Certainly not hot...required course so good luck...lots of work but she will help you provided you are in reverence of her knowledge. Not too bad, you'll be very relieved when it's over!
I love the way Evans teach. I wish all professors in chem department use the same strategy as hers. She is very fair in terms of exams. The amount of work is pretty heavy. But if you are doing her hw and all assignments, trust me you will get an A.
I am glad its over. I got my life back.
She was so scary. And she was mean. And she was moody. And sometimes disrespectful. and sometimes she would be nice, but her meanness would come back with a vengence. Sit in the back row, and bring a cactus!
She is very boring, makes elementary mistakes on basic chem. Avoid at all costs.
The lecture is only minimally helpful with the course because of overlooked topics and the lack of enthusiasm in the class. Textbook is use in number 1 in this class and tests are a little above average in difficulty. Overall, if you get this class, be aware of the amount of studying that has to be done in order to get a good grade.
she is really bad, because she doesn't know how to teach, and she made a lot of mistakes in class. if you want to learn something and have a good grade, do not take her class
She is the worst teacher in the school.
The most horrible teacher alive. Take it from a straight A student, run very far away from her. She cannot teach for her life. If you ask her a question, she makes you feel stupid. By the way the person who wrote that postive comment is Professor Evans herself. Haha! Professor Evans, you have to start coming up with better ideas, students know bett
This is from a student who cares about other students.(graduated).Anyone who is taking this course is strongly advised to only take a total of 12 credits inclusive, and hire a tutor for help in problems in areas that u have difficulty because the course moves quickly and thorough understanding is crucial(it decides whether u earn a B or A).Peace.
This is the worst professor i have ever gotten in my lifetime. She has no passion for teaching, and is extreamly moody. She has limitted student contact time and doesnt make an effort to help u even when asked. her lectures are useless. And she is the only professor who is too good to have office hours. If you have a GPA of 4 then risk taking her!!
worst teacher i ever had. Shes useless and going to class didnt teach me anything i learned everything from the book alone. The amount of work she assigns each week is ridiculous. Her tests are difficult and long. shes not nice when you ask her questions. dont take this class youll probably fail. and if youre a good student normally ull get a B-
I dreaded this class passionately.Terrible teacher. Tries to explain things at times, but generally never goes all the way through a problem. Gives homework prior to teaching the material. She likes to speak about her own life rather than actually teach chemistry. Promised curves were forgotten even though the class average on a test was once 40/10
This lecture class was a waste of life. I eventually stopped going because I never learned anything, she made a billion mistakes every time she did a problem, and it was much more useful to just use that time to study the textbook myself. I taught myself and did alright but overall this class involves a lot of work and Evans isn't helpful.
Dr. Evans gives you everything you need to pass, except doesn't do the work for you. If you are just out of high school this course is not for you. You must study, ask questions, and attend class. The entire semst was laid out with exaclty what it would take for and A,B,C etc. Last if you want to be great at Chem then this is the class but study
Look at the rest of her ratings here. Everyone is in agreement that she is terrible. She simply is the most terrible teacher you can get. Why would you even consider taking her if EVERYONE here is warning you not to??? In addition to all that stuff everyone said, they forgot to mention that you have a 7 pg lab rprt evry week aside frm the rglr q's.
Professor Evans IS bad - but if you're stuck with her, here are a few pointers: come to lecture! she didn't curve one of the tests because too many people were always absent. Do the homework early! Don't leave it to the last minute, because it IS hard. Do the labs! Don't miss recitation! Evans is terrible - but that doesn't mean you should be.
It was a complete waste of time. I barely learned anything. Homework questions and study review sessions did not help on the tests. I definitely would not recommend her.
i have never despised someone more in my life. terrible teacher. did not teach me anything. was obnoxious when asked questions. gives useless work. does not curve when the whole class fails (which is every test). she should be fired.
Avoid her if you don't need to take her. Gives difficult/time consuming useless work. Your on your own when it comes to learning. Doesn't really help you with your questions. You will have to live and breathe chemistry while trying to balance out your other classes. If you can learn by yourself then go for it.
can not teach. horrible. short tempered. gets angry easily. take her if you want to get your gpa dropped
guys from chem114 spring 09, yes, she doesnot have good tepper but didn't we have a lot of extra credit questions to help to improve grade, also exam 3 was exactly from the practise problem. I mean what do you need more! For people take this web serious, think about it, if get a low great means the prof is not good, how come people still can get A+
I got a good grade, but it was beyond a hassle. Professor is unhelpful. Goes of on tangents rather than sticking to material. Tests are not too hard, but are too long. Labs are too involved for a genchem class and lab grading is confusing. Absolutely avoid at all costs. Don't take my word for it - every other review on this page castigates her.
