Great. First semester teaching at Duke. Talks very slowly, but clearly defines and explains the material. Very approachable outside of class. Takes constructive feedback well. Workload same as any other CHEM 101 class. Tests are fair yet tricky. Seems like a very nice person.
Great professor, especially for his first semester at Duke. Definitely go to office hours and ask for help outside of class if you feel the need to, he is very approachable. Tests are hard but fair, definitely go to lectures even though they are optional. Prof. Cox is clearly passionate about chemistry and wants his students to do well.
I had Prof. Cox during his first semester and first time teaching 101. It was overall a good experience. He is available and he is open to feedback regarding what is working in the course. Exams were hard, but these come directly from lecture. If he spends a lot of time covering it, it will be on the exam. He throws in some jokes and cartoons too.
Great instructor for 101. Everything including lectures and office hours is recorded and posted to Sakai. You do need to watch the lectures, review office hours problems in prep for the exam. The exams are not too bad. Short and can be tricky but very similar to problems worked in lecture. He definitely cares a lot about teaching and chemistry!
Made the best effort he could during his first semester at Duke to teach Chem 101. Makes everything accessible so it was not hard to prepare for midterms and exams. Accessible and quick to respond to concerns. Content same as any Chem 101 class, so content can be difficult at times, but Cox is willing to speak with you and holds Office Hours often.
Professor Cox really cares for his students--he holds office hours twice a week to do practice problems and answer questions, allows you to book one-on-one appointments before exams, and emphasizes that his course is not meant to weed anyone out (he never rounds down btw). You can tell that he's passionate about what he teaches. Highly recommend!
Works hard to get and implement student feedback. Switched to more practice material during lecture times due to student feedback (instead of repeating pre-lecture material). Explains concepts well. Worked on additional problems in office hours - and posted all zoom meetings on sakai. Responds fast to emails.
orgo is orgo but cox is literally the man. one of the best chemistry professors i have ever had. so accessible, caring and wants students to truly understand orgo + succeed in his class.
The only person in the chem department that hasn't made me regret my chem minor tbh. Professor Cox is the best, tests are fair and he only tests on concepts emphasized in lecture. Office hours are super helpful, definitely go. Grading is very forgiving but I still feel like I learned a lot, and I actually understand orgo now.
Professor Cox was fantastic. I wouldn't consider Chemistry my best subject at all, but I ended up succeeding in his class and not actually disliking it, which is an impressive improvement from my other Chem classes. I also had some rough circumstances during the semester and he was incredibly kind and accommodating, and I will always remember that.
Professor Cox is definitely one of my favorite professors I've had at Duke. He is wicked-smart and a very good speaker. His love for chemistry is apparent in every lecture, it's honestly inspiring (even for us anti-chemistry pre-med folk). He truly dedicates all of his time to his students and is a devoted professor. Duke is lucky to have him.
Dr. Cox is so sweet, and his class is extremely well organized. Although the class is a lot of work (repeat: a lot of work), it is very predictable, and once you learn the structure it's the same assignments almost every week. He has office hours twice a week - go to those because the problems he goes over will sometimes be very similar to the exam
Orgo 2 will never be easy but Dr. Cox made lecture enjoyable. He moves through the material at a really nice pace and provides a lot of extra help in office hours. It is clear he cares about his students and wants them to succeed. Duke is lucky to have him. One of the best professors I've had.
I was really worried about taking Orgo 2, but Dr. Cox actually made me enjoy the class a lot! He was always willing to host review sessions outside of normal lecture times. His lectures were very clear and he provided lots of practice problems. The exams were very fair, and I felt the he wanted everyone to succeed in the course overall.
Dr. Cox is best possible professor for this class. His lectures were synchronous and they weren't just PowerPoints, which made learning the material much more accessible during COVID. He was also very generous with grading for the midterms/final. Orgo 2 isn't easy, but I would take it again with Dr. Cox.
I took this as a first sem freshman and I gotta say, Professor Cox was so caring--he really empathized with students. Tests were not easy but they were graded fairly. Lectures were pretty good too. Overall, great professor
Excellent professor. He was my 101& 201 professor, and I am excited to continue with 202 with him in summer II. He is understanding, has empathy for students, and write challenging yet fair exams with avgs in the 80s. The content is vast in 201 and he knows it, but he did a great job teaching it. Spectroscopy first was hard but worked. Recommended
Lectures are clear+provide a solid overview of what we need to know for exams. I had him for 101 and 201 and would recommend him strongly for the sequence. He is caring and wants students to do well. Exams are fair but can be hard . Review homework+discussion activities because exams are similar. His orgo lectures focus on kinetics+thermo from 101
Very approachable and caring. The exams were not too challenging--the final was significantly more challenging. All exams are cumulative and he does award a lot of partial credit. We covered the same content as other 202 sections. The lectures were done in real - time on zoom and not pre-recorded. There is no curve but it is possible to do well!
