He makes things harder than they need to be. Study a decent amount, and you'll be fine. But his notes on the board aren't very good!
Nice guy, but can't teach. His tests aren't bad and he gives a little extra credit. Is not helpful at all with his lectures or his office hours. If you take this class you better know how to teach yourself.
he is a very good teacher. you have to remember everything that he taught you thoughout the year so always read up on notes and if you need help on the test just go up and ask he will say yes if you are doing it right or wrong. is funny and learned a lot in his class.
challenging tests, know your trig for this guy. Very helpful and nice if you just ask for help.
Do the homework as it really helps and try not to miss the class unless you absolutely have to. He's very helpful even when it comes to tests and quizzes and will lead you in the right direction. The final is way hard though and covers some stuff we never even went over!
I was afraid to ask him questions cause he would put you down in front of the entire class!
Good teacher..will help you whenever you ask..even during a test...sometimes throws curveballs on the tests..but isnt too bad..do homework and the class shouldnt be to bad...he is a funny guy and sometimes talks about other stuff then math which makes the class more bearable..I recommend him for any math class
Hahaha, you guys didn't even spell his name right; it's Nazemian. Anyways, I thought he was a great teacher. He explained the material well, and even though he didn't always show it, he had a great sense of humor. He also had some interesting political views, haha. I totally recommend him.
Great teacher! funny guy even though he doesn't try to be. Very helpful even during test and quizes, take him if you get the chance.
He was a good teacher. I just wish he was more clear on what we had to learn and that the tests looked a little more like our homework.
Keep all the homework and quizzes. They are extremely helpful on the tests. Try not to miss any classes as well.
Nazemian is incredibly accessible to students. He's also very flexible on things. You will definitely want to go to tutoring for this class because the hw is not usually reflected in the lecture. Tests are pretty killer and are not at all related to his review. If anything, the review will tell you what won't be on the exam.
He is very knowledgeable when it comes to math. sometimes he has a hard time getting out what he wants to say, but the majority of the time he is very good at explaining things fully and answering questions. makes the class fun (he'll stop in the middle of a problem to tell a joke, it's funny). good professor, i'd recommend him.
He enjoys teaching the subject and he is a super nice math teacher. You can ask for help on tests and he would help you. Homework sometimes could get challenging, but tutoring usually helps. His tests are multiple choice, but it can be challenging sometimes. If you pay attention in class, tests and homework should be no problem.
prof. nazemian is a great teacher, but calculus is just a hard subject in general. he tries to help you when you ask for it but the homework can be irritating sometimes. his t.a. is extremely helpful as well. prof. nazemian is very nice when it comes to grading. i was expecting a 'b-' in the class but i ended up with an 'a'
Keeps class interesting, all the examples he does on the board are directly from the book. HW can be a real challenge and time consuming. The examples in class are nothing like the HW, good news the tests were easier...multiple choice due to larger class.
Stick with it! Put the time in studying and go to class. Pay attention to homework, test questions come directly from your assignments.
Take this professor during summer if possible. The homework assignments are rather stupid I suggest using "Practice Another Problem" and then looking at the textbook problems. The quizzes can be really hard too. He does his job pretty well, and is a pretty good teacher though.
He had good examples, but his tests were kind of ridiculous especially for a 120 class that most people can't get out of taking. No multiple choice. The curriculum bounces around so much you have to go to class everyday to keep up. He's helpful if you ask for it, but his grading is hard. He grades daily homework.
Completely useless lectures and gives a ridiculously low amount of attempts on homework ( 2 attempts on my last assignment). The only time I ever learned what I needed was in my TA class. He gives at least 3-4 assignments a week.
He typed up all of his lessons for the semester already, so he just shows you pages that are more frustrating than a bad text book that he wrote. He flys through the pages and steps of examples, while you're trying to take notes, and he's talking even faster than you can possibly write, especially with examples. AVOID THIS TEACHER.
Awesome teacher, really good guy who wants to help you as much as he can. One of the best calc teachers at UNR.
If you haven't taken calculus before, this will be a hard class because he moves very quickly. Definitely review your trig. for this class, too. He's a nice guy, but he's not very good at explaining in class or in office hours.
Great professor! Hard class because of the volume of people (nearly 300!). But, easy to talk to and very helpful if you have any questions. Very understanding with grades, too. Tests are reasonable, but homework was a bit time consuming. Overall, great!
Charlie is a really great guy. lots of good stories. But I felt like there were so many surprises on his exams. Problems that weren't seen in the homework, quizes, or book. My Quiz score was 98% homeowrk 95% Tests 80% Study Hard
Best calculus professor at UNR. Explains material very well (which I needed, since I'm terrible at Math). It sucks, but make sure to do the hw because his tests were based off of that. Doesn't drop any exams. Overall, I'd reccommend, esp compared to the other calc prof's.
Homework and quizzes were great and made complete sense, but the tests and the final were extremely hard and were nothing like anything else in the class.
I abhor math but Professor Nazemian made me want to go to class. He cares about his students, helped me with whatever I needed. he's funny, doesn't make the class monotonous at all. Actually makes you learn. LOVED his class, Highly recommend.
Professor Nazemian I found out later as the semester went on generally cares about his students doing well. I did really bad the first exam but after going to all of the study sessions I did better on each test and even though I was a couple percentage points short of an A- he saw my progress and bumped my grade up. Go to class and you'll be fine.
