when you need help, he will help you!
Beware. This guy cannot teach. Pre-Cal is suppose to be easy. He makes it so complicated its not funny. His test are extremely hard. His jokes are not funny.
Teacher is annoying as hell trying to show that he is smarter than you because he is going for his phd in Mathematics. To top it off, he is not a good teacher. Most of the class failed first exam 4 q's worth 20-25 points each! Done with material now and am expecting him to show off for the next 5 weeks. Dont take if you want a real teacher.
The dude sucks. Take anyone else.
Horrific guy. Steer clear.
Posts are right about this guy. Really bad is all I have to say. Students were asking the Prof. what section he is teaching for Cal 2 and he thought e/o wanted to be in his class and not that they wanted to avoid his section!
great guy!! if ur willing to actually learn then he is great professor. has a lot of knowledge to share and is always there to help. but if u dont really care abt learning math thn i suggest u find anothr professor else u gona have bad experience. the exams r hard but if u practice the ?"s in the txtbook n do the hw's thn u'll do fine.
Um he's a snazzy dresser? Nothing else good to say about this man. try to take someone else and see how it goes.
The guy needs to come back down to earth and check that arrogance level. And maybe return to school to learn how to relay the material over because he is definitely not a natural educator.
If you are a real college student you will avoid this man. He is not a wise choice. Good luck avoiding him.
I think everyone from my class is posting here so why not. He is terrible. Adding anything else would be superfluous.
very nice guy...i took his math 195 class during the summer....if you go to his class you will understand math...he teaches well...tests are hard but at the end of the course you will know your stuff
At times the teacher, says korny jokes. He also messes up alot, but he teaches very clearly. Even if you dont understand something he will be willing to help you, as long as u dont give him attitude. I mean in the class i thought i was going to hate the class b.c of his jokes but he was actually really great! i promise as longas ur willing to work
he is smart but the problem is he can not uses his smartness to get the pts across to students. If your math skill is not strong you will be lost in class. He tries to confuse u with higher math. His test is out of this world HARD. I dont feel he is a fair prof at all.
he is really hard,he does not grade fairly i think, but he post test pratice on blackboard and it a very high chance that most of the questions will be on the test.
He is a nice guy, with a great spirt for math. he actually cares about helping the students out as much as he can with extra tutoring sessions and extra problems. just do all hw and the problems in post on blackboard n you will do fine! yes his exams are bit hard but its all about pratice! so stop complaining its not him! his a great professor!
He is so awesome, and helpful. He is willing to push you to do you best, this whole summer he spent his time motivating the class because he believes in us. He is inspirational, sure he is corny but he is funny. He gave me a wonderful impression of CCNY and I <3 him. Tests are ok and hw is alot, but its on a cool lvl! Andrea <3 this Proff.!!
He's funny, helpful, has his tutoring and extra points....BUT its tough to follow him in class and he goes too fast, I had to live by the book, and I recommend taking someone else if you can
He is really funny but he did not convince me to himself. It is cool that he tries to explain everything on his ow and he never uses a book to support himself and he spends a lot of extra time to help students. The only problem I had was that the problems he gave us on the test were way harder than ones we were doing in class. my rate 4/5!!!
He knows his math. Teaches very fast, but ask him to slow down and he will. Never has lecture prepared, but he knows what he's doing. Tests are hard, but study book and BB material and you will pass. Available for 1-2 hrs after class, very helpful, will answer all your questions. Best part about him, his corny jokes! The man funny.
HE'S COOL.. WILL LISTEN TO WHAT YOU HAVE TO SAY AND GIVE YOU EXTRA HELP IF YOU NEED IT..
Prof cheikhna is one of the best professor in the math depat.he is young probably in his 20 ies. he is very funny, great listener, answer every questions you have without anger or cutting you off. the man knows what is doing. very helpful individidual and always motivating you and believe in you that you can doing. he is also very ispirational.
he writes small but hes funny teaches well very few times hes messed up on algebra and fixes it if you dont understand something and after the sec time hes explained it you dont understand hell get mad uses easy examples unless going over hw or you ask him to recommend to others though trust me theres worse
Not a good professor. Inconsistent and disorganized. Gives long, unnecessary examples and lectures. Doesn't focus on theory, but instead, tries to show you how smart he is. Ridiculous exams. He'll tell you EXACTLY what will be on the final, but he wont teach it to you. Good luck.
If you are a girl you must take his class. Be little nice to him and an A is waiting for you.
Avoid this guy at all cost!
Exams are difficult. Lecture isnt organized. Rushes through the material. Inconsistent. Doesnt go over h.w or exams. Didnt even return the 2nd or 3rd exam. Ask him simple question, he will waste 20mins with unnecessary proofs. Spent only 30 mins on conic section n rotation of axes on the last day of semester but it will be major part of final. FML!
