Unfortunately this teacher can be lazy. He showed up to class late everyday and never got papers back on time.
Yeah, he is late often for a teacher. But hes actually pretty cool.........the only tiff i have is that he messed up on my grade.....but i will admit he fixed it......hes not that lazy in fact i would reccomend his class to others if they want to take a good law class.

Looks like Mr Clean
I think he is a great teacher. And he is a cutie. He is very passionate about his work. He sometimes takes a long time to get papers back to you, but give the man a break...he has a little kid and he is the Men's Basketball Coach...his plate is full.
Che is probably the coolest teacher I've had at Highline so far. Hope to have him for more classes.
nice guy but kinda lazy seems kind of shady, seems smart but almost like he doesnt care about his job more about coaching his stupid community college basketball team its not even a real team
Great Teacher! Absolutly amazing in teaching details and how to remember them. Will stay late to help you in any situation. Would love it if every class was taught by him!
Smart, intelligent, and a good guy. He covers material deliberately so pay attention. He does anwser all questions. Homework was generally easy and so was the grading.
He is a great teacher who really cares about his students. You have to work in his classes though. coming from someone who already has a BA: one of the best teachers anywhere. People who think he's "lazy" make me feel sad for them because they won't know they missed an opportunity to learn from someone brilliant!
Che is a great teacher, with a laid back style, whom insures that we enjoy what we learn and are able to apply it to real life.
Che is a great leader, enthusiast, inovator, inventive, classy, superb, well rounded teacher, with all the attributes you could ever want from a teacher. He really does care, and goes the extra mile in order to help you succeed. All the while he has his own LLC practice, teaches Basketball, and the law,who else could balance everything so well-che
This professor is LAZY, and has no pride in teaching. He lacks character and integrity, so it makes his class hard to like. He needs to stick to coaching, which he thinks he's good at.
greaaat teacher! this is one of those classes where you learn so much without even realizing it. he is very funny and extremly helpful. super nice, but blunt. only test we had was 2 quizzes in the beginning of the quarter, midterm, and final. and his final and midterm are extremly easy! definitely recommend him
Felt he was very clear on his expectations from his students. Encouraging when it came to listening and understanding others perspective. Gave good feedback when asked for help.
Knowledgeable and personable, Prof. Dawson keeps challenging subjects interesting. Slackers should find another class, though.
Che teaches with enthusiasm and a huge knowledge base! His style is clear & easy to understand. Che tells you exactly what's going to be on tests so there's no surprises. You have to keep up, but it's well-worth it! You will learn TONS if you apply yourself, open your ears & listen, read, take notes and study! Che's a dedicated, earnest educator!
Constitutional Law taught by Che really gave me a clearer understanding of our US Constitution, what it means and also that it's constantly being interpreted! Che taught in an organized, clear, and all-inclusive fashion. Very open to questions, encouraged open thinking, imparted TONS of information! LEARNED LOTS! Great Final Testing Style! AWSOME!
Che taught this course to prepare students for their internships. It was fast-moving, interesting, informative, self-introspective, and helpful! Che has great enthusiasm for all his courses! Anyone negative did not apply themselves & received low grades due to their own lack of care and NOT to Che. Che is dedicated to teaching & coaching at HCC!~
Che designed this class to help students make the most of their internship experiences, and it works IF students work the program! He designs assignments to make students think and listen and to help them figure out what they want to do with their law careers. Che cares! He's intelligent, approachable, organized, and cool! I'd take more with Che!~
I didn't take his normal class (legal) but a half-quarter College 100 seminar. He really cares and is passionate about what he teaches and is good at engaging the class.
I have taken every one of the classes that Che teaches- He is a passionate teacher and it shows in his teaching. Not much homework, and he prepares you completely for mid-terms and finals. He is very engaging, knowledgeable, and always open to debating things within the class. If you have a chance to take a class with him-DO IT!
