Way too many group work and presentations. Too much homework, about 2.5+ hours on blackboard per night. Not clear at all. DOES NOT reply to emails, I emailed him about 5 times and finally got a response once. His first semester at this school (On the east coast) Overall just a horrible professor... Should be teaching high school history.
Dr. Yeager said this is his 1st semester here at SCCC, and it shows. He's a nice guy, and a really smart guy, but I'm not sure that he was ready for the students that come to school here. He expects you to show up, try to learn, and do some work, but gives you lots of help whenever you ask. A fun class, I recommend it.
Yeager's class was the best class I've taken at Suffolk so far. Knows his stuff, makes class interesting. Listens to heavy metal. Gives you easy reading quizzes for homework, straight from the book. Gives study guides for tests, which are easy. Let us take pictures on Instagram for points. Signed up for his other class for next semester.
This is Professor Yeagers first class at SCCC, idk if that's why my whole class was having such a hard time adjusting to his teaching style but I would not recommend this class at all. I took the class for the credit to graduate but if I didn't need it i would have dropped. If you're going to take him next semester, good luck!
Dr Yeager is a nice guy ,but he is very critical. Lots of assignments to boost your grade but be prepared to put the time in. He gives review sheets for tests but they are not easy . I took this class because I need it , otherwise I probably would have dropped it .
He lays out exactly what you need to do pass the class, and gives you lots of different ways to get points. We watched lots of movies, and usually had fun in class. If you're expecting 13th grade, this is not the class for you, but if you want to learn something, it's a great class. Def recommend.
He's one of those rare profs at SC that truly cares about what he's teaching, and that his students are learning. Most the students in my class really liked our class, but there were some that never stopped whining about reading or having to do work (Why again are you even going to college?). But if you want a blow off class, this isn't it.
Took this class as an elective. This ended up having the MOST work of my whole program. His grading system is very straight foward, but you must be on top of assignments almost daily. He answers emails very quickly. I recommend you take advantage of email with him. He's very passionate about his class ,but you'd have to be too. Wouldn't take again
While this class has more work than I anticipated, the work its self is not overly strenuous. The professor on the other hand is extremely charismatic. Very approachable guy with a lot of knowledge of his field. Would recommend this course.
Open book quizzes. Tests right out of the book (with study guides), and a few group projects that are graded really easily. Not a terribly tough course, and it was pretty interesting most of the time. It's easy to get him side-tracked and talking about sports or other off the wall things.
Good guy. Really smart, dedicated teacher. Responds to emails super fast. He does get frustrated with students that just don't do any work or follow directions, but if you put in the minimal effort and pay attention, you should have no problem getting a good grade.
Prof Yeager is a super teacher. I'm not so sure what the confusion is with his grading system, it seemed like the people in my class who didn't do much of anything all semester were surprised when they got Ds. The fact that they passed at all lets you know how many chances the guy gives you.
Class wasn't hard. I met with him before every test after I didn't do good on the first one and he helped me study. Gives study guides, he is always in his office when you needed help with any of the assignments.
Best class I had this semester. He helped me make some maps for a project for one of my other classes, so he even helped me get a good grade in that class.
He was a nice professor, always there to help. But I actually had to work for a C. I've never had a professor that had us do so much work. 2 presentations, 2 papers. Several other online assignments. Plus online homework every week. The google earth quizzes was brutal. Get ready to work all semester. He's a good professor tho.
Great class, nice guy. Workload was similar to my classes at Stony Brook, maybe a little more than here at Suffolk, but this is 13th grade lol.
Professor Yeager is one of those professors who truly cares about his students, and he gives you numerous opportunities to make sure you get an A. You do have to work towards those opportunities, however. If you study, do the online homework's, pay attention during the lectures, and try on the projects, you will do good.
Save yourself a lot of time and don't take his class. His lectures are really boring and even the class itself. He gives too many assignments as if you have no other class besides his. His class brought upon lots of stress. And do not even get me started on the presentations. Worst professor at SCCC.
Great class. Fun discussions. Definitely a good summer class. To the genius who posted below me, I'm curious what class they're taking or if they're actually coming to the same one I'm in. There is one assignment per chapter. One assignment. Seriously, some people at this school need to go back to 4th grade.
