he came in the first day of class and said 85% of you will fail

what an assclown
He can't keep my attention for more than about 25 seconds. So boring.
Good teacher....very nice, always willing to help if you see him. Material can be difficult, but he does a good job.
I acutually liked him! I though he was a good prof!
He was decent. Kinda boring...
My final grade after the final was a 69.3% he wouldnt give me the C, so i got a D and am retaking it now
He looks like smiling Bob from the "Enzyte Natural Male Enhancement Commercials." That being said, Accounting is a boring subject to begin and is very elementary. If you can't get above an 80% you should probably just self terminate now.
I agree agree with the previously mentioned assclown statement
God awful! Very boring lectures in which I could only pay attention for about 5 minutes. Went to him for help and he really let me know how dumb I was and told me he really couldn't help me. Got a D in the class and retaking it. Tests are HARD
worst teacher i've had at isu yet, doesn't explain material well, and his tests are near impossible.
He isn't the best teacher (doesn't explain material very well) but if you actually read the book and do the homework you'll easily get a B at least. Accounting isn't exciting so its hard to pay attention, but just copy the HW answers he gives in class and you'll do fine. He is somewhat condescending
I have to say this is one of the worst teachers I have add at ISU. Graded mostly on test, didn't even hand back the test in class to see what you did wrong. I think he loves golf more than teaching! but I do have to say he is excellent at Accounting and banking but not at teaching.
Really bad and so boring
I enjoyed his class. He makes the class interesting. Warning: He is tough but if you give good effort, you will do fine. The subject matter was HARD but what is accounting isn't?
Class is supper hard but the teacher is as helpful as can be. Just go to his office and ask for help. Talks very fast and spits big words at you at 100 mph. hes a HUGE beast, looks like a cage fighter. I hear he is a better teacher than most fot the class
Avoid this guy. Boring lectures make material almost impossible to understand. His final was the hardest I've ever taken.
He's a decent professor. He expects us to act like college students and do work outside of class. Sure the lectures are boring but I haven't met an accounting teacher yet that can make debits and credits exciting. He may seem rude but talk to him by yourself and don't be afraid of him and he's really not that bad
This guy is the worst. Not even half the class passes because this moron blows at teaching. I actually had a chance and got a 69.8% and he wouldnt give me the C and I had to retake it. Stay away from this stroke.
Do not take this class with this teacher. Worst teacher I have ever had anywhere. His tests are ridiculous, I got As on all of the take home quizzes but when test time came, they were SO HARD. Lectures were awful and put everyone to sleep. STAY AWAY!!
Not good! Do not take his classes! Does not help you outside of class, and if you are confused...you might as well forget it. He will not help you. His lectures are boring, and he expects you to know all the basics of accounting in two seconds. I had to retake both acc classes because he is a bad teacher. Actually changed a friend of mines' grade at the end of the semester for no reason!

I REALLY ENJOYED TAKING CHARLIE'S CLASS EVEN THOUGH IT WAS VERY THOUGH. I PUT A GOOD AMOUNT OF WORK INTO THE CLASS AND CAME OUT WITH AN A. HE IS VERY HELPFUL AND KNOWS THE MATERIAL IS CHALLENGING AND THEREFORE WILLING TO HELP.
I read the horror stories below and got really worried before this class even started. Don't worry! It's really not that bad. I have friends in other Accounting classes and their professors are much worse. You are expected to do the reading outside of class and do the homework. If you do those, you'll be fine. You're college students, act like one and do the work and you'll have no problem. He gives easy quizzes for points and offers extra credit - something the other Accounting professors don't do!
TERRIBLE! This man is by far the worst teacher i have ever taken. he sucks at explaining himself, and if you enjoy reading for a minimum of 3 hours A DAY, by all means take the course... all i can say is ive never failed a class before.. until you charlie... thanks pal
This guy is extremely rude, especially when a student asks a question or for help. I don't understand how some people said he was a nice guy- he's not really. The class was a waste of my time.
This teacher really is a good teacher, if you can stay awake through his lecture. The material is boring, so what do you expect, not to mention the guy is monotone to the max. There's about a million things the school can do to make the class easier that the university refuses to do. Basically you're screwed no matter what teacher you pick.
