Go to class. The class is too easy not to. Weller likes to get philosophical during his lectures, and he will go on power trips if people are on the internet (or doing anything other than note-taking) during class. Overall a nice guy though.
Doesn't talk much about the actual topics. Very easy class though. Likes to go on philosophical rants and talk about himself. if you want to learn about the subject don't take this class. If you want an easy A take it.
Good teacher.
Took Gened 110 with him. Ridiculously easy class, if you just show up. He does take attendance, and claims you can only miss two classes. Often pushes back the deadlines for papers and online quizzes. Gave all the answers for the midterm ahead of time. He does get a bit overly dramatic when people use computers for things other than note taking.
Gets too philosophical during class. Talks more about culture than historical events.
He is so energetic. Always a music before the class start. Easy assignment
Great teacher. Knows how to explain the topic in current terms, instead of exact dates. Helped me learn to enjoy History. Very easy class as well. He is a bit philosophical but it is very fun to watch and listen to. I suggest him!!
Though I'm still in Weller's class, I'd like to rate him anyway. I was surprised when I found out that his rating was just a 3 point something. It should be a solid 5! He always gives you a second chance to turn in ANYTHING and his exams? Practically gives you the answers really. Overall, Weller is an awesome teacher.
loved this teach his class is incredibly easy gives answers to everything and is really flexible about assignments
This guy is sooo dope. He's super chill and laid back and makes it very easy for you to get a good grade! I'm taking him for GenEd111 for sure!
Do not take this guy. This is history as taught by Travel Channel, as all he does is show films. He's obsessed with central Asia. He also takes away 5% of your total grade for googling something in class, and 6% for ONE absence! It took him six weeks to get his class material together, bouncing around from website to website!
He's an amazing teacher. Extremely positive, brightens your day, welcomes you every morning. Happy to do his job. Very open to all his students. If you ask for second chances, he's the perfect teacher for yah!
He really cares about his students...he even bought pizzas for all of his class once. He offers 10% of extra credit and pretty much does everything he can to help the class and make sure grades are high. He does show videos so if you can't deal with those don't take it, but videos are really useful in history classes bc you see the info 1st hand
Great teacher, cares about his students, keeps it interesting, a lot of busy work, but not to hard to keep up with. A lot of Extra Credit. A nice college class. :)
Prof Weller is a wonderful teacher. Really has the students best intentions in mind and should become a motivational speaker. He always brightens up my day. He has an amazing voice and musical skills as well. He writes songs with his students being his inspiration and sings them in class. Great experience with hime and am looking forward to 111
The easiest teacher I've ever had! Practically gives you the answers for exams, gives numerous extra credit opportunities, and by the end of the semester he completely got rid of all the absences he counted toward students. He is a great motivational speaker and really has the students best interest in mind. Seriously the easiest class ever!
Professor Weller is an excellent person, who really cares for his students and will do everything to help. He is very motivational. I would recommend him.
Weller is an awesome teacher & person. He really cares about students, not as students but as people. He's a nice guy and his class is inspiring. He really cares about the "human experience" & how our personal life history is important. He even sings & dedicates songs to his classes! Good class, great guy.
His assignments are extremely easy but don't expect to learn too much. He likes to play a lot of movies in class, his lectures are hard to follow, and to finish assignments all you have to do is find where he got the question from the book.
he is the best teacher ever!his class is easy.as long as you go to class and pay attention you will get an A. he is super nice and easy going. you can learn more than knowledge in his class! he always encourage people~best teacher in wsu~
So, Weller is a super easy teacher. Basically if you want an A, you'll get an A. Takes attendance but doesn't enforce deadlines. Keeps answers to all tests/quizzes online AND reviews answers IN class. However, don't expect to learn ANYTHING
If you do all your assignments you will pass the class he also gives you opportunities to get extra credit.
Easy professor to get along with and he gives out extra credit opportunities. As along as you do your homework, you'll be fine.
