He knows the subject matter very well. He makes the class exciting by lecturing with energy and enthusiasm. My advice for success in this class: read, understand, absorb, re-read as all his tests are essays. You choose two out of six subjects to write about.
Excellent, excellent teacher. Exams are essays but are mostly from his lectures. NV history is sucky boring but he makes class fun and has a very outgoing, energetic personality. Wouldnt call him hot, but he is young and interesting.
This guy is very cool. I enjoyed his class and looked forward to it. It's not hard to get at least a B in his class. He makes a story out of everything and makes the boring interesting. A+ Teacher!
This instructor is very entertaining and energetic with his lectures. He provides plenty of opportunity to ask questions and takes the time to make sure each student is learning. One must do the assigned readings and participate in his lectures to get the most out of the class. Overall, an excellent instructor with a sense of humor!
he is the man
he's boring! I fell asleep a lot during his lecture. He's a great guy though.
Awesome teacher! He is the most down to earth prof. you will ever take. The subject is not easy, but thats not his fault. I really liked him.
MAKES THE BORING STUFF WORTH LISTENING TO.
Charlie is so much fun to have as a Prof. He makes everything you learn easy to understand, and always has some funny lame jokes to tell. Definitly take Charlie is you want history lectures to be fun. Yes I said it... History Fun!... He makes it that way!
he is a AMAZING teacher. he really makes it fun to learn about a boring topic. you actually want to get up at the crack of dawn just to go to his class!!
Best history teacher ever!!! He really makes his lectures come alive. You don?t really need to read the book. Never a boring class. TAKE HIS CLASS !!!!!!!!!
He was incredible.
Very funny guy. Makes history easy to understand. Explains everything really well. Few papers are easy if you attend class and just listen.
I took him for 101, and loved him so much I had to take him for 102. He's probably the coolest professor ever, and makes history incredibly easy to understand. I feel like a friend is teaching me every time. I learned a lot, and gained a great appreciation for history. I'd recommend to everyone!!!
I took him for history 101, and loved him so much i had to take him again. He's an amazing teacher, and he sincerely cares for his students. Class discussions are fun and entertaining, and I feel as though a friend is teaching the class. I'd recommend to everyone!
By far the best teacher i have taken in college. His lectures are great and he is very clear about the information. Highly Recommended!
You need to take his class. the only problem is he is a brown's fan:-)
Charlie is a fantastic teacher and a great guy. He inspires passion for history and knows his stuff. If you're dreading a history class you ought to take him because he'll keep you laughing even in the slowest of lectures.
This is the most down-to-earth prefessor EVER! His lectures are THE BEST! Very passionate and informative about his subject! Great personality and super cute. But you have to know your questions because he gives you a list of 6 but you only get to do 1 of 2 that he picks.
He is an awesome teacher! I would recomend him to everyone. Especially to those that don't like history that much. He makes it interesting and tells some fun stories that will help you remember facts.
Mr. Deitrich is the best teacher I have taken. I take all my classes at UNLV but for history it has to be Mr. Deitrich. He is by far the best History teacher at I have ever taken. Somehow he finds ways to make history fun. His lectures are the best. I took him for both History 101,102, and now I am planning to take him for History 217.TAKE HIM!!!!!
Mr. Deitrich's lectures are insightful and never dull. He is one of the reasons why I am on my way to becoming a history major. Take him for whatever history class he is teaching for the smester and I promise your semester will be valued for the grade you earn.
Great professor. Very helpful and you learn a lot.
Charlie is an amazing professor. Took him for Nevada history and he made even the most boring of topics interesting. His tests are straight forward from lecture and the text. They are essay format he gives you six questions in advance and 2 will be on the test and you answer 1. The class is very easy.
he is a great teacher if you dont like writing tests you might not want to take this class but then you would miss out and a great professor!!
He's SO FUNNY! He makes history facts you've been hearing about for the last 10 years of school INTERESTING! His tests are essay format. He gives you a list of questions to study, and randomly chooses 2 of them for the essay. Attendance isn't mandatory but he covers everything for the essays in lectures, so go to class and you won't need the book.
I took Deitrich for my 101 class and had to take him again. He's truly a friend and a teacher with a good sense of humor and enough energy to wake you up in the morning with his lectures. He has a way with explaining history that helps you recall it easilly. I have always looked forward to his class. His effort inspires me to do my best in return.
LOVE this teacher! He is a great teacher and very easy to talk to. Show up and take notes. Tests are based almost entirely on his lectures. This is the second class that I've taken with Charlie and even though I'm transferring to NSC, I will still be taking 101 with Charlie at CSN
Great class, makes hist interesting
if you attend every class and pay attention you'll get an a. that simple
One of the greatest teachers i have had in a very long time. Lectures are easy to understand and you are always entertained. He is great, take him if you can!!!!!!!
I don't want to sound overly negative, but his own political bias creeps in hard in some of his lectures, which might put you in the position of reciting back on assignments what he wants to hear versus what might be more historically accurate. Fortunately though, he is entertaining enough to make the hour and a half fly by.