Good Professor. In accounting you ACTUALLY have to do homework. Just like a math class. Don't believe the bad reviews. If you notice they have already given up half way through the semester... tells you what kind of student they were.
He is boring, monotone, and kind of an ass. Dont let him get to know your name, he'll call on you non stop, i survived the class, but probably just cause didnt let him catch on to who i was.
Ok, I know your reading these thinking man he sucks! but really he's not that bad. He gives quizzes that you get to take home and do. And his tests are not that complicated, study the night or so before, redo problems from homework and youll be fine. He also devotes a day to teaching the chapter and a day to do homework, and answering any questions
I think a lot of people give him crap because the class is hard, which isn't his fault. He is really very clear but you have to work for it. Lots of study time, not because he teaches it badly, but because it's hard. He will slow down if the class isn't getting it. The material sucks, not him.
Accounting is hard no matter what teacher you take. But Charlie is a good teacher and will try to work with you in the class. I got high D's low C's and got a high C in the class. If i would have got one B on a test, would have been better. He gives 10 points EC and 50 points in quizes, so not to hard. But still hard class
He is a really good teacher. A little boring but he is really good one on one and in the class room. Very clear and explains everything!
He is probably the best or one of the best accounting teachers here. The class is hard to begin with so it's not going to be easy no matter who you have. He knows what he's doing and if you go in and ask for help he will help you. Make sure you go to ALL of the classes and pay attention because there is a lot of information in this class.
This class is really hard and he expects students to know the material right away. He always says "how and why" but if he doesn't shows us than how the hell will we know how to do it.
Charlie can be great help if you go to him. This is a challenging class to begin with, you have to actually study and work for the grade. It is not his fault, its the class. Do yourself a favor, there are no better teachers, take him.
one of my best teachers! he explains things well and gives take home quizzes (and bonus points)which really help for those who arent good at tests. i highly recommend taking his class! accounting is a hard class to begin with but with charlie's help you'll be able to pass
This guy has some trouble teaching, try to take someone else if you get a chance
Bad at explaining, not helpful during office hours, take someone else if you have the chance
No one wants to take accounting anyways, so no matter who you take this class will suck. However, Charlie has a special way of making it extra difficult. I also has him for ACC131 where he gave EC, but he schiested & didn't give us any in this class. He doesn't use powerpoints & has hard problems on the tests worth a ridiculous amount of points.
Class was really hard, but I think he does a good job of explaining things. You HAVE to do the homework and study of else you will fail the class. He's a nice professor and offers extra credit. I think he does a good job of explaining things.
I have always been a A/B student and I have studied my ass off and I am FAILING! So now after all my hard efforts not only is my GPA ruined, I have to take the class again. No extra credit, tests are worth so many points & are impossible. If you get stuck with him...GOODLUCK!
Was good for 131 but awful for 132. In 131 he gave EC, his tests were much easier, & he explained things better. I never opened my book and got a B. For 132 though, I studied my ass off and passed the class by only 1 question on the final. The only good thing about his teaching is that he gives take home quizzes.
This guy is an ass. Don't take his class. I missed a C by only 1 point and he knew I did not miss one class. He knew me by name and I went to him for help. He also knew I was busting my ass to get an A but I couldn't comprehend the material at times. The tests were very hard as well. Complete jack-ass. Good-luck staying awake..
Charlie Thomas is an excellent teacher. But be careful, there is such thing as a dumb question and he isn't afraid to make you look dumb. He expects you to do the readings and READ the syllabus. The class is pretty easy and getting an A just requires going to class and taking good notes.
i was in complete boredom when i took this class. he was very unfair towards some students, and gave favortism toward certain students.
A nice guy, tries to be helpful and keep things interesting, but gives confusing in-class notes and goes way too fast. You NEED to read the book a LOT if you hope to pass.
Charlie is an okay teacher, his notes are confusing but he does commit to "helping" outside the class. He gives take home quizzes, and his test can be very hard. He is a really strict grader and doesn't curve ANYTHING! If you go to tutoring, read the book and do the homework then maybe you will pass!