Weller is a great teacher as long as you don't want to learn anything. None of his lectures will teach you anything your basic education wouldn't which makes his tests fairly easy (which are all pulled straight from the book btw). He cares about his students but he'll go of in random tangents about his life which are interesting but useless.
Weller's hist 105 class is the easiest class i have taken for years. he takes attendence so you have to go but all you do in his class is sit there and he rambles about god knows what. get this class though definitely. all you do is an occasional paper and weekly online tests that you can cheat on. easyyyy
Prof Weller truly cares about his students and encourages us to learn about subject that are interesting to the class. He is very open to suggestions and student feedback. He is passionate about creating a positive classroom community. I came into class not knowing much about middle eastern history and left with a lot of knowledge.
Professor Weller is the nicest guy in the world! He actually cares about his students and loves his job. His course taught me many things about history but it also helped prep me to college life. It actually made me want to attend class! He is the best.
AWESOME PROFESSOR!! Dr. Weller's class was my favorite one to go to. Everyday he had an inspiration thought at the beginning of class and he cared for every student. If you took the time to go to class and pay attention, there was so much you could learn! I would recommend him to anyone! GO COUGS!!
Dr. Weller is by far the best professor I have ever had at WSU. He truly cares about each and every one of his students and shows this by learning everyones name within the first week. He is willing to do whatever it takes to make sure everyone passes and actually learns. Make sure you attend class! I was lucky enough to take two of his courses!
Dr. Weller is fantastic. He really has a great background to history and how he can relate it to modern day events. He stuck to the book on all occasions and he made assignments and what should be studied very clear. His personal experiences really add to the lectures and he really cares for his students. I loved him. Take his course
Professor Weller does a great job at connecting you to life and yourself through history--if you pay attention. He teaches with energy and utilizes the textbook as a tool for outside, general learning. In class, he offers a more expansive, involved knowledge of the world given his many travels throughout his life. It made for a different class.
Personally I learned a lot from Dr. Weller. He approaches material from all angles and will answer any question. His classes are easy but fun and productive
Great teacher, probably the most enthusiastic about the course material that I have ever had. You must pay attention in lecture to see how he ties topics together, but his style will develop a thorough understanding far beyond simple fact memorization. Also a highly accommodating prof who is willing to work with you if scheduling conflicts occur.
Professor Weller is a very intelligent individual. He has a lot of respectful achievements and has done some very interesting things in his respected field. He makes class enjoyable and interesting. Truly passionate about each topic and makes it easy for the class to understand material.
Dr. Weller is a truly great guy, with a true passion for his students and the topics he covers. His constant enthusiasm made me look forward to class. He takes a really balanced approach to topics, somehow fitting a huge amount of information into understandable chunks that never get overwhelming.
Dr Weller is a great guy. He is fair in grading and work he gives out. Some of the work seems like busy work but it really does help. He has a ton of life experience from his travels and he relates his travels to the content when he can and it is amazing to listen to. Made a class I didn't want to take into a very enjoyable experience and grade.
Dr. R.C. Weller is a fantastic teacher and even better person. He cares about the welfare of his students and does everything he can to ensure your success in the class. If you have the option of taking the History 105 course at WSU, do your best to get this professor. He has helped to make me successful in school and be better prepared overall.
Dr Weller is one of the best teachers I have had in all my years of schooling. He is energetic and connects well with his students. His class is fair and he spends IMMENSE amounts of time making sure all opinions are heard. More importantly than just being a great teacher, he is a great man. He creates great projects that connect students.
Loved loved this class. Easy A. Teaches good. Not to much homework. Looked forward to class.
I just want to say that I think Dr. Weller was an awesome professor when I took History 105. If you have an option of who to pick as a teacher, pick him. He is extremely helpful. He has a very interesting and fun way of teaching! He does take attendance but it is because he does important things during class that you would miss otherwise.
I did not enjoy this class. Everyone kept telling me that he was amazing but I got the feeling the entire time I was in class that he kept trying to convert me. He might have just been passionate but it was uncomfortable for me.