I took him online, & the quizzes were CRAZY hard. I studied 2-3 chapters in 2 texts + the lecture notes for 5 hours at a time and STILL couldn't get over a B. Easy grading for papers and discussions, or I would have gotten a C in this class. I really put in work, it was so discouraging. NO study guides, just tests based on 5 chapters, too broad!
Deitrich was my first class of the day and he always comes in energetic and oddly happy! lol he is a great teacher though, grades fair and makes a history class interesting
He is an amazing history professor! Extremely passionate about history that I feel like he can lecture without a book or notes! He is sarcastic and funny and it makes learning the material a lot easier not to mention fun. He is always willing to help you and there is no work just taking notes and study for the exams. Definitely Would take him again
I took his online class and it was easy. Of course, if you don't read the material you will not pass. But he is very helpful and replies to emails relatively quickly. It may be an online class, BUT if you think that you can take his quizzes without reading...think again!
One of the greatest teachers ever! Fun and interesting!
great teacher! this was the third and sadly, final class I took with him. Highly recommended, he makes the mundane, fun
There's really nothing to complain about this professor. He definitely knows his stuff & explains it in an entertaining way. leans reeeally far left, but what teacher doesn't?
Great teacher learned alot from him. Never liked history b4 now find it interesting.
Would definitely recommend! Great teacher! Learned a lot and he made history interesting!
Awesome, kinda like Dane Cook for History. All you have to do is pa attention and be prepared for the Midterms and Final and you'll have a great semester.
I took Charlie for Hist 101, 102, and Nevada history. I wish he taught every class I needed to take. Seriously, the best professor I have ever had. Don't buy the book, go to class, listen, write on the outlines, and you'll pass. Super helpful and easy midterms&exams. I love history, and he made my love it even more.
Awesome professor, but difficult course. Test questions are very detailed and often difficult. However, provides all the information you need to succeed. Returns emails within hours, if not sooner. Nothing negative to say, amazing!!!
Easy A 4 week online summer class. Lots to read, but the material is easy. 4 discussion posts and a 4 chapter exam each week. Keep up with the reading and the discussion posts and you'll do great!
Great Professor! Must read books to pass class. If you need help with anything he is more than happy to assist.
I took his class for a 4 week summer online course and it's super easy. Read the chapters, post in the discussion boards and take the tests and you will do fine. Very helpful and quick to respond. If I needed more History, I would probably take him again
Charlie is one of the best teachers I have had at CSN. If you are really willing to try in his class he recognizes it and gives you positive feedback. There is virtually no homework except when studying for the three tests during the semester. If you are unsure about going back to college his class is perfect to start with.
Charlie is definitely one of CSN's finest. He is very helpful and makes you want to learn. He is quick to respond to emails/message board responses. I hope to take more of his classes in the future even though I'm done with history!
Charlie is a great teacher. Always interesting and helpful. He goes out of his way and takes an interest in the students. Be prepared for your midterms and finals and you will be ok in the class.
I took Charlie for History 101 and 102 and I can honestly say that he is the BEST teacher I've had in my entire life! His lectures are fun and very informative and I learned SO much. You can tell that he is very passionate about history and teaching it, too, and that definitely makes the class worthwhile, not to mention he's hilarious.
Charlie is the best professor ive had at CSN yet! this guy is so funny man. jokes about everything and his class is super easy, its impossible to failthis, unless you literally dont do anything. ive had him for history102 and I learned so much, his speeches are very good and the way he teacehs mademe want to show up everyclass
Charlie is so awesome! I loved coming to class. He cares about the students and wants you to do well. Not only was his class fun and interesting but I learned so much about history. He is very easy to listen to, and tells funny jokes and stories to keep students interested in the subject. LOVED him! Take this guy if you can!
This Prof. is awesome. Not only was this a semi easy class but I learned SOOO much from him. I hope to take his 102 class next semester. He gives you the questions that will be on the midterm and final. (tests are essay form) And he usually gives out extra credit work if you ask.
I absolutely loved this class. So much that I'm taking his 102 next semester. History is hard for me, and he made it so easy to understand, and it was really fun! 6 one page papers, you do them or don't, and 2 exams. If you go to the class, you'll pass.
I am really going to miss this guy. I just took my last class with him. He really is a great prof. He cares about his students and loves what he does for a living. He will help you if you dont understand something, but he explains things so well that you probably won't have to ask :) Highly recommend this guy!!!!
Charlie is the man. You have to put in effort to get a decent grade in his class. It was a rather challenging class, but at least it was comprehensible. It is mandatory that you read the book, that way his test are simpler. Remember the mid term and final exam are essay format.
If you ever have to take history whether you hate the subject or not. Take his class! He loves what he does and is willing to he help those who are having a hard time with some concepts but overall you wouldn't have a problem understanding things since he explains it so well. I promise you won't get bored in his class.
In this class you have to work for a decent grade. He just requires 6 single page essays, and 2 exams. Just like any class, you have to read the textbook because that's what the test's revolve around. But taking notes and listening well to his lectures helps a lot. Other than that, he's a great teacher.
I hated - HATED history, so I put off taking it till the end. If I had taken his class in the first semester, I would have switched my major to history!