Overall he expains the information in a clear and understandable way. In order to get an A you would have to read the book because he doesnt always go over everything in class. if you need help he is more then welcome to give it to you. He also offers extra credit and gives handouts on the chapters that are helpful
Overall, I thought he was a very good teacher. I came into this class hearing the horrors of accounting and how it is the class they use to filter kids out of the business program. However, if you take notes, actually go to class, and study, it should not be a problem. I definately would take him again.
I was really concerned about taking this class with this teacher from all the stories that I heard. It really wasn't that bad. Quizes were take home, and we dropped the lowest score. Tests were hard (curve built in though), and you have to study for them. Overall if you are a good studier and go to class, you should do fine.
His lectures are completely useless. Basically I passed the class because of extra credit and studying for four days for the final..my advice is to take someone else if you must take either 131 or 132
I did not like Thomas. I thought he did a HORRIBLE job explaining the material. At least he tells you which application problems are on the test. THANK GOD I got a C.
Lecture is not mandatory but you need to go to class to understand material. Take home quizzes are easy, but you can't make up if you miss them. Encourages you to do homework on your own, but does it with you in class. Extra credit available. Tests are hard & are mutiple choice with problems you have to work out.
Worst accounting teacher at ISU. Avoid him if possible. I went to him for help and studied for tests and still ended up with a D.
Thomas seems nice and tricks you to believe that he genuinely cares that you learn, but he actually doesn't care about your grade even if you go to him for help. will not budge and his tests are almost impossible. you better be a cpa to pass his class...
Will put you to sleep. Studied for all the tests, and still failed every test. Blahhhh. Not an interesting teacher.
HORRIBLE PROFESSOR! the notes you take in class will not help you, he talks to fast in lectures, which you have to go to unless you want to fail, and his tests are impossible. Take anyone else besides Charlie, worst professor I have ever had, and I am a good student.
He was extremely boring and went through the notes way too fast. He does not care about his students. You better go to every class and read the book if you want to pass.
As long as you ready the material before class and do your homework, it really isn't that bad. This class does take a little more time than other classes, but the quizes are take home and if you study, the tests arent that hard. I probly studied 4 hrs a week and pulled of a solid A.
I thought Thomas was hard, but after talking with several other people it seems that it doesn't matter what teacher you have, every ACC teacher comes with difficulties. The material is difficult, but if you want the type of instructor that is no-nonsense, take him. He's a nice guy, despite being strict. You will fail if you don't study/attend.
Worst teacher ive ever had. Notes are not organized and make no sense. Super boring, I studied for every test and still failed them all. I just stopped going to class and ended up getting an F. My new acc teacher is so much better.
Good, but there's a lot of work on your own as well.
ended up failing all the tests.. took acc 131 with a different prof. and ended up with a B!
Worst teacher ever. Comes to class looking like he just got off the golf course and writes on his stupid overhead too fast for anyone to take notes. Asks questions to the class that nobody knows, then gets angry when nobody can come up with the answers. Tests are hard and he has 4 TA's monitor everyone to stop people from cheating.
Teacher is pretty hard! Has take home quizzes that are pretty easy but tests are difficult and require lots of studying. I failed the first test then got a tutor and have done much better since! If you are gunna have this teacher I recommend getting a tutor at the beginning of the semester and you will be fine!
The material can be dry and tough, but I thought he was organized and explained it clearly. The take home quizzes are a great way to make some easy points if you've read the book and gone to class. He goes over homework problem by problem in class which is really helpful with studying for the tests. This is definitely a class you can't miss!
Great Professor for ACCT 131 & 132! Clearly states what you need to learn in order to get a good grade but that requires the student to actually study & prepare. Easy quizes, class not mandatory but recomended, some extra credit is avaliable. Book problems are key to your success, the ones he assigns are extremely similar to the ones on the test.
Had him for both 131 and 132. Extremely hard and expects a lot out of a 100 level course. I would suggest not taking him because he is not willing to help with quizzes or homework. Tests are difficult - half multiple choice, half accounting problems. Also assigns seats by alphebetical order and takes attendance.
