Very helpful. Is always available for any student anytime! Just go over material and practice. Would take her again or for any other class!
I feel so lucky that I had her as my professor I learned a lot from her and she really cares about her student. Highly recommended! I would also take another class with her again -
Very helpful, caring, approachable. Respects all her students and goes out of the way to make sure they are comfortable with the concepts. Highly recommended!!!!
Taking Prof. Rana is the easiest way to get an A in Finance. I took this class with another professor and Failed. With Prof. Rana I got an A. Her class average is a B which is higher then any other FIN3000 professor out there.
nature has been changed over the semesters !
She is a decent professor. She makes the effort to explain things if you need it. Just read the book before class and you should get an A. She is a sweet woman, but don't piss her off.
shes hard to understand because of her accent. tests are hard and her final is radically different(which is suppose to be cummulative) from her her midterms so you cant study from them.
Put terms on tests which was never mention in class!!!
she is all over the place but if you have any questions, she'll help you. she will do anythign and everything to help you out. she can be confusing but generally good. tests are easy if you read the book and study what she tells you. KNOW CONCEPTS and you'll do fine
exremely helful even in the exams, but the exams are killer which she always tells from the first day. just got the result and average score is around 70. u have to work hard to get good grade but she is very nice and helpful. heard that she will curve at the end of the semester. some HWs which can be handed in on the FInal exam day as well.no rush
She acts like she is easy and you think test will be easy to , thats where she gets you ,don't belive here she practist test is nothing like real test so you get scrud!
she is english is bad ,and she is all over the class, in the test she comes around and help if she feels like, and if she comes to her sence then she act totally like crazy, stay way dont take her
I got a good grade , but i would not recomend her, stay ways from her, disaster!and you really don't want to be in that class......
stay away !!! she is the worst! her english is bad and she just all over not ogranized and simple do not take her class!!!
she not only encouraged me to study harder but gave me a life long lesson of not giving up and to believe in myself. I got 58/100 in MD1 and by final I scored an A-. all because of her help& encouragement. exams are tough, but if you know the concept you will be fine. she focus on imp points way too much and thats what comes in exams..Best!!!
ALRIGHT CUT IT OUT PEOPLE.WHOEVER WROTE HORRIBLE ABOUT HER, PROBABLY DOES'NT EVEN KNOW HOW TO STUDY,WORK HARD AND EARN THE GRADE.SHE DOES EVERYTHING POSSIBLE TO HELP THE STUDENTS.YOU JUST HAVE TO ASK HER.SHE TOLD FROM DAY1,THAT EXAMS CAN BE TOUGH.READING THE BOOK AND PRACTISING THE PROBLEMS IS MUST.&CHECK YOUR ENGLISH BEFORE SAYING STUPID ABT HER
she is tough but friendly. tells clearly from day one that hardwork is required to get a good grade. answers email in odd hours, helps during the exam. stays after office hours.. what else can you ask from a teacher. but dont make her angry. exams are tough if you have not read the book. Take her if you have a little bit drive to work hard.
She is okay. Three exams20%,20%,40%. 1 presentation(10%), attendance(10%) First and second are easy(Do the practice questions, read the book twice)Final is a little bit harder.Exams format: 20 multiple choices questions(10 conceptual questions are tough and other 10 math problems are easy) and 2 more calculation problems need to show process.
guys, so far so good she is not such a bad Prof. fin 3000 is a hard course no matter who you take it with. I will advise you to read each studied chapter2-3 times, practice as often as you can, go through her practice sheet, thats how you can pass. Her exams are very hard trust me. this is one way you can succed in the course
Agree with the comments below.I would recommend to take this professor. In comparison to other finance professors who are teaching at Baruch, she is pretty easy. Study hard, listen well and you will get an A as I did.
First and second exams are easy. Probably you can get 80-100 if you study. But final is not easy. Even you study, you only can get 60-80. be sure to bring cheat sheet which is allowed..
She is nice. But she would like to keep department allowed average C. Therefore, half of students will get bellow C+. Her exams are not tough, but you need to study. be top of the class, you will get an A or A-. otherwise , you will get C OR C-. GOOD LUCK
She is very nice prof and knows how to teach.. but she does follow the department guideline and give a lot of C's and C+'s..
She is not bad, and teaches in a nice way, but the grading does not seem to be fair. I was definetely heading towards the A (96 and 97 on the two midterms), and I think I did really well on the final, but she gave me a B+... And she never responded to the email about what was my grade for the final exam. She really follows the "C average" rule!
