She is the worst teacher I have ever had
She taught us like we were three years old.
I thought I was going to die in her class...
She taught us b.s math that took up valuable time.
Got i can't stand the lady! completely nuts!
boring
she means well but unforttunatly is extremely boring. the good thing is that she doesnt mind if you miss class as long as you do allright on the tests-- the stuff is easy but shes a very picky grader
good teacher if you know your stuff
Class can be boring but she is really helpful when you go to her office hours.
Monotone voice will drive you insane. Knows what she is talking about but seems to have the inability to express it. She is very nice but she is also very odd. Her lessons may confuse those who have no background in the class.
first i must say it is a hard class and her inability to explain things only makes it worst. She only gives out good grades to make herself feel good which sucks when you get to Calc 2.
I liked her a lot. I don't know about higher levels of math, but for 102 she was good.
i readlly did not enoy the class
Thinking Mathematically was a frustrating course, but Dr. Boyd was more than willing to help students if they had any questions. She is not always clear, but she is very approachable and is happy to help students.
She never comes to class or hands back work on time
THIS CLASS WAS WRITING INTENSIVE GOOD GOD!
*Smoldering Eyes* your better off going to math center and teaching yourself
she's a pretty bad teacher... i feel stupid walkin out of her class
AWFUL TEACHER
Most unprofessional professor ever. She feels no need to come to class on time. I personally have given up coming on time and she never knows because she is never there earlier than 5 min. late. If you can help it, stay away from her.
Dr. Boyd is wonderful! She's understanding and helpful. These other ratings must be from people who EARNED failing grades! You try -- she helps!
I was sooo excited to take this class, but she just isn't a professor for me. She doesn't know what students could get confused on and therefore doesn't teach the material very well. I did go for help with this class, and it helped. Sometimes her tests were unreasonable. The amount of time it took her to hand back stuff was absolutely unacceptable.
my favorite thing? when you ask her a question, she looks just as confused as you do.
She doesn't seem to ever know what is going on. Half the time I left class more confused than I was when I got there.
Cheri is extremely nice. However she can't lecture, is extremely disorganized, and runs a horrible class. Don't take her if can avoid it. Otherwise, you can do very well, but it's all on your own, despite her teaching abilities. Don't expect her to be on time, or give back HW this month/year! Her tests are fair but tuff! Overall unprofessional.
She never comes to class on time, and always keeps you late. When you ask a question, she seems to have no clue. Also, don't expect to EVER get things back when she says you will!
Overall decent class if you want to teach yourself. She's never on time, doesn't hand anything back, gives impossible tests, and doesn't explain Anything.
She takes forever to give you any quizzes or tests back. The only thing she gives back on time is homework because she's so lazy and disorganized she doesn't even grade it herself. You have to teach everything to yourself because she just writes things on the board and doesn't explain anything and just kind of mumbles to herself. She's terrible!
She is honestly the worst teacher I have ever had!! I can't believe I actually had to pay to be taught by her. She never graded anything and only ended up teaching less than half of the course because we "ran out of time." If she wasn't so unorganized we would have gotten so much more done. I can't believe she is going to be the dept. head!!!!
She was not a good teacher. She lechtures really poorly and is very unorganized. How will she be chair next year. In the end of the semester i went to her alot for help and it was ok. Nover hands back papers on time, and we did a project and got it back like 2-3 weeks later. Really borning class, hope i pass. Dont' take a class from her
Never comes to class on time, never hands anything back on time, SO disorganized, I ask her a question and she doesn't have time, lectures from computer and is confusing, doesn't do examples of problems
The good: offers office hours and extra help often, somewhat easy of a teacher. The bad: doesn't do anything...she's extremely lazy and never comes to class on time, doesn't explain concepts well, doesn't grade anything within a reasonable time, just overall a confusing and oblivious woman with a low, monotone voice
She is the least helpful, rudest professor I've ever had. Her lectures were fairly clear-but seeking help outside of class is impossible. She doesn't respond to emails, & makes rude comments about not understanding the material. Why did she become a professor if she doesn't like to help? It's embarassing that she's head of the Math department.