Hard Class
This is the hardest class i have ever taken in my life!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have no idea what people are talking about saying hard class or worst teacher. In my opinion he is the best teacher I've had here so far, he is very clear and explains things VERY well. His tests are hard, but if you study the study guides he gives you and read a bit before the tests, you'll do fine. He is a great guy/teacher take him if you c
His notes are really unclear and scrambled but I hardly studied for tests and I'm going to get a B in the class. The homework isn't too bad but lectures are super boring... he also offers 10 points of extra credit for going to workshops thru UCLA. Not that bad.
Knows his stuff but runs through class extremely quickly, be prepared to take notes and not stop until class is over. Checks attendance for points randomly, take home quizzes, three exams and a final. Extremely monotone which put me to sleep several times. Overall, I would take a class with him again.
Charles Thomas (II) is a really good teacher if you can keep up with him during class. Make sure you read the chapters and do the homework and you'll be fine. He offers 10 points of EC for attending workshops, and takes random attendance. If you go in for office hours, he'll remember your name for the rest of the year. I highly recommend him.
I really thought he was a good teacher. Told you exactly was was expected and was clear on everything. Tests weren't bad. I'm hoping for an A.
This dude is alright, he's monotonous and boring, but its accounting I don't know what you're expecting. Never read the book went to class though, his notes are unorganized and he jumps around. Got a 89.4% he doesn't round up. its easy though, memorization is all this class is. Tests are multiple choice with written parts, the final is all mult
CET is a really good teacher. the class isn't exactly fun but he really knows the subject cuz he was an accountant. He's very helpful if u ask and tells you exactly what to study for all the exams.
This guy is a great professor and really knows his stuff. Go to class and you'll be fine.
Charlie is a strange guy. Painful to listen to for an hour and fifteen minutes. But he makes up for it with relatively easy tests and a lot of extra credit opportunities. You will probably end up teaching accounting to yourself because his notes are so unorganized. He is a mastermind in accounting, but not at teaching
This professor is walking proof that all you need is an overhead projector and a marker to properly teach. As long as you go to class and pay attention to what he writes down, you should be fine. The aplia assignments are helpful in studying for tests and boosting your grade. Starting accounting with a professor like this is the best way to go.
He knows his stuff, but doesn't make sure we do. He never explains why or how he does things. You will end up teaching yourself out of the book. If you go in and talk to him he will get to know you and cut you some slack come final grade time. He is approachable but just not teaching material.
Prof Thomas knows accounting very well, but he just doesn't know how to teach it. His notes are an unorganized mess. He doesn't take attendance, but make sure you go to get notes, you write a ton every time you meet. Plus, he throws in random attendance quizzes for extra points. He's pretty boring too. I wouldn't recommend him to others.
Charlie Thomas is one of the worst teachers I've ever had. His tests are ridiculously hard and his notes are sloppy and all over the place. Just a bad teacher who makes me want to drop out school. Thanks for nothing
Honestly, not that bad of a teacher. Tough for sure and really boring, but definitely not impossible. Do the homework and you should be okay. Offers a good amount of extra credit. I never really read the book, just used it for the examples and stuff and got an A.
He just uses a projector but he does teach you everything you need to know for the test and responds to questions well. He speaks in a very monotone voice which can make it hard to pay attention sometimes. His tests are not hard but not easy need to study a good amount. Easy to talk to though after class and happy to clarify
Nice Guy. Boring course. Not much more too it than that. Lectures get dull, but it's accounting lol
Had him for 131 and 132 and did not regret it. Does his best to make sure you pass as he always explains what will be on the test. Yes he's a little monotone, but most teachers for this section are. Most of his test questions come from the homework, just study and you will do fine. Nice guy to talk to for office hours
Best instructor I have had in college, possibly ever. Very thorough and great at what he does. Also gives extra credit for attendance. Take this class with Thomas! A bit monotonous, but he gets his point across.
Not the best teacher, not the easiest material, go to his office hours and he will review just about anything you need, the most helpful guy that does care about his students. With attendance extra credit along with the workshops he offers for extra credit this is the professor to take for acc 131
Pretty average teacher. Does a good job of explaining concepts but his voice will instantly put you to sleep and you will dream about accounting in class. Doesn't take attendance and everything you need is in the book. If you do well on the online homework every week and don't screw up the tests too badly you should do well in his class.
