This class is easy if you go and participate. She always wants your opinion.

She might be hard, but she knows what she is talking about. She gives all of her students ample amount of time and opportunity to discuss and re-write ALL of the assignments. She will improve ANYBODY'S writing!!

Great Prof. Enjoyed the class and the assignments were easy.

Cassidy is an awsome professor who is willing to work with you if you put in some effort up front. She's insightful, helpful, and has reasonable expectations of the students. Grades very fairly. Like all good profs,she's not a good pick if you are lazy.

weird criticisms here since Cassidy's been on sabbatical for a year. She's great and knows her stuff. Those who criticize probably were too stupid to understand the class. She's definitely not an elitist and definitely into helping students.

I was afraid of this class at first, but Prof. Cassidy really helped me and made the class interesting and fun. She is also always ready to listen and help you. I learned a lot.

This is the second time I've taken this class and it was great. Cassidy is a good teacher and has some interesting assignments. I liked the observations the best.

I liked her and I liked the class. She's pretty hard, but I thought I learned a lot and even had some fun.

I liked Dr. Cassidy, though some of the students in this class were rude and did not pay attention. She was hard but she was interested in helping us do better.

Cassidy starts hard but eases up as the term goes on. She's funny and smart, and very liberal. But she really cares that you work hard and do well. Sometimes, she's demanding but then I guess she's the prof.

Professor Cassidy was fun! We all loved the cookies and we liked the class.

AMAZING TEACHER. she really wanted us to do well in her class and improve our writing. allowed to re-write anypaper you wanted as many times as you felt neccessary as long as they were all turned in my the end of the semester. i thought that i would hate this class but actually ended up loving it. i would deffinitely take her again.

don't listen to the whiners about fall term. Cassidy did give us lots of breaks in attendance and due dates. Also some of the people in this class had issues with writing and were unable to do the work. I know of students who did nothing on the final project and Cassidy still gave them decent grades.

very interesting class. good materials with lots of good paper topics. I felt that the assignments and the materials helped me understand how to write better.

cassidy brought us cookies almost every week! the assignments were not as boring as I thought they would be. I liked the internet assignment the best.

I took english 121 honors with cassidy, and liked her and the class. The websites assignment was my favorite though I liked the interviewing too.

This class was great! She can be a little intimidating the first couple weeks to weed out people who don't want to work, but you end up learning a ton and have a good time class. Awesome professor! If you have a choice between professor, take Cheryl if possible! Attendance is required though, you get 1 absence.

Intimidating and a little cynical about how papers are written at first. All papers turned in can be redone to gain extra points. At end of term, she seemed much nicer and easier to handle than at beginning.

I thought the class had lots to offer: a different take on style and how writers write. I thought Cassidy was funny and nice.

Didn't like the class much but she was a fine professor. If you figure out early what she wants in the essays you're set for the semester. You can rewrite papers for a better grade if you need to. She's pretty straightforward and willing to help you develop your writing skills.

English 328 was hard, but the assignments helped me and other students write better papers. Yes, attendance counts but that's because of English dept. rules and because of Ncate. Cheryl wrote 2 recommendations for me and I got the scholarships. She was hard but good.

Very easy professor. She allows you to re-write papers as many times as you want with no grade penalty. Once you figure out what she wants in your papers, you've got an A. Also very interesting class discussions.

She's a good teacher, but I do not like how she tends to rip on papers. By this I mean she is SO particular- everything has to be exactly right. But she does allow you to re-write as many papers as many times as you want to get that A.

She is awesome. Just keep in mind it is a writing class, and you will be fine. She allows creativity, but you have to follow the guidelines. Revisions are allowed! You are learning how to write well, not to pass a class! She is fun and full of info. She is great!

very nice and very helpful, sort of funny too. knows a lot about writing and if you're interested you can learn a lot too. attendance required but that's because of NCATE and she's pretty relaxed overall.

I'm taking 328 once a week at night and it is the biggest waste of time and money I've experienced at EMU in a long while. We are dismissed from class at about the halfway point every night, and I don't feel like we've learned a thing. I learned TONS more about writing from Arrington in 225. The assignments were few, spread out, & pointless.

The class was easy, you got to rewrite papers you did bad on. The you-tube video was the best part. We usually finished early, fair grader and gave good feedback on papers to let you know how to improve.

Loved her class! She definitely wants you to be a better writer and does what she can to help you! Highly recommended!

She was amazing! Before the semester, she sent out this intimidating email about how hard the class was gonna be and she did a 180. Her class was soo fun and she was easy to work with. If something was too hard or the deadlines sucked, she gave you major slack. She connected with each student and taught a very fair, fun class.

At first she may come off as strict and this class may seem hard (plus she does send an intimidating email at the start). But once class goes on and you do your work class will be a total blast! It'll be worth it and the projects are a lot of fun too! Take this class, she's a really nice person!

She is scary, but effective. Doesn't tolerate late or inattentive students. Her grading style is thorough and direct. The assigned reading was interesting and she allowed us to revise our papers multiple times to improve our grades.

Do not be intimidated by her initial email. If more students would stick out the first week of the class they would realize that Prof. Cassidy is fair and understanding and willing to work with you. The course pack is essential so don't think you can skip out on it. You will read the entire thing!

Easy class to take as long as you have her. She is super laid back.

No tests the entire class which is nice. 4 Papers and 3 blog posts but deadlines are very reasonable. Each paper is about 5 pages. Short articles have to be read for each class for discussion. No book, only a course pack with student papers for around $35. My entire class was based on social media so it connected to our lives well.

Simple if you keep up with the readings and essay assignments. Make sure you bring your printed articles to class and that you read ahead of time so that you are prepared for class discussion. She wants you prepared. Essay topics were generally not hard to write about at all. Final projectyoutube video was fun! Make sure you participate in class!

