Mrs. Hall is a cool teacher who loves what she does.
this woman is crazy, but she's not hard at all. she's kinda mean though. the book is of no use in this class. just listen to her lectures and you'll be fine
No Comments
She is really easy and makes theatre really fun(even if your like me and can't act if your life depended on it)! Funny and energetic teacher!
she may be crazy but she is cool.
i would definately recommend taking ms. hall!! she is the best teacher ever and makes this class so much fun!! she's crazy and always makes you laugh!
Mrs. Hall is good as a teacher, but the one bad thing is the final... you and your group have to write and produce your own ten minute play. This can be fun, but then if you get a group of total losers who do not do anything, you're screwed.
She does not explain half the things that appear on the test. The tests were hard and even coming to class and reading the required text did not help.
Shes a nutt but she is great and she loves what she does and she is willing to help those that need it you just have to ask and she will let you change groups if you can give a valid reason, take her if you can!
this teacher is absolutely horrible. she is so boring and so long winded i almost fall asleep in her class everyday. she is so annoyingly dramatic and she loves the sound of her own voice. she may be easy, but make sure you take her during may term or summer term b/c you will go insane otherwise.
She is clear, direct, fun and teaches you a good amount. it is fun to go to class and it is fun to see all the psychological game involved in creating/viewing theatre
Cheryl is amazing! Don't take her class thinking that it's a blow-off. This woman knows her stuff as anyone who has ever worked with her knows. She is a marvelous teacher and a brilliant director. Her class requires a little work, but it is well worth it.
Cheryl ROCKS! She's awesome. She'll make you work for it, but you'll have a great time.
She is so awesome. One of the easiest and funnest professors I have ever had. I have enjoyed her class so much. I wish all professors were like her. She's the best
She was okay. I was interested in the class because I thought it would be fun, but her exams are harder than to be expected. Studying never helped me. Everything else is pretty fun, though, if you have a good group. Show up on days that most people don't and you'll get a "brownie point" for each time added to your grade at the end of the semester.
Her quizzes and exams are nothing like the notes. Just because you come to class and take notes, does not mean you will do well on the tests, they are harder than you'd think. No attendance policy and the class is fun if you get a good group.
She is a good teacher. The only thing I did not like is that all your work in the class only total 100 point. If you mis two quizzes(5pt apiece) you can only an A if you made perfect on evrything else. The quizzes are takeing in a group and they are easy. The exam are easy to if you read the chapters.
This **** reminds me of some cracked out stupid ass bill cosby. Dude, she is ugly as **** and more annoying then false fire alarms. She always says good morning and then i just want to put my pencil thru my eye. Its ****in theatre and it should not be so hard. she is a no talent ass wipe. she really doesnt care about her students. ****
I really enjoyed Theatre, but Mrs. Hall was not always the best to get along with. Her exams were hard and she mixed some of her own information up wrong on the test. The final presentations were fun though.
Did not like this professor AT ALL. INCREDIBLY unorganized, "forgot" to tell us stuff, never showed up on time, didn't care anything about the students, etc. Waaay to hard for an elective class. If at all possible, skip this teacher. I've got the book if you have her, I'll sell it for $40. [email protected]
Hello. I enjoyed this class, but Mrs. Hall is kind of wacky. The class is very interesting. If you need the book.... Another Opening, Another Show....2nd Edition email me at [email protected]. Do not believe anyone if they tell you you will not need the book. Most of the test questions came from the book.
This teacher is incredibly unorganized, her quizzes don't match her notes, and she's a total goofball. Avoid her, and take her husband's class; Jack Cannon.
idiot. comletely unorganized and rude. She is a meanie when you try to ask for help. If I had to do it again I would take her husbands class. It is ridiculously hard for an elective.
what an interesting teacher!!
Besides the fact that she is rude and intimidating, she lectures on one thing and tests on something else. You definitely need the book and please treat this class as you would a more serious course. It is not easy, and she don't try to make it easy. She dont even want you to ask her questions about the class. Take her husband he is more stable
She is unorganized. Her test are not like her notes and when she talks a kitten dies. She is annoying and does not care about the students. She will keep you after time and it could be a fun class, but she messed that up. It looks like others have said take Cannon...I would think anything could be better and more fun.
