boring, boring........ oh yeah did i mention boring? ****er is such a nice lady but it is so hard to stay awake in class. whatever you do, don't take her for a 3 hour class, its torture! she is a tough grader also

Very serious. Very easy to take notes. Provides very clear slides, handouts, review sheets. Most amazing - remains polite and professional, even to the students who are rude to her when they don't like their grades. I don't think I could be so nice.
Just want to say I personally like her perfume. Some people can be so tacky. Anyway, she has always been available to me when I have had questions about class or schedules or speech therapy overall, and she has been very helpful.
I have to say that she is very dedicated to her students and to the clinic and that she is a very good resource for ideas. Talking to her helped me clarify my ideas. She always seems to be able to put into words what I want to say.
Looks like that batch who blew the first exam and complained the entire rest of the semester have found this site. Lose the attitude, girls, and be thankful for the one of the most knowledgeable and organized teachers around.
Not approachable and her lectures are very boring. She throws test questions in her tests that come out of nowhere &/or are very unclear. She gives no leeway. Also seems to have a bit of OCD. Why can't there be more Dr. Means in the speech dept??!
horrible! worst teacher ive had at WCU yet! her tests are rediculous! ALL memorization of definitons and just writing them out on the test. no objective questions! EVER! bases her grades on 4 tests & that's it! do your best to get another teacher if you can. she's extremely boring & so soft spoken!
BORING!!!!!! She is very soft spoken, your whole grade is based on 4 tests, she does not offer any type of paper, is very set in her ways!! The tests are all memorization and eventhough she offers study guides they are still impossibly hard-- all short answer.
She is so nice and willing to do anything to help her students. Her class isn't easy but as long as you work hard you will do well. When ever you need extra help go to her and she will definatley help you.
This teacher gives 4 tests and thats IT!! all fill IN!! this lady needs a new hair-do and smaller glasses and she resembles a little troll lady..scary and not helpful.....I am not a B student and I studied for like a week for each test and continued to get Bs......
Horrible! Avoid her. The tests are ridiculous. She is so boring and not that nice. Is she trying to discourage people from continuing in the major? I thought the world needed more speech pathologists!
WOrst class I've ever taken. Acts extremely nice, but is impossible to talk to. The tests are absolutely ridiculous and nothing from the book. cannot miss a single word that she says. Tests are all fill in and she takes points off every question and won't tell you why. Don't take her classes!
I don't knwo what everyone else is talking about but her tests were not that hard. If you paid attention in class and studied your notes, you got an "A" in her class! DUH!
She is the worst ever. She makes you think she's nice but she really isn't. She doesn't understand that we have other classes to study for. She wants us to memorize everything. (Get a life lady) SHe does look like a little troll with glasses. She needs better teaching skills.
Don't ever miss class. Write down everything she says, then memorize it word for word and you will get an A. I swear. Smart person, but not very animated.
Worst teacher I have ever had in my life. She needs to be fired. If u take her and major in comm disorders u will have to take her again. DONT DO IT! She is rude and unapproachable. She marked stuff wrong on my test that was right and then never changed it.
Just horrible, she gave us 4 test and the class average was 76%, she seriously needs to reevaluate her teaching style. Her powerpoints are unimaginative and the lectures will bore you to death, but do not miss one. Memorizing is the key here, how does she expect people to learn this way is beyond me
I cannot believe this woman runs our department. She needs to re-evaluate her life, and stop teaching. She is absolutely terrible. Almost half the class had to repeat because she is so boring, unclear, unhelpful and condescending. Her exams are rediculous. Too bad you can't avoid her because she's the ONLY PERSON WHO TEACHES IT. Horrible.
absolute worst class of my life. everyones right when they say you literally have to memorize the notes she gives and if you dont write it down word for word on the test you basically dont get full credit. the first test we had, a few kids got grades in the 20s and the class average was a D...yeah good luck if you have her cuz youll need it
She is the worst. Ever.
Her lectures are very boring and dry, and she is a huge stickler for details - either it's her way or it's wrong. I got okay grades with her but hated every minute of it. You get the feeling that she hasn't ever -been- a speech therapist, she's just read about it for years and years and years...and wants to torture you with boredom!
The worst part about this Professor is that as a Communicative Disorders major we have to take this horrible woman. She is by far the worst teacher and person I have ever met! I know that seems harsh but it really is sadly the truth. But because she is the only Professor for these classes we must take her. WCU needs to do something about her!!
this troll is out of control!!!! she continues to fail very competent students. she has a self-image complex that she takes out on her students. she is rude, unhelpful, and needs to be fired. or...needs to see a psychologist.

