Took this class online over summer. I'd advise anyone to take this class. This class was an easy A as long as you follow all instructions. Teacher is great and very helpful if you don't understand something. This class has only 3 assignments: a syllabus quiz, paper, and powerpoint. That is it. I reccomend all to take!

Cheryl was a very upbeat outgoing teacher with a definite passion for the subject she teaches. Tests are difficult and reading the material is a MUST! You get back what you put into the course. Fantastic course, fantastic teacher, difficult material.

Prof Deflavis was able to take a routine class and make it something interesting. The lectures are fun and informative. And she is cute.

Great teacher, really involved, controversial topics mean close-minded people get upset and take it out on her here. All about her business, says from the beginning people need to own their educations and lives it. Loved her, learned a lot, would take again any chance I can.

Cheryl provides a college class that is actually taught like a college class. Sociology is a TOUGH subject. It's not an easy A for those looking for a smooth ride but is an incredibly interesting class! With this class you get what you put into it! Passing tests requires reading, and lectures are CHOC FULL of good information.

One of my favorite teachers by far! Show up and complete all assignments in class. Everything is needed to be read before the class. Not boring at all and everything is pretty straight forward. Would take her class again !

Hands down my favorite teacher I've ever had at HCC. She made each assignment interesting and relevant. She clearly explains each assignment and is always willing to help . She does take attendance, but I don't see why anyone would skip this class. She posts powerpoints online w/her voiceover, which makes it super easy to understand each chapter.

Hands down one of the best teachers at HCC. She is very nice and shes helpful with grades and getting the material down. She does take the time to go over everything with you and helps you understand when your having trouble. Absolutely worth taking her as a teacher for this course.

She's a pretty good professor. Only 2 tests and a lot of group work/activities. So it's best if you take this class with people you know if you're a shy person. She's very open-minded and her notes and the book is on canvas which is something I think all teachers should do so we can save money.

Cheryl was one of the best teachers I ever had the pleasure of learning from. She offers excellent feedback so you can really learn the material. She also strives to connect the material we are learning about to our lives so we can really experience and realize the real life effects of what we learn. She's also hysterical and super cool!

She is one of the best teachers I have had. This is not and easy A class but she as well isn't difficult. I feel you should approach every new class the same, expect to work hard to get an A. As long as you read all chapters, come to every class and participate in class you will succeed. She is always there to help ensure you understand everything.

This class was an easy A if you did the work. Lectures are done at home with 10 minute powerpoints and reading. Each class is group work based on a movie or article. She explains her expectations very clearly and if you do the material, you will pass.

She is a very nice professor and her classes were very interesting. For each chapter we would watch a video related to it, and those videos help people get more open minded, and therefore judging the phenomenons seen in society in a different way.

She's a really good Professor, she makes the class and material very relatable to every day life. She combines movies, news, documentaries, etc. to make the subjects easier to understand. If you do the work and come to class you will enjoy and pass this class NO PROBLEM, I promise! Seriously take this class, What are you waiting for GO SIGN UP NOW!

Ms. Deflavis is an awesome teacher! The classes are important to attend, however they pass by quickly and most of the assignments are group work. If everybody contributes to the grade and works efficiently, the assignments are easy. She thoroughly teaches everything that is included in the two tests. Favorite class at HCC so far. Take her class!!

I loved her lectures but i am not big on group work and all of her in class assignments are carried out by group work. wouldn't take again ONLY because of the group work thingie. other than that, a very good professor!

She is hilarious! The lectures are amazing because she interacts with the students and doesn't just sit there telling you everything. There are a lot of group projects but they are easy! She is a great teacher! I would definitely take her again.

Prof. DeFlavis gives great lectures in a conversational manner making understanding terms easy enough to do well on the exams, if you pay attention & take notes. Only hmwrk is reading chapters & watching PowerPoints in Canvas to discuss in class. Be prepared to work with others every other class. Book is free online. Extra credit is avail. :)

Professor DeFlavis was one of the best professors I have ever had. She is really compassionate about what she is talking about. You must be able to work in group settings, as that is what your classwork is. The class was extremely easy if you do your readings and take notes.

Professor Deflavis is an awesome teacher! This class really teaches you new ways to think about life and others. We looked at many great films to grasp the concept of sociology as well as in class discussions that can occasionally make one feel uncomfortable but remember -- it is normal. I highly recommend this professor!!

She is an excellent teacher and uses many popular pop-culture references for the class. She is kind/caring, bout also strict. Attending the class is very important especially sense there is alot of group work. Pay attention, read, and show up - and youll do fine.

Without studying and turning in all of my work I still managed to get a high B in the course. Clear grading rubric, chance for extra credit, she's very clear when she lectures and puts material into context so it's easily understandable.

Professor Deflavis is one of those professors thats really just passionate about their field which makes the class interesting. As long as you participate youre set. I really didnt even need to take notes because our class discussions were so engaging I always remembered stuff. AND the textbook is free.

