Fun and energetic. A pleasure to have for class.

seems to think everyone is an art major, tests are hard, bonus quizzes up grade
sweet, hard tests, big vocab, thinks everyone is an art major

GREAT PROF! MADE THE CLASS A PLEASURE-HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
thank god for bonus points
greatest art history teacher ever!!!!!!!!
She is a raging feminist which is really annoying, it isn't important to the class. Her comments are not based in fact only her own opinion. Her facts about the art pieces are different then the book's. She thinks she knows more then anybody else.
She presents and tests on her opinions not facts. She fumbles up the dates of the art she shows us and is very unclear. She reads to much into the art and believes her opinion is 100% correct and no one else's matters.
nice lady, but too sure of her own opinions. the tests are all about what she thinks. she messes up the dates, and it is worthless to buy the book other than to look at the pictures. easy class though...
Has very high expectations of her students; expects everyone to be artistic. Quizzes are easy though.
Great teacher. If anyone does bad in this class, that person is just lazy. Go to class and you'll do fine.
I had Dr. Deka for Overview, and it was way too hard. It is called overview for a reason! He went way too into depth with the topics, and the tests were way too hard. No way
If you're an idiot or a slacker, then don't take a seminar with Wellman. The assigned text (After Modern Art, by Hopkins) was torturously verbose. Aside from that horrible book, I liked her class.
nice lady. awesome teacher... very fun. not boring. not a hard class if you listen and study. better than the other art history profs i've had.
shes an intellectual and assumes you are too. she tests you on stuff you studied a few weeks ago and have forgot about. she is a bit spastic, but kinda nice. hope your a quick notetaker, cause she doesnt slow down, and often leaves out information
kind of ambiguous, and talks fast, but makes art history as fun as possible...and when i say fun, i mean least boring, cuz its impossible to be fun...try to stay awake, try to go to class....mckelvey is ****
i think its cool to have such an energetic teacher. too many teachers are dull and boring, u know going into her class that its going to be an adventure.
She has problems communicating and doesn't present the lecture in a coherent manner.
Dr. Wellman is a wonderfully quirky and eccentric woman. She is everything you want in an art history professor. She is so enthusiastic about art that it's hard not to enjoy listening to her lecture.
so smart, but forgets that students are just starting to learn, goes very fast, it is better to sit and listen rather than try to write it all down, hard quizzes, but gives bonus points and small writing assignments to balance it out
Don't get me started, i wouldn't be able to stop. This woman is a menace to everything holy.
Charlotte is a wonderful teacher, she makes Art History very interesting, and provides additional information on a varity of subjects. Anyone who likes learning should take her. Not only is she a fun teacher, the class is fairly easy if you pay attention.
Excellent professor! Her classes are interesting and fast paced. She presents herself as extremely intelligent and passionate about art. I would definitely take her again.
She is soo cool! Look out though. This class is fast paced and requires lots of studying (if you don't know anything about art history.) TAKE LOTS OF NOTES!! and review them a little bit each night. You'll be fine.
i agree, enthusiastic.. definitely not easy, but if you study you will be alright. you are going to learn something but be prepared. i am a little afraid to take her again because of the work but what the hell she is interesting
Amazing. She's interested, knowledgeable, and demanding. Dr. Wellman, thank you.
sometimes shes a little disorganized. shes also lenient on being absent, and lets you make up your tests. you definatly need to study or pay attention in class, because her tests tend to be specific, but thats all youre graded on.
fun and interesting. shes very passionate about art and wants you to learn as much as possible. is always open to questions.
Weird as hell, but very clear and intelligent. One of the few professors who knows exactly what she's talking about.
If you're looking for an easy core class...this is not it. Take intro to music or something. She's fast paced, but if ya go to class and pay attention...it should be alright.
DR. WELLMAN IS A WONDERFUL PROFESSOR WHO IS VERY INTERESTED IN HER WORK. YOU DO NEED TO ATTEND EVERY CLASS TO GET GOOD GRADES. SHE TELLS YOU HOW TO STUDY AND GIVES OUT STUDY GUIDES FOR EACH EXAM. SHE ALSO GIVES EXTRA CREDIT.
i never thought i would enjoy Art History as much as i do, and i owe it all to Dr. Wellman. her classroom is so fun and open, she presents facts that would otherwise be boring in a fun, fresh way. she is my favorite professor at EUP. she's a wonderful teacher who makes me excited to learn more.