I am embarrassed to have Sheri as the head of the math dept. She is honestly the worst teacher I have ever had and I have never disliked a major class this much before. She know the material, but is so disorganized that the class never gets the information that they need. She is CRAZY!
horrible experience with cheri. never take a class with her!
Math has always been difficult for me. My first day of class I knew she'd be terrible; I could tell by her monotone voice. You can go to her for extra help all you want for this course but the only thing she will do is question you more about your thinking. She did not make things any easier being a freshman entering college. AVOID HER AT ALL COSTS
PLEASE.DO.NOT.TAKE.THIS, She mumbles for notes, and is more confused than you are. High school teachers are more qualified than her. She makes an easy class 10 times more difficult. She does however increase your grades since a student grades all the work.
She is very disorganized and very rarely responds to your emails. She did not require us to have a textbook because she thought they were all too expensive, which was nice, but her teaching is extremely confusing and as writing intensive as a math course could be.
Idk... She's a bad teacher, but she tells you the questions that will be on the test, study them hard and take your time on the homework and you could get an A like me. I didn't listen to her though, she's useless..
Confusing and disorganized. She is patronizing and I feel as though she intentionally makes it difficult to follow the content, when it could be easier. Don't expect clear answers to questions either. But she is the head of the math department. Every class submits terrible reviews of her, but nothing changes.
Cheri is a tough teacher on those who do not put in the work but she overall is an easy teacher if you pay attention in class and do the homework. She drops lowest grades and lets you know your average almost all semester. I would recommend her if you are a hard working student.
Very nice and helpful teacher. HOWEVER, she is extremely disorganized and mumbles in a monotone voice about all the problems. She rarely knows what she is talking about and makes easy concepts hard to understand. The tests are fairly easy BUT you have to teach yourself.
One of the worst professors i have ever had. I wish the math board would fire her, except she is the know it all director. I hope to God no one ever has her.
Mumbles, very disorganized and unclear. Sometimes a difficult grader.
Sadly ALL of the reviews are true! She is the definition of a bad teacher. She talks very light and mumbles for the whole class period. She gives busy work as homework and you'll more than likely will be teaching yourself. If you have to take her class make should it isn't too early or too late because you will surely fall asleep.
She's very disorganized, gives way too much group work, never actually answers questions, and gives nothing but busy work. Thinks her class is the only one that matters. No textbook; she made us print out over 300 pages of a workbook instead. What a waste of paper and time, as well as the school's resources. Avoid her if you can help it.
Coming from Pre-Calc to Thinking Mathematically was a big change. Things that should've been simple were made a lot more complicated than needed. There are 4 group projects that are graded very heavily on. Make sure you pick your partners wisely as you meet with them. It's a 100 page printable book in which you do hw from daily and put on the board
Literally the worst class I have taken! I was forced into it my first semester and hated every minute of it. I went to her office hours and she whispered to the paper in front of her ad i left with more questions then I came in with!
-ask for help and she will ask you questions, just to make you leave more confused - do the course pack problems she writes in the daily agenda and the quizzes should be easy - pick your group carefully, you can change groups but it will hurt you if you don't early in the semesters -nice person but can't teach a non math major
it feels more like an english/literature class than a math class. and don't even try to ask for a problem, shes going to talk to you about it but you will end up without no answer
She is very particular with her answers, on the quiz and projects you need to do it exactly how she wants or you will fail. If you ask her a question, she does not help, and you will leave more confused than when you started.
Cheri Boyd is a nice woman. Unfortunately, her teaching is sub par. If you're expecting to be taught material and tested on it accordingly, don't. She will give you problems from a lengthy (literally 119 pages) packet that you will complete, you'll do a group project which you will likely get no help on and a poor grade. I would never recommend her
Cheri, does not teach her classes and instead uses class time slowing talking to herself or the board. In times of tests, quizzes or projects she rushes course content leaving the class confused. She does not grade her assignments and has a grader do her work. Also, she hands back extremely late even if you need graded hw for an upcoming test.
Gives tons of tests and quizzes and takes forever to grade them. Tons of homework. Awful professor... doesn't know how to teach. Very frustrating class.