His exams are difficult, but most questions are from the textbook. He will slow down if you ask him to explain something until you understand it completely. He is funny and nice person overall, but his exams are hard compare to other professors.
no, i take back my previous post. he saved my life, gradewise. just scared the heck outta me for a bit..
Inconsiderate and useless, this man pretends to do things he doesn't. He doesn't curve. He arrives late consistently wasting class time and expects you to finish a test fast even though he forces you to make long calculations in test which doesn't even test the real knowledge of the subject at hand. Unfair as other students testify.
I'm an honors student and a hard worker,I don't say this for my own boost of ego, but if even I find him unfair and horrible, please avoid. He's incredibly insulting with his comments after his ridiculous tests by saying an individual doesn't study when it's quite the contrary. And wow is he LATE! no professionalism.
He's very helpful if you look for the help if not then you get crapped on by his comments. Its true that hes constantly late but its because he also goes to school. He does teach very fast. Also, very generous and very helpful if you have any problem. He will put himself on the line for you if you show him that you give a damn about his class
He is the best prof. Any student can have. You must work hard to get good grade from him. He is fair, we students are used to get easy grade or tests and the get an A. The truth is many students in my class had got A frm cal1,2,3but when they took this prof. They could not pass because he made you work. He is very helpful. He is the best
He seems very laid back but don't be fooled. His exams are tough but grades them fairly. You can catch him in cafeteria if you need help with hw problems. He tries to make the class enjoyable and a memorable one.
Prof. Mahawa is a great guy, do not fall for what some people might say about him. He is very helpful and easy going person. You can enjoy his class and have a good grade.
He Was a great man and very helpful and care about students when I took his classes. Now,he is a different prof. He just and leave.he make no more joke.he is no longer giving the free workshop.however, he is still teaching nicely and clreary.now,it seems like he does not want to help anyone out side of class or outside hi office. I like the old
He's a terrible professor. He chooses favorites in class and he does not know how to teach properly.
Great professor, very straight forward and clear. Super fair. Put in the effort and you will do well on the exams
His exams are hard but he is fair. He expects maths not computation from students. After taking his course I feel like I have learned something more than computation in a math course. A good guy doesn't change easily. He tried to be hard but in the end he became really nice. I don't know what happened to him that changed him. He is nice anyway.
Be ready to work on your own in his class. He does not explain things well and expects a lot from his students. The only students that do well are ones that have taken 203 before. He is irresponsible and at times hypocritical. Tests are very hard and are more theory than actual computations so know EVERYTHING. My advice is don't take his class.
great prof and very responsible individual. extermely fair grading and very helpful. exams are duable if you study. however, he wants you to understand math. I wish all the prof teach the same way meaning he makes you understand theory bihind whaat you do. he is the best
prof. cheikhna is geneous. verey clear and nise. he is very helful and patient. best in ccny
He is a helpful professor who is very funny and nice. Attendance is a mandatory in the beginning in order to not get dropped, but afterwards its up to you. It is in your best interest to attend though since his exams are based on in class examples, do your hw (which means get the book or a pdf) and the tests will not be hard.
He is very clear and patient and helpful. best in ccny math dept
I didnt do great in this class but I came away really liking the guy and felt like i learned the material. For whatever reason I had trouble translating this to the exams. I think it probably just took me too long to get down basics like log and e etc. Consider taking precalc first unless you are really sure you are ready. Exams were on hard side
When I took him, he gave take home exams, that was pretty awesome. Just about everyone did well. But he's not a very good teacher and his accent can throw you off, it threw me off. Other than that, he was a great guy.
Very funny guy, a lot of humor. Teaches you stuff beyond the subject matter. However hard to follow, often lost. But if you read the textbook and do the hw, you'd be fine. Tough class though
One of the most helpful and caring professors I have seen yet. Extremely easydropped two tests out of five. Easy grader, too. Available anytime you need help. Tests are easy so study a little harder for the final. Gives you easy ways to memorize formulas. Ask any questions during lecture and he'll stop and help you. Would love to take him again.
Pay attention in class and take notes. Do not skip class. Ask questions if something is not clear and use the textbook. Do some examples out of the textbook for each chapter. He is funny and makes calculus interesting.
Easy A
The most caring professor in whole ccny. Always there for us. We love him Because of his professionalism and his character. Love faireness. He is so funny and hilarious
very nice and fair guy. accent is a little annoying but hes a really good professor. learned a lot and its math you gotta study
He is very helpful if you go to him. Generally he is a very nice professor. Easy A but you do have to study.
Tests are tough, but he provides all test examples in lectures. He is the man, and doesn't want to fail students. But you need study and do hw, that save yourself. If you are above average, I think you could get a A.