Whoever wrote the comment below must be one of her favorites! She is by far the most terrible and uninformative professor I have ever had! Good luck in this class to whoever has to suffer through it.

Very good teacher. A true weeding out teacher but is willing to help if you ask. You just have to step up to the plate and go to her. I found her to be extremely helpful, considerate and flexible. She truly does care about her students. She is actually one of teh most flexible teachers I have had so far.
I wasn't sure what I was going to get but I have to say I think she is the best teacher I have ever had. She inspires me.
Her class is extremely hard to sit through but you cannot miss a single word of what she says because you will have to reproduce every single detail on the exam. She is a NICE person but an impossible professor. She truly just wants students to be be competent therapists for the benefit of the patients, but she is beyond frustrating.
BRING A TAPE RECORDER TO CLASS N SIT IN THE FRONT! shes very soft speaken.use the tape recorder along w your notes 2 study b/c its impossible 2 write every thing she says & her powerpoints r useless! when takin the test,rewrite every question in the answer, if not she'll mark it wrong,n say hows this relate 2 the question.rote memorize everything!
Pros: Very nice person. Knows her stuff. respects hard work and is not entirely inflexible. Cons: high expectations. hard tester. you must regurgitate lecture almost exactly to the detail. things show up on test that either werent covered or it was implied they aren't important. study guide is worthless. Powerpoints could be a lot better.
Must attend class to copy down everything she says because you are expected to write it down on the exam. SHe is a very hard grader but is willing to help you. She notices people who try hard.
I had Dr. ****er for undergrad and now again for grad. She honestly just wants everyone to learn and grow. Fair and extremely helpful. If you think it's hard, consider another major. Professors in CD are responsible for making sure we are good clinicians which means making sure we know the info and how to use it. Anything less would be unethical.
Doesn't take attendance, but you have to go in order to do at least semi-well on the tests. Don't bother with the textbook, just take REALLY good notes. Only gives tests, so no side work to boost your grade, but she does give a helpful study guide for the test.
unbelievably difficult, exhausting tests. even A students have trouble finishing in the time allotted. too detail oriented! she can't eliminate any fact from the test, everything is critical--she needs help with that. big time stress factor with her classes. dont like her as an instructor. powerpoints suck-worthless. memorize book and lecture
As a person she is wonderful. As a teacher not so good. There are several ways to teach and every person learns in a different way. She seems to be reluctant to alter her teaching and testing style. The students are expected to learn, but I think she makes no effort to teach the material in a way that all her students CAN learn.
Dr.G is a sweet lady but the most boringggg prof. in all of WCU. Her tests are impossible and your hand will literally cramp up during tests. She barely offers extra credit and she does not give real life examples of the material
You will learn what you need to know if you can do well in her class. I remember more from her class than any others. style is hard as far as tests, but worth it because you really learn. tape her lectures & Put in the time studying and you will benefit because she gives you every detail you need to know in lecture
look over your test 5 times if possible, however you will probably run out of time to do do.
You need to put more into this class than any other. Memorizing everything from the book and lecture. If you talk about something in depth there will only be one question on the exam, but if it is briefly mentioned in passing there will be 10 questions about it. You need to be well-versed in communication disorders.
class is interesting but there's so much material & if you take a summer class you better be prepared to study your life away.She will touch on one topic and make numerous test questions on it. You can go over a topic for two classes and have 2 questions on the test.MUST read the book b/c some stuff she will test but not lecture. study study study!
Dr. Gunter is well-prepared for her lectures - style is discourse. Power points are only an outline so good netes are essential. Tests are VERY challenging - nearly 100% essay so you have to study hard. Things you are sure will be on the test are absent. She doesn't return emails and makes no efforts to call people by their names.
Please Heed this Warning! No matter what your GPA is or how well you do in her class, do NOT ask her to write a letter of recommendation. This comes from several students that have had high GPA's and got an A in her class. She will give you a smile and promise to write a good letter - she is deceitful. Please consider anyone else!
Extremely knowledgeable about clinical practice. Runs a very orderly, lecture-based class. Tests are completely open-ended responses. Must come to class, take good notes, and study hard for an A
Very knowledgeable and experienced in the clinic. Her teaching style takes a little while to get used to- LISTEN and TAKE GREAT NOTES. Everything she says is important. Study ahead of time to do well on the tests- they are extensive. Learned a lot once I got used to her lectures and exams. Don't drop her for an easier teacher.
Bring you laptop to class and type every word she says. The tests are all short answers 25 questions (a-f) so it is longer than she makes it sound. EXTREMELY HARD so you need to attend class bc her pwrpts are only the titles and study a lot! She is very nice and willing to help though
Try to avoid having her as a professor or advisor if you can...they say you can't change advisors but it's been done. Previous comments are correct, do not ask for a letter of recommendation. she is deceitful; as outstanding a student you may be, she will insult you in some way...this comes from many students

