she is very strange and literally jumps around the room. Beware.
the class is a hard class but the teacher is really good. you will learn a lot. you just need to make sure you go to class and take good notes! she is also very entertaining... there will never be a dull moment in class :o)
She is the best professor I have ever had. She is very entertaining, but makes learning phsyio FUN! As long as you go to class you will do fine.
She is an fantastic professor...I enjoy going attending her class, not only because it is intersting but she makes it amusing. She keeps her students amused....and does a great job teaching the class! I highly reccommend having her as a professor.
One of the best psych professors I've ever had. She is really funny, helpful and just plain nice. I would highly recomend her. I know I plan to take everything I can with her. She is that good!
She is one of the best professors I have ever had. She is very funny and helpful. Make sure to attend class, take good notes, and ask her any questions you might have. She is awesome! I would definetly take any class she is teaching. It is always great to have a professor that knows what she is talking about and has a great sense of humor.
In all fairness, Dr. Kirstein has been the best psychology professor that I have had at USF during my four years here. She knows how to truly engage her students in material that could be otherwise somewhat difficult to digest. For a good grade, though, you need to attend and be attentive. If you do, it will be one hell of a class!
This teacher rocks. She is very entertaning. This is the first class that I actually looked forward to going to each week. As said in the previous review, she gives you this information in a manner that allows you to actually understand and learn it. You'd better go to all classes, take notes, and study. No slacking here. An A+ Professor.
This professor goes on my list of horrible professors at USF and her rank on that is a 2. I am currently a senior and USF should be embarrassed to have her teach at this school. She jumps off topic a lot! Half of the class will be devoted to irrelevant information about nonsense that goes on in her life. Save yourself from stress you don't need.
Ok damage control. Kirstein is a SWEET person. She is HILARIOUS. The class itself is extremely hard. A lot of people don't even show up until test day and they want to complain and then be RUDE to her when they do come to class. She does go off topic sometimes but she only tests what she goes over. She tells you exactly what will be on the exam.
Kirstein is HILARIOUS! Although the subject matter for this class if difficult, she is able to make it incredibly interesting. She also lays out what you will be tested on very clearly and is also always willing to help clear up issues. She can go off topic, but still does a great job of teaching this hard topic. Going to class is essential.
Jumps around in lectures/never on time. Will say one thing move to another then say something wrong and notes make no sense. First exam avg was 62, curved avg up to 78. Class not mandatory but ppnts are confusing with lots of useless info. Before exams tells you what will be on tests then 75% of the test is stuff she said you wouldn't need to know.
Interesting class, but nothing that I expected. If you are expecting this class to be an easy learn about drugs and the behavior of people on those drugs, this is not the class for you. It is more focused on neurotransmitters and pathways. Dr. Kirstein is hilarious but can get off topic.
She often goes on tangents, which can make things confusing. I would read the book, take notes, and then in her lecture would highlight in my notes what she discussed. You definitely need to work extra for your A. 3 exams comprise your grade. Also focus is more on neurotransmitters.
She talks fast, doesn't clarify things, expects you to know all the material, and goes off topic. Exams are difficult. All the notes are from her voice (not from the lecture notes don't print them. The book was useless. Write/type/record everything she says and hope you'll pass. The study guide/exam reviews are useless. I wouldn't recommend her.
The material is challenging to say the least. This prof. is not coherent enough to teach it. I almost felt like she would intentionally try to trip you up on the exams. The way she worded things on the exams was completely foreign to the way she presented info in lectures. I read the book, attended every class, and took thorough notes. Impossible!
Do not take any class with her. She goes on tangents the whole class and her tests are extremely difficult. Listen to what everyone is saying about her, it is all true. Dropped it after 111 people failed the first exam. Class is based off of three tests and a final, impossible to bring up grade. DO NOT TAKE if you want to keep a good GPA.
This material was interested me most out of everything in psych, taking this class made me want to change my major. She talks super fast and you can barely understand anything she says. She tells you what will be on the exam but what she says is never on it. She is a nice person, but I would not recommend taking her class. Hardest tests ever!
Nice lady, horrible teacher. This class is confusing enough add in a teacher who talks too fast = DIFFICULT. She goes off topic 90% of the time and is late for class OFTEN! Things she says is on test isn't. Curves a lot. In my class over half of the class failed 2-3 of our tests. If you WANT to learn do NOT take this class w/ this teacher!!!!