One of the few best prof in CCNY, cares for his student, always available to help. most test questions are similar to his lecture examples.
Professor Mahawa is one the best math professor in CCNY. Quick lectures but does practice problems. His goal is not to fail anyone and if you give it your best then you will get the grade you deserve. His in class test are based off his lecture problem but usually your grade will suffer due to dept final.
He was my saving grace this semester. Passionate about math and can teach it well. Make sure you understand all the in class questions and can solve them blind folded
Great professor! Knows his stuff and conveys material well. Additionally he really wants his students to learn. He will go over things as many times as necessary if you ask. Would highly recommend. Makes math fun and is very fair!!!
very inspirational and passionate and caring. Also funny
One of the worst professors that I've ever had in all my classes at NYU. He's a nice guy and actually a decent lecturer, but the grading is completely unfair, and you're tested primarily on material that he didn't cover, or at the very least way more complicated than what he went over, that you're expected to somehow figure out.
Good person with decent lectures. However, he gives so much homework (both online and written). His exams are so hard - he doesn't teach half the material that's on them! I did very well in honors math in high school but this class is unorganized and my most stressful class by far!
The amount of homework is completely unreasonable. There's more work in this class then all of my other classes combined, and I've already covered all this material before, so I was expecting an easy A. You really need to try hard to make this material seem so difficult. I really don't know how a university doesn't seriously question his methods.
He's a nice enough guy, but the class is extremely disorganized, and we are assessed extremely unfairly. Just because you understand math does not mean you know how to effectively teach. The communication between the professor, the TAs, and the students is horrible, and he never seems to understand how confused everyone is. Do not take this prof.
This class is by far the worst class that I have ever taken in my entire academic career. It's extremely confusing, disorganized, inconsistent, unfair, and a completely unreasonable amount of work as if the professor thinks this is our only class. Avoid him at all costs if you can!
Hands down the worst professor I've had at NYU. I really don't know how the school has kept him this long. I guess if you have tenure or do some sort of research for the university, then your teaching abilities are completely irrelevant.
His class is a rollercoaster/unpredictable. He says one thing and does another (usually for the benefit of the students). He offers extra credit, make up exams for those who did bad (even though he used the same exam as previous semesters), a take home, drops one, and often gives breaks in class. Class was easy but I'm not prepared for dept. final.
My dear collagues, you should come to class and participate fully before you complain. Your attitude my friends, are pathetic. I can hear u guys making sarcastic jokes everywhere. This professor actually is really great person who cares about students. HWs are pretty hard but thats it. It's you guys, not the professor whos making this course hard.
Although he does give a lot of HW, he really does care for his students and makes himself very accessible out of class. The course is difficult, but he does everything he can to help us learn it and succeed.
At the beginning of the semester everything went well. Then towards the end lectures were very improvised and too fast paced.
Great guy, however, he is difficult to follow in lecture. If you miss a lecture you will fall behind! His exams are average. He doesn't follow the textbook so there is no structure to the class itself. For the most part he prepared you enough for the final.
I had Chiekhna for a 10am to 11:30 class. He would regularly spend a large portion of the class bragging about his own accomplishments, and not start actually teaching until 11:15 or so. His lectures were rushed, unprepared, often irrelevant, and extremely confusing. That being said, the exams were passable if you studied.
He's a great guy, although he's hard to follow during lecture, when it comes to the exams you end up being fully prepared.
This is one of the nicest Professor I have met on this campus. Made every effort to help outside of class. He even tells you to call him on Skype. Need more Professor like him, who is willing to help even though they are busy. He made differential made easy
Super nice Professor. Most of the questions asked in the quizzes are taken from the problems solved during the class hours. Easy to pass.
He was a really good professor! Super helpful and love his lectures. Also, participation does matter.
Best math professor I have ever had. He's there whenever you need him. At the beginning of the semester he tries to act like he's this mean and strict teacher when he's the complete opposite. Tests consist of problems he does during class so make sure to pay attention. Sometimes its hard to follow what he's doing but don't be scared to ask him.
THE BEST Calculus professor, gives you all the right tools to ace the course, its on you to work hard, do all the HW problems in the syllabus, go to office hours (BIGGEST HELP He is always available to help his students). Very caring and understanding, not an easy course but if you do your part you'll do great.
First half of the semester went well but second half his lessons were rushed. He spends a lot of the class time telling stories and trying to fix the smart board. Skip if you want to actually learn in class. Overall he is fair and does help you if you go to office hours. He favors students.
If you want to pass without doing any studying, just go to office hours and sit in the front. After class join his entourage and youre guareteed a c min.
Reasonable professor who gives alot of homework.(webassign is what he grades but his exams are from the textbook. so theres alot of homework.) You will pass if you go to his office hours and do all of his homework.
