She is very friendly and grades a little difficult on the essays she assigns us.
She is difficult, but she knows her material & is not afraid to tell you your flaws.
Grades very hard on her papers. She makes the class seem hard. Is friendly and cool.
Of all the Eng1E prof, take her. Her essay prompts are far more easier than other teachers who make students analyze difficult material. Plus, the book she requires is only about 20 bucks compared to 60 like the other teachers. Helpful & positive!

Great instructor. Don't be intimidated by the essay assignments. I was a bad writer, but she helped me find my inner writer. Just go to her office hours and ask her for assistance, she's very friendly.
She grades hard on essays. She does not give you feedback on your essays only when she has graded them. She grades hard, but the class is boring. She is willing to help you, you just have to seek for her. She is weird sometimes and she tries to be funny.
We did a lot of papers and had 3 tests. The tests aren't that hard if you just read the material. She doesn't grade that harshly on papers and she lets the class pick the topics. She is very nice and very helpful. She loves what she does.
cheryl is so sweet. she's a really nice teacher but she's not the easiest. but, if you try talking to her during her office hours or before/after class, she's willing to give you your time of day. when it comes to writing her prompts, just ask her for her help and she should give you an idea about what she wants. long class, but it's cool.

She is an incredibly sweet and caring teacher but not always clear in her expectations. Her grading seems very hard because she does not fully explain what she wants you to do. Visit her office hours frequently and you will have no problems.

this teacher was really sweet. i didnt know why i was doing bad in the beginning... but i got help during her office hours... and i did fine. she helped me passed the class. get help from her from the start. all u need to do is go to her office. good teacher!

Cher is pretty much a spaz. She means well but she definitely tries to be funny and is not. You should go to class because she takes attendance even if it doesn't seem like it, it will become apparent at the end of the semester. The first two essays were easy but then they got harder. She gives you a chance to rewrite one for the final. Easy A!

May seem difficult at first but she's really there to help a student out. Lectures are aimed to help you see different readings of material. Last essay was a great writing experience!
She was wonderful if you tried your best and asked for help and spoke up. No class is supposed to be a breeze, you are in college people, act like it. This is a mandatory class for MAJOR! obviously it is not supposed to be an easy A so show up and do the work and it will make your life much easier. She was very helpful and made me enjoy class.
I thought she was funny and sweet. She really wants you to do well, and goes out of her way to be helpful. There is a lot of writing (mostly short 1-2 page responses, but also two larger papers). The essays did not seem all that difficult to me. just read the stories/poems and you'll be fine. She spends a lot of time on the writing process.
NOT RECOMENDED. SHE LAUGHS AT HER OWN JOKES AND AS WELL HAS HER FAVORITES. WATCH OUT!!!!!!!!!

Professor Chapman is great! Just try your best, go to her for help, and write with your heart. She loves illustrations in your essays. Make her laugh, and you are good to go.
My problem with her as a professor lies in the fact that she demands a bit of writing for a 100level class. Her expectations are not made clear at all & she KNOWS what the text is saying so don't even try arguing a different analysis. I feel sorry for the non-English majors in this class. They didn't get to enjoy the full potential of literature.
Miss Chapman is a very good professor. She is always helpful on all of your essays whenever you come to her office hours and you can even re-write them for a better grade & for your portfolio as well. She definetely helped me improve on my essays.
She's a good teacher for English majors. If you don't care about English, then I recommend not taking her class. She is a little harsh and this will not be an easy A. She does let you rewrite your papers but does not give you enough instructions for writing them.
This teacher can not teach. She stays on one topic for ever. She thinks that her English 1 class is capable of doing English 100 and higher, and talks mad smack on us for not doing better than English 100. Overall she sounds like a cow being overworked. I hated this class and her.

Without a doubt, the worse professor i have ever had. All you do in class is talk about the same topic FOR DAYS while she tells people their opinions are wrong. Very vague on what she wants in papers, makes it hard to get a good grade . Some people in my class got an F on our final paper, even though the did it, because their opinions were wrong.
She's a very very hard teacher, extremely hard grader, has a terrible attitude, and expects everyone to be on her writing skills level.
She is evil! She will definitely have her favorites and will only care for them. She doesn't help you much when it comes to writing your papers and she expects us to write like professionals. She makes you feel dumb and her expectations aren't clear, don't take her!
Hard professor, will tell you straight up that you wont pass the class. If you go to her office hours she will help you a lot but doesnt make it any easier to get a good grade. If you have another choice for a professor take the other choice. Trust me.

I don't know what the other raters are talking about. She was extremely helpful and does her best to help you pass your portfolio. Check beachboard often!!! She posts the reading and expects you to come to class prepared.

You have to go to class. No textbook is needed, it is optional. Just four out and in of class essays. Do it and you will pass.
She grades really hard and treat the class as if it was a 400 level class. Not to mention she grades ridiculously hard. The majority of the class passed with a C or lower. Very few passed with a B, hardly anyone passed with an A. If you take her class, use your pass or fail.

