she is the best
Awesome Prof! Very funny and easy to listen to. Seemed like she genuinely cared how her students did in this course. I'd definitely take one of her classes again!
Great professor. She is a fair marker and her classes are not boring. Best psychology professor I've had yet at Mun. Would highly recommend. I have taken 2010 with Cheryl and 2011 with another professor and although they have similar material Cheryl's class was WAY more interesting and MUCH easier. Gives an optional assignment to increase your mark.
Cheryll cares about her students and it shows in her teaching method. At the beginning of the semester she gives you three options for grading schemes where you decide how you're graded (more emphasize on exams, papers, or quizzes). She gives the practice questions for the midterm and final. I hate psych and would still recommend Cheryll.
One of the best profs i've had. Notes that she sends out have blanks and the answers are available in her slides during lectures. Gives options for which grading criteria you want to use (midterm and final heavy to assignment and participation heavy). Also gives out options for short answer mid term questions prior to exam. Also a great lecturer!
Cheryll is a great prof. I wasnt sure about her at first but I love her now. She gives lecture note slideshows but they have blanks that you have to go to class to get the answers for. Gives you a choice of what you want your grading scheme to be. Makes lectures interesting and shes a very fair marker. Always looked forward to her class
As mentioned in others' comments, she allows students to choose their grading scheme. I chose the option with only two midterms and a final after two poor experiences with group assignments. Good prof. Speaks fast sometimes and goes quickly through slides. I found tests and exams to be fair, even though there was a lot of material covered on each.
Cheryll was a great professor. She wasn't exactly for me, but still a great prof. Her lectures were always very upbeat and she got to know most of the 150 students in her class by name. She's very knowledgeable on her topics and if you have any questions she is more than happy to find the answer for you if she doesn't already know it.
Best prof ever! She made Winter 2018 psych 1001 so fun, interesting, and caring. She gets to know everyone and refers to people in the class during lectures when explaining topics, giving us personal connections. She was approachable and understanding, even when you were extremely late to and important test. Cheryll, thank you. Sincerely, M.
Cheryll is a wonderful person and a very good teacher. Her lectures are interesting and informative. She uses slideshows and all notes are on D2L.
Love love love her lectures!! I could listen to her talk all day! She has quiz on each chapter (5mc) which i thought would be horrible but it is actually really beneficial when it comes to studying for tests! Gives lots of examples in class and is super nice
One of my favourite profs and courses by far. I genuinely enjoyed going to her lectures and she is so approachable if you ever need help with anything. Would definitely recommend!
talks to fast, didn't give enough awareness when changed midterm date. wasn't agreeable to work out better accommodations with me
Super sweet person. She knows her stuff and if there is something that she doesn't know she will find out for you. She has a lot of real-life examples in her notes as well as video links to aid in understanding. She is pretty funny and interactive with the class. There are only 2 midterms and a final with all three being all multiple choice.
Cheryl is a really good prof. She is very understanding of circumstances outside of the classroom. She is also very helpful in terms of explaining things and also answers email very quickly.
Course is based around presenting papers, reading a lot of articles, and discussion. She gives great feedback and is super approachable outside of the classroom and responsive to emails. Would take again in a heartbeat!
great at explaining the slideshow during lectures and will answer any question you have! a really fun prof and easy to get along with.
Professor Cheryll is a great instructor! All of her lectures were very interesting and interactive. She also has a habit of teaching the material through the use of the class (Discussions/examples). I would recommend anyone taking entry-level psychology courses to consider her!
Made online courses awful. She valued not giving her students the opportunity to cheat more than their actual grade in the class. Made regular 50 minute quizzes 20, 1.5 hour midterms 40 etc. Asks a specific question and grades for not including extra detail. Questions tend to be from outside the course material, making it hard to prepare.
She is my all time favourite Prof, so understanding, so easy to talk to. Do not be afraid to ask questions or make an appointment with her, she will go over anything a million times till you get it. Love her and love Abnormal psychology.