He is fair. He doesn't use scantrons so that he can go through your work and give you points where they are earned. I found myself doing a lot of homework, but it was easy. STUDY FOR THE FINAL! I hate myself for not doing that b/c it ruined my grade. Overall, I liked the way the class was set up.
He rambles a lot and sometimes I don't think he knows what he's talking about. Hard to approach bcuz he doesn't speak great english. HOWEVER, his tests are fairly easy, especially if you go to the SI sessions. If you don't do the HW you won't pass and if you need help go to the tutoring center or work with your resesitation person. Don't take Lakey
I found his class to be very entertaining. He makes math enjoyable and is easy to understand. Definitely go to the SI review sessions before the test!!! Those were extremely helpful!!!
I hate this class so much! His lectures don't match the homework, the homework doesn't match the test and the test doesn't match the lectures. He uses scantrons so hard to get credit for just doing the work. This class was MISERABLE!! I hated having to go. SI sessions don't help I actually did worse on my test when I went to the Review. Don't take!
Easily the worst professor I've ever had. Spends the lecture time doing proofs instead of examples. Even easy stuff on the homework seemed hard. Went to his office hours for help on the homework and HIS solutions were wrong. If your struggling he just tells you to drop the class. Funny thing is I got an A in Calc 2 & 3.
this professor is terrible! His lectures do not help me on the homework, in fact it frustrates me more. I learn more from 2 minute videos online about the problem then i do in his 1.5 hour lecture classes. His lessons explain basic problems then he throws curve balls at the end and has a student teach the hard problems.
DO NOT TAKE!!!! He is not helpful at all. I just had him for Business Calculus and the only helpful person was my recitation teacher. The study guides barely have anything to do with the test. Some of his questions are trick questions. Just avoid at all possible costs.
Honestly learned more from the recitations/TA than the actual lectures or from the examples from the online homework. His lectures are funny (both on and off-topic), but it can feel pretty long on some days. Exams were decent and you can usually earn points if you attend SI sessions.
His class is not horrible. He's a very good teacher. Offered a lot of help and extra credit opportunities, which you would know if you showed up to class. Yeah his lectures are boring, but it's math. His accent is not bad, he just speaks low. Don't buy the book, it's useless. His TA's accent is strong, but he's helpful too.
Fall 2011, Kind person who knows his work. If you miss homework talk with him, he's willing to listen & reopen. Sometimes a little vague, if I hadn't seen certain parts before in high school I'd have a lil trouble understanding. Gives chances for extra credit, stays after for help. Has lots of office hrs. TA grades strictly. Tests from study guide.
Charles wants to be your friend. He's a good guy but the math was actually hard because he didn't teach it very well. Definitely the best way to do well would be to take all of his notes, do and actually understand all of his homework questions, and of course use his office hours if you need! He always responded quickly when i emailed him with Q's.
BRO! This guy is flippin' amazing! He sometimes takes 30 minutes in every lecture to tell a story similar to what he just did in class. You could just sit back and enjoy this easy A, because it's like watching a movie. If you take his class, I want you close your eyes and just imagine Christopher Walkin (cowbell) teaching you. They sound the same!
He was a pretty good teacher for 126R. He's very approachable compared to the teacher I have now. He really keeps the class interesting and is pretty clear on everything. I never took precal before and I understood everything.
Starts with easy examples then jumps into super hard ones that he has a student end up teaching. Sometimes hard to understand but is helpful and does care about his students. Quizzes are easy, but tests are pretty difficult, he uses a scantron (except for a few hand written problems) so its hard to get partial credit.
Easy but boring. I already knew how to do everything. Going to class was pointless but the discussions really helped. Tests were different than material covered though.
I didnt like going to this class because it was a math class, but he tells stories and jokes to engage the class and he has students teach examples so that they can learn them better. If you are failing or doing bad in the class, just by making the effort to go to his office hours and still not doing well, he will find extra points to give you.
Mr. Nazemian really shows his love for teaching when he stands up in front of his students. He cares about their grades and will do anything to help you if you aren't doing well in the class. Math sucks in general so of course it wasn't easy or fun but he made it just interesting enough to where I would go to class. He speaks English very well.
Awesome, awesome teacher. Always friendly and somehow managed to teach the material understandably in a classroom of over 300. Went to his office hours and he was very easy to talk to. He also taught the material well, it was fairly difficult but definitely helped me in further classes. I would highly recommend him, and I'm a math major.
Awesome professor. Always friendly and managed to explain the subject understandably in a class of over 300. When I went into his office hours he was easy to talk to and helpful, and he made the class interesting and did not water it down- it was difficult, but completely prepared me for my later classes. Very good professor, and I'm a math major.
Super awesome teacher. Missed a few classes but still managed to get a decent grade. Study guides match the test. Gives extra credit after every exam. Really cares about his students and tries to help them to pass even if math is your worst subject. TAKE HIM!!
He's simply delightful. Even if this isn't your strongest subject, he presents enough extra credit opportunities that it is more than possible to achieve an A in the course. He also drops your 5 lowest homework scores and 3 lowest quiz scores and is more than helpful during office hours. The kid even has witty wisdom up his sleeve during class.
Afraid of calculus? I was too, until I met Charlie. He's the most helpful and accessible professor I've ever had. He gives tons of extra credit opportunities even though the exams can be challenging. Take Charlie if you struggle with math. He will make you understand math like never before. You won't regret knowing him.
