you are interested in graduate school for philosophy, otherwise I wouldn't take this class.
Really difficult material to understand. His lecture slides are also difficult to understand, because they are worded very strangely (bad grammar, run-ons). More often than not, his lecture slides talk in circles to try to fit the "conversation" between a person and the cartoon character. Study for his tests - they require elaborate answers.
Hard material but he tries to help. Provides all lectures online, many questions to study from, will answer any questions at his office hours (will even stay late). The tests are straight from the lectures and reading online (no textbook) and are 3 questions in essay format. Attendance counts towards grade but doesn't check everyday. Very dry humor and sarcastic. Overall I recommend him if you are willing to think and study hard with good effort.
He lectures and you leave. Take good notes and go to the study sessions before tests, they are very helpful. He puts up study guides, sample tests, and homework on beach board so check it regularly because as you well know profs wont tell you when something is due. Four tests total three questions each short answers be specific give examples. Easy.
Monotonous but subject is interesting enough to keep you interested. The GAs grade arbitrarily. Got marked down for not using a certain
Spends too much time degrading himself and trying to make people laugh. Sometimes it's funny, but he's too excessive about it. His GA's are much more helpful than he is. Test grading is very precise and it's pretty brutal. His lectures are pretty awkward and the slides make it hard to understand. Just really awkward. No huge red flags though.
Hard material to understand and talks in circles during his power points. Attendance required for 10% of grade but optional textbook (you don't need it). Provides many study questions and they really help. He posts his lectures online which is useful to study with. Gives homework once a week which add up and offers a lot of extra credit opportunities. He words his examples very lengthy and wordy so you need to break them down. 4 tests all with 3 questions in essay format. Hard grader. Got a B.
Spare yourself and do not take this class.
Half the class dropped him in the first week and those who remained chose to sit in the back of the class leaving the first two or three rows empty..That's how bad it was...
He's a lot to handle. This class takes severe dedication. Go to class & sit close. There's weekly homework but tons of extra credit! He has review sessions before exam days- go to them! The GA's do grade really tough. Take advantage of the practice essay questions & lecture slides he posts online!! Got an A so I know what I'm talking about.
hard to understand, test grading is BRUTAL. This class gave me my first C ever. wallis is a nice guy, funny, and generous with extra credit, but spare yourself and try to avoid taking this for a G.E.
Very difficult class. Get the textbook, that's the best way to get through. He's not helpful. Going to his office hours is daunting. Really funny and cool in class, but has some views on life that might bother some people. Be wary.
Pretty tough class. You have to make sure you fully understand the topics that are being covered. Go to S.I that's where I learned everything!! Nice teacher.. I barely got a B
Lectures were boring to say the least and power points were very difficult to understand being as they were in cartoon form. Tests aren't very difficult as long as you do the reading and take his pre-tests. However, I do not recommend him.
I expected this class to be a challenge, There is no textbook, as he is in the process of writing one himself, but the text really doesn't help all that much with tests and labs so be prepared to do extra research if you really want to understand what he's talking about. Slow to respond to emails, and even then, not very helpful or clear.
miserable experience. 1st day, he showed a bunch of depressing facts and figures. the material was super hard to grasp. and he has this super complicated and confusing way of assigning homewotk
He's such a bad teacher. His grading is psychotic to say the least and his study guides might as well be in arabic because you can't understand it and it won't help you on the test either. Words of wisdom, if you're smart....Don't take this class.
Hated this class at first. Lectures were boring, couldn't understand his teaching method. Eventually, I realized he actually cared about his students' educations. Gave us extra credit to boost our grades, made sure we understood material. Overall, good teacher. Learned a lot, class became my favorite and now I really enjoy logic. MUST STUDY!
He's very funny and interesting! He can be negative at times, but he keeps class fun. The homework is easy and he gives a lot of extra credit. No need for the book but it's veryyyy helpful! I recommend him he's very nice but at times cynical. Easiest class in college so far.