Her lectures were always interesting with tons of anecdotes and videos. Her powerpoint slides were pretty comprehensive for exams but she does a great job of explaining the content in them during class. Her journal article assignments in PSYC1001 were amazing for me to get a head-start into reading scientific articles in psych. Recommend!
I had Dr. Fitzpatrick for PSYC1000 over the summer. This class was entirely first-year students. She was quite blunt. One of the first things she said to us was Im not your friend and I certainly dont want to be. She OFTEN discouraged us from emailing her. We had 8 quizzes, 8 group projects, 5 individual assignments, 2 midterms, and 1 final.
Cheryll is the best psyc prof Ive ever had. She genuinely cares about her students. She gave us a choice of how we wanted to be graded which I thought was so nice since everyone learns differently. Lecture notes have fill in blanks, so attendance is a must but I found her classes pretty interesting.
Took the class as an elective and did not expect to have so much work. She wants you to understand the material but I did not appreciate all the pop quizzes, assignments and harsh grading. Gave me a headache.
I had Cheryll for an online course during the summer semester. There were specific days for discussions (that you had to work out time with an assigned group) and quizzes weekly as well as scheduled lectures. Overall I think she is good at teaching the material but rather unapproachable as I have emailed before and received unpleasant replies.
Great prof! She enjoys what she's teaching and gives great explanation on topics. Course consisted of weekly 10 multiple choice quizzes, 2 assignments, 2 midterms, and a final. Content was very straight forward and everything you need to know is in her lecture notes, and she pre records her lectures so you can watch them whenever you like!
One of my least favourite profs ever. She is rude, she's belittling, she expects us to know a lot of things coming into this course. Her quizzes are tough, but the midterm was worse. She didn't give us anything to prepare. Her quizzes are laid out as one question at a time, which is extremely difficult. She is super slow with emails. Never again.
She was initially good at the start of the semester (Winter 2021), and as the course goes on, she just gets worse and worse. She is the most inconsiderate prof I have had so far, and will not change her ways for anything. If you want a prof who doesn't care about you and will post passive-aggressive announcements on brightspace, Cheryll is the one.
Passive aggressive and rude to her students. Even if I had a life dependent question I would NOT email her. Easy course but she makes it unenjoyable.
She offers multiple grading options which is great for students during the pandemic but she gives quizzes about 10 minutes after class which is inconvenient for students who have another class right after. Additionally, she's condescending in her lectures on times. Unless you like to feel bad for doing well on a midterm, I would not recommend.
very inconsiderate towards students, doesnt accommodate students needs or care about our situations, and urges to not email her. i emailed and got a very inconsiderate and rude reply, only to have my situation stay the same. dont recommend, we had 10 quizzes, 2 big assignments, 2 midterms and the final.
By far one of the most unreasonable and rude professors I have come across in my entire degree. As a distance educator she is extremely hard to work with as its her way or nothing. If you have anything come up or you have additional responsibilities outside of MUN I highly recommend avoiding the headache of having only 10 mins to access midterms
Great prof! I enjoyed all of her lectures, it was a pretty busy course weekly tests 2 midterms 2 big assignments and a final, but generally liked what i was learning and the structure of the course. Would definitely take again!
Dr. Fitzpatrick is very very rude. Wont answer emails unless written very specifically. Will give you saucy replies if you ask her questions. Is not warm or welcoming if youre struggling or need help. Do not take this prof if there are other options. Overall not that bad at teaching, but she is very rude and not helpful.
If this is one of your main/heavier courses, shes fine. But as for an elective avoid!!! This course load is way too heavy for a first year course. Quizzes every week that have very specific and difficult questions. Shes also very rude when trying to contact (email/etc.) no need to make the course this difficult.
Dr. Fitzpatrick was a fine teacher. While not very personable, her weekly quizzes were a good grade booster and not hard at all. Lectures were word-for-word of slideshows released and gave fairly limited feedback for assignments. Not bad if you just need the class credits, but reconsider if this is an elective.