I took her for 113 and 114. Tough class. VERY demanding, but to be fair, it isn't impossible to get an A. A lot of the kids that complain don't put in the work required. I learned more by myself reading the textbook than attending lectures.
Please do not take this professor, if you want to do well and get A.I agree with the others, she is not a good prof..I regret taking her.
This woman is absolutely horrible. She requests all assignments on time yet she never puts up any of the labs for students on time. Yet the chemistry department keeps rehiring her. People are paying money for this class and they want good grades for Medical School, but with this woman lab impossible. She is the most miserable and horrible person.
She recently divorced. Now, she has really bad tempered. Try to avoid her class.
Horrible! The meanest woman ever! She takes off points for doing anything. 0.5 points takes off for mostly anything like not writing the date. Shes not even an instructor shes just a mean lady that never posts anything on blackboard. She took off 25 points from my final for small mistake. She wants everyone to become bitter like her.
She gives you a ridiculous amount of stupid assignments that take up so much of your time you hardly have time to study for exams. Doesn?t like to talk to students or help them. The amount of work you need to put in to this class (due to all the unnecessary useless assignments) to get a good grade is ridiculous.
she is the worst teacher i have ever take. not helpful at all. gives tons of homework. don't take her class if don't have to. If you stuck, good luck!!!
Received an "A". Not as bad as the other ratings rate her 2 be. You have to work for it, tough grader. No curves, but numerous bonus pts thru out the semester. Timing is key w her- I would start studying a week or 2 in advance w work in the weekends. Show you care, don't nag. If you're not doing well by the 1st exam-drop! Focus on the Textbook!
Good professor, just a bit disorganized in her lectures. Lots of extra credit! Tests are easy if you STUDY. Easy to talk to, will help if you ask.
Lots of work for the Chem 1134
Most rate my professor comments are extreme, but not in the case of Cherice. She lacks knowledge in even the most basic areas of chemistry and can not be reasoned with due to her inferiority complex. I refuse to aknowledge that she has a PhD and will refer to her as Cherice. The title of Doctor and professor is a privledge no a joke, like her.
She has no patience for students. She reprimanded a student who asked about a math-related chem question and told them to "Go back to algebra." When it comes to her limited knowledge, she can't support it scientifically, despite boasting about "what scientists do." And most of all, one question is spent per lecture and nothing else. Don't take her
I don't think she's that bad. I'm doing well as of now. She assigns Aleks homework and use that! Aleks is the way to get an A/B in her class. Do your homework (and don't save it for last minute) because it really impacts your grade. She gets all her test questions from Aleks so do the review questions. Her lectures don't make sense but ALEKS HELPS!
Well, the course isn't hard, but she's definitely not the best one at teaching. Gives bonus questions all the time. Exams are graded clearly. Do your online homework! ALEKS is extremely helpful, which is 25% of your grade! She's not mean, and you can easily talk to her after the class, and she's not that bad as people say here.
If you want a good GPA or want to get into Med School DONT TAKE HER. she doesn't teach, only talks about her own research projects, and her tests are hard. She expects us to teach ourselves from our homework but her tests are nothing like it. I feel bad for giving her such a low rating, she's not too bad of a person, but AVOID HER IF YOU CAN.
The only way you could pass is by doing homework and extra credit, and teaching yourself the course material. Attending lectures was a useless waste of time, most of the class stopped showing up halfway through the semester. Exams were difficult and often featured material never covered. Overall, I would not recommend her to my worst enemy.
Emphasized the homework waaaay too much. Tests were gibberish compared to what you were taught in class and for homework.
She's not that bad. I mean, I didn't have trouble with her at least. She heavily emphasizes ALEKS for HW, it's 25% of the grade, but you learn a lot from it. She gives tons of bonus points, so take advantage of those. The exams aren't that hard if you are able to conceptualize the topics in your head by using ALEKS and Connect for practice.
This is chem folks. It's a tough class and even tougher to teach. She loves using ALEKS as a hw/ learning guide but its the BEST THING EVER. If you do your homework and just make sure to do it right and put the work in (not just try to finish it asap) then you will be A OK.