Very good personality, definitely makes it an interesting class. Yes she gives a lot of quizzes, but so long as you read the plays beforehand, they're easy. Not a hard class at all and an interesting professor.
Whoever is complaining about this class must be extremely lazy or total idiots. If you are expecting easy electives, go to a community college. If you want to get some interesting perspective on theater, take this class. Dr. Hall is wonderful. You do have to read the book, but that should be any college class.
An eccentric, loud, and energetic woman. She has group quizes that are easy, and individual quizes based on reading the textbook and plays. Although my individual quiz grades werent the best, I did well on the one paper we had to write and the final, which was a group play. The paper and the final were high percentage grades boosting me to an A!
take her if you like to play and laugh (that kid in you) but if you like to talk and think its a blow off class don;t take it because yall make it hard for us who take the group quizzez and the group play. She's fun and likes to play. u don't have to act all grown wen ur in this class. just sit back and have fun! she likes to b called gorgeous
She is extremely DRAMATIC, but the course is easy to pass
She's really silly, but that's awesome because it makes for a fun learning experience. I always laugh in this class. The quizzes are easy enough if you just pay attention. Great class to take if you actually want to learn about the theatre. Not a good idea if you just want to goof off and get an easy A.
She thinks she is hilarious, but is not! Tests are designed JUST to trip students up. I have never been so bored and annoyed in any class ever! Worst teacher Ive ever had! My love for theatre has been destroyed!
She's really not hard at all. If you just read the textbook then you will make 100's on all of her tests. Generally what she teaches isn't exactly reflected in her tests, but it is related to the textbook. Enroll and have fun. She definitely likes to have a good time and suggests that you call her "Gorgeous". lol.
not very hard. you need to read the chapters and go to the class that is before the exams because she reviews. likes to add things that she didn't discuss in lecture sometimes. final is a 10 minute play. you receive the points as long as you show up for rehearsals. easy teacher if you just need a fine art.
this is the worst professor ever! This is the only class i have ever made a B in. this is an easy class to pass, but making an A is VERY difficult. The grades are based on a points system. if you lose a pt you never get it back. so one little screw up will cost you your grade. her tests are subjective and tricky. DONT TAKE IT IF U NEED AN A!
Not the easiest of the theatre professors but definately not hard. She is an easy grader on the paper and offers bonus points for attendence. She is also entertaining and interesting.
She is a kind of weird teacher, but her class is very easy. She gives 7 five point quizes and 4 tests. They were so easy. You also do a play which can be fun or not, whatever you make it to be. I recommend you take this class to raise your gpa.
Mrs. Hall is hilarious and a lot of fun. Although not officially, attendance is essentially mandatory, as she has quizzes almost every day. If you just read the material and go to class, you will be fine. She can be a little short with people, but she's mostly just being silly. 1 thing, though, she likes Michael Bay and not Tim Burton. WEIRD!
She is a great theatre teacher. She seems to really know her stuff. I personally like her and would recommend her to anyone. I have also gained quite a bit knowledge by taking this course. I will also say that it is not an easy A! That is all
shes really not that hard, you just have to read alot. i personally withdrew from her class because i could not stand her. nothing she says in class is on the test so if u get stuck with her, read! i think she has something mentally wrong with her. SHES NUTS!
This was a very easy class, but she was also very annoying. She tends to scream for no reason, but it makes lecture interesting I guess. We had a couple of tests and a play at the end. Class is a breeze. Read the book for sure though.
Super easy. Attendance isn't mandatory, but towards the end there are quizzes that are just signing in. The tests are pretty easy if you took lecture notes. I had to see 2 plays, but they're pretty cheap.
She is crazy! BUT it was an easy class. As long as you go, you can get an A. If you miss points, there is no way to get them back. i.e. if you miss a five point quiz, the highest you can have in the class is a 95. Makes it a little tougher..