Gave extra credit for exams but did not explain material clearly. Went through example problems very fast.
Loved this class! He was very helpful and engaging. Plenty of extra credit opportunities. Quizzes aren't bad and he gives you study guides that are extremely helpful !
Professor Nazemian is terrible teacher, avoid him. Teaching style is ineffective, goes through course to fast, doesn't explain anything well, gives about 2 homeworks a class meeting, has 3 tests and 1 final. study guides hardly cover exa He is useless in his office hours. You will need to go to the math center a lot. Study guides hardly cover exams
He is hard to understand and is not very clear in lecture. I do not recommend him at all. Expect to need lots of extra help outside of class if you have him as a teacher. You'll need it.
Great professor! As long as you attend class, take notes and do the study guides an A is guaranteed. Helpful in office hours too if needed. Great guy who made math enjoyable.
Charlie was by far one of my best teachers. He is very helpful if you have any questions. Just show up to class, take notes, do the homework, and the extra credit and this class will be a piece of cake. He also has some very inspirational quotes and stories. A great teacher and an even better guy!
One of my favorite teachers I have ever had. Made class enjoyable by telling stories and cracking jokes every once in a while. People complain about him not teaching well are probably the people that did not go to class. Its math, you need to go to every class or you'll fall behind. He was a great professor and I highly recommend
Charlie is a great teacher! He explains the lesson very well. Doing the study guides in his class and homework help a lot. It is also good to have prior knowledge to understand what is going on.
Dr. Nazemian is a really great teacher and cares about students. He offers a lot of extra credit by attending class and teaches mainly by examples. He also sometimes does mini life lessons, but it is all in good spirit. He is very helpful and tries to apply math to real life.
He is a great teacher whose main focus is getting students to pass. He will explain and re go over anything if you ask him to. Really great guy in general and I'm happy I took his class
Great professor! Attend every class, go to all SI sessions, do every study guide well in advance, and go to math center when doing homework, and you're bound to get a pass.
He is a nice teacher, and offers a lot of in class extra credit and extra credit for doing study guides. His class is a challenge for me, but I have an A due to the extra credit. He also gives life lessons in class which is fun to listen to and makes a few jokes now and then. He's one of my favorite math teachers ever.
Very nice guy, absolutely terrible teacher. He rambles in mathematic terms no one can understand. Learned nothing from lecture and taught myself when I got home. If math is something you need help with, take someone else.
I took this class online and the program is terrible. You will get the answer correct and it will still mark it incorrect. Had to have 4 proctored tests which the study guides did not help at all and he only gave extra credit once.
He is very rude and unclear during lectures. If you want to pass the class go to the SI sessions (you'll also get extra credit for them). He also offers extra credit for completing the study guides but they're 40-50 problems each and you'll sometimes only get 5 points for them, but the exams are just like the study guides.
Charlie is a fantastic professor. If you don't understand anything he or his TA will sit down with you until you do. Class does require a good amount of work if you want to pass with a higher grade but the extra credit on every test is definitely a bonus.
Great teacher, he was funny and nice, he is the story telling type. He offers a lot of extra credit but the homework is mandatory and on mastering which was not fun. He is very nice in his office hours and is willing to help all the time. If you are willing to put in the effort he will help you all the way.
Online class was very disorganized. Things not stated in the syllabus, basically had to dig to find anything.
Very willing to help and offers a lot of extra credit. Sometimes lectures were hard to follow but overall a good teacher.
Charlie is a great teacher, all it takes is effort. He is always willing to help and gave plenty of opportunities for extra credit. SI sessions are extremely helpful too! The class was very fast paced, but if you keep up and make an effort to learn what you are struggling with, you'll be fine.
This course does require a lot of time to self teach, but the professor responded immediately to emails & helped me with problems I didn't understand. He even talked to me over the phone with help on the study guides, which are very helpful. I received A's & B's with his great study guides. I recommend him, if you are willing to put in the work.
This class requires a lot of time and self understanding, but if you are willing to put in the time and not be lazy you will enjoy the final result. 4 tests, 1 quiz & discussion a week, & 3-5 H.W. a week. Great study guides & extra credit on all tests. He will respond immediately to emails and even call you for better understanding. Great teacher!!
He was a great professor that would respond to emails within minutes even at late hours. His tests and quizzes were very straight foreword with no curveballs or difficult questions. If you put in the time, you will get a good grade!
This class was great! It was very straight forward with what was expected. Doing all the assignments is a must they really help. The online quizzes can be a little tricky but you get multiple chances to answer question. The professor is there to help when needed. I really enjoyed this class!!
Charlie is an amazing teacher, and a super sweet guy! He really wants his students to understand and you can definitely see that he is knowledgeable. I would take him again every semester if I could!
Charlie is a nice guy but his tests are monsters. There are usually only 8 multiple choice questions and one short answer, so if you miss one question your test grade goes down almost 10%. There are quizzes every Thursday and he'll drop the lowest 3, and it's the same for homework. He's a good teacher but he's not the easiest.
Calc is a hard subject, but Charlie really is a good teacher. He moves really fast through the notes so you may need to go to the math center to catch up. Only 3 exams, weekly tests in discussion, and weekly homework assignments.
