The first tests were really difficult and seemed completely unrelated to the class material, but as you get used to them they become easier. Her lectures are long and boring because most of the material feels like common sense. Get ready to listen to other people's opinions because that is the majority of the class period. Not much outside work.
At first I was a little shaky, but she really will save your grade. She will say she's not big on extra credit but she actually is. Lots of class discussion but if you're shy, she understands and won't make you speak. Easy A+ and she is super nice and funny. No homework, perfect study guides. Recommend!!!
She's very engaging, passionate and has a sense of humor. She likes the students to talk but won't make you if you're a little crowd shy. She also makes real world events and stuff that's happening really relevant to the class material.
Lectures provides most of the information needed for tests. She promoted student participation and was interested in her students' opinions. Review the slides and study guides when given and you'll do very well on the tests.
Attendance does count. The first test was straight donations and the last two tests she told us specifically what to study. Read the book is pretty vital to passing the tests because she doesn't put all the information on the slides.
She is a very good professor, all of her powerpoint are online. Her lectures are interesting and does not assign homework. The class before each test is a review and she gives you the topics need to study. I would take her class again.
She's great! Her lectures are straightforward and posted on BlackBoard that day. She goes through all the material for the tests the day before and outlines everything needed to know. She gives lots of extra credit opportunities throughout the year so you can rack up those points. No homework ever. Only tests.
A 350 point total class. 100 for showing up and 150 for the tests. So many bonus point opportunities were given for simply visiting art exhibits or such on campus. I ended up accruing around 50 bonus points to be put on tests. All I had to do was show up to class, get the bonus points, and look at the study guide for a grade of over a 100.
Her test questions get weird and hard, but I went from a B- to an A+ by doing a little extra credit and being in class when she takes attendance. Her powerpoints are straight from the book and she gives you every topic on the test beforehand. She also doesn't believe in homework and lets out early most classes.
She's a really unique and sweet person, not to mention one of my all time favorite professors. Her tests are easy, as she's super clear about what is going to be one them. Doesn't believe in giving homework and gives a ton of extra credit. She is big on class participation, but she won't force you to. Really fun and interesting class!
Super interesting lectures. Says there will be discussion, but it's a large class so it's mostly just the few same people answering questions. Offered at least two or three extra credit opportunities per semester - easy to get a good grade in this class. Tests are very straightforward and easy, but comprehensive. Attendance taken randomly 10 times
The class overall is not that bad. She gives a lot of extra credit opportunities that will definitely help your grade. The tests are worded very poorly and can be pretty tough, but with the extra credit it's an easy A.
Very easy class. With the extra credit I made well over a 100%. My only issue with the class was how one-sided she was with her views, and if you tried to say anything against her views, she would shut you down without giving you a chance to give your side.
The class overall is an easy A. there are about 10 attendance quizzes that account for 20% of final grade. She takes an extremely long time to grade anything. Classes are usually short. She wants the class to discuss and be openminded but she is kinda condescending with people who disagree with her views. Overall the class is fairly easy.
Dr. Bryant's class was very enjoyable and she wants students to be involved in class discussion. She usually cut class short and there was never any homework. There was a ton of extra credit opportunities in case you don't do well on a test. This class was very interesting and inspirational! Definitely an easy A and I would recommend taking her.
Easy class. The lectures were long and unhelpful, and attendance is required. Most of class was spent reading the power points which were posted anyway. There's one group project, and two multiple choice tests. The tests are hard because the review is only given 2 days in advance, but the actual material is easy, it is just straight memorization.
Extremely boring, sits in her chair and speaks in a monotone voice that puts you to sleep. No doubt knows her stuff but its hard to focus when your sound asleep.
Learned a lot about sexuality. Would take her again.