If Baruch is bring in teachers like her, then god save the College and save the students.
One of the best finance professors at Baruch. She likes to throw in some tricks, but will let you know beforehand. Go to class, read the book and practice the study guide q's. Come prepared because she will put you on the spot. No HW, two midterms, a group project, and a final. She's extremely helpful inside and outside of class for career advice
If you wana waste your money, than take this professor..she is inexperienced.. hope you will understand what I mean!!!
ok. she is not that bad but, u really need to study for the exam. read the text! that's the best way to avoid her trick on the exam. she puts some bogus info on the exam question just to trick you and i also heard she really follows department grading policies. that means only 1 or 2 people will get A in her class. good luck with that!
Avoid her at any cost. she does not know how to teach.. she is like new kid in a block.
I can understand how others feel. I did good but I worked hard. The calculations are easy at beginning of exam; straightforward. It is the conceptual and 20 point questions that get you. I found her samples extremely helpful. Yes you can not take this class lightly. People say bogus stuff on exam? I found it all relevant though to be honest.
i wont say she's a bad teacher. she reiterates whats in the textbook, which you should definitely read thoroughly cuz her accent is very thick. the problem is, she goes over countless calculation problems, as does the textbook, but then the exam is multiple choice concept based. you have zero prep for these problems so you're pretty much screwed.
Decent professor but a tough grader. Prefers hard working students. Results from first exam will shock you into working harder. My advice: study the book and do ALL of the end chapter questions. Conceptual questions on the exam will be the toughest. For the 20 Pt questions, read VERY carefully. Good luck! I recommend her because she's helpful.
Sometimes she's really good, and other days she's really bad and you can tell she hasn't prepared the lecture. Often seems like she doesn't want to be there or her head is somewhere else. Rushed us into a project (gave us 2 weeks. Exams are hard, but fair. She's not the best and not the worst.
She is AMAZING. I LOVE FINANCE BECAUSE OF HER. IF YOU DONT STUDY AND UNDERSTAND THE MATERIAL THAT'S NOT HER FAULT.
20% Midterm 20% Midterm 40% Final 10% Presentation 10% HW&Attendance. Review questions and the test are 180 degrees different. Midterm & Final are 20 multiple choice ques and 2 Short Answer ques. Super hard course. You'll never get A unless you're genius.
Attend all of her classes and take notes of what she writes down (mathematical) and what she reads off of the slides (conceptual).Use them to make a nice 1 page sheet for the exam.Textbook is not needed but is recommended. Exams are 20 Multiple choice (60 pts)and 2/4 math questions(40 pts).Group presentation are easy.Take her trust me. B+ reachable
She is bad. My classmates wanted to major in Finance and now they changed their major. She is all over. She doesn't explain clearly. she start a sentence and never finishes it. she has an attitude towards students. the class is useless.Study on your own from the book. i can't stress enough how useless is coming to class and how unfair grader she is
She make the material more difficult then it is. She make it as it would be an advanced finance class. If you can study on your own, you can take her. But i just wasted my money and time on this class. What's the point of coming to class if you have to study on your own because the teacher is just useless.I got a fair grade 'cause studied on my own
I am taking her course right now. Material is ok.. as long as you read the textbook. She does not use slides, which I think makes her work much harder but better for students. She does problems in the class. I would say her exams are slightly tricky but there is space to improve and she does curves. I think its a good choice to take this class.
This is definitely not the easiest class, but professor Rana makes every effort to translate complex concepts into understandable terms. The two midterms were quite reasonable and the final was satisfyingly challenging. Don't know my grade yet, but pretty sure I wouldn't change my rating no matter what. Take her.
just took the final today, easier than expected. but i did study a lot for the class. awesome professor, gotta attend class because some of the stuff on the test are not from the text directly but from her lecture. She's very helpful and understanding, always hold extra office hours for students. take her!!!!
The best finance professor hands down! She teaches by writing on the board instead of using slides, which is extremely helpful. I suggest that you read the book before going to lectures because it goes hand to hand with the examples she does in class.I'd still take her even if i got a bad grade because I'm actually learning and enjoying the class.
saying your brain hurts is not an excuse in this class. drink your morning coffee and pay attention. let her finish her thoughts before you ask questions. pay attention to chapters 5&6 and 9&10&14. if you don't you are screwed. recorded presentation, so make sure you're in a good group. NOT a waste of a weekend morning class. it is worth it
If you didn't take finance before, don't take her. She knows her subject well, but can not explain it. Professor with an attitude. She follows C+ average requirement. Exams completely different from HW.