Charlie is a great professor and is helpful when you ask him. His lectures are fun as he relates them to stories to his life and he really enjoys joking around during lecture. The exams are semi difficult however he offers a few extra credit opportunities to get points towards your exam and he replaces your worst one with the final exam's grade.
Charlie is a good guy and a fairly decent teacher. I had him for Business Calc, Math 176. For the most part if you go to class and do all of the work you should do well in his class. He offered a ton of extra credit opportunities and was very fair in terms of assignments. That being said Calc is Calc so be prepared to work your butt off.
Professor Nazemian is a PHENOMENAL teacher. He know's his stuff and is always willing to help students when they need it. He's very generous with office hours. If you do the work, you'll get the grade you want. I HIGHLY recommend Nazemian's class. And if you've taken AP calculus in high school, and need to take it again, Charlie's class'll be easy.
Professor Nazemian is a great teacher! Calculus can be hard to grasp at first, but he gives you every opportunity to succeed (which doesn't mean you don't have to work hard, though). There is plenty of extra credit opportunities to make up for a bad score on an exam. His lectures are easy to listen to and he tries to keep them light. Recommended.
This is the best math teacher i have ever had, i went into previous classes earning a low C, however this professor does a great job of helping you understanding the material and getting you a good grade while participating. STRONGLY RECOMMEND THIS PROFESSOR
Overall, if you attend class regularly then you won't have a difficult time comprehending the material. The only problem is that the tests look nothing like the homework. This usually results in a drastic bell curve with MANY failing grades and a decent quantity of A's and B's. Fortunately, there are boundless opportunities for extra credit
Professor Nazemian is one of the best professors I have had at Nevada. He goes over the material well in class, and the discussion leaders are helpful too. What I really liked about him was how he was there for his students even though there were over 400 of us. The tests were fair if you studied the study guide a couple of times. Definitely take!
Calculus is hard, but Nazemian always offered time to help and generous extra credit. If you show effort, he'll reward you. Would be pretty difficult to pass the course without going to class, including discussion, since quizzes are given during discussion. Nazemian also shared inspirational stories and was pretty funny. Overall good class.
Charlie was a great professor. I have always loved math and am sad to say this was my last math class. Only downside to this class was I found myself in the math center a lot making sure I got 100% on homework and quizzes. Just go to the math center you will pass for sure!
I thoroughly enjoyed this course, and it was a real challenge. Charlie knows everything there is about calculus and I really appreciated the mastery he possessed. Going to class is very beneficial and in my opinion necessary to pass. Highly recommend him if you're willing to work hard.
I had math 176 with Charlie. He was always willing to work with you to make sure you understand the material. He explains things well so it's easy to understand. There's so much extra credit available for you that it's impossible not to get an A in the class. I would take this class with him again, and I would highly recommend him as a professor.
Probably the best professor you will ever have, he truly cares about his students & wants the best for everyone. He is humorous and very passionate about what he does. He is one of the best Professors on campus, hands down. Always on time, compassionate, and helpful anytime you need it, even outside office hours. Do the work, easy A. He is great!
Charlie is extremely helpful both inside and outside of class. He's very thorough when it come to explaining lessons, and is more than willing to help students outside of class. The classes he teaches are difficult in themselves, but Charlie does an excellent job at making his lessons as easy to understand as possible.
Charlie is a good professor if you need help go to him early before it's to late. This class is very passable and it takes a lot of work but you can get a B if you easily just go to him for help when you need it.
The extra credit saved my grade in this class. The material was difficult towards the end of the semester. The class was really big and I don't learn well in that kind of environment.
Professor Nazemian is the best math professor at Nevada. His lectures are clear and easy to understand. His tests are easy if you study well. He's always willing to help. Go to him if you have any questions, and he'll really help you out. Take him over the other profs offered for the course. Trust me, you'll be glad you did. He's awesome
If you put in the work and effort, Charlie is an amazing professor. His lectures consists of example after example but they are explained in a way that you can understand the methods being used. Expect homework, weekly quizzes at recitation, and four tests.
Charlie is the best.
I took his 181 class and really enjoyed it so I took his 182 class. It's just an all around more difficult class compared to Calc 1, but he's still a very good professor and he explains the difficult material in the clearest way possible. Going to the discussion helped a lot.
I took his online class and he was extremely helpful. He helped me get back on track after I fell behind due to a loss in the family. He was always willing to help his students. Seems genuinely interested in making sure his students succeed . If I can take classes with him in the future I definitely will!!
He does a great job at keeping the lecture moving and he is very passionate about teaching calculus.
He rushes through the material and his tests are much harder than the homework and study guides. However, he drops your 3 lowest quiz and homework grades for a grade boost. Also he gets off topic a lot and the lectures are very tedious.
Charlie was an awful professor, class was extremely difficult as getting tested into it skipping 126, always done well in math. Homework and quizzes follow the notes , prep for a 60 Question study guide and 8 Q tests w/ the most difficult Q's possible. Lectures interrupted by 20 min stories, EXTREMELY fast through notes, and non approachable & rude
Professor Nazemian is a very clear math teacher and is probably the best math teacher I have ever had. The class is tough but his teaching skills make it easier. Three homework assignments are due each Tuesday online and these each take about 10 min. Cant skip a lot of classes. Would definitely recommend this teacher for anyone taking math.
Tests are usually around 10 questions, with 2 free response that are worth about 50% of the points. If you miss 1 of the free response and get everything else right you still get around a C or D on the test. Ridiculous. I've never missed a lecture and do good on all my homework and quizzes and still am going to end up with a C. Not recommended.
