She's great, fun to watch lecture.

makes you enjoy history
You can learn something, but she isn't very friendly.
I love Ms. Rike. I am one of 96 students in her class and she knows my name and is always ready to help. She is very interesting- I'm planning on taking her next semester and I don't need that credit. Her testbook exams are impossible but don't count for much.
Very odd. Her tests are confusing. She is a peculiar sort of person, and though she does infuse history with her own brand of wit and wisdom, I do not really recommend her unless you just REALLY love American History. I DID, but I am no longer a history major due to Professor Rike.
The Gold Standard. Voted the best teacher at NLC. Dynamic, animated lectures. Organized, tough, fair- superb. Not for the lazy!!!
Should have retired in the 60s, so out of it that she is on another planet!
awesome teacher! vvvvery funny. her tests were so incredibly hard, always available if you need help. def not for lazy people-will make you work for a B and slave for an A
she makes history so interesting for you. but she expects everybody to work so hard.not for lazy students. i loved her class so much.
I think if I was taking her for non-credit, I would've enjoyed her class..lectures are very interesting BUT her grading system is pretty convoluted, you're REQUIRED to do what she calls "extra credit" (on your own time),and her tests are sooo misleading.. The kind that asks questions like: 'Which is true?' A&C A,C,&B neither D or B it's like
ms. rike is great , she makes it interesting , just show up everyday dont skip then you get confused, its not easy but it is fun , so work hard, and enjoy i know i did
Unfriendly, odd, lives in a foreign land, she needs help! Stay away from this one
Terrible teacher, will kill your interest in the subject, high on herself, liberal and so correct
Your gonna get a B. Her final project for an A is near impossible. She expects everyone to get a B unless they are going for a History Major. Its an O.K. class though so long as you go everyday.
She was great, but was difficult. You must pay attention in class, take notes, and do the reading in order to pass the class. I learned a lot from her, but if you tend to be a bit of a slacker I would not recommend her, otherwise, she was great.
She is a great teacher but she expects a lot and the quality of work is superior
Great teacher although she is tough Im not going to lie. just go to class and do the work and you will do good.
PHENOMINAL TEACHER!!! Simply put, Ms. Rike is one of the greatest history teachers you’ll ever have. She has such a wealth of knowledge, and a sense of humor to make the most boring facets of history interesting. She isn't extremely easy, but she's VERY fair. The decision is yours... I had her for 3 history classes and absolutely loved every one.
If it's any indication of what a wonderful teacher she is I simply had to send her an e-mail thanking her for a wonderful semester. As other comments here state: you work hard. But with her you WANT to work hard and feel bad if you don't. She truly gets you into it even if you're not a history buff.
Ms. Rike is one of the best teachers anywhere. She's tough, it's true, but her door is always open and if you apply yourself, she remembers. I had her class two years ago and she still remembers my name and has a wonderful smile for me each time.
she was a great teacher, and fun! but you have to work hard, but she is helpful and going to class isnt boring! i am gonna take her again for 1302!
Best teacher i have ever had! she is so intelligent and has a way of teaching things so you remember it! I walked out everyday with new knowledge. She is very helpful and very very fair. She is without a doubt my favorite teacher ever.
Amazing teacher. She loves her profession and it shows. She is incredibly tough on grades and has high expectations. If you love to work hard, take her. If you want a class to fly through, do not pick her. She expects better and going into her class, a person should do better.
THE greatest teacher ever. HILARIOUS!. always has to make some sexual joke out of any historical topic. but she is not easy. textbook exams can be taken twice each, but making an A on those are VERY rare. lecture exams will save you. im not a history major, but she made me love it. just dont expect an A if you dont care.
dude she is really hard, but she is a really good teacher. she has textbook exams and lecture exams. ucant really miss her classes, becuase u have in-class quizes everyday! ...her tests are realllly hard...she makes the questions really tricky with all of the aboves and none of the above type answer choices...but if u really like hist...take her!
She is the best teacher I have ever had. You couldn't get a better history education at any other college or university. She knows her subject and you will know it too by the end of the semester.
I loved Professor Rike! She is one of my all-time favorite professors. As a history major, i love the way she personalizes the subject and makes it interesting. She loves what she does and communicates that interest to the class. You MUST take good notes and go to class every time to make a good grade. She's tough, but well worth the effort!