I had the worst time in her class. She isn't clear in her lectures and talks in circles when you go and ask for help on test questions. She isn't good at communicating and isn't good at teaching. She expects you to think how she does and to get the point she's trying to make, but her questions are vague and not helpful. She takes forever to grade.
This professor is one of the most frustrating teachers Ive ever had. Every time I go to class I feel anxious because I already know shes going to spend most of the class staring at the board in her monotone voice talking about random things. she doesnt teach you anything and has a STUDENT grade our hw and projects!! UNEXEPTABLE!!
Literally one of the most boring women I have ever taken a class from. She's such a sweetheart, but she talks in a quiet, monotone voice that you can easily drone out. I have showed up to the class a total of 7 times and have a B+. It isn't a hard class to take, just a hard class to stay awake in.
She is the absolute worst. She lectures all class, but not about anything relevant. Even if you know how to do the questions you will get bad grades. She is rude, not helpful, and not understanding. Never take this teacher, you will be constantly frustrated and angry. Know matter how much you work or go to office hours expect bad grades.
This class was absolutely terrible. I would never recommend this class or this professor to anyone. The grading system is completely illogical as she grades students on the way they present and organize their work and points are easily taken off for things an average student wouldn't think would be an issue.
Literally doesnt even teach. She stands in front of the classroom and rants about entirely irrelevant topics and scrolls through a notes page; oh, and she teaches herself how to do the problems as she teaches us but gets basic math wrong half the time. Students basically teach her how to do her own course work. Also is super monotone and bland.
she is the worst professor I literally have ever had. She doesn't do anything. She doesn't even grade our own work, she makes a student do it. She stands in the front of the class talking about irrelevant stuff that won't benefit me at all. I learned nothing from this class. If anything, I lost a few brains cells. Won't take her classes again.
she makes absolutely no sense. and that's the tea sis
Hardest class I have ever taken. Ever heard of a math essay twice a week? Yeah no me either, well I didn't until this class that is. She also doesn't know her own material so how am I supposed to know it. JUST DON'T TAKE IT!
Im missing about 75% of my grades because she doesnt grade things herself, she lectured about remedial topics and useless information, never gave a direct answer to my questions, and she doesnt seem to know how to use her own statistical programs. She asked us questions about them. Be in class or not. You get the same amount of info either way..
Can only speak for the stats visualization course: Pros: I got a job in research, right after college, using the data projects Boyd assigned. I showed them to my interviewer, and she hired me on the spot. Cons: ALOOOTT of self-teaching. Thankfully, I was taking other programming classes at the same time. YouTube will be your best friend.
None stop talking. What she says goes and you can never go to her to ask a question because she will just answer with a question. She likes decide whats best for your work groups not the work group itself.
Every class she would promise to grade things and would just never do it the whole year. She would only grade things she would HAVE to grade (like tests and quizzes), the group projects were so hard. You would ask a question and she just wouldn't have an answer, and would response with a question. Also, she tells the tutors they can't help us.
absolute trash class
Cheri absolutely made me want to ram my head against a brick wall every class. She does not stop talking and half the time didn't even know how to solve the problem herself. She couldn't remember our names if her life depended on it and talked about random things not pertaining to the actual class. She's a hard grader for someone who barely teaches
If you can avoid her, please do.
Don't take her. If you are an incoming freshman and had your schedule made and you have her just drop it and choose a new class. She is horrible with grading, we are 2 months into the semester and she hasn't put a single grade into Moodle except the attendance grade which is out of 2 points. She grades assignments and tests harshly. Don't take her.
Should be the easiest class you ever take but she makes it impossible due to poor communication and awful teaching. I still haven't gotten back a homework I handed in the first week. I got a "U" for the mid term grade yet had no grade in Moodle except for attendance and it makes no sense why I shouldn't have had a passing grade. Don't take
By far the worst professor I have come across at Naz. Barely knows her right from left, let alone her own curriculum. She loves to hear herself talk yet has not actually taught a single thing all semester. Hasnt graded a thing, ill be darned if I know if im passing or not and theres 3 weeks left in the semester. Run if you have her as a prof.
If you communicate with her and are putting in the effort she will work with you to pass. I have had to miss several classes and she has made it very easy for me to get work to her on time. And, I have gone to a lot of her office hours and was very helpful. If you work with her, she will be more than happy to work with you. Just put in the effort.
