1 Research paper ,1 final, no homework just read the chapter if you want. Takes attendance but does not drop if your out, just lower grade.
This was the worst class I have ever taken. She had absolutely no idea what she was doing. Gave us 60 pages of notes 5 days from end of class for final. That and a paper which she assigned that had to be reassigned because she didnt explain how it had to be written the first time. DO NOT TAKE.
3 assignments the whole time, but you did not know were you stood in the class. 1 test, 1 research thats all so if you stink at taking test dont take her. You dont know any grades unitl last day of class. 1 absent is a b. So go to class. Don't recommend
great teacher-explained everything well. I would definitely recommend this class to anyone.
The 2 writing assignments(50% of grade)are easy. Attendance and participation are 25% of the grade and the final is 25% of the grade. The final is very difficult. The teacher will give a practice test, but it is in no way a reflection of the actual final. If you show up and do well on the papers you can still get a decent grade in this class.
WORST prof I ever had. Had no ****ing clue what she was doing. We had 2 major essays to write, and the first one she said and WROTE that it could be your opinion, then when we handed them in said she "meant" that it couldn't be your opinion. She
Nice person, not a fantastic teacher, teaches right from the text book, read chapters, take notes, you should be OK.
She's a good teacher. As long as you attend class, do your homework, and take notes, you're fine. Don't take her if you plan to be lazy and slack off. If you actually want to learn something, then her class is right for you.
She cannot teach at all!!! She reads from the book and doesn't teach you anything at all. She ruined my 4.0 GPA!! Stay away from her!!
I loved Prof. Langeveld! She was very knowledgable. I really enjoyed her personal insight. This was a lecture intensive course but I found it very interesting
took her online...HORRIBLE. extremely unorganized, COMPLETELY disengaged. didn't post assignments on time (even major projects). WONT respond to e-mail, even when it is an emergency. Tests are nearly impossible as she does not offer outlines or power points. Obscure ?s from textbook. Numerous trick ?s. No xtra credit. DONT TAKE HER, ruined my 4.0.
doesn't answer email or accept hw via email. will cancel class last minute. does not post grades. i would not recomend her if you're unorganized, however, if u take notes and follow the sylabus, you're fine.
Prof. Langeveld is an amazing professor. Brings her real world experience into the classroom. She is very engaging. Should be teaching in a University! I will take her again for Cultural Anthropology.
Prof. Langeveld is a very good professor. You need to read and be prepared to do well. She knows everything about World Religions.
I loved her. I have friends who hate her guts but I don't know why. She made a couple people leave for texting but thats expected in college. She's fun and easy to understand, she seems like the coolest lady ever, she has traveled the world just to help mankind, and she teaches not only from the book but from her life experience.Very knowledgeable
I loved this class. Prof. Langeveld is a great teacher. She is straight forward and helps you if you ask!
I had thorough interest in learning about different religions and I could say I did. While Prof. Langeveld can be stuffy, and treats the class like high schoolers on occasion, she's very intelligent and has dry humor. There are three tests and a PowerPoint presentation on a religion that's not their own. Attending every class helps your grade.
While the class is extremely easy, Professor Langeveld can be frustrating at times. Her online class lacked organization and there were days she wouldn't sign in to reply to students. When she did reply to you, her answers were very unclear and seemed as though she didn't even read your question at all. I don't know how she is in real life, though.
I have her for Sociology and she is my favorite teacher. This is the best teacher ever. I have learned so much from her work experience in difficult situations overseas. She is passionate and motivational! I recommend her to all OCC students. You won't regret it.
Her class is relativelty easy, I'm passing without a book. Shes all about group discussions that keep you awake and if ur lucky enough to hear her story shes very interesting. Shes a fair grader who does what she can to help u out. shes also consistent with posting things on ocean cruiser and replying to emails. thumbs up :)
very easy class..not the friendliest lady but her works easy. must go to class. don't ever talk while she's talking she gets extremely mad. likes for people to participate and always have group discussions. hw always online but short easy quizzes
Brilliant teacher with amazing life experiences. We are lucky to have someone so knowledgeable and worldly working at OCC. She doesn't put up with nonsense and teaches the class at a true college level.
