Wonderful teacher, and still a friend. Great class.
very good teacher, is very detailed.
GREAT TEACHER EXPLAINES EVERTHING VERY WELL
Great teacher! You will LEARN in this class.
This was the first time the class was offer - Feminist Political Theory. Great class especially for WST majors. Prof. Hall is very knowledgeable. Tough grader on papers.
If you are a close minded slacker, do not take this class. If you have an open mind and you are willing to complete the assigned readings, this class will change the way you think, no matter what political philosophy you subscribe to.Dr.Hall is extremely smart, she uses the socratic method to teach so if like boring lectures do not take the class.
She is a hard teacher, but if you try to read you'll b okay. I barely did the readings. However, she requires you to participate, and if you don't you lose at lot points off your final grade. I had a final grade 83. This was after I lost 5 points for participation and another 1.6 points for turning in a paper late. Man, I could have gotten an A- :(

I'd highly recommend Dr. Hall for any theory course you need. Rather than a couple of huge papers, you do a 200 word reading journal for each class (you can miss a few). Questions for the 3 exams are given in advance. They aren't easy, but with preparation a good grade can be had. She's very helpful, cares about students, and is easy to listen to.
I had her for POT 3003 and 4064 and I would take any class she offers. THE BEST PROFESSOR I HAVE EVER HAD(and im about to graduate)! Teaches in a way that creates interest in the subject and drives the point home so that you barely have to study. That said, her tests are hard, but if you attend class and do the readings, you will do good.
SHE'S A GREAT PROFESSOR! VERY INTELLIGENT AND SHE BREAKS EVERYTHING DOWN. THE TESTS ARE ESSAY AND SHE TAKES ATTENDANCE EVERY CLASS!! THE MATERIAL IS CHALLENGING BUT YOU WILL LEARN A LOT! I WOULD RECOMMEND HER
I had her for POT.3013 & she didn't give the class most of the coursework until after the drop date for the course. She's a very tough grader, she makes the class use Blackboard for stupid reason. She forgets that we have other classes by piling on all this heavy reading. She's a hardcore feminist & will take points off papers if u disagree. BAD !!
I thoroughly enjoyed this teacher. I'm not really into theory but she made it interesting. Reading journals are due every week but they are only about 300 words, so keep up with the reading. No in class exams just two 5-6 page papers. Lectures are interesting and very interactive. She gives writing workshops and she's a fair grader. You will learn.
Dr. Hall is good teacher who cares about the students and the material. She comes off as a stern careless woman but she comes around during the semester. You need to have a lot of time available to read a lot of stuff. As long as you are able to keep up with the reading you will be fine. If you don;t like to go to class then don't take it with her
Read the comment a few down and had to leave my own opinion. I am a conservative male and I got an A. You're probably just a slacker. Dr. Hall is great. I disagree with her but it never affected her grading. In fact she discussed neo-conservative political theorists with me after class once.
This professor has a 25 page syllabus. Her expectations are for a PhD class and you WILL FAIL if you miss one class. She is not lenient at all. Her main foci is on PLAGIARISM. She has no problem embarassing students in front of their colleagues. The work is ALL ESSAYS, which are incomprehensible. I DON'T RECOMMEND TAKING HER CLASS. YOU WON'T PASS.
Very well organized. The syllabus might seem daunting but she sticks to it. You can organize your notes by it and predict you readings ALL semester through it. She explains everything in class and makes things very interactive so it's not too boring. She keeps things intersting. She is def a feminist, however, but not a ****.
I had no interest in political theory before enrolling in Professor Hall's Intro to Political Theory, Classical Political Theory, and Modern Political Thought. They were my favorite courses during my time at USF and wish I had the time to reread indepth all the materials she lectured on. Great courses, excellent professor.
This professor is ridiculous. I have never seen anyone give such a ridiculous load of reading and useless writings. In her three hour classes she will talk about nothing for 2.5 hrs and make you sit there and think, while she stares at you. So weird! Not to mention she fails half her students for what she thinks is plagiarism, no questions asked!