Pchem is notoriously known as the hardest chemistry course. If you're not willing to put in the necessary work (which is a lot), then you are not going to do well in the class. For that matter, you shouldn't go into the sciences. It was the hardest thing I've ever done but I'm grateful that I took the class with her. Character building.
course was unorganized. required you to teach yourself everything thru aleks, which u had to buy. this was very time consuming and stressful as aleks is a very tedious system, lectures were unhelpful, inaccessible out of class. do not recommend
The way she formats her class is by mostly using Connect and ALEKS for hw, reading and assessments, SO they are both mandatory in order to pass! If you're lazy do not take this professor because you need to put in the amount of time and work it takes to complete ALEKS and Connect. It is A LOT of work but if you're diligent you will survive
Shes honestly not bad but you need to put in a lot of work. If you miss the homework youll pretty much get an F. Do all hw and solve the practice exams she gives before the test and you will get a solid A. The hw is mandatory 40% of your grade
Shes is honestly not a bad professor. Just make sure you do you homework because its worth a big chunk of your grade. Her test are pretty easy, and she post questions the day before the test which is very similar to the test questions. Also just make sure you attend recitation and do the work sheets.
On 1st day of class she tried to scare us telling us that we had a certain % chance of passing if we did x, y, or z. Turned out to be pretty friendly and approachable and ready to help. Really passionate about her field. Gives good real life examples but also gets off topic alot Be prepared to do lots of hw bonus and outside work to master material
She is a nice person but not the best professor. Why? Because she cant teach and half the class does not understand what she is teaching. The only reason why I would recommend her is because she gives a lot of extra credit which will bump your grade up. Do the Aleks!! The exams are straight for there.
If you want to actually learn STAY AWAY. She is the reason I am doubting my major. Gets SOOOO off topic during class. Don't even bother showing up to class because you wont learn anything. She just goes on tangents. Moral of the story: if you don't want to doubt your entire chem knowledge, then DO NOT take her. Worst decision I ever made.
Run. RUN. RUN. Each Homework takes 7 hours to complete. I focus more on getting my Homework done than on actually studying the material. She doesnt even teach. She spent the entire lecture talking about random things and only spent 5 minutes teaching. Nobody knows what were learning or what were doing. P
It's true that she does tend to go off topic often in lecture, however most of the learning is in the homework, it's definitely a lot but if you came to learn chem 2 then she's really providing you with all the resources, takes a lot of time to do but actually helps you prepare for orgo. Gave a lot of bonus hw & bonus points in exams
I drive really fast on my way to this class because Id rather get into a car crash than come to this class .her tests are awful and everyone is failing and unsure of what to do because we cant drop this class anymore so our only option is to fail. Her homeworks drive you crazy and her tests are in hieroglyphics
AVOID!! AT ANY COST!!! She gives SO much work for no reason and is an AWFUL professor. She does not know how to teach and gives between 20-40 Aleks topics weekly- is doable if you do not take any other classes and only spend time on her class.
She gave me depression and Ive never been so stressed out. I dont know what to do. Im trying to pass this class ... i hope she gives a curve or has some humanity left in her. Her way of teaching is horrible and she should be fired
She gave us 2 projects due on the day of our exam. Just the equilibrium project required 900 trials and the buffer experiment didnt even make sense. Had to give prepare for exam so ended up handing in things late. Her homeworks are ALEKS with 20-30 topics. Apparently her class is our only class. So yes only take her if ur not taking any other
I swear taking her is like pushing yourself in the depression. Her homeworks are Aleks 20-30 topics each week. Homeworks take about 6+ hours to finish them. And DONT TRUST ON HER STUDY GUIDE!! THAT IS JUST A TRAP. On top of 4 exams and a final, she gives about 4 experiments to do which takes more than a week to finish just one.
Literally the worst professor Ive ever seen not just in Qc, but in general .Just failed her exam because only 10% of the exam is stuff she said will be on it. Take this class if you want a C or lower plain and simple. You wont learn anything and youre gonna study countless hours just to fail . Wish I wouldve dropped when I had the chance
The professor gives you an overwhelmingly high amount of work. The homework that she gives takes at least 6 hours to complete. Lectures are useless. Tests are extremely hard. She assigns us experiments(3 in total) which takes forever to complete. In summary, this class gives you the workload of 5 other classes combined.
