She is not very easy to understand and very picky.
Two labs-great each time. Only reason I did well in lab.
Knows her stuff- doesn't spoon feed you. You may have to [gasp] work to suceed.
Best 111 lab Instructor that GV has
She's a nice person, but she's too hard and not easy to please.
Worst teacher I have ever had. She refused to help me and her quizzes were HARD!
Char's very helpful and super nice!
Char is awesome, down to earth and very helpful.
Char is very nice and helpful! Just make sure you study for those quizzes!
Very good Prof. learned alot. tough but helpful. fun!

Picky but makes material easy to understand. TAKE her!!!!
Always willing to help, tough grader on graphs!! but best lab prof. at GV!!!
Easy Quizs online! Hard and Long Labs, but prof. makes up for them! She's Great!
Very hard class, but she is nice and helpful
Have BIO 112 get Char for lab...100xs better than evil twins
Char is the best Bio lab instructor!! Try your best and get her!!
She makes lab enjoyable. Glad I got her, you will be too.
Very nice, helpful, and funny.Makes class interesting
very helpful, quizzes difficult, but does all she can to help
Char was a hard teacher until i got the hang of what she wanted. She is awesome!
nice lady, hard online quizes and grades graphs tough. makes u understand
great lab prof! Ask a lot of questions in her class, it will help you understand
Didn't get labs back until after exams. frustrating prof.
explains things well. some difficult questions on quizes but good prof
Cool lady! Very nice and helpful. Quizzes not bad, not that picky really
Very funny person, very clear, I learned alot. Best teacher I've ever had!! :-D
Easy lab, good at explainations. Online quizes can be tricky
Switch intructiors ASAP! Makes lab boring and hard. Impossible to get a decent grade.
Char is awesome! Her online quizzes are somewhat tricky, but you can still do well on them. She is very helpful in clarifying anything you are unsure of. Make sure your graphs are exactly how she wants them, she's kind of picky.
Very picky on graphs and has difficult quizzes. Isn't always quick to help if you need it but is generally friendly and uses good illustration/demos to help you understand.
Will bend over backwards and teach on her head if she thought it would help you. Quizzes and graphs arent the easiest but by the end of the year she curves the grades. VERY VERY HELPFUL. Goes over things until you understand them!
Very demanding, sometimes helpful, but treats everyone like elementary school kids. Her tests are curved.
she is a great lab instructor, but her quizzes are very hard. she will answer any questions you have about anything as long as it doesn't have to do with chemistry.
Decent instructor. She knows her stuff, and is very nice. She is willing to help.
Great teacher, very funny but kinda goofy. Online quizes are very hard and make sur eyou do your graphs right but good overall
She is hard and her quizes are not just on the lab but other material which i ****. And she is kinda rude.
Nice lady, knows her stuff like the back of her hand. But, exams are hard! She doesn't give a study guide or even an idea of what exactly to study. So, know your labs super well!
Easy to get alog with. Knows her stuff. If you need help, ask! Lab is long and she uses the entire time for the most part. No study guide, just know lab procedure and techniques and stuff because they can be a bit difficult. Read directions for lab!!
Tests are given with NO study guides, NO review, and questions on the test aren't relevant to anything learned. Snapped at many people in the class, didn't take enough time to go over topics. I would have done much better if I knew what to study for tests
this women can get a little crazy sometime. there's online quizzes every week, and they're tough. Make sure your graphs are done perfectly; she's a hard grader. Wasn't my favorite class.
Easy A if you show up every lab, everything is basically common sense, just show up to the labs so you can get the questions about the visit correct on the exam

Boring, had to memorize lots of useless stuff for quizzes. A waste of my time
her quizzes are insanely stupid and hard. She uses the entire lab time with pointless material. Seems as though she would rather be teaching a lecture than lab.

Her teaching in lab saved my bio grade.
Quizzes were tough and confusing.
Good instructor, tough on quizes. She one the most humorous lab instructors I have had.
Crazy Lady! She grades too hard and is not helpful when you have questions. She doesn't give out perfect scores to anyone in BIO 120, even if you work is perfect.
She was my least favorite teacher this semester. She hates to give out A's. Her quizzes are very hard and she grades graphs very picky. I would get someone else for lab if i were you.