My least favorite teacher of all time. Don't take her 3 hour class, you'll be in there for 3hr10min. 80 pages of reading a week and then writing about it. Grades papers and exams hard. Also, she is just a dumb ass and spits out more bull jive then the authors she makes you read. Only take if you're a liberal, if you aren't, you'll commit suicide.
Those who who have written the libelous statements about Dr. Hall's course could not be more wrong. To call her a dumb ass merely illuminates how pedantic the mind is that espouses such garbage. Dr. Halls' class is probably a challenge for most students, but get over it! You are in college and that is the point!
Unlike other professors in the department, she wants to know about what the text/author says and not your individual opinion. Do the readings, think critically and analyze and you should do fine... She is more than willing to help you refine your thoughts in during office hours. Just be willing to see other perspectives that may challenge your own!
very challenging and precise professor, she will make you do thorough examinations of readings. You will leave her class more informed than most of our public officials - she wants you to UNDERSTAND how and why politics works... Fair grader if you make an effort to READ and do journals. More professors should encourage their students like she does!
Major props to this prof. She has been one of the most influential profs I have ever had. She makes you come to your own conclusions about the readings and then you review them to find out how others interpreted them. She answers questions with questions, but she is awesome! I left the class every time feeling like my brain got a workout-I loved it
cosign all negative remarks. spews bs, thinks she rules the world. can't run a class. just talks. 10 mins late, she hates u. her opinions="fact," urs=irrelevant. rude. random stuff is "plagiarism", and u fail the whole class a few days after u can't withdraw bc she <3s having power. w/e work u did doesn't matter. not as smart as she thinks she is.
Dr. Hall is a good teacher. She's fair and overall it wasn't a bad class. If you read the class isn't hard, you just have to do the work. She's very clear and have a 20+ page syllabus to explain any questions you have. This was my first political theory class and I skipped intro and got through it fine.
wut a harpy! i think she's one of them.... wutdoyacallem... feminists. blech!
If you take her classes, don't take anything else, you won't have enough time to study. That is her philosophy anyhow, and she teaches by it. Expect 200+ pages of weekly reading. You can't skim this stuff, she will expect discussions on the subject matter. No matter what you hear, there WILL be a final.
When i first started the class i thought it was going to be the hardest thing ever but honestly if you do everything she tells you and apply some kind of common sense to the work you'll do good. Journals are a pain but they are easy and they are easy points for you to earn. Quit complaining and just take the class day by day. It'll get better.
Class participation counts, but showing up counts for 70% of that. Grades fairly and the exams are not that hard. She gives you the questions before hand and all the questions are stuff she's gone over in class about the readings, there's nothing unexpected. Do the readings take notes and you'll be fine. Try to keep up with the online journals too.
She scared me in the first day, but dont drop the class she is just trying to weed out the slackers. If you do the writing journals which are easy, and do the 2 essays and 1 test than you can get a B, if you work hard an A. She rewards hard work and is a good teacher
Have taken 2 of her classes, will take a third next sem. Best professor I have had. Keep up with the journals and reading. She is a fair grader and class discussion is vital. She may be a feminist, but for those of you that don't know, feminist means you want to end sexism, **** exploitation, and oppression for men and women alike.
Not really easy or hard and grades pretty stringently, B?s are likely (most of us got them) but a few of the students got A?s, it takes a little more than effort with her, you basically cant take the readings at their face value you have to read a lot into the message to appease her. Challenging but didn?t learn too much.
Dont take this class if you can help it. The final class had less than half the class left. Her syllabus is 30 pages long and she requires a signature to prove that you have read and understand everything, so that you cannot ask her a question already answered in the syllabus. Unreasonable grading and she is very bias.