I tend to fall asleep in class sometimes since the lights are off 99% of the time and we are in a big lecture hall. She's still a great teacher. The tests are all multiple choice - 4 exams, no final exam.
The most wonderful woman i have encountered in my life
She is awesome... knows what she's talking about...and conveys the info really well...although i think that some info is irrelevent to the piece at times. Her grading system is nice...bonus quizzes that average to your final grade...its not 10 pts to the grade its 10% to grade assuming you get 10s
got tired of talking about why women are oppressed in the world. wanted to learn about women artists not why in society we are screwed because we dont have on. I already knew this so lets move on and learn about the art women have created.
Awesome
She is so dynamic in her lectures and really gets into the passion of art. Her tests are ok but the classes are pretty neat and you actually learn how to look at art, not just know facts. I'd take a class from her again without a doubt.
Prof. Wellman is a bit of a nutcase sometimes, but in a good way. She gives you details that you can really remember...but be sure to study for her exams, because they're hard! >_<
One of the best profs at EUP. Interesting and funny. Makes you have the same passion about art that she does. Take any class with her that you can. She is very intelligent and knows her stuff.
Dr. Wellman is very hot. NO, she's simply beautiful...a beautiful angel and a great teacher. If I could only be half the woman she is! Great class, great teacher, I highly recommend it:)
Wellman is hawt. She's very into the lessons, which is really good. You won't ever fall asleep in that class. However, you really do have to study for the tests.
Awesome teacher! You NEVER get bored in that class. She definately knows what she is talking about and is super nice. I will definately sign up for her for the rest of my art history courses.
Very helpful and such a wonderful professor
Being that I was a former art history major, I took her basic western art history class. Got A'a on all exams, and bonuses. However, recieved an F (!) because of attendence ( I missed about 4 weeks total). That is ridiculous!!!
I love this woman to death. shes fantastic. study for her tests and otherwise enjoy the show that is her class. you will be entertained.
Her class is a little on the difficult side, but I feel is worth the effort. This was a fun class too! You learn a lot about the crazy kinds of art that people do today.
Very interesting person, definitely read the book and you will be fine. Talk in class and she will remember you. Test structure is weird and she does a lot of "pick the one that is false" questions, but usually she is a good prof.
She is a wonderful and brilliant teacher. Lectures are very interesting but the quizzes can trip you up sometimes. I would take her again and again.
Do I even need to say it? If you have any amount of intellect in your brain, any passion for history or art and a sense of humor, class and professionality: Wellman is your is your woman! She is the pinnacle of genius! LOVE HER!
i love her.
wonderful and interesting, makes the class exciting and fun! be sure to take good notes. tests are difficult due to the subject matter, but wellman, is awesome for giving extra credit.
I seriously love art history because of her. One of the most interesting classes I've ever taken. A really animated and knowledgeable professor!!!
charlotte is wonderful. she's very engaging and genuinely loves what shes teaching. her lectures can range from esoteric analysis to stand up comedy. one of the most intelligent teachers on campus, if not the most. she's not very easy, but she's the best.
She is the most confusing, incoherent professor of all times. She floods her lectures with words that you have never heard of. I looked up a few later to reveal that they weren't even real words. She leaves me angry because i am more confused than informed & have to teach myself and try to prepare for a quiz with nothing on it covered in class.
Charlotte is a goddess - she's brilliant and is so very dedicated to her studies - She makes me want to better myself and LEARN LEARN LEARN!!! She's not east I guess - but she could be - I mean I pulled a C in her class but I was slacking so I don't know if "hard" is the way to describe her class. Anywho she's awesome and theatrical and funny!!
She is the only art history prof that brings art history to life! She is so smart and talented! You must take her class!
I had her my first semester for overview of western art history and she was a fantastic professor. In fact, I am so excited that I could fit in another course with her this spring. So nearly three years later, I still think she is one of the best at EU.
