There's a few short essay projects you'll do, but they're super easy. It's pretty confusing the way her syllabus and grading criteria's are laid out, but ask her for help and she'll clarify. Overall, very easy and inspirational class. Responds fast to emails, great (lengthy) feedback on essays, and an inspirational person.

Such a great teacher and very easy to get an A in her class as long as you're in class and paying attention. Took French 1 and 2 and planning on taking intermediate French with her I enjoy coming to her class everytime and makes French easy.

If you are looking to actually learn french, this class is not for you. There are many tests but it is literally exactly the study guide, just in a different font. She is a little old so she's all over the place when explaining things. very easy class. there is oral presentations involved but they are at most 30 seconds. very little homework.

I mean I learned some stuff. The class was sometimes okay to be in. However I really don't think I learned much. Not very effective in helping students actually learn to put sentences together and speak the language. Just wants you to take a bunch of tests you don't retain.

Awesome teacher, love the study guides for tests but confused at first by all the strange rules like Def gen and negitive verb not etre. Finally I realized their just for extra credit and I stopped stressing then one day I just discovered all those rules were starting to make sense. Great class!

Her teaching style is not practical. She has a very specific way she likes to retain information and thinks that's how all students learn. So the material isn't legitimately absorbed and comprehended by the students. Wouldn't take again

You get an extra day for tests, she takes points off but that's ok if your unsure of what your doing. I like how she repeats things like a new verb for one test then the same verb with NOT for next test until it sinks in. Lots of short tests but easier to learn that way. Very helpful and nice.

Great professor, easy class if you just do what's required, I made things harder for myself by doing all the extra credits. She is very nice and helpful, answers all your questions and makes sure you get it. Looking forward to her Intermediate class, thinking about French minor

If you're trying to become fluent, then this class isn't for you. She doesn't explain concepts very well and there's a lot of memorization but not enough practice. Overall, easy A but wouldn't recommend her.

She has an odd way to teach and if you are not open then its going to be challenging. She is quirky, often confusing and all over the place. She is nice and has lots of extra credit. There is little conversational and practical french here, not very helpful if you want to speak it. U must be good at memorization though! Lite homework and easy A!

Madame Porter has excelled as a teacher this semester. Had her for previous one and she added more oral dialogue to this class and had us use the French we acquired. Loved it!!! She is very quirky, very fair, and really wants her students to know the language well. Extra credit helps to learn more and excel in her class. Definitely take her!!!

If you are interested in any other language, take that one instead. Her syllabus is so confusing, and uses a ton of handouts. There are weekly homework and quizzes, plus tests and oral exams. You don't speak too much French, but she is starting to include that more. Strictest absence policy, won't take Dr notes. She's very nice, but uptight.

IF YOU SKIP, YOU WILL NOT DO AS WELL!!! Pay attention in class, participate without being forced, and study the STUDY GUIDE and it is an easy A. Madame Porter is an awesome professor and she knows the material well. She can get a bit off topic at times but its usually always related to some aspect of class. Again, PAY ATTENTION and youll be fine.

I think Madame Porter is great, she knows the language very well and is always willing to help you further if you have a question with something. As long as you practice saying/writing your dialogue you well have no problem passing her class. She goes over the homework in class before it is due and gives a help sheet on canvas incase you need it.