She was a horribe professor. She did nothing to help my grade in lecture and hates to give out A's or B's. Grades WAY too hard on graphs and doesn't help you if you go to her office. Worst prof. I have had. SWITCH if you get her.
She is the most understand lab prof I have ever had!!! she makes the labs fun, and really is passionate about her students learning. great teacher at heart. i really liked her.
HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE. Do NOT take her for your lab prof, especially if your a freshman. She hates to give out A's and grades WAY too hard, especially on graphs. She understands what she's doing, but if you dont and you go to her office, don't expect any help.
Pretty nice lady... really good at helping with experiments... quizes are pretty tough though and she grades graphs crazy hard... however, if you work hard you'll be alright...
She is a good lab professor. She explains everything well and helps whenever she is needed. She is picky with graphs, but if you ask, she will help.
She comes off really strict and seems like she'd be mean, but if you ask for help she's more than happy to answer your questions. Picky on grading graphs and the quizzes sucked, but overall a good lab teacher. I learned a lot from her because she makes sure you understand the material.
Thank goodness for Char! I finally had a lab instructor who I could learn from. Very kind lady and extremely approachable for help.
I definitely would not take her again. She was so frustrating.
I had her for all of my labs in BIO 120, 121, and 215. Shes good at explaining something if you dont understand it and helping out with procedures. Difficult grading. I really liked having her.
Her directions on the lab are so unclear sometimes.
AWFUL!!! super hard grader....has a huge problem with erasing. the quizes are super hard too and nothing comes from the lab manual. if you want to get a good grade in lab make sure you don't get char!!!
She told me one of the first days of class if you are not a freshman, don't plan on getting an A or a B because you have not been in college long enough to deserve it. If you want a good grade in BIO 120, DO NOT take her. Rude, strict, and gives out HARD quizzes.
I had her for lab. I was terrified at first because I heard awful things about her. But she truly isn't THAT bad. She's great at teaching things but she can be unclear about things sometimes. Otherwise, you learn a lot and it is very intertesting! Quizzes are NOT that bad, you do them at home & get to use all your notes. Her lab saved my BIO grade!
This class was ridiculous. I thought that having a lab class was gonna be worth it but I was wrong. Char doesnt know how to teach. Everything she writes on the board is not even on the online quiz. She will explain things to you but she cant explain right. If you have her for a lab teacher drop the class before you fail.
Char is awesome! Super nice lady- quizzes are tough, but she curves at the end to make the average an 80%. She will help - you just have to ASK! Don't be discouraged by what others have written. However, she grades very hard on graphs. Follow all her rules on those! She reviews everythign before class; write her notes down- they will be on the quiz
She's one of the best lab teachers. Online quizzes are kind of tricky, but char is a really good teacher. Her notes on the board are really good. Take her if anyone.
what a cute lady! tried very hard to make sure that the lab isn't confusing, and will work to help you find the answer, not just hand them to you (aka you learn in lab). if you have a different lab prof---SWITCH TO CHAR'S LAB!
Tough! Never really understood what I needed to know in her class for the tests. I did better than I thought, but I wouldn't recommend her because it was a rough depressing time. She is nice and outgoing, but don't expect to get an A often! She does give online 10 min online quizzes every week!
Nice lady, wants to see you succeed. Quizes weren't very consistent and she unfortunately has to be hard on grading graphs. She uses a lot of crutches for remembering things which helped me remember them. She made lab a bit more enjoyable, too.
this lab professor will hurt your lecture grade guarenteed! if you have questions she will not answer them but ask you another question. extremely hard grader when it comes to the many graphs done in class. the weekly quizes are terrible. they are so hard that i rarely passed them and i studied for them. get out of her lab class!!!!
Wonderful Prof!! She does grade hard on graphs, but doesn't have much of a choice. Quizzes online, not too hard if you pay attention. She was always willing to help, and always clarified labs & concepts. May not get the best grade, but you'll leave understanding the concepts!! Highly Recommended!
HORRIBLE PROF! If you are a freshman, you will NOT get an A. Expects work to be perfect, and will lower grade if she sees eraser marks. Compared to other bio lab profs, she is by far the hardest. The worst prof I had here by far. Lowered my Bio grade a lot and my work was perfect. SWTICH OUT WHILE YOU CAN!!!