I know she has been hard on students in the past but this semester she has completely changed the way she teaches her classes. I took both Physiology of Behavior and Drugs and Behavior this semester. She makes it easy to get an A if you attend class. Attendance isn't mandatory but you get extra credit. I never bought the book, I didn't need it.
Dr. Kirstein is a very nice lady and she will tell you in the beginning that her tests are very difficult. She does, however, give a review before each one which, if you memorize, you will do fine on the tests. She dropped our lowest test grade and was very willing to work with me when I missed a test. I would definitely take her again.
Ended up having to drop the class because there's no way to get an A. She gets off topic during lectures and the majority of the questions on the exams aren't things we've learned. Class is based entirely off of exams.
I took her over the summer for drugs and beh., came out with a high b. Tests come mostly from ppts., didnt even have the book. Slightly quirky, but thats fine to me.
She's a little kooky but every entertaining. Her tests aren't easy but she holds review sessions that are really helpful and she curves exams. This class does take work because it is not easy. Attend Class! It isn't mandatory but it helps so much. She doesn't use the +- system though.
I warn you not to take this class. I have to retake it and so a lot of other people I know. Professor went way too fast and basically said what was on the slides. Tests were SUPER HARD and were the only grades (3 tests make up our entire grade). She was funny, but this course is not. Do not take this class if you want an easy grade.
Very entertaining professor. There are a total of 4 exams and she has a review session for each, which are EXTREMELY helpful. She also curves the exams which helps a lot. Her Power points are useful, I suggest reading the text because you won't pass the exams from reviewing the power points alone.
I absolutely loved Dr. Kirstein. She's absolutely hilarious and she knows what she's talking about. However, if you're not interested in the subject, you might not do as well. The tests are almost directly from notes and lectures and she has a review session the class before the test that is everything that's exactly on the test. Amazing class!
Very entertaining prof. The tests are pretty tough, but if you study the book and take notes in class, then I don't see how you can't get an A. Drops 1 test and the final is word for word the previous tests. After a test go into her office and review it! Show up to class, even when she's showing documentaries (which are actually very interesting)
Dr. Kirstein is a great professor! She makes the material even more interesting than it already is. I would love to take her again given the opportunity. The material can be a bit challenging, but I've learned that taking the power point notes prior to class and highlighting what she emphasizes helps! Also gives a great review before tests.
If you are interested in the material, you will most likely pass. If you don't listen and take notes, it will be hard. She gives answers that will be on the exam during lectures and in the review before tests. There are only four exams and no other grades. A wonderful lady, though she does go through lectures fast toward end of semester.
Dr. Kirstein is one of my favorite professors at USF. She is absolutely hilarious and captivating. She lectures very quickly, so it may be difficult to take notes, but it doesn't matter because before every exam she literally goes over the entire thing, question-for-question. She sometimes gives extra credit for attendance. It's hard NOT to pass.
If you want an easy A, take this professor. If you want to actually learn the material, find someone else. I took this as an elective and was annoyed as she usually only covered broad concepts and spent the rest of the time telling random stories or jokes. Her lectures were all over the place and were hard to follow. 3 Exams (1 drop) + Final
This professor would have her good days and her bad. On her good days she's hilarious and makes her lectures very enjoyable but unfortunately she lectures so incredibly fast that you hardly can understand what you're learning. If you read the text book, print out power points before class and record her test reviews you'll be fine.
You will need the book for this class and it would help you a lot if you attended her lecture. It's useless to take notes though. She's goes through them so fast its hard to keep up when writing. She does offer extra credit and encourages students to visit her in her office She does try to make the lectures fun. There isn't any study guide..
I took this class as an elective and because I plan to go to Neuro grad school. Her class is boring. She goes so fast, its hard to keep up. Her New Jersey accent doesnt help at all. Easy grader, easy A. If you want to learn, dont take her. Finally, BUY the book, its super interesting and it will help ypu understand the material. 3 exams.
The only grades for the course are the exams. Also the lectures are boring/not attention grabbing, so in other words, prepare to teach yourself(she does post the slides on canvas). There is no homework and no quizzes. No attendance either, but sometimes you get 2 extra points on an exam on days she feels like checking.
