So refreshing to have a chem prof at MSVU who actually CARES about his students learning something! Fab. & SO humble. loved his class and can remember some chem a year later.

Dr. Matta was a good enough prof. He got side tracked a lot and for some reason he underestimated the class so he gave us easier tests and assignments. I thought the class was pretty easy. Dr. Matta is a great guy over all.

Before taking this course I was terrified. I'm not good at Chemistry and the lab work load is ridiculously high. However, Dr. Matta is so passionate about science, I found myself caught up in his enthusiasm. He teaches to the clock and gives you your full time. He is also very well published in his field.

Cherif is a joy to learn from. His boundless enthusiasm for the topic he teaches shines through every lecture. His assignments and tests are pretty difficult, but he's willing to go over the concepts again and again until you are comfortable with the ideas involved, even though he has several other teaching and research commitments. A great man!

Cherif has a clear passion for teaching and throughout the course emphasized the importance of learning over grading. His tests and assignments were a challenge but he was always willing to help, no matter how many times you needed him to explain the same topic! He encouraged us to use outside reources as well, which really helped with assignments.

Before I took the electricy and magnetism course, I thought electricity and magnetism was boring. After taking this course with Cherif, I now find electricity and magnetism to be an incredibly interesting subject. He encourages you to research topics and shows a lot of enthusiasm for the subject. Highly recommend his course.

Cherif is an excellent professor to have. He makes the class interactive and interesting by connecting course material to real-life examples. The quantum physics course really opened my eyes to the world as well, and is one of those courses that changes the way one interprets the world around us. A must course for anyone with a thirst for knowledge

Biochem is not an easy subject so of course you will have to work to understand the material, but Cherif is really engaging and sincerely wants you to do well in the course. He is always available by email or in person to clarify a concept. His tests and quizzes are fair and assignments really help your grade out. Great prof!

Biochemistry isn't an easy course, so it's obvious that you have to put the time and effort into the course, because he will not GIVE you the grade you have to earn it. However, he truly wants his students to do well, and is very approachable and enthusiastic about the course material. GO TO CLASS! :)

Cherif's passion radiates through his teaching. His pure excitement for the material makes you excited as well. Waves and Optics was a great course. He really reacted to the feedback of the class and even opted to have take-home exams as students in the class suggested.

Biochem is a hard course but he tries to teach the material that he thinks is relevant and essential. He is always very helpful and has very fair assignments and tests. He tends to ramble a bit but it is still interesting. Beware of the labs in this class, but overall as a prof Matta is very helpful and knowledgeable.

I have never had a prof more excited about class material, he is extremely passionate and interactive in class. If you go to class, he will tell you everything that will be on exams!

Cherif Matta is an amazing teacher. He is very excited about what he teaches. He has a wealth of knowledge. I remember hearing the movers weren't sure if his apartment would be stable enough to hold all his books. Don't be late for his class, he hates tardiness.

He is the best teacher that I've had in this university. He teaches a very difficult subject but he tries his best to make it as interesting and easy as possible. He is so awesome that I felt like I had to come on this site to rate him. Would highly recommend.

Great prof!

I found the course material difficult (for someone who is not a chem/bio major) but Cherif did a great job of trying to make it interesting with his enthusiasm in lectures. I thought the tests and assignments were fair and the grading scheme was more than generous.

A simply phenomenal teacher! The subject of Quantum Chemistry is by no means an easy course and Cherif lets you know right out of the gate that it won't come easy. However, with great care and enthusiasm, like no other teacher you'll ever meet, he will be there supporting you the whole time and is readily available at a moments notice.

Really nice professor. Does his best to maintain student interest, and often explains things in analogies for the benefit of those who don't have a science background. The textbook is definitely essential, but if you stay on top of the material it's easy to get a good grade.He's also always available for help, and always answers email questions.

Cherif Matta was an awesome professor! He seems to have a genuine interest in the subject. He makes the lectures very interesting through his analogies, his jokes and in-depth explanations so we really understand the material. You should DEFINITELY go to every lecture because he stresses what's important for the tests and final as well what to skip

Dr. Matta lives up to the reputation that precedes most MSVU faculty in that he is extremely helpful and it is very clear that he wants his students to succeed. As for easiness, I gave him a 4 because IF you go to class and IF you take the assignments seriously and IF you ask clarifying questions in class, then Chérif is not going to hold you back.

Cherif is an awesome professor! I had no interest in biochemistry and thought it would be very difficult, coming from someone with an interest in nutrition. He made the class lectures very funny and it is worth your time to attend! He is a fair teacher and makes concepts very clear. If you have any questions, he is open to help you out and answer!

Cherif is a great prof. He very obviously cares a lot about what he teaches and truly wants his students to have a through understanding of the material. Very helpful, will happily answer any questions about course material.

Cherif is a very interesting professor and is very passionate about what he teaches. His lectures are very interesting and there is never a dull moment in his classes. He is a very fair marker. If you show him you are investing the proper amount of effort in his classes it will be noticed and reflected in your grade.

I'm a nutrition student and he completely transformed my passion into the world of biochemistry, thus stimulating my interest in reading all other scientific fields, especially physics which I had never studied until now. Cherif is really passionate about what he teaches, and he's an entertaining lecturer. He does get a bit side-tracked at times, which can sometimes make his lectures a bit hard to follow. However, he is incredibly helpful and responds to emails very quickly. It is easy to tell that he genuinely cares about student success. His tests are very fair.