If you have any interest in law, take this class! Che is super chill and makes learning fun. He will challenge your beliefs but always make you feel heard. He gave final exam questions out a week early. In class discussions are very engaging. Take this class!!
Great teacher, made law interesting, gives you exactly what is on your exams so you can study the right material, I learned a tremendous amount about law because of this class.
Not an easy class but not extreme either. If you pay attention you will learn a lot if you blink you might fail. Enjoyable class but not for slackers!
Took Immigration law & Issues. Great Class met Mon-thurs. Take notes everyday will help you for quiz's that are due each Sunday and their is only 5 each quiz, easy question if you paid attention in class and showed up everyday. No homework assignments or book work. Group discussion due on Sunday as well not hard just your opinions about 1hr videos
Immigration Law and the Rights of Non-Citizens class, was easy. Pay attention and take notes everyday. Every week you have a group discussion on a certain relative top chosen by che and a quiz that opens Friday and both due sunday on canvas based on your opinions so no wrong answer. the quiz is only 5 questions. The final is 50 questions so study!
Cool teacher, has a good sense of humor and will answer all questions asked. Classes are mostly lectures but still covers all material pretty well.
Very informative. Really keeps it interesting. Makes you work for a 4.0 but if you do the extra credit and all assignments you should pass.
Mr. Dawson is a great teacher. He knows his material about Immigration Law. He is very energetic and enthusiastic to teach. There are weekly discussion boards and a 5 question quiz. He does not give out much assignments aside from the discussion board and the quiz.
I never quite hit it off with professor Che like some of the other students, which was too bad. Professor Dawson definitely knows his stuff and is a fair professor. If I recall correctly, attendance is not mandatory but he will make it hurt if you don't show up for class.
He gives great lectures. There is a good amount of issue discussion and not all policy (may only apply to DGS 166). Most of your grade comes from weekly discussion boards and a weekly quiz. The quiz is annoying because it is only available from 6 pm to midnight on Sunday (it's super short though).
My favorite class of the quarter. Che was great.
Took Professor Dawson's Introduction to Homeland Security class and I've learned a lot. One discussion a week and one quiz. One Midterm. Great instructor!
He warns you about how much of a tough grader he is when it comes to his weekly discussions, I just thought that MAYBE since I passed all of my writing classes with 3.7's or higher I should be fine. WRONG!! He takes spelling and punctuation very serious, if you're a person who few typos expect a zero even if your thought process is AMAZING!
Bro listen, yes his class is hard and makes you reconsider why you are alive but seriously, he makes it at least painful as he possibly can. He goes out of his way to help his students the most he can.
Professor Dawson is the BEST law professor out there. He knows his stuff and is passionate about it. I had to work hard in his class but it is worth it! I looked forward to his lectures and he brought up real life situations that connected to what he taught. He is very experienced in the legal field and overall a well respected, funny professor.
Che is a very respectable person. He has a lot of stories to tell and expects his students to try. Reading is very important and will contribute to your grade so do not blow off the assigned reading. His finals are also better than most. He doesn't make it a test but rather hands-on and a lot more fun.
I can't believe it's taken me this long to find this site and rate this professor; he's easily one of the best professors I've ever had. He's extremely well-informed on Criminal Justice, he's very funny, he treats the class like adults, and he's great at listening to and responding to questions. The class was tough, but his teaching made it great.
This was an online class for me. If he says he will not accept late work he means it. But you have to work for your grade. He gives timed quizzes and it leaves me a wreak each time, but with a lot of reading and preparation I was able to do it! I would take this class, it was challenging. Immigration looks different now!
good teacher, makes assumptions about you, don't cover ur head, ears, or sleep during class or its over
Professor Dawson is a really great professor. His lectures were very interesting. However the quizzes were really hard. You have to answer 10 questions in 10 minutes, although they are true/ false they almost sound like trick questions. making back points in the class was hard to because there are not very many assignments aside from the quizzes.
