Very helpful and knowledgable. You can tell she loves what she does. Highly recommendable.
Very knowledgable. very helpful. very friendly. very hard but i think the class itself is very hard. ive looked and have found no geology or easc class instructor is easy. resnick plays no games and is interested in the success of the student.
She is a really good teacher and if you study you can get an A like I did.
Very knowledgeable and obviously loves her job. As long as you pay attention and look over the notes you should be fine. Very friendly and helpful.
Very smart, alot of her knowlege comes from experience. One of the best classes i have taken so far.
One of the best teachers I have had. Her passion for teaching and rx is an inspiration. Easc 116 was awesome and her daily commercial for Easc 250 (southwest trip) was very convincing. Go see Grand Canyon with her and learn it in person!!
Teacher that really cares and is passionate about her material!
Went on the southwest trip and had a blast. Took a lot of memories away from it but also I learned a lot. Cheryl made the geology part of the class fun. "Mother Hen" was great!
Wonderful teacher. She is nice and considerate. She loves what she teaches and will take the time to help you understand something. I reccommend her for the lab.
Didn't care for teaching style too much, seemed to be too interested in the detail of small things instead of the big picture. The tests were a witch, and they covered so much material that it was ridiculously hard.
She's horrible. All she talks about is rocks and the Grand Canyon.
Nice & knows her earth science stuff. She's more than happy to explain things if you dont understand them.
Probably my favorite teacher overall from ICC. Very friendly and taught me a lot.
One of my favorite teachers. Even thought it's a lot of material, she explained it very well. I think a lot os students do not do well in this class is just because they don't study and Resnick always gave study guides and study hints!
SHE WAS A HARD TEACHER IF YOU TAKE HER YOU NEED TO ALWAYS PLAN A HEAD OF TIME HER STUDY SHEETS HAVE ALOT ON THEM BUT OVER ALL OK TEACHER. ON THE OTHER HAND DON;T TAKE HER UNLESS YOUR REALLY!! REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY READY!
Dont take her for a minimester and think that just because its a minimester she is not going to cover all the material that she would normally cover in a 16 week semester because she will. I just finished up a minimester with her and we took 4 lecture exams, quizzes everyday in lab, and after 3-4 labs then you take lab exams!!!
I think the class was hard, but she is a very good teacher. She really likes her job and it shows. She is one of the best teachers I've had at ICC.
She's such a good teacher-she's respectful to students, makes the class fun--and even interesting, and teaches in a way to make the class easy. Teachers who use Blackboard are the best, others need to get with the times. I would defintely take her again, one of the best teachers I've had at ICC.
Super fun class. Explains details and works with every student. Makes the class exciting to the point where you are actually using the material outside of class. Her use of blackboard is supurb and I wish all teachers had the same style of teaching as her.
Hard class, notes were easy. A class where a lot of time and effort is involved. Must be ready for everything with this class.
I don't know how she is now, but when I had her in 2000 she was one of the hardest prof's at ICC. Very cut & dry, but a nice person I think.
I go to BU, but I took this class as a minimester. GREAT TEACHER! And a great lady. She's very straightforward and knows her material well. I found her many references to the Grand Canyon endearing rather than annoying. I learned a LOT!
Knows a lot! I like the fact taht she was a tour guide at the Grand Canyon, she first hand experience. Very interesting.

Very hot! Had her classes around the famous 2000 election. She found out I was not going to vote. She told the class how inhumane I was to stay home and not vote. Cheryl needs to teach, which she does well, stay hot looking, and quit critizing students for their decisions. She really went overboard. I will remember ICC when they want money.
nice person. hard class. waaaay too much information to know
she is very good at teaching and will help students in need.
This class is very hard! I would not recommend it to anyone. If I had to do it over again I would rather take chemistry. Besides she is not understanding to student's needs.
Very tough class but great teacher. Very understand, clear and helpful.