She speaks REALLY fast, gets off topic & mumbles. The only grades you have are exams, she drops the lowest score of three. The class has a lot of interesting info but she is a confusing teacher. Definitely need to study & go to review days. Attendance is optional but go to class on documentary/movie days as she often gives extra credit.
I learned a lot from this class but it is not because Dr. Kirstein was a great teacher. This class requires a lot of self-teaching, so be prepared to read the book and look up additional information online. Do NOT take notes by hand. If you type fast, I advise you to take notes on the computer because she talks fast. We watched a lot of movies too.
Extra 2 Points for attendance, random. Speaks fast/mumbles. Record if you can, especially for exams. Use study groups. I didn't use a book, I wish I did. STUDY!
I began reading the book for this class but I found that it was useless. She talks REALLY fast, so make sure you either record or bring a laptop if you type fast. There's a lot of opportunities for extra credit. Make sure you attend class everyday. Overall, I would say she's an okay professor. Not the easiest, not the hardest.
Honestly, one of the worst professors I have ever had. Her slides are vague, and her lectures seem so insubstantial. It's just a matter of how many random fragmented definitions you can fit in your brain and spit out on the exam. She speaks too fast, and goes off on too many tangents. Try recording her lectures, and read the book.
Tips to succeed in Cheryl's classes: 1) Either record the lectures or type what she says 2) Don't read the book. Just understand the pharmacological mechanisms (i.e. GABA antagonism). 3) Pay close attention to the documentaries in class 4) Go to class. She gives out test answers and extra credit points. 5) Go to the reviews.
She was the worst Psychology professor I have taken at USF, she always cancelled class and when she didn't she would go off on tangents about her nonsense. You have to read the book cause her powerpoints are ridiculously vague.
Awful. I have an A but I stopped going to lecture because they do not personally help me. I watched the documentaries on my own as there will be a bunch of fluff questions related to them on the tests. I basically read the entire book, looked over her slides which are really vague and only useful after you have studied. I also used quizlet.
Nice professor and can sometimes be pretty funny. However she goes off into ranks off topic which causes her to speed up her lectures making it too quick to take notes effectively. You definitely have to read the book and should read it before class. Highlighting can be helpful. Her lectures are not mandatory but on rare occasions has extra credit.
I had to retake this course due to not going to the class or really trying. You do have to read the book to fully grasp the material & while attendance isn't mandatory- GO. Also, GO REVIEW YOUR EXAMS W/ HER! Trust me, you will benefit greatly because the final is cumulative & basically the same questions from the 3 exams(she drops the lowest).
Professor Kirstein is always cancelling class. If she isn't cancelling class, then she spends most of the class time giving jokes. Jokes are okay, I laugh sometimes until you realize how the time she spends giving jokes reflects on your exams. We had about 4 exams and a cumulative final. I would def. recommend recording her and reading the book.
MUST ATTEND CLASS. Be ready to take notes she speaks fast. also get the book it is so helpful
I really enjoyed this professor. She's super smart. Keep in mind she is a professional so she doesn't always get that we're just students. Her lectures are fast but as long as you study the chapters that will be on the test you'll be fine. I actually didn't show up a lot and I studied hard and got an A.
I loved this class. If you want an A on the exams, show up to the exam reviews. She will go through the exam and basically gives you every answer. Lowest grade I got was a 98, and she drops your lowest grade. I made sure to take her for another class next semester because of how much I enjoyed her. She makes good jokes too
She talks really fast & half the time it's about nonsense. Her exam reviews are no longer than 20 minutes and half the stuff she says to study aren't on the exams. The only assignments are exams and the lowest gets dropped. EC is given sometimes for those who went to class. Her PowerPoints aren't worth it. Read the text. She likes to cancel a lot.
DO NOT TAKE HER. I REPEAT, DO NOT TAKE HER! YOU WILL BE SORRY IF YOU DO! You can tell she enjoys HER research, but she does not respect her students. She cancels class a LOT & gives VERY MINIMAL communication! Don't expect to know your exam grades either, they have a "new system that doesn't work". Just do yourself a favor & take a different prof.