This professor is probably one of the best professors out there. Things to know: He is very friendly, caring and available, Sit where you can see the board clearly, write all of the notes, even if you don't understand something, do the webassigns, he drops one test grade, tests come from class work+test, final comes from previous tests + very fair
Cheikhna is a good professor because the work he gives inside and outside of class is very relevant to this tests and the departmental final. If you do the Webassign and ask a lot of questions in class, you will have an ok time during the semester.
He has an accent, didn't bother me much but I know some people don't like that when it's a lecture heavy class. He is always making mistakes on the board so its confusing when he does a long problem and suddenly someone points out its wrong and we have to do it all over again. We used Webassign/E-book instead of a hardcopy for this class.
Honestly he's a great professor with a tendency to drift off into other topics, which while they may be interesting / inspirational can be very irrelevant
he's a nice guy but he would rather tell you stories about how he let his cousin drown and how its our fault that the smart board doesn't work. He favors students.
Overall nice guy that cares for his students. Test are straight forward, DO ALL OF THE HW & you will be fine. However he does give alot of HW though. Web assign & textbook. My only issue is that we wasted alot of classroom time discussing irrelevant things & dealing w/ issues for the class smart board. I did not feel adequately prepared for dep fin
If you need help and ask questions, he'll help for sure. Don't talk in his class. If you do all of his HW's you'll do great.
If you do the textbook homework and webassign before a test you will most surely do well. He is such a caring teacher that always puts his students first but he will see right through the people trying to take advantage of him. Review class before final is vital
First half of class went well, got messy second half. Would say things, and forget he said them/change it last minute. Twice he said he would post an exam and didnt, and didnt bother to tell the class about it. Left the class wondering if there would be an in-class exam. Bad pace, and organization. Better off taking a slightly harder, but org proff
Approachable and easy to get help from. Study the class notes closely before an exam. Supplement with the textbook and its relevant examples to be comfortable. Your efforts will be rewarded.
He seems very intimidating at first but turns out he is really nice. He does go off into irrelevant topics throughout class but he always tries to make sure you understand the material. He loves it when you ask him questions and is available during his office hours. We didn't use the textbook in his class but we used the eBook version and WebAssign
This is my 2nd time taking him. He has gotten so much lazier and for night class you will miss out 10-20min of class because he will go pray. it is sad that you dont even get a review anymore and you just have to be smart enough to take him. hes a nice professor with great morals though.
People who are talking bad about him are the ones who didn't study enough. Literally every question on our tests came straight out the textbook review problems he told us to do. They were literally the same number for number and word for word, all you had to do was practice enough. Also gave a take home.
Really great professor. Exams are easy because they come out of the textbook problems. As long as you practice from the textbook and show up to his class you'll get an easy A. Only bad thing about this professor are the mistakes he makes when teaching the class. Also, make sure to check your exams. He makes a lot of mistakes when grading them.
He is one of the best professors I've had in CCNY. I genuinely studied for his class and if I could I would only have him for the math courses. His exams are textbook based and very fair if you practice. Amazing professor, you will not regret it!
Very caring professor. I wish every professor was like him. HE SETS HIS STUDENTS UP TO SUCCEED. The only people that do bad are the people that dont do what he says. Watch jhevon smith videos online and his class will be one of the easiest classes you have ever taken.
You can get A in this class if you watch Jhevon Smith. His lectures notes are hard to follow and have mistakes. He makes mistakes in exam questions and also while grading them. But the questions come from his guide. He grades exams leniently. He gave a take home exam because he made big mistakes on one exam, but he dropped one. He also curved.
Cheikhna is a great professor who cares for his students, better put your hard work into this class otherwise you will not be able to continue. Mostly self-study, you learn a lot of things by doing that. Lots of homework, it's really helpful. Make you practice a lot. Do not fail behind. He likes to talk a lot about his life and his students.
talks a lot about his life. I don't understand anything in his class and he doesn't teach the whole section, he says "go look at your textbook". I dont recommend his class.
Good professor and very lenient grader!
He's very accessible outside of class and really cares about his students. His exams are very difficult, but he does curve a bit at the end of the semster.
He is rude and makes so many mistakes that he refuses to accept. Then starts giving life talks. Just watch Jhevon Smith. His exams are easy if studied.
Diagana cares about his students, but he is unorganized and inconsistent. He spends too much time giving motivational speeches rather than teaching. He arrives late and continues the lesson past time on most days. The syllabus is practically useless.
Whoever said Cal2 is the hardest Cal is misleading. Cal3 has 4 chapters to cover and a computer lab unrelated to material. So much to study... his tests are unforgiving. He goes on speeches calling the students lazy/stupid just cause. Study a lot b4 tests, give up sleep day b4 to study study. Stay motivated B- was earned. 2.7 rating honestly.