One of the best teachers at OCC. She brings her world experience into the classroom. I absolutely love this course and love Prof. Langeveld! She is a must take!
She is a great teacher. Always willing to help.
It's up to you to read the chapters if you want to know what is going on so make sure you have time to read the book! She's really easy to follow in lectre and is very laid back. doesn't give much homework besides your obligation to read the book so you're prepared for lecture. overall, AWESOME TEACHER. LEARNING A LOT.
This course opened my eyes to different viewpoints. Professor is extremely knowledgable and easy to understand. I highly recommend taking this course with THIS PROFESSOR! Gained knowledge I will never forget! AWESOME!
Worse teacher ever, notes were so confusing, i got a B for the class but she put a D on my transcript and took 4months to fix smh you do not use the book alot and the notes you take are never on the test all the time smh worse teacher i ever had. Thank God im smart and was able to pass
I loved this class. She is one of OCCs best. She brings her world experience to make boring theories come alive! She does put you to work. No doubt. But it is well worth all of my efforts. I want to join the Peace Corps!
I love this teacher. She is straight forward and to the point. Very knowledgeable. Take her. You will not regret it!
This woman is awesome! She is very knowledgeable and worldly. She doesn't tolerate laziness which some people get upset over.. but hellloooo this is college!
Great teacher! She has traveled the world and brings her experience to the classroom.
Prof. Langeveld is an excellent instructor. The class is difficult, however, you will learn. If you put the time in you will do well.
I love this class. Prof. Langeveld has traveled the world and brings her experience to the classroom. I am taking her Social Problems class in the Spring
I loved this class and will take her for other classes. I did not do well on the tests but I could have studied more.
Simply, loved this class.
I hated this class, she was mean and did not accept any papers everything has to be online. Hated her and the class!!!!
Did not like this teacher, she made the class very difficult! Everything was online she did not accept any paper copies of anything
Worst professor that I have ever had. She is so disrespectful and rude. Save yourself the stress and DO NOT take her.
I LOVE HER. She isn't an easy professor that hands out easy "A"s - like what most people at OCC want. I've taken her for PHIL193, and now am in the middle of Socio with her and am doing phenomenal because I... READ THE BOOK, like she says to, and DO THE WORK... like she says to. The only way you'd fail is if you can't follow simple directions.
does not have class discussions, makes you feel stupid for asking a question
I loved this class. Prof. Langeveld is extremely helpful and has a ton of real world experience that she brings to to the class. Highly recommend!!
She has amazing experience and she tells you in the beginning of the semester exactly what she expects. She's the real deal.
She's not an easy teacher but that difficult. Attendance is stressed, the 3 test were multiple choice must study, you must take notes and read or at least skim through chapters . Gave a few homework assignments that were easy. Participation in class will help your grade. She doesn't accept late assignments. But if you do the work you'd do well.
Great Professor, she has a lot of life experience and she brings it into the classroom to help you learn. The only complaint I have is her grading system. You get a choice of 3 HW grades, Check (80%) , Check plus (100%), or Check minus (60%). You feel like you are in third grade with the grading and theres no option for any other grades.
One of the best classes I have ever had. Really inspired me to work hard. But that is college. Take her
I had Professor Langeveld for Sociology 107 or Social Problems. This class was terrible. It basically is just long quizzes, with a ton of reading, and then discussion questions. She is not responsive to emails, does not grade properly, her directions, as well as the syllabus and when things are due are very unclear. Terrible.
I had Prof. Langeveld for world religions and it was an excellent class. I learned to look at the world differently. Must take her
Professor Langeveld is a phenomenal professor. She really brings the material to life. It's quite an interesting course and I learned a lot from her. Reading the chapters is key for success in this course. If you do that, you should get an A. One group research paper (about 1.5-2 pages per person). Great class, I am looking at taking her again.
LOVE HER LOVE HER LOVE HER
Excellent class! Had a lot of experience working throughout the world!
LONG lectures, no visuals. Just pure discussion. If you have trouble learning by just listening, or are not interested in the subject, do not take. Must read or you will not do well. Chapters are very long. Tests are very hard and wordy.