I still don't like this teacher after 4 years because she gave me a C When I worked really hard and wrote the play at the end. I refused to cheat on her dumb quizzes and got a C. hate hate hate, don't take her
And if you want to know my honest opinion I think she decided to give me a C after I talked to her in person about how I felt about getting the bulk of out play writing assignment. My classmates we're helping or contributing and she pinned it on me not being a good team player. I should have gotten a much better grade.
She is absolutely nuts! I would never take another one of her classes. I have an A but I really had to work for it. If you want a coherent professor take the other person.
She is absolutely Nutts!! I have an A in this class but I had to work really hard for it. She's very unfriendly if you have any questions to ask. She will even scream at you. If you want a coherent professor, take the other person.
Very Animated butfunny! I took her for the Maymester and it was the easiest thing ever. Just listen to powerpoints and go to class to get the random extra points she gives out and you will get an A!
She is awful...I missed two quizzes because my grandmother passed away...when I came back, I took her the proper documentation to make them up and she seriously looked at me and said, "Well, that sucks." She's useless. Easy A if you go to class, though. She's super annoying if you can stand her terrible accented voice.
Mrs. Hall's class is extremely easy. She's very energetic and has quite the attitude. She's a little unorganized, but it just makes class more fun.
I LOVED HER!!! She is an awesome teacher and I would recommend her to everyone. We had to read play scripts and then we watched the film. I really enjoyed it. She makes class fun and tried to be entertaining and interesting.
Horrible teacher. If you want to be defeaned by her schreeching voice, then by all means take her class.
Ms Hall is animated, exciting and fun. Her play writing gets you involved in actual theatre and teaches you about it. Most students who complained about class would never have liked it anyway as they do not get 'theater' and wanted an easy 'A'. they are usually the ones busy texting thru class...lol...
Dr. Hall is an excellent professor. The class is fun. She is energetic and passionate about theater. Some people complain but those are the ones that are not inerested in theater. Some complain over stupid thing, like her annoying voice. Seriously?
Mrs.Hall is extremely funny and fun to watch but this does not make up for the fact that you only get 100 pts all semester. She gives about 7 pages of notes each day (No Joke) She randomly gives quizzes usually after 2-3 weeks of notes so it is impossible to know the 5 vague questions. You basically need a miracle to pass this class.
Grating voice and sarcastic tone sometimes, but the information is pretty basic. No textbook, but you do have to read and attend a play.
Cheryl's class was a great break between all of my hard classes. She's very interesting to sit and listen to, but she's like olives: you either really like her or you don't at all. If you can stand crazy and reading scripts and need an extra credit, take her film class its worth it!
The only reason I didnt get an A in this class is because I missed two quizzes. She is the EASIEST professor Ive ever had. I took her for 100 and 200, and shes more fun to listen to than most. I thought 100 was easy, but 200 is just reading scripts, watching the movies, taking a quiz online, and one easy paper (I got 100 on mine). SO EASY TAKE HER!
Seemed very easy going in the beginning but as the semester went on the more uptight and rude as the semester went on. Not helpful at all, answered all questions with a sarcastic tone. So glad I only had to deal with her attitude for a mini-semester.
Pretty fun class in my opinion. I would have had an A if I would have actually took the time out to study for the tests.
Horrid teacher, did not force groups to work at all.
I could not stand this class or the teacher. She's very sarcastic and rude, but is occasionally funny (does not make up for her down sides by any means). I made a B in this "easy" class, and I'm an A student. Don't take this class if you can help it. The other fine art classes are much better to fit that requirement on your transcript.
Great teacher! Loved this class!
Easy class, she gives extra credit. The some of the scripts and films are unbearable. On a few occasions the quiz was one question that said "answer true" I wasted my time watching 3 or 4 films because of this.
Think of what a theatre teacher might be like, and you have Mrs. Hall (or as she liked us to call her, "Gorgeous"). She makes this class is fairly easy as long as you review the lecture for the exams, and the 10 minute original play you have to present is actually kind of fun. Easy class, good instructor.