Had Dr. Cox for CHEM 202. Cox is an amazing and exceptional professor. He is easy to approach with questions and will always try to explain a concept to the class/student as many times as necessary. He has a very trend-focused teaching style (acid-base, electrophilicity, etc.) and this helps understand why certain reactions or selectivity occur.
Don't get me wrong: orgo isn't my thing but Cox is the BEST prof out there. Had a different prof for 201 and the juxtaposition is real. Cox clearly explains otherwise confusing concepts and gives tough but fair exams, obviously with the best interest of his students in mind. I may not have an A+ grade in this class, but I do have an A+ professor.
Professor Cox is awesome! He truly wants his students to succeed.
Nice professor.
Very caring, approachable, knowledgeable, and creates an environment for students to succeed!
Explains everything clearly; dedicates a lot of time to helping students understand concepts, no matter how basic. His online office hours consist of him showing how to work through problems, which is a great source of practice for exams. His grading is always beneficial for the student and he uses the best of multiple grading methods
Class started rocky shifting between online & in person but he is accommodating & understanding. He provides a lot of his time and clearly works hard. Class moves very fast but is recorded. More in depth than 101 and less interesting than organic but does lots of medical applications. Study Office Hour/Discussion Problems. Very fair exams
This course is great prep for the MCAT. He cares about his students and works hard to ensure everyone does well. There are a bunch of pushy students in the course who demonstrate entitlement to the extreme but he focus upon equity and fairness. The exams are like the discussion and office hour problems and there or no shocks or twists.
Caring professor who works diligently to ensure his students succeed. Exams are heavy on concepts and while it is tempting to focus on calculations, study the concepts. Lots of resources are provided. The material from the middle to end is much hard than the material at the start of the course. Electrochemistry and acid base are major topics.
Overall great professor. Very caring and devoted a lot of time to course. He sets up the grading for his students to do well. This was his first time teaching 210 and it had quirks but it was still good and it prepped me for the MCAT. Three exams and homework make up your final grade. If you want an easy A-take another professor.
Caring professor who strives to provide resources. Clear explanations were given in lecture. First time teaching 210, but I would recommend his version of 210 and any of his classes. You can do well but you have to work. Very conceptual but fair exams and you can use a crib sheet!
S tier professor that breaks down a very hard class with a vast amount of content into trend-focused chemical concepts that stuck with me long-term. I would delay taking chemistry courses as a premed student just to wait until he teaches it. Orgo 2 is the hardest class most premed students will take at Duke so having the best professor is important
Professor Cox is an amazing lecturer and made me love Orgo a lil more. He breaks down the conceptual stuff into patterns that are easier to understand. Tests primarily on what's in lecture (textbook was lowkey supplemental) Goated for real, def take any class with him if you can. Super accessible, but does have harder tests. Love this man frr
Took 202 and 210 with Cox, and while 202 was harder both were great. I learned a lot and he focuses upon predicting/extending concepts. Minimal textbook use-lecture covers all content. He posts recorded lectures. Test heavy with limited fluff points. Harder tests than other profs. If you want to learn take him, if you want to an easy A...not sure.
Cox is fine, I'm in 110. It's not really Cox, but more the class, but I swear lectures feel sooo dragged out and it's just 75 mins so that's weird but anyway material is VERY tough or at least just kinda weird. I'm sure compared to other profs he's better though so I say take it with him.
Lectures are clear and he is always available after class or over email to answer questions. All lectures are recorded with slides, and he provides ample material for exam prep. He also weights your grades in a way that will benefit you the most (ex: if you did worse on the final, it gets weighted less). I highly recommend this class.
Cox is the prof you want for every single chemistry class you take at Duke. He clearly explains complex concepts and is always willing to provide extra practice problems if you ask. You have to attend all the lectures and stay focused, but if you put in the work, you'll get an A. I suggest you take the lab a semester before you take the lecture.
Professor Cox is one of the best professors you can have for chemistry. He gives interesting and clear lectures, abundant supplemental resources (readings, videos, problems), and truly cares about the success of his students. The concepts are not easy, but he makes it feasible to succeed in this class and future courses if you put in the work.