I normally hate history, but took it because I like artwork and sculptures. I figured it still would be a boring class. It was anything BUT boring. I appreciate her making it fun. Plus, she's a cutie. Could wear something other than the long dress (like a skirt or a nice button blouse..but very cute, none the less).
looove this art history class...this woman really knows her stuff. An interesting, cool-eccentric feminist professor. Love her taste in art!!! Take this class any day.
she is the most amazing woman i have met at Edinboro! she is very easy to talk to. she knows more about art and art history than anyone i've ever met and she loves to share her knowledge with anyone willing to listen. after taking other art history professors i've decided that i am only taking her art history classes from now on!
she was such a wonderful intelliegent woman...you can learn a great deal from her, i took all the classes she taught even though i didn't need them
smart women. great classes
I think that this woman is crazy as well as all of you who actually like her. She sets you up to fail. She thinks that she is teaching to Harvard grad.s and no one can understands her. I thought that I had an extensive vocabulary, but this woman uses words that aren't even in webster. She is aweful and very critical in grading.
very unclear when giving material to give notes
if there were more teachers like this the world would be a better place. (dont take her if you dont really want to put any effort into the class though)
Awesome teacher! Made the material interesting and was very humorous. If you think she's tough and unfair, then your a lazy student who needs a reality check that it's college! This teacher challenged me and I ended up leaving with an A but more imortantly, an education! Take her and you won't regret it!
It's tough to take this class first thing in the morning... 8 am and sitting in a nice warm dark room looking at slides with a lecture. But it's interesting and Dr Wellman is a very intelligent professor. The tests are INCREDIBLY hard though.
what an amazing professor! she is so smart and interesting! Her quizzes get harder as the semester goes, but she is very fair! She is so nice and willing to come in early the next class to let you make up a quiz and will help with anything you need! I HIGHLY recommend her! First ARHI class I came out of feeling I had actually learned something!
Very knowledgable. Typical crazy art history professor. You pretty much have to determine what is important when taking notes. If she says it more than once, WRITE IT DOWN! Tests are multiple choice, can be difficult. The dark room is hard to deal with, even at 11am!
I'm not an art major, but i enjoyed this class. i learned so much from dr. wellman. she is alittle crazy... but she is very into what she does and knows so much. the tests aren't hard if you are prepared and she has reviews.
Extremely brilliant professor. Very eloquent and clear, expects college students to perform as college students should. Overall, the brightest, most eccentric professor the Art History department has to offer through integrating both creativity and academics in a provocative way.
Possibly the most intelligent woman with a delightful flare of creativity on the Edinboro campus. You are just plain stupid if you do not get anything from her classes. They are enriching and are meant to influence you as a person and artist outside of your classes. Also, has a wonderful sense of fashion!
Her tests are uber hard and you don't know what to study. I wouldn't reccomend her.
Dr. Wellman is a teacher who truly cares about her students--I had a rough semester and she helped me as much as she could. She's funny and incredibly smart--a true college class, so don't go in expecting to simly regurgitate material. She's vague on purpose because she wants you to LEARN!
If you don't want to fall asleep during class take her. Definitely keeps your attention. Gave good reviews before exams.
Great teacher, full of energy, keeps me focused. Yes, the tests will be hard if you don't plan to study, and if you don't plan to study maybe you shouldn't be in college.
Reading some of these reviews I'm upset, I was in two of her classes this semester and for both of them she always sent out a review sheet, or the slides she was gonna put on the test, maybe people should just study more and actually go to the class they paid for!! Great teacher, recommend to anyone!!
At first, I wasnt sure about her as a professor. Let me tell you, that changed quickly. She truly loves art history and that come across in her teaching. She is funny, energetic, and interesting. This was definitely my most favorite art history class I have ever taken. I highly recommend a class with her!!
Dr. Wellman is hands down an awesome professor. Now matter how boring the material may seem (minimalism anyone?) she'll make it exciting and interesting. Her tests really aren't as hard as some are making it appear. So long as you attend class, pay attention and read you'll be fine. She's rather generous with extra credit as well.
Had her for late 20th cent. art. Hard tests, but very informative class. Disappointed with her bringing her political bias into the classroom though. Very brilliant woman. Doesn't answer emails very well.