Has a thick accent that makes it hard to understand sometimes but is a funny guy who cares. However, if you need help, you have to really look hard for it
Charlie is a great professor. I, however, loathe calculus. If it weren't for his extra credit and fairly easy tests, I would have failed. Since this is math, study well in advance. If you are good at calculus, consider this a guaranteed A. If you are not good like me, there is hope with this professor you will pass with a C or better.
Charlie was great! practice tests were exactly the same as the tests, and he made the materiel really easy to understand. The weekly quizzes in discussion make the materiel easier to understand because you need to know it. I heard he was much better than some of my friends who had other professors.
Charlie was a great professor. He didn't take himself too seriously and explained things thoroughly. He gives a lot of assignments and drops a ton of assignments, so, if you don't completely slack off, you should pass easily. Warning, do the study guides and study for the tests or your grade will suffer .Tests had about 6 mc and 2 free response
Great teacher overall. While calculus is never easy it is almost impossible to fail his class unless you just don't show up or do any of the homework. He really tries to make sure you understand the material and gives out so much extra credit as long as you go to class.
Lectures were rushed. It was an extremely fast paced class so you have to work and try to understand the material outside of class.
Chillest teacher ever. 100% recommend. If math is not your thing, its obviously going to be a difficult class, but he is always there to help. He gives study guides that reflect the test. Basically, if you understand his lectures, his class will be easy. His extra credit is solving a word problem for 10 points (challenging but not impossible).
You have lectures twice a week and then discussion twice a week as well. He's a really good professor, helps you understand the material well. If you don't understand at first, I always understood after discussion. Tests are a huge part of your grade though so study up for those! Other than that a good professor and I highly recommend.
Good lectures, decent amount of homework. But, extremely tough exams with study guide that was not always relevant to the actual test. 50% of your grade will be based on 3 midterms, another 20% is based on your final exam score. No cheat sheets or calculators allowed during the tests.
The lectures were impossible to keep up with, the tests were very hard and the study guides given are not relevant to the tests at all. He is "always there to help," but when I tried to get help he was not very helpful. I failed this class, and studied very hard. I would not recommend taking this course if unless you're extremely good at math.
The semester started out relatively decent but as material amped up so did the professors attitude. I once made the mistake of asking him for help and he told me and I quote, "C'mon this is Calc II what are you thinking". He then scoffed and walked away. I would not suggest taking this professor.
He's by far the best math teacher I've ever had. He's down to earth (he lets you call him by his first name) and actually cares about his students and wants you to learn and succeed. His TA, Michael, was phenomenal! Made my life so much easier. There are a few better profs at UNR but you can't go wrong with Charlie.
AMAZING Professor! Highly recommend!! I actually understand pre-calculus now and he is super helpful, doesn't make you feel stupid when asking questions.
Charlie is very nice and wants everyone to pass. The class consists of 3 exams, weekly quizzes, homework, and a final. He gives study guides for each exam, and the exams are usually a few multiple choice and short answer questions. The class is somewhat mandatory because he doesn't post his lecture notes online or give them to you if you're absent.
Charlie is a very good professor and undoubtedly knows what he's doing. He cares about your success in the class, but that does not mean he takes it easy. His exams are difficult and will test you, though he (or the TA) is always willing to meet with you and go over material. Lecture wasn't required, but your success in the class will depend on it.
He was very helpful in getting me to understand all of the concepts. The tests are 7-12 problems for the hour exams and if you bomb one of them, but do well on the final, he will replace that bad score with your final exam score. I was able to get an A- because of it. I would definitely take him again if he was teaching Calculus 3.
The class is obviously difficult, but the lectures are extremely organized and include all the information you could need to prepare for the exams. The discussion sections are separate, but equally important. That's where you'll get a lot of the example questions and ask clarifying questions if needed.
such a daddy would recommend. when he wears denim on denim the class goes weak. overall study the study guides and show up to class and you'll do well.
Lectures are very heavy with a lot of written theorems and few examples. His exams are hard and few with less than 10 questions max. He is a tough grader and will nickel and dime your grade.
His test are simple and easy for Calc 2. I would definitely recommend. He also teaches concepts he think are important. For example, there was a section where it dealt about work. I thought this concept was hard. But lucky for me he did not include it in the final or exam.
Concepts>Memorization. He is meticulous on what he teaches and how he teaches is helpful and beneficial for students wanting to get credit. His lectures are chill and not taxing on students. It is not mandatory per se but most students would go to class because he is good and effective professor. Highly recommend.
Charlie is an awesome guy and great teacher. Very clear when explaining things and he makes lectures fun. Calc 2 is very difficult but if you go in to his office hours hell set you straight when youre confused. Lectures are fast paced but he has a good system for how he produces the notes
Charlie is an exceptional lecturer who takes the time to make sure all concepts are understood within his courses. Calculus 2 was easier than I expected due to his ability to explain all of the examples done with class and the proofs behind them. Very caring and has many office hours if necessary. Would highly recommend taking his courses.
Charlie is a phenomenal math professor. I have always struggled in math but he makes things much easier. He is extremely clear during lectures, so caring, and very helpful. He does not administer a C- ever and generally administers a grade scale curve at the end of semester. Take this class. You will learn a lot and he is so caring and clear.
