great professor if you come to class and make an effort to learn
fast-paced classes, but learned a lot from her--glad i took her class
if she sees you trying she'll help more

very good teacher. she has to cram in a lot of information in a little amount of time, so you have to do your part. if you do, you will do fine in the class.
Assumes you already know a lot about Biology on the first class. Skips around a lot, has no set outline for how she writes notes.
skipped around a lot and was unclear of what is required on her test and ask questions in the most difficult way possible and tries to trick you.
Not too bad of a prof...rants about plants a lot but she's a botanist, you have to just understand. The tests were fairly simple, requires some thinking, but STUDY for the lab practicals! She's a little scatter-brained at times, but she does the job.
She is very unclear and tends to jump from subject to subject. But she is very nice and loves plants
She is a very sweet teacher but she doesn't teach in order. Its hard to keep up or understand her during lecture. Her test are confusing but she does make it up somewhat with the extra credit.
She was a very nice teacher, just confusing. The lecture never made since. If you take her, take notes in the book in order to follow along. The multiple choice part of the test is impossible. Lab exams aren't hard. She gives a lot of extra credit. Scatter brained but very helpful!
Prepare for Biology to be your life. You will have to live and breathe it to get a B.
This prof is very unorganized. She is very scattered brain. She also assumes that you know a lot and doesnt take the time to teach the needed material, except for plants. When you enter this class plan to study everyday including weekends. Good Luck!Pray!Study!Study!Study!
This class with Dr. Christy requires many hours of studying and detailed book reading. The lab practicals are the hardest I have ever taken; however, she does give a curve on them. The exams are slightly too long for the time intervals and require rapid writing. If you want an A in this class, you better study hard from the beginning.
Wow, what a doozy! This course was very difficult. She was uncleared but very nice. The test are too long for time allow and lab exams are ridiculous. I studied but was still lost. Do the plant collection if u wish to pass.
Totally loved this class, despite the difficulty. It does take a lot of study, but the lab experience was usually pretty fun. And she was usually available for help outside of class.
My favorite professor at ASU so far. Don't get me wrong, she is tough. But if you pay attention and study hard, she will teach you the way a biologist should know it.
Lab was fine and easy and very interesting, especially the fruit lab! She did seem to lose me some in some areas of lecture using terminology I never heard of and the book never stated. Overall a great experience and whatever you do, chose her over Dr. Gordon for Botany, you won't regret it!
hooray for dr.christie boo for the plant class
I loved Dr. Christy, she's very sweet. Her class is semi-hard. Tests are mostly responding to questions, but she always gives extra credit. Lab practicals are VERY hard, be sure to study lots of slides. And if you have the class in fall, actually collect all your plants before it's too cold for anything to bloom, and start keying before the end.
She is a great person, but her class is not a breeze. You have to study, especially her lab practicals. I suggest you take about a month to study everything because anything goes.
Lab praticals were AWFUL!You need to study every waking moment of your life to get through this class. She's great outside of class, easy to talk to but it can be hard to follow her lectures.
Try not to take her not the best professor...her lectures are unorganized and the book doesnt help..tests are pretty hard..i am a good student and never made a B and actually got a C her class! Good luck and study hard for her. But she is a nice person outside of class
Dr. Christy is a good teacher. She knows what she is talking about. At first it seems that she lectures at a higher level, but you will get used to it. attendance is not mandatory. Her tests are fair, if you study you will do fine. She gives extra credit opportunities on every assignment, including tests. She is always available to help you.
Great professor. Hard to follow at first, but it becomes easier if you stick through it. She knows her stuff and expects you too also... Lab practicals are TOUGH...
She was a little unorganized and had a quarky sense of humor. Her class was hard but she gave out numerous bonus points for in-class questions. The tests also had 10 point bonus and she curves so depending on your class you might or might not do well. By midterm a 1/3 of the class dropped. Read and study in groups, it helps. Her reviews r worthless
Am writing this after entire summer, so somewhat hazy, but from what do remember nothing bad. Most of stuff people have already said true to lesser or greater degree. Have never met professor that tried harder to make class interesting. OH and used chalkboard, lol. Last day gave out bonus questions that missed. 20 points extracredit test points!
the tests are way tooo long for the time given. On every single test there were at least 5 or more peep that never finished. Labs are boring and long and xtremly hard. Lab practicals she has to give huge curves on bc noone ever passes them.. but i will say she does give xtra credit if u understand what she is asking for.