She really cares about her students. Watch out on the graphs though. Great class.
I had this prof. for lab and thought she was great. Her notes really helped to clarify what was covered in Bio lecture. Yes, she grades tough on the graphs, but if you plan them out on another piece of paper ahead of time, you'll cut down on the need to erase.
Overall, I felt she was a good instructor. Explained labs pretty well. Answered questions at the end of the lab for those who stayed. Her online quizes were not too hard. Wait for the answers to the questions, she bases almost all of her questions off of those. She is nice and pretty fun.
Oh Char! I love her! She is a great lab instructor. She's a tough grader on graphs, but her quizzes are real easy. Take her for lab!
I had her as a lab prof and it was just horrible. She grades VERY harshly.I would hate to tell you what I got on my lab report...if she doesn't like you, I think it shows, and she is also VERY blunt, leading me to think of her as a..you kno...Not very good at explaining things either..
Had her for Lab. she was really helpful. quizzes are online and really easy if you listen in lab. Graphs are a pain but once you understand what she wants they get easier. lab report was tough
instead of lab reports we take quizzes online and they can be hard until i figured out that if you write down EVERYTHING she says then thats what she tests u on, she also has a fun and outgoing personality that makes tramping through bogs all the more enjoyable
Kind of an odd professor. Field trips are really fun. You don't really use the lab manual, but rather take fairly easy quizzes on blackboard which are much more convenient. She does have a lot of spelling mistakes on quizzes though. If you take a quiz, print if off before submitting so you can have a copy to study from for the two exams.
This woman should not be teaching. She cannot answer questions that are in the lab manual, frequently leaves the class behind, and the questions on her quizzes are often worded so that they are completely incomprehensible. Do not take this class unless you feel like being extremely frustrated. She's not a bad person, just... not a great teacher.
Professor Char... She is a very nice lady but a bit different. I always seemed to get stuck in her vehicle going to field trips so I got to know her a little bit better. She is nice to talk to and has good stories. She isn't that difficult if you listen to her.
Professor char is by far the worst teacher I've ever had (Lab)My other friends taking the same lab would get grades 2x as high as mine. Graphs have to be absolutley perfect. She grades the lab reports ungodly hard, I took mine to MS3 center and everything. TAKE QUIZZES IN GROUPS! dont miss lab, ask her questions even though she makes you feel stup
I liked Char. She was a tough grader but she told you from the beginning she was going to be. And in the end she curved the lab grades a ton anyway, so it wasnt really that bad. You can still get an A in lab if you take her. And she is really funny. If you think shes mean its because you dont get her sense of humor.
She's just the most unhelpful prof I've ever had. Don't bother asking for help on anything because she WON'T give it out. If you can switch then do it. Her quizzes are HARD and they don't make ANT sense. She can hardly form sentences on her quizzes. Don't bother with this prof. The frustration just isn't worth it.
She is terrible for lab. Very unhelpful and will not meet with you outside of lab. She grades way to hard and gets upset when student don't get the material. If you can switch I would do it in a heart beat, she 100% sucks.
She is hard and expects a lot out of you. However, she is great. Good sense of humor, and willing to help. Makes what would be a very boring lab somewhat enjoyable. Your grade may look bad all semester, but she curves a lot at the end.
Char is demanding, knows her topic and has a dry sense of humor. She will help during lab, but does not tolerate babies, ditzes, or plagarists. She expects you to be a cognitive grown-up, so if you are looking for someone to hold your hand, find another lab prof. Her quizzes were EXTREMELY frustrating, but I worked hard and got an A in the course.
Labs were sometimes difficult but she would also help if you needed it. If you were willing to learn she was very helpful and willing to do anything to help you understand.
Doing the actual labs were easy but the quizzes were hard and made no sense. I would use all the time i had to look up answers and my average quiz grade was 50%. Shes very picky and tore my lab report apart. I spent so much time on it and got a C- on it. Not my top pick prof
She isn't very helpful at all. She's a really tough grader and has a really dry sense of humor. She isn't a horrible teacher, just not the best I've had. Work hard and spend the time in lab and study for the quizzes and you'll do alright.
I had Char for lab and it wasn't the best.. she's been teaching for a while so she knows exactly what she wants and is VERY picky when grading labs. She took points off because we asked her a question.. isn't the point of this class to learn? She's funny sometimes but I wouldn't really recommend taking her..