AS A INTERNATIONAL STUDENT, I GOT AN A EASILY.HE IS AWESOME!!!
Very good teacher, overall he cares about his students which is what every student loves. He sincerely cares if you do well in the class or not. Good Professor.
Great teacher but terrible class. I have not learned anything from this class, he doesn't do normal note taking for lectures, he gives you a paper that you have to fill out and a lot of the time he doesn't answer all the questions. Lots of reading, and even more writing. Don't take if you want an easy class.
Very easy class, but the teacher sucked. He is very odd and irritating, but the class itself is extremely easy, mostly because so many people have taken it before that it isn't hard to get a lot of help.
This professor is a great teacher and a really interesting dude. He's really passionate about the material which is actually quite interesting if you pay attention. There are lots of quizzes/assignments but the in class notes are multiple choice handouts. Great class as long as you don't slack off and participate.
Only professor that I have had to memorize everyone's names in class. Knowledgeable, interesting, and easy to get along with.
This is the most inspirational man I have met. He is so awesome. Every friday we do a GO COUGS chant, he plays his guitar in class, and you write a paper about your life history. Every student matters to him and he is awesome. Wish he could be my professor for every class!!!
The course is supposed to cover a variety of topics, but since he specializes in Islam his lectures always circle back to that. It's an easy (boring) class, just have to turn the assignments in on time.
Genuinely cared about each individual in the class, and actually made the effort to try to remember people's names. Weekly quizzes online, which aren't difficult at all. Only really need to come to class for minor attendance points, and to do the in-class question sheets, which you only do every once in a while. Unique class for an easy A!
Second week of class, one day this guy was still spaced out staring into the corner 5 minutes after class had started. Super passionate about the topics, but will mark you down for the smallest of details on assignments. Lots of reading required.
Dr. Weller is a professor that has the power to evolve your perspective on History and the world as we know it. He brings his incredible background and experiences to the classroom which makes the course more interesting and valuable. He genuinely cares about his students and is very fair on grading. I highly recommend enrolling in his class.
The best Professor that I had ever have. Giving you the real world history that you didn't get it in your school. The lectures are fun and helpful and if you want to take History class take it with Dr. Weller.
Dr. Weller is great! He's very passionate and loves to teach about a side of history that gets avoided most of the time. Some lectures can be dry, but his tests are based on the handouts he gives in class, so go! The papers aren't fun, but aren't bad. He really guides you through it and wants you to pass.
The amazing part of this class is the amazing extra credit
Dr. Weller is a great teacher! He is very passionate about the subject, although he does like to call on people a lot so you do have to pay attention and be able to answer questions. Besides that, he is really fun and outgoing and makes going to class fun. There are a lot of readings every week though, but also a lot of extra credit! He's awesome.
the Greatest professor ever . interesting lecture . Strongly recommend take HIS 105 with him . easy quizes, easy papers , not strict grader . He respects everyone . Amazing class Ever . I wish I can take it many time. not boring at all . take it with him to get easy +A .
Dr. Weller is by far number one when it comes to teachers to take for HISTORY 105. His class is reasonable to get an A in if you try, lectures are interesting, and very fair minded. Definitely recommend taking this professor for HIS 105 or 305
I love Dr. Weller so much. He's a hippie in a suit, basically. The assignments for this class definitely take some work but they're not necessarily HARD and I've never had any real problems. He has the perfect personality for a professor and has somehow found a way to make me actually interested in the course material.
Dr. Weller is an amazing Professor. He cares a lot about his students and is very passionate about history and his studies. He made going to class enjoyable and made you actually want to be there. After seeing some of my other Professors, I wish I could go back to this class and have a good Professor again. Truly awesome dude.
This dude is absolutely hilarious, he offers a bunch of extra credit and grades assignments extremely easy. This class involves some busy work but it usually takes up to an hour to two hours a week at MOST. He is a weird guy and will sing and meditate in class.