Cheryl was generally a good instructor who had a lot of charisma. I believe that she made some of the earlier quizzes a little too difficult for a 100 level course. She posts her lectures on blackboard, but I recommend taking notes in class. Study and you will make an A...it's that simple.
Lectures from the book. Word for word. So, why even read it? Is this how college is supposed to be?
I took her plays on film class and although I read every single play and watched every movie I always managed to miss one or two questions which really messed up my grade. There are two tests which are worth 20 points and then the final exam is worth 10 points which is ridiculous. It is as if she wants you to fail such an easy class.
A complete JOKE. Just put her videos on mute and copy down the powerpoint notes. I wish she would've just uploaded the powerpoints instead on adding her irrelevant commentary with her God awful microphone. Some of the tests and quizzes required LockDown browser so beware. You only need the Piano Lesson and that's it.
Took her online Plays on Film class. Her quizzes were really short and if you missed one question it pretty much debunked your whole grade. It was really frustrating because I would read the plays and watch the films and I would always miss one question out of five. which is an automatic C. Don't take it even if it is for your humanitarian credit
She was an ok professor. She only took attendance on the days when you worked on your group project. All of the test material came from her poweropoints, so pay attention and take good notes. Easy A.
Super easy if you go to class and take notes.
Cheryl is very energetic, truly loves what she does. Show up every day, especially for the group play days, or you may get counted off. Don't need the textbook at all, everything comes from taking notes off slideshow lectures. You must see a couple plays, but uab theatre is amazing. class is only 100 points but take notes show up & you'll do well.
I never thought I would make a B in theater but it happened. Its clear she loves her job, but takes it too seriously. I had more notes in her class that any of my other classes and she asks very specific questions on her exams. Yes you will have exams in this theater class. I did not have a lot of fun as I though I would.
Cheryl was pretty cool in the beginning of the semester a; Take notes, a few pop quizzes, group work for a play and two tests. But as the semester went on, I felt like she just didn't want to be there. It became harder to ask her questions and having a class full of freshmen that didn't want to be there i think made her hate the class.
She's a great teacher! Met a lot of people too! Her lectures are kinda long, but I recommend paying attention and taking notes because she can be specific on her exams. Easy class if you put in effort.
Took this class for a fine art credit. Pointless for my major though. Her class is lecture heavy and if you don't pay attention you will probably fail your exam. Group projects are listed on the syllabus but for each group day you miss is so much off of your grade. Great teacher if Theatre is your thing. She does have a tendency to be loud though.
She starts lectures In class but rarely finishes them, so you have to get the last part of the lecture from canvas. You have to memorize every single detail from her lectures in order to pass her tests: playwright's names, dates... I didn't realize I signed up for another history class. Not an easy A and I'm an A student.
She starts off lecture-heavy and can't finish her lectures during class time, so you'll have to catch yourself up on Canvas. Take lots of notes, tests can get specific. We took group quizzes and even had to write and act out our own play. If that doesn't sound like something you are comfortable with, maybe pick someone else for your fine art credit
Whatever group you're in will have s major affect on your grade for intro to theatre
not a bad course, easy online, you just have to be on top of your stuff and you won't have any problem passing. super chill and easy.
I liked Cheryl. I liked this course. The only downside is that your group is going to make or break your grade. I recommend that you, as an individual, stay on top of the information because of all the group work may not actually end up being actual group work.
Took this class online and it was definitely an easy A. A few papers and a group project that only took 10 minutes to do. Well worth the fine arts credit.
I took THR 200 online my freshman year (Fall 2016) and it was an easy A. I just read the plays and did whatever else was assigned to earn the grade I received.
This class was pretty easy. Some of the plays, you actually have to read because they are not online, but some, not all, of the plays were enjoyable. 6 plays(quizzes), 6 discussion posts, 1 test(midterm), and a paper. There was suppose to be a survey but she took it away at the last second. Low commitment. Highly recommend for fine art credit.