A nice woman who wants her students to succeed. Makes her office hours times very known. Daily homework is collected so always come to class with a practice question done (textbook online). She also requires a couple presentations, which were unnecessary in my opinion. Does talk quite a bit. Class was overall boring, but it really was an easy A.
I hate math, and Dr. Boyd made this math class easy. She's very nice and will work with you outside of class to help you understand and get your grades up. As long as you participate and stay focused, the class isn't bad. There is a heavy homework load though.
Never have this Professor. She is too old to still be working here. I have asked her multiple questions and she never answered them. This could have been such an easy class, but she never explained the work or anything.
She doesn't stay on topic nor talk about relevant topics during class time. We once sorted m and ms and she did not give us reasons for why we are doing it. Pointless class and no point to put in effort because she isn't talking about relevant stuff.
Very bad at teaching. doesn't even grade the work herself and when you get it back there isn't any explanation on why you get it wrong. Her grades in moodle are only participation and that's not even a grade. you only know your grade at midterms with a spreadsheet she sends to you. She also doesn't prepare you at all for any tests and quizzes.
doesn't teach the class a lot of work lengthy projects doesn't grade anything on time doesn't talk about the work or go over the lessons talks about things that has nothing to do with the class
she doesn't teach class. she talks to herself. also cannot be reached outside of class. sent her over 6 emails never to be answered. worst math professor ever
Her lectures make no sense and I am over halfway through the semester and don't know a single thing about my grade or what it could be. I have emailed her multiple times about things throughout the semester and has never even acknowledged one.
Cheri is the most disorganized professor I have ever had. I am a junior in college taking 300-400 level classes yet her Math 109 class is much more difficult due to her lack of organization and explanations. She does not clearly explain what we are doing and does not teach in class which leaves her students to fend for themselves. Awful!
Cheri Boyd does not care about her job or the success of her students. I hope you don't want grades back in a timely manner with feedback because that will not happen in her class. She never responds to emails and goes on random tangents in class about things that are unimportant. Avoid at all costs and hopefully her job is terminated.
I know she had a tough semester but she is just so unorganized. Was supposed to send us our grades in October, and never did until today. The projects were way too lengthy for what we actually need to get out of this class for our majors. She is nice, and wants to help students, but she needs to simplify things so that she can get more done.
Professor Boyd is the only professor I've had to continue to use paper handouts, which created a lot of confusion and disorganization. This paired with her lack of teaching in general made this class insufferable. I can safely say I learned nothing. Please avoid at all costs.
I know she had a rough semester, but we probably had class like half of the semester and had projects that were insanely specific and got no feedback on until the last few days of the semester so we had no idea what to do for the final project. I do not recommend taking her class.
The class I took with her is "flipped classroom," so you take notes from the PowerPoints she posts (she never has the lecture videos posted in the LMS on time. They were consistently two weeks late (aka useless).), then do the homework from the book yourself, and you only get her help on the semester-long project. Horrible teaching style.
Cheri is a horrible teacher. When asked to clarify a question or problem, all she does is go "hmm" before starting on a tangent that solves nothing. She spends over half of the class yapping about things we a) already know or b) are completely irrelevant. She expects you to do most, if not all, of the work required outside of her class. Terrible.
She is extremely unhelpful outside of class, gets annoyed when you go to talk to her, and never answers emails. She is constantly talking and has consistently wasted class. Talks condescendingly. I would not take this class with her, taking calculus would be better for any human being than being in this class with her as your professor.
Cheri Boyd is not a good instructor. She has given 0 grades since the beginning of the semester, and with quiz grades she gives back, she expects us to calculate our own grades. She expects us to spend 12-14 hours a week outside of class doing the work, which is not possible. She talks all class long, and barely gives time for us to do work
After taking this class, I'm not sure why she's employed at a university, because she really doesn't teach. Her "lectures" are just droning on about the schedule, and if she deigns to cover a math topic, it's when you covered that topic weeks ago. You have to attend class for a grade, and she requires A LOT of group work outside of class. 0/10.