Very hard class. She had so much packed into a small amount of time. I took it over the summer. Only saw your test in class and never did go over the questions that you missed to question the answers. That would have helped for the final so you knew what was the correct answer or not.
I loved this teacher and her class. Her teaching style and use of powerpoints was very helpful for me..she has images and examples for nearly everything we covered. In fact, I loved the class so much that geology is now my major. It is NOT an easy class and very time consuming (3 local field trips are mandatory)..but I would recommend taking it.
By midterms, we only had 1 test and 2 papers. Her tests are over too much material and too weighted. She lost 1 of my papers and gave me a 0. She is NERDY: She tells terrible jokes and talks about the "stories" rocks "tell". She yells at the class if a few people are late and holds the class over at the end, yelling if people put their books away.
I will admit that she is a DECENT teacher, but she packs sooo much information for different sources(powerpoint, books, online) into her class that it makes it hard. THIS IS A 111 CLASS! NOT A CLASS FOR MAJORS! Most people in this class had to drop it, and the rest of us struggled to keep our C's and D's. I tried, but she only cares about HERSELF!!
This is not a blow off class. It is very time consuming. You have to try to relate her notes to the text. She has a lot of visual aids that help.
There are many negatives written about this prof., but most of the raters probably don't realize they're out of high school now. Cheryl Resnick is tough, understanding (if you do what's expected of you), extremely helpful, and interesting to listen to. Gotta work for an A...get used to it.
Very nice lady and really passionate about what she does. Notes are given out as a power point that you can get from the bookstore. HOWEVER.. One of the hardest classes I have ever taken. Her tests tend to cover a LOT of information that you won't exactly know where on earth she got it. Because it certainly wasn't from what she taught in class.
With regards to the last comment, everything that she puts in her exams and quizzes comes straight from lecture notes or book. Take complete notes and actually study them and you'll have no problems. Interesting class but not a blowoff class.
Great teacher. Everything is very structured and easy to follow. If you know the notes and the study guide questions you should get an A. The material is fairly interesting... atleast enough to keep you awake.
She is a really good teacher. Not the easiest but If you just study your notes and do the homework you will do well. You can tell she is really enthusiastic about what she teaches...which can be good and bad.
Mrs. Resnick treats students as if they are in middle school..not adults. If you dont pay attention she will yell at you. Attendance is manditory If you do not email her before the class that you miss than you wont get the homework. She doesnt grade things in the time frame that she says she will. I had one quiz that never got graded at all.
Lectures were interesting, but the tests were more difficult then she prepared us for and the final was unbearable! I failed the class because of the final and got a C the 2nd around. Both times I had a B going into the final. All I have to say is you better know your rocks!
Although hard as can be, I found her to be a great teacher. She isn't easy; but she will help you if she can.
Not as easy as i had hoped it would be but thats college for ya. Resnick was really nice and really cared about helping you. You feel like your in grade school sometimes but it helps you understand concepts better it also makes sure you stay awake. Had her for lab also it sucked but I think its more of the lab then the teacher.
not nice. takes it way to seriously. assigns too much work and then complains about how she doesnt have time to grade it. ridiculous. if you get her drop. i was lucky to get a B and i busted my butt.
not very good
She is a fantastic teacher!!! Buy her powerpoint notes at the book store, they should help a great deal! The course is challenging, but that's life. She also has extra credit opportunities on all of her tests which is awesome!!!
Extremely helpful! Sometimes her lectures can feel drawn out, especially around lunch time. She definatly loves what she does and if you do the study guides and show up for class you'll do well.
She is an awsome teacher. I suggest buying the packet she offers, it has every single powerpoint she uses, and gives you the opportunity to listen to what she says instead of writing down the powerpoint notes. Tests are a little difficult, but if you study you will do fine. She was always there to answer questions, and was interested in my life too
Mrs. Resnick does her job very well and does not tolerate nonsense. Be sure to fill out the study guides that is assigned with each unit and you will do ok on the tests.