Attendance only mandatory during group projects/quizzes. Very passionate about theatre. Only 2 exams, and a lot of material is covered. Required to go see 2 plays (pay for your own ticket). Participation is key.
This should be an easy A class. Very little assignments which means you will need to do well on all of them. The video lectures could have been better but overall it worked out.
Professor Hall is a wonderful professor. I recommend taking Theatre 200 to any Nursing major that needs there Fine Arts credit. You're only required to read about 6 different short plays that she gives 5 question quizzes on, which are reading comprehension questions, along with a 20 question test based on the recorded lectures on Canvas.
This was an easy online class!! I really did not read any of the plays and managed to get an A. Just watch the lecture videos and take the quizzes.
This class was really easy. I needed a fine arts credit and I wanted an easier class that would allow me to focus on my major classes. This was the class for that. You have to purchase the plays required but they are easy reads and some of them are on sparknotes. The assignments are 5 point quizzes, one 20 point exam, and several discussions. Easy.
All I did was read the scripts, take a few quizzes, and write a few papers. There was one ProctorU exam (where people watch you take a test through your webcam, it's horrible) but that was the only thing I hated. The scripts were interesting. Her audio lectures are terrible quality, and I barely knew what she was saying. But it's an easy A for sure
Cheryl Hall's in class lectures do not match up with her tests/quizzes. Will need to listen to lectures online to pass so attending in class lectures are not beneficial. She gets off topic most of the time and don't even finish her lectures. Would not recommend Cheryl Hall's Theatre 100 class if you are just taking theatre for the fine arts credit
Very easy class. Read the selected plays, take a 5 question quiz and complete a discussion for each reading. There is one exam that is taken through ProcturU. That was the only challenging assignment. There was about 4 lectures in all. She also gives 5 extra points at the start of class. She is easy to get in touch with. I finished with a 100%.
She is an extremely easy grader. You have to read 6 scripts and take a 5 question quiz and write a 3+ sentence discussion on them. Most of the scripts are summarized online. You're supposed to watch the movie she shares with you, but it's not necessary. It didn't take that much time at all. If you want an easy fine art credit, take this not 100.
She posts all of her lectures on Canvas that you HAVE to watch and take notes on because she never finishes a lecture in class; she covers about 10% of what is going to be on the quizzes/tests in class and the rest you have to go to Canvas. The group quizzes are pretty hard; they are very specific so you HAVE to pay attention to the lectures.
She uses homemade lectures that her cat cries in and the audio goes out and in. She has two proctored test that are worth 50% of the total grade. The major issue is the lack of textbook we are just listening to her thoughts and the test definitely shows it. The only thing weaker than her teaching is her resume I think she is just not prepared.
Professor Hall is fairly confusing when it comes to her guidelines and requests. He exams were not really anything like her lectures. After exam one, I figured out that it is easier to ignore the lectures and just find quizlets from past students to study. There was a group project but trying to manage that online was super confusing.
The exams are nothing like the lectures. Her lectures online are hard to understand and there is too much background noise and she does not speak clear enough.
There are a few quizzes, and two exams, which are easy if you just watch the lectures. The lectures were posted online and were awful to watch, but it helps to watch them in 2x speed. There is one project but it is also easy. I took the class online during the May semester, and it was one of the easiest classes I have ever taken.
Full online course, you are required to buy 5 scripts and read and take a test on them. The test questions are very in depth and reading the script 2 times still won't prepare you. With the quizes, you have discussion post for every film that goes with the script, a discussion paper due at the end of the semester as well. Pick diff class if possibl
I really did not like this class at all she does not give good instructions on assignments and theyre only a few of them. The exams or hard because the lectures dont make any sense. The group project is very confusing and there is hardly any instruction. she did not communicate well. I do not recommends class at all. I did not learn anything.
This is an all online class so she's going to expect you to read the syllabus and know when things are do. She's not going to remind you. There is a discussion and a quiz for every play you read and you usually get a week to read them.
The lectures are so confusing and do not correlate with the exams. Also there is a "paper project" due and the instructions are ridiculously unclear and everyone is confused.