Charlie Cox is an amazing professor. He's great at explaining organic and keeps lectures engaging while providing lots of practice resources for outside of class. He also has built a grading system that is meant to benefit students as much as possible, adjusting weight on exams at the end of the semester so that the highest grade possible is earned
He's an absolute work horse for his students, putting in SO many extra hours per week to ensure students' success. Absolutely no surprise he's the DUS. He's clearly a caring guy who wants you to succeed, and if orgo doesn't come naturally to u, go to his office hours. Study A LOT for the tests (it's orgo), and focus on what he emphasizes.
Cox is the best. Seriously. Orgo cannot be easy, but he gives you every option to make it manageable and understandable. He lets you learn your way and gives you opportunities to use at your choice. His lectures are great. GO. The tests aren't easy, but everything on them is taught so there are never tricks. Always choose Cox if he's teaching.
Excellent Prof. Clear grading criteria, caring, accessible, clear lectures, and meaningful discussion activities. I am excited for organic and tempted to take 210- even though he says 110 is harder than 210. The group exams are awesome and the multiple grading options definitely help. If you need help, he will go out of his way to help. We are #1.
It is evident that Dr. Cox was a very respected professor, and his lectures are for the most part clear. Sometimes, it does go a little fast, but if you take some time to review content after lecture you should be fine. tests are fair and the discussion sections helped a lot.
Before registration - beware! Chem 210 with Cox is very hard. Much harder than other profs and he isn't flexible. He will not bend on grades. His lectures are clear, provides lots of resources, records lectures and office hours, but this class shouldn't be this hard. Just take another prof and relax. Two exams and a final are 90% of the grade.
Chem 210 is not bad. He does go into more depth than Canelas, but the topics are interesting. I learned about membranes and fuel cells. He cares and provides a lot of support. Straightforward exams. People who did poorly because of lack of effort. They took Cox to avoid Warren, but are bitter an A isn't gift-wrapped for their pre-med requirements.
This is my second semester with Professor Cox, and he is consistently a great teacher for all chemistry classes. If you're taking orgo at Duke, do it with Cox - the content is obviously hard, but if you go to lecture, review your notes, and take advantage of all of his office hours, his tests are not surprising. He is very fair and cares a lot.
The GOAT! Class is very hard though so you'll regret not paying attention in class. Otherwise, grading is fair and Cox is somewhat of a funny guy!
Cox is my favorite. Orgo 1 isn't easy so don't hate on him, he literally makes it as easy as possible. He doesn't do any trick questions. To ace the exams, just ace the discussion problems. They are so similar. He is accessible out of class so don't hesitate to reach out.
Taking organic chemistry for the first time sucks, but Prof. Cox does his absolute best, trying to give students as many resources as possible to succeed. However, his lectures are often disorganized and difficult to understand, although due to the subject, this cannot be entirely his fault. He does give incredible partial credit, though!
Very caring professor who will go out of his way to support his students. He moves fast in lecture but the lectures are recorded. He tries to stop and engage students but my class didn't participate. His class is harder than the other sections, but I found the extra information very interesting as a pre-med. Exams are the same as discussion problems
Very good professor. Organized. If you feel that things are not organized, please review content. That is a sign that you don't understand from my opinion. He provides a ton of resources and a lot of his time to ensure students do well. The exams are predictable, but you have to understand the content. No tricks. No surprises. Overall greater prof.
Cox is great but not an easy prof. A lot of students signed expecting an easier class. He goes fast in lecture but records everything and lecture follows his book exactly. Study and make connections. Lots of resources and caring. 101 was like high school, but Cox has higher expectations. Take Cox to learn 201 or another prof for an easy premed A
Prof Cox cares about his students and puts in a lot of effort. His class is hard, but if you use the resources then it is not too bad. The exams are predictable. Class move quickly but he has a ton of office hours and other resources. He records lectures which helps. You get the grade you earn in his class. No surprises.
I had prof cox for three classes-101, 202, and 210. You have to work and it is chemistry so it is not easy, but he cares and is willing to help you succeed. Exams are doable but not easy. He is understanding and willing to work with students but there is no curve. He wants students to study together. 210 draws heavily on 101- his 101 prepared me!
Great professor. He covers a lot of content very quickly, but is very available to answer questions in office hours and provides a ton of resources. Use his book as the primary resource because much of his lectures are pulled from the textbook. He exams are straightforward and he records his lectures. There is a lot of content- not his fault.