Fun class, interesting lectures. She definitely knows and is passionate about her subject. She will work with you if you will put forth the effort. Also, she is very friendly as long as you are respectful. I'll be trying to get into her class again for 1302
Very hard class. Not easy to get an A but extremely worth your time. You can tell she loves what she is doing but don't expect an easy A or even a B for that matter.
Ms. Rike is the best teacher I've ever had. I expected a boring, textbook led history class. Instead, her teaching methods are very visual and grading is based primarily off lecture material. She knows how to appeal to this generation of students and is very funny. Her tests are hard, (really hard,) but her in class experience makes it very fun.
ms. rike is a really cool and funny teacher and she does definitely love what shes doing...but the notes are really hard to follow and the tests are extremely hard...if youre going simply for the education shes great but if youre going to get a good grade...i wouldnt recommend taking her class!!
This class was rediculously hard, but Ms. Rike was an awesome teacher. Her tests were almost impossible to pass no matter how much you studied, but the everyday quizzes help alot. She was really nice if you're on her good side. If you're not absent more than 3 times, then you have a chance to get extra points and make up and exam.
awesome teacher very helpfull very interesting makes history very very interesting loved her best teacher ever!!!!
2 quizes per class...majority of grade. miss 3 or more classes...no make up work. test in testing center a hot mess! funny teacher but i learned nothing! never again.
Second time I've taken her. VERY HARD class. Be prepared to start on lecture material the very first day of class. She's very funny and loves what she does. She does let you take tests twice, and offers extra credit at least 3 times throughout the whole semester.
If you want a good grade this professor is a very worng choice. She makes the easy matter very complicated with her "not funny" jokes. If you miss more than 3 classes don't hope to get A or B you will straight get C nomatter how much you study for the test. Test are super hard and confusing and it is difficult to get B forget about A.
This is a hard teacher. She is a bit old-schooled so you're going to have to take a lot of notes. You will most likely fail her tests, but no worries, as just about the whole class does and they don't make up the majority of the points in your grade. On a lighter note, she will make you laugh from time to time.
Charlotte Rike was probably one of the most enjoyable teachers I've ever had, but also one of the hardest. She's funny and passionate, which makes for an easy person to love and a difficult tester. If you're not worried about a challenge, I would recommend Ms. Rike. If you struggle through school in general, you should probably avoid taking her.
HARD HARD HARD !! You hav to do 5 types of exms.1)on clas 2 quizzes per DAY.2)lecture exams3)text book exm 4)oral exms 5)exit exm .Dont take her clas unles u r good at note taking and attending regularly.
It has been a long time since I had a class with Rike, however, she remains vividly in my memory as my favorite professor. In the classic mold, she is heavily intellectual, passionate, difficult, and inimitable. Take her, but you have to earn your A.
Don?t take Rike! I love history?in fact, after I barely pulled a C in Rike?s class, I went and took History with a different Prof. and pulled an A! Not because my understanding of History changed?Rike just gives way too much work and is way too overbearing in personality. She tends to wear see-through shirts and talk about sex, too. She is an odd
Don?t take Rike! After I barely pulled a C in Rike?s class, I went and took History with a different Prof. and pulled an A Not because my understanding of History changed she just gives too much work, tends to wear see-through shirts and talk about sex, too. What?s talked about in class if different from the book. It?s like taking two classes.
I'm currently in Rike's US History to Civil War. It's true she's tough, but not unreasonably demanding. She divides her exams into textbook and lecture, but her textbook exams are worth fewer points so it's possible to do well without detailed reading. She's very passionate in lectures, but sometimes can drag on material.
Charlotte Rike is the best teacher ever. Unless you are stupid, take her class. She makes history fun. Don't expect to get an A if you don't learn the material though. She's so passionate about history, it's hard not to care.
Her class is not easy, and her exams are freaking hard. But she is extremely smart and you will learn A LOT! She is really helpful, and if you want to pass and take her class seriously, she will give you tons of chances to pass, just never miss her class. Best prof I have ever had, I have never learned so much in a class before.
Proff. Rike's class is very demanding but she is very passionate about the subject which makes the class enjoyable. Attendance is mandatory, DO NOT MISS CLASS! She will give you many opportunities to pass but you have to go above and beyond to get an A.
Exams are extremely hard, but they will not fail you. The daily quizzes help A LOT. She's a very funny passionate lady with lots of experience. US history is the only class in high school that I failed, and I got a high B in this class. She makes you WANT to listen, which is hard to do.