DO NOT TAKE HER CLASSES. She does not respond to email, is a very tough grader, and is not compassionate to students. Lectures do not make any sense and neither do prompts for her papers.
Received a grade lower than others in my class when everyone had the exact same answers. Responded to my email disrespectfully when I kindly asked about why I received the grade I did. Very slow at replying. Doesnt care about students && their understanding of the course. Horrible overall! Select another class! If I could rate her 0 I would
She's very funny and kind in person, but runs a joke of a class and is just overall evil about grades.
Absolutely loved the teacher, she was super nice and always responsive to my questions about assignments. Course material is pretty straight forward and its decent material. I suggest taking it in the summer because its quicker and easier to me.
She is overall fine. Her class was online and very easy for the most part. Definitely an afterthought class. Take notes on her lectures and be sure to watch them and you will pass the exams. If you don't, you will not do wee, but I'd say that it really isn't bad if you are able to do this.
WORST PROFESSOR THAT IVE EVER HAD. Paper project doesnt make sense. She doesnt explain ANYTHING. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!!
Wont respond to emails for weeks, and when she does, it'll be 1-2 words. Rude and stuck up Doing bad on one assignment will drop you an entire letter grade Insane amount of busy work Insane amount of reading assigned, and you must pay from your pocket for each one Forget finding help on the internet, there is nothing. Do yourself a favor, run
A truly foul person. If you're not confident on stage, she seems to double down and harass you instead of encouraging you. So rude in class, but then also has the gall to barely respond to other communications outside of class. She also likes to make a scene during class if anything goes against her will, like walking in late, sneezing fit, etc.
RUN AS FAST AS YOU CAN!!!!! she does not reply to emails in a timely manner, one bad grade will drop your grade by a whole letter, and you cannot search ANYTHING for this class.
Being completely online, it's all video lectures. Listening to her monotonous tone and trying to remember things I absolutely have no care for is already difficult. She sends you a reminder every day before an assignment is due but does NOT EXPLAIN ANYTHING. The paper project is so confusing, with barely any instructions given. Never EVER again.
Professor likes to slack!
Not a good professor, she reuses old lectures from the 2000s with content that is not even on the exams and quizzes. She is defiantly a slacker and somewhat rude over emails. There are very few assignments and if you miss one good luck recovering your grade. Take theatre with a professor who cares.
Do NOT recommend. I had to take this class because another one of mine was dropped and I needed last-minute credit. The quizzes are from the slides but neither are similar to the exams. I asked her how to study for the exams and she basically said I needed to figure that out myself. She is also terrible at emailing back and helping students.
I took this class online for my fine arts credit and I really recommend it. The plays are usually no more than 150 pages and can be read in one day. She is a very easy grader and sends you multiple reminders to make sure you complete everything. Very easy and would recommend it if you're ok with watching movies and reading a decent amount.
Do not take any of her classes online. She is inaccessible for office hours and uses Respondus for quizzes. The group project was a joke and led me to just straight up withdraw from her course.
Class was not fun. Any sort of study guide found or given is pointless, won't pertain to the exams which are 40% of your grade. The feedback was almost non existent, so be prepared to just not learn anything if you don't take time to learn on your own.
rudest, most unprofessional professor ive ever had. assignments are unclear and I was never sure what I was supposed to do. When anyone reached out to ask questions, she always gave harsh answers & didnt clear up anything. it seemed like we were bothering her and she didnt want to help if we reached out. This is the only bad rating ive ever given.
Watch out for the quizzes. Very difficult and not clear. Somewhat easy but if you are not taking it in person, be ready to email her about multiple grades online.
Cheryl Hall's TH100 class is a mixed bag. While some students found her helpful, many struggled with unclear instructions, outdated content, and a lack of support. However, unstuck ai proved to be a useful study tool alongside the textbook. Overall, a challenging course, but manageable with the right resources.
Do not take her. gave me a zero for plagiarism (which i didn't do). didn't round up the final grade or added extra points (that was listed in the syllabus). 0/10 horrible and rude