Real easy grader. Turned in my FRP expecting a 60/70 and got a 90. Nice guy as well
Weller is the best professor I ever had. The lecture is really amazing and you will love to attend his class. I got 101% because he gave us many extra credits.
The Prof is so cool and amazing. easy A class just do everything as he asks and does not miss anything. he is helpful and answers any question in lecture and if you are in trouble he will help you as the best he can. but the problem there is 15 quizzes and a 3 LRA so you will work a lot on it. honestly, one of the best classes, I had taken in WSU.
Do not take.
If you're taking history 105 you must take it with WELLER! He is one charming old man, gives extra credit, and is passionate about what he teaches. Makes learning history fun and enjoyable.
Dr. Weller is a really great history professor. He understands a lot about the middle east and it is very helpful when learning about that subject. However, if you are confused about assignments/don't understand something in the syllabus be weary about asking because his ego gets in the way sometimes. Otherwise, do all the work, & follow directions
Caring and informative professor. Asked him for a letter of recommendation I was going to use for three completely different internship applications, he took it upon himself to write me three unique letters of rec! Highly respected and brilliant, would take again and again.
Dr. Weller is the most amazing professor I have ever had. He is so passionate about what he teaches, and cares immensely about each and every one of his students. Very inspirational, has taught me many life lessons. Older dude who is super chill, take him and it will be the best decision you've made at WSU.
Dr. Weller is the best professor I've ever had! He is very knowledgable and passionate about what he teaches. He really cares about his students. The class itself is a lot of work, but as long as you attend class and do all of the assignments you will be on the right track.
He cares about his students and is passionate in history. Although there are no tests or exams given, there is a lot of paperwork and reading to do outside of the class. Time manage well, and you should pass this class easily.
This professor is great. He goes super in depth with the lectures and provides new information that is often obscured. This being said, he will test your understanding of these subjects with many and multiple papers. My class was turning in large assignments every Thursday. Forewarning: will make assignments due on finals week.
easy grader, took a W last year in this class and I have an A now with Dr. Weller. Attendance is mandatory He will ramble on all lecture and sometimes you don't even get to the actual topic of the class. He gives a lot of extra credit opportunities. There are two books that we had but they were on the wsu library website for free
I literally love Dr. Weller. I had to retake HIS105 because I failed it the first time around and with him I got an A. He is so passionate about what he's teaching that it somehow makes you want to work harder and get an A. He's easy on the eyes too so that's an added bonus.
He rambles on all class and most of the time doesn't get to the actual topic of the day. Somehow turns every important conversation about slavery or racism into a conversation about himself. Not helpful when it comes to the papers because he doesn't actually lecture on useful information.
I struggle a lot with writing to the point where I just give up which is why I've had to retake this course multiple times. He'll help you any way he can and his attitude and compassion for his students is what drove me to do the work and finally complete the course. Since this class is required for everyone, I highly recommend Dr. Weller
Weller is a great guy. He really puts his heart into his lectures and is always willing to help you if you ask him. Although the assignment load is high, Weller doesn't grade very harshly. If you show up to class and do the assignments, it's easy to get a good grade.
this man is the only reason as to why I didnt drop out of college after 1st semester. I have never gotten around to telling him but he made me feel like I belonged in college even if Im first gen and a person of color. Whenever I felt doubt he SOMEHOW made me feel like I was worthy and like I was capable of getting my degree. super good @ guitar!
Weller's history 105 class was extremely reading and writing heavy (like every history 105 class) but he always gave extensions, he is very passionate about this class and makes sure the lectures aren't boring. If you show up to class and do the work this class is an easy A-B with him!
There is SO MUCH WORK. We had 1-2 lectures due MONDAY NIGHT of the week so that we could "discuss" them during the zoom lectures, we had at least one reading (RDP) every week and they were stacked together so 2-3 would be due at a time. There are at LEAST 4 essays. He is not the hardest grader but he makes you work. He is very passionate though.