Solid instruction, clear lectures, clear expectations, helpful materials, great discussions.
My 4th class with him, He is one of the best prof's I've had. Harsh grader, but always fair. He gives you the tools to ace everything. Also lots of extra credit to make up for mistakes. Class is not about memorizing, but showing critical analytical legal thinking. Likes playing devils advocate. Gives amazing advice both for classes and general life
Top professor, hands down. In this class you will read, think critically, and learn a lot. My only regret is that it was online but the content/ course/ modules, were structured very well and it was a great online class, better than most, would have been amazing in person!
The course was was graded on weekly quizzes and discussion boards. He invited good speakers to talk on related topics. Gave opportunity for extra credit. He encouraged us to provide thoughtful feedback. He's careful to give objective feedback.
Prof Dawson is extremely smart and his experience makes for a very interesting class. He gives a variety of material that makes learning interesting and cares about conveying important concepts that you will use in your life. He also had great incite, guest speakers and focuses on the most important issues to be learned. You work but he's very fair
He is a great professor, he is very respectful, inspiring, and intelligent. I really appreciate his hard work to make us fully understand everything about the topic. He always encourages us to think and improve ourselves. We are very fortunate to have a legal professor like him at Highline College.
I have taken all my legal courses with Mr. Dawson. There is a reason for that, he is a great instructor! I have enjoyed all my classes with him. I have learned soooo much from each class. Thank you for a great year Che!
This class was the most fun and easiest class I have taken at Highline. The course is straightforward and done through Revel which almost feels like a game some times. Professor Che had forgot to lock the class so you could only do couple topics at a time but the class was so fun and I got carried away and finished the class within couple weeks.
Great lecturer. Easy to understand. .If you cant do well in his classes you cant do well in any other
Professor Dawson is highly knowledgeable. His lectures, coursework, and reading assignments create a cohesive program. Immigration law is technical, but Professor Dawson made it interesting and fun to learn. He's easy to talk to, gives great feedback, and provides a positive learning environment. High expectations in grammar and critical thinking.
He's a really great instructor. He's honest, down-to-earth, and gives good understanding of how to help students the best way he can. I think he grades fairly and allows for different interpretations when it comes to arguments.
Mr. Dawson is by far the best professor I have had since attending Highline. He defiently knows his stuff and he makes all his classes interesting and informational. I try to take any class that he is teaching, I highly recommend him!!
Che is a great professor. This material is hard if you dont have any background law knowledge. At some points there is a lot of reading to do. Book is expected to buy or rent but I hardly opened it. This class would be WAY easier in person than it was online.
While classes were difficult, then again, the law was challenging. I love the fact that the professor had a lot of sources and offered a lot of examples. Yes, he is a striker for spelling and punctuation, but in the end, I think it is to benefit us there for yes, I would take his class again.
Professor Che Dawson knows his stuff, so come prepared. Make sure you read, and learn the material. You will have a quiz at the end of the week, but he gives you plenty of time to study for it. Overall, he is very fair, and gives you lots of materials, so you learn the subjects in his class.
Professor Dawson is a good professor. Some of the modules had a lot of resources (videos, articles, textbook) required for being able to take the quiz and answer the discussion posts. He does offer extra credit that is accomplishable. I would recommend taking this class.
Lots of reading, but the reading is actually helpful. Outside of reading and small quizzes, no crazy hw or group assignments. Great class and great instructor.
Che Dawson is very knowledgeable and engaging. I appreciate his approach to online classes/lectures. Not every online class requires mandatory zoom sessions and excessive homework for students to learn. Much appreciated!
He makes everything super simple. Just be sure to read all the material and take notes.
Mr. Dawson is organized, clear, and approachable. He goes the extra mile to correspond and meet in person. I highly recommend his courses. Units are neatly packaged into reading assignments, a professor video lecture, and a series of curated digital resources to enhance the textbook reading. Syllabus was on the money, fair assessments.