Dr. Christy was honestly a horrible professor, and I'm not the type who usually downs on a teacher because I did poorly in his/her class. Her lectures were impossible to keep up with, tests were way harder than they had to be, and lab practicals were even harder. I had to live, breather, and sleep this class to get a B. DO NOT TAKE!
I don't know where to start. Sometimes she goes off on random subjects in middle of lecture. She doesn't use the book much at all. Tests are hard, preactical even harder. I guess if you can understand everything she is getting at in class during lecture and lab then you may pass. We had half the class drop before midterm. Very tough...
Worst teacher I have ever had, when asked for help she would not be available, must attend tutoring, lab practicals are impossible,no office hours ...not available often...her passion is botany and that is ALL she cares sbout
Nice lady, but seems like she's teaching med school. Half of the stuff she teaches was NOT in the book. A collegue of hers stated that she teaches whats not in the ASU curriculum. All of her notes are hand-written and from memory. If you want a challenge, she's it, thats for sure. Out of like 28 students, only 4 received and A.
She has a great personality, but she's a horrible teacher. We had a 100 question test in only 50 minutes and they were not multiple choice. The questions were you can use this once or not at all or even maybe twice types of questions. You don't have enough time to think about all that in 30 seconds. Be prepared to write 3 pages for each test.
She is a tough teacher and if you do not understand her teaching habits than you probably should drop her.Attendence is good to keep up because she gave out extra points for being there when most the class skipped several times. Test are hard but if you study you will be fine.Gives reading guides to help, and has an SI to help with understanding.
Sweet woman. Bad teacher. She's super passionate about what she teaches but her tests are NOT representative of her classes. I loved biology before her class and I've completely been turned off of it because of her class. I've never dropped a class and I had to withdrawal from hers. If you're right brained like I am, DO NOT take her!
Dr. Christy is a great professor. She expects you to work hard and learn the information. She is very sweet in the classroom and outside of it. She is more than willing to help if you go to her. If you do not want to put in the work then do not take her class.
Dr. Christy is tough overall. her lectures are 90% oral, which can be tough. you must take good notes. As the semester progresses you will be able to distinguish between what you need to know and what is a part of her "intellectual rants" she has. she works with you very well when you ask. STUDY. testes are relatively easy if you are well prepared.
Likes: She provided ec points on tests and practical. Dislikes: her tests are difficult. Over 80 questions with essays in 50 minutes. Doesn't answer questions well nor available much during office hours. Doesn't let you record lectures. Be prepared to do a lot of memorizing, studying, and learn to take good notes if you want tot get a decent grade.
She only lectures off of Powerpoint, but she does allow access to the Powerpoint online, so that's good Huge focus on labs, very detailed questions. If you take her, study the stages of photosynthesis very very hard. If I had, I would have gotten an A.
If you want to fail, take her class. Dr. Christy grades extremely hard. Her test comes from her powerpoint (oral) and she doesn't upload it on d2l. She is the worst professor that I have ever taken at GRU and I had to withdraw.
Dr. Christy is the worst professor that I have taken at GRU. It is very hard to complete her 100 question tests with short answers in 50 mins. She often tries to confuse her students by giving tricky questions. Her tests come from her powerpoints (oral) and her memory. Her lab practicals are harder than her exams. If you want a challenge, take her.
She is a good lecturer, but her tests are really hard. She does give out reading guides and ask you to read the book, but none of the questions on tests seem to come from the reading guides or the book. There are 80 something questions on the test and you only have 50 minutes to answer. Even her extra credit was hard.
Is a bit disorganized. Gets behind on lectures. Tests are 80 - 100 questions taken in 50 minutes, but does give extra credit. Does provide reading guides which help very little. Pre-read the chapters prior to the lecture and you may be able to follow along. Would not recommend unless you're a Biology major and can wade thru her unsystematic ways.
I freaking hate this professor with a passion! She is very hard and we barely understand what she is teaching about majority of the time. I thought this was suppose to be biology when it feels like we are in a physics class and chemistry. I recommend to never ever take her. More than Half Of our class dropped out leaving a select few !
Terrible lectures - she is very vague about what she wants from you as a student. Absolutely no homework assignments and nothing to help apply what you "learn" in class. Small pop quizzes for role call pretty frequently. I dropped this class a few days before midterm, as the class's average was an F on the first test.