I had Cheikhna for two semesters. He really cares about his students. His lectures are based on his knowledge and the examples in the textbook. I like the way he teaches very neat and organized. Exams are similar to his lectures. That doesnt mean you shouldnt study! The best way to receive an A in the class is definitely should study!
Although he gets off track sometimes in lectures, he is a very solid choice who will continue to explain concepts until everyone understands it. He really cares about his students and he wants us to pass! He makes class enjoyable and worth it. Find some past exams and you will be set, as they are extremely similar to the exams he gives.
He's tough if you're new to programming, U should understand the Matlab notes CCNY gives if U want an A in his class. It's not easy but if U show up, do the HW, & show effort he'll give it to U. If U don't put in effort & U can't show that you Understand everything then consider yourself lucky if he gives U a C. learn what's on the syllabus. STUDY!
He's honestly a good professor. Not the best in the world, but he's better than some of the other professors. He honestly cares about your comprehension of the material, but you have to be the one to approach him about whatever you're confused about. He'll curve grades whenever he sees fit. He tells funny anecdotes and motivation. You need to study
Worst professor ever has no idea what is he teaching avoid him at any cost
worst professor i have ever seen. just want to waste time. doesn't care about student. impossible to reach him. doesn't respond emails. his office is closed during his office hours.
He will help you out if you help yourself. Go to his office hours, email him, have a good connection with him, he will be more generous because he sees you care about the class, but you have to participate, show potential and that you understand the material. Study, do HW, take what u dont understand to office, he will explain and simplify it.
Professor is amazing at explaining concepts intuitively so that anyone can understand. Anytime I had a question, I went to his office hours, and he was always there. He truly cares about his students, and motivates us to work harder. He wants the best for his students and curves his exams. I learned a lot from him. Definitely take him!
This is hands down the best professor in all of CCNY. I have never met a more passionate, more caring, understanding, patient and brilliant professor Like Cheikna. I did not know they made professors like this. He does get off on tangents during lecture, but he will make sure you understand the material. Please do your selfs a favor, and take him.
This is hands down the best professor in all of CCNY. I have never met a more passionate, more caring, understanding, patient, and brilliant professor Like Cheikna. I did not know they made professors like this. The hw is on Webwork which is hard to do, but he will make sure you understand the material. Please do yourself a favor, and take him.
I received a good grade in this class because I studied on my own and watched YouTube linear algebra videos. He goes on these rants during class instead of teaching. He made so many mistakes on the midterms that several questions coudnt even be solved and he never comes to proctor his own exams. Grading has even more errors.
Hes very difficult. meaning if you ask him a question he bugs out on you. no student should have to go through school feeling discouraged. he doesnt answer emails.
The semester isn't over yet, but I can't wait! I'm an A+ student telling you to AVOID THIS MAN! I'm usually good with teachers, but this professor is a nightmare! He is clearly smart, but should not be teacher! He is spiteful and will pick on you if you correct him. Expect up to 30 practice q's, a lot of reading, and 50+ questions for homework! smh
The only positive about him is he seems to be caring. However, he always make mistakes, very slow in teaching. He always wants to teach extra time because he is so slow and always wastes time by rechecking his stupid mistakes in the class. If you want to learn something, please do not take it. I am getting below A for the very first time.
I think a lot of people misunderstood the professor this semester. He genuinely cares about whether or not we do well in the class and he tries to help us as much as possible so that we'll be able to pass. He'll be hard on you from the start but later on he's really understanding and he wants to help you
It was an atrocious experience. He berated us for asking questions that seemed obvious in his eyes, he threatened us with quizzes, and he "wrote down" our names if we didn't participate. He is very easy to upset, and he seems to be struggling with personal issues! Up to 15 assignments on webasign were due in one day, I had to email the math dep.
Do yourself a favor and don't take this professor, he don't care how hard you try if students do bed he blames on them. He is the worse professor ever.
He is pity shows no sympathy. The worse professor Ive ever had. Dont take him youll regret.
He shouldnt be a teacher coz he dont know how to teach. He makes the quizzes and test very hard and refuse to curve or give any extra credit for us to make up. He always wants to teach extra time because he is very slow wastes time by rechecking his stupid mistakes in the class. If you want to learn something, DO NOT take him.
This professor is honestly a mixed bag in my opinion. From a purely online perspective, you definitely need to dedicate a lot of time studying on your own. (professor Leonard, organic chem tutor etc.) However, the professor gives very helpful practice sets that are usually on par with the tests he gives. Even the final had some familiar questions.
Prof. Diagana is an amazing Calculus lecturer. He doesnt tolerate nonsense. You want to pass, then STUDY! Take advantage of the 2 hours of office hours to ask him questions. He will do his best to clarify and explain everything in-depth. He may even give you advice on tests/quiz. Trust me he may seem strict but he deeply cares for his students.
