Van Buskirk is a nice teacher, that is one thing you can't take away from her. She wants us to pass. She even gave us some extracredit. To pass her tests do ALL the problems she suggests. Buy the solution manual! You need the book for the practice problems. She differs from other teachers because is very interactive. A solid teacher overall

Best teacher I have ever had. I recommend her. I am horrible at bio and it does not interest me at all, but I'm getting an A in the class. She makes passing easy and she provides a lot of extra credit. Just make sure that you take the quizzes.

she had a good setup for this class with a grade system set up by online discussion points, in class assignments, and exams. she was a generous grader of exams, totally made us feel like she wanted us there, and was a very sweet lady. she tag teamed with odom to teach half the semester. learned a lot about too!

She is a very nice and cool professor!. Since it was her first semester teaching she was speeding through the lectures but the overall class was really easy. Just do the study guides take the 2 min quizzes and participate and an A is guaranteed!

Dr.V is awesome. She sings songs, uses powerpoints, gives tons of extra credit, is super nice, and amazingly adorable.

She is so fun and interesting. Gives a lot of extra credit and wants her students to do well. Class attendance is important but not necessary. Did not use the textbook once since all testable material is in lecture. She finds creative ways to help students learn. She is easy to approach, talk to and ask questions. I would take her again!

TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. She is one of the best instructors I've taken thus far. She is extremely clear when explaining the material, makes everything super interesting by playing guitar and making awesome powerpoints, and gives extra credit opportunities. There are 6 short quizzes and 4-5 exams but if you study you'll do fine.

Van Buskirk is AMAZING! I absolutely hate science but she made it fun and entertaining. Always shows funny videos. Makes class very easy. Lectures were always great. Extra credit is available. She does not curve but her tests and quizzes are incredibly easy. She is a very outgoing person! TAKE HER!! Don't need to read book, just show up to lectures

Such a fun professor! She uploads the powerpoint slides, she's really helpful when you're having trouble understanding something, and (in her lectures)she really puts emphasis on things that'll be on the exams so they aren't really difficult. I would definitely recommend her ^-^

Pretty easy class. She mostly tests us on the things she discusses in class. In her lectures she shows us powerpoints and at the end of the class she asks us questions about each lecture. Her tests are pretty easy and for the quizzes, she uploads a video for us to watch before we start the quiz. She's a helpful teacher and i learned a lot in class.

The best teacher at CSUN! She makes the class so fun and interesting. Keep in mind that it is biology and some topics are kinda boring but she is an awesome teacher and I definitely recommend her.

She's great! Would definitely recommend. She makes it interesting with songs. And when she lectures she doesn't sound monotone like most teachers. She makes sure you understand the material before moving on. There was no textbook to buy because she is writing her own. Her exams are easy just read the notes and attend lectures, you'll get an A.

She is awesome! In a class of over 200 students I have never spoken to her face to face and she is still my favorite professor! The textbook is free and she plays guitar during lecture. I usually dislike science but she really makes it enjoyable. If you are questioning taking her class, do it!!!

She keeps lectures interesting by showing occasional clips and even brings her guitar to sing to classes before exams. Her grading criteria is fair and as long as you read and attend the lectures, this should be an easy class for you. She also uses an app called tophat which allows her to see how much of the information students are learning.

This is a great class with an amazing professor! She is so nice and interested in sharing all her knowledge about biology. She is funny, sweet, but can sometimes get pissy if the class is talking. Its no wonder because its a giant lecture hall. The tests are kinda hard if you don't study. Go to class, read the short texts and study! SHES BEST

Professor Van Buskirk is super nice and funny. She sometimes brings her guitar to class and plays us songs related to what we are going over in class. The tests are kind of hard especially if you don't study or read the textbook (textbook is free). But overall, she is very helpful and I would recommend her

I love professor van buskirk!! I was blessed for her to be teaching genetics! The course is very difficult, tests are extremely hard, but if you study, you will be fine. Attendance is a must to pass this class. There are a lot of uploads and quizzes in this class which is great to keep you studying. OH! And take her cycling classes at SRC! :-D

she is so funny and cool. you will love her. her lectures are boring sometimes becuase don't forget it is biology . there is only 3 testes and a final, so if youusually don't do good on your testes, don't take her. her testes are sooooooooo hard and you really need to know the concept to get the right answer.