Mr. Wallis knows a lot about politics and at times funny. Boring lectures but he happily answers questions if you don't understand the material. Sign-in sheets for attendance. Three tests and a final. He provides extra credit, which boosts your test scores. He informed the class when the trustees raised our tuition fees, showing he actually cares.
Very hard class. His teaching methods are extremely abstract. If you want to pass this class you must have the book! He has weird themed powerpoints, gives online extra-credit reviews before exams(2 pts). Difficult material. Examples in textbook are helpful but are not like exams. Boring lectures. Goes off topic. I don't recommend taking him.
Too hard for a G.E. class, you can really find a better professor. Dear god, this was the first class I actually had to study for. II hated it. He is hilarious and has a dark sense of humor, but even that can't save you from how boring his lectures are.
This is a difficult critical thinking course in my opinion. The material is not hard, but the way it is presented in class can make it extremely confusing. This instructor has a dark sense of humor which is a plus but overall the lectures can be very boring. I would not recommend taking this class with this instructor.
His lectures are very boring, but he has a nice sense of humor. Tests are easy if you study. All material is online. His teaching is very hard to follow, so I ended up teaching myself from the book and slides. Wouldn't recommend.
Professor Wallis doesn't only prepare you for critical thinking, he prepares you for life. Every lesson I learned in the class has proven useful. The class can be a little boring at times, but he's willing to lighten the mood and is pretty funny. Go to his office hours and do the extra credit. Textbook is not needed at all to secure an A.Take HIM!
He's a really nice and helpful guy. Gives you A LOT of extra credit and if you don't do it, that's on you. He's pretty easy, you just have to study it. I slacked off the entire semester and did most of the extra credit. He had review sessions for the final test and I ended up going from a Fail to a C! He has a sense of humor, so that helps.
EXTREMELY monotone, his lectures are the worst I've ever experienced. If you ask a question he runs off on a tangent, for the love of god, take another professor.
He was disorganized, lectures were not helpful, would give homework assignments before he truly lectured on the material, and grading on homework assignments was random. I recommend taking anyone else for this class.
I thought he was really easy! I enjoyed going to class. He made it fun and yes he would get off topic but he would help you with every little problem you had and he would do study sessions before each exams, which helps. I would recommend him!!! He made everything easy to understand and its also a good idea to read the book.
His lectures are INCREDIBLY long and boring. He is very helpful and has extra (optional) classes to review before tests and also gives out practice tests for extra credit that are almost identical to the test. It is pretty easy to pass this class but it is awfully boring to sit through his lectures. I would recommend this class for an easy pass.
Content of class is hard. He's very helpful and will go out of his way to help you understand. Lectures can be kind of boring, but I personally just didn't like philosophy in general. He makes some funny jokes
Not clear with assignments and lectures. Does not use Beachboard which sucks. Randomly takes attendance for credit so class is mandatory but super boring!! If there is another teacher available I would recommend taking them especially if you don't want to put much effort in the class.
Don't get me wrong, I'll tell you right off the bat that this glass is tough. Philosophy in general is a tough class. I loved Wallis though. He's kind of a dry sarcastic guy, but he cares. If you go to the reviews before test and ASK for help, you will pass. I can genuinely say I learned a lot.
Took Wallis for the Spring 2015 semester and lost interest on the way. Wallis himself is a very cool and funny guy. Isn't a grump or mean but the class and the lectures were very boring. He has his own website that has all of his work, lecture slides, calendar and schedule but you're still going to need to put in a lot of effort and OT to pass.
Wallis is a very funny man and you will find yourself laughing a lot in his class if you can manage to stay awake. He has a monotone voice which makes it hard for people to focus. If you pay attention you should pass because the books aren't much help. For the first half of class we used a textbook that he wrote. Takes random attendance for points.
His class is not a tough class to pass but definitely challenges your thoughts on philosophy. He challenges us as students while keeping the lectures light and humorous.