This class is not exactly easy or fun, but it will be rewarding if you stick it out. Her syllabus is long, but don't let it scare you. The books you will read can be difficult, but Prof. Hall will break them down and provide great background info. Gives you the questions to study before the exam, and goes over them in class. A nice fair teacher
The books you read in this class seem impossible, but prof hall will break them down pretty well. The great thing about her is that she will not waste your time, she gets to the point. The journals are actually easy and help you keep up with the reading. Reading and going to class are the most important thing for getting a B/A
I started out this class not liking it, and by the end I had completely changed. Professor Hall really explains the books well, and her expectations on the tests/paper were realistic. There is a good amount of reading and it may seem hard, but she will explain the necessary parts in her lecture. Def read and go to class if you want a good grade!
The class was fairly interesting. In this class there was 3 exams and online assignments. The exams were mainly essay based ranging from 5-7 pages in length. The online assignments were journals that were around 300 words long and you only needed to about 16 of them.
Made class extremely interesting, material was profound. Great sense of humor, unbelievably knowledgeable. I looked forward to going to class. Provides plenty of feedback on your writing, but know how to argue logically. The syllabus is long because she actually takes the time to explain what she wants; don't look a gift horse in the mouth!
Professor Hall was very knowledgeable and you can tell she cares about political theory. Her class is extremely challenging and she is a tough grader. I would recommend you go to class and take lots of notes! You do A LOT of reading too, so be prepared.
An excellent professor. You must follow all directions verbatim. She refuses to allow her personal beliefs to influence the lectures/analysis. Grades consisted of class participation, a reading journal, and 3 essays (2 in class, 1 take home). Your grade will be reflective of how much effort you put forth in the course. TONS OF READING!!
Hall is a good lecturer, but she is obsessive over her syllabus and plagiarism. She tried to accuse the whole class of cheating for utilizing the internet. This class is a lot of reading and writing. Again, she is a good teacher but her policies are somewhat ridiculous.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! Horrible professor. Assigns a MIDTERM to be due during spring break. Horribly boring. Not interesting at all. Thinks she knows everything. DO NOT TAKE HER 3 HOUR CLASS! You will be in there for every minute and then some. Most hated class! She only care about plagiarism. You will here over and over again how she has a PhD.
If you actually want to learn and challenge your thinking, Dr. Hall's courses are for you. She's a genius (read her book) and really wants you to examine your long-held beliefs. There is a lot of reading but most of it is interesting. Her journals seem like a pain but they're beneficial to your understanding. Class discussion is mandatory but fun.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!! Her grading scale is ridiculous. She thinks because she has a PhD that everyone should do PhD level work. I've always made A's and I failed her class. I wouldn't recommend her to my worst enemies. Just spare yourself the pain, DON'T DO IT!
At first I didn't think I would like her but by the end of the semester she became my most respected professor. She's and she challenges you but she sets you up for success. Her discussions are awesome but she will call you out for saying something stupid. Her class isn't for everyone but I still recommend it highly.
Do not take this class unless you want to spend hours reading every night, and writing 300 word assignments every night. Her class is entirely based on the reading, and the reading is extremely difficult, confusing, and long. She grades the papers very harshly, and every point she takes off a paper is a point off your final percentage for the class
This is literally the worst professor I have ever had. I would not recommend her to the people that I hate. She is a really tough grader when it comes to her essays. Do not take her. She expects everything to be about her. If you're taking other classes, oh well because you're going to have to read so much. Once again, do NOT take this professor.
You must attend class if you expect to do well on the three papers!!! You also must participate. The classes may seem boring at times, but she is very knowledgeable. If you sit down and read the material and actively try, you'll be fine! It's not an easy A though!
good professor. grading consists of three papers, attendance (you get 6 absences unexcused and the document absences that dont affect grade), and in class participation in discussions. You can go to her office hours with questions on material, or your papers, or to see how your doing and she'll help. Not an easy A but doable if you make an effort
My third course with Prof. Hall. It is possible to do well in her courses. The content is usually difficult and the standards are always high. Certainly not for poor, or even average, writers. I learned a lot and developed some very good habits from the courses. They consistently require the most time and effort each semester.