She's great! At first you have your doubts but if you get to know her she is kind of funny. Take online quizes in groups and you'll be fine. Field Trips all the time! Tests are not bad
We loved char baby. She's really nice and her quizzes are online so take them as a team and get 100%. Her exams are hard. But the field trips are fun. Ask her bout her horses
I wouldn't recommend taking her; the only good thing is that her quizzes are online (but still, some of them don't make any sense). She grades graphs and lab reports very hard, and she expects students to know the answer to everything. Nice at times, but I wouldn't recommend her.
she's been teaching for so long that she just expects you to know exactly what she is talking about instead of actually teaching it. doesnt use powerpoints/anything in lab, just randomly talks about what you're doing and quizzes over stuff not in book. odd sense of humor and seems to have little patience for questions, though she will answer them.
Not very helpful, can be nice at times but does not really prepare you for the lab or the tests. she expects you to understand everything that she understands. not very helpful.
Char is not a great professor. She seems very knowledgeable but not helpful AT ALL. She goes so fast when explaining what to do and doesn't really explain things thoroughly. I wouldn't recommend her if you have a harder time with the sciences. Take someone else if you can.
Nice, funny teacher. Went on trips to streams/rivers/lakes. I really enjoyed the class and she was a REAL person. You make her mad you will hear it. You behave you will know it.
Took an hour explaining labs so by the time we got started I didn't remember where to start or what to do... the quizes weren't relevant to the lab.. my average score was probably a 6/10.
Ridiculous teacher. Her instructions are completely unclear and then she tests you on it. She does not care about her students, and treats you as if you are dumb (for those non-science major students). I would avoid taking her classes at all costs in the future.
DO NOT take this professor for BIO 120! She horribly unclear at giving directions for lab and she is mean if you don't understand something. If you ask her a question, she will answer you back with another question to make you more confused or just not answer you at all. She is also very disrespectful to students and quizzes were very difficult.
Char really helped clear up a lot of the things I was confused about in lecture. Really helpful and cares about your grade. Easy to joke with, and I had lab at 8am so that's saying something. Easy as long as you do he work, and even if you slack off you'll get through. She curved our final grades too, which really helps.
If you pay attention, try at the work, can take a joke, and come to class somewhat prepared, you should do well in her class. If, however, you are thin-skinned, can't take a joke, and don't pay attention, well I wouldn't recommend taking her class, as she is not shy about calling you on being a slacker.
She's not too bad, you can take her if you like. She does not tell you what you did wrong, but if you ask her she will answer you. Labs were easy to follow. She cleared up anything I misunderstood in the lecture. She grades the graphs hard though because they need to be clean, accurate, and have good wording. Not bad for an 8AM class.
Vanderhoning is definitely intimidating at first, but if you get to know her she is awesome. She explains lab procedures very quickly, but will tell you to holler at her if you have a question. Lab quizzes are pretty difficult (but are online) so take them with your lab group and you will do fine! She curved our grades at the end of the semester.
Okay, so Char overall is pretty awesome, but her class is confusing. She doesn't particularly go by the lab manual and you end up taking the full three hours because she takes around an hour each lab section to do notes, which is frustrating because that's what we have lecture for.
She is an awful teacher. I had her for lab, you don't really need the lab book, she never looks at them, and she tells you what happens in the lab and what to do, just have a paper and pencil and you're good. She can be rude and not understanding but other times she is great. Quizzes are VERY hard and make no sense. Good luck to those who take her.
She explained very little and left you to fend for yourself. The online quizes had questions on them that we didn't talk about during class and weren't in the lab manual. Quite often she would mess up the answers and have to go back and fix them later. Don't expect to get grades back for at least two weeks. Take the quizes as a group.
Grade is only based off quizzes, take them in groups! The lab book is not helpful, but when you are in lab read everything.
Always gave online quizzes that had very little to do with the labs that were performed in class. Every time you ask for help in a lab, it's difficult to understand what she wants you to do. The lab journal is hardly ever needed as the labs were manipulated very often and never went according to the journal. VERY STRICT ON LAB JOURNALS AND GRAPHS!