Easy class, readings were minimal and we used a free "book" from the internet so we didn't have to buy anything. We watched a lot of movies, listened to music in class when we were talking about culture. He gives study guides for his tests, which are not hard. He's a funny guy in class. I'm really glad I took this class.
Great class for a summer session. Topics were pretty interesting, learned alot about Long Island I didnt know before.
Took the human geography class in summer. It was good, pretty fun things to learn about. You learn about lots of different things, not just one thing to get tired of really quick. He is a nice guy and tries to help you when you need help with things. The map quizzes are fun if you like messing around on google earth.
Just finished my last class at SC with him. One of the best classes I've taken here, I probably actually learned more in this class than in most others. Definitely one of my favorites.
It was the second or third day of class when he said that "all congressmen and senators are pieces of human filth". He's a great teacher and has a really good sense of humor. Class was fun. Yes, it is a college class and there are tests and homework and you are expected to read and learn, but it's nothing overwhelming. Really enjoyed this class.
He's a good guy. He must be an easy grader because I ended up with a better grade than I thought I was going to get.
I didn't like him at first because he caught me cheating on a paper and gave me an F on it lol. But he was right because I was cheating, but he worked with me to show me what I was doing that was plagiarizing and how not to do it anymore. Wish some teacher would have showed me that a long time ago. Anyways now I do alot better on essays.
Class is far more interesting than I thought it would be. Each week's readings are pretty short, then you turn in a little quiz you do on Google Maps and a short little (2 page) essay. I haven't had any problem keeping up and getting good grades, theres much less work in this class than my other summer class.
Just finished his political geography class. It was pretty interesting, especially for an online class. Lots of reading about current events type stuff. I wrote my final paper on the Transgender bathroom thing as an example of a contested space. I'd recommend the class!
Fun class. Made you think about things you never would have thought were anything at all to do with geography.
Good class, we learned about some pretty cool things.
Really enjoyed this class, highly recommended!
Took GEO 102 in the spring. Professor Yeager is a nice guy, he really helped me out a lot with my project for the class.
Really enjoyed this class. I really didn't know what geography was when I signed up, but there's a lot of stuff we talked about.
All over the place with his lectures, it's a 101 dude chill out with the advanced material and stick to 101 stuff
Excellent professor, one of the brightest and best teachers I've had at Suffolk. If you're interested in learning something, you'll get alot out of his class. If you, like the poster below me, are a moron who somehow managed to slip through the cracks in high school and are looking for an easy A for no effort, you won't enjoy his classes.
Nice guy and an interesting class. He makes you feel like he gives a crap about if you actually learn something and do well in his class. A lot of other teachers here don't do that so much.
really helpful and he makes time for you outside of class if you ask. he spent time working with me to make a project for one of my other classes better, not even for his class. really a nice guy.
I really like the class and he's a friendly teacher
One of my favorite classes this semester :)
Its a fun class, but you have to do the reading or you won't pass but its not anything too bad.
Extra credit on every test, tests are straight from the reading. It's a good class so far.
hes a nice profesor and always helped me a lot.
He's not from around Suffolk and really gets annoyed with students who don't do any work and then expect to pass the class. Its funny because class is filled with those slugs and he just doesn't put up with any of there sh!t. If you dont want to do any work don't take him. He gives a ton of xtra credit and is always around when you need help.
Nice teacher. Tests come straight out of the book and projects are easy if you follow instructions.
Gives a lot of extra credit but its spread out over the semester so if you build it up you can have enough points to not have to do part of the project or even a test.
It's a cool class, the project is pretty fun. He's really helpful if you ask him. People who don't do the work though or turn everything in late don't do well in the class though. If this is you, look for an easier class.
Decent amount of work but it's not too bad. There's a lot of reading and if you don't do it your going to flunk out.
If you stay on his good side he's a good prof. He clearly favorites certain students and if he thinks you're not taking the class seriously he'll act spitefully towards you. Gives a lot of reading but is willing to help you out by giving study guides and extra credit.