While her tests are difficult and tricky, she is very knowledgeable and willing to answer questions. I was in a Tuesday and Thursday class and sometimes it got very dull... but as long as you take good note and use her study guide it's a pretty easy B.
Go to class, either write down or record everything that she says (I typed my notes). When she gives you the study guide, which is just a list of terms and concepts to know, add all of the notes you have for that term and study from that. Tests are all short answer but not very long responses are needed. However, your hand will cramp up at times.

Don't get me wrong. This professor know a lot about communication disorders. However, she does not know how to teach! Her lectures are extremely long and boring. She drags everything out. Her tests are worded completely different than how she lectures. I went to her for help and she just said she would "cross her fingers for me". No help at all!:

Those that can inspire should teach --she is not. No textbook/handouts -strictly lecture-no taping her lectures. Tests are all open ended questions-upwards to 70 questions-never enough time. Write down every single thing she says & even that isn't enough. Tests are extremely specific & questions are based off tiny details she mentions during lecture. Your grade is based off of two 100 point tests and 100 points worth of pop quizzes. Never hands back tests so never sure what you got wrong. Supposedly changes class each semester.

Attendance is optional and does not give you points, but she still does roll call. Tempted to skip? If you miss a pop quiz - you receive a zero, no make ups. DONT MISS! I worked very hard in this class for a B. Many nights were spent crying. Two 100 point tests, pop quizzes, and some homework. Work hard even during times there seems to be no point.
You could write down every word that comes out of her mouth during lectures and you still won't get the questions right on the test. All she does is lecture in a confusing way. Every single question is a trick and it makes you feel stupid. This semester she did in class short writing assignments and 2-3 page reviews instead of pop quizzes.
As a person she's nice, but as a professor she is the worst. No one can follow what she is talking about in lectures because she rambles about nonsense. Your grade consists of two very long papers (only 25 points each), a midterm (100 pts), and a final (100 pts). Basically if you do bad on an exam, you're done. Boring too.
She wasn't terrible...3 exams and 4 papers but the 4th paper is super short and you can do all of them in groups. Tests were hard but doable if you study A LOT. Bring your laptop and type every word she says because she puts every single thing on the test. Class is tiring because you always have to be typing and paying very close attention.
Wasn't as difficult as I was expecting. Class is very lecture heavy, and I would highly recommending bringing a laptop because she gives you ALOT of info in a short period of time. Also, study ALOT for the exams (100 Qs - multiple choice, t/f, matching), but if you know the material you'll do fine. She also gave 4 short papers which weren't bad.
3 exams, 4 papers (can work in groups). attendance isn't mandatory but if you skip you won't be able to get that information from just her powerpoints. bring a laptop to type every single word she says. study even the info you think is irrelevant for the exams and try wording it weirdly when studying bc her questions won't be what you expect.

