Amazing teacher! Would take him again if I could, tells you exactly what to study for your Tests. Gives assignments for more points on Grades. Lectures are online, and he cares about his students passing.
A great professor. Study the power points. Go to class, he might surprise you with extra credit. I would take him again!
Makes an easy class easy. Seriously, best science professor at KSU. He is clear and concise and really knows how to engage the whole class of 200 students. Power Points, labs online. No textbook assigned. 5 tests, drops lowest. 5 labs that are just worksheets but do require an hour to do outside of class. Study PP's and you're good.
Chesley McNeil is a really chill teacher. He is also part of the 11-Alive news team. We had about 5-6 exams, and 5 labs to do. The labs were usually pretty simple, just time consuming. The exams were only difficult if you don't go to class and pay attention on review day. There are no study guides but he does a review the day before each exam.
My favorite professor so far. He is a weatherman in the morning for 11 Alive. I came to his class just to laugh. Funniest man there is. Often gave extra credit to those who showed up on Friday's. I am taking him again next semester for SCI1102.
Easily the best teacher I've had so far. He likes to make the lessons fun. I highly recommend this class. You'll get an A if you try even the slightest. Fridays he gives extra credit when almost no one shows up.
Probably my favorite teacher, very funny and good speaker. Taking him again for SCI1102. The class was relatively easy, rare homework, tests weren't bad- you just only have 45 mins but not a lot of questions so it evens out.
Professor McNeil is one of the best teachers I have ever had. He is hilarious, has a very entertaining class, and realizes that this class is generally meant for people who need an easy science gen ed course and he treats it that way. He wants you to succeed and you can easily do so with minimal effort. Amazing professor and an easy A.
Really engaging lecturer, and since teaching is something he loves but it isn't his main gig, he's a really easy grader, too. The tests are a piece of cake. There isn't a LOT of homework, but what there is is a little harder, so make sure you put effort into it. If you're looking to get through your science gen ed painlessly, he's perfect.
He isn't a real professor, just a meteorologist that talks to college students about science in his free time. He gives you online open book tests (or open powerpoint, bc we have no book). The last assignment we had consisted of questions taken word for word from AP Environmental class quizlets. Just don't bother with him, take an actual class.
Had him for 1101 and LOVED him. It was an easy A. Then I take him for 1102 and he's completely changed everything. Tests are online and on quizlet but assignments for each test are IMPOSSIBLE and count for a lot. I got A's on every test yet failed every assignment. Good luck trying to contact him, he never responds.
easy class but tests can be tricky. drops the lowest test grade. go to class and he might give you extra credit or a pass on an assignment
Let me preface by saying that I took 1101 and he was the best professor ever. Extremely easy class, very caring and funny guy, easy A. Took 1102, expecting the same thing, and it just wasn't. The tests were just as easy (and online) but the HW assignments were really hard. Got all A's on tests, but did poorly on HW. Ended with a B...
Easy A, Online Test, some extra credit if you show up to class
THE EASIEST CLASS I HAVE EVER TAKEN. Attendance is optional but if you show up on days he plans to give assignments you get a free 100 for them. Exams are online and open note. My only complaint is that he does not proof read exams and there are A LOT of spelling errors that will sometimes impact what you pick answer choice wise. Still super easy A
Chesley McNeil is an awesome professor. He's super funny and his lectures aren't ridiculously boring for a class that isn't super interesting. If you go to class he will randomly exempt you from homework assignments and all of the tests are online and straight from the lectures that he posts on D2L.
Lectures are extremely boring and you really don't have to show up for class because tests and assignments are all done online and they are based off of Powerpoints and answers on quizlet. If you do show up to class you may get excused from doing a few assignments. Overall pretty easy class
Kind of dull power point lectures and occasional discussion. He almost always lets class out early. Exams are worth the majority of your grade, and there are like 4 homework assignments throughout the semester. Relatively easy class if you *do the work*. Show up every class and you could get exempt from assignments. He's a funny guy, too.