Dr. Hall is not as bad as everyone says she is. If you show up to class, take notes, and really listen to what she says you will be fine. The papers are no joke; she grades them really hard. Make sure you put all of your effort into it, completely answer the question asked, and you will be fine. Go to her office if you need help with papers.
I love Dr. Hall, she makes you work for your grade but she is fair and you can tell she truly cares for her students. If you do the reading, show up, and put in the effort you will be fine, you cannot coast through this class. Strong writing skills are essential. She is a wealth of education take her!
Dr. Hall was a great professor, really cares for the subject and loves to engage the students. HOWEVER she is a phenomenally tough grader when it comes to the paper exams! She expects you to be an award winning author for crying out loud. If you are not a strong writer do not take Dr. Hall! you will not get higher then a B- or C in the class.
Dr. Hall is very knowledgeable and does very well in teaching what she knows. She is very engaging and encourages participation. However, she is a very tough grader and does not tolerate any form of plagiarism (not that I am in favor of it). If you take her course, be prepared to read a lot and know how to write very strong, sound papers.
She is very helpful and has very detailed lectures. All papers have a great deal of feedback on them, and at office hours, she will answer any and all questions that you have for her. She is very much into the subject and makes it very interesting. However, her papers are graded very strictly, and thoroughly analyzing the material is NECESSARY.
Super hard grader, but read the rubric, ask her for all the help you need. She's wonderful at what she does, and she will be there for you. A lot of reading, so make sure you have time.
Her expectations for an intro class is ridiculous. She's a very tough grader on the essays. Be aware of your claims. Semantics are important. Participate in class. Don't bother with office hours. You definitely have to do the readings and actively try to salvage your grade or else you're not going to so well. Last minute BS is not going to go well.
Do not take this class. She is a nice lady who you can tell is very intelligent and definitely knows what she is talking about when it comes to Political Theory but she expects waaaayyy too much out of an introduction class. Her essays are graded harshly. I went to every single class and took detailed notes and managed to only get a B-.
You will have a reading journal due for just about every class. She can be very condescending at times. if you have any questions look at the syllabus first, because she will not answer it if it is on there event though it is almost 30 pages long. Essays are only out of 25, so minor slip ups can drastically drop your grade. Would not recommend her
Great Professor. Her criteria could not be more clear with her syllabus that is over twenty pages long. It outlines everything you need to be successful in the course. Strong writing skills are a plus, but Professor Hall walks you through the analysis for each of the works you'll go over in class. So you must attend class!
Dr. Hall really makes you work for your grade. If you take detailed notes in class (especially on concepts she stressed) and meet all her criteria exactly you can get an A. She is incredibly intelligent and encourages students to think and reach answers themselves instead of giving them out easily. This class will give you a new way of thinking.
Great professor. She makes you work for your grade, but it's not too hard to get an A if you do the work and follow instructions well. The class discussions are interesting, so it's pretty easy to participate. There is assigned reading that has to be read before each class in order to understand her lectures.
Dr. Hall is amazing. I highly recommend her, especially for environmental political theory. Don't take her class if you don't want to read, think, learn, or write. Take her class if you want to expand your mind and become a better writer/reader/critical thinker. She explains complex ideas very, very clearly and is a great lecturer.
Extraordinarily harsh on grading the assignments. The lectures are generally very informative and useful, however, this doesn't necessarily seem to translate to a decent grade on the papers. Certainly, missing time will hurt you also. She means well but it is a very difficult course.
Outstanding professor. She thoroughly understood the course material and provided some of the most insightful and thought-provoking commentary that Ive encountered in a classroom. Complete the readings, take notes in class, and synthesize that information when writing essays and youll do well in this class.
She really knows how to get students to think. She keeps the class engaged through visuals, notes, interaction, games & jokes. She can be a bit anal at times; however, by the end of the semester you see the reasons for this. The most organized professor I have ever taken. Be ready to engage and put in effort. Definitely one you will remember.