Lectures had very little to do with the test.
This class is one of the hardest/ most stressful things you will ever take!! Her lectures are very unorganized. Tests are all written and very hard. You cant write too much or too little but she wants you to know every detail about everything. She told all of us that we would fail the first test and that it was ok and normal!!! I would not take her
Do not take her class. The teaching style is atrocious. Lectures are disorganized, there's no PowerPoint, studying the textbook wasn't helpful because she is all over the place. The tests don't represent material covered in class, and the majority of the class dropped except for students who needed the class to graduate. 0/10 would not recommend.
Took her prior to my last semester at AU this past spring. This class requires a lot of studying time and knowing your things. First two test are all written with a few matching problems. 3rd test is all multiple choice with a chance to get 10 points EC. All test had EC, and if not, she made a way for you to get some. Difficult class, but doable.
Dr. Christy isn't bad, she's very passionate, but the class is definitely difficult. Take good notes during class because she lectures the whole time and anything she says could be on the test. Study after every class. Tests are hard and there are trick questions but if you know the content 100% you'll be okay. There's extra credit on every test
She is a very difficult professor. She does give extra credit on every exam but her exams are unbearably hard. Nothing she says in class is on the exam, she literally makes up random questions to put on there. Her lab practicals are insanely hard as well. I do not recommend her at all.
Very difficult course but it is doable. If you read every single chapter and know each term you should be fine. There is extra credit on every exam so that helps a lot also.
Okay I passed this class with an A because I knew what is expected for a 4 credit hour class, freshman complain because they never study in high school and expect college to be the same. If you actually try and study for this class youll do great. She very forgiving with plenty of extra credit. If shed teach 1102 I would take hands down
Please don't take she can be very difficult! Lectures are very unorganized its easy to get confused and grades only come from exams and a few extra credit points.
Even studying for this class, I still didn't pass. This section of biology should be fairly easy but she makes it 100x harder than it needs to be. She's very disorganized, lectures are horrible, and takes forever to grade exams. Didn't provide any study guides or have any other grades besides lab and exams. Extra credit was given.
I do not recommemnd taking this teacher, you might think how bad can she be? Well she thats bad you have 80-100 question on each test, they are complex, where you finish at the last minute. She is not a good lecturer and you have to know the material like she does even though this your first year in college which is very difficult. Good Luck!!
It seems like shes all over the place in her lectures and she may be better suited to teaching higher level classes for biology majors. A lot of the material covered during lecture went right over my head. She also took forever to grade assignments. You are graded on 4 lecture tests, 2 lab tests, and 1 other grade of attendance and homework
If you do the reading, come to class, pay attention during lecture, and study youll do fine. The tests were pretty hard but there was always extra credit. I liked Dr. Christy and thought she was pretty funny.
Dr. Christy is easily distracted which makes lecture difficult to follow. Her tests can be tricky so you need to know the material inside and out. She gives extra credit on every test and also the final. Go to class the get the participation points; theyre worth 20% of your class grade. Overall, shes not terrible, but also not great.
-All over the place. -Unorganized -Unhelpful -She will make things more difficult than they need to be -DO NOT TAKE
She doesnt offer extra credit. She grades off of the few post labs and the 2 practicals. Counts some questions wrong if she feel it doesnt apply to the answer. Such as one question was what type of flower is this? and if you got that wring then the next question which was is it native and if you guessed she counted it wrong. Very disorganized
Dr Christy is not a good professor for intro Biology. She doesn't teach at an intro level. You must teach yourself if you desire a passing grade. Freshmen beware!
Do not take her!! Her lectures make absolutely no sense, whats on the test have little to nothing to do with what she talks about. Towards the end of class we stared using the periodic table a lot even though its ENVIRONMENTAL BIOLOGY . She is very unorganized and she is unclear on what chapters the test is on and doesnt give out study guides.
She has no idea how to teach intro level biology. If you're not a bio major, DO NOT take her if you can help it. You'll mainly be teaching yourself, and her fail rate is incredible. For anyone currently in one of her classes: you should at least pass as long as you READ the book and focus heavily on the vocab.
Worst professor ever, she doesnt care about the students. After the inclass lectures got cancelled, she did everything last minute. She told us about quizzes the day before and didnt explain any material she posted. She also never responds to emails. You'll only pass this class if you study on your own, her lectures dont help at all on tests.