Not an interesting class. Sits in her chair and reads off the power point, so what's the point of going to class? But attendance is mandatory. Gives study guides but the test doesn't reflect the study guide. Talked about me in class, unprofessional. Doesn't respond to emails. Don't take this class
I really enjoyed Dr. Bryant's class. The lectures were interesting and often let out early. She encourages group discussion, which is great but she can sometimes be a little condescending when someone expresses a differing opinion. The tests are pretty straightforward. She takes an incredibly long time to get grades back.
One of the best teachers I have had at UA love the class discussions only thing negative I have to say about her was that she doesn't reply to emails so getting in touch with her outside of class is dead but overall easy A
TAKE HER FOR SOC 101! Professor Bryant is such an amazing person. I love her personality and she makes class enjoyable. Usually lets class out early. NEVER HOMEWORK. Class worth 250 points, exams are worth 200. So take notes and listen to what she says more than whats on the lecture notes. Random attendance grades. Rare extra credit opportunities.
SHE IS BY FAR THE BEST TEACHER THAT I HAVE HAS AT UA. SHE DOES NOT BELIEVE IN A LOT OF HOMEWORK OR HARD TESTS. SHE IS MY FAVORITE AND I WOULD DEFINITELY RECOMMEND HER 100 TIMES OVER.
I liked this class, and I liked the way that she conducted the large lecture class. She takes attendance somedays so I try to go. Class is not boring. She always starts the day with a fun music video. Tests are a little difficult, but not too hard.
Great professor! Super nice, approachable, and always willing to work with you. She randomly takes attendance 10 times a semester without telling you, so its in your best interest to show up. Lectures are somewhat boring, but also tend to be interactive. Three or Four unproctered tests. Extra credit.
If you show up to her 101(even though class isn't mandatory) and look at the power points the night before the test then you'll get an a, she gave a 20pt extra credit assignment towards the end of the semester. I finished will 118% in the class, would highly recommend taking her for 101
SHE IS SO COOL. When you leave Ms. Bryant's class, you genuinely are in a good mood just because she has that effect on people. She is young, funny, and super stylish. She let us know what questions would be on the tests and gave good extra credit opportunities also. Great professor!
Hands down the best prof at this university. She is overall amazing with the way that she teaches and how she cares about each student. Lectures are very interesting and upbeat. attendance is 50/250 so go to class. Highly recommend professor B to everyone looking for a great class with an even better prof.
Professor B is one of the absolute best. I've taken three of her classes and I adore her. She's young, fun, engaging, interesting, and very relatable. Attendance is key to passing, but going to class isn't painful, I actually enjoy her lectures.
Professor B is young so she knows how to connect with students in ways older teachers might not i.e. she'll play popular music before class sometimes. Can tend to be a little bias in lectures but overall a good teacher! She definitely knows what she's talking about as she's a doctoral candidate and is always willing to explain things further.
Absolutely loved having her as my professor! Very inspirational and kind! She was very in tune with media and current events! Definitely a class worth taking!
Super easy class, only based on participation, tests (super easy) and a few projects. Dr. Bryant is by far on one my favorite professors I have come in contact with at UA. She is genuinely kind and cares about her students well being in and out of class. Also super cool and really relatable, makes class interesting!!
There are some subjects that are just really REALLY tough to talk about. Race is one of those. But Professor Bryant really made it a safe space to talk about it and also helped us all learn A LOT about how/why race is a social construction. I feel like I finally get it. Everyone across the university should be required to take this class.
Professor B. is really cool and very stylish. She has the ability to teach her students very well, she''s very informative when going over the powerpoints. She lets you know what to expect for the tests. The test were all multiple choice, 50 questions. At the end of the semester, we had chances to earn extra credit.
Professor B is a very influential women I enjoy what she has to say about many topics and find her lectures to be fascinating. READ the textbook. It's exactly like the test don't make the mistake of just doing the review. Group project is easy but put your work in. Very easy class if you read, participate, and follow instructions.
Good teacher. attendance is mandatory. Must study alot for the tests to do well.