From one student to another please don't take this professor. She gives A lot of unnecessay work such as 3 experiments that literally teach us nothing. Exams are beyond difficult, and lecture does nothing to prepare. she takes the whole class time to do one problem and gets off topic . Requires a lot of countless hours of studying to pass her class
The amount of work she gives for her class is INSANE. Its way too much and horrible if youre worried about other classes. The exams are hard and are difficult to achieve in comparison to the supposed study guide she gives us. The ALEKS are absolutely ridiculous and take up such an insane amount of time. Save yourself and avoid her.
The lecture is a mixture of information and tangents that go on for way too long. The homework will teach you more than the actual lecture and the homework will eat up about 7 hours of your week alone. Avoid taking if you have a heavy schedule as this class will take away from many of your other classes as you will spend much of your time here.
Cherice Evans is the worst professor I have ever taken. While QC is known for having some of the worst science professors, she is among the top 3 most wretched people you can take. 5 cumulative tests, literally the most amount of homework you will ever have to do, 3 extra lab experiments given during lecture, and once again, THE HW IS RIDICULOUS!!!
Just do ALL the extra credit and homework and you'll get an A.
thinkin bout her annoying workload filled ahhh class so im giving her a bad review again
took chem 113, 4 exams/1 final (you get to have a cheat sheet, except for the final). Loves to give nomenclature questions on all her exams so i suggest you list them on the cheat sheet. TOUGH CLASS AND EXAMS. You really need to pay attention to the hw because i learned nothing in the lectures.
She's really nice and understanding, yet disorganized. This really throws off the class when it comes to wrapping up with final grades.
Shea a good lecturer but she also does not have good time management as grades and assignments are still at a lost. Very chaotic at a time like now.
There are no grades yet due to the adjustment, she is having with being the director of the program. It would be nice to get another follow-up email, she tries her best but should take help when needed. Insane that it's the end of the semester and she has crap-load of work to figure out. HMNS should have other coordinators to help!
This is a 2 credit class, she is ridiculous with the grading. She took almost two months to grade. No courtesy emails were given after she disappeared, and later she said to stop emailing the provost and dean about it because it would slow down the process/her email. She abused her privilege and everyone is still waiting for grades.
The most disorganized person, and the students suffer. Could not figure out what she wanted us to do, waited until near end of semester to tell us, then changed it again. Was also a TON of writing, nothing to do with actual math/science. Then went AWOL without posting grades. Also rude and obnoxious person. Worst class ever. Hope they replace her!!
I got my grades finally, so I feel okay with her class. She needs to be more organized and avoid abusing her power as the HMNS director-- we understand it is a lot but we do not want grades months later. She is good to speak to for advice in and out of class, and I respect her for that.
Needs to work on being more friendly and professional. Goes on vacation and neglects grades for the Spring semester, everyone got their grade back in Augustish. She is also critical & rude.... maybe not the best fit for HMNS.....
BAD PROFESSOR. SHE DOES NOT UPLOUD LECTURES. THERE ARE OVER 35 LESSONS AND SHE ONLY GOT UP TO LESSON 6! SHE IS INCONSISTENT, NEVER RESPONDS TO EMAILS AND NO HELP WITH ONLINE COURSE. DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PROFESSOR, TAKE SOMEONE ELSE IF YOU HAVE THE OPTION!
terrible asynchronous class. hard for no reason and I don't mean content but platform choice. Microsoft teams over bb ? dumb.
Everyone has stuff to say about Dr. Evans, but they forget she's doing everything for the students. You guys know danm well she gave us a lot of time to do the work for chem 113. There is Aleks, connect, and everything else that was extra credit. She is very understanding and caring. Don't get it twisted. Take the class if you're not lazy.
Even though she is a bit scatterbrained and could not handle HMNS as well because of everything else she had going, she is a good mentor and professor. She really preps you for the real world and always have a tip to share. I always get frustrated with her lacking of replies and all, but I know this pandemic has been bad for us all, not a bad prof.
Upsetting how she ruined the HMNS experience for students out there. Very rude. Very condescending. Only focused on herself and her vacations. Took months to get grades back. Her stepping down from HMNS is the best, now she needs to just stay away from the chemistry dept at queens college
this "teacher" didn't hold lectures but instead gave the class Aleks (an online learning platform where you answer questions) that was it. Neglected the class for 2 months. Class is entirely self-paced; her final was so irrelevant to the topics taught. 80% of the final was calculating lifting power of a balloon. Worked so hard for nothing bruh
If you have her for Gen Chem-1, drop the class immediately. If you're interested in paying someone to not teach you at all, but are willing to teach yourself, instead? This is the right class for you!
ok first off, this class was online and SHE DID NOT TEACH! im not sure how she teaches in person but online was horrible. this whole class is based on aleks which is an online platform thing where there is a crazy amount of work to be done, however, she did give us a lot of time to complete it and you really have to pace and teach yourself.