Charlie Thomas was a very good teacher. His class is a little tough but if you are willing to put in the work it is a good class. In class you will take lots of note but if you ever don't understand them he will gladly answer your question and make sure you understand. He was super helpful. The tests are a bit challenging but doable with studying.
Good teacher, tough class. Don't try to take notes on a computer, you won't be able to keep up. Gotta have the textbook for online assignments. There are a couple extra credit opportunities (easy workshops at Visor) throughout.
Hes a pretty cool dude. He is willing to help you out of class and always answers his emails. Theres three tests and a final which equal out to be 83% of the grade. He gives about ten point ec of attendance quizes and then if you go to workshops you can get another 10 point of ec. The class is not to hard if you attend and can follow along.
Make sure you buy the physical copy for this class. He goes over a lot of questions in class so bring it with you. Lectures are a bit long, lots of notes but very important to go to. Go to his office hours if you have questions, he is happy to help students.
boring
Hardest class I've ever taken and I'll be a senior. NEVER skip class and take good notes. You can't cram the night before the tests. Do the extra credit workshops. Don't get behind and just pass the class. If you don't like accounting, you don't want to have to retake this class. It's brutal enough the first time.
Accounting is really difficult, but Charlie does his best to make sure everyone understands the material. He was a great teacher and I would recommend taking him since it's such a difficult class. You need the book for clarification and he sometimes uses examples from the book, so bring it to class.
Final has 18 questions out of 64 that come from a chapter that you begin learning the week we come back from Thanksgiving, that made the test SO hard. He says you need to spend 3 hours for every hr and 15 min you're in class and he's not joking. I'd take it with a different professor if you can, very boring. Barely passed with a C and I had a 4.0
Good class. Makes accounting easier and clear to understand. Class is boring, but that is what accounting is. As long as you go to the class you should pass. Gives a good amount of extra credit on tests.
Probably one of my favorite professors I've had so far. Lectures can be very boring, but if you are ever lost, he provides great assistance during his office hours. He is also a very fair grader, and a decent amount of effort is expected to be put in for the class. Attendance will sometimes get you extra credit too.
Charlie was a very good teacher, yes at times he could be very boring but he gives you studyguides before each test which if you follow point by point you will do well on. Accounting is hard but he is one of the nicest teachers you will ever meet and is very helpful in his office hours as well.
He's a good professor, very knowledgeable. However, he and the material are very dry. The tests can be difficult especially because he does not give very detailed study materials. Homework is easy and will boost your grade. He gives some extra credit and will give a slight curve to test scores. Make sure you read the book. ACC can be confusing.
Charlie is one of my favorite professors at ISU, but he's not for everyone. His class is very fast paced, which I really liked b/c it kept me alert and focused, no time to doze off. Really knows his stuff too. UTILIZE HIS OFFICE HOURS, I CANNOT STRESS THAT ENOUGH. He is extremely good at 1 on 1 teaching. Better at teaching 131 than 132, IMO.
You either love or hate him. There's tons of note taking in class so definitely don't miss it. He does many examples that are identical to the exam and hw which helps a lot. If you want to do well, GO TO HIS OFFICE HOURS. You'll learn to appreciate him more. Although I am an ACC major, he is by far the best professor at ISU. Excellent teacher.
Pretty good teacher, if a little dry. Use textbook a lot, buy online version or physical copy, not both. Homework is easy and he drops 2 worst. Tests aren't too bad, mostly multiple choice. Takes attendance quizzes every now and then, free credit as long as you go to class.
Do show up to class every day because that is a lot of extra credit (do all extra credit options available to you, it will make a difference!). I recommend reading because he expects you to understand things from the get go. The second test is hard so be prepared for it. He is really nice. DO the mult. choice from the book it is on exams!
Accounting is a hard class but he does a great job of explaining all the concepts and genuinely caring for his students' success. He will tell you what the test is going to focus on majorly so you can study efficiently. Attendance quizzes are given occasionally where you just have to write your name down.
Overall his lectures were okay but he would go through a lot of material very quickly. One thing i recommend is to start studying days in advance before exams and do the optional homework for every chapter.