Very helpful when you ask for it, went to his office hours weekly and even though i was not doing so well in his class he still helped me understand everything that I was stuck on. There are weekly tests and assignments each worth 30/35/40 points so make sure to do well on those.
I don't know how hes like with in person classes but his online class is awful he just makes you read from the textbook then a few videos to watch and then you get a weekly quiz and discussion. Pretty simple but you're basically teaching yourself since he doesn't really do anything which just seems like a waste of money and time.
There is a lot of reading and videos to watch. One homework and one quiz a week, but the quiz is based on all the lectures and readings provided, could be a bit tricky but overall it was not that hard. As long as you are reading the information, you will pass.
Professor Dawson posts lecture videos along with articles, websites, and videos that go along with each week's immigration topic. The lecture videos are easy to understand. There's a discussion board and a quiz each week, as long as you do all the work it shouldn't be too hard. He also gives an extra credit opportunity at the end of the quarter.
if you want to die of stress take this class
Professor Dawson is amazing and I highly recommend taking a course from him. Everything about the class was inspirational, clearly laid out and helped me see the bigger picture regarding the way our government works. He always provided thoughtful feedback, and was available during office hours for discussions on the material.
Che was an amazing professor. Some weeks can be a lot of reading but I think this is standard for Legal classes. He has recorded lectures for every chapter which are really helpful for the subjects. He is always asking if anyone needs help and makes himself available to meet for questions/advising. Looking forward to more classes with him!
He is a very good instructor if you do your part you will success in his class.
There is a lot of reading. It's important to keep up with the reading material. His assignments I found to be fun and interesting. Lots of extra credit opportunities. He is very knowledgeable on forensic psychology. I took this as an elective for my human service degree and I am glad I did!
"So a good teacher always makes you do something a little bit more than you thought that you could do." quote by John B. Goodenough. This is is why Che is a GOOD teacher and I will always love to be in his classes he pulls the potential out in his students and impacts their lives more than he knows.
Although, I love out off state, I will attempt to sit in on Professor Che's lectures, whenever I can. His legal mind is powerful, his passion to educated is moving and his heart to see his students win is motivational!
He gave a lot of content material so you'll definitely be prepared for the weekly quiz and discussion. I took this class for a credit and for someone who finds history and law-related classes boring, I found getting through this class was not that bad! I typically don't do very well on topics like law since I find it boring but this class was okay.
This class is entirely online; I have never talked to Professor Dawson. There are pop quizzes every week, as well as a written response. Sometimes, you have to answer classmates to get full credit. I don't understand how he grades things or what he expects in the work. Overall he's a-okay teacher, I didn't learn anything in the class.
You do not need to buy the textbook for this online class! I bought it and never used it the whole quarter. The quizzes are easy if you just review lectures and videos. The discussion posts were weird because even if you answer all the questions thoroughly and reply to classmates, she grades it difficult and will take points off for no reason.
He is amazing, very kind, easy to reach out too, I absolutely loved him as my professor! 10/10 would recommend!!
discussion and quiz every week. He grades discussion heavy and will cut points if spelling and grammar is good. Learned a lot in this class and would recommend to my friends.
He is a really easy going professor for me. I had him online and his teaching was great! He had videos of him giving mini lectures. He had discussions and quizzes every week which were so easy. mostly just true or false. Take him!!!!!!!!
This is a good professor. I recommend you choose this professor
I have taken many of Che's classes: CJ 106, DGS 162 AND CJ 228. Every one of his classes made me fall in love with law. He is very accessible and he has great lectures. I had an A in all of his classes. I highly recommend him for students!! Do the work and you will pass. Love this professor ! I would take all my classes with him if I could.
Professor Che is an amazing instructor for the Immigration Law class. It's a difficult subject to teach and to learn but the way he explained made it much easier for me to understand. I learned so much from all the videos and articles we were assigned to read. I appreciate all the class discussions and readings and his weekly videos.