Worked extensively in Africa and the Middle East. Brings her experience to the classroom. I loved this class. It is not easy, however, it is totally worth it.
Liked this professor as a person but her tests were very hard and her notes were fairly difficult to keep up with. Assigned a group powerpoint and 8 page research paper with barely any class time which I was really not a fan of!
She is an okay teacher but doesn't give good feedback. Notes have nothing to do with the tests because she gets the questions from online. You have to read a lot to understand. As long as you come to class and make an effort you should pass without a problem.
Would NEVER take this professor again. The Couse is called INTRO to anthropology not professional anthropology. Tests were soooooo ridiculous, I couldn't even understand the questions. Anyone that hasn't taken antro in the past DO NOT take her. Totally ridiculous. She was to lazy to make study guides so studying was very difficult.
This women is an absolute gem amongst the riff raff. Loved the class and actually learned in it. Take her if you are interested in Anthropology.
Professor Langeveld is very knowledable about the Anthropology field, I'll give her that, but her classes are boring. She just does a lecture all class and asks questions. There's also a group project assigned for the end of the semester and you have about 2 months to do it.
Very knowledgeable, but very dry and lectures right through. Tough and confusing tests unless you read extensively.
One of the worst teachers I've ever had. Doesn't give good notes at all, and is no help.
In the beginning she was okay but as soon as we got around the time for a test, she did not give us much of a study guide and each question on the tests are paragraphs long. She also gets distracted fairly easily and will stop the class because of the "distraction". Also the group project is strictly worked on outside of class and not in class.
She doesnt give study guides and the exams are long and hard. She would screw up your GPA.
She definitely knows what she's talking about and as a person, she's really cool. Other than that I wouldn't take her again. Her lectures are difficult to follow, monotone, and dry. I hate group projects and her finals tend to be group papers and presentations. If you don't like group work, do not take her.
Professor Langeveld was lovely in my opinion. You have to enjoy learning about religion to take this course, but she always gave you the information you needed to know to pass the exams. Her homework was mostly just reading the text book and taking notes. She was a little plain and monotone, but shes your average/good professor.
I am a straight 'A' student and this class gave me a run for my money. The professor is nice but speaks in a very monotone voice and plays videos in most classes. Tests are not bad 50 MC questions in 75 mins. Assignments are graded like she is an English professor changing your words to ones she would prefer and marking you off for it. Steer clear!
She is good by average terms, shows lots of videos, BUT it's the group projects that hold you back a lot. Especially being online, she puts you in groups and gives you a week to do the whole project and with people working & COVID, it's difficult to come in contact with them, so the class is painful from the projects. Otherwise the class is okay.
Professor Langeveld is very lecture-based. I do not work well with heavy lectures which is why the class was a struggle for me, but as long as you keep up with the readings and take active notes during discussions, you should be okay. I wish she told more of her own stories from her own fieldwork, but overall the content you learn is interesting.
This woman gave me a run for my money to get an A, in my opinion. She heavily lectures, and gives a broad study guide for finals/midterms. She also wants you to read a chapter a week, to which I had never read it once. It's a passable class with her lectures. I suggest studying a lot and always paying attention. :)
As an online class, there is no reason to do online projects, with that being said, 3 of them. No one wants to work together when we are not in an in person class. The quizzes every week are proctored and all based on the book readings. I think even if you read it wouldn't help. She is also not good at handling issues with submissions.
Don't bother taking her for an online class. All quizzes are proctored, based on reading the textbook. Most of the time, reading the textbook won't help anyway. Had group projects, even though we were online (3 of them). She will give you a bad grade, but won't elaborate on why you got the grade you did in her comments.
I absolutely loved her lectures! pay close attention to what she's writing on the board and read the chapters. I am not a good test taker and she worked with me which helped so much I love her for that! Attendance is extra credit! so make sure to be present in every class.
My summer class was quite small, only about five people, so it made a discussion based class somewhat difficult. However, it was manageable. Coursework throughout the five weeks was a research project and three multiple choice exams. Lectures can drone on but they are longer than usual. As long as you're attentive and participate, you'll do fine.