He's a pretty interesting professor but his assignments never make any sense. Very confusing. He abbreviates every assignment so it's like learning a new language. CDP's due every week which requires at least 6 DP's and an ESQ-3. RDP's require 5 DP's, end with ESQ-3 and start with SAQ-1. I'm so confused. Good luck with the IIE's, CTAP's, and LRA's!
Such a great professor he really cares about his students. He knows the material he's teaching and teaches it well. He does everything he can to help support you and adapts very well to the clasroom and only ever gives us as much hw as we can handle taking into account other classes and outside of school reponsibilities.
Usually have two papers due a week, which would not be bad if you could understand his lectures. Plus, if you have any other classes, forget having time to yourself. Plus homework on Thanksgiving day.
Overall he was very passionate about what he was teaching on. He assigned 2 prerecorded lectures and CDPs every week and they were due that Monday. I spent about 5-7 hours a week on homework for this class. Good luck with your Final Research Paper!
Professor Weller is extremely passionate about what he teaches. He is not a super tough grader, but you need to participate and watch every lecture. There are lots of papers, lots of reading, and lots of out of class lectures and assignments.
Dr. Weller is a very passionate and very caring. He knows what he teaches and he goes out of his way to know his students! I really enjoyed every class of his and it was a class where I could sit down and breath. He does have a decent amount if homework but once you understand how to do it then it becomes super easy! I HIGHLY RECCOMEND!
Dr. Weller is a great professor and is super passionate his teachings. You should be prepared to read a lot and watch a lot of lectures. All the course load was heavy, it was all informative and should only keep you busy 3-4 hours a week in regards to homework.
My first time taking a history class for a while, and Weller made it all worth it. He's approachable and helps when needed. There are a couple papers you'll have to write and a LOT of reading assignments but its more than manageable if you stay on track. This class can be an easy A if you do the work and ask for help!
am taking this class right now and weller is super fun and passionate, HOWEVER there is literally so much homework that is confusing and extra i cant handle it. be ready to read chapter after chapter of the most boring stuff youve ever read every week. then be ready to write at least 2-3 essays on what you read per week. god help me i am begging.
Don't take this class from Weller! I've spent the last 3 hours trying to figure out how to complete the first group of assignments. All information is located in his syllabus, which is so wordy and confusing! All he uses are acronyms -- RDP, RRE, DP, LRA, LO, SOI, IIE, FRP, PLHRP, TT! I am literally having a nervous breakdown right now!
Weller is the most confusing teacher in the world. He rambles all class and doesnt teach, then assigns a shit ton of long ass readings and reflection papers. He makes 0 sense and is always sipping on a flask. Each assignment is a scavenger hunt. u need the syllabus open on 4 diff tabs cuz each part of the instructions is in a diff place. ITS BAD!
My time IN class is pleasant. He clearly cares about what he is teaching, his students, and creating interesting discussions. I am happy to say that his teaching is not bias, he is open to all interpretations and opinions. However, the homework is absolutely awful. It is incredibly confusing and wordy and a very heavy work load. Regret taking.
The syllabus is extremely lengthy and detailed, there are super important details in really small print in the syllabus that are easily missed. If you follow the syllabus EXACTLY and are in class every single day then you will do well, but he isn't an easy grader. Basically don't take him if you're looking for an easy A.
Dr. Weller is VERY PASSIONATE about what he does and I think that's what makes his lectures really interesting. He likes class discussions and loves when people engage in the discussions. There is a lot of typing and he makes notetaking a big part of your grade, but if you attend class, show interest, and ask him for help, you'll do just fine.
He seems super cool at 1st, but as the semester went on, I literally felt like I was not worthy of college. His assignments are super confusing! My mom is a professor at another university, and I asked for help with a paper. After her spending 3 hours trying to understand the assignment, she told me to drop the class. DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!!
Dr. Weller is a good professor. He tries to personally get to know each of his students, which is refreshing at such a large college. He does assign quite a few lengthy assignments, and does grade them according to a stricter rubric. He always provides feedback and wants you to do well in his class. He is very accessible outside of class as well.