She made me really enjoy going to Art History. I always can pay attention and I never catch myself zoning out. The class flies by and I feel more intelligent when I leave.
Honestly she made me hate my own major and switched majors because of her. I studied very hard and always refereed to the book and still could barely past the tests. shes crazy and not in a good way.
A little on the coochy [sp?] side, but a wonderful professor. Be sure you take good notes in her class and keep up in the text book come test-taking time, since tests can be a little on the hard side. At one point, she gave us all 5 extra points on all our tests to help us inprove our grades. She wants you to succeed! TAKE HER FOR ART HISTORY!!!
Very articulate and doesn't hesitate to expose you to some erudite language. A great teacher with an obvious passion for art. She should be hosting NOVA specials on art history.
I'm not an Art major, this class worried me. But Dr. Wellman made it 100% enjoyable! She knows her art, and knows her history, as well. She engaged us, encouraged us, was available for help. I'm a business major, and I got an A. Loved her - but be aware - you will have to THINK to do well in this class. Pay attn, always do the readings!
Hard, but totally worth it. Incredibly helpful, interested in her students, and one of Edinboro's best. Cannot recommend enough.
She is a squirrel and art is her nut. Dr.Wellman is a bubbling wellspring of information. Along with art historical knowledge and critical thinking skills, your speaking vocabulary will improve significantly in her class. No one should go through Edinboro without having her.
If you have poor memorizing capability DO NOT take her classes! For this class all of her quizzes are fill in the BLANK! She will talk the whole class and expect you to write down every thing of importance but she will get side tracked and you will get confused and be unable to understand what is important and what is not!
She expected you to remember everything, i even studied and could not pass the test half the time, however her test were only five points and the large grade were project, so if you did good on those you should be fine. Read the book and do not miss class, you will be lost
When I had her freshman year, she was great. Now, all she wants from you are creative projects that take up as much time as a studio class. Her final project this semester is to create an exhibition on stuff from the class. The work required for it is ridiculous. Funny part about it was during Freshman year, she hated grading creative projects.
She doesn't do tests anymore. She only does projects and quizzes. Her instructions are vague most of the time and if you email her a question she is very condescending. Her lectures are all over the place but if you listen you'll do okay on the quizzes. You don't need the book. Her final project is also aimed at art history majors. Avoid her.
required textbook VERY EXPENSIVE and never used. quizzes are made up of little hard to remember details. she changed the requirements of the final project the day before it was due. class aimed at senior art history majors and if you are not that you will be lost.
She no longer gives tests. Only small quizzes that have little details that are not easily remembered. She also does papers, but even when you do them correctly, she grades them weird so almost nothing you say works for her. She changed the final project requirements the day before it was due as well. Overall, very disappointed with this professor.
Charlotte is very passionate about art history. She gives small quizzes at the end of each section. I see where she comes from in thinking this is a good idea, but I never got higher than a C on them. Her class in enjoyable, however the final project was bigger than any of my other studio projects, which should never be the case for a lecture class
As an Art History major I have had Dr. Wellman for 6 courses. You will never fall asleep in her class. She specializes in contemporary art and womens' art (yes, she's a feminist). She despises tests and will not give many in her upper level courses. Instead, you will do PROJECTS. She is a brilliant and hilarious woman with an extensive vocabulary.
Wellman is awful. This is not a studio class, it is an art history. Someone needs to remind her that art students don't want more art work to do, especially when the guidelines are unclear and the assignments are irrelevant to class material. Just give us an exam like a normal professor.
Will avoid Wellman at all costs. Her 'projects' are drawn out and there are NEVER clear guidelines and she will email you 10 times a week changing how to do the project sometimes even the morning before its due. Work is long and tedious and very stressful at times. The only good was she only gave 5 pt quizzes once in a while.
She is very passionate about art history, which I respect. However, her tests are AWFUL. They are all over the place. I came to class every day, studied all my notes, her powerpoints, the book, etc, but the grade I got was always a crap shoot even as a 4.0 student. You can study A,B, and C, but she'll ask about G, Z, and X. Hard to really prepare.
Dr. Wellman is a brilliant woman. Very well respected and knowledgeable.
Wellman is highly intelligent, egotistical, and unorganized. She assigned various art and writing projects. Be prepared to read, research and work hard.