You will learn more on your own. He will not go over some topics then those topics will be on the tests. His practice questions don't make any sense. He gives examples in class, but the questions in tests and quizzes are much harder and he won't go over those. His attitude when you ask a question is just unbelievable. U have to study on ur own.
Worst teacher even he is so rude and does not know how to teach. His tests are nothing like the solving problems.
I hate this professor & this class. If you can avoid this class, DO SO! RUN! Quizzes every 2 weeks, tests hard af, no extra credit. Got mad when we asked questions about the lesson. Tests are hell, and makes so many mistakes on quizzes/tests which makes things even more confusing. He's not good at teaching. Youtube taught me, not him.
He does a lot of mistakes. Then correct his mistakes which makes us confused. He is so RUDE, UNPROFESSIONAL. He gets mad if you asked him questions during his lecture. He wants us to go to his office hours and ask questions. Don't take him. You will regret it. Trust me. Half of the class dropped his course.
If you ever want a teacher who wants to teach. He's the guy. He may be short fused at times but when you approach him during times in his office hours, it'll be worth it. He grades heavy, but, you will enjoy searching all over for good resources when he's not helpful. The Organic Chem Tutor was my savior.
At first I did not like the professor however this professor cares about his students. After he saw so many people struggling he dropped 2 quizzes and a test. After many students were worried about covid cases rising he made the final online. He truly cares about his students. He recycles a lot of his practice questions so make sure to do them.
This is the worst professor I've ever had. He wastes class time complaining about nobody asking questions, but when questions are asked, he usually answers in an abrasive, condescending manner so no one wants to ask questions. He also makes mistakes on quizzes and tests and will pick and choose when to address those errors. AVOID THIS PROFESSOR
This was not a class I enjoyed taking this semester only because of the professor. He gave a very hard time to his students and made it difficult to even try to learn. Students of his own were even scared to ask him help for questions we didn't understand. He easily gets frustrated. If you have to take this class always be prepared for anything.
He has good intentions and he wants you to do well. Exam and quiz questions come straight from lectures, so make sure to understand and do them properly. If u don't understand his explanations, learn to use outside sources bc he is a bit cranky when it comes to repeating himself. But, overall, he makes it so that you can do well in the course.
The prof isnt a bad guy. Yes he gets a rude at times but he is honestly a great person. He does make mistakes and be prepared to catch him on it. However, he isn't so bad of a professor compared to others in the math dept. I would take him over anyone else.
Everyone in the class was always stressed about their grade. He made a lot mistakes during the lessons, exams, and quizzes. Plus, the students were not comfortable asking him questions because of his bluntness. He is a nice guy in person but the online classes were not it.
he rude, always got an attitude if u ask questions. this guy makes mistakes in every quiz & test, he made a mistake on the final and refused to fix it,ur grade could go from a 80 to a 60 real quick, he didnt give hw only webwork was 5% extra credit, met him once in person for our first test & he seemed nicer so maybe online teaching is not for him
The professor is really lenient with grading and tries to give you as many points as you possibly can. If you have any problems go to his in person office hours. He hates talking to a person with no camera. Overall he is one of the better professors I've had in CCNY. I took his summer course.
He is a really nice guy, fair and has every students interest at heart. Gets irritated sometimes if you forget what he teaches in the last class or in the same classes. He makes mistakes from time to time when teaching and setting test questions but he is human. Awards extra credits for those who actively participate and respond during lectures.
He's a great professor compared to most from ccny's math dept. He is more than willing to help after class (if you catch him), and he's a very fair grader. He makes mistakes during lectures, but if you catch them he gives you extra credit. Lectures are super easy to follow. Wish he were teaching Calc 2 this fall.
Amazing professor, actually cares about students and teaches concepts clearly, encourages questions & participation & goes out of his way to help students and make sure they understand concepts Gives partial crdt even for wrong answers. Few quizzes, 2 midterms, and final, drops lowest midterm and quiz. Makes time even outside of office hrs to help
Very caring professor. He goes off topic sometimes, but he means well. He makes some mistakes when he is writing on the board, and he encourages people to tell him when he does. He offers extra credit sometimes, so be aware of that.
RUN. AVOID THIS PROFESSOR. Do not take his course! I was excited because I love math but I HATED this class. This man is extremely passive aggressive and negative. He goes on weird rants about how we should be nice, decent human beings but yet he is very rude and condescending. He's also highly unorganized and cannot teach.
This Professor is the head of the Calc department. He claims that he goes fast when giving his lectures, but it was at a reasonable pace. He makes frequent mistakes when lecturing, but if you point him out on it, he offers extra credit to go towards the next test. He favors students that are actively participating or putting in effort.