Lab and lecture do not correlate whatsoever. Char never explained the material and left us to fed for ourselves. Quizzes were poorly written and tested on information we hadn't covered in class. She has an attitude with students that is belittling. Course has great potential just not with Char.
Char was very down to earth. I really enjoyed the lab, however, the quizes were HARD! Mostly fill in the blank with no word bank, and most of your grade is dependent on them. Do not underestimate the work ethic in her class!
She's very helpful in lab. Ask her for help if you need it. She goes over questions in the manual when everyone is finished, and will usually tell you what shes going to ask on the quiz next week. Pretty funny.
Her lab quizzes can be pretty tough. She usually gives hints of what will be on the next quiz each week. It really helps to study for the quizzes. The quizzes are mostly fill in the blank. She is very helpful and will clarify anything if need be.
Lab quizzes are tough. She gives a lot of info on what you're going to be doing in the lab and it can get confusing, but ask her and she'll clarify. She's intimidating but you get used to her
I like Char. She made the lab easier than the manual. My only critique is that the lab quizzes are either not over info in the manual, or not discussed in lab. The quizzes are online, timed and very difficult. Pay attention to every little thing she says in class (sometimes just said in passing to a group) as it may appear on the quiz. Nice lady.
Take as many notes as possible during lab and fill out manual completely. Use manual for quizzes need to study it for exams.
Char is not a good Lab professor. She isn't consistent with grading graphs. It is nearly impossible to get full points on a graph. Her quizzes don't line up with anything you learn in the lab. She is very rude when you ask her a question and is not interactive with the lab like a lab professor should be. One of the rudest professors I've met here.
She is an awful teacher and doesn't go over anything and expects you to know everything without teaching. Do not tske her if you actually want to pass lab.
Quizzes are confusing and some questions you don't talk about in class. DON'T TAKE!
Does not give very good feedback
Great professor. She is always willing to help you; she likes it when you ask questions. Her quizzes are unpredictable and kind of difficult, usually fill in the blank or multiple choice.
Char is the most unorganized teacher I have come in contact with at GV. Her quizzes are unpredictable, have confusing spelling errors, and don't pertain to the places you travel to during class. The exams usually have unexpected information, with fill in the blank or short answer questions. More work than should be for this type of class. BEWARE!
Char was an awful lab professor. She is not at all approachable and is extremely rude when it comes to asking questions. Don't even try to meet with her because it is nearly impossible and she is never available. Went to meet with her once and I left crying. Rudest person I have ever encountered. Also, quizzes do not correlate to anything.
Char was nice enough in Lab, but outside of Lab, she was not very helpful, at least to me. I emailed her 3-4 times with questions concerning quizzes, and I received very vague, very unhelpful answers. She gave very tricky, 10 minute time limit quizzes. She gave very little help and explanation on the lab report. I did better in Lecture than Lab.
I really liked Char, but she gives quizzes that are 10 questions 10 min over information that is not always gone over. She is not very consistent with grading graphs either - I never received 100% on one. Lab report is easy as long as you follow the appendix in the back of your lab manual.
Char is very unclear of what she wants. The lab report is probably the most confusing thing I've ever done and simply because the professor wasn't clear on what she expected of us. The whole semester was a guessing game. She is available by email by takes a long time to respond and is very inconclusive in her responses.
Barely made an A- in this class. She is older and believes it's her way or the highway. She doesn't prepare you for the online quizzes every week so get together with your lab group and work on them together. I STRONGLY SUGGEST THIS! She is a tough grader on the graphs that you sometimes have to do. There is one lab report and she grades hard
Char is honestly the worst prof I've ever had!! Her quizzes are nothing about the material and often don't make any sense. LAB AND LECTURE DO NOT CORRELATE! 0/10 would recommend.....
Char was a terrible professor. I didn't learn anything in this class. She is unclear and seems like she barely knows what she's talking about. The field trips are fun but the tests on them are incredibly specific and difficult considering she doesn't follow the lab manual. Not to mention the spelling errors, dear God, Good luck.
Her online quizzes aren't easy even though you can use whatever information you have. If you read her instructions carefully it's not hard to do well on graphs and assignments, but you need to understand the material. She'll help you if you ask; works much better one on one after a class is over or before class.