I could not have asked for a better Calc 2 professor. His lectures are very in-depth with derivation of concepts and many examples that help with preparation for homework and exams. He makes it very easy for students to get an A in the class, all that is needed is some effort to practice the material through discussion classes and homework.
Dr. Nazemian is my favorite math professor at the university. His lectures are very smooth and his explanations are very good. Calculus 2 is a very diverse math class, covering many different topics in calculus. Make sure your integration techniques from Calc 1 are excellent before you attempt this class.
He is a great professor. I am planning to enroll in his class again for 182 sophomore year. In this class it is very challenging to get an A. You must go to every lecture, because they are vital. You will be golden in this class if you attend every lecture, and give them your undivided attention. The professor sincerely gives great lectures.
Hes fair. Dont expect an easy time. This is a hard class. Offers extra credit problems in class that will be added to your test score. Tests are reasonable given the amount of time allotted. Quizzes in recitation once a week. Focused more on the theory, not many examples in his notes so if hes good for you depends on the type of learner you are.
Nazemians class was really difficult for me at first but I just had to get used to his teaching style. Hes one of the best professors Ive had because he also goes over the conceptual aspect of each section. Hes a really chill guy and hes gives a good amount of extra credit. Definitely take him if you can.
Nazemian genuinely wants to help his students which makes him very approachable, and he is super helpful during office hours. He goes through some examples and also some theory behind calculus which helps quite a bit for the homework. His tests are very fair, and it is not impossible to get an A. I definitely recommend taking him for 181.
One of the best professors I have had. Super great lectures, thoroughly explains all concepts. He starts each class with motivational quotes. He is a professor that cares for his students well-being and success. I really enjoyed this class with him as a professor!
Charlie is an outstanding professor. He is great about thoroughly describing the concepts behind each section and providing helpful examples. All tests and quizzes are very fair and easy if you attend lecture classes, and there are many opportunites for extra credit during lecture as well. I would highly recommend taking his class.
Charlie is a very good lecturer. He cares about his students and is a very reasonable guy. Do the online homework, take notes in class, study for the tests and you'll be fine. I highly recommend this class.
Charlie dedicates himself to his work and students. His lectures/notes are very thorough, though he is very willing to expand on certain topics if you need help with them. The class itself is fairly straightforward; I think as long as you study for tests, do the homework, and attend the lectures, you should get an A.
Charlie is a nice person who is approachable outside of class. The issue is, his examples in class, the homework, quizzes, and study guides are all very easy. When the tests come around, the questions are very hard and types of problems that we have never seen before. The material we study is pointless because its nothing like the tests.
Charlie is a nice person, however, when it comes to teaching he is just not the best at explaining. The examples given in class are super easy as well as the homework, but when it comes to the test, the material is very complex and is barely touched on in class. The study guide has 35 questions, the test has 6-8 which dont relate to the study guide
The study guides don't help at all. He gives easy examples and easy homework, then the test comes and it looks like you've never seen the problems before, because he doesn't cover super complex material. He only touches the surface on all the examples, therefore it seems like throws a curveball at you for every single test. He gives extra credit.
Took this class last semester and basically forgot to rate him. Took Calc 2 in HS and passed but it was difficult to understand so I wanted to take it again. With Charlie, super easy. Although my first exam was so bad, it was mostly because of mistakes. After that, I learned how he asks questions on exams. Great professor, highly recommend.
The best! Really cares about his students! Makes it clear that this is a difficult class but gives a LOT of chances to improve ( replace final score w a low test score, in-class EC quizzes, drops worst 4-5 HW assignments and discussion class quizzes). Going to lecture is crucial. Attend lectures and do HW and youll be fine.
Charlie was BY FAR the best professor I've had at UNR. He genuinely cares about his students' success and helps your grade as long as you are putting in the effort yourself. He drops homework, quizzes, gives EC opportunities in class, and replaces your worst exam with your final test score. He taught me way more than just math too (life lessons).
Pro: He responds quickly to emails. Cons: His explanations are terrible. His responses are not always to the questions you ask. Pearson sucks! IF you have someone to help explain the concepts you don't remember and the few new ideas, you should pass. If not, good luck, you'll need it! He says upfront that 75% flunk his class, incl. 58% of retakers.
Probably the best math professor at UNR.
One of the most inspirational profs at UNR. Tests are heavy and course is difficult to understand at first, but Charlie is very easy to follow in lectures (e.g. he will notate a function with f(x) instead of writing out the whole thing). Definitely a good choice if your taking MATH182. You wont regret it.
Nazemian is a great professor and covers a lot of material. There are weekly quizzes but if you go to class, you should be fine. He drops the lowest 3 quizzes and online homework scores and replaces your lowest exam score with your final exam score. He also gives extra credit problems in class so show up. Use notes to study, not just study guides.
A really goof professor. Exams are tough but he drops 1. He adjusts grading scale at the end of the class to benefit students. Lectures go fast but definely go to office hours if you don't understand something. Pretty inspirational guy. Your grade pretty much reflects the effort you put into it.
The 3 exams were tough he drops one exam though with you r final if u improved. He moved way too fast during the lectures, its hard to understand. Definitely go to tutoring for the series unit. The quizzes are weekly n aren't too bad as Long as your TA goes over the material b4. His handwriting is hard to read n he doesn't post the notes. Awful!