Professor Cox is extremely knowledgeable and passionate about chemistry. He gives various avenues and a plethora of resources for students to succeed with. His first priority is the success of his students. In the end, this class is still extremely difficult and requires a deep understanding of the mechanisms behind organic chemistry for success.
Dr. Cox was so funny and explained concepts really well. He is accessible outside of class and fosters an engaging learning environment. I loved this class.
Dr. Cox was not amazing at explaining orgo concepts although I had him for gen chem and thought he was great. He is invested in his students, though, and makes it possible to learn from him outside of lecture.
More challenging Professor than my 201 instructor who skipped content and allowed us to use chest sheets. The learning curve is for real with him. He is caring but his class is not easy. Moves fast in class but lectures are recorded. Lots of resources and he does truly care about his students. You will learn a lot but have to work hard!
He is energetic and caring. Cox himself admits that 201 has a lot of content. He had only taught the course once before, but he put a lot of effort into providing ample resources and office hours. His exams are fair if you study the discussions and office hours problems. Chem 201 was fast. Chem 202 with him has a lot of depth but more patterns.
Chem 202 is very challenging, but Cox is very caring and supportive. It is not an easy A - you have to work, but he does his best to help students. Numerous resources, recorded lecture, annotations, group exams, Active, and extra videos reviewing mechanisms. He wants you to understand "why" the reactions occur and gives plenty of bio applications.
Excellent professor. Clear, consist, approachable, and excellent TAs. Take Cox and only Cox for chem courses.
If you could take chemistry with Dr. Cox, do it. As long as you do the work, and there is a lot of work, you will pass. He has amazing TAs and so much good quality practice problems. He cares a lot for his students and wish I took more chemistry classes with him.
One of the best if not the best professor/lecturers in the university. Orgo is already a hard topic, but Cox makes the content engaging, intuitive, and interesting for everyone involved...even premeds. Grading is very clear cut, exam content is very clearly explained, and his exams are extremely fair. Lectures at perfect pace, and very organized.
Excellent professor for organic. The best for organic in the chem department. He works hard and creates an inclusive environment using collaborative incentives and undergraduate TAs. He cares about students and wants to ensure their success. Premed students love organic with him. More challenging than parise but provides exceptional support.
This class is DIFFICULT by nature but Prof Cox makes it the best experience possible. He provides so much extra practice. Going by just lectures and required HWs is not enough, so take full advantage of all the other help and resources he offers. His grading is also designed so you don't stress too much over one quiz/exam.
Cox is the best professor at Duke and really wants you to succeed. He provides so much practice and is really easy to access online and during office hours. The TAs this semester also made additional content but I personally never touched it as it was absolutely useless. Do EVERYTHING Cox provides he tries to help and not overcomplecate.
Outstanding professor for Chem 202. He is much better for 202 than 201, but it could also be the content of the course. His research focuses on how to teach 202, and he has compiled ample resources, including additional practice problems, videos, and several sample exams. A very challenging class, but he works hard to ensure his students succeed.
As a pre-med student, I feared organic chemistry. However, I excelled because of Prof. Cox. What was a scary class became an outstanding experience with the best professor I have had (out of 4) in the chemistry department. Don't confuse a great and caring instructor with an "easy" instructor-this class was hard, but he helped us to excel.
Professor Cox is understanding beyond what you would expect of university professors. I doubt there is an organic chemistry professor better than him across the world. He teaches students what they need to know in a digestable format and also tests and grades in an extremely fair way. Thank you for an amazing semester Dr. Cox. You will be missed.
Orgo II is difficult no matter who you take it with, but Cox makes it much more bearable and not impossible by giving you the resources/extra problems/etc. He is a wonderful lecturer but you really have to be self-motivated in this class.
Very challenging professor. Prof Cox is detail-oriented. Prof. Cox focuses on specific trends in organic chemistry instead of all of the reactions we can memorize. You need a solid background in 201. I had him for 110, 201, and 202, which increased my ability in the course. Tests are not easy but possible if you review and understand content.
Amazing professor for 202 - lots of resources. My grade improved from 201. Everyone loved his class except those who took the easier route for 201 with the easier 201 profs. Cox is challenging but very detail-oriented, which is excellent for understanding the content. I enjoyed the details. If you want just to learn the minimum, take someone else.
Very challenging professor. Pay attention in the lecture because he doesn't ramble about useful information. Everything he says is useful. Exams represent information covered in the review sessions. His research is in how to teach organic and he focuses on nuanced information that he learns from his research. Not easy but emphasizes key info.