He's very unclear in his lectures. I feel like he talks in circles, never really answering the questions we have. I hardly understand his lectures versus the textbook reading we're assigned. I thought I did everything right and I still did badly...
Not a very good teacher. He talks for a long time, but it does not relate to his tests. I used the book to help me with the tests because the lecture notes does not correlate with the questions.
Pretty boring class. Definitely have to do a lot of reading and studying if you want to pass. The tests are very relaxed. If you actually study and read the textbook, you'll get a good grade. He's a funny and cool guy which is good.
Honestly the first couple days of class I was very lost. He has power points that are very complicated. No bullet points, just a lot of paragraphs. He does have extra credit online so DO IT! He also has reviews which are super helpful so GO TO THEM. He gives homework but it's not much. I honestly thought I was going to fail his class but got an A.
Wallis is a great professor and goes out of his way to help students. Although philosophy in general may be challenging, Wallis provides many resources to study from (past exams, review sessions, EC practice)and his exams are based on the homework and lectures. His lectures may seem all over the place at first, but they're easy to get used to.
1st couple classes seem horrible but don't worry. Takes time to learn his teaching style&go2 to class to get the material -dont try to learn on your own, attendance is all it takes. He's gone through a lot in his past&even so he's a very humble, caring professor w/a unique but hilarious sense of humor. Hands down 1 of my favorite instructors ever.
Wallis is so funny and passionate! This class can be an easy A, but you better do all the homework/extra credit/study really hard for the NINE tests!
he gives you a study guide for all (3) exams; i got As on all of them. homework is harder than the tests - pay attention to his lecture slides and youll definitely pass the class bonus: he gives out SO much extra credit... it boosted my solid B to a solid A also, no textbook required! reading off of his slides is good enough
He's quite annoying, but can occasionally be funny. His lectures are insanely boring and you can probably learn it all on your own through the links and readings he posts online, but he does attendance spot checks that are worth points, so show up to get attendance points. Wasn't the worst class, but wasnt good either.
Horrible teacher, nice guy. but avoid taking him at all costs, super boring and old school guy in the most out dated classroom at CSULB, feel like he is talking in circles, does not use beach board so not clear on when assignments are due, so many assignments and tests, DO NOT take him unless you really like critical thinking, but he is not good
There are 7 test that are worth 70% of your grade. The first two are only worth 5% total and the 3rd is worth 9%, so the more important ones are tests 4-7 which are 14% each. Attendance is 10% and HW is 20%. He gives out tons of extra credit, do them all. Just study for the tests, go to class, go to his review sessions, do Hw, and do all extra cred
One of the most boring Class yet to be taken. He gives out a lot of homework and THERE ARE 7 TESTS That are 70% of your grade. 10% attendance and the 20% is the homework. He explains everything in class but if you miss something you will never be able to cover it up. ALSO HE IS NEVER ACCESSIBLE OUTSIDE THE CLASS. In short don't take him.
7 exams, 15 homework assignments, and 10 random attendance checks. His practice exams look exactly like his actual exams and he gives a lot of extra credit. His lectures are boring but he's caring and understanding.
Dont take his online class. He procrastinates on posting the work you need to get done for the week, giving you less time to complete it. I nearly fall asleep during his lecture videos. Hes one of those profs to make an easy GE class absolutely miserable. Dont take him.
Absolutely the most bland professor I've ever had. His lectures literally sound like he is mumbling and he goes on and on and on and on without a recap and makes things more difficult than they really are. BUY THE BOOK because he is terrible at explaining reasons and gives way too many online quizzes for literally anyone to care.
I only had him for a week and I was completely lost. He rambles on and on about I don't even know what. Drop his class if you can.
Wallis is a good professor. He clearly knows what he's talking about, but he has very high standards for his undergrads and the entire class is based on his own textbook. There isn't much room for any lenience. He does care about his students and offers some extra credit that slightly helps out. He's all right.