He's a nice and honest guy and an overall good professor. He will try to help you if you need it and he offers extra credit on all of his test. Very clear grading policy. Doesn't tolerate cell phones but he will not call you out in front of the class, just take points off your grade. I would recommend this class to anyone.
I actually learned a lot in his class, its not hard if you read the book and show up to class. But if you don't do those things this class would been pretty hard to pass.
Con much gusto!
Super nice guy, pretty fun class.
It was a wonderful semester with Dr. Yeager and I will definitely miss him! Honestly, the tests were hard if you didn't study the textbook in depth. You MUST do your google earth assignments to pass. Make sure you participate, read your textbook, show effort and you will get a good grade. If you are looking for an easy A, don't take this class.
If you're expecting to be treated like you did in high school this is not the class for you but if you act like an adult and actually want to learn about the world it's a great class. Challenging but fun.
Def not an easy A!
Great class, the work is not terribly hard as long as you can follow directions and get things turned in on time.
Only a few weeks into class but its good so far.
Professor Yeager is a good guy who likes to show how geography works in the real world rather than just from a book. We spent time in class listening to different types of music to see how it changed when it moved from place to place. He is really helpful when you have question or problems with work. You have to read your book but its not too ha
I love this guys class. Its really clear hes not from around here and isnt really interested in all the bullcrap that the 13th graders at Suffolk think will be handed to them. His best line from class: "If you dont want to do this project, its ok, dont do it. Nobody will be mad. Youll just fail it." I love this guys class.
Second class Ive had with prof Yeager and its as good as the other class I took with him. Hes a good teacher and goes out of his way to help you. Its funny sometimes because hes defintlely not from Long Island so he doesnt put up with the students who dont want to do any work and just get an A for showing up. They don't like the class so well lol
Basically if you don't do the work then you will not pass. He assigns a lot of work that will keep you busy every week. So far we are midway through the semester and he's assigned 6 mapping quizzes and some reading quizzes too. We had 2 exams and a project due at the end but parts of the project are due in between the semester. be ready to work /
Good online class.
I mean he's alright. To do well you're definitely going to have to read every chapter or at least spend 45 minutes on every reading quiz and mapping quiz in order to find the right answers... If it's not your first semester and you're not motivated for putting in a ton of work for a geography class, don't take him. No grade yet but assuming a B.
Hes fair and always helps if you ask him. Prob the most help I got from any of my profs at Suffolk.
there are 5 tests, 7 quiz you do on google earth, and a paper. that's it for the whole semester. and then a ton of extra credit. and a bunch of videos. class is not hard unless you just don't do anything.
its good class and he will help you with thing if you ask him.
"Basically if you don't do the work you will not pass." Lulz. Welcome to college precious.
Just took it online but he was always good with responding to emails. Friendly and helpful.
My favorite class this semester, but definitely not for the lazy.
The beat. Very interesting and helpful
half of class is normal students who are going to go on to a 4 year school, half of class is 13th graders. The normal students love him because he challenges you and expects you to think. the 13th graders hate him because he challenges you and expects you to think. 13th graders should avoid this class, or just college in general.
He's a funny guy pretty easy going. Class is pretty interesting if you pay attention but if you don't or don't read you'll be totally lost.
Actually learned a lot in this class. Assignments aren't hard you just have to do them and it helps to read the book. Imagine that.
Good online class. Nothing really over the top or out of the ordinary.
Agree with a lot of the others. It's a good class as long as your going to do the assignments and pay attention but if not your going to struggle.
very tough
DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!! He was one of the most boring, confusing, and hardest professors i have taken. Yes he does give you extra credit but the extra credit id kinda mandatory because without it you wont pass. I have failed every one of hist tests which is based off a point system too. Also his study sheets are terrible. I do not recommend him at all.
Between the extra credit and the study guides for the tests, I had an A already and didn't have to even take the final. Great class, hes definintely a better teacher than most of the other teachers I had here.
I already had an A and didn't have to take the final either. Lots of extra credit! He really goes out of his way to help as long as your putting in some effort!
Was just an online class but it was actually pretty interesting. Assignments were easy to understand and didn't take a ton of time.