Charlie is so sweet and really cares about his students. Makes you work for the A, don't expect one if you don't show up to lectures and do all the homework. Calc 2 is hard, but Charlie gives you all the resources to succeed. He is helpful during office hours and responds to emails quickly.
Calc 2 is hard but Charlie makes it easy. Lectures are good but he doesn't post the notes or anything so go to class. There are weekly quizzes but he drops the lowest 3 and final replaces the lowest test score. Sometimes he has extra credit "quizzes" in class. He really does a lot to make sure you understand the material and get a good grade
Lectures a very confusing and fast. He over complicates it and it makes it really challenging. I luckily had an amazing TA who explained concepts easily. Tests are hard but somewhat manageable, some questions are taken off study guide (structure-wise). Horrible teacher, tests/quizzes are hard. Definitely do the study guides prior to test.
It is clear that Charlie cares about his students. He gives extra credit and learns that names of his many students. He also drops many grades at the end of the semester. However, he has very confusing ways of explaining new concepts and I think that it makes it harder for all of the people in the class. If you're lucky, you'll get a TA who is good
Charlie is by far one of the best math prof that I have taken. Attendance isn't mandatory, but you'll benefit greatly by attending class since the lectures aren't online and he gives out extra credit. He really cares about his students understanding the material, so don't be afraid to reach out.
Charlie was a wonderful professor. He genuinely wanted to teach his students and were available to assist them when asked. He does write notes pretty quick during class but allows you to take pictures at the end of class. Go to office hours if something doesn't make sense, he will help you. He is a very kind individual. Do the homework.
Best math professor at UNR. 100% would recommend. He replaces your lowest test grade with your final score (if it's higher than your lowest test grade) and offers in class extra credit opportunities. He's super helpful in office hours and cares about his students. Take his class if you need to take calc! you will pass
I could not have asked for a better professor. Charlie truly cares about his students and will answer any questions you have. Since this class was completely over zoom, Charlie posted all his lectures at the beginning of the semester and had lectures over zoom as well to go over problems live. Would definitely recommend to anyone for calc 1 & 2.
Charlie is known to be your best option for calc 2, but his paranoia about online classes ruins this course. You are expected to watch 4+ hours of prerecorded lecture per week in addition to attending lecture and recitation. Tests were proctored on zoom and it was a disaster every time. Probably a great prof in person, but do not take him online.
Terrible professor. Incapable of communicating any sort of expectations with his students, what you will be tested on, grading scale, length of tests, etc. Study guides are completely useless and tests are full of trick questions. TAs were great though.
Truly cares about students but very hard tests and its difficult to understand lecture.
Charlie is AWESOME. People will tell you that Calculus 2 is the absolute hardest out of the calculus series -- they're right! Usually I'm an easy A when it comes to math classes, but I sat at a C until the very end of the semester. BUT, Charlie is what made that possible. Make good use of his office hours and review OFTEN! Use the tutoring center!!
Charlie truly cares about his students and wants to see you succeed. He is very willing to help and is super accessible. Lectures can be fast and content heavy, so show up to class. Plus, there's lots of in class extra credit! He can be unclear about what will be on the exams and they are hard, so study hard. Be attentive and ask questions.
Nazemian is easily the best math teacher I've ever had. His lectures are clear and before every topic he goes into the proof and does a description so you get a better understanding of what you are learning. He is very approachable and offers lots of in class extra credit for those who attend class. If you are taking Calc 2, take Nazemian.
Charlie is very old fashioned and VERY hard to keep up with. It's almost like he rushes lectures trying to squeeze in whatever content he can in such little time. He makes himself very available to his students with constant extended office hours and staying after classes. But he's very intimidating and can sometimes make you feel stupid for asking
Honestly calc 2 sucks but he made it as good as it could be. Going to his office hours helped a lot and he really tried to help with the material. He is a good teacher and really cares about his students
Best math teacher I have had at UNR. He can be a little intimidating but he is genuinely a nice and funny guy. He wants to help you learn as much as he can. He is very accessible with lots of office hours that he will extend around test time. Absolutely go to office hours if you need help. If you email him he will give you an extension on homework.
Charlie is great, he explains concepts very, very well and is usually entertaining while he does it. My only complaint is that his tests were pretty hard, so studying was very important. If you just need to pass, bad idea. If you need to understand Calculus, he's your guy.
It's clear Charlie cares about his students but he makes it really hard to understand the material. He teaches difficult concepts way too fast without consideration of how his students feel about it. Test questions are nothing like the study guide so don't rely on it. Homework was all online and a lot easier than the test questions as well.
One of the worst professors I have ever had. I have been to every class and made a great effort to do well. It does not matter, 50% of your grade comes down to exams. These exams have about 7 questions on them and they are far harder than any problems you will have seen. His lectures are rushed and the average grade is low. Do not take.
I had to drop this class because of how hard his exams were, which are nothing like the study guides. Old fashioned professor, lectures are often confusing. Class average was a D, so not ideal. My advice, there are better professors.
Lectures are sometimes confusing but a good TA help you to understand the material better. Somewhat lenient grader but the tests are very difficult.
Make sure to have your basic maths down
Gives out extra credit like candy AS LONG AS you attend class. Exams are concept-centered so no crazy numbers. They don't have that many questions (~7), which can be good or bad depending on your taste. Attendance is not mandatory but it's pretty much necessary to pass the class.