Do not take this professor! It is very difficult to do well in her class. There are only 5 grades for the semester. The test questions have nothing to do with what was talked about in lecture. You are left to guess what will be on the lab practicals and may even be tested on organisms you've never seen before! Her classes are very unorganized.
I made an A in this class by learning almost everything on my own, and I read the textbook cover to cover, creating detailed study guides and taking my own notes. Dr. Christy is very lecture heavy and will easily fill a 90 minute class talking with little to no participation from students. She is available for questions and offers extra credit.
She doesnt accept late work AT ALL.
She is very unorganized. Tests have nothing to do with the lectures unless you have read the textbook word for word. Does not give any extra credit. Very nice person, however, not the professor freshmen should be taking.
As a freshman, I would not recommend taking Dr. Christy's class. I had to take this class online, due to the pandemic. However, for a Fundamentals of Biology class, she make the class way too hard. Expect to watch her lectures and takes notes, as well as reading the textbook. When you take a quiz, you will not receive you grade back for weeks.
Horrible at responding to emails and took forever to get our practicals back to us. Still don't know if I am passing because she hasn't put in any other grades.
This is horrible, just finished the class with a 64 and she didnt even grade everything. She forgot to grade exams sometimes, gave assignments that she forgot about, and gave exams over 5 chapters at a time even though one chapter was the majority of each exam.
Very unorganized, so be prepared to study and teach yourself. Quizzes every week, so don't be late and always study for them. Grades very slowly, you probably won't know your grade until basically the end of the semester or 3 weeks later. Her instructions aren't clear some times so just email her.
Dr. Christy is all over the place and she did not put effort into the student's learning. Whenever there was a test, she would not let us go over the questions we missed. Very lecture heavy. She grades very slowly, so you do not know what your grade is in the class. This class should not be difficult considering this is an intro class.
Really disappointed in this class. I came in excited to learn about botany and was devastated after the first few weeks. Her lectures are extremely vague, she complains that you arent being specific or professional enough in your answers, and she leaves lab every chance she can get. Also gave 87 question exams with 50 minutes to complete it!
This is my freshman year and I tried to do my best in here. The first exam was over 6 Chapters and everyone in the class failed except 5 people , out of like 40. I really did not want to withdraw from this class being in my lab class I was doing so good . But this lecture messed me up. The class is boring and I just wouldn't recommend her .
I honestly really liked this class. She's very lecture heavy and every class is spent taking notes and listening to her teach. It's almost November and we've only had 2 exams, so it's very important that you study for them. She is very easy to reach by email and always has answers to my questions. The exams are heavily based on the textbook.
Taking this class currently and this professor is by far the worst one ive had while being in college. Shes very unclear with what she wants. She gives work to 1101 students as if theyre 1107 students. Overall not a good professor. I HIGHLY recommend getting someone else if youre given that opportunity!! She also never responds to emails.
I am a nursing major and I enjoy biology. I got an A in lab and failed the lecture. She was completely unclear about grading and did not help one bit when it came to studying for tests. Her lectures are hard to follow and she does not really teach out of the textbook. I do not recommend taking this professor for anything.
would not recommend taking her. Her monotoned voice and terrible lecture style made the class impossible. I tried tutoring services, reading the textbook, studying her lecture PowerPoints and nothing seemed to prepare me for the ridiculously hard exams she created. She is a very intelligent woman but does not know how to teach. Also very rude.
Her tests are the hardest I've ever taken. I studied an average of 1 week in advance for every test; got 1 A, 1 B, and 2 C's. I did not buy the textbook and didn't find that I was at a disadvantage. I got an 89.5 in the class and she didn't round up--that tells you enough about her character. Only take her if she's the last available option.
I hope you like fish, because no matter what class you're in she will make you learn about them. Tone-deaf and cruel, she would tell students that they were simply not smart enough to learn the material. She gets irritated by questions during her monolog lectures and is inaccessible during office hours. Pick any other professor
Practicals were based on how her class was doing at that time, didnt care if you hadnt learned it already. Would go on rants about various things that had nothing to do with lecture. Practicals were much harder than the study guides. Would give out study guides with only a couple days until the practical. Would not recommend unless you have to.