Cherif is very passionate about teaching. I have taken BioChem before and the big comparison I saw between my previous class and this one is how much he wants you to understand that what we are learning isn't just for tests, but is for our knowledge. He really goes the extra mile to ensure either through video or modelling or extra explanation.

Dr. Matta is incredibly passionate about science, and this passion makes classes very interesting. He does have a tendency to get side-tracked and go on tangents, though. He responds to emails very rapidly, even on weekends, so it's always easy to get an answer to any questions. The tests are all fair and represent course material accurately.

Professor Matta is by far the greatest professor I have had at the Mount. His knowledge is outstanding and his desire to help students understand is very evident through his teaching. He is very fair with his testing and he ensures that his students are well prepared for his midterms and final exam.

Dr Matta's classes were great, entertaining and his love of teaching always came through. Lots of detail given to areas he was passionate about.

This class is a lot of work but Charif is very passionate about the subject. This passion is displayed during every class making it easier to remain engaged and inspires you to look at biochemistry differently

Dr. Matta has a depth of knowledge in many different areas - so he is able to explain the material in different ways and bring in examples from other fields (philosophy, medicine, art etc.).

This course is BRUTAL mainly because chemistry at this level is awful and the labs are a ridiculous amount of work. However, Cherif's obvious passion for the subject is very endearing and it's clear that he genuinely cares that students understand. He is happy to explain things to you outside of class, and even responds to emails. Very likeable!!

He's is a great person and teacher! You can tell that he is extremely knowledgeable about a variety of subjects and he will always include something interesting and different in his lectures. I always found his power points to be well laid out and easy to study from! The lab section in this course is very hard but I enjoyed the lectures.

This course was an opening eye for understanding the relationships between intermediary metabolism and food. Course materials were well elaborated and the professor was great at keeping students focused and interested during the lectures. Above all, Dr. Matta was an inspirational and ready to answer any questions that for sure clear things out.

Lectures are always interesting and he really inspires you to do the absolute best you can.

Cherif is very passionate about what he does and very humble about the subject of quantum mechanics. It was a class that really consolidated my knowledge of quantum.

This is my second class Ive taken with Cherif f. He is a very good professor and knows his stuff. If you miss material and dont go In to see him to make it up, you will be lost for sure. In bothe class missing a lecture would have been detrimental to my grade.

Cherif is a wonderful professor and has a great teaching style. His lectures require a lot of active thinking, so be ready to ask him if you get stuck. If you take good notes and make the most out of his lectures then you should do well in his class.

Cherif has amazing teaching qualities and put 100% efforts for explaining every aspect in the course. He has a great knowledge and command regarding the course content. Dr. Matta is a great prof! He is very knowledgeable, but helps make things understandable. His use of everyday things to explain more complicated ideas is helpful to understand subject matter. It may seem like he's getting off topic, but I found it interesting. Take time to go to office hours & chat, if you are at all interested in chemistry!

AMAZING prof! You can tell he's very passionate about this topic and GENUINELY wants the students to learn instead of just memorizing. Uses a lot of in class time to show 3D structure of compounds only to help expand student's knowledge and imagination. If you have the chance of taking a course with him-DO IT! You wont regret it:)

One of the best proffesors I have come across. He genuinely cares about his students and is very enthusiastic about the subject matter. He makes sure you understand the content instead of simple memorization, which is very rare amongst science professors. He is also very approachable and helpful after class.

Dr. Matta is an excellent professor. He is exceptionally intelligent and places a great deal of emphasis on understanding and knowledge over memorization. He has a good sense of humour and clearly wants students to approach science with an inquisitive and open mind. I loved him as a professor and wish more teachers approached teaching this way.

Dr. Matta's lectures were captivating, and he was consistently able to hold the classes attention. By diving deep into difficult to understand concepts and using examples, he would make sure the class grasped each concept before moving on. Dr. Matta is a true professional. It was a pleasure taking his class.

Dr. Matta is probably the most inspirational professor I've ever had the pleasure of having. He's down to earth and incredibly smart... and he cares about students!!! A very rare mix haha. His lectures were quite interesting, and his tests and assignments were very fair. It's biochemistry so it's always a little challenging but not bad. 10/10!!!

Cherif teaches with utmost enthusiasm and passion. He is always happy to help anyone succeed and encourages thoughtful discussions in class. Though the material can sometimes be conceptually difficult, Cherif is able to explain it in a straightforward way. His lectures are a pleasure to attend and I would recommend taking any course taught by him.

I have had a lot of profs over the past three years, and this man is a god sent. He is an amazing person and gives the best lectures. He truly wants his students to succeed and do well. Although sometimes hard to follow Cherif always does his best to try and get students engaged and excited about all things physics. Probably one of the best teachers at MSVU!

Cherif Matta is a great prof. He is extremely reasonable, and his main concern is that all students are learning effectively. He is very understanding, and wont penalize you just because he can. Grade doesn't come from much assessment, but all tests/assignments are very clearly outlined with no surprises.

One of the Best Professor's I can ask for. Dr. Matta is a genius and has his own way of explaining everything which really helps. I promise you, you won't regret taking this class.

I would definitely take another class with Chereif. He is very helpful and explains things in a way you can understand. He come across as passionate about his work and he related course material to other courses such as Biochemistry.

Dr. Matta is a very caring and easy going professor. However, the work load for the class is quite heavy, so be prepared for a lot of hours spent on the course. Dr. Matta will make sure his students understand concepts and is open for help as well as answers questions if you do not understand.