This professor makes you work for the A, I have never truly learned something from a class like I did in this one. Professor Yeager forces you to actually do the work and learn something from it. I am leaving this class a smarter person. He makes himself available to you if you need him you just need to show you are putting in the effort.
BEST CLASS THIS SEMESTER. NOT FOR THE LAZY THO
His class consists of discussion responses, mapping quizzes, and chapter quizzes. As long as you don't rush, make sure the answer is correct, and don't plagiarize you'll be okay. Make an effort during discussion questions. He's a great guy.
I actually just had him help me in the mentoring center bit I can't wait to take his class. He's a really nice guy.
Took the online class. We were graded on each week a discussion, mapping quiz, and a chapter quiz. You can't be lazy during this class or you will not pass.
Although he tends to bash History majors and country a lot, he is a good professor who offers a lot of extra credit and makes it a fun class. He is a tough grader on presentations and does several group assignments which is annoying but staying on top of assignments and referring to the syllabus on a weekly basis is necessary to do well.
He's a great professor, it was the only class i looked forward to this semester. So glad i took it.
Best class I had last semester. We had like 6 homework assignments for the whole semester lol. If you show up and put in a little bit of effort you will do just fin.
Big fan of this class and the prof. Would recommend both a lot.
I took him for online and he definitely was not accommodating at all. He picks on every little grammar note possible and is not clear at all in his notes.
its only the first week of class but I really like this class so far. hes good at telling the lecture in a way that its related to normal things and not just straiht from the book. hes pretty funny too. totally recommend.
Online class is a piece of cake. He's easy to get ahold of and will actually respond to emails unlike a lot of profs.
Enjoyed this class especially the things you do with the Google earth.
I had Professor Yeager's online class, it was a lot of reading but what else is expected from an online class?. He was very considerate and easy to get a hold of. I will never take an online class again, but I am lucky to have had him as my professor .
learned a lot in the class & ended up getting a better grade than I though I was going to get. Hes very responsive to emails and very helpful if you have any questions.
Very good class. One of my best before graduating.
All online classes should be done the way this guy does his classes. Totally straightforward. Not a ton of goofy groupwork or working together on discussion boards. Really straightforward. Couldn't recommend more.
Great online class.
I do not speak English very well and he was very kind to me. I am a better student now because of the time I took in the class this last session.
Excellent prof and class. I am planning on taking another class with him in the fall.
Genuinely nice guy, funny in class and tries to make it enjoyable. Class is not hard at all as long as you get the stuff done on time and come to class. The assignments are pretty easy and the stuff on google earth is actually kind of fun. A+
I don't want to say it's an easy A but for an online class it was really well orgnaized. You just do some little assignments every week and have a midterm and a final, which he gives you study guides for. There aren't many stupid discussion boards, only a few. Plus he actually returns your emails which is different than most professors here
Hes the best. Good class and and teacher.
Thought I wouldn't like him because he always dissed history majors and country music, but he was actually a really good professor. Easy A as long as you do all the homework. This class uses google earth A LOT but it's kind of fun when you use it for the homework. 5 page paper was the only tough part. So much extra credit.
Great summer class, really enjoyed it!
I had a very good time with professor Yeager this summer. He is fair and funny. The class was intresting and I did learn a lot.
Great guy and online class. A decent amount to of reading but it was an 8 week class in summer, and even then it wasn't bad. He's quick to respond with help to emails and is a really nice guy.
very good class, not too hard at all.
Good class. Just do the easy quizzes and it's an easy A. He actually answers emails too.
Excellent!
Very good class so far. He a very nice man and funny in class.
Excellent. Very good class, makes lectures fun. Completely recommend
He is very helpful. I am not English first student, but professor Yeager was very helpful. He is very thoughtful and kind.
Class is fun. Watch lots of videos that make you see that geogrphy is really more important than you thought it was before you took this class. He always responds to emails really quick and is always helpful.
Had an awesome experience in both his online class and GEO 101 class. Not sure why he is teaching at Suffolk, as he is of higher caliber than many other professors teaching there. He expects you to treat your class work and the institution with respect; really knowledge and interesting person as well. Does his best to help you pass the class!