Che is skilled at creating a knowledge base at the beginning of each class and then building on that foundation. I retained a lot of the information from his classes because of how much repetition he does with the big concepts (but not so much that it gets boring or feels patronizing).
So so so many oportunities for exrtra credit, there is no reason you can't get an A in the class. Instructions are always very clear, everything we talk about in class and more are available on the canvas, assignments are easy if you pay attention and go to class. Highly recommend Che!
Very communicative
Alright class but the final is worth too much of your grade in my opinion. Only getting a few questions wrong can make your grade drop by multiple percentages.
This is a great class I learned a lot, Only thing i didn't like was that the quizzes were timed so i felt like i had to rush because i would panic. Would take again would highly recommend he always responded promply to my emails
You'll pass if you do the work&pay attention. Quizzes are timed and sometimes hard. Che's classes are not "Easy A's", but achievable A's, if you put in the work, you'll pass. He's very communicative. He offers extra credit, even if it isn't until the end of the quarter. I took 4 of his classes, each I stressed out on, but always ended with a 4.0.
Che Dawson is a very straightforward and informative professor that creates coursework which is both interesting and challenging. Mr. Dawson shows a dedication to ensuring his students are able to retain and apply the information being learned, and stresses an importance of not diving too deep into specific details when learning the big picture.
His class is very interesting, I think everyone has to take this class at some point. The information that he gave us is very useful.
He is so mean. He is not understanding at all if you tell him that you couldn't do an assignment because of an emergency he will tell you that you should have prepared ahead of time. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS
Whenever you have a situation where you are unable to turn in your assignments on time, he denies and says “it's your problem, not mines” he's so rude and not understanding at all!
A really nice man with a great sense of humor. Classes are interesting and you're expected to participate, it's a class, people. Is there homework? Yes, but not too much. Very fair with grading and you are responsible for your work, so grow up, it's college. Is accessible outside of class and respected on campus. Would take again but I graduated!
He really helps out when you have any questions, and replies quickly.
Legal 139 is a 1-day seminar, but Che didn't make it seem like drag or boring. He brought in a guest speaker and was able to get us wrapped up a bit early.
His lectures and study materials are very interesting.
I had to take Legal 139 for a credit but professor Dawson was good i learned a lot in the seminar and i would definitely take the class again
Would not recommend this professor overall, terrible communicator too, super picky on things. 100% would rather choose a different professor if I was able to.
Professor Che often took a whole day to respond to my emails. Each week, you will do the textbook readings + any extra videos/articles, then a quiz and discussion. The quizzes are worth 30 points with 10 questions. My grade often got tanked because of them. He does offer extra credit for replying to extra people, so take advantage of that!
Mr. Che Dawson is fantastic; I loved this class. I do not think "average" is a correct way to describe the difficulty level of the course. Lessons are engaging and can be challenging. However, he is setting you up for success and it is clear he wants you to succeed/pass. No late assignments unless you have an accommodation or a true emergency.
Prof. Dawson really wants you to learn, and he works to help you succeed with challenging and thoughtful discussion questions, reasonable requirements, and helpful video lectures (this was a completely online course with no class meetings). He's also pulling for his students and always ready to answer (emailed) questions.
Extremely linear class, you do the discussion and quizzes, 2 each week(could change but that was my quarter). He responds fast, and any questions I have are answered. I recommend this class personally. I also recommend doing his work the day before it's due just so you don't forget since you need a valid reason on why you missed the assignment.
I took it online and it typically consisted of two assignments due by Sunday night, one discussion and a short quiz about the chapter. The assignments were interesting and fun for me to write about. He's a good grader and at answering emails.Theres extra credit and he gives feedback on your assignments.I would recommend taking his classes.
Mr. Dawson is an amazing teacher, he is lecture heavy when you attend his classes but all the things he talks about are really informational. There are quizzes on canvas that are fairly easy and the discussions are interesting. This class never bored me and I was always having fun.
