crixell is an excellent professor..very helpful and goes out of his way to help you out. I'd reccomend him to any comm student. Exams are pretty easy, but writings are very detailed and tricky. Crixell does offer curves.

Crixell is a great teacher, and well-experienced to boot. If you follow the guidelines he gives you and also follow your AP Style Book, you will be fine. Crixell is my favorite professor, his class was so enjoyable!

He is hilarious, the AP Style Book will be your "Bible" in the class, and you will learn a lot! He is one of the best profs in the Communication department.

best prof i had after 5 yrs and a double major at uh. he KNOWS his stuff. funny, friendly, interesting, helpful. 35 peeps crammed into a class limited to 20. don't take ryan, crixell is the man. ap stylebook is it. get an old used one off amazon for $2. it's impossible not to learn something in this class. should be required for everyone.

Crixell is probably one of the smartest COMM teachers at UH. His classes are fun, interesting and you actually walk away knowing so much more than you went in with. I would take any class he taught!

This is one of my favorite classes. Crixell is a character and makes his class worth while. His tests are a little difficult, but the quizzes should help and also he gives extra credit. I learned much from this class. This class is never boring because he always has an insane story to tell.

Crixell is the best professor I ever met. He is funny,cool,professional...you can't imagine how much you can learn from him. You'll regret if you don't take him. By far the BEST professor at UH School of Communication!! He knows his stuff and will work with you to help you understand. His exams are kind of tough, but go to class, ask questions and you will be fine. Such a cutie!

Loved this professor! He is very real. Gives lots of real life stories from the Chronicle. Kinda tough material, but he gives lots of bonus points and really helps everyone do well in the class. I think he's cute in a newspaper nerd sort of way. That's my type, though. hehe.

Took him for 2310 and I'm currently in his 3311 class. He's able to make his classes very interesting by sharing amazing stories. There are style quizes almost everyday. And the tests are multiple choice/true and false and a section that resembles style quizes. Fairly easy A.

THE LAB IS 70% OF GRADE. TAKE CRIXELL AS YOUR LAB PROFESSOR. HE'S A GREAT TEACHER AND KNOWS HIS STUFF- HE DOES WHAT HE TEACHES FOR THE CHRONICLE. IMPRESSIVE. THIS IS ONE OF THE FIRST COMM CLASSES THAT INVOLVES MATERIAL THAT WILL BE APPLIED IN YOUR CAREER. I HAD HARRINGTON FOR MY LAB PROF.- WOULDN'T RECOMEND HIM IN THE LEAST.

No need to reiterate Crixell's awesomeness. He is a fun guy and you learn a lot in his class. His style is laidback which adds to his awesomeness. Harrington as lab professor can seem a bit loopy at first, but it is just his own teaching style. Give it some time and you'll see he is a great guy too. I learned tons about writing in both classes.

I agree with everyone else. One of the best classes, and best professors I have ever had. If you try, you will do well. You learn a lot, and hes very funny. Be on time, as part of your grade comes from easy open book quizzes that he hands out right when class begins!

Crixell is funny and good at editing, of course. He is pretty straight forward with what he teaches. It can be confusing because editing can be done many different ways and still be correct. He gives you handouts, mainly. Make sure you study those and your style book well. He's tricky....and has a great sense of humor.

Great Professor. Cancels class sometimes and is late which gives you extra time to get to class. Professor is very approachable and is not too difficult. Take his for a lab professor if you can because I have another lab professor and we have too many little assignments to do. Crixell is awesome!

This professor is a breath of fresh air. Academia is filled with egotistically entitled individuals, but Crixell is anything but. He will go out of his way to help you learn and hone your writing skills. Take this class, you will not regret it.

Probably one of the best professors in the school of communications. His dry humor is funny. Take him for lecture and lab...definitely tough on you cause he wants you to understand writing styles, but it's all worth it at the end. Need help? Just talk to him...very cool!

This is my second time taking Crixell and he is GREAT! I am a better writer from taking his class. Class is always interesting and fun. The lessons are easy to understand and he is very approachable.

I LOVE this guy! I took him for 2310 & 3311, I just wish there were more classes to take with him. He's so funny, helpful and KNOWS what he's teaching. Crixell is hilarious and really knows how to keep a classes attention. The hour goes by so fast and I suggest taking him for every class you can. He has tons of experience and can help you further your career, i.e. helping you get an internship with the Chronicle.

if you have to take this class take crixell. he is very nice, entertaining and understanding - and if you are interested in this field you will really LEARN your stuff. attendance isnt "mandatory" but he will mark you absent every now and then. there are lots of "style quizzes" easy hw assignments, a few assignments, and 2 take home tests -TAKE HIM

Do not take this course unless you are a COMM major. I am a HLT major and wanted an easy elective-uh no. His stuff is very detailed and he is a good professor. You will learn a lot, but only if you are interested. Do not take expecting an easy A.

Crixell is a great and interesting teacher. He does pick his favorites and they will for sure get an "A" so get on his good side. He is picky with work but overall easier tha most. Midtem and Final a giveaway.

Make sure you go to class. If you even miss once you feel so far behind. His class is hard but helpful, I still use the stuff he tought us. I didnt really enjoy his class all that much because he is so scatter brained. A lot of work required for this class. So if you are looking for an eazy class this is NOT the one!

I have taken both his classes 2310 & 3311. He is a really great professor, has passion for what he teaches. Know this is not an easy A class, but you learn for life. You will catch yourself editing all the time.