Listen I'm about to finish her class with a B for the semester. I've learned a lot through her, but her personality is god awful to deal with. Extremely anal about pretty much everything that pertains to her class, including office hours etc. Im glad I pushed myself through her landmine of a class, but in the end it really wasn't worth the struggle
She is really well educated and knows a lot about philosophy, but as a teacher hm dont expect her to be understanding or go soft on you. She will teach you as if your life depends on her course. Very tough to handle and argue with her. If your lifelong dream is not philosophy, your life in her class wont be easy at all.
Absolute train wreck of an instructor, Dr. Hall will not give you any leeway when it comes to grades, attendance, or even simple questions. Expect to do 30+ pages of readings a night, no exaggeration. Even as a political science major, papers should not be graded as harshly as she does. Expect to synthesize extremely difficult concepts.
worst professor I ever had who does not let you use your computer for notes homework is 30 pages a night and unfair grading criteria which the majority score low on i am glad i dropped this class and will never recommend her or take her class again good riddance
Here's the thing: She is kinda nice and all, however her compulsive tendencies (which you will notice immediately) just makes the course feel so uncomfortable. Some of the readings are chosen questionably for an Intro class. Some Freshmen in class vocally have been turned off by these idiosyncrasies and may miss out on a major they may have loved.
Way too hard for an introductory level course. Grades too harshly on papers which are worth 75% of your grade. Definitely seems to be setup in the way of students to "weed out" certain ones who won't bend over backwards to pass.
My experience with Dr. Hall was mostly positive. The class is very difficult and requires a lot of effort outside of class. Lots of reading and analysis. She's a tough grader, but she is also open to reviewing papers during office hours and gives great feedback! Very kind , genuine woman who is passionate and knowledgeable about what she teaches.
Wow... I mean, just wow. To sum it up, she interrupts students all the time. Do not attempt to even ask questions, she scolds students who do that. If I had to compare her to anyone else, I would put her right up there with Dolores Umbridge. Awful teacher. You can tell she just wants to indoctrinate students with her liberal ideas. It's sick!
Where to begin? I would say steer clear from Prof Hall, if you can. Shes very condescending and you can just tell shes not a good professor. Almost like she doesnt care about the students at all. Kinda sad, this was one of the hardest classes and not worth all the work. Barely learned anything, except her personal political agenda.
If you pay attention to the lectures and do all the readings you will be fine in this class. If you don't do either of those you will certainly regret it. The grade for this course comes from 3 major papers that require your understanding of the material and its key concepts.
Dr. Hall is passionate about political theory, but the way she lectures isn't helpful. If you ask a question, she will ask another student to answer for you, which does not help most of the time. She does not give proper feedback and comments on papers. If you don't do one reading or come to class even once, that is enough to throw you off track.
She does not allow students to see the class average, median, or quartiles in the grade book. She does this so that students will not complain or compare harsh grades. As a result, She'll give students bad grades on essays without comments or take points off attendance or class contributions even if they speak every class. Do not take this class!
This professor was the worst I had at my time at USF. She was such a hard grader and was a total control freak when it came to everything.
You need to do the readings, not all of them but the majority. You need to have an open mind and make sure what you say is 100% true before you say it (she will call you out and it's embarrassing to watch). It isn't hard to get an A, but you have to put in the effort, and the IN-CLASS essays matter. All essays are done in class.
Very, very, very vindicative. Her ego is nearly as fragile as her immune system.
Dr. Hall makes whatever she teaches very understandable and provides unique perspectives. All of her work is done in class so there is no homework, however it is all writing based on readings you are required to do outside of class. She is not a very tough grader but if you don't read you will not receive a good grade.
Dr. Hall was not only the most opinionated professor, but was also extremely distasteful of you if she could tell you disagreed with her. She imposes her opinions on her students while making them channel things like "their emotions" however, if their opinons conflict with her, you can't have them. Your grade suffers if you disagree with her.