She is a very knowledgeable professor unfortunately she lacks teaching skills. She seems to be annoyed by students who ask questions. Her tests are definitely tricky. Every students should come to her class and listen very carefully. Most importantly, if you take her class be prepare to study on your own.
She is a very knowledgeable professor but can't teach. If you want to learn finance don't take her or be ready to study on your own a lot. She gives homework but some of the questions she never covered in class. She is all over the place.
2 midterms n both suck. Her exams are confusing eventhough u read book n feel confident, exams are really tricky n tough. It seem to me her exams are based on failing student.Only if ur born intelligent take her class otherwise average and hardworking student will pass but with C.
Don't take her class.GPA will definately go down.Even after her curves people tend to fail. Her second exam that she said; would be easy was mad hard.
Beware of her teaching and her exams. She makes thing sound hard eventhough it's simple. She not a bad professor but like others said she does not know how to teach. She fouces mainly on problems and calculation, whereas her exams focuses more on conceptual question.
I understand why there are many bad gradings as this course is mad tough. She is not bad the way others say. Its unfair to her. I have learned a lot from her. She has stayed after class just so she can help me. I worked hard I followed what she told me. Its a big class and lot of students distract her.follow her advice. It will help!!
Do not take this professor. She will curve the grade but that won't help you. You will be studying on your own and reading the book just to barely pass her class. Two midterms, group presentation, homework and final.
Stay Away from her.Trust me i worked hard for this course but i landed up with a lowest grade. She lacks the ability to teach. Her practise set for exams are totally opposite of exams. If u take her class then be prepared to study on ur own.Best of Luck.
Prof Rana is really nice and caring of her students. She doesn't use ppt but more so the old fashioned way of writing on the board during lectures which keeps people attentive. She does better in smaller classes than big but the course itself is hard w/anyone. She teaches in simple terms for us to understand however the tests vocab is complicated.
Terrible!
Don't understand her when she speaks.
Prof. Rana's exams are tough but she cares a lot. She explains in simple words. Read the book and take notes during the class. Hold extra office hours. One has to work hard in this course. I got only B but I learned a lot from her. I will take her again because she pushes to learn. Her exams tests the understanding. Lot of multiple choice
Prof. Rana is knowledgeable, however she expects her students to know everything by heart after she has explained the lesson. Her method of teaching contradicts the expectations on the exam. She teaches in plain words, but asks very complicated questions on the exam. If you dont know much about finance, take another professor!
Prof Rana is the best professor I have had ever. She puts everything into teaching. She uses board vs. using slides and that makes her work very hard but she explains in simple language.Yes her tests are tough but it is a tough course and she tests on what she teaches.I have never cared for any course the way i do for this only because of Prof Rana
Horrible professor and her teaching method. If u may avoid taking her, DO NOT TAKE HER!!!!
DO NOT DO IT
SO bad, I can't even begin to explain. Literally, like wait till next semester if this is the last prof. left YOU WILL BE BETTER OFF
2 midterms, 1 final, group presentation & homework.read the book before the class, listen to lectures. take notes. She is very clear to tell main points during her lectures. And if you decide not to follow any of the above then please keep your mouth shut as others like me want to learn and there are some who just complain and mean and waste time.
Does not hold extra hours. Must meet with her after class, only time she's available. She is easily frustrated with the class when asked questions about her midterms. Does not review her exams. Her practice tests are nothing like her tests. Very unprofessional, picked up her bag and walked out after students queried one exam!!!
I can't say why so many bad ratings but I liked the way she taught. It is guaranteed she is not the easiest professor but she really want us to learn. Isn't that the reason why we are going to college? And she stays after class to help students who want to learn.
I'm an Honors student and did bad in this class. She wants to teach but she doesn't know how. She's a nice person but does not distinguish positive from negative, therefore her lectures are pointless and confusing. Avoid if you can, study hard and ask for help
She is a great and knowledgeable professor. All the bad comments are from students who are just lazy and are trying to get a good grade without putting any effort. This is not an easy class in general, so you need to read the textbook before coming into class. It's not just about showing up and having things laid out on a silver plate.
OMG SO LIKE SHES SO GOOD OMG OMG OMG
Bro take her if you know whats good for you. Then again... you might not know whats good for you...