I honestly never EVER take the time to write a review or anything but for professor Crixell it's a must. The best professor I have had at UH thus far, and this is ,my fourth year here! Professor Crixell is the best, he is very helpful, and although editing might not be the funnest subject he does a heck of a job by making it really fun. 3 test and AP Style quizzes which will be helpful in your career.

Charlie is a great teacher. Took him for 2 COMM classes and passed both with B+ with little to no effort. He does give a lot of assignments and quizzes but most are take home so If you follow you style book you will make 100s. DONT GUESS! Also, listen closely to what he wants on assignments. If you give him what he wants, you will pass.

Professor Crixell is amazing. I took COMM 3311 and although it is a relatively hard class, it ended up being the best class ever. My native language is Russian, I thought I'm going to fail this class but he helped me a lot with being clear about what I need to work on and what are his requirements. You won't regret taking his class.

Very good professor. You can't slack off in any of his classes. However he doesn't make them impossible either. You put in the effort and it will pay off. Lots of assignments, but not too difficult. BRING YOUR AP STYLE BOOK EVERY DAY!!! attend every class or you might miss out of extra credit opportunities.

Seriously one of the best teachers I have ever had at any level. I don't need the class as it isn't essential to my major but it still counted towards my elective credit. But seriously take him. Funny guy, really nice, willing to help but expect to work.

Style quizzes are extremely easy. Writing assignments? Not so much. They are doable, but Crixell does try to trick you. He gave our class extra credit on the super editing quiz and midterm. It helped the class grade. Don't sweat too much. It is manageable to get an A, extremely easy to get a B.

He can be a tricky grader but he follows the style book rules so as long as you use that you'll get an A. It's an inexpensive book, I used the same one in his COM2310 class. He has a good sense of humor and he gives extra credit. If you need an extra comm credit take this class!! It's really not hard at all. He's laid back with attendance too.

He's hilarious and a great teacher. I'd recommend him again and again! He's definitely a tricky grader... but follow the class motto QUESTION EVERYTHING and confer with the stylebook, and you'll be fine.

Super funny and nice. Very chill and relaxed. Style quizzes are easy the writing part is harder but he wont let you fail if you work with him.

You will only need your AP stylebook for this class. He gives weekly take home AP style quizzes which are extremely easy. The writing assignments weren't that difficult. There's also an editing "super quiz" and midterm but both are open book and gives extra credit.

He is an awesome professor! He's helpful and clear about what he expects. Although, he will certainly make exceptions as needed. Extra credit is given on almost every assignment as well. There's no way any one can fail his class. Plus, he only requires one book, which was $10 to rent. TAKE HIM!

Professor Crixell is wicked cool. He's super sarcastic and keeps lectures interesting. If your're majoring in COMM and have to take 2310, def choose him. AP style book is the only textbook (maybe $15 at B&N) AND it's needed for other higher level COMM courses.

Professor Crixell is truly an incredible professor. In my 2 years at UH I have honestly never been taught by such a hands-on, funny, EXPERIENCED and all-round incredible professor. If I could take 120 credit hours of a Crixell class in just one semester that would be the best lol. TAKE HIM!!!

I took one of his classes last semester; I saw his name come up for another class tis semester and I immediately registered for his class. His tests are not too difficult, but you DO have to pay attention in class. He is really funny, and very clear about assignments/tests. He likes giving away bonus points, so show up to class.

This is literally the hardest class I've ever taken. However, I learned SO much. This class really made me a better writer and Crixell is such a good person and so funny. Besides that though, he is a tough grader and the questions on his test are very tricky. This is not a blow off class by any means.

Crixell's lecture was very easy. He was clear and to the point, though he mostly reads from the handout he posts online, so not many students showed up to class very often. His teaching methods are easy to understand.

Crixell is one of the best professors I've had, informative and entertaining. The course itself is a bit difficult- you'll learn to edit print media, lots of rules and guidelines, but if you go to class, it is easy . You should definitely pay attention and create a groupme. I skipped regularly and it affected my work- still made an A- overall.

Professor Crixell is a wonderful professor, he is funny, not needy and doesn't overload you with work. He is relaxed and very thorough about what he wants, he offers extra credit as well. I would take him again for sure! He can be tricky with his assignments, but once you get to know him it's easy to figure out what he's looking for.

The only textbook required is the AP stylebook. Prof. Crixell is the kind of professor who sets you to become better. Ignore all the bad ratings about him. This guy is setting you up for success and that's what college is about. After being in his class, you know how to write and speak better. PLEASE take him cause he keeps it real.

Professor Crixell was always a joy to be around in class and he made learning grammar so much easier. It was cool to be taught about leads in news from someone who actually is an Editor at the Houston Chronicle. Super awesome professor! I wish I could take him again!

If you're taking Crixell for the lecture, make sure to take his lab too, DO NOT TAKE HARRINGTONS LAB (He is a nice man, who I personally got along with well, but makes this easy class HELL). Crixell offers a lot of feedback, lots of extra credit, and bumped my grade to an A. I'm taking him again for Print Editing and cannot recommend him enough!

Professor Crixell was the most compassionate professor I have had so far. He was really good at lecturing and going through the content we would end up using on the final. It was supposed to be in person, but he had unfortunate circumstances at the beginning of the semester so it went straight to zoom. Definitely would take me over and over again.