I took the online class. He was slow on posting grades. By the end of the semester I ended with a bad grade and only missed one assignment. Would not take this teacher again!!
This is the only class I enjoyed this semester. He is great at making the class interesting and makes History into one great story. His mid term reminded me how much I loved writing and school. Just pay attention in class and take good notes to succeed.I definitely would have been burnt out on college if I hadn't of taken this course.
Took his class online. Easy class and there is no final. He also puts all the material up at once so you can work at your own pace.
Professor Deitrich is very nice and entertaining. If you need to take a History class I would highly recommend Charlie Deitrich! He made learning fun and entertaining! If you didn't understand something he would explain it thoroughly with real life concepts! I can't wait to take HIST217 with him!
I love Charlie Deitrich! He is the best at teaching History I learned so much! And he makes class so fun! Plus he is hot. Not at first but once you see how cool and funny... man he is hot lol. Mid terms and final are both essay format. Take notes and you'll be fine!
Charlie is an awesome teacher, he takes a rather boring topic and makes it fun and interesting. He makes the historical facts and date easy to comprehend. I'm definitely taking his 102 course
I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this class. I'm not a huge fan of my native state so I didn't think I'd care about its history. Anyway, I loved the way this class was structured (a lot of flexibility - work ahead or procrastinate and cram - whatever suits you best). I thought the grading was fair. *If* you do the reading you'll get an easy A.
Fun Class Great book Great professor
Really nice guy. The class had a good structure, and you could really work at your own pace, there were no surprises with the assignments since there were only discussions and exams, and an assigned paper. Would definitely take him again!
Charlie Deitrich is amazing with a capitol "A". He's in my top three best instructors I've ever experienced in school.
I absolutely love this teacher! He has given me so many opportunities to make up work when life got rough. His lectures are awesome and so easy to follow. Funny, friendly, and witty with just enough sarcasm to make history worth hearing about. Not to mention, he's pretty good looking! ;)
The Best teacher for History at csn , very clear on what you need to do on the discussions , gives you a lot of time to complete your discussions, and exams. He goes by units you have about 4 discussions and 1 exam in each unit. I would take him again if I could. you need your text books
I wasn't too excited about learning about Nevada. He is a great teacher though!! Made the class exciting and learned interesting information about the state. I wish he was teaching History 101. Assignments were easy but tests a little tough although open book. Need to read the chapters.
Bear with me, this is a semester late, but I don't remember ever having to do too much work in his class. He's was super funny and likable. Definitely passionate about his teaching and seemed to care about his students. I would definitely take his class again, I wish I took him for 101, too!
Very easy class, almost too easy. When everyone receives 100% on an assignment you know the teacher is easy. Do the work and you will get an A. I learned a lot about Nevada history and it was an easy stress-free class.
Charlie Deitrich is by far the best professor I've experienced in my years of college. No one can match his wit and sense of humor. I loved coming to class everyday and being excited to learn about history. I had him last semester for History 101 and I had to get him again! Take him, whatever you do!
I took his class and I had absolutely no regrets at all. He makes learning history fun. We had 1 page papers due regarding what we have learned in each section. Tests were at least two pages essays on 1 of multiple topics. He was lax in his grading the assignments, but make sure you know the facts for the tests because that is when he is stricter.
This has been my favorite class so far! Mr. Deitrich has an in-depth knowledge of US History and is there whenever you need him. The class consists of lectures and simple essay questions. Quite often, he goes on tangents, relating what we're talking about to modern society andor culture (they are often funny). You should definitely take this class
Great teacher. If you need help he will help you. I like that you can go at your own pace, that way their is no pressure. Sections are due weekly however. Their is allot of reading but i learned allot.
Being that it was a 4- WEEK SUMMER COURSE there was a unit due every week Friday by 5pm. (You had to do 3-4 reading responses, an exam on 5 chapters that were 20 questions & timed @40 minutes w 1 attempt) Lastly, we had to write a report on our experience at one of the listed museums. Do the work and reading and you can get an A.
Professor Deitrich is an amazing teacher he made everything so crystal clear and fun it was an absolute treat being in his class. He really changed my perspective on things. So far hes the best teacher I've EVER had. EVER.
Took this class for fall '15 online. Super easy class if you just read! The tests are all based on the book and units are done at your own pace. Don't be intimidate by the word 'read', I am not a fan of history but if I can do it, you can! Basically a unit a month - 4 quizzes , 4 discussion assignments. Break it into per. weeks or all in one week.
Professor Deitrich is the best History professor I know. He isnt like most history professors that bore you to sleep. He makes his lecture very entertaining and very easy to follow. I would take any class he offers in the future (assuming it would fit with my schedule. lol)
I have taken him for both 101 and 102. You just listen to him talk. His notes are generalized so write anything he says! You do have 6 papers (1 pg. at least) and 2 tests. The test questions are the EXACT same as the study ones. He picks 3 of those and you write about one of YOUR choosing! He's amazing! P.S. He loves The Walking Dead and baseball.
