If you love yourself, dont take this course with her. I truly feel that Dr. Vines does not care about her students. During the transition due to corona virus she added work onto the syllabus despite concerns from students (including a nurse). Also she offered 10 points extra credit on the final that no student ended up receiving.

I am taking her BIO 4388 class during the summer semester. She expects you to know every detail about your reading. She does not provide lectures, all of the work is based on the book. Some questions aren't from the book and she expects you to have knowledge about anything and everything already. Would not recommend this class at all.

Most of the comments that rated her 5.0 are false. She is tough. I took her during the spring semester and barley passed. Her tests contain real life questions so you have to understand every detail in the book. She will breeze through lectures and expect you to know everything and beyond. If you must take her class, READ THE BOOK TWICE.

There was ONLY TWO extra credit the whole summer 1 section and it was part of the final. You need to read the book if you want to pass, Dr. Vines even said that it takes about 12 hours to get through one chapter properly! You have to write 3 question quizzes from each chapter and then take a quiz the next day. You need to dedicate a lot of time.

This profesor is terrible. No lecture, no PP, not even an outline of what will be on the exam. All she wants you to do is read the textbook and expects you to memorize it and understand it cover to cover. Tests use respondus browser. Do not believe all the FAKE good reviews. No extra credit. Save yourself the stress.

Absolutely a lie of a teacher. She does no lecture online, and youre expected to learn multiple chapters in 1 week. She was no help, and Ive requested her help but she has yet to get back to me

Honestly, pretty disappointed with this class. I love and enjoy physiology but to see me fail for the first time was truly disappointing. Mind you Ive Had As in all physiology classes. Shame. She doesnt care and gives you so much to read. Not very helpful and does not provide lecture

Officially my first drop at UTEP. Shes absolutely a nightmare. Broke down with so much anxiety. Doesnt care for the students at all. The reviews on here are a joke. She gives no extra credit or any help for that matter

I hope a lot of people drop summer 2, maybe she will realize how awful she is as a professor. What a waste of time and money. Ive spent the last 2 weeks reading the textbook, highlighting, having anxiety and still failed the exam. Do not take this professor you will regret it. Theres no lectures, no help, and def. no extra credit.

I just dropped the class. She is awful. Worst class I have ever taken at UTEP. Questions on the test do not come from the textbook. How is anyone supposed to answer clinical questions by just reading the textbook. Theres no lectures or extra credit. You have to read 50 pages or more per day and write 3 questions for homework.

Don't believe any positive review on this website, this is the worst teacher I've taken in my 4 years in this university. She is extremely disorganized and will do anything in her power to make the course more difficult than it already is. If you have to take it, be wary. If you don't, do yourself a favor and skip this. Her class was extremely difficult because she didn't provide any help to students. She did not provide any lectures or reviews to prepare for her exams. Expected students to learn on their own by reading a chapter out of the textbook per DAY.

Worst class i have ever experienced. DOES NOT give extra credit, no lecture. Relies solely on the book. You literally have to read the chapters at least 3 times each. Hardest professor at UTEP. The good reviews are FALSE. The test are extremely difficult and she does nothing to make this class less miserable.

Professor Vines is TERRIBLE, UNORGANIZED, & INCONSIDERATE. No extra credit, no reviews, NO LECTURES. She isn't a professor because she doesn't do anything other than expect her students to read A CHAPTER PER DAY. For the final exam review she essentially said to re-read the book. Professor Vines should not even be considered a professor because she does not teach. You have to memorize every single sentence and figure from the textbook and come exam time there will be nothing you read on it. First class I dropped. WORST "TEACHER" I HAVE EVER HAD. I used to read the book for 30 hours week and I still fail the exams (I also sped additional hours studiting what I read), She is crazy and makes you feel stupid when you ask for help. I spend so much time and put so much effort and the exam are not even about what she told you. THIS CLASS IS TURTURE. SHE DOENT CARE

I took this class based off the easy reviews. The class was nothing what I expected. Extremely tough, NO extra credit, the exams are on lockdown and only open for 1.5 hours which is how much time you need for the 50 questions because they are tough. Save your GPA if you dont need this class, dont take it. She is a great professor, just tough.

I had the unfortunate luck of taking this class when only Dr. Vines was teaching it. It is clear that Dr. Vines prides herself on making this course as difficult/stressful as possible for no reason especially a useless course like mammalian physiology! Please look after your mental health and avoid her at all costs. Take literally any other teacher

Dr. Vines class is extremely hard when it doesn't need to be. My counselors were shocked when I had told them she made the class more hard than my organic chemistry courses and I bet that she is somehow proud of that. I got an A but it affected my health more than any other class. I suggest to wait a semester she isn't teaching to take this class!

One of the worst teachers I have encountered. She is very rude, doesn't know how to properly teach, plus makes this course as difficult as possible. Like seriously, pick a struggle! Shes the type to say it all depends on dedication or slack but makes it nearly impossible to learn mass information with no time or help for her overly difficult exams.