Best class I've taken so far! One of my favorite professors. Her lectures are easy to understand and explains everything very well. The songs that she sings in class are actually helpful and catchy. The tests are somewhat difficult & you have to study for it. Read the book, it's free & easy to understand. Would definitely take her class again!

Genetics is one of the easiest courses a bio major has to take, I noticed whoever rated her down did not use the textbook. This class is extremely easy if you do the assigned reading and questions. If you are confused on something she is very helpful during office hours. Anyways, easy A, and she's hot ;D

Took her for genetics, it as a very easy class. She would give lots of extra credit on tests if test questions were confusing or unfair. Entertaining lecture, and she drops the homework grade if your test average is higher, which was awesome.

Dr. Van Buskirk was a great professor and she made being in huge lecture hall fun and intimate. the material was always easy and enjoyable with her she was very energetic. She would also occasionally bring in her guitar and sing songs about biology. i recommend her!

Dr. V is a really fun teacher. Her exams aren't easy and you need to study to do well. However, her lectures are interesting and you must read before going to class to understand what she is lecturing on. The book is a free e-book written by her. 3 exams (40points each), Top Hat Clicker questions (30points) &Final (50points). Class out of 200points

Cheryl is an awesome and very caring professor. Bio 447 is a class where everyone learns together and you apply that knowledge in your research projects and even after that. After completing this class I've been way more confident in my scientific ability and Cheryl is the one to thank for that! TAKE HER!

Best professor for any science class. Super engaging and fun, she made bio easy and understandable. One of the best classes I've taken at CSUN, which is surprising because it's a science class. She goes the extra mile for all of her students. Please take it you will not be disappointed.

Dr. Van Buskirk is a wonderful professor. I knew little about genetics prior to this class. She gives a ton of practice problems that are similar to the quizzes. When you don't understand something you can email her and she will go over the problem in class for everyone. 8 quizzes (drops 1), midterm, and final.

To be honest, I crashed this class a couple of times to be with a friend. I will say, I learned more in those few classes than I have in any other. She is very engaging and is not afraid to make a fool out of herself. She's very passionate and clearly care about her students success. If I didn't already take bio, I would definitely take it with her

Take any class you can with her! I have learned more with her than any other Bio class. She makes it easy, understandable, and fun. She is very caring and wants all to succeed. She is very approachable and answers all my questions. Absolutely enjoyed her class. I wish all professors were as clear, approachable, and organized as her.

She is a fun teacher, she tries not to make her lectures boring, but they are informative. You read the book through this online website you have to buy. And for ea. ch. there are small quiz questions to answer. During lecture, she will ask some questions that are worth points. Difficulty of 4 tests total is the same as any other test.

It's made very clear throughout the semester that this professor is passionate about her job, and if you ever need help, she explains something until you completely understand it. Easily accessible through office hours. If you do bad in this class it's honestly your own fault.

I've always had trouble with science, especially biology. I was sure that I was going to struggle taking Bio100 but Pro. Van Buskirk was one of the best professors I've had thus far. She LOVES to sing before exams. She sure knows how to keep the spirit alive in class. Class is based off chapter readings and quizzes at the end and 4 exams.

If biology is not your favorite, take her! She is very kind and passionate about biology. In my opinion it's an easy class. Just read her textbook and pay attention during her lectures. It's important to go to class to receive in class question points which are not difficult. By far this was one of my favorite classes.

Bio100 with Professor Van Buskirk was the best decision I made. I am not a fan of biology at all but as long as you show up and read the textbook, you'll be fine. She has such an amazing personality and cares a lot about her students. There is a midterm and a final that go along with hw and in class questions. This was definitely a great class!!