She is awesome. Super chill and encourages a relaxed environment. Makes jokes and pretty easy going as long as you respect her and her time. Group project almost every class but a super easy grade if you just read the textbook. Midterm is a project instead of a test and the final is online. Would definitely take again.

Amazing prof. She's real with you from the start. Syllabus sets everything up. A lot of reading (she can tell if you didn't). Class is a reversed class, so you do a lot of "Data workshops" which is basically group work on whatever readings the night before. Midterm which is a connections map, and a final test. Best thing is it's online.

Awesome professor, became interested in sociology outside of the class thanks to what I learned. You primarily take notes, discuss topics in class, then get into groups for data workshops and class activities. As long as youre reading the chapters and taking the notes she graciously puts on canvas, you will do well in class and on the tests.

DeFlavis is the best professor I had this past semester. Her classes are interesting and its going to help you understand others perspective. Make sure you know about the topic before the class.

Great class

Awesome teacher. She uses a "flipped classroom" method which was really cool and I succeeded in it. We watch lectures at home and do assignments in class. She also shares a lot of helpful material, and doesn't just sit and get paid for doing nothing. I like her.

This is an easy class that is easy to pass just make sure you watch the chapter videos and the study guide for the three tests that are in the class. This is such an easy A everything is simple and easy to understand definitely recommend to anyone.

Ms. Deflavis is a great professor. She uses a flipped classroom style so be prepared to read on your own time. Its not too much reading, and she supplies you with chapter summaries in the form of PowerPoint notes. There is also a lot of group work in this class. Overall, just read your chapters and youll do great.

Literally one of the best professors I've ever had! it's a flipped course, lecture and reading at home and discussion and group work in class. If you stay on top of you reading and notes, you'll pass with no problem. She works with you and is very understanding.

There is a lot of group work in this class. Find a good group in the beginning and youre golden. The professor really cares about her subject, which is very inspirational. The class discussions are fun and the content is very informing.

Shes a really good teacher. Her class is not boring but for homework youll have to read chapters online that arent that much if you take her during the fall/spring instead of summer. Ms. Cheryl Deflavis is productive, respectable, helpful, and phenomenally clear. While giving critical information on all subjects. Prepare to write or type every single detail, it matters (seriously). To be fair, the professor is intellectually passioninate when it comes to understanding Soicology. I suggest thinking ahead and be practical !

this professor was really understanding, the kahoot engages the class, and group classwork is really easy if you have the vocab down, she takes down your worst score if you miss a test, a real hoot!

Professor Deflavis was a good teacher. She gives many examples and has a flipped classroom. Most of the assignments are group work but they aren't difficult. The online textbook is provided. She also gives out extra credit.

If you're a sociology major student I would recommend Professor Deflavis because she'll present different examples that will help you understand how sociology works in reality, with that being said, she also helps students to understand the topic if anything is not clear. My experience to her class is challenging and fine.

Overall professor Deflavis was such a great professor. She is super caring and is willing to work with you under any circumstance as long as you let her know in advance what the issue is. Very transparent and honest about any topic.

Really short class. Only 1 quiz and 1 discussion per week for 6 weeks and one big essay. The quizzes are the hardest part, (not because of the content but the fact that they were weighed so heavily). She was a relatively easy grader but make sure you go in-depth in analysis when writing the essay and discussion postings.

This is the best professor Ive ever had in college. She is so funny, Cares about our grades and help us a lot. Her class felt like a good place for me. I felt comfortable, I was always laughing and learning a lot.

Attendance isnt mandatory, but Professor Deflavis makes class so funny and interesting and relatable it makes you want to go. Your grade is based on 3 tests (on canvas), a concept map and a good amount of group work all done in class. I really recommend her class.

Professor Deflavis is great! She is very clear and loves it when students participate and discuss in class. It is very difficult to fail this class if you are an active listener and complete her assignments. The class itself makes you think outside of your own beliefs, so be prepared to keep an open mind. I took this professor for Sociology, she was amazing and really cared about us as students. All tests are online and there are only 3, and she lets you drop the lowest test grade and of your lowest class work grade. Easy A class and you dont need to buy a book either! Highly recommend this professor!

Im just gonna start off by saying she's funny. She's a easy grader just do what she says and actually listen to what she's talking about. Usually gets off topic but its always ends in a laugh. She turns sensitive topics into funny topics. Show up often and get a good group.. oh and be nice and don't walk out her class (she hates that)

Prof. DeFlavis is SUPER sweet. She's very organized with assignments. Everything you need is on Canvas and in the free textbook online. I suggest bringing a laptop to class. Reading the textbook is ABSOLUTELY REQUIRED! After you read the chapter and take vocab notes, she plays Kahoot with the class! Also, she likes to be called by her first name!

I enjoyed the course and the transition from physical classes to online ones was easy during the quarantine.

She is one of the most understanding professors Ive had, I took Sociology online during the pandemic and she made sure all the students were safe and if there were any problems and you couldnt submit an assignment she would let you submit it late for full credit. Very caring, def would take again.