I enjoyed Dr. Weller for History 105 I ended up with a 95 as my final grade. The assignments are pretty lengthy but as long as you turn them in on time you will probably get a good grade. The Syllabus will be used for 95 of the class but I never found it too hard but it took some time for assignments. I never had an issue with completing assignments
I have mixed feelings about Dr. Weller. He is a nice guy with a clear passion for what he does, but as a professor his instructions are extremely confusing and everyone in my class struggled to understand what he meant. The class itself tended to be quite boring and hard to follow. The assignments are very very lengthy and often confusing as well.
Dr. Weller is sassy with his students and bad at responding to emails. You COULD ask him questions in class, although you may just get shut down or told to "refer to the syllabus". Far more coursework than compared to other History 105 classes. The rubrics are lengthy and quite frankly, contradicting, to say the least.
Dr. Weller is very passionate about the subject of Middle Eastern history but suffers from the density of his syllabus. I pretty much referred to it while doing the weekly homework every week for the entire semester, and the guidelines for most assignments are hard to understand and oftentimes don't really connect to the lectures.
Good guy but his syllabus could be more modernized. The class is essentially him just rambling a lot of the time and most of the assignments are just busy work. If you so happen to be placed in this professors class, drop the class.
class is mandatory so if you tend to skip class DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS, overall good guy if you talk to him he's very understanding, but he's syllabus is confusing, if you are in he's class I recommend making some type of connection with him, and just do your work, don't wait till the last minute, but if you still can just change professors
He is smart teacher and has good things hes teaching, but he goes off topic and talks about irrelivant things all the time. His entire lecture never has nothing to do with the homework, and his homework is more intense than any other history 105 teacher on campus. Overall good teacher but the work is far too much in comparison to other teachers.
If you're genuinely interested in history this is a great class, his lectures are interesting but the assignments are what makes this class difficult. There is a weekly reading assignment with a substantial amount of reading and a couple of papers. Attendance is taken and class notes must be submitted on a weekly basis.
If you are just taking 105 for the UCORE requirement, choose a different professor. He's good but there is so much homework and its all just a lot of busy work that never really relates to what we learn in the lectures. My friends in all the other 105 classes didn't have nearly as many assignments and learned the same amount.
The week after the final essay was due, another essay was assigned. during dead week. So the time that could be used for studying is used towards another paper. So much homework every week and he uses acronyms for everything so you have to constantly check syllabus to see what they mean. if you have him, GOOD LUCK.
If you need to take history105 as a u-core, DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. He is very rigorous with his grading and is hard to get feedback from. He gives a lot of unnecessary homework and can be hard to work with. Charles weller is a smart man, but there are easier History 105 teachers.
Good class. Professor can be slightly wordy and arrogant at times, but the work was easy, just a bit time consuming.
His teaching is very holistic so he sort of teaches in a way that fits. He is a bit strange but not a bad teacher and a cool guy. Homework gets overwhelming and you have to read a lot of readings he gives in correlation to the assignment. Also, the acronyms he uses for assignments are confusing so keep tabs of the syllabus open.
A masterclass in nothing. Despite seeming to teach a history class, I attended every lecture and learned almost nothing. He had a gift for managing to overcomplicate every piece of work. Every assignment was drowned in acronyms that had to be decoded by the syllabus every time. Great historian, HORRIBLE professor.
Professor Weller is very clear on his expectations/grading. That being said, he is a tough grader. You will READ for this class - whether it be the books for the unit or the research papers. You have to stay on the ball with due dates, especially if you are taking another class that is demanding of your time. If you can get ahead it will save you.
I took Dr. Weller Fall 2023. He cares about his students and his work. He has a lot of assignments, his syllabus is straight forward so always look at that. He dropped my final exam for my class. the final consists of a research paper you have been working on 2 months prior. His reading Assignments are wordy so use chatgpt to reword. be respectful.
Dont be scared of the reviews on here. Dr. Weller is very passionate about what he teaches and makes the lectures interesting. He cares about his students and always acknowledges that he is glad we show up to his class. He also tries to learn everyones names which is nice. Lots of reading each week and the LRA's are pretty lengthy.