Avoid if you can. Char is extremely picky with the weekly quizes and does not care that students do poorly in her class. Be prepared to study the same amount for lab as you do with lecture if you take her lab.
Char is a very nice person but an extremely difficult grader. I work very hard in every class but this one didn't show it. I had a great lab group and as a whole, we didn't do very well. Her quizzes are online and very hard, you only get one chance at them, not multiple. Lab report was a joke, did horrible. You have to study for a 10 min quiz.
Do not take her if you don't have to. She makes it super unclear as what is expected and the quizzes are almost impossible to know what's on them. I worked harder in my lab then I did in the lecture. That shouldn't be the case.
Be prepared for a quiz at the beginning of class each time on the lab you last completed. The quizzes suck because they are very specific and are either true or false, matching, or fill in the blank. There was only one time where we got a multiple choice one. Shes kind of crazy and makes you feel stupid when you try to ask her a question.
Char is one of the toughest graders I have ever met. Lab was horrible, any time you ask a question she acts as if you are imcompetent and an idiot. The quizzes are impossible too, and I think I got a passing grade on a graph ONCE. She looks for things to mark you down for, I swear, even a visible eraser mark. She's off her rocker and impossible
She is such an obnoxious grader and makes fun of you if you ask a "stupid" question. She was easily the worst professor I've ever had. She doesn't care if you succeed or fail and does not explain things well.
Very hard and she does not prepare you for anything
She barely explains grading criteria, grades UNBELIEVABLY difficult. She makes things harder than they have to be. Nearly impossible to get a good score on anything in this class because she grades over nit-picky things.
Very unclear and tends to change her mind. Hardly explains material and the online quizzes are horrid. Feedback is often unclear and vague.
Very tough and inconsistent grader. Quizzes every week over material not even covered in lab. A lab should be much easier than this. If you dare take this class make sure to write down literally everything she says and be sure to have a partner to take the quizzes with. GOOD LUCK.
Char was very nit-picky on grading labs every week and her weekly quizzes were extremely difficult. Definitely take them with your lab group. However she does curve your grade at the end of the semester.
Char is by far one of my favorite lab profs. She has a great dry sense of humor that made lab a lot of fun. We always got out early which was great. Graphs are graded a bit hard but if you follow the guidelines you'll be fine, I always did mine last minute and i always did good. The quizzes are based off of the manual, not the actual professor.
Char is very scatter brained. I feel comfortable saying she taught me effectively nothing. Don't listen to what she says and just follow the lab manual and the class will annually make sense.
Char was all over the place. She low key insults everyone in the class and her instructions for lab were unclear!! She gave my entire class 20-25/40 on a final lab report and didnt gibe you back any assignments until 2 months later so you dont know what youre doing wrong. Also very nit-picky on graphs.
Explanation of the material in lab was not clear at all and my group and I never knew what we were doing. When we would ask questions she was very vague in her answers and didn't help very much. She also made you feel stupid when you asked them as well like you were incompetent. A good thing is that if you mess up she doesn't care that much.
Professor VanderHoning was by far the worst professor I had. I would email her on a Sunday afternoon and I would not get a response back until two weeks later that did not answer any of the questions I asked. Graphs and lab report are graded unfairly. Weekly quizzes are easy if you read through the entire lab manual.
Char was continuously late to our class and would show up unprepared for our lab. She grades very hard, the average on our lab report was a C. Is NEVER available for time outside of class. Her online quizzes would have questions that were misspelled. Dreaded this class every week. BUT, she is a nice professor and provides extra credit throughout.
Char's labs were pretty easy but she's a super tough grader when it comes to the graphs and the osmosis lab report. She also lectures a lot and sometimes you just want to get on with the lab. But, you can tell she loves teaching the lab and she has a good sense of humor.
She is a very dry-humored woman which many people may find rude, but I really enjoyed it. The lab itself is not very serious, but the instructions are pretty confusing. She grades a little tough but it isnt hard to adjust to it. You can leave early if you are finished and some graphs can be turned in as a group, meaning no HW sometimes.
I had her for lab. She is overly difficult. Her grading is INSANE. She is sometimes a bit rude to students; she is definitely not a professor who would say "There's no such thing as a stupid question." She at least has a good sense of humor. I would avoid taking her if possible.