Do NOT waste your time or hundreds of dollars for Dr. Vines course which is completely useless outside of a pre requisite. Her class is way more difficult than O- Chem, biochem, and neuroscience combined which is NOT a good thing for those who need to hear it. Take it at NMSU or even Sul Ross State University with a better quality professor.

Vines is everything wrong with the educational system. Her exams are as difficult as someone in medical school which isnt a good thing for most people in undergrad. You wont retain anything because she mentally drains you and have nothing but traumatic memories in her class. Missed many family events I wont get back due to her bad difficult exams!

Took this class in the summer and I can't express how much I regret it. I couldn't even enjoy my own sisters wedding because of the amount of stress her exams brought me. Words can't express how much personality and mental stability I lost during her class. I have never felt this much anxiety as I do now. Idk how she can think she's doing us good.

Dr. Vines never answered emails, did not give study guides for the exams, and practically expected all her students to study at least a few hours a day in order to pass her class. I'd encourage anyone taking her class in the future to start studying from day one and to annotate in her lectures. It's a LOT of material to learn in just one night.

THE WORST, no reviews and each exam has 5+ chapters. She says the exam will only be where we left off in class but that's a lie. also if she hasn't finished a chapter she will speed through the PowerPoint in order to count it for the exam, because she "technically" covered it.

I did NOT struggle in this class because I'm "lazy" or wanted things handed to me. I struggled because, despite hours of studying, Dr. Vines put things on exams that we haven't covered yet or AT ALL! It isn't fair that my grade is hurt by content she says shouldn't be on the exam. It's carelessness on her part yet WE get affected!

Course is difficult! Several issues that hindered my learning experience: Lectures were not effective in aiding my understanding of the material. She read off slides, often rushing through them without providing context/explanations. One major concern was the discrepancy between the material covered in lectures and content tested on exams.

Terrible professor, take someone else if you can. Reads off of slides. Exams are completely different. If a chapter does not get covered, she will still include information from the chapter in the exam.

Dr.Vines is a Nice lady, but Does not believe any type of guidance! No study guides, no extra credit, rushes through lectures to just put more material on her exams, all her exams are self made and have many grammar errors, exam will have question not covered within the recommended material.Only graded on exams. Recommend another professor!

Vines is truly an evil person. I passed the class with a C but I lost all respect for her. Her exam structure makes it nearly impossible to do well in class. Idk how she sleeps at night knowing how many people have to tell their families graduation is cancelled because of how odd of a person she is when it comes to teaching. Worst person I've met!

If you need this class, consider switching to microbiology. This professor is tough tough. Half the class failed, and most others got Cs and Ds. She grades hard and makes mistakes on exams. I've never struggled in a class as much as I have with Dr Vines. She's made it her life's mission to make this class as difficult as possible for no reason. Her lectures are useless, she rushes over the slides so she can add the information to the test not so you can understand the material. This is UTEP, not Harvard, why is the class so difficult?

Horrible professor. Vines is a wonderful woman. In class however... She literally failed a pregnant woman for having to go to a check up on an exam day. She attempted to make us sit in a waterlogged classroom. Her powerpoints are incomplete and she rambles during lectures. Her exams often have wrong answers and are only corrected weeks after. Baaad

Overall horrible, please study and read a lot otherwise you will not pass she also makes it difficult with attendance there is no wifi in her class. It is only based on exams, step needs to step it up and hire other professors to teach this course.

Prof. struggled with the material, lectures red directly from PP. Complex subject, not only due to the complexity of the topics, but more so bc of a lack of effective teaching, lack of explanations or real-world clinical context. Students were frustrated & struggled to follow the material & pass.

Completely lacks any sort of consideration. She is rude and condescending towards students. I signed up to this page just to write a review on her. The worst part is that you cannot avoid her as she's the only one teaching this course. Awful. Also, she's not as funny as some people claim. She made me chuckle one or two times, I'll give her that.

Material in this course is not difficult to grasp. Use YouTube videos to help me. But wow she knows how to make it unrealistic and unreasonable. She confuses rigor with cruelty and has no compassion. She's as if an m&m looked and smelled like one, bitten into was a rock. She's the gatekeeper for utep to medicine but she slams that door on so many.

im assuming you are here because you HAVE to take her class (rip). make sure you READ THE BOOK, and REVIEW the lectures. i never studied before this class but had to lock in if I wanted to pass. you'll have an exam every 4 weeks, the final is cumulative. be prepared to make this class your entire life this semester.

Dr. Vines is unorganized, harsh and mean. This class is hard but she makes it even harder. She doesn't care about her students all she cares about is her lab research and make students know that she's smarter than anyone. Her TA isn't helpful at all. TA took forever to answer an email. Overall Dr. Vines makes you feel like you are not smart.