It is clear that she does not take the class seriously. She stumbles through powerpoint presentations directly from the book, and is easily distracted. She can show up to class 30+ minutes late, if she shows up at all. There were occasions where she was absent without any notice. She was replaced by another professor after missing too many meetings
Very enthusiastic professor - loves her research and is extremely knowledgable. She has 3 in term exams of 50 questions and the lowest is dropped. There's no homework but there are fill-in-the-blank quizzes given in non-mandatory lectures that you have to get 7/10 right to get the extra credit point which is then applied to your exams. Talks fast!!
All around amazing professor. Class was not too difficult as she practically tells you what she is putting on the exam. The lowest exam grade I got was a 98%. Very entertaining, engaging, and funny. Very interesting course.
There were only 3 exams the whole semester. No other grades. She gave us extra credit quizzes each class period, if you got 7/10 correct, you would get 1 point of extra credit added to the next exam. Lowest exam gets dropped. Allows you to go to her office to go over questions you got wrong on exams. Talks fast. Loves her own research. Great prof
Speaks so fast and interrupts herself that you can hardly understand what she is saying. When asked if she could slow down when she speaks she did it for maybe 15 secs and continue how she would talk regularly. There are only exams and pop quizzes that are worth 1pt that is almost as hard as the test. She is hilarious but her class isn' worth it.
Its a 4000 level course so def have to put work in. She records her sessions and hosts reviews before exams (also recorded). Reviews cover the majority of what her exams will test you on. Does talk fast but its not bad just watch her recordings. Her final consisted of 33% of questions from each exam (1-3). Lowest exam (1-3) dropped but not final.
This class is content heavy and specific, so you have to work for your grade. Dr. K only grades off the average of 3 tests, so being prepared is key. You HAVE to read the textbook and attend lectures, even though neither is necessary. Dr. K accessible, caring, and helpful during lectures, you just have to participate. One of my favs at USF.
This was the absolute worst professor I have ever had. shows up late to class, ghosts the students after requiring them to see her to review test material. only exams, the exams also do NOT match the review guides. mumbled during her entire lectures and refuses to speak up when asked. save yourself the stress and GPA and do NOT take this class.
Do not take her class. She mumbles nonsense during her lectures and gets angry when asked to spell big words or speak up. The exam reviews are thrown together lazily and do not match the test. There was no review for the final and she ghosted all of us. I am not a C student she has made learning very hard.
I regret ever taking this class, came in thinking Id learn something and came out the other end learning more from Quizlets made by other students then I did from the professor. Lectures never went into specifics, rather was a sparks note highlight of the textbook. Your grade is determined by 3 tests and a final, and the reviews are too broad
I regret taking this course! People who passed BARELY made it. Class is graded by 3 exams. She shows up late & slurs throughout her lectures. Hates repeating herself and goes too fast through the material that's actually on the exam, though she rarely covers the specifics that we're tested on even in the "review". Don't take her.
The only grades in this class are 3 exams and the final exam. Cheryl's teaching style is extremely confusing and quick-paced. The majority of the time, I left class completely confused on what she had just taught. She drops one of the exams, which is nice, but I still barely passed the class. She's also just straight up not that nice. :(
DON'T take w this professor unless you're prepared to teach yourself EVERYTHING on your own. Lecture PP's are just broad speaking points for the professor & help in no way. She talks very quietly and fast on topics. I always left class frustrated and confused on the topic. Lecture reviews and her "hints" about questions on the exam never matched up
She does go super fast in lectures, but before each test she has a review session with notes posted. Almost 75% of the test will be from that review so I personally though she was awesome. If you take the time to have 1 on 1 meetings with her for any questions you have she tries her best to make sure u understand the topic.
Often late to class (sometimes up to 15-20 minutes), Speeds through lecture without providing good explanation, is incabapable of elaborating when a concept has you confused. Her review guides barely cover what will be on the exam, tests you on what she says she won't. You essentially need the book to pass. Do not take her unless youre a masochist.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!!!! I am a straight-A student, never one to call out someone as a "bad teacher" just because the class is hard. But this professor literally does not know how to teach. She mumbles through her lectures and catches an attitude with students who ask questions. Please do not take this review lightly, consider yourself warned
Material that is taught is which is barely anything is not on the exams.