She isnt mean but -her textbook that she wrote is $180 -her tests have some questions that are ridiculous -she apparently writes mean things in letters of rec. She was on academic probation for failing too many people. 4 writing assignments and 3 multiple choice/true and false tests. Tough and you do learn but this class can be ridiculous
Worst professor at WCU. Her tests are very tough and she is not very helpful. Her lectures are very hard to sit through. She comes off like a nice person but will throw shade at you. Try to avoid taking her if you can.
She is not a good professor at all. I ended up teaching myself most of the material that I should have learned in class. The only positive thing is that she is willing to meet with you during her office hours and during appointment.
I did not learn a single thing from her and I had to teach myself all the material. Her lectures did not make much sense and she takes forever to grade test scores. I would try to avoid taking her at all costs.
Really sucks that you probably can't avoid taking her at some point if you're a CSD major but shes the worst. I feel bad because she is so sweet but she needs to stop teaching. I try so hard to study and feel like i know everything then the test is just 100 confusing multiple choice questions. The 3 hours are so painful and I refuse to do it again
The only grades in the class are 4 test and if you fail one you are basically screwed. If you can try to avoid taking her. She just needs to retire at this point.
Nothing positive to say, just an all around awful professor. I hope to never have to take her ever again. Be advised if you are taking her class.
She is a hard teacher, no doubt. Her tests are not just about regurgitating facts; you have to think critically about information and put pieces together. You do have to buy her textbook because she pulls from it. Type down EVERY single thing she says, this is not an exaggeration; she speaks slowly so it isn't as hard as it sounds. 4 HWs as well.
This is the worse professor I have ever taken. She does not answer questions, she teaches one thing and tests on another and does not post grades in a timely fashion if at all. No one in my class received their grade on the final. We emailed her multiple times for the grade with no response then the class disappeared off D2L all together.
Not much information on powerpoints or study guides, must write down everything she says during the class, which is tedious and not as accurate as if she just put the info she wants us to know on the powerpoints, best part of class is watching youtube movies with gross voice problems lol, the rest is very boring
Her class is tough. Yes you MUST write everything down. This is NOT an exaggeration. Despite this, you really learn the material. This is not some class where you print the powerpoint, not pay attention, then teach yourself everything when you are studying for the test (because there are definitely some CSD classes where you can do that lol)
Her tests are long and difficult, and dont make sense. She is a sweet lady, but shouldnt teach anymore. Her lectures are interesting, but the slides are very minimalistic, so write everything down. I wouldnt take her if you dont need to, but you do for CSD.
Had her twice 204 & 329 So sweet and understanding if you have to miss test But SUCH A HARD teacher. only grades are 3 tests and 3-4 outside exams. no breaks during 3 hr class talks extremely slow hard to stay focus. her mult choice had 2 wrong, right and what is MOST right. way too old school style 1st 10-20 Q's are ALWAYS from txtbk so READ
She is SUCH a sweet lady but she is not a great professor. The hardest part is that she phrases all her 100 q tests weirdly so they are just brutal. I never got back 2/4 tests in the first class I had with her, but she did better on this one. Write everything down and read the articles she posts, that helps a little. It sucks, no sugarcoating it
Literally horrible. Her tests are brutal and worded so weird and are 100 questions. She's my least favorite professor at west chester and I truly cannot believe she's even a professor.

I actually liked her. I learned so much in that class. It sometimes sucked having to type every single word and example down (yes, you really do have to do that with her class) but I think I learned the material better that way. Her tests are hard, this is true. But not impossible. I got an A in this class.
You have to take notes on her PowerPoints. She talks really slow which allowed time to write what I needed to but I felt like I was in kindergarten. You have a cartoon character patient that you treat as a group or alone. It was really weird. The feedback would tell you why you lost points but figuring out what to do could be difficult.