I took think mathematically with her this last semester. She only put in 3 grades the whole semester. When the grades were due she did not put them in until 2 days after they were due. She gave maybe 6 grades out the whole year. She still never put our actual grades into moodle.
The first day I got to class, I crashed out. I had to walk out of the classroom before smoke started coming out of my ears, as I wasn't sure if Cheri was talking to herself or the class. It is halfway through the semester, and our first grade just entered. Most of our class time is spent rambling about the schedule or syllabus.
I don't think she deserves 56 awful reviews. Her lectures might put me to sleep, but she gives great resources if you can teach yourself the subjects. During her lectures, she talks the entire time with no participation. She is very organized but consistentLY boring. I've had to miss her class many times due to sports and she always understands.
She is just sooooo borrrinnng. I didn't even go to class, and if I did I would do other homework instead of listening. It's way easier and takes way less time to teach yourself the material on your own. She also never ever grades anything. Her classes aren't hard though and she is actually a really sweet person but she is gosh darn boring.
Cheri Boyd's class is highly disorganized. Lectures are unclear, feedback is scarce, and grading is delayed. However, using unstuckstudy and the textbook can help offset the poor teaching. Overall, a difficult class, but manageable with self-study.
this was the worst experience of my life. would not recommend to anyone.
Very boring lectures and would not recommend taking any class with her. Doesn't seem to be well-versed in the material. Literally take anybody else.
Very disappointing that I had her as my professor for stats. I have had an extremely hard time learning from her lectures. If you are not very confident with this material, try and take the class with someone else. She is very nice but I would definitely not recommend taking this class as it feels like you have to learn everything on your own.
Worst class and professor I've ever had. Not only did students not learn anything, but we were tested on material that was not taught. In addition, there are no grades for the work we have completed, and they are not posted in Moodle during the semester. I do not recommend this class or the professor to anyone who attends Nazareth University.
very limited information/you have to teach yourself. Grades are never posted. You would receive quizzes back but they were not imputed into Moodle so it's a guess for what the overall grade is. Would also complain how nobody sent her quizzes to check but when they were sent, would not give feedback back until 10:30 at night the day before it is due
She made class very difficult to follow, her directions were not Clear. She is not a teacher, nor should she be. She doesn't care, and does not want to help students when they need it. Genuinely the worst professor I have ever had. She did not teach us and graded us harshly on the exams where we pretty much had to teach ourselves.
As a math major, I have taken FOUR classes with this disgrace to education. (linear, structures, geometry, and stats) It's all true. Every word. Cheri, if you're out there, reading this, I think you know who I am. You have been an awful professor for at least 23 years. Naz clearly is not firing you any time soon. I think it's time you reflect.
Does not post grades (you are guessing your average), very boring lectures where she just yaps. Would not recommend taking a class with her. She doesn't answer emails and makes life boring.
Overall, I would not recommend this professor. While she is friendly, she struggles to clearly explain the material, and much of what is covered in class is not well demonstrated. It's possible to succeed in the course, but it largely requires teaching yourself outside of class.
Can't say I agree with these other reviews. Dr. Boyd is very clear on her grading criteria, specifically in MTH 102, and explains the material well, oftentimes showing examples for solutions. MTH 102 is full of many brain-teaser-like problems and group work where we have the ability to run our answers through with other students.
Absolutely awful professor and class. Takes forever to put grades in and never helps you understand what your actually doing in class. Tries to lecture but never actually teaches.
She is very kind and wants her students to succeed however she is very difficult to actually learn from. She mumbles a lot, most of the time you can't really understand what she's saying. She tries to lecture but she doesn't know how. You will end up having to teach yourself most of the material. She was available for office hours which helps.
Professor Boyd really does try to teach, but cannot get the concepts through. We had a quiz once a week on topics we barely learned about. The project throughout the class isn't horrible and she is available for office hours if needed and will help you a lot in them. doesn't have clear grading rubric, will mark off points for wrong spelled words.
Absolutely terrible. Gave homework every class, and the grade on the homework goes towards the grade, but she will not grade and give feedback until the very last second. She is also just extremely boring, she's nearly inaudible, and I learned nothing. The only time I could tolerate being in her class is when I ate an edible and greened out.