One of the best teachers I have ever had in my entire life. I almost want to retake the class from how fun it was to hear him lecture. He is a extremely funny and very compassionate about his job. Hes a tough grader on the midterm and final, but you should be fine if you take down good notes.
The history 101 class is extremely easy. The main assignments for this course are just one page papers graded on credit or no credit. All you have to do in this class is try and that's really what the professor wants, for students to learn and hopefully gain something from this class. Anyone who does not get an A was simply not trying.
Charlie loves his job and it shows in his lectures. He has a great way of explaining historical events so that students can relate. His classroom is not a boring environment. Do yourself a favor and participate in class, it is worth it.
4 small papers and 2 tests(essays). Easy to pass if you just listen and take a few notes. Before you know it you will be learning History...
I took his Nevada History class and loved it, i got into it and it was fun to learn about Nevada, so i tok him for History 101, as long as you read the chapters you should do decent on the test. No Final's and you can do this class along with 3-4 others without stressing.
He is very passionate of what he teaches. Tough but fair with grading. If you are really into history, he is a the right teacher for you. Expect lots of writing and reading out of the book. Exams are written test, so study a lot. Sometimes during lectures he tends to get off topic, but its very entertaining.
He is one of the best teachers I have ever had! He is super nice and he is so helpful with anything. He LOVES when you ask questions and participate in the discussion; it really helps your grade out in the end. I will definitely take him again and recommend him to anyone who needs to take a History class!
If you are really interested in history this is a no brainer, take this class. If not I might consider another professor cause the exams can be pretty challenging. If you're like me and don't like to study his essay exams will force you to do so. Of course if you spend a little time studying you'll do fine on the tests. Overall very good class.
I really liked Professor Deitrich. I took his 4 week summer online class which requires 15 reading responses and 15 quizzes. The quizzes were easy. He was a good professor, and I would take him again. I got an A in his class. Very nice professor. I would take him again.
I took this professor for a 2016 4 week summer class and ended up with an A. Be prepared to read two books simultaneously. One book I had to read 5 chapters a week and take a test on it. The other book was used for discussions. You have to read for tests, google will not help you. I also had to visit a nevada musem and write 750 word paper on it.
I took this professor for HIS 101 and I found him to be so helpful. He explains things in a way that makes it easy to understand and doesn't just lecture. I ended up taking him again for HIS 217 and he really cares about his students. He wants his students to succeed and he'll go out of his way to help the students who need help. Amazing professor.
This Professor is amazing. I took his online class. The course goes by 4 modules. Each module has 4 assignments and 1 exam. The exam has a fair enough of time. Each assignment is one question or 1 video and is very straight forward. Each question is on 1 chapter that you have to read. Many of the chapters are literally 5 pages long. Easy A :)
Charlie Deitrich was one of the most liberal professors I have taken thus far in my academic career. Taking this into consideration it was hard to sit through his roasting of opposing political parties and their beliefs, however, whenever he would, at the end of the day it was all in good fun. He is clearly passionate of what he teaches.
Charlie Deitrich is by far one of the GREATEST teachers I have ever had. I would have him teach all my classes if he could. He's GREAT at lecturing. Course grading consists of 6 papers (credit or no credit) at 25%, midterm 25%, final 25%, attendance 25%. Study questions are given and those are what the papers and tests are on. Definitely, take him!
What an incredible professor... Deitrich has been an irreplaceable recourse for me as a history major here in Henderson. I have never learned so much from any other class!! TAKE HIM!
500 word essays....I really have no complaints about this class or teacher. He is so nice and funny! Pass or fail kind of grader.
Great teacher and person with a sense of humor too. Attendance is mandatory, take notes. 6 papers total, 3 before midterm, 3 after, 500 word min. each, graded as credit/no credit. Midterm and Final are just writing a paper in class on 1 of 3 randomly selected study questions, which he posts prior. If you study you'll pass. Also has extra credit.
A great teacher and good friend. I took his 101 and then I decided to take my 102 with him as well, although his classes are in Henderson campus and I live in Sumerlin. He makes his lectures fun and interesting. I learned more than history from his classes. There were too much writing, but it worth.
He is super nice and this class is great. The two books about Nevada are very interesting. If you read the books you'll do great on his tests and his discussions are fun and easy. One paper about a museum you have to visit in the valley and what's great is that the modules are work at your own pace! Very good class.
I hate online classes, but this one was so well put together! He is always more than willing to help with any confusion and really enjoys his job. I have never been one to read text books, but you don't have a choice in this class. Also have to go to a museum, but I had fun! I chose the Mob Museum! Wonderful teacher, great class! Highly recommend!
He is one of those people who you won't forget. You'll learn so much from him. I took his HIST101 first and although I had to drive all the way down to Henderson twice a week, I took his 102 as well. For someone like me who didn't grow up in the U.S I learned more than history from him.
I never thought I would say this but I have become a history junkie. Charlie Deitrich is AMAZING and you can really tell he is passionate about what he does! I have now taken two of his history classes and I really wish I could take more! The class is easy just show up, take notes and do the super easy weekly assignments. He is also super HOTT!