Her class was easy as you only had to be ready with class materials, write short essays and 4 long essays and that was pretty much the class. Say, your arn't a writer? well there are rough drafts, peer reviews, she reviews them, and you can also revision them as many times as you want to get the A+. Easy class, everyone gets an A.

Professor Cassidy is willing to help any student who has questions about writing or revising a paper, and straight out says that she wants you to get an A. I liked the workshop setup of the class with how we were able to keep revising until we got as many points as we wanted- that's what real writing is.

Obviously there is a lot of writing in this course. She gives you the chance to re-do papers again after the final draft for more credit, so there's really no reason not to get an A. There are no tests or final, just essays and a final project. I don't like writing, but this class was actually kinda fun.

I took Professor Cassidy during the summer and we had a lot of writing to do, but nothing out of the ordinary; You need to buy the material or else you'll be entirely screwed; She allows you to revise 2 papers, which helped me out A LOT; Attendance is necessary; Overall she was a great teacher, I learned a lot!

Professor Cassidy was very thorough with our writing. We only had to write 4 short essays and 4 more formal long ones. She was funny and always asked about our days. Didn't put up with anyone's crap, and hates when people don't go to class. Best class thus far.

She was very understanding and although you had to work for your grades she will go through your papers before they're due and tell you what to edit. She would tell her own personal stories and was really easy to connect with. I would definitely recommend taking her.

I wasn't a fan of Cassidy at the beginning of the semester because I thought she was stuck up but you just have to get used to her sometimes snarky comments. Nonetheless, the class is straightforward and she hands back papers in a timely fashion. My only complaint is that the course book is costly and it would've been cheaper to just print it out.

She is a wonderful woman who is very understanding of students and is one of the best teachers I have had at EMU. Buying her course pack is necessary, but worth it because it gives you all the information necessary for the 4 papers that you have to write. You can redo papers to get more points as well and she is a very nice person.

Many of the negative reviews on here gave me a biased view of Cassidy. Although she was a bit harsh in her critiques and has a tough exterior, her intimidation is not something to worry about long term. She was kind and lovely once you put away your distaste for maybe some very critical judgment on your writing. Have an open mind and listen to her!

I really enjoyed her and her class. She may seem kinda strict and a tough grader at times, but she truly cares about helping her students. The class structure was good as well. Overall really good experience and I would definitely take her again.

I loved prof Cassidy! Shes so funny and her class was my favorite that semester. She seems really scary at first but once you get used to her shes a joy to have. The class was graded off just a few essays and one group project but as long as you go to class and listen to what she says you should have no problems. Warning, she doesnt use canvas.

I was very hesitant on taking this professor after reading some of these reviews. Even after the first day of class I wanted to drop, but I'm glad I didn't. She's a tough grader, but she goes over everyone's paper and offers feedback so that you can go back and edit before turning in the final.

Grade is focused on writing and attendance. The way she explained the attendance policy did a good job of making people scared enough not to miss class. I liked her, because of her knowledge. Shes a very tough grader so if that isnt your thing this isnt your prof!

I was part of her in-person class during COVID. She assigned 3 essays throughout the whole semester, and she is a very kind grader. Do the essays and discussion posts and youll pass.

LOVE HER. She makes you do a draft before turning in each paper which is so helpful. It helped show how she likes her opera formatted. I recommend this class to everyone. Just make sure to but the $20 course pack bc the student papers help.

LOVED this class!!! She does make you write a lot of papers, but offers example papers to guide you on how to keep them organized. In class discussions explains different writing styles, and ways to make papers enjoyable for an audience. As long as you show up and TRY you will do good in this course. All old papers can be revised for a better grade

Cheryl was such a hard grader on the papers but you can redo them to get better grades, as long as you follow her guidelines you'll do great. The articles she chooses to read are so interesting and fun to read. I really loved Prof Cassidy!

There are only 4 essays in this class. She will answer your emails quickly. If you want to turn in something late, she will deduct 5 points for every day it is late. She keeps her class engaging and helps you truly understand what you are learning. If you ever get a bad grade on something, she allows for revisions.

Her class is graded by 3-4 papers, but she offers redos for nearly every single one, so you have the chance to score 100% in the class. She is very knowledgeable in the subject, and while her critiques can be harsh, they are very useful in the end.

She comes off very harsh the first two weeks, after that you realize she's actually a really easy grader and a good teacher. She stresses attendance a lot but as long as you participate when you show up, you're fine to miss a couple classes. Super easy grader as long, as you listen to her feedback (and don't take it to heart) you'll be good.

Only 4 papers for the semester, you learn by reading past students papers. Class is pretty easy. Some of the feedback on the papers is strict, but you have the opportunity to correct it and turn the paper back in.

This class can be a mixed bag, but using unstuck study alongside the required course materials really helps. The professor gives tough feedback, but revisions are allowed.

She can come off a little harsh at first, but her critiques were helpful, & the last paper is easy. Remember to format your papers correctly (she's specific about formatting), model them after the example papers, participate in class discussions, & use her critiques in your revisions! Also, get the workbook; it's required & has good example papers.

She may seem a bit intimidating at first, but she gives good critiques and suggestions for your work. There are four papers written across the semester, and you model your papers off of previous examples from past students. You are allowed to revise your papers if you get a grade you don't like. The class itself is not hard.

For the papers, we get examples from the course packet that we have to pay for. The examples were the only useful aspect, as she would basically say to “copy” or base your essay on them. It was an easy class only for that factor, but you aren't really learning new techniques, only to copy off “better” examples.

I don't get the low grades. She truly cares about you if you care about the class. Be prepared to participate and follow her essay rubric. Easy A.