Good, straightforward and clear instructions. Easy to follow. Do work and pass! All multiple choice with a couple short answer questions. Replies to inquiries quickly. Understanding and caring. Clear and precise feedback. Highly recommend.
Cheryll is such a great prof. She genuinely cares, takes the time to learn her students names and is very approachable. She gives great feedback and is always there to help. Best prof I've ever had. I absolutely adore her
I absolutely loved Dr. Fitzpatrick. She responded to all of my emails in a timely manner, she gave me extra credit assignments to work on, no hesitation she just wanted to help me succeed, I found her course load was very similar to other Psychology courses in regards to quizzes, midterms, and a final. I highly recommend taking a course with her.
Dr. Fitzpatrick can be a little condescending and rude when emailing, but she is not a bad prof. Seems to genuinely enjoy what she does and makes the material interesting. Weekly quizzes, but they aren't hard as long as you pay attention! Highly recommend.
DO NOT shy away from choosing Fitzpatrick as your prof because of these ratings. Cheryll is very caring toward students who need extra help, she is willing to work with students outside of class to improve their understanding and she is very passionate about teaching. I was shocked to see some of these comments. Her grading criteria is very clear.
Cheryll is very nice. She definitely cares about the courses she teaches and is willing to help. She expects a lot, which is fine. The major problem I have is that she outwardly says she grades on a curve which is majorly problematic to students who did fine but don't have enough time to dedicate to compare to other students. It's just unfair.
Although her lectures were a bit dry, I found her quizzes and her final to be extremely fair. I enjoyed this course so much on its own that I didn't find I needed to spend hours studying for the exam or even the quizzes. I feel as though her classes would be more enjoyable in person!! She's very kind and wants her students to do well
her lectures were fun and easy to watch but the midterms and finals were very much more difficult than the quizzes
Cheryll is by far my favourite prof at MUN! She is caring about her students and wants to see them succeed. She makes herself as available as possible to help others if they are having trouble and she is very clear in what she expects for assignments. Would highly recommend!
Dr. Fitzpatrick makes her expectations very clear. Show up for class, pay attention and you will be fine. Many of these rude comments are probably submitted by students who show up to class late, smelling like dope and come looking for a passing grade 2 classes before the semester ends. Fitzpatrick is awesome, chose her or regret it!
Pay attention and you will do well.
The BEST prof at Mun! She makes lectures enjoyable and is all around a great human being. I have never met an educator more passionate towards what they are teaching! She is very understanding and has a great sense of humor. Even though you are in a big lecture hall, she makes every student feel appreciated and is an incredibly supportive person!
Would choose Cheryll over any other prof! SERIOUSLY the best in the department!
She will go out of her way to help students and is the most down to earth professor around! She has a wicked sense of humor and always interacts with her students even when there is 200+ of them!
Can not ask for a better psych prof if you tried !!!!
MOST everyone who has done a lecture with Dr.Fitzpatrick has the same feedback! She is absolutely incredible and no one could ask for a better professor!
The most fun, respectful, and all around best prof at MUN! HIGHLY recommend taking a class with Dr.Fitzpatrick! As long as you do the work given and meet deadlines, she is an all around amazing person and has the BEST lectures!!
Definitely the nicest individual you will ever meet! Treats her students with respect as long as they do the same !
I loved Cheryll, her lectures were easy to listen to and she made them so interesting. My course included 1 mid term, 1 final exam, quizzes, and small in-class assignments. You have the option to choose between two separate grading paths. Although, her quizzes were quite difficult unless you know the subject in depth.
Cheryll was an amazing professor, her classes were very interesting. She posts all material online and is very organized. She is extremely caring towards her student and is very accessible outside of class and replies to emails in
I lovedddd Dr.Fitzpatrick! She was so funny and her lectures were extremely interesting, she made this class fun! I took it online and while it was extremely reading heavy, she accommodated the online groups extremely well with a quiz every week to test your knowledge. I would take her 1000 times over!