Paid online textbook with assigned homework questions. These questions are extra difficult and nothing like the actual exams. He makes a lot of mistakes during the lecture. Goes on a tangent and rambles about life. His analogies suck. He does give a lot of extra points though, and the final was very similar to his exams.
Do not take this guy. He starts ranting about random things during his lectures and made us behind in our lessons while the other classes were done and reviewing for the final and taught things that are not part of the syllabus. Does not care if you missed a test because you are extremely sick, won't even respond to your email. Save yourself.
Don't listen to people complaining about him hes one of the best teachers in the department. He genuinely wants his students to do well and tries his best to push students. If you cant do well in his class u dont deserve a college degree. He gives you literally all the tools to succeed. (took him for multiple classes)
He's one of the best professors in the Math Department. His quizzes are straightforward and he usually gives practice problems for his exams. He's also the Calc 1 supervisor so he writes the final. A lot of people ,ay not see it, but he generally wants you to pass. It's up to you to do your part in studying and practicing. Take him if you can.
His class is formatted to maximize chances of passing. He is very caring and can teach well. Go to his office hours; he is more than willing to help, and is pretty good at teaching how to solve problems the "easy" way. Would 1000% take again.
All you need to do is attend the lectures and practice the problems he did in class, and an 'A+' is guaranteed.
He always goes off on stupid rants!!! He says he cares about his but makes too many mistakes during lectures. You will have to do a lot of self studying. He does offer office hours but they aren't that helpful. SAVE YOURSELF!!! AVOID THIS PROFESSOR!!!
Took professor Diagana for calc 1, and then for calc 2 over the summer. I would say he is a very solid professor. He does make alot of silly mistakes during the lecture, so you do have to correct him from time to time. He give you sample exams that are almost exactly like his actual exams. He is very caring and helps you as long as you show effort.
He's made this class interesting, and I did learn a lot. He was very honest and prove many times that belief that calc 2 is harder than calc 3. Take this class and his advice seriously otherwise you'll regret it. Also make sure to practice a lot because I can guarantee you if you don't practice, you'll fail this class.
Professor Cheikhna may seem harsh, but the truth is that he wants you to pass. Lectures are recorded and he provides practice problems that are similar to his exams. Lowest midterm and lowest quizzes are dropped. I would really recommend you take him because he generally does care about his students passing. You just need to put in some studying.
The only thing that was impressive about this professor was how he managed to offend majority of the class on the first day. Everyone that decides to take his class should know that how he acts on the first day is how he will act the rest of the semester. He went on long 40 - 50 minute rants and will blame the students for falling behind. Good Luck
He is a great teacher he does go on rants sometimes for 40-50 minutes. His lectures could not be made any easier it is math after all. He uses the textbook to teach, and records lectures, don't have to buy book. His practice exams have all the questions that will be in his exams. He goes over questions that will be on exams in office hours.
Professor Diagana has his flaws. He makes a lot of mistakes during his lessons, goes on rants often, and can have an attitude problem sometimes. However, deep down, he cares about his students, especially those who come to his office hours for extra help and tutoring. I dropped out of Calc multiple times before until I passed with this professor.
He is an amazing teacher, he knows how to teach and make topics super simple. Whatever examples he gives you in class study those and the homework problems on the syllabus and you should pass. Expect to be given life lessons and also expect him to go off topic from math for a bit. He is a great teacher and I hope I have him in the future.
Knolwdgable and easy to deal with. I fully understood calc 201, the exams was not easy, however, he discussed all of the exam ideas.
I took him a few semesters ago and he is easily one of the best if not the best math prof at CCNY. His lectures are easy to understand, but as the others said he will stray away for like half the lesson 😭. He also gives very thorough exam reviews for every exam and will upload them on blackboard just in case you can't make it!
The professor can get sidetracked, but he cares about students and offers valuable resources like practice exams. I found unstuck study and the free textbook really helpful for studying and staying on top of the material.
He is great at teaching and makes everything really simple. His office hours are also very helpful, and he even does online reviews before each exam. I wish I could take him for all math classes.
He has quizzes biweekly and make sure you bring a printed out syllabus on the first day. If you're confused just go to his office hours and he does reviews before every exam including the final exam. Lastly he makes things easy for people to understand. I hope I'm able to take his class again for the more advanced math later on.
He is a good professor and really wants his students to succeed but you have to but, in the work, in order to pass the class. If you are confused on certain topics go to his office hours because he really takes his time to go over the topic and even will still longer to make sure you understand the material. His reviews are really helpful as well
Participation is really important for this class. If you show up, answer questions (or ask them) in class, and go to office hours chances are you'll get a pretty good grade. He's very fair and if he sees that you are trying your best he will grade accordingly. He gives good homework as practice and explains concepts well, and answers questions too.