Very boring and unclear lectures although he does try his best for people to understand. Just buy the book and study and you should be good.
Wallis is an expert on cognitive science and the philosophy of mind and is an excellent resource and an interesting lecturer. However, this was the cause of an issue. Put simply, his work is too advanced for a semester class for undergrads. The writings are stellar but challenging. Overall, expect to pass, don't expect to become an expert yourself.
This was the WORST class I have taken in my life. I never fail my classes but this class was the most difficult, unnecessary, and outrageously terrible EVER His lectures are excessively boring with his confusing slides in COMIC SANS and too much text and Of course he gives extra credit but it wont help you if you dont do well in your tests.
GREAT person, awful professor :( If you want to do well in this class, find a study group and teach each other the content because whether you listen to his lectures or not, you're going to have to teach yourself at the end of the day anyways. He offers a lot of extra credit and study sessions so take advantage of that. Attendance is taken randomly
He's very intelligent! So much so his readings are hard to understand. Interesting lectures, but in order to really understand the material you must pay attention in class. There are quizzes every week on the chapters you should have read the week before, to save you time from reading 50+ page chapters go to lecture and pay attention!
I truly hated this class. Wallis is intelligent (very rude during office hours) but unable to clearly explain the material. He talks in circles and the lectures are extremely hard to decipher. I taught myself by the book and online videos and was frustrated I paid for a class I had to teach myself. Avoid this professor at all costs.
Absolutely the worst professor/instructor I have ever had. Rude in office hours, disorganized, unclear, impatient. Obviously very knowledgable about philosophy but literally has no teaching abilities. Pessimistic, doesn't even encourage trying to enjoy his class. Do not take a class with him.
The lectures were very heavy in information and sometimes monotonous. Although the textbook was not required, it became very helpful in understanding the content of the lectures. Wallis randomly takes attendance throughout the semester. He gives a lot of resources and offers a lot of help to do the exams. He posts previous tests which helped a lot.
Professor Wallis is super chill but the material of his class is very difficult to understand. I think I'm the only one who thought he was funny, but he makes good jokes from time to time. His lectures are kinda boring still. Lots of extra credit opportunity and not a lot of homework/exams. Do the homework or you will not pass. No midterm or final.
Stay FAR AWAY from this prof. Ridiculously unorganized, rude, inconsiderate & EXTREMELY BORING!! lectures are incredibly over complex for no reason at all! Makes you reference his own written stuff but it's information heavy and difficult to understand. SO MANY ASSIGNMENTS. google taught me more than him! He's the worst prof. I've EVER encountered!
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. Please do yourself a favor and don't take this god awful class. Especially his online class because it is such a waste of time and energy. All you will be doing in this class is read these long, boring documents he made and do homework and quizzes. He doesn't even offer Zoom lectures for some reason so you teach yourself.
You can genuinely tell Dr. Wallis loves to teach. He's extremely caring and understanding and will try his best to help you succeed/pass! There's a lot of extra credit for this class so take advantage of it, but you HAVE to read and watch through his video lectures. Don't take this class if you're not willing to work for your grade.
Don't take if you're not willing to work for it. The professor himself is amazing, the concept itself is hard. I'd say focus more on lectures rather than reading. If he makes any mistakes just email him. Super understanding and cares for his student. Check for mistakes in test just in case,he's dyslexic so he may be mistaken. Down to earth!Take EC!
This class is fairly easy. As long as you read his online textbook (provided as a PDF by chapter) and occasionally the actual textbook, the homework and quizzes are really easy. It does get progressively more difficult, but it is still extremely manageable. He had a schedule of when everything would be due from the very beginning, which I liked.
The material itself is not exactly difficult but the way he explains them feels like he is making it harder than it actually is. Overall pretty standard online course but be prepared to work more than expected, especially if you have never taken a philosophy class before.
I have nothing against Mr. Wallis, I just prefer in person classes so the format was what I struggled with the most. None of the classes are mandatory and the whole course is basically asynchronous. He is always available during office hours though! I would suggest to take advantage of the extra credit assignments, and manage your time accordingly!