Very good format for the online course, easy to follow along and has weekly activities to help you stay up to date. Would recommend taking as an online elective.
very funny prof, super accessible, good at explaining, and would relate topics back to real life and situations. graded by chapter quizzes, a midterm, and a final. gave the option of two grading paths, all you had to do was completed weekly in-class assignments and it would reduce the weight of midterm and final. would absolutely recommend!
While Dr. Fitzpatrick is very knowledgeable and explains concepts well, her quizzes, midterm, and final exam were very difficult. I highly recommend getting the textbook even though it isn't required. Many of the exam questions came from the text!
Cheryll's a great person with very structured lectures. Although I did find she would get off track very easily. She has a textbook provided on brightspace and I definitely recommend reading it along with the material. Almost everything she says is word for word from the textbook. Midterm/exam is just scantron multiple choice & fill in the blanks.
Loved Dr. Fitzpatrick. Her lectures are interesting and gives you an option on grading paths. She really knows her stuff and loves answering questions as well.
Dr. Fitzpatrick taught this course online for the first time this semester, and I feel that creating an online course shell may have brought forth some challenges. Grading criteria were a bit fuzzy and a lot of the questions on quizzes weren't in the notes. Aside from written notes, she didn't provide any extra resources.
Cheryll is the best prof I've had so far! She offers two grading paths, one offers 20% for in-class activities that help to boost your grade by quite a lot. They also help you to make friends in your classes. I looked forward to these activities and they helped me to understand the content a lot. She is very caring and easy to talk to. Easy A
Her lectures were really good and engaging. I could not proiritize psychology compared to my other classes, and still did okay on exams just for going to class and listening. Everything learned in class was on exam.
Even though this was an online course, I loved Dr. Fitzpatrick! She is very accessible outside of class and runs office hours, and is always willing to help. She is funny and great to talk to, and wants the best for her students. Her course was very interesting, and I like that her questions can be challenging/application based.
I loved Dr. Fitzpatrick! She is extremely caring towards her students and is extremely accessible outside of class. Lots of extra credit with being able to pick your own grading path. midterms and exams were extremely fair. I've taken her for both an in-person course and online and both were good! As long as you pay attention it is easy to succeed
Cheryl is awesome, funny, sweet and smart. She makes lectures fun and engaging and is one of the easiest professors to follow. Very involved with helping her students. Multiple opportunities to succeed in her course
I took this as an online course so I had limited interactions with her but she did not seem too eager to help and often pushed things off onto the TA's. She is a nice woman though and is very knowledgeable. Perhaps better to take her course in person.
I absolutely loved Cheryll's class. She gave the option of being graded on participation/group activities or only on the tests. As someone who does not like group work, I greatly appreciated the option. The textbook was written by her and another professor and it was honestly my favorite textbook I've ever worked with. Great prof. Highly recommend!
Although I had Dr.Fitzpatrick online she was very helpful when needed. Her feed back was very detailed and she made it very clear what was expected. Quizzes and activities were relatively easy making it easy to boost grades before finals!
Amazing prof. Great lectures, humor, respectful, caring
fantastic proff and great engaging lectures. dr.fitzpatrick gives students opportunities to learn and practice course material via the option of different learning paths and weekly quizzes. unfortunately, students are NOT respectful towards their peers and dr. fitzpatrick during lectures. honestly ruined my otherwise great experience in this class.
She is amazing! She loves what she does and keeps the whole class engaged as she teaches! Very nice person as she is easy to reach when you have questions.
Dr. Fitzpatrick is passionate about topics covered. She does a very good job at linking course material to everyday situations, making it much easier to recall information. The option for separate grading paths really helped me boost my GPA and retain course material. You can tell she cares for her students, and her course was enjoyable overall.