Very challenging. He only has two mid-terms and a final, but he provides ample information outlining what to study. He is very clear in the lecture about what information is most important. Not easy, but he is very fair with exams. I suggest scheduling a meeting with him to discuss study strategies. Also meet with the TAs.
I couldn't imagine a better professor to teach this class than Dr. Cox. If you have a chance to take one of your classes with Cox, absolutely take it.
Professor Cox is the best chemistry professor at Duke. This is my third semester with him - if you have a chance to take him for any chemistry class, do it. He makes it very possible to succeed if you utilize discussion sets, office hours problems, and in-class problems.
Prof Cox does research on how to teach 202. He is the only prof in the department to focus on this research and uses different approaches to cover content. He is excellent in office hours and cares. However, his class is hard. Our TAs had Parise who was much easier, but I feel like I learned organic very well. Not easy but you learn organic
Very good professor. Orgo 2 is somewhat difficult because of the amount of material, but Dr. Cox does a good job of explaining the underlying theory, which helps with memorizing the amount of reactions. Class is well-structured, and the professor really wants you to succeed. Take it with Dr. Cox if you can!
Challenging professor who expect you to extend beyond the text. Does not use the common text - he believes the Loudon book is a starting point and goes deeper. He is excellent if you want to learn chemistry. If you want an easy A - take Parise or another professor. Cox is an excellent professor - but challenging.
Excellent professor. The grade you get is proportional to the work you put in. He cares and works hard for students. You should be able to pull a B by trying.
Organic is hard but Prof. Cox is willing to work hard to ensure his students do well. Students who feel he is a poor professor or goes into too much depth are probably simply not cut out for medical school. He doesn't go on tangents - What he says is important. If you attend lectures, the tests are predictable, but they have challenging problems.
cox is a wonderful professor! he has so many office hours and practice problems. his lecture are clear and he clearly puts a lot of time and effort in helping students.
Good professor but not as easy as I was led to believe. He does a lot for his students and truly does care and goes above and beyond. Exams are not easy but you can excel with effort.
Dr. Cox is truly an amazing professor - patient, kind, and incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about the subject. His lectures are very detailed and he goes deeply into the "why" behind everything, so you learn the content really well. High but reasonable expectations. He explains clearly and was always accessible outside of class.
He is invested to ensure his students succeed. He is detail oriented with detailed lectures and there is a lot of homework required, but the grading is very fair with homework and lab counting a lot toward the grade. 4 quizzes that were challenging but similar to difficulty of homework. Final was tough. You have to work but he wants you to succeed!
Excellent professor who structures his courses for his students to both learn and succeed. His published in organic education and it shows. He is more in depth than my 201 professor but it made the course easier honestly because I made solid connections. Cox's book is outstanding. Exams are hard but doable. You need to understand mot memorize.
Promotes a cooperative classroom environment. The exams are not easy, but you will be fine if you prepare and pay attention to the lecture. Cox is much more detailed oriented and you have to understand WHY reactions occur. Cox can answer questions with greater depth than Parise but you also need to understand concepts at a deeper level.
I was dreading orgo, but Cox made it very straightforward. His exams will challenge you, but the grading format gives you a lot of wiggle room. Overall an extremely gifted educator. He clearly loves chemistry and his students. So receptive to questions and communicative in office hours. A really funny and nice guy overall.
Take orgo 2 at the Marine Lab with Cox! Best choice ever. He makes the material so interesting + marine lab is amazing. Made me love orgo.
Good professor. Analytical had a lot of content but he was clear in what we need to know. Took a more practical approach to emphasize specific instead of everything. Your grade is correlated with effort. In class activities are graded on participation with homework being significant (30%) of the final grade. Exams open note and computer.
Prof. Cox is caring & committed to his students doing well. He is clearer than his co-instructor despite his topics being more complex. He lays out the content clearly but needs to review and study it. Chemistry requires practice. Some of my peers think they should walk out knowing everything perfectly, but as Cox says, chemistry takes practice.
Your grade matches your effort. The lecture is MUCH easier than the lab, but you learn a lot. The lecture focuses on what you will NEED to do in your career/lab and is less focused on picky details. Presentations & p-sets make up most of the grade, but these can be challenging. Overall a good way to finish up your senior year. He is very nice.
Dr. Cox is an excellent lecturer who cares about the success of his students. This could be a tough class with limited chem experience, but regardless, the best way to succeed is to go to his problem solving office hours and do all discussion problems. Labs do take some time but are also very manageable.