Pointless course with an unhelpful professor. Asks for rough drafts but does not critique them and give them back. Becomes defensive when asked questions or to clarify an assignment. Course is only out of 100 points and yet currently won't allow rewrites because her papers are "piling up". Not worth the stress. Don't take her.
Lol. Idk how the person below said "if you aren't white american you won't pass." That's a total lie. She's nice, but grades really hard on essays. But allows rewrites. If you go to her office hours, you'll understand A LOT more. &it is possible to get an A even though the class is only out of 100 points. Not an easy A though.

Avoid taking her class at all costs, trust me. Her instructions for her assignments were filled with redundant information which made it confusing with what exactly she was looking for in the end. I went to her office hours but still didn't find it helpful at all.

She's a great teacher! A friend of mine and I took her class together and were surprised to see some of the bitter reviewers on this page. She's really nice, funny and I actually had a lot of fun working on the final project for this class. She has standards for the work turned in--but that's a good thing. I recommend her!

If you want to write 20 essays (including rewrites) and struggle because you don't know what she wants in an ENG100, here is the class for you :) Oh and that's if you're willing to take a C for all the hard work you put in. Science classes are harder than this ENG100 class. I don't recommend this class to ANYONE... GL for those who r in class rnow.
Overall the class isn't difficult. She lets you rewrite all essays and go to her office hours, she pretty much tells you how to do your entire paper. The assignments are a bit confusing as its not very clear as to what she wants you to do. I would have her class as a backup, wouldn't really recommend her.

SHE IS TOUGH
Probably one of the toughest professors I've ever had. Barely passed her class. If you can avoid her you will be doing yourself a favor.
If u like going to class seeing the professor giving you looks (rolling eyes, shaking head) for being 1-2 min late go for it. She puts people on the spot and makes you feel dumb for your interpretation of the essay- meaning she emphasizes more of her opinions. She says what she wants in ur paper & when u do it she marks it as "wrong"

By far the worst professor at the school. I would not recommend her at all. If you have her you should try to switch out if not drop the course. Her grading is ridiculous, plus she is very unclear on every assignment. She tells you to be creative and open in your essays, but she marks you down when you do try.
TBH this class is tough, however an A is obtainable! Overall we had 4 essays, 2 in class essays, one research presentation with your group (final) that ties with your last essay which is a research paper. She allows rewrites on essay for a higher grade if you change enough she'll give you a higher grade. If you need help go to her OFFICE HOURS
Totally regret this class. She begins the semester saying that she really wants us to express ourselves and get creative with the writing. Then when you start turning in papers she Doesn't really explain what she wants in the essay and has a certain style of writing she likes. So she wants your writing style to mirror hers but doesn't express how.
Avoid this professor. She is a tough grader and expects perfect papers from first year college students. I regret taking this class.
AVOID AT ALL COSTS!! Not clear about what to write on essays, extraordinarily tough grader, and extremely harsh on students when asked questions. If you tell her you are confused, she will more than likely get upset with you and rather than help, she will mock you in front of other students. Also, you basically have to rewrite every single paper.
Regret taking her as my teacher for this class. She is opinionated and essays are always a redo. It is more of a sociology class than an english class. She helped me on a paper than marked my paper wrong based off of what she wrote for me... Avoid at all costs. Would recommend just taking Africana Studies for the same credit.
Went to office hours many times, rewrote all her essays except for the last one and was very difficult to satisfy. I was never good enough, she was very offensive with my papers. I got a C, I deserved a better grade. I put the most effort in her class than any other. Avoid her class if you can, seriously.

Professor Chapman does expect a lot out of you, but what she teaches you is usable in your everyday life! If you get stuck on anything, go to office hours. Once you get to know her, Professor Chapman is very easy to get along with and relates very well to students. If you aren't afraid of work, take her!

Everything you give her she will find a way to prove you wrong. However she does help you notice how to be a good writer but when you do what she wants you to do it is wrong. Stay away from her class
Chapman is the type of professor you take if you're looking for a challenge. The essays you write are not traditional essays, but you learn about yourself from them. If you are a good writer, take her class. If all fails GO TO her office hours, it helps A LOT! Her class can get difficult, but if you ask for help you'll be just fine.
This is the thing about her yes she gives great feedback for you to improve but she will always find something wrong with your essay and grades pretty hard. If you do take her I highly recommend going to her office hours and do not wait until the end to do it.
She is honestly a teach that at all costs should be avoided. She will tell you to put things in your paper during her offices hours then when you submit it and get it back she will ask you why the hell was it in here. she doesn't know what she is doing and expects you to know writing like a 300 level class. again AVOID! Definitely hardest grader Ive come across. Will write an essay as a response to the 3 essays youll write. Grading criteria for assignments are unclear. Only a few lucky ppl pass. Unless youre a solid writer and outstanding article analyser, drop the course itll save you the hassle.
She is a tough professor, but going to her office hours frequently is the only way to pass the class. Most of the times, she would say things or ideas during her office hours, because it did not click her during the lecture. Do not take her, but if you do...... do not forget to go to her office hours.

this professor will make you work for it, in the sense that your response does not mean anything when writing an essay. It is basically her way or the high way. TAKE ANOTHER PROFESSOR. You'll regret taking her.