Dont take this class. You will fail. This class is impossible to pass because she does nothing. If you ask a question she gets mad and tells you you should already know it. Whats the point of being a teacher if all you do is work your students to death and they dont retain anything? I learned absolutely nothing.
Very helpful proffessor, hard but efficient.i enjoyed this teacher and would take her agian
Makes an easy subject as hard as she can. First night of lab I was going my lab with my group and she told me I need to stop copying their answers and that I wasn't doing anything..when I clearly was. Called me out in front of everyone. I think she was trying to prove her authority...but sorry I didn't pay to be treated like that. Don't take her.
She acts like you are stupid when you ask a question and she likes making it as hard as possible. DONT TAKE HER
hard professor, dont take this class. Tests aren't even based off notes and labs are even made hard with her.
She was pretty good at explaining the things you learn, but it didnt help on tests. Tests are very hard and you must study for them using the study guides AND the book even though she doesnt use the book in class. She does tend to talk to her students like they are in junior high, but if you pay attention and study your butt off you should be fine.
Great Teacher! She knows her stuff and you can tell! She is strict but effective! Buy her Slides or print them off blackboard they are extremely helpful! See her during her office hours if you have any problems! She teaches to every way of learning... You can go wrong!
She is really devoted to her love of Geology and i really enjoyed her class! I noticed that the ONLY people who hated her were the REALLY stupid people. She was a great teacher in Earth science 111. I would advise taking her class if you are an intelligent person.
This class is def not for anyone who is not prepared to use their brain. I took this class as a summer coarse and it was def a lot to handle. She is a great teacher with a passion for Geology and she def knows her stuff. She will help you in every way she can but this class is def hard and I am not stupid.
TAKE HER!!!! if you have to take EASC 116 take her for both lecture and lab. she fun and makes the lessons clear. as long as you don't miss any class you'll do fine in the class.
She knows her stuff, but she takes up most of lab explaining what to do, at the end of her long explanation, she disapears. So, you have little time to work on lab and god forbid you have any questions for her, because she usually cannot be found! Oh, she also lost about half of our lab's prelab for a week and did not give us credit for it.
Awesome! She defiantly has a passion for earth science and it shows. She can make anything interesting, even rocks and minerals. Tests aren't too bad if you are willing to study. She gives out study guides that are a huge help if you do them.
SHE MAKES LAB HARD FOR NO REASON. SHE LEAVES AND IS NOT VERY HELPFUL.
An great course, but you couldn't find a worse teacher. Rude, snippy, unhelpful, and sometimes downright mean, She served as a confusing lecture teacher who didn't have time for a student's questions and a lab instructor who wasn't around for most of the class. I love earth science but I struggled to pass this class. Do your best to avoid her.
Prof Resnick, man I tell you what she was a little uppity, always late to class, but dont let a student be late she deducts points. She refused to review because she had already lectured on subjects. I mean we are not all geology majors. Also how do you not review for a comprehensive final that had no study guide? Grading took forever as well.
This course was very difficult for me. I needed this course for a Gen. Ed. requirement. I had not interest in it. I ended up dropping it. However, Professor Resnick is awesome. She is very helpful and kind. She is just a good person in general. She is willing to help and talk over things at any given time. I recommend her to everyone.
Professor Resnick LOVES sharing her knowledge of earth science. She's not just there to get paid, but she's there to teach, so she expects respect, as she should. In lab, if you're confused, just ask her! In lecture, as long as you don't miss a day, you'll know everything that goes on. STUDY STUDY STUDY. You won't pass if you don't.
She is a very knowledgeable person. She is extremely passionate about the subject matter. This is a difficult course, if you don't pay attention. The test are difficult. She is a very relaxed person, if you have ANY questions. Ask, she will defiantly answer them. Just pay attention, and get the Power Point packet!
BUY THE POWERPOINT NOTES & READ THE CHAPTERS. It will help immensely. Listen up on the 1st day, she's straightforward & gives good advice for the course. Made me way more into the class than I expected to be. Its a lot to know but if you read the chapters & pay attention in class you're good. Participate in class, don't be afraid to ask Q's!