If you are thinking to take a history class TAKE HIM NOW! He is the best history teacher in the history of the United States :) .He cares about the success of his students, and if you need any help just go to his office and he will help you. He is a very inspirational person! I took his History 102 too for the next semester. TAKE HIS CLASS NOW!
This is essentially a capstone class that consists of writing one research paper. There weren't really any other assignments or activities, and it was very one-on-one in nature. Prof Deitrich is extraordinarily helpful and understanding in every way. I really enjoyed the class, the paper, and the interactions.
Online this was great! He gives us 4 units of work to do w/ each unit having a deadline of a month. They consist of small quizzes & discussion posts for each chapter. + a final Constitution quiz at the end. He gives constant reminders too. This class was very helpful for someone with a big load. You learn a lot too. He's very understanding.
was condescending to me multiple times as if I was too stupid to do anything academic, Im not into history, idk if thats why I found it so hard to learn anything but he didnt lecture in a way I could learn from/even take notes, easy weekly assignments. weekly assignment, attendance, midterm, and final all 25% each of grade. i wouldnt take again
Professor Deitrich was awesome! This class isn't hard at all. 4 reading responses and 1 test every month. You can do everything in the first month and be done with the class. There is a museum paper that you have to write and you can choose where you want to go. Professor Deitrich also gives great feedback. I highly recommend him!
Deitrich is a great teacher. We began class discussing current events and sometimes sports. In my experience there were two exams based on 7 questions he posted online on the first day. He randomly selects 3 and you have to write at least 2 pages about 1 of them. His classes are conversational lectures about the lesson of the day. Amazing class.
This was an easy A. I would tell people I was taking NV Hist and they would cringe but I never thought this class was boring or hard to get through. The books are easy to read, there are four discussion posts required and one quiz per unit and four units total. The work wasn't hard and the professor is hilarious if you deal with him in person :)
Very fun class I've always hated history but he made it very interesting and easier to understand. Amazing lectures, very funny class was never boring. 2 very easy weekly assignments, a midterm and a final which are a 2 page response (the 7 questions are given very far in advanced to prepare), and attendance counts but its easy to show up to class.
Mr. Deitrich is one of the best teachers, he cares about his students and wants to see them do well, he shows his views but whether you agree with them or not he is a cool guy to have as a teacher. He is funny and easy to learn from. There are 2 easy assignments a week and a midterm and final, very easy to pass. He is very lenient on due dates too!
Professor Deitrich is by far the best professor I have ever had. His lectures are clear and useful for the midterm and the final. There are two weekly assignments and opportunities for extra credit.
4 200-250 word reading responses and one 20 Q exam due every MONTH. Have plenty of time to complete. 2 books required. 1 for reading responses and 1 for exams One 750-900 word paper that is about a Nevada museum experience you go to on your own. extra credit offered.
Very caring professor. It's like he cares more about his students being okay and being healthy (in all forms) more than the course (WHICH IS A GOOD THING). His lectures are awesome and are points that it doesn't even feel like a history class. One of the best professors at CSN and highly recommend you take his class, you won't regret it!
Pros Lectures are entertaining Homework 1 current event & discussion post / week Easy going Cons Begging of class is taken up by sports/current events Midterm/final is a minimum 2 page paper written from a question you choose after he randomly chooses three out of the 7 he assigns for the unit Outlines don't give much info Rushes information
Charlie is by far the best professor you can have. The kind who genuinely wants you to learn and cares about you. I'm considering taking his Nevada history class just so I can have him again even though I don't need the credit. He is very accessible outside of class and his lectures are told with jokes and old history stories that make you laugh.
Charlie is an amazing teacher who truly tries his best and brings his "A" game to each and every class. He is entertaining to listen to and creates a lively classroom experience. His assignments challenged us to think in different ways about news, politics and history. His tests were simple and his grading was clear.
Charlie is very passionate about U.S history and goes out of his way to make sure his students have fun while learning. The lectures are straight forward and go hand in hand with his assignments that go hand and hand with the midterm and final. I would gladly take any class Profess Deitrich teaches.
You can pass this class if you put forth some effort. The class was very easy, and the professor was awesome. His lectures were easy and fun to listen to, and he connected with all his students. Teachers like this are hard to find!
Please take Mr. Deitrich for literally any class you can. This past semester has been amazing. I decided to drive half an hour twice a week for his class because his ratings were so good on here and he totally lived up to the hype. He makes class fun and interesting and easy to participate in. He's super caring too. Would take again in a heartbeat.
Professor Deitrich is extremely passionate about teaching. He teaches on many events and allows finds a link to help you better understand the context. I really enjoyed taking HIST 101 and 102 with him these past two semesters! I highly recommend you to take this caring professor for any class you can!!
I never really liked history before this class, but Professor Deitrich is very personal and connects with the class. His lectures were hilarious, and I looked forward to attending them. I cannot see why some people don't like him, because he treats his students exactly how you would expect. He has 3 weekly assignments, a midterm, and a final.
I just moved to NV from PA, and his class helped me feel comfortable starting my freshman year of college across the country. I hated history, but his lectures changed that. Dietrich is very funny during his lectures and cares a lot about his students. Every week, theres 3 assignments that help with reading, but also open your eyes to journalism.