Professor Fitzpatrick truly enjoys what she teaches and has amazing lectures. She does a very good job at putting the material into real life context which makes it much easiest understand. Very fair grader and provides many opportunities to do well.
Dr. Fitzpatrick is.... interesting. Very great in lectures, and makes them not so boring and dreary. However, I found from time to time she had a "holier than thou" attitude. 8 easy online quizzes, one midterm, and the final was easy (matching and mc). Two grading paths gave very helpful option for tests to carry less weight. Read the textbook!!
This course was online, so there was a lot of reading. But if you actually read the material then the quizzes and activities are very easy. The midterm and final were easy and short (only MC and matching), all of the questions were from the notes, quizzes and activities.
Her grading is quite lenient, she takes 8 quizzes and takes the grades from the best 6 quizzes. The final and the mid were fairly easy. An easy A with just reading the book (it isn't that lengthy).
She gave incredibly engaging and informative lectures, and assessments in this course were not difficult. My only concern is that she could be very short on patience even when students had legitimate questions and sometimes treated students like they were children, which I felt discouraged discussions. Still, it's evident she is very knowledgeable.
Hands down the best professor at MUN. Her lectures are easy to follow and interesting. She will help you with anything she can and give great advice on how to do well in her course. Evaluations are graded fairly and you can choose your grading path. Best prof I've had and helped me gain so much academic confidence. Dr. Fitzpatrick is awesome.
I loved Cheryll, definitely the best prof I've had. Try to attend lectures if possible because her test questions are primarily from her lectures. overall her tests were straightforward, had a great course grading layout, and she had amazing lectures!
There are so many good ratings, so maybe the book was swapped or something this semester? I'm a 3rd year student with a stellar GPA. Many questions in the quiz and exam don't appear in the book neither taught. If I had a time machine, I wouldn't take this course, but if I must, I would take the "extra assignment" grading path.
She is so beyond strict and overall has such bad energy. Avoid her at all cost her tests and exams are extremely miss leading and she will give you a 0 for small errors such as incorrect scantron
This professor was genuinely the worst I've ever had. She was rude, unhelpful, and completely unprofessional. I reached out to her twice for help throughout the semester via email, and both times she responded rudely. Both exams were ridiculously hard, and mistakes in grading were common. I was shocked by her behavior. Never taking her class again.
It's not as challenging as calculus 3 or chemistry, but for me it was harder than both because it was too detailed oriented. There are too many topics, and the midterm was based on how well you memorize the examples given in the text book, which was written by Dr. Fitzpatrick. If you are a detail oriented person, it's not bad.
Do not bring your phone to class. This professor was harsh with word delivery, instead of just taking a students exam she proceeded to yell and distract the other students for minute(s), once time was up she was quick to snatch up exams. Heavy weighted finals with about a minute per question, unsure if that's normal especially for an intro course.
She is a nice professor who helps when you reach out. I did enjoy her lectures too
I learned so much in Dr. Fitzpatrick's class, she is very engaging and charismatic. She gives lots of feedback will the goal of improving students writing skills. She is also very approachable outside of class, even concerning things not related to her course specifically. Fav class I've taken!!
TLDR; If you're not neurotypical, avoid this prof!! This was the last psyc course for my minor & the 1st w/ in-person quizzes & assign. Exams had written responses, not just multiple choice. She was rude when I asked to use my accommodations. I have never put this much work into a course for low marks. Essentially need perf. attendance to succeed.
One of my fav profs, she gives lengthy feedback on assignments but it's all for the sake of improving yourself. The feedback can be daunting but she's in extremely fair grader and truly is just trying to prepare you for your future. I 100% recommend her, but not if you're sensitive to constructive criticism (that will make you a better student).
I really enjoyed 4054 with Cheryll. She is a tougher grader, but no more than what you should expect for a 4000-level course. Participation and attendance in this course matter. She is very helpful and has office hours you should go to. As long as you prepare with the readings before class and follow her outlines, you should do well.