I would not recommend her to anyone! She was not helpful at all. I received a C in her class, when some of my friends got A's simply because they had different lecture professors. She makes the material harder than it needs to be, and wants to focus on every little thing rather than the big picture. After all we are all not geology majors...
Great teacher but very tough and has high expecation. The material was interesting and valuable but I would not recommend taking this class as a semester course b/c it is VERY fast paced! Use note cards and set aside a lot of time to study for quizzes and exams! Also, don’t expect to get out of class early.
Too many whiners on this site! Welcome to college, children! Cheryl is thorough, passionate, and helpful. She is fair. She is not easy. You are given all the tools to be successful but you must put in the time. You will know and understand the subject if you do. Quit whining and do the work!
Awesome teacher, very fun class
Resnick knows what she's talking about and can sometimes teach as if she's talking to someone else that knows a lot about the subject but quickly realizes it and gets back on track. She's very passionate about geology and that always made me more excited about geology. Her tests are very hard so be prepared.
She definitely knows what she's talking about and is very educated in Earth Science. You can tell she has a passion for what she does. However, she assigns WAY too much homework and expects you to love it too even if you are just taking it for a gen ed class. The labs were long and difficult. My lab grade was so bad I ended with a C in the class.
This class just needs a lot of attention and work. There are a lot of online assignments that can easily be forgotten if you aren't on top of it. Her test are easy if you study well. Her study guides provide the majority of the material necessary for the tests. She offers many extra credit opportunities and is very willing to help her students.
A lot of homework, and she doesn't always tell you about it.
Had Mrs. Resnick and she wasn't bad, but Mr. Stermer did come sub for her a few days and I wish I would have taken it with him instead. She assigns a lot of homework, mostly online, so be sure to check blackboard or you might miss something. To see your tests and what you got wrong you have to meet with her outside of class which can be a hassle.
Comes to class ready to teach and explains in simple terms to help understand new or difficult concepts. Need to be able to study well to get good grades, because there is a lot of material to know. Not too many quizzes or exams, but a lot of homework. Approachable for any questions. Overall, would recommend taking another class from her.
Took this class as a minimester and overall really enjoyed Prof. Resnick. She seemed to legitimately care about her students and kept the class interesting. Obviously since the class was a minimester the coursework was pretty heavy but she also skipped over parts of the class that were unimportant. She also offers extra credit on every lecture exam
Although Cheryl was an outstanding teacher, she seems to be entirely unaware that not every student is a prospective geologist. Along with that, she might as well change the class name to ROCKS. You spend most of your time learning about rocks and identifying them rather than the processes behind their creation.
This teacher was not worth my money, she rarely brought up any important info for homework or tests, basically had her helper do all the work which is not how a teacher should run a class, and her study guides purposefully leave out important information because she expects you to write down every single little thing, we aren't geology majors.
She's pretty unorganized, so that was a little frustrating, but overall is was a fine class. She's super nice, enthusiastic, and really knowledgable. I definitely had to work to maintain a good grade!! I also took this class as a hybrid, so attendance was important!!
Shes a great person with a great personality!i love her class and I love how she teaches .ive learned a lot and really love her so I wold really recommend her to anyone who loves to be at school
Had Resnick for lab but she still lectured some of the time. She was helpful but also unorganized. Had assignments due each week before class and quizzes in class which kinda sucked. Test weren't hard as long as you showed up for labs.
The course was too fast paced and I did not enjoy most of the assignments mostly because I could not understand them! If you want to learn every detail of 100 rocks them you will enjoy this class. I typically get very good grades and this class dropped me down. Without my class I would not have passed at all.
I am in her on-line summer course right now and this class is like a full time job. All of her assignments are due at 10 pm. She assigns so many assignments that are due the same day a test is. If you have a full-time summer job don't take this class because you won't have time to do it. She is somewhat unorganized and isn't very considerate at all
She acts like alot of her students are geology majors when actually we just need this class for credit and most don't even really care about this stuff. She makes all of the assignments so hard and they are SO LENGHTY. a lab assignment will take me at least 2-3 hours depending on how long the lab is. her tests are insanely difficult as well.