I would not recommend Char to any BIO 120 student. She does not explain the labs well and you are left to figure it out amongst yourselves. Not approachable. SUPER tough grader on graphs and reports. She does not respond to emails, if she does, they are confusing and/or one-worded. Search for another lab professor!
awful.
Char has a very dry sense of humor and sometimes is frustrating to work with but if you just keep asking her a question she will eventually answer it. Lab is easy and just do your work. Most work is done is groups too.
Worst professor ever. Avoid at all costs. She is soooo unclear with grading criteria and graded very tough. Our lab group asked a ton of questions so that we would get things right, but she always changes her mind about what she wants from you so asking questions doesn't help. Makes a ton of mistakes and thinks it's cute or funny. Extremely unclear
avoid at all costs. char is a nice person but she is never available outside of class, NEVER emails you back(if she does its a one word response, 3 days later), and doesn't really know what she's doing it seems. when you ask for help she acts like youre dumb for even asking and she is not very clear on directions or homework criteria. AVOID AVOID!!
You don't want Char for BIO lab. She's constantly unclear in her communication, difficult to get ahold of, and assignments are confusing. She's snarky and will call you out and be directly rude to you with no rationale. If you sit in the front of her class and laugh at her dry humor, you can get on her side a little. Overall do not recommend.
DO NOT TAKE. Explanations for labs/assignments are very poor. VERY rude when you ask for help or clarification. Did an assignment w/ her, had her check, said it was 100%, turned it in the next class, got half the credit. Doesn't know what she is doing! Lost the entire class's graphs and we all got 0's for a lab. Keep track of your own grade!!
I am in in her Biology 120 lab. This professor is unreliable and uncommunicative. She also does not answer your question when you email her, and if she does its 2 word answers. I would not take her class if possible.
This professor is very unclear when it comes to questions that are being asked. She never sticks to the same answer and is super hard to get a hold of outside of class. She never answers your emails and if she does it is with 2 words or less. I would not take her again and if you take her for lab prepare for it to be completely independent.
She gives zero directions and everyone was completely lost throughout the semester, hardest grader ever, she will tell you she wants something down a particular way, but when you give her what she wants, there is always something wrong with it.
I went to her office hours, asked a valid question, and then laughed at me in front of my classmates. The class itself isn't hard, the issue is her. I can't tell you how many times I've woken up on a Sunday morning to an email saying we have a pre-lab quiz due that night. I would call myself a very capable person, but Vanderhoning makes 0 sense.
AVOID AT ALL COSTS. She would tell me there was no need to do certain parts of a lab and I would ask two or three times to make sure I did not have to do them, then after I turned it in, she marked me down for that very thing. She is extremely rude and called out students in front of everyone if they were doing the lab wrong.
Char could be pretty vague on what she wanted, not good with technology either. Make sure you completely follow the graph rules posted on her syllabus. You can turn a lab in early and make corrections before its due which is nice. Some prelab quizzes were annoying but manageable. I think ppl reported her bc she was suddenly nice at the end.
So, I find myself to be a good student, and I did get an A in this class, but barely. I would email her about an assignment a week before it was due and wouldn't hear back until the day before or even the day of. She also didn't explain things at all and just expected us to know it. Definitely find a study group!
So, this professor is the worst professor I have ever had! Unclear expectations, horrible grader, unprofessional, and never responds to emails. I have an A in organic chemistry lab and a A- in an upper level physics lab, but I almost get a B- in her lab? She is an extremely poor professor, change class if you can!
Really disorganized, and really hard to understand what her expectations are in lab. She makes no sense. Basically winged her whole class because no one knew what we were expected. She's funny though, she has very dry humor so unless you don't like that then probably don't take her. I'm surprised I passed.
Tough grader and is unclear on weekly assignments for what is due and when its due. Can take 24+ hours for a response. Shes sent up to 5+ emails at a time for changing assignments around. Can be very sarcastic and not very forgiving on homework. You need to be in contact with her often through email and in class if you want to do well.
Prepare to be spammed by emails. She will send out multiple one sentence emails at a time weekly. I believe the record number that I counted in one day were 7. I think it's ridiculous that a university professor is allowed to do this when every class is online and it is important to not have a cluttered mailbox. Otherwise, she is a tough grader.
Wouldn't wish this prof on my worst enemy!