Never have I ever been so confused with a prof's teaching style. Nothing from the book. Nothing from the power points provided. You had better hope that you have good hearing because the tests are straight from her mouth to the paper. If she is your only option, wait to take the course the next semester.
B in lecture, C in lab. Papers were lifted from other Professors. Grades were given extremely late and no way to go back and check what was wrong because of it. Little to no communication, tests were from mouth to paper and literally nothing else, grades and papers frequently forgotten to be posted, even the syllabus was forgotten in the beginning.
Dr. Christy is a good professor in my opinion. There is a lot to learn so you just have to study. Exams were hard because she tried to be funny with her answer and it would confuse me at times. I enjoyed her class overall.
Professor Christy makes absolutely no sense when she is lecturing. She goes off-topic countless times during each class and makes it impossible to follow along. At least 10 people out of the 30 people in class dropped this class because of her poor teaching ability. Also, her tests are super hard and not necessarily based on the materials provided.
90 question exam in 50 minutes where one question was a 6 part essay question. Shall I say more? Yes. DO NOT TAKE HER!!! She is not worth loosing your sanity over and tanking your GPA. I'm someone who has never done bad in a class and as a senior I have take them all. She was the most difficult, unpredictable, aggressive and confusing professor!
Never have I ever had so much anxiety for one class. She doesn't follow the syllabus, rambles a lot, and needs more explicit instructions; if you ask her for help, she seems not to want to help you. Overall, I felt defeated in her class and stressed out; even if you are an excellent studier or make good grades, I wouldn't recommend this class.
If you have to take her make sure you are good at tests, she talks fast and make sure you can teach yourself
does not update grades until after the final, does not respond to emails, and is not extremely willing to work with you. I took her lab, she will not show you a PowerPoint or give you reference material. Everything she says is up for grabs for practicals, I suggest recording all lectures.
This class was so hard and it was so hard to get myself to go to all her lectures because she would just have a slide in front of her with a picture and she would just talk about it. There was barely text so it was hard to figure out what she was saying. I had to download an app that transcribes what she is saying. Also, stupid fish project.
She never puts in grades. mainly exam grades. she dont even take up the lab work we do every week its awful dont take her class.
She rambles off topic so you never know what is important and it makes you fall behind and not on track to get all the material before the final. She also has a fish project that is essentally her hobby as a project. I have to retake this class and it sets me an entire year back from graduating. If you can, switch.
Overall, she's an okay professor. Attendance is mandatory is you want to achieve a good grade. She tends to go off topic during most of her lectures. Exams are mainly about what she says and what's in the textbook rather than the info given on slides. She does provide a fish project to replace a low exam grade!
This class is hard itself. Professor Christy goes over slides daily and she changes slides before you can finish writing. Everyday is a new slideshow and you're responsible for making sure you write the notes on your own time. The exams are super hard so make sure to study hard. Also, don't wait til last minute to complete the fish project.
hardest biology professor ever taken
Easiest extra credit work ever assigned. The tests are easy if you just read the textbook chapters and do the practice problems that come in the book.
She's not a bad person. But her teaching methods just don't line up with a good end grade. It felt like I had to teach myself the class via the PowerPoints she provided when I got home. The Fish Project was a good extra edit opportunity to replace the lowest exam grade but start it the moment you're assigned the project. Takes time for screenshots
Lab practical: 54 questions in 30 min, some was math. Bombed her exam after studying the material 16+ hours. 2 practicals=75% of your grade. I had an A+ in the lecture & less than a 40 on her practical. Offhandedly rude, doesn't explain things well. No lab ppt slides. Syllabus was not posted until a month after class started. Never puts in grades.
She is very disorganized. Her handwriting is horrible and wrote 5 bullet points on the board as "instructions" for our lab report. It was so unclear. She takes off points for dumb things. For example, if we didn't write extremely salty instead of salty on our paper we got 2 points taken off. She also is so hard to find/contact for office hrs.
Professor Christy's class is no walk in the park. While her teaching style doesn't jive with everyone, using unstuck AI and the textbook can help you navigate this tricky course. Nail the Fish Project early on for that extra boost.
Run! She made us do soooo much work only to put 2 grades in lol. On the lab practical (keep in mind this is a BIO class) she asked us what volcano erupted that day…. obviously I did not know. She also talks a lotttt and goes off subject. If you love yourself don't take her