He is an outstanding professor; you can tell he actually cares about the subject he is teaching. He gets you to learn the subjects and really understand the complexities of the surrounding causes and effects.
worst syllabus ever.
This class made me hateful
among the worst professors I have ever had. the "final" paper was due during dead week and then another TWO papers were due Monday of finals week. the so-called syllabus is so incredibly long, outrageously wordy and full of acronyms. he also walks around class without shoes on regularly which is gross.
His syllabus makes absolutely no sense, he has acronyms for literally everything. Very hard grader as well, lot of papers
If you aren't very conscientious, don't take this class. Attention to detail and organization are more important to your grade than knowledge. Follow the syllabus/assignment reqs carefully, attend the lectures, and organize your notes. Do all that and you'll be fine. Professor is chill, lectures can be interesting. Didn't really learn much, though.
The syllabus and grading criteria is confusing and subjective. He waits until the last few weeks to grade everything and gives unhelpful feedback on papers and assignments. It seems like he gives whatever score he feels like giving at the time. However, he doesn't grade too harshly. He does care about and is passionate about history.
Professor Weller's class is challenging but rewarding. The workload is heavy, with lots of reading and writing assignments. Using tools like unstuck AI and chatGPT can be really helpful for managing the workload.
This class is definitively the most difficult class that I have ever taken. Everything is long, convoluted, and full of acronyms, specifically the syllabus and assignment details. Prepare to be confused and overwhelmed. Although, Weller is one of the most amazingly passionate people I have ever met. If you love history and writing, take this class.
Way too much homework and papers for a 105 class
SO MUCH WORK
There is a lot of homework but he is willing to let you redo anything if you talk with him
Get ready for hell. Only likes to talk about himself and what he's done with history. You don't actually learn anything other than how to connect parts of your life to historical events (which he expects you to already know). Very confusing assignments with a very bad layout for how to do them. Very passive-aggressive, would not recommend.
Although I didn't enjoy the material we covered, the professor made the class good. The assignments were typically once or twice a week with discussion points that were only 30-50 words. There's like 3 essays total and some assignments that lead up to the final essay that helped complete it
He is very kind and passionate about his class. However, his syllabus and rubrics for assignments are an absolute tragedy. They are hard to read and comprehend and left me overwhelmed most of the time. Very lecture heavy and most content is in class. Be prepared to write A LOT! Overall, good teacher but I wouldn't take again.
Awful professor. His syllabus and assignments are confusing. Lectures were useless and I legitimately did not learn a single thing in this class. For most of the lectures he would play a song and then "analyze" it. This class is just a waste of money and time.
Weller is a very kind and passionate individual! My biggest issues were that his assignment instructions are extremely hard to understand. He gives out very large assignments with unrealistic deadlines (a week to do two essays right before finals week) and nothing is graded by him. His TA was terrible, scoring never made sense and felt random.
If you didn't learn anything, you weren't paying attention, he yaps a lot so I don't blame you, but still. Many papers with slightly confusing instructions but he has office hours and zoom sessions to ask questions. Super passionate and had multiple extra credit opportunities. I personally thought his deadlines were fine, but ik others struggled.
lots of writing but it's an easy A if you can manage to follow along with his convoluted instructions for every assignment, and be prepared to use the 18 pg long syllabus for each one. also unreal that he assigns 2 essays during dead week after the final project is due before thanksgiving break... other than that hes nice and always willing to help
Attendance is mandatory and I felt like I learned nothing half the time. I'd avoid Weller, his syllabus is unlike anything I've ever seen and the instructions for assignments were SO complicated. He seems passionate and kind, and his lectures could be interesting at times. Still hated this class and hope I never cross paths with him again.
Professor Weller is an OK professor. With this being a UCORE, I did expect it to be slightly easier. As someone who's not as educated on history as others, I was regularly lost in class discussions. Be ready to do a lot of writing, but he's not a tough grader.