Prof. Cox is extremely caring about his students' success. Students who think otherwise simply haven't tried or didn't want to try. The exams are straightforward. The lectures are engaging with Aktiv problems dispersed throughout and interesting case studies on sustainability. If you go to his lectures, you do well on the exams. No tricks on exams.
In hindsight, he's a really good professor. While you're taking the class, you'll probably be overwhelmed given the course content. However, he truly does want students to succeed and gives you A LOT of resources to do so. Go to/Watch his office hours, then study them-- and you will be set for life. Highly recommend him.
I didn't care for him initially because he has high expectations and is a little snarky and blunt. However, now that I am organic, I realize he went above and beyond. I feel well prepared, and he gave us a ton of time and support. Overall with Cox, you will learn chemistry and be prepared or organic, but he doesn't deal with BS and whining.
Cox is hands down the best prof I've had. Took orgo 2 after an atrocious orgo 1 with qiu wang, yet cox has actually made me enjoy learning about chem. His lectures are super engaging because he goes slowly through the material and ensures everyone understands the content. Super accessible because he dedicates all his time to this class. Love him.
Cox is truly an amazing professors and provides SO many resources for you to excel. Go to office hours, do the organomech practice problems, utilize his lecture summaries, study guides, and "reaction ragers" and you'll be okay. He explains concepts well. The amount of homework (problem sets and discussion) can get overwhelming sometimes though.
Very knowledgeable and teaches using energetics, which is very different than the approach taken in 201. This approach was initially hard, but it made sense and increased my understanding of mechanisms. Lectures, which are recorded, are key to understanding the content. Exams are very hard, but there is a lot of support. Duke is lucky to have him.
Orgo 2 is miserable no matter who you take it with. If you have to take this class, DEFINITELY take it with Cox.
Organic Chemistry II is a challenging course, but Professor Cox makes the course as easy as possible. He is very understanding and wants his student to do well. He is always available outside of class and holds multiple office hours to ensure students have access to help while completing assignments. Class is not solely based on assignments.
Kinda hard to get an A in the class given there is no curve and your grade is basically just exams. Cox is a really great lecturer, the TAs were amazing, and office hours/support is always available at your convenience. Wish Cox had more drip though but overall a solid class
Started off with him in Chem 110 freshman year with very limited chemistry knowledge. I had 201 and 202 with him subsequent semesters and he was hands down the best professor I ever had. I learned so much about general and organic chemistry. He makes learning engaging and interesting. Very accessible in office hours and a very fair grader.
CHARLIE COX IS THE BEST! Such a good person and AMAZING professor. 100000/10. Take this class every single time.
Took Chem 202 with Cox at the Marine Lab. Transformative experience-- took a lot of courses at Duke but I have to say come in ready to dedicate hours of your time to Organic Chemistry every day because this was one of the most challenging courses I'd ever taken. Cox is a lovable guy though and he will give you the motivation to succeed.
210 is not easy, and having the Parise version of general chemistry made things worse. With that said, Cox was willing to help us succeed by reviewing parts of 101 that should have been covered. I learned a lot of general chemistry, and I found the redox and metal chemistry very interesting. Cox gives a project in lieu of a final, which was nice.
Amazing professor. Super caring and genuinely a good lecturer, really makes an effort to explain things. Fair grading policies and most people do pretty well despite Orgo 2 being a very difficult class.
This is his first semester in 99, and there were quirks, but chemistry is hard. He is caring and wants us to do well. He provides a lot of resources and exams are fair. He normally doesn't teach 99, but he definitely tried to help us get ready for 101. I never took chemistry before, and I feel confident moving into the next course.
He's literally just amazing.. jk i never had him before im from UW
I did not attend the class, having enrolled only for the easy NS credit. That said, exams were fair, and Charlie came across as a genuinely good and caring person when I'd see him on exam days. Many of my peers share that sentiment. I would recommend any course taught by Charlie, particularly for Chemistry majors.
Excellent class, with 55% exams, 45% homework/project, with a solid foundation for different analytical methods and data analysis. Prof. Cox genuinely cares about teaching. I didn't need to use outside references beyond his concise notes. My only complaint is that his exams are a time crunch. Also having him for o-chem would have been helpful.
I was nervous about taking chemistry because of my lack of experience from high school. I struggled a lot, but Cox truly cares for his students. Everyone had very different experiences, but he really wanted to reach every student. The discussions were great and he provided a ton of resources. Cox is a gem, and I look forward to having him again.