This is my first time in college and my family just came to New York from Peru. My English is not so good and so I was worried about my classes. Professor Yeager was the only teacher I have this semester who spent time with me and helping me to understand what I need to be a success here. He is a very kind person and I know he cares very much.
I took this class thinking I'd be filling in an empty map of the world. Dr. Yeager made it very clear right away that geography is so much more than that! I truly enjoyed his class and I was so interested in each "lecture" and topic. After leaving his class every day and taking his online Google Earth quizzes, the feeling of wanderlust is evident..
Really, really liked this class. It totally makes me want to go see the world and experience some of the things we've learned about in class.
Excellent class, wonderful semester!
Is an awesome professor I would suggest you take his class
Professor Yeager genuinely wants you to pass, the class is very textbook heavy so beware. Most of the exams he gives are based off the readings in the textbook. Overall, very nice guy.
This class was SOOOOO much more than i thought it was going to be when I signed up for it. One of my favorite classes Ive taken, and professor Yaeger is really excellent at what he does.
GEO was surprisingly an interesting class. There is text book reading with a reading test every week. There is also a test every week using google earth ( I loved this) the class does require reading and good note taking, but this is college. I would take Professor Yeager again
REALLY wish I could have taken a class with Prof. Yeager in person! He presented himself so politely via Blackboard and email. He seems so fun! Don't be lazy, keep on top of your weekly quizzes. I missed one week and got a B+, if I had just finished one of 2 missed assignments that week, would've gotten an A easily. He makes criteria VERY clear!
Very nice guy, seems to know and like what he talks about. Easy to talk to outside of class. Gives tons of extra credit, and the tests are not bad. if you put the work in, youll do very well in this class.
Just had him for a intersession class so it was the whole semester in 2 weeks. He's a good lecturer and makes class interesting, tests are from lecture and the book, so you have to read if you're planning to pass. He wants you to pass and gives extra credit on every chapter.
He's pretty different than most my other profesors here. Im not the best student but he does not judge against me and always seems like he cares about me learning in his class. He is funny and we like him.
Hes excellent. Class is really fun, but he does expect that you are learning and read the book and do the homework,
absolutely love this class, the lectures are interesting and the google earth work is very fun totally recommend this class. he is really freindly outside of class and easy to get a hold of when you have a question.
I took Regional geography with him online. The quizzes are two every week, and they come mostly from the reading. The Google Earth quiz isn't from the book and is usually very cool. He was always quick to get back with me over email and very friendly. He even helped advise me for summer classes. Definitely the best prof I had this semester!
i just finished my paper for culture environment and luved this class. so many cool way of looking at things. assignments are actually pretty fun and I did good on tests without much reading.
Class was pretty interesting and he's a good guy really down to earth unlike many of my other profesors. I liked the map reading stuff you do, I go camping a lot in the summer and it will help me a lot to have that skills!
He is such a nice guy. Really a fun class.
the best class. lots of videos and google earth assignments. tests were not hard and he gives you a study guide. gives plenty of extra credit for reading the textbook too
By far my favorite class this semester. Online classes are not for everyone (not me either), but taking this online is so worth saving you an hour of showing up to a class everyday. This class required two assignments every week. A mapping quiz and textbook quiz. Final was easy, all answers were online. Love this professor!
Uses the textbook for the tests (for online classes) but the midterms and finals do cause mental breakdowns because they are timed (75 minutes) and it's 80 question plus two essays.
Good summer class. Prey interesting discussions and questions. There's work and reading but it's a short class, so I expected it.
Best (and last) class I will take at Suffolk. On to Stony Brook. Dr. Y. was a big help for me. Im very happy that I took his class this summer!
Dr. Y is an AWESOME professor! So personable and willing to help you! He is very knowledgeable in his field and makes his classes very interesting with the stories he shares. I recently took him for a Maymester and I did not regret it one bit. I learned a lot from him!
I took this class online and overall thought hes a great professor. Weekly work includes reading assigned chapter(s) and 2 quizzes. This work is fair and not difficult at all, but he also incorporates a final project thats given at the beginning of the year with everything else. He gives maybe 2 exams throughout the semester (mid-term & final).