One of the most outstanding teachers I've ever had. Professor Deitrich does not accept late work at all but he's the most sympathetic and accommodating person I'ver had. FYI-there's a bunch of reading to do, but you won't regret this course coming from somebody who never read a book and dislikes reading.
Professor Deitrich is an amazing teacher! This course has 15 reading responses and 4 exams. The responses are broken into 4 modules with an exam. You are given a bout a month to complete all 4 responses and exam for each module. There is a museum paper that is pretty easy to complete. You will need to read the textbook but it is an easy class.
Such a great history teacher!! He constantly sends out reminders for his students and truly cares about your success. He is entertaining and knowledgable about history. He is always accessible and will help you with anything! I highly recommend this class!!
Don't buy the book, he told us we may use it. Now I cant return it, even though it is still wrapped in cellophane. Little history was learned, a majority of the class was focused on the students learning his interpretation of critical analysis. Don't attempt to challenge his point of view because he will react with distain and borderline hostility.
Easy A. Dont waste your money on the text book. Mine still wrapped in the cellophane. Nice guy, good speaker, but not a good teacher. He attempts to teach critical thinking but gets hostile when someone presents a view that doesnt a line with his own. Find another professor if you are looking for something more substantial than an easy grade.
Easy class. The textbook is required but can be found as a PDF online. There are four units and it looks like a lot of assignments, but they're super easy and normally opinion-based. The final museum paper is fun, you just go to a museum and then write about it. Overall super easy and fun material to learn, I hate history and I enjoyed every second
I could have selected SO many of those aspects to describe Charlie. Literally the BEST professor i've EVER had. Assignments weren't bad doing, actually taught us useful stuff! You read two books to answer the discussion Qs and Tests. I really can't rave enough that this is the man to have as your professor. I actually capped out on words i can use.
Very easy class! Took him for Hist 101 and the only things that were required was a story of the week assignment and a weekly lecture that are both to be submitted through a discussion board. 3 audio lectures every two weeks with a requirement 250-500 words which take some time, but are easy questions to answer. Highly recommend! No text required
TAKE HIM IF YOU HAVE THE CHANCE! He is extremely understanding and his grading is very fair. Put in the effort and stay organized and it'll be almost impossible not to do well. His class consists of weekly lectures and assignments. No exams, no essays. I would and will be taking his courses again! favorite college professor so far!
I took this class fall of 2020, online. The professor really cares and keeps an open line of communication with his students. We had 2 weekly assignments and then 2-3 lectures due every 2 weeks, but as long as you took notes during lectures and followed the outline the questions were easy. Definitely would take his professor again no hesitation
Professor Deitrich was and still is my favorite professor I have ever had. He cares, and we would email back and forth at least once a week and he is so quick to reply. This online class only had one pop quiz the first week. He is a really easy grader and I never had any issues. His lectures can just a little long that's it!
put you're head down, do the work and you will pass with a HIGH grade. Super educated, so be prepared to learn a lot of cool stuff. He is easy going and makes learning history very fun and relatable. The text book is on pdf and but we used it once a week and he lets you choose what to read from short paragraphs. TAKE HIM, you will not regret it.
Amazing!!! Took his class online during the pandemic so he understands how tough times are so he provided us with free text. No tests! Does his own lectures (kind of like a podcast), take notes, and summarize them. 2 weekly assignments, pretty easy. You can turn in work late. Absolutely loved his lectures!!
Be aware! He's defensive when ones ideology separate from his view. He replied, ENOUGH! So I told him, "try to challenge yourself; you are still a student yourself." Don't expect to EXPAND your mind but rather shoved you on what "you have to know." Critical thinking doesnt apply to him. Not surprise why some students do not like him...
Professor Deitrich is one of the best teachers I have ever had. When I talk to others, I can apply what he has taught me and it's really a great feeling to be confident about US History. Put in a good effort and do the work and you will get a good grade. He makes it very clear here is there to help and always responds when you need something.
Theres no way I can do this man justice in 350 characters. His online lectures are like podcasts, the guy was made to lecture. Interesting, personable, funny, Mr. Deitrich is an absolute pleasure. Theres a lot of writing in this class, but it helps you absorb the info. Would 100% take another course with him.
Let's get one thing clear: Prof. Deitrich is a political activist first and a history professor second. His course is loaded with leftist ideology and he becomes extremely defensive if you try to call him out on it. Half of the assignments have nothing to do with history and everything to do with his point of view. Find someone else if possible!
I took this professor for all 3 of my history classes (217 Online).History 101 and 102, study the questions he hands out at the beginning and after midterm. You write a 1 page paper every 3 weeks. Then those questions will be on the midterm/final. He is also very opinionated and gets off track like people have said, but overall an easy class.
Charlie is the best, and he provides a lot for his students. Amiable guy as well, so he's hard to hate in general. He does grade stricter on his exams, but plenty of studying will balance that out. I took him for HIST220 as well, but he doesn't teach that anymore. Ask him about Vegas history; he's passionate about the local community!
Overall the class was easy as long as you did your homework. He has writing assignments on politics and you can tell how left he leans. Its a Nevada history class, why am I writing about fact-checking Covid?