I respect her knowledge on her subject. If you're an illustrator, you simply will not connect with this class, though. It requires a certain amount of lunacy that a more objective person simply doesn't have. Also, creative projects in a lecture class? Really. . . ?
Get this in your head now: your opinions are wrong if they aren't similar to her's. If you think a sculpture or painting makes you think the artist feels the opposite of what Dr. Wellmen thinks, then you're wrong. Also, she realizes this is an intro class but she speaks to you as if you're an art major. Outside the scope of the class.
She can be very confusing at times. She contradicts what some of the book says. I did not recommend her to any of my friends, i didn't like her teaching strategies AT ALL and she puts her test on a projector so everyone has to work at the same pace.
I took this class because I was told Dr. Wellman was a great prof and is quite knowledgeable. I agree with the fact that she knows her art history info, but it ends there. She is very passionate about the subject, however, the way she taught and created tests was ridiculous. The tests are on Powerpoints and the q's were opinionated. Do not take.
I have never met a worse professor in my life. I signed up for a history of photography course, and I can honestly say I have learned NOTHING except that White Males are horrible people. I have been keeping a tally point system in my notebook for the past two weeks. She has said 8 things relevant to the history of photo, and 638 things unrelated.
You can tell this woman adores what she does. She can be goofy but you do learn a lot from her lectures. The only con to her is that you sometimes cant find the correct answer in her exams because you do not know what to write down in your notes.
Very knowledgeable and passionate about the history of art. Her teaching style takes some getting used to, but after taking many classes with her I can say that I learned to love and appreciate art a lot more. You definitely need the books to do well, but she always puts them on reserve in the library so you don't have to buy them.
Shes cool.
Can be ridiculous in expectations. Not leaneant in outside circumstances.
Professor Wellman is passionate about subject matter, but tends to not let her students think for themselves. Be sure to know all of her thoughts and opinions she shares about artwork, because she will expect you to repeat them on the test.
Shes passionate about teaching, but Im not a fan of her style. The test questions were based on very specific details. It was hard to get as much information down as possible while trying to keep up with the lecture. If you miss any minor thing, you risk getting a bad test grade. Also, we never used the book.
Honestly no other way to study for this class other than just really paying attention to her lectures and taking good notes. Test questions include a lot of detail about pieces of art that she briefly explains in her lecture. The powerpoint slides arent all that useful.
If you know nothing about art, take intro to music for artistic expression because that guy has good reviews. Given about 6 projects, with way too much to ask for a gen ed. Expects all her students to love and understand art like she does -- I'm a math major so I do not. She's at least nice and open to meeting outside of class and emails back fast
Her online teaching was decent. Very PowerPoint and lecture heavy. She also uses a lot of information from the textbook on tests that she doesnt mention in powerpoints, so if you dont like reading dont take this class. Overall, its not the worst class Ive taken. She can get a little bitter and snappy with students. Shes alright though.
Dr. Wellman is interesting to start off. Shes like that wired aunt you never see at family gatherings and when you do your told to stay away from her. Her class is easy if you pay somewhat attention and look at the presentations. Also, join the discord as they will be a huge help.
I had Dr. Wellman for Overview of Art History. It was pretty easy, but be careful. You are only graded on a few quizzes so make sure you are well prepared for them. Her audio PowerPoints that she posted were the most helpful to use to get ready for a quiz. Overall, the class was pretty interesting.
Dr. Wellman is something else. If you can, dont take it with her. Half the stuff she has said has lead to contradictions and incorrect facts. She uses survey texts the majority of the time (said to me in email), and has mispronounced gods names. And unless you have accommodation paperwork, get ready to hand write your notes.
She can be informative, but her ideas are somewhat old-fashioned. My first Wellman course, she spent 20 minutes on a transphobic lecture of a statue, and has rough ideas around gender. I had three classes with her, two of which ended being project-based rather than test based, so make sure you have time for extra projects.
She was nice, but she was a terrible teacher. She would talk about absolute nonsense and nothing on the slides was on the test. Some of the test question answers were subjective or seemed like it could have more than one answer. I would show up but would work on anything else I could, trying to pay attention was a true waste of my time.