You will be teaching yourself most of this class. She's very knowledgeable but gets distracted and doesn't always finish her thoughts; it's confusing. Her notes on the board make little sense if you don't hear what she said. Graded off of 3 homeworks, 2 tests (with very vague reviews), the final, and the research paper; attendance is extra credit.
By far the worst professor I have ever had the displeasure of working with. She is evasive, elusive, and extremely difficulty to work with. She offered no direction or guidance, and let her students drown when needed guidance. She would not re-schedule phone calls and intentionally misdirected student concerns. She was a nightmare.
my second upload to write more. Her PowerPoints do not reflect the exams, and the proctored tests are unfavorable. She expects you to work in groups and basically "figure everything out" or wing it, most likely receiving a bad grade. She offers no explanation, and there is no mercy. Evasive, elusive, misdirection, careless, watches us drown.
She would put us in groups, expect us to figure everything out. She was unhelpful when questions were asked, and the quizzes consisted of so much material that was in the textbook but she had never gone over. The group research essay was the worst assignment I've ever had in my college career. I regret not dropping the class when I had the chance
If you care about your GPA and mental HEALTH, don't take the course. Very difficult class, coming from an almost straight A student, she will test you in every possible way. If you do not read the entire textbook, inside and out, just forget about your GPA and overall grade in the course. If you aren't a scholar or prodigy, good luck and God bless.
DO NOT TAKE. I took this class as a social science elective and omg It was drop-dead awful. If you are a conservative you will not be welcomed. It is a complete liberal brainwash. Everything she said was very rude and insane. She didn't teach us anything that was on the test. Multiple tests were 50 questions each.
The questions on the tests were so beyond crazy and the answers did not make sense. She wants you to fail. No one would get an A on anything. She grades like it's Harvard. She took a crap on my GPA. She doesn't give us any time for hw or projects. We were given one day for a group project.
We didn't receive any class time for the research project that was so important for our grade. It's not fair that everyone gets the same grade even when a team member does absolutely nothing. If you aren't a liberal she will make your life miserable. She is completely bat crazy. Save some stress and DO NOT TAKE HER GOD BLESS.
The class heavily revolves around group work. The final paper that people are complaining about was switched to a PowerPoint, which was extremely easy when it comes to final projects. Must look over the textbook to get all the info for her tests, but overall is a really good professor to take for anthropology as she connects it to her fieldwork.
Classes were very lecture heavy with very few homework assignments, tests, and small inconsequential group projects every so often, but they are fairly easy. She's very thorough grading tests and homework, which can be nitpicky, but overall it is very easy to get above a 90. She is experienced in her field and great for those studying anthropology.
The class was accelerated but manageable. The topics we covered stayed neutral, which I appreciated. The papers were simple and straightforward, and the discussions were actually thought-provoking without being overwhelming. Definitely a solid class if you want something low-stress but still meaningful.
yeah dont take her. if its a must shes not the worst but she is rude, impatient, and horrible with technology. she locked us out of the textbook for the first 2 weeks. she has a cell phone policy she doesn't stick too but rather she will personally berate you in the middle of class. shes also pretty strange with grading. so yeah, dont take her 1/10
She does group projects in online classes and then gave me a 55 for not doing the entire group project by myself. Her tests don't relate to the lectures at all and her grading makes zero sense. This is the only college class I have ever done poorly in and it's all because of her and her awful quizzes and group projects.
The tests don't match the lectures at all and a lot of the material on the exams was never covered. She gives topics ahead of time but you end up digging through notes to figure it out. The class moves way too fast and it's hard to keep up before she jumps to the next chapter. Regret not dropping out when I had the chance
She encourages discussion and doesn't cold call, but her questions are hard to answer and you always need examples. Extra credit is rare, grading is strict, and lectures are dry. Lots of group work, little help, little to no email replies. I struggled more here than in any other class and I'm usually a straight A student.
no good!!!
Professor Langeveld was very interesting to listen to through the semester, she swapped most of the chapter papers for group power points which made it easy and simple because everyone got one slide and an easy A. She does tests in class which I don't mind but you won't understand if you don't pay attention or read the chapters. Overall an easy A.