Very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about Las Vegas history. Tests were based off information from textbook. Learned a lot of interesting information about Las Vegas history.
Great class. You are allowed to work ahead, even on tests. His lectures are extremely interesting. He gives very clear outlines of what he will cover. 20 reading responses, 4 exams, and a paper. Be prepared to read & write. A lot of work but worth it, you will learn a lot about Nevada and Las Vegas.
Great Professor! He taught us how to distinguish fake news and websites from legitimate sites. I learned a lot and everything in the lectures and videos pertained to the units. The units are self-paced, and you have four weeks to get everything done in each unit.
Great class and not too content-heavy. Class is split up into four sections: five discussions/postings and one quiz each. He posts one lecture per section and they're always super interesting. The only downside is the quizzes are pretty hard and he writes the questions himself, so just make sure you're thorough with the readings and you'll be fine.
This professor really cares and gives good feedback. He even offers extra credit. His lectures sound more like a podcast he is very interesting to listen to and you can tell he loves nevada history.
Professor Deitrich is awesome!!! I just took his Hist 101 class and in the spring I will be taking his Hist 102! Class meets once a week, he lectures, and you go home and do a lecture assignment. The entire course has 12 lecture assignments, 16 source evaluations, and 4 quizzes based on an online textbook he provides! Easy A if you do the work!
Work load is normal for college even in the 4 week online course; Discussions based on one book, 4 Tests based on another + NV's Constitution(as long as you read the book you're fine for tests and discussions), term paper(easy). He is a great professor who wants his students to learn something, those are rare nowadays. Choose this professor!!!!
Not a bad Professor, I did notice bias in his grading. If you don't agree with him, or don't see history as he does it definitely will be reflected. The marks received were because I didn't focus on what he deemed important, a lot of focus on format. The ego visible in most history professors is not as prominent. I would recommend him to others.
Grading criteria is clear, assignments may take a bit of time because lectures are 40-60mins, and gives excellent and meaningful feedback. Lectures are interesting, he sprinkles in little stories like its almost a podcast. All assignments are open, and you get about a month to finish a unit (13 assignments each).
Hey everyone? Good luck in hist 100! There one extra credit and quizzes and assignments to complete!
Hi everyone! I hope you having a good semester! The assignments and quizzes and one test are easy to complete!
Professor Dietrich gives amazing lectures with a hint of comedy. He gives personalized feedback on all assignments which is very nice. There is a lot of homework and source evaluations that tend to get repetitive as the semester goes on. All in all, I would highly recommend him as a professor.
I thought he was great! His lectures are prerecorded, and he has you do a short 250-500 word assignment for each. The downside is the lectures are 45 min each; I'm more of a math person, so I struggle to pay attention to things like that. I ended up dreading them and procrastinating a bit. They can really add up. Don't be like me.
Great professor that gives great feedback and wants you to learn. I took this class as a pre requisite but definitely made my semester that much better. One of the best teachers I've ever had of all time. K-12 and college. He takes the cake.
Professor Dietrich has the most entertaining lectures always ending with "Until bedtime, I'm history," which is very catchy. There is 3 source evaluations, 4 lectures, and two quizzes per module. There is also an app for the textbook. The assignments are set a month in advance so don't procrastinate! Overall, an easy class with a great professor!
Still trying to figure out how anyone could dislike the guy. The lectures are long it's true, but Professor Deitrich is hilarious and makes the nearly 2-hour lectures some of the best I have sat through. As long as you show up, follow his format, and give him what he is looking for in the lecture assignments and source evaluations, it's an easy A.
He is the best history teacher I've ever had. He will teach you things that don't make it into textbooks, he's incredibly funny, & he really cares about your learning. There's extra credit & he's a generous grader. His class is easy, very informative & very fun as long as you don't procrastinate. I would take him for every HIST class, he's amazing!
I took him as hydrid class! I recommend if you good at reading and doing writing assignments!
100/10. Very funny, I loved his attitude. You can really tell he loves teaching.
It's really easy to get an A in his class. His videos are entertaining. Even though he is clearly left leaning in his political views (which is different than my own), it didn't get in the way of the grading. I enjoyed learning history from him. He actually got me interested in the subject matter. I would take him again for future history classes.
100000000000/10.
Very nice professor. Allows late work, max half credit. A unit due every 3 weeks, so don't procrastinate! Lecture videos were clear and easy to follow, all information and texts are provided in the modules. Generous grader and very passionate about his job. I would recommend him to anyone who wants to learn history!
I ABSOLUTELY LOVED HIS CLASS! His textbook was online and free as well. Definitely a great class to take.
I took this professor of fall 2023 and he accepted late work for reduced grade!
I took this class of spring 2023 and it was an amazing class! I took as hydrid! All the assignments are very interesting! Tests and quizzes no midterm and final! He the best!
I took this class of spring 2023! There will be lots of assignments and activities to complete! I took as a hybrid class!
Fast communication and grading. Easy to follow curriculum.