Her English 102 class isn't a Critical Thinking & Writing Class, but it's more of a Journalism 101 type of class. All I ever hear is politics, and it was one of the reasons why I dropped the class. I wouldn't recommend taking this professor AT ALL
Her quizzes are easy as long as you read the material beforehand. She has a lot of criteria for your papers so go to her office hours if youre confused. She lets you choose your topic for the argument paper so choose something you like since you will be working with it the whole semester.
This is the worst professor I've ever had. Her directions and expectations are very unclear leaving you clueless for all papers. You have to rewrite every single paper 2-4 times. In her office hours she will steer you in one direction for a paper. After working for hours on your paper and returning it to her she is unsatisfied and makes you restart
She wears purple or pink shirts every day. When you talk to her in her office hours she rambles on and on about improvements to your paper that are extremely subordinate. On the bright side, she has a bright bubbly personality and she is kinda cute

She does too much, all her assignments are unclear. She tells everything you do wrong but never anything you do right. You write about 3-4 reader response or essays a week. She'll send you an email about how you have to print everything out, with 3 different copies for the class but she does not even use them in class. NEVER TAKE HER!
She gives a ton of reading that sometimes have nothing to do with what your reading, she makes you read and print multiple articles. She gives homework that isn't even necessary she just wants to throw extra work at you. shes very nice and always a happy lady but it is kind of difficult to understand the way she explains our assignments. she is also a very hard grader its like she expects you to be a professional writer going straight into the class
This professor really makes you work. Just take lots time to write your essays and follow the steps on the handouts that she provides you . She will always find room for improvement in your writing. I recommend you ask a lot of questions because she does not explain the assignments very well.
She honestly made me want to stop going to school. She made me reevaluate my life because she made me feel worthless. Not just a horrible professor but horrible person! If you have her drop ASAP unless you want to undergo maximum stress.

I took her during my second semester and it was by far the most stressful class I have ever taken. She is an extremely tough grader and is too fast pace. There is a lot of unnecessary assignments and readings that become a little too overwhelming as the semester continues.. overall would not take her class again. Warning to everyone enrolled.
Gives wayyyyy too many assignments that do not even relate to the class and content. Gave me 50% on an essay I put so much time and effort in and is the worst and hardest grader I've ever encountered with a professor or teacher in my life. Do not take her class it is extra stress and work. Also talks about her political views way too much.
Do not take this professor. She has no compassion for anyone. She's very picky on papers and nothing is ever good for her. She is very unclear on directions and she makes it hard for students to ask questions because she puts you on the spot.
Prof. Chapmans grading criteria is extremely confusing and tough. Almost everybody failed our first essay (out of 3 classes only 2 people received an A). I asked her for help on my second essay and she gave me conflicting advice every time I visited. 98% of your grade is based off only 3 essays, even though she gave out a lot of extra assignments.

I'm good at writing essays so this class was easy for me, but I kept getting fustrated with her because she was never clear on her grading criteria. The first 2 essays were super easy, it was just writing about who you are but then the last 2 she got all picky all of the sudden. You can easily pass but her style just annoyed me as a student.

Yes she's a tough grader but it helped me improve my writing by a lot! I liked Prof. Chapman's class because it was so difficult. She was always available to help her students and give them feedback. Her class is difficult but if you go to her for help and make sure to participate in class it turns out fine. I'd take it again cuz I learned so much.
Find a different professor and save yourself the stress. Professor never provides examples/clear instructions/outlines which makes everything confusing and still proceeds to say thats not what she asked for and gives no credit. The book she asked for wasnt used. She can be very mean at times. Shes picky. She does respond to emails though.

Prof. Chapman always provides clear feedback and is engaging when questioning why you wrote the way you did. Many freshmen struggle with her because they are not prepared for college workloads or have a poor background in writing to begin with. Put in the work required and you will succeed in her classes.

Wonderful professor She is so nice and caring. Make sure you do the homework assigned asap. Along with take her notes/criticism on your essays well and use them to fix your essays. As long as you put in the effort you will pass. She is also has alot of office hours and you can schedule office hours with her that fits your schedule.
The classroom often feels like a hostile learning environment. Although the topics pique my interest, I feel uncomfortable speaking with Cheryl. I am met with convictive language and a demeaning work analysis. I do not feel productive in class and instead feel like I am constantly being judged. The work load is also extreme.
Made a very uncomfortable learning environment for many of her students. Directions for assignments were NEVER clear. I never felt comfortable enough to ask her questions due to her just making you feel dumb whenever you were to ask her a question. If you were to ask what to do on an assignment she would tell you everything except what to do.