The class is difficult, however the professor isn't as bad as the reviews. Speeds thru lecture slides. If you take the time to schedule a 1-1 meeting to review the exam she literally tells you the topics missed / ans. 4 tests one dropped, and we got almost 8 points in EC for the first one. It's not an easy class - Need LOTTTS of self study.
Kirstein is educated in her field, but is not a good teacher. All she does is lecture from PowerPoints that are bullet points for her lectures, not notes for the students. Only 4 grades which are all exams, luckily 1 gets dropped and there is EC. So unhelpful, I had a meeting scheduled with her and she never showed, completely unprofessional.
She is so unprofessional, always is late to class, mumbles and speeds through lecture that you can't understand anything. Her powerpoint slides don't ahve any information on them, just bullet points, but she doesn't explain them well either. Her exams are so hard, nothing on the exams were said in class or in the textbook. Really bad class.
I never write reviews, but WOW this is the first and only class that I receive a C from even though I spend hours reading the textbook and taking notes. I met with her after almost failing the first exam, and she made me feel so bad. She'd say things like "how did you miss this" or "this is so easy". There were 3 exams and that's it. DONT TAKE.
Graded on 4 tests, 3 dropped. There is a book but she sometimes goes off so take notes based on the slides. Shes really nice and super accessible if you schedule a meeting to discuss the test and wants to help you improve. If you go to the review sessions, she literally tells you 60-70% of the things to study for the exam.
You can review exams one-on-one and she gives you the answers to study. The final is literally 33% of each of the first 3 exams. Super accessible through email and tries to help you understand the topic. A bit unclear in lectures since she goes so fast through the slides so bullet notes and take more in-depth notes later. Ask Questions!
STAY CLEAR!! 100% sure the reviews with 5 stars were written by her because of the consistent terminology and the fact that the whole class was astonished on how bad this class was ran. Never got a C in a class until this.
If you show up you'll do fine. Attendance isn't mandatory but she will occasionally give extra credit for attending. There are only three grades, all exams, but they're multiple choice, she drops the lowest, and will basically read the exam to you prior to the exam date. It's not an easy class but if you put work in it's not too bad.
We were only graded out of the 3 exams we took and the final. Rambles during lecture and refuses to answer emails regardless of the time of day.
worst professor. Lecture heavy, few exams make up your grade. textbook is the best way to actually learn. Shes qualified to teach but cant. reads off a powerpoint. If you ask for clarification, you leave more confused. Class is a waste of time. Go to class review and study that content. Tests contain info not in lectures or book. innapropriate!
She's the "PowerPoint" prof. Your girl if you're interested in researching animal testing and her experiences may help you, but in a sort of unsavory way. The physiology part of the class is incredibly complex, but we are met with walls of text and hardly any time to write, so you're better off just reading the textbook first then the ppt.
Dr. Kirstein is honestly hilarious and I can't say I had a dull moment in that class BUT make sure you read textbook and actually attend class. There are only 4 exams (lowest grade dropped). You should absolutely attend class to make sure you get the information. Also STUDY STUDY STUDY. If you don't, you will fail the class.
Dr. Kirstein often shows up late to lectures, never can figure out how to work the projection board to put the slides on, mumbles so you can barely understand her, rarely answers emails, and the only things that go in the grade book are four tests. Go to class, though, and get extra credit and ATTEND TEST REVIEWS. Also, read the whole textbook.
She is genuinely the worst professor I have ever had the displeasure of taking at USF. You are graded on ONLY four exams, with one of them being dropped. She hardly teaches during class, so don't count on passing anything unless you read the textbook. AVOID THIS PROFESSOR if you're able to. It's not worth the blow to your mental health.
AVOID THIS PROFESSOR!!!!! She is seriously an awful professor. She is borderline impossible to understand when she lectures for less than half of the class. You're graded by four exams, with one being dropped, but have no hope of passing the exams unless you obsess over reading the complicated textbook.
We are evaluated ONLY on 2 out of 3 exams (1 gets dropped) + Final. She gives extra credit for attendance sometimes. Does reviews before exams where she tells you everything you have to know, as it will be on the test. Going to class is not mandatory, but ensures you succeed. She loses herself constantly in lecture and is hard to reach out to.