I am taking him for another course if he have it online.
a great and passionate teacher. He has great lectures that you have to listen to in order to do some of his assignments. He does have a lot of assignments but nothing crazy hard, just read, listen to lectures and you will do well. I took a week to focus on just his class and ended up finishing the whole class.
This is probably my best professor Ive ever had, and im not a fan of history. You can tell my his lectures he really is a great teacher, and genuinely wants you to understand and learn. Homework is listening to about 2 hour lectures, answering a couple questions, with about 2 weeks to do it. Overall 10/10
He is a very passionate teacher! a good amount of assignments but nothing too hard and gives you 2-3 weeks to complete each section! put in the work and you'll get an A! I love how you can tell how much he loves teaching history!
He is awesome. I took online class, he gave 2 audio lectures every few weeks and assigned a few questions that you answered from the lectures, with a few videos. The lectures were about 40 minutes in length but I listened intently and learned quite a bit. He is very passionate about history and it made me appreciate the course more. Highly enjoyed
10/10 History teacher. Very passionate about his job.
Professor Deitrich is one of the best professors I've had. The class was great and everything he taught was interesting, partly because of his lectures. They were recorded like podcasts which made them easy to listen to. Each unit had 2 Source Evals, 2 Lectures, and 2 quick tests. You do need to read from a textbook, but he provides it for free.
It's a reasonably simple course. You must read the assigned material, attend the lectures, and provide feedback to receive an A. The professor is excellent! You have around a month or three weeks to complete the assignments, but there are typically six or seven due then, so it's better not to procrastinate.
The most stress-free class I've taken. Gives you 3 weeks to finish each mod which consists of 2 source evals, 2 audio lectures, and 2 quizzes. Don't make the same mistake I did and procrastinate because it was very easy to. The lectures were entertaining and gave genuine feedback. Would take again 100%
I took this class of spring 2023. It was a hybrid class! The assignments was fun. Quizzes was easy. One test. One extra credit assignment.
His lectures are amazing and informative! This class was awesome and I highly recommend it!
Great Professor.
The professor makes this hybrid class engaging with entertaining lectures and reasonable assignments. Using unstuckstudy along with the free course materials helped me breeze through this stress-free but insightful class.
Professor Deitrich is super cool and laid back. I had him last semester. (Fall 2024) Just make sure to attend lectures and take notes. I usually always wrote down a few notes on my computer and did the homework. Easy A. :)
Probably my favorite professor to-date. Easy to listen to lectures, funny, informative, all you could really want. Some of these other reviews talk about how there is a political ideology pushed, but I think that is just looking for a reason to hate someone who is great. Huge inspiration for me, loved every class, hope he continues to do well! :D
So incredibly laid back and clearly passionate. He uses recorded lectures and I swear to god it's like listening to a historical video essay on YouTube in the background. He's witty, poignant, and obviously loves his job. His class was one of my favourites during my spring semester last year, I wish I could take it again.
Absolutely amazing prof. His lectures were hilarious and actually very insightful. Gave us lots of time to finish assignments and provided really great feedback that let you know he actually cared about his class and the work you put in. If you can take him for any class TAKE HIM. He's the best!!!!!
Professor was amazing, the best I've had in my college journey. He cares about his students and makes sure that his students understand the material. Very passionate and you can hear it in his lectures. His lectures were easy as long as you pay attention and answer the questions. His quizzes were easy as long as you read the source material.
I took his 4 week online HIST217 course. Overall, amazing class if you don't mind writing. His lectures are amazing, and he shows genuine appreciation and passion for Nevada's history. Each week the class consists of 4 reading responses (200-500 words each) and a unit exam. The final exam was a museum paper. Generous grader and great feedback!
My history teacher is the best I've ever had. His lectures are long, but you actually learn a lot from them. Every week we had a lecture assignment, a source evaluation, and a quiz based on the textbook. The class was clear, organized, and straightforward. As long as you did the work, you passed. Overall, he's a 10/10 teacher.
I loved Professor Deitrich. He made me love history and want to show up to lectures. He is passionate, funny, and brings high energy every class. The assignments are all on canvas, and they are pretty easy and insightful. He is a great guy overall and one of my favorite professors I have taken at CSN.
As a BIO major, taking Prof. D was one of the best options to complete my history req. Super super kind, very passionate. Assignments are super easy, though the online "lecture assignments" can be quite lengthy bc of the audio recordings, this class is one of the easiest classes I've taken. If you need to take a history class please choose him.
Most kind and helpful Professor I've had. You can tell that he loves his job and what he teaches. He provided the textbook, as well as lectures. The lectures were very easy to get through, as he made jokes and analogies to help you remember. Good feedback was left on each assignment. I really enjoyed taking history with this professor!
This class was so easy and the teacher accepts late work. We had quizzes but no tests and the quizzes weren't proctored. I only got a D because I slacked off and missed the deadline. He's very understanding and easy going though, helped me a lot.
My favorite professor I've ever had! If you need HIST100, take his class! He is so funny and it's very obvious he cares about his students and loves his job. I looked forward to his class every week! It's a shame that most of the students in my class were either absent or showed no interest in what we were doing. I feel lucky to have had Deitrich!