NEVER AGAIN! I would NOT refer her to any of my friends or take her class again! She has a nasty attitude and makes it feel like you are still in high school! NEVER AGAIN! Oh and DO NOT sit in the front, be more than a minute tardy or miss 3 days! THE BOOK IS YOUR BEST FRIEND FOR HER CLASS BECAUSE SHE DOES NOT GO OVER THE MATERIAL FOR THE TEST
She's awesome and Funny! She males you want to participate
She is nice but hard. You take 2 daily quizes and never miss more than 2 days or you'll never have the oportunity for extra credit. 3 textbook exams and 2 lecture exams. Read the book or you'll fail the exams, he is your best friend. Exams are very hard, even though you get to take them twice. If you are lazy, I don't recomend her. Very demanding
Her class is definitely a challenge, but she makes it very interesting. Attendance is mandatory!! Note taking throughout entire class is mandatory! If you get behind on anything speak up and let her know immediately.
RUN haha. Dont take her if you have other options
If you enjoy history, she makes it come alive. She loves teaching and the students who try to show interest in the class. She gives every test twice to help everyone pass with the grade they want. There is no homework! She lets you know exactly what is on the tests. It should be an easy grade if you go to class.
boy oh BOY i LOVED dr. rikes class! she really does make history FUN, and cool! she is hard as h-e-l-l... straight up. do not take her class if you arent willing to reallly study and pay attention. and everyone is correct, DO NOT MISS CLASS! she will EAT you ALIVE! THE most challenging class, yet you will LEARN ALOT. dr. rike is da BOMB!
Her handwriting is almost unreadable, but a majority of the time you wont see it. You will need to pay attention and show up. That alone will pass you. If your in for an A, you have to do an annoying end of the semester a paper. But i learned sooo much, and she is so passionate about history it makes her class like watching the history channel.
Take this class! It is great! Ms. Rike is really passionate about History, that means her lectures are interesting. She's always telling great historical stories. I took her HIST 1302 class as well and loved them both. Go to class on time and stay the whole time or you will NOT do well. Her tests are a bit difficult but that?s nothing to worry abou
I highly recommend Ms. Rike. (1301 & 1302) Her passion makes History fun! She grades on a total point system, so if you don?t do well on tests, you have quizzes & extra credit opportunities that can help bring your grade up. I missed 2 tests & still made a B in 1302 bc I had a lot of quiz/test pts. She can teach you how to take good notes too!
Fantastic; Ms. Rike is a professor that I will always consider a favorite, and I would recommend her to anyone.
She is the best teacher you would wish was teaching you in all your classes. She's cool, fun and adorable.......I will take this class over and over again.......
She is awsome! I love going to her class because I know It wont be boring. She is funny and you can tell she loves history. She gives a lot of opportunities to try and pass her class. You do have to study for tests though but its nothing too bad. I now like history because of her!
I love history because of her. She tells history like it just happened yesterday. You have to read the textbook to pass the tests and show up everyday because it will help you pass.
Fantastic teacher. I entered college not caring one bit about history and left her class a history major. I can't say enough good things about Charlotte Rike.
She is very hard..She is very passionate about history and her teaching styles are very interesting, However, she will give you HARD HARD HARD time with those 2 quizes before every lecture and papers. If you miss more than 4 class, there is no way, you will end up with grade C. I took history with other professor, got A.....
Her style of teaching reinforces material so that you will never forget it. She give a quiz before and after class, textbook exams, lecture exams, and in-class essays. Down side is if you want an A you will have to write a 4 page essay at the end of the semester, using only an outline 3x5 notecard. Even if you have averaged an A all semester.
Professor Rike is legit! This class consist of 2 daily quizes in every class(can use notes), lecture/text exams(allowed 1 retake on each) and in class essays(can use notes). Bottoms line is, TAKE GOOD NOTES! This is coming from someone who took both of her classes 1301/1302
She is probably hands down the best teacher at North Lake .. If you have to take any History classes , you would be stupid not to take Ms. Rike!! I had no interest in history before I came into her class and now it is one of my favorite subjects
I had Charlotte Rike as my professor in the early 1990s for multiple history classes and am thrilled to know she is still teaching. She is a wealth of knowledge and literally helped change my life by showing me how to take notes and study properly, which served me well and ultimately helped me acquire a Master's Degree. Take her class!
She is an amazing teacher!!!! However, if you are looking to receive an easy A, don't choose her. If you want to actually learn and feel like your money is not being wasted take her class. A project required for A, attendance mandatory due to daily quizzes. Her lecture is, however, is worth it!