Cheryl is a nice person, but her online class is very unorganized. There will be at least 10 assignments every week, and the quizzes and tests are very hard.
This class is advertised as being for students who are not science majors. This couldnt be further from the truth. EASC 111 is highly demanding. I easily would spend 15-20 hours a week on this class. I would study for hours to receive a D on a test. The teacher assigns so much homework most of it is left ungraded. I do not recommend this class.
Resnick is nice and cares about her students. HOWEVER, easc 111 is SO HARD. I spent SO much time on this class. I feel bad leaving her a "meh" rating because she is really nice and puts in a lot of effort for her students, but I just think this class is way too hard because it is described to be for beginners. Get ready to spend MANY hours a day.
For the online lecture, there was a lot of homework, however, it didn't cost that many points if you had to skip a few assignments. In the lab, she was very helpful and sweet. Fantastic professor.
Between the mountain of homework, lack luster actual teaching, and the fact 6 weeks in she hasn't put in ANY grades I really cannot recommend her class
She is definitely a homework heavy professor. There are many assignments a week, but they are short and easy for the most part. Her tests are not too difficult if you take time to study. If you are interested in science, I recommend her class!
Professor Resnick is very sweet and super nice but lacked her interest in teaching the class. Everything that was not automatically graded still has not been graded and the grades for the end of the semester are due tomorrow. She was not available to contact in a timely manner either and fell very far behind.
Cheryl is a good person I know that. She is definitly passionaate about geology. On the other hand this class has been the hardest class to follow. Homework will be due but you have to go through a savenger hunt to find the online homework. Instead of the homework being posted to canvas and being acsessable right through the dashboard menu.
This class was very hard for me. A ton of work. Sometimes stuff online is not put on canvas so its hard to find the homework. That resulted in me getting lots of 0s because she takes forever to grade work so I did not realize for awhile. Fine professor but too hard. Some people dont care about science and just need the credit and she doesnt get it
She is a very sweet and nice person, however this class is EXTREMELY homework heavy. Much of the hw is busy work, hard to find, or isn't graded for a long time. She acts like we all are majoring in geology. You will have a hard time if you miss any lectures as she doesnt post the notes. The powerpoints she does post will have blanks spaces.
She doesn't understand that we aren't all majoring in the study of rocks...
I am a Social Work major, this class was a Gen-Ed for me and I had been told by my advisor that EASC 111 was the easiest option. Cheryl is an extremely nice woman, however she acted the entire semester as if we were all EASC majors. She takes weeks, sometimes months (to grade) and she assigns 4-8 assignments every week. I would not retake.
Professor Resnick tons of experience and is very interesting to listen to. But this class has a LOT of homework and Prof gets very behind on grading. If you try, it isn't a hard class.
EASC111 is a challenging course, but Cheryl is a passionate professor. Use Unstuck study alongside the textbook to stay on top of the heavy workload. The class is rewarding if you're willing to put in the effort.
As others have stated, a very nice person. However, she seems to think that everybody taking the class really wants to be involved in geology. We usually have about 5-8 assignments a week counting lab, and the lectures were very boring when we weren't doing things outside of taking notes. We also had 3 exams the final week of school.
Takes the entire semester to put grades in. You have 8+ assignments every week and won't know your final grade until after finals.
She is a talker! Always has great stories. There is a lot of homework and online quizzes. I have missed a few days and I still have a decent grade in the class. She does a token thing if you miss an assignment or class or whatever. Recommend reading the text book and STUDYING for the exams they are challenging
Professor Resnick is one of the best professors I've had. Her lectures are engaging and informative, homework is manageable, but her exams are challenging. She does posts grades late more towards the end of the semester, but all and all I would gladly take another course with her.