She is a great professor, but this class is not an easy A so do not take it if you are looking for that. Be prepared to read the textbook a lot. I have to read the chapters over and over again and take notes to get a A on her tests. You really do have to study and put in effort. I was expecting and easy A and that wasn't the case.
Her lectures are really interesting. She plays music before every class and is always wearing some new unique outfit. She's a really cool and nice person!
She's a great teacher. She gives study guides before each test and as long as you study those you'll pass the test easy. class is a breeze and an easy A with little effort.
She is easy to listen to and makes it apply to my life. I notice things through my "lens" now that I never noticed before. I feel like a better person for this class.
Dr. Bryant is a good teacher meaning that what she wants to get across she does... very easily. However, it is usually from a pretty apparently partisan viewpoint and multiple sides of arguments are never presented even when the arguments are extremely valid and relevant. Lots of extra credit... pass out tests and get a 10% boost on a test etc.
Professor Bryant is really funny and clearly cares about her students and teaching.
Its my freshman year so I cant sleak too soon but def one of my fav professors so far.
I LOVE Professor Bryant! This class can be an easy A. You just have to stay on top of assignments. She lectures, but she also encourages a lot of class discussion. It didn't feel like a huge lecture hall class. She made it feel smaller, and she learned our names. I signed up for another class with her next semester and am excited to have her again!
I love her so much! She is sassy and passionate and fashionable and so much fun as a prof! She provides many different ideas and perspectives and I really appreciated her giving me new ways to think of things. She does do attendance sheets everyone in a while (especially later in the semester), so make sure to come to class!
The class was lecture heavy but the lectures were usually easy. Randomly takes attendance 5 or 6 times. Tests are pretty easy as long as you study the review
She cares a lot about your success and gives you many extra credit opportunities. Her classes were very easy to follow and interesting.
The class is easy, but the professor makes everything needlessly political. However, if you need an easy A, you should take this class.
She is amazing!! She definitely knows what she is talking about and is very passionate. Test are easy multiple choice test. But beware, make up exams are hard! You have to post on packback each week and it's pretty straight forward. Their is one group assignment but don't stress to much over it you'll get a 100 on it.
Great attitude and approachable teacher. She likes discussion and sometimes debates get started because of that but she reels them back in a balanced, respectful way. Also really like her fashion sense:)
She is closed minded in her teaching and teaches what she agrees with. I got a good grade because it's easy to figure out her views and she seemed cool at first but I do not recommend
Do not take!! Goes over required material but gets off track often to discuss politics and can seem condescending at times.
Very cool professor. Would take again and would recommend.
Good subject, bad teacher. Dont recommend
This class is ok but could be better. The Professor tends to polarize the class with their political views and opinions. If your looking for a class where you will not have to compromise your values and beliefs for a grade, then this is not the class for you.
She is AMAZING! Definitely challenged me to think outside the box, which I would have not done on my own. Teaches a very touchy subject EXTREMELY well.
Bit on the liberal side but a really good professor irregardless of that. Also helped me with finding information about a World Bank internship.
Didnt think Id like the class, especially with it being a huge class, but Dr. Bryant made it feel personal and engaging. Learned tons about real world problems.
In the opposite of the reviewer below (who seems to have reviewed over and over again in the last couple days from the looks of the site), YES JUST YES! Take her! Prof. Bryant is super knowledgeable and very nonjudgmental. This is my FIFTH class with her, and shes the only professor Ive taken that many classes from. Favorite professor!
I gave her a '4' on difficulty because if you have never had this type of class that talks about so many controversy subjects its super hard at first to get outta how you grew up and those beliefs btu i went to her office hours and she took all the time i needed to explain. picked up a soc minor bc her class.
Awesome teacher!! She is AMAZING
Class wasnt bad, but lectures did seem long sometimes. Ms. Bryant is a solid teacher though and she gives good real world examples.