Professor Charlie makes sure that you have the highest chance possible to pass the class. The tests are not that difficult and the lectures are well explained and easy to follow. Quizzes were fairly easy and the TA was amazing at explaining what Charlie presented in the lectures.
Charlie is a fantastic professor. He made what is a very difficult subject for most, bearable and understandable. He gave lots of extra credit, his TA was awesome, and he's actually a really funny and nice man. If you can choose, choose him.
Charlie is the best calc 2 professor you can get at UNR. I took him in fall 2022 and here are a few things to know about his class: attend lecture he teaches the material thoroughly and it is helpful *dont expect a good grade if you dont, his tests are easy and based off the practice test and attend recitation for this class.
Charlie knows his material well, makes relevant lecture videos & responds super quick to emails but the online format of this class makes it very difficult regardless of who teaches it. Full credit on weekly hw is pretty easy but the tests are short so one mistake costs a lot. This is a brutal online class and I would take him in person if possible
He's a nice guy but he goes so fast during lecture when explaining examples that it makes it hard to fully understand the material and to not fall behind. the recitation makes it a bit more better. i didnt like is how the homework had problems that were never discussed in class which makes it more dreadful. quizes take so much from your grade
Professor Charlie can sometimes write fast during the lectures however allows for people to take pictures of the notes anytime. Class is not mandatory but extra credit questions come up once in a while and count towards the exam. He has good times for office hours and will help anyone who asks.
The online format is more difficult because it's more condensed, but the professor is very helpful if you attend his office hours. He replies to emails quickly and thoroughly. His willingness to let me attend his in-person classes on days when I could was also extremely helpful. So, while the course was difficult, the professor made it manageable.
I wouldn't recommend this professor if you struggle with math. His way of explaining concepts is very confusing and overcomplicated. His exams were also much harder than anything covered and looked nothing like the notes or study guide
He makes concepts extremely complicated, homework's and study guides do not really help you. His teaching style is not the best. He can also be rude when asking questions during or after class. TA's are much nicer and helpful as they are actually there during office hours. Honestly, better to take a different calc professor if you can.
Taking Calc II online is TOUGH. With that said, Nazemian does a good job at putting in lecture videos and making the tests / hw / quiz close enough. One exam every ~3-4 weeks, usually quiz, discussion and hw weekly. Practice exam is 3x harder than the webassign exam. You will need to go to the math center / tutoring / office hours at some point.
Hardest math class I have taken. He responds within minutes and drops assignments / lowest exam grade is dropped if final is higher. The prac exams/hw's are HARD, but the exams are proof-based and understanding logic. Proctored exams ever ~3 weeks. He adjusted the grading scale to make 87-89 an A- and 89+ to be an A. GET HELP FOR THIS CLASS!
Charlie's CALC182 can be challenging, but his clear lectures and helpful office hours make it manageable. Attend class, use the free textbook, and try unstuck ai for additional practice - it really helped me prep for the tough exams.
The homework doesn't even kind of match the study guide for the tests. The lectures are very proof-heavy and don't feature many examples.
Charlie is a good professor! He responds very quickly to my e-mails, easily available for office hours, and has clear-cut expectations. If you ever need clarification, send him an e-mail. He is patient amongst other things, just get ready for lots of HW. Calculus 2 is not an easy class, no matter who is teaching it. However, he does a good job!
There aren't many examples and the things he teaches in class are wayyyyyy different on the exams and quizzes. His TA's are super harsh grades, as in the front of every exam it states to "show work to get partial credit" however unless you get the answer correct she gives NO partial credit.
Great professor, lots of extra credit opportunities, easy going guy, makes his exams based on the lectures.
Lecture material, study guide, homework and even quizzes have much different material than the exams. It feels like the exams are designed to make you fail. Lots of trick questions, weird numbers, and things that were barely covered in class. Quizzes every week. His lectures were good and easily understandable though.
Way too many definitions, not enough math. Doesn't post notes, wont send them to you. Discussion was never the same topic as the lecture, very easy to get lost. Implemented quizzes twice a week during discussion. 45Q study guide's for 5-9 Q exam's, but the the questions from the study guides were nothing like the emaxs.
This professor is clear with his lectures and provides examples and extra credit opportunities. There is a mandatory recitation with quizzes for every section, so be sure to attend those too. He is a bit stern and intimidating, making it hard to ask for help, especially during class time. However, if you show up, you can expect to pass.
studied so hard but still did poorly. lectures aren't bad, but it's hard to keep up with note taking and processing new material because of how fast he goes sometimes. my TA was no help because she would show us different methods that were confusing, and study guide/hw were NOTHING like the exams. felt like i was up for failure each time :,(
He is a wonderful professor. After taking AP Calculus I was convinced that I would fail all math. But after taking it with him, I learned to love math again. After taking MATH181 with him, I feel very confident in my ability to do it. He is very supportive and would go above and beyond to make sure his students understand the material.
Dont let the fact that this class is accelerated scare you, it was easier for me to take an online course because I could watch lectures before exams. this is how i aced my exams. never confused because u can always go back unlike in person classes
i always did lecture last minute its easy to get behind if u are taking online. but i did the bare minimum and did ok. its useful to do an accelerated course cos of finals week but i recommend u make a calendar with ur exam dates so they don't fall under the same week and then u have to watch 13 lectures in 1 day lol. (me) . no partial crdt