Based off others reviews, I believed everyone was over reacting but the professor genuinely just yaps. First day spent 15min trying to setup the screens just to go on a lecture about math and life and how he will not hold you around. I recommend not taking his class but if no choice just study as much as you can with whatever book is provided to u.
Do not think the reviews are exaggerating as he genuinely rants too much instead of teaching.
First day of class the professor is just talking about nothing related to class and is lecturing us about stuff that is going on in other countries and how kids are struggling.
50 minutes into the first class and nothing has been said about calculus. He just goes on and on.
I had this teacher back in september. I genuinely don't think you should be taking this guys class. He doesn't teach well and in fact stated he will "lecture at [us] but not teach [us] since this is college" so learning from him no cake walk. He litterally spent valuble class time arguing with a student about how climate change doesn't exist...
Y'all these reviews are overreacting. Cheikna is a very nice teacher that cares about his students. Yes he like to yap but he will still make sure you understand. I recommend his class 100%
He definitely is a crazy dude but he's genuine and cares for students. In lecture he might seem strict or go off the rails a lot, but come on, he teaches the material and also RECORDS every class. He doesn't even take attendance. If you're taking him Calc I, realistically all you need to do is watch the reviews for the midterm and the final. Easy
Goes on pointless rants, that add nothing to the lecture at hand. He holds classes for up to 15 minutes after it ends because he spent half the almost 2-hour class talking about nothing. You don't learn anything for 2-3 weeks, bc spends the first class degrading the class and calling them lazy and disrespectful compared to students in Africa.
Amazing teacher who cares about his students. If you try you will get a good grade
This professor wastes a lot of class time talking about himself instead of teaching. When he lectures, he overcomplicates simple topics and moves at an inconsistent pace, spending too much time on easy material and rushing through more challenging parts. Overall, not an effective teacher.
His class becomes very boring, especially when instead of explaining he starts scolding everyone for not being able to express certain terms, which can take up to 30 minutes of his class, not to mention that arriving more than 1 minute late affects attendance, in addition to extending his class 10 to 20 minutes more than established
This course might be challenging. However, Professor Cheikhna is not that bad. He really tried his best to go over the concepts and wants every student to participate in class as learning. POV: Some of the students did not care about the class and made themselves difficult. Go to office hours & put in effort, and then you will be adjusted.
Lectures are solid and he posts them online. The practice tests cover everything on the exams so as long as you study hard you should be good.
45 mins into the first class, I really don't like or respect this guy at all. He is condescending, spent the entire class lecturing us on how to be good students. I'm definitely reporting this guy especially for making those who didn't read his email to stand in front of everyone and took pictures of us. Teach me calculus, not life lessons.
He rants and rambles a ton, wasting class time, but when it comes to exams he gives out free points and drops your lowest so I don't mind the droning on and on. He gives practices identical to the exams and preps you for quizzes. Just go to office hours, do your WebWork, and don't sleep through lectures and you'll be fine.
He is THE GOAT. Any exam, attend his reviews because it will be nearly carbon copy. Applies to all his classes.
He can be pretty harsh at times and goes on quite a bit of tangents but he teaches calculus pretty well and his exams are exactly like the questions he does in class so if you pay attention, you'll be alright.
The professor goes above and beyond for his students but don't expect him to hold your hand. He provides all resources you need on brightspace including recorded lectures for you to succeed. Quizzes and exams are for the most part based on what he went over in class and the homework. Study up on algebra and trig and you'll do just fine.
I used to not like him at the start of the semester, but I've warmed up to him. During lectures, he doesn't know how to use the mic so unless you're in the first five rows you will not hear him at all. He records every lecture tho, so attendance isn't really mandatory either. For tests, it's nearly identical to the review and he always curves them.
On the first day, he seemed rude. However, he quickly grew on me. He cared about his students and provided many resources to help us pass our exams. As a bonus, he gives exam reviews which are almost identical to his exams and ends up adding 5-10 extra points on every exam too. Yes, he does go on rants… but they are interesting to listen.
Take him if you can, you won't regret it
His lectures were mainly just rambling about stuff that sometimes didn't have anything to do with the topics of the class. Learned the hard way that relying on his lectures was not a good idea and that you're better off using outside resources. On the other hand, his exams were somewhat similar to his practice exams, so use that as a reference.
- Adds extra points on exams (3-5 points) - Removes lowest 3 quiz grades and 1 exam - Quizzes are online but code is needed - Homework is not mandatory but worth it if you want to pass (I did like less than half and got a 98% : they are worth 5% of your grade) - Practice exams are SUPER similar - Good professor, cares about his students doing well
Do your hw, do your work and you should be good. Office hours are highly recommended as he is willing to help those who are willing to learn. Yes he gets tangent at times but his exams are clearly fair.