Professor is very sweet. Will help you if you appraoch you. Very patient. The only problem is that she is really quick. She will teach very fast and not go over the really important details that are needed to understand genetics. Other than that she is a good professor. Really cares about her students.

She's an amazing teacher. Her lectures are great but sometimes I feel like it wouldn't match with the tests. She teaches fast so be ready and her tests are somewhat hard but if you study you should be good but overall great teacher.

If you are looking for an easy pass to Bio here it is. She's amazing! Easy homework and easy tests, no chance you wouldn't pass her class. Always in a good mood, friendly and basically gives you answers to test questions. Professor tries to accommodate you and is very supporting.

Prof. Van Buskirk is such a gem! Her lectures are very interesting and interactive, as she asks participation questions during class to make sure everyone is on the same page. She has an online textbook (this class used the educational tool app TopHat) and sends out reminders on assignments and exam dates. She also so kind, funny, and creative!

EASY A! Homeworks are pretty straightforward and her lectures are so fun that you would not even notice that it's almost time to leave. Biology is easy and she makes it easier, it's amazing! When we shifted online, she still kept in touch with us and would remind us the deadlines and would give us a chance to do missing works! BEST PROFESSOR!

This class was very EASY! The professor was fantastic and she would remind her students the deadline for homework's or exams. The professor gives out weekly hw's and two exams, and there's no final for this class. As long as you do the work, you should pass the class. Take this class if possible because I learned so much from this professor! :)

She is so sweet and the class is pretty easy because she sets up the class so well. The tests were a bit hard, but she is so sweet, so it makes up for it.

As someone who isn't the best at biology, she makes the lectures fun and really easy to follow. Her asynchronous class does not require a lot of effort, and she grades very fairly. Her set up is very clear and the even includes how long each assignment should take!

Best Biology Professor I've had. Professor Van Buskirk makes her lectures very engaging and interactive. Her videos and songs are helpful and funny. Homework assignments are due every week and 3 extra credit assignments. One midterm (30 questions) and a final (40 questions). Definitely recommend.

Professor Buskirk is very fun, easily accessible, and sweet. She does her best to make lecture fun. There's a chapter quiz every lecture and very little extra credit. Doesn't give study guides or practice exams so take lots of notes and study.

Dr.v doesnt have to be up there singing being that passionate about Biology but she does it anyways to help you learn. you guys complain when professors dont care AND complain when they care so much they get up there and sing to help you remember the cell cycle. Unbelievable. TAKE DR V!

Prof Van Buskirk was one of the best professors I've had so far. Her lectures are very engaging and you end up remembering a lot of the info. Textbook was online and class was reading heavy. Class was hybrid so attendance was required, and we took a geolocked quiz every class so attendance was required, but class was only 50 mins once a week.

One of the most passionate professors I've had. Her lectures are very engaging, she sometimes sings songs related to concepts and she is very easy to talk to and ask for help related to content. Very accommodating to students who go to her office hours as well. Tests were hard when I took her, but heard she changed it to be easier now.

The content can be a lot if you don't put in the effort. Read the chapter beforehand, take notes, during lecture add to your notes, HW on time, and track your mistakes. The book is so easy to follow and her lectures are simple. She is enthusiastic and cares A LOT! If you can get 100% in HW/participation/PLF then you just got to do well on exams.

i loved prof van buskirk's class SOO much. she is so sweet and helpful. she explains all the concepts well and goes through everything many times. her tests are literally just the tophat questions + practice exam questions. she never puts random/irrelevant stuff on exams. she's clearly very passionate about biology, and i loved her energy!

Not an easy A. You get to choose from 4 different research labs to do an internship for. Skills tests and quizzes (doable). You will write a proposal and micropub, do a journal club presentation and a group presentation (at end of class). All are graded harsh. Definitely get research experience. Research isn't my thing so I wouldn't take it again.