Charlie was an overall great guy and professor. I had him for both 131 and 132. Lectures can be dry, but it is a must that you go to class. He goes over several problems in the book that will benefit you a lot for the exams. Hes very personable and will always be glad to help you during his office hours. You definitely should consider taking this.
Charlie doesn't really make sure students understand the lectures before moving forward Using the textbook to help you it will be beneficial and using class notes too because the textbook doesn't give out answers so it can be very hard to study. Do practice multiple choice, he gives out the answers through email they are on the exam!!
Very good professor. The class has difficult concepts and he has long lectures, but he uses the lectures to explain those concepts very thoroughly. I never used the textbook for anything other than homework problems because he explained things so well. One of the best teachers I've had. Pay attention in class, and the worst grade you'll get is a B.
Thomas is a great teacher but be aware that he doesn't post the notes online and will occasionally give attendance quizzes at the end of class. He goes over textbook problems in class a well so I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND that you get the loose leaf version of the book so that you can bring the book to class and follow along with him.
Charles Thomas is an amazing professor. I really struggled with the material, I did all the homework, did extra credit and went to tutoring once a week. He was encouraging and helpful, I spent a lot of time going to his office hours to review what we learned in class. I am not happy with my grade, but I could not have asked for a better professor.
Lectures were boring, but I learned so much! He really knows what he is talking about and really cares. He also gives extra credit for just showing up to class and has extra credit on each exam. In total I think I had about 20ish points of extra credit which were amazing. It might seem kinda hard, but I also used Edspira on Youtube for extra help.
86% of the grade is made up of 4 exams. Make sure that you watch the lectures and understand the material because 1 bad exam can destroy your grade. The homework is really easy and can help you a lot for the exams. Lectures were all pre-recorded and posted online each week.
Professor Thomas is such a great professor! Hes extremely helpful in office hours!!! His class is incredibly easy and you should get an A with minimal effort!
this class was pretty difficult and your grade is based mostly on the exams which are not easy. He gives study guides for the exams but they are not very helpful since you basically have to know what's in every chapter. You have to put in a ton of work in order to get a good grade in this class and it's not easy at all.
Charlie is a legendary professor. If you want to actually learn accounting, take this course
Charles isn't necessarily the most entertaining professor, but he really will make sure you know your stuff. If you're struggling, go to his office hours. He really cares about his students if they put in an effort... There isn't much homework at all, just one quick weekly assignment on cengage. The tests are very easy as long as you study.
I LOVED Charlie Thomas. 100% recommend to everyone. The class is just him talking the whole time, but he is explaining everything and taking notes by hand rather than reading off a slide. He does a lot of example problems in class and gives out a bunch of extra credit, like 45 points. Sometimes just for being in class.
Terrible teacher. The tests don't correlate with anything he does in class, he does practice problems all class with awful handwriting and doesn't take any time for students to write down his work. His tests are multiple choice questions that he doesn't talk about during class he just expects you to know them. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS
He is a good guy and a decent professor. Attendance isn't mandatory but he does attendance quizzes randomly. Examples done in class don't really match the test, so you need to do outside work to pass with a good grade. If you take good notes, get extra help you will pass. But if you're going just to go and not take good notes you'll fail
Professor Thomas' ACC131 class is challenging, but with the right approach it can be manageable. The exams are tough, so staying on top of the material and using resources like Unstuck study for study prep is key. Overall, it's a worthwhile class if you're willing to put in the work.
Amazing. The way he teaches directly corporates to homework and exams. Grade based off of 4 exams and weekly homework assignments. He's so helpful and really wants you to succeed. Remembers his students. Loved him.
The whole class is just copying what he writes on a legal pad. The homework is meh, not that many questions but you get 3 tries. The exams are HARD, the study guides are pretty vague, but make sure you start studying at least a week in advance. Tony Bell on YouTube was a life saver for understanding the material. Accounting is hard in general.
75 minutes of copying his notes as he speaks so you can't learn because your just copying. Hand about to fall off from all the writing fade this professor if you can.
The professor himself is okay, the class itself sucks. The lectures are useful, but hard to follow along. Most of my learning was done through the online ebook, which is ESSENTIAL to pass the class. Homework isn't hard whatsoever and you get three chances to do it. If you got better options, go for it. If not, he isn't awful.