I absolutely hated this class. It definitely felt like a foreign language that was just unspeakable. The prof uses his own textbook so if you get it you get it, if you don't you don't. All the homework was quiz formatted and every single assignment was worth 3 points. The lecture videos and example problems were nothing like the actual exams.
Wow. He clearly knows his stuff. Lectures are confusing. Straightforward philosophy concepts will have you confused and feeling helpless. I ultimately gave up on attending his lectures and deciphered the material myself. Lots of extra credit which was helpful. Avoid him. He truly should not be teaching undergrads or maybe anybody.
He teaches from his own self written text book. So he is fluent in this language that he created and only he understands majority of the time. Good luck keeping up. The lectures and literature are very dense. Class is boring, no activity at all. Show up and sit and watch him read from a power point. Cool guy, awful class. Save yourself
Really smart guy, extremely helpful. Problem is, he can be very dry. He lectures like the teacher from Ferris Bueller. Since his lectures can be found online, class attendance is abysmal. He's a fair grader but expects a legitimate university level student to take his course. Tons of reading but if you're savvy, you can bypass most of it.
Talks in a manner that is beyond himself. Can barely understand him because he tries too hard to sound smart. The worst part is that he writes all the material himself. The material wouldn't be hard but can't understand any of the test questions, homework, readings etc. Makes test only available on Saturday too. Absolute worst teacher ever.
Terrible teacher, writes his own material and requires students to use it. Tests are 70% of your grade. Requires you to read 30+ pages weekly of his own material
Awful teacher. Writes his own material which basically only makes sense to him. Tries to force way to many big words in his tests/material, not even sure its grammatically correct anymore. The class average on the last two tests was 60% and like 50 something. Supposed to be a lower level PHIL class. Complete waste of time and money.
The professor is cool but incredibly difficult. 70% of your grade depends on 7 tests which are incredibly difficult. Texts are dense and often filled with examples that go on for 1-3 pages while providing nothing. He writes his own textbooks and they are written in a manner that makes them hard to understand. Do not take it if you don't need to.
do not take this professor you will regret it. he makes no sense in his lectures at all and confuses the heck out of everyone by making the material so much harder than it is. tests are so hard. dont even bother asking questions either cause his answer will confuse you more. dont take his class. you have been warned.
lectures are hard to follow. Very long weekly reading assignments. 15 homework assignments,7 tests,14 extra credit opportunities, and 5 participation. The content for most tests was hard to grasp, but he does well at giving extra credit and additional support individually. He will also work with your situation. very kind, understanding person.
This class was kinda confusing ngl, cause he teaches from his own textbook and the reading and lectures were very tedious. However, during the zoom office hours I think that he did genuinely want his students to understand these topics and ask questions on them so he's not a bad professor.
The textbook wasn't really necessary I'm glad I never bought it. Very accessible during office hours. There are short 10-question weekly quizzes with optional extra credit, one short midterm paper answering prompt questions, and a final with the same structure as the midterm. The quizzes have very very dense jargon so take your time.
This class was all online no zoom (unless you had questions). You just keep taking quizzes and homework that are all multiple choices. All lectures were on videos, so just work at your own pace. Overall wasn't a helpful or engaging teacher and I do recommend to switch teachers.
Quiz every week and sometimes more than 1. There were literally so many extra credit quizzes tho. Really helped in the end. He wasn't hard tho in the end
Not bad lectures can be sometimes boring overall easy class. Quizzes every week
Online lectures are all over the place and hard to follow most of the time. He uses weirs characters in his lectures that make no sense and make it more difficult to follow. Not very helpful, would recommend a different teacher 100%.
The lectures were all over the place and hard to follow. The professor's own textbook and teaching style made the class very confusing. However, the extra credit quizzes helped towards the end. unstuckstudy was a lifesaver for study prep.