Professor Bryant is a good teacher, but do not expect her to follow the syllabus at all. I am a pretty organized person and was kind of thrown off by the fact that we never followed what the topic was supposed to be for the week. The group project was kind of annoying, and she'd choose random people to get extra credit which didn't seem fair to me
Im glad I listened to my friends and took Professor B. For 101. Shes funny, the material is pretty interesting unless you live under a rock and she gives study guides before exams. Easy class.
Shes incredibly nice and understanding if you speak with her. Her tests are not difficult if you pay attention to what she says in lectures and shes fair when it comes to grading.
Not a huge fan of this class, guidelines and requirements for tests/projects were not very clear. Additionally, criticism given on projects was not very "constructive" and came off as patronizing.
Class is easy, but she's kind of a hard-ass so make sure you listen to her rules and read the syllabus. Takes attendance randomly, so go to class but you don't really have to pay attention. Tests are easy if you review your notes but sometimes inconsistent with what she said would be on them or badly written. Gives some EC at the end of semester
Best professor Ive ever had. Its obvious she really cares about her students and is passionate about the work she does. Two thumbs up from me.
She is very knowledgable on her subject and that often comes off as condescending. Her class is interesting and not difficult, sometimes she just makes it difficult to get through. Randomly takes attendance and often more than it says in her syllabus. Easy class, not a fan of professors teaching style. Content of class was important.
Shes really cool and talks about touchy subjects in a balanced, relatable way. Its not an easy class because you have to use critical thinking. But use the study guides she gives for tests and the slides she posts and youll be fine.
i am a sociology minor but did really not enjoy this class. The grading is v clear and if you pay attention its easy to get an A but the professor delivered the content in almost a rude manner
class is graded toughly ad material is hard to understand
as long as you show up and study for the tests (study guide provided) you will pass
Teaches the material very well and just an all around nice lady. Pretty funny too.
Love Professor B. Knows her stuff and lectures but also encourages a lot of discussion.
She was not very available outside class and did not teach the content very well that was on tests.
By far one of the worst teachers I've had at UA. Lots of different opinions are held by students in a class like this, but hers are superior. She was unnecessarily rude when I tried to meet with her outside of class, and not much better when information was unclear in class. Really wish there was someone else to take this class with.
Mrs. Bryant is a very passionate teacher. You can really tell she wants students to learn. There is 1 huge research paper due at the end of the year. Tests are easy, but she expects in class discussions every day
Believe the hype! Shes funny, knowledgeable and passionate. One of the best Ive had at UA. Def take CJ 303 from her if you get the chance.
Her energy is so dope. I wish the paper wouldve been explained a little more but she did make use of some feedback she asked us for and got the library lady to come talk to us so that was helpful. All in all, I learned a lot and wouldnt hesitate to take her again.
Great teacher. Study guides make tests a breeze and roughy 40% of your grade is just showing up and posting to the discussion board. Lectures interesting for the most part bc they cover things that are happening in the world.
Professor Bryant is a very nice lady, but as a teacher she falls short. Her lectures don't relate much to the test. She will randomly take attendance and it counts for 50 points of your grade. She only gives points for attendance, tests, and 5 point discussion questions every Sunday that are hard to remember to do.
Great teacher, handles the sensitive subjects with great respect and caring. Lets everyone speak in the class, even if they have differing opinions. If you speak enough in class she'll remember your name which is a really cute detail in a class of like 200.
Ms. Bryant is a great professor and does a really great job with keeping students engaged. She also brings real world events up a lot, which helps in understanding the material from a real world perspective. All in all, a really great class.
I loved Professor Bryant! One of the smartest people I have ever met. She cares more about you understanding the material than giving lots of work. She is a clear communicator and she is super caring. She sometimes takes a while to email back, but if you remind her she'll get to you. Definitely take her class she's literally amazing.
easy class. she gives out study guides for each test. just kind of rude when you talk to her one on one. really enjoyed the class though and learned a lot
Dr. Bryant was an amazing teacher. I loved her lectures. She incorporates real world events and relates them back to the topic on hand. She is also big on class discussion and gives extra points for participating. The study guide that she gives for the tests are the best. Her study guides are basically the test word for word.