A good professor won't get so many dislikes. She has no clue how to teach and on top of it there is a Departmental requirement how many A how many B she must have. Has rude attitude, especially if you challenge her with a question. Not clear: lectures-speaks to quiet, board writing-too tiny letters, horrible English. STAY AWAY IF YOU CAN!!!!
Very rude to her students, rolls her eyes and makes rude statements. Her exams arent half of the material that she covered in class.
She will break you if your head isn't in the game, but if you put in the time she makes the material incredibly worthwhile. I signed up for the class resentful at having to take it and left regretting I didn't choose finance as a minor. Absolutely choose Rana if you can handle a heavy course-load and are an independent learner.
Professor Charu means well. She clearly is there for teaching and helping students. Unfortunately, she does not know how to get her point across. Lectures were dull, not very organized. Read the text book and go to her for questions. She is there when you need her, other than that she is not a great professor.
During semester starting first few classes are easy and everything she explain seems easy and fine. but as time pass by and students start to ask more questions' then she usually get lost and then tell student to ask her after class. During her own exams she gets lost with her own questions and cannot put her point across.
She isn't a good teacher because she doesn't know how to pass her point across efficiently. It's chaotic. She looks overwhelmed trying to explain a concept (especially, when you ask her questions). It's as if she's trying to explain something that's impossible to understand, which then makes you as a student overwhelmed. Good luck with her exams.
Top 3 of the worst professors I've encounter in life. She is smart and knowledgeable, however, she is a failure as a teacher. Prepare to do a lot of study on your own. Might as well take an online class instead. 2 midterms and one final plus homework. Exams are tough and different from homework. She has a horrible attitude you'll see. Avoid her.
My easiest class this semester. Giving her top point to balance the recent negative grades. Yes, I taught myself, I didn't care about her lectures, but her exams were absolutely fair and consistent with the text. Got 97 on both first exams without paying any attention on what she said in class. The final was easy, too. But the grade is not up yet.
The material is not that difficult, if you take this professor you had to rely on yourself a lot. She did not like to answere students questions during lecturing. Although she is not a very articulate professor, she gives a difficult exam, there a quite enough time for homework. I recommended her if you can work on your own and bear her attitude.
Prof is very helpful and wants students to learn on their own to certain point, which is really good way to make student actually study because these students who commented about her are totally unreasonable, these students have never studied, She teaches everything and especially wants students to conceptualize the subject matter,People take her!
If you study a lot on your own you'll do good. As a teacher she is almost useless, you won't learn much from her. Her exams are tough In relation To the poor lectures she provides. Gives enough time for homework. Has a little bit of a bad attitude. If you have the time to learn the material on your own A First B- in my life. study more!
She is very nice on the personal level I have found her to be very approachable. However, she is very disorganize when it comes to her lectures, jumps from topic to topic causing unnecessary confusion. I would have liked the class if professor would get a grip on the lecture schedule and organize the structure a bit more efficiently.
Prof. Rana was generous when it came down to curving test grades, and her explanations were clear, however sometimes they could get a little confusing because of the organization of the topics covered. Not many hws and gives two weeks to complete. 3 exams in total, which count for 80% of your total grade, and 20% hws.
She is very smart, very knowledgeable and easy with the homework. She gives 2 mid terms and a final and get ready to study your ass of for them, or you will not pass. She does give a curve but even so, those tests are hard. Be warned, she is easily frustrated when students ask her questions, and hates to repeat herself. So take many notes.
One of the hardest classes I have ever taken. Prof. Rana makes you work for your grade. Her lectures were really confusing, but you'll miss a lot if you don't go to class. She is easily annoyed by questions. Read the textbook on your own & study with others. Do her sample tests, even though they are way easier than her real exams. Avoid if you can.
Awful! She is not qualified to be professor at Baruch! What a shame. She does not know what she is talking about and have a very limited knowledge in Finance.
Use connect to practice. Practice on your own, she is very confusing. read the chapters at least 2 times before the exam and practice the math problems from the textbook and her sample exams. You'll get an easy B+
Please, don't take her! She is the worst professor I have ever took! This is important class so, don't waste your time and your money on her!
If you take this professor, I recommend you get a group and do some self-studying the whole semester. lectures aren't helpful at all. She is a very nice lady though, she will try her very best for you to understand the material. Also gives a generous curve (8-10 pts) on her 2 midterm exams.