I LOVED HER! SHe's a little crazy, but made history fun!...Not an easy A you HAVE to work hard for an A, but easy enough to get a B...you have to attend class every day..most of the time let's out 20 min early tho! WIll make her again for 1302 for sure!
crazy funny at times (: take good notes! i literally wrote down everything she said and passed her two daily quizzes. Online summaries from past textbooks editions will save you for her tests. 'A' is very difficult, but no homework is great!
Very good teacher, would recommend her to anyone! Even for incoming novice freshmens!
Fantastic teacher, need more like her. Her lectures are never boring, she's pretty wild and funny. Tells lots of stories, good teaching mechanic that helps you remember stuff.Gives you lots of opportunities to get a good grade. Grade is based on a point system. Daily quizzes is where most of your pts will come from. Tests mostly come from textbook.
She needs to be updated on new teaching styles of this 21st century. She grades and keeps records by hand .. She often makes mistakes when grading essays .. Ex. A friend got 10 points out of 15 and Ms.Rike have her a 4 ! This is because she gives back ur grades in hand written paper. You do not get back ur essays to see your mistakes. TEST ARE VAGUE and unclear. She is forgetful and maybe too old to be teaching. She is knowledgable but rude sometimes.
She is amazing. She is very passionate about history which I love and she's funny. I always looked forward to her class! I loved the fact that she was old school.
very interesting lectures. Hard tests though but she lets you go over the ones you missed and retest.
Ms. Rike is a demanding instructor, however the class is not hard if you show up and pay attention. Sit close to the front, and take good notes. Her lectures are funny, and she is very knowledgeable about the subject. Great class!
she is not a good prof at all.....
Love Mrs. Rike! She makes class very entertaining. Her grading is very unique in that tests are worth less than the quizes over lectures in class. As long as you pay attention in class, take notes, and don't bomb the textbook exams, you'l do fine.
Her grading policy is really confusing, throughout the semester I had no idea if I was going to pass or fail. She never checks her email until the last few weeks of the semester, so don't bother emailing her questions. I had high hopes that I was going to pass, but in the end I failed. DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS. She definitely needs to retire.
This is the oldest professor teaching. Her brain is somewhere else. She told me I had an A in her class and a week later she suggested I drop the class because I had an F. She should have retired a century ago.
She is not clear with her grading at all. She told me I was passing her class and I ended up with a D. She also never replies to emails.
You need to show up everyday. She gives you 2 quizzes at the beginning and the end of of class. There's a lot of lecture and book exams. To pass, you need to read your textbook EVERYDAY. She offers reviews for the tests, but not the information/definition. Overall, this was a difficult class and I struggled. Her lectures can be interesting though.
As long as you SHOW UP TO CLASS and ACTUALLY take notes you'll do fine. Needs to update her grading methods as previously stated (does everything by hand on paper) but if you're passing your exams you should be fine. Lets you re-take ALL exams INCLUDING the final! If you fail, it was by your own merits. Definitely would recommend.
Mrs. Rike is a great teacher who is passionate about what she teaches. Class is mandatory as she teaches everything on powerpoint, so not taking is essential. There are 2 quizzes a day which are easy if you pay attention. To get an A you must do a final project, which most don't attempt. Do it. She is older so you must be diligent and pay attention
COME TO CLASS EVERYDAY. The quizzes are easy if you pay attention. She gives you 2 tries per test also if you make a 70 you can retake only what you missed. You will have to read the chapters at home as she gives a lecture test and text book test. There is a final project, I am not the best writer but I got the A.
She is a strict old school teacher. She voided 3 of my quizzes due to the fact that the post cards were the wrong size. She gives 2 quizzes everyday making her class mandatory. As long as you study, show up, and do your work you should be in a good position.
dnot not take her if you are an international student.
do not take her unless you want to work very hard for even getting a B. if you get absent, u gonna loose the quiz marks. so better do not miss her class. her grading is not clear, until the last day of the class, u will not be able to figure out your grades
Okay if you don't know EXACTLY what happened in history her tests are not for you. The wording of the exams make it to where you got to either thoroughly know the material of fail...
Rikes is the type of professor that you have to be in her class in order to pass. Don't take her word on it if you're passing her class, I did and I hardly passed. Make sure you go to her in person in her office to determine if you can continue or withdraw her class.
COMPLICATED LADY, HARD TO PASS
I still remember what I learned from Ms. Rike. She is an amazing lecturer.