What a nasty woman, not to mention miserable person who blames the world for her mistakes. She gets mad when reported and threatens people, doesnt keep promises, and disappears. Believes she knows everything which is why HMNS was taken away from her and why the chemistry department laughs at her. Should focus on getting therapy maybe and VitaminD
The thing many chem 211 students were struggling to deal with was her tardiness when it came to grades. She was rude and blamed us for her issues. Piled on major projects at last minute. Worked us into Christmas and thanksgiving. Stopped students from graduation because of the wait for grades. And never gave a real apology.
She was rude but take her for 211. Do all the work, and you are guaranteed to pass. TRUST ME, she will take years to give back grades but once you do the work you will pass. Could work on mannerisms though, made everyone so stressed, one peer was throwing up daily waiting for grades as they had severe anxiety ://
Horrible. Save your GPA and don't take her. I had her for Chem 1. Terrible lectures and she has the tendency to go off topic. Its so bad that one time she was talking about cereal and someone got up and asked her "Is this going to be on the test".
Thank god for ALEKS. I really liked her in the first classes. She is smart & knows a lot about a lot. However, that's it. The lecture is a waste.. totally off-topic. I ask questions related to the topic & she makes me feel stupid for trying to clarify, then moves on to off-topic things again. Quizzes are hard and everyone is lost on how to prep.
Just don't join this class
Very very difficult course. If you like chemistry, are passionate about it, this class is for you. The only thing that will save your grade is extra credit provided but even those are impossible. COMPLETE ALEKS! Make this class your top priority if you want to pass. Do all the homework, extra credits, you are set for at least a C. Goodluck.
Do everything on Aleks and you'll be fine
Not my favorite class, but she gave me my grade and that's that. She might not always be nice, she's a good person though on the outside of the class atmosphere. It's just she's known to delay grades for months, but do your work and get it in, you will pass.
Do not expect to actually learn from the lectures, just do everything you can from Alecks and do your best in her weekly quizzes and you should be fine. If she is your only option, do yourself a favor and epermit this class
She has to apologize to advisement for delaying grades until March (grades from the fall 2021 semester), and proceeded to gaslight students via email. She needs to focus solely on things that she can handle, thankfully she is not teaching p-chem at this time.
Has an emotional support animal and still treats students like garbage. Let that sink in. God forbid she gets reported, she will gaslight the students. Goes away mysteriously to Texas half of the time when grades are due and delays folks for months, but tells you she wants to help.
I don't think anyone hates her, it's just how she can be unorganized and a bit mean at times. But do what you can, all the extra credits and assignments and you will be fine.
The lectures aren't that helpful in the course material. But attendance is mandatory because of a quiz everyday or module test. But doing all the HW and extra credit will get u a decent grade. Honestly a blessing because of how stress free this made taking the class because of how great her grades are split up for the course.
You know she's bad when another Professor tells you to drop her class! She is very passive-aggressive. She acts like she is trying to help you but gets frustrated. The stuff she teaches is completely different from what's on quizzes and HW-IMO. She preaches about the extensive workload (12+ hw), but doesn't even teach us properly?!
Tells us in this class we're supposed to teach ourselves but doesn't even tell us what chapters we are supposed to review. She uses teams and it's very unorganized. First class, she taught us about the pricing of microscopes-like why? Doesn't teach about magnification or anything-just pricing and differences. Quizzes every day, but its open book
Please avoid! I believe she doesn't teach content correctly. Hw questions on Aleks and what's in the textbook are completely different from what she explains in class. She writes on the board,(no slides), but the notes will not make sense when you go to review them. You feel trapped because you're unsure what the correct content is.
She definitely knows the subject but she doesn't know how to teach it well. The daily quizzes and I think 6 exams given was a workload and very stressful, even though quizzes were open book. She offered capstones which lifted grades a lot, if you scored good. She's not a bad person just not the best professor. Also exams were very difficult.
Cherice's class can be tricky, but Unstuck study and diligent studying on ALEKS can help you get through it. Stay engaged, and you'll come out learning a lot.