I can not say enough good things about Professor Bryant. She is absolutely amazing! She not only cares about her students, but she cares that we actually learn the material and incorporate it into our every day lives. For a class based on race and crime, she made sure every person was heard and understood. I hope to take her again for CJ 304!
She is incredible! Her discussion based classes really make the material come alive. Because the classes are so discussion heavy everyone would get a little nervous around test time but she would always say I got yall and sure enough she made sure we had so many resources and would alter her test format to fit how our material needed.
My friend suggested I take Dr. Bryant. To say she is amazing is truly an understatement. You can tell she cares about her profession and her students. I never thought a class with such sensitive and quite frankly volatile material could be handled with such inclusivity and grace. I learned in her class and also feel I am a better person bc of it.
I had Professor Bryant Spring 2020. Before we had to go home for COVID, she was a fantastic lecturer, she makes her classes as interactive as possible and is most concerned about letting students share their opinions. Prof B made the transition to online simple and straight forward and was accommodating to all circumstances. Participation helps
Show up for class, pay attention and you will do fine. Lecture heavy but she makes it interesting. If you have questions, ask and you will find she is very helpful.
Professor B is one of the most outgoing and genuine professors that I have had in my undergraduate. She's honest, truthful and caring. The course was a writing course but she cares more about her students. As long as you show up and do some slight reading you'll make it through. Also, don't step on my girl's toes; She cares but she knows her power.
I like professor Bryant, she doesnt over complicate the class. She is also very knowledgeable about what she is teaching, and offered great feedback on paper topics. She is fair and helpful. She offered a good bit of extra credit opportunities as well.
Chenoia Bryant is an outstanding professor, not only does she provide very thorough lectures but she also is very understanding during these uncommon times and is always available whenever you need help or clarification on whatever you need assistance with. Prof Bryant wants to see everyone succeed and have every opputunity to pass.
Amazing professor. I took her for CJ 303 and she is still the same and she was then. She is willing to work with you as long as you are working with her. Do not expect more when you are giving out less because she does not operate like that which no professor should. She gives clear-cut instructions and a reasonable timeframe to do assignments.
I have Ms. Bryant for Gender and Crime, a criminal justice class. She is one of the coolest professors I have had and she is very knowledgable. I have her for an online summer class due to the pandemic. She has made it so easy for us to reach her, even when she has her own things to deal with. I would gladly take her again if given the opportunity.
This is probably the third class I have had with her, and am taking another in the fall. She is a really caring professor, with her students and the material. She alwaywas goes above and beyond to help students do good. Overall, the classes, and tests, are super easy if you read what you are supposed to and pay attention.
I had Ms. Bryant for CJ 304 this summer. She is a great professor and her lectures are great especially if you are interested in Gender and Crime. She is very easy to understand and does care for her students!
Professor Bryant is hilarious and super easy going. She sometimes was hard to get ahold of but was always willing to listen to you when you did get to talk to her. Super understanding of kids needs and very clear on what she wants from you in assignments. Gives good feedback & offers extra credit! Would definitely take her again!
Hands-down one of the best professors at the University of Alabama. As a white woman, I learned so much in her black feminist thought class. I feel I will use all the knowledge I gained in her course for the rest of my life. You cant say that about many classes you take in college in my opinion.
You can tell she actually loves what she teaches, and that love for the material is translated through the ways she teaches and cares about her students. Loved the material and loved the teacher even more. Def one of the best!
she is so sweet and super caring! textbook is online on access granted. very clear about everything and extremely understanding. take her if you can! our class was completely online so i kinda wish i could have heard her lecture bc shes such a sweet/interesting person!!
Prof. Bryant is an absolute gem. Class itself was super easy. Prof. Bryant was very accommodating and made every effort to respond to emails in a timely fashion and resolve any issues students may have had.