If you need any extra help or have special needs, youre pretty much screwed. He doesnt have office hours, evades any attempts to arrange meetings, and NEVER answers emails. He does the absolute bare minimum to get by. Not to mention his lectures are just him reading word for word off the power points. And the exams are confusing and frustrating.
He's a nice guy! But his assignments and tests are horrible! He gets them from the book but doesn't check to see if we have even covered the material. You think that you're doing well but end up with low grades. He gives bonus points here and there but it won't help much. You can even lookup answers for the tests and still make low grades!
He's a funny guy, but I wouldn't take him again. His tests seem easy but you still somehow make a bad grade?? Tests and assignments are open note but it doesn't help very much. He isn't willing to work with students on explaining assignments or their content. He didn't give a syllabus for the class so I didn't know how to calculate my grade.
All his tests are online which you'd think would be an easy A but it's not. Test are almost impossible to use outside sources on and have many grammatical and spelling errors that will influence your answer choice. Tests are 80% of your grade. Super easy to make a B in the class but difficult to make an A.
Nice guy. There are five tests and five assignments. The tests are relatively easy, but he uses wordplay to trip you up because the material is really easy. The assignments are more difficult because they aren't really based on the lecture powerpoints. Show up to class, he gives points or 100 on assignment. Textbook is unnecessary. Easy A.
5 exams 4 assignments all online and no lockdown browser/monitor. Typos and wordplay will influence answer choices for exams so be careful. Exam material was found on quizlet and class powerpoints. Assignments were tricky and did not correlate with class lectures so go to class for random exemption opportunities and extra credit. Guaranteed B
Honestly I didn't go to class past the second week of school. I made a 91, but it would've been higher if it hadn't been for the janky grading on some tests and assignments. Teaching is his side profession so his assignments/grading isn't very refined and can sometimes be a mess. That being said, all power points are online so are tests, very easy.
Professor McNeil was a great professor. He was so funny and kept you entertained. He doesn't give much homework, just a few assignments. His tests aren't too bad and he occasionally gives extra credit to those who show up for class. Actually make sure he knows you bc if you have a border line grade by the end he will bump you if he knows you
There just aren't many opportunities to bring your grade up if you average a B on the exams. Not the easiest guy to get in touch with through email, but a very nice and approachable guy and tries to make this class as interesting as he can.
Grade based upon tests and homework assignments. Textbook not needed. Tests are all online and open note. Not necessary to attend class because he posts all the lectures, but sometimes he gives extra credit if you come to class. Very nice guy. Little slow to respond to emails, but not in an unreasonable time.
THE BEST TEACHER I HAVE HAD!!! Funny and wants his students to LEARN not to just memorize for a test! He is funny and care about us... 6 test and 6 assignments (all online). TAKE HIM!!! You won't regret it!
Professor McNeil was a great professor to have and did his best to make sure his students had what they needed to succeed. His classes were enjoyable and informational.. He ended up helping me out and giving me a grade I didn't deserve so as to help me keep my scholarship. He may come off as harsh in certain aspects, however he is a great person.
Super funny and makes lectures very entertaining. Attendance is not mandatory, but he does choose random days for extra credit! I will say, the tests aren't as easy as you may think, as he seems to purposely make questions kind of confusing and tricky and makes it seem like there's 2 answers. Study hard A Don't really study B
This class was online due to COVID. He is very bad at grammar... the online quizzes/tests had a lot of errors that confused the students... he will say he's only human and can make mistakes, and that it's our fault we still misunderstood him. Good guy, just confusing. Quizlet was my friend. NEED textbook for specific numbers and details on tests.
Professor McNeil is a really good person and a charismatic teacher but his teaching skills are lacking. His class wasn't very hard but the quizzes and lecture notes don't always match. He doesn't make them himself. I took this class during the coronavirus stuff and I'm sure his class is better in person. Overall it should be an Easy A if you try
Registered for an Online/Synchronous class. Class met maybe 20 min. during the entire semester. He did not lecture at all. Only readings and PPT. No other supplemental materials. He was hired and paid to teach but did not. Students left to fend for themselves. Exams were open book/PPT. Exams confusing with lots of errors. Rarely responds to emails.
I took Chesley in person for Science 1102 and usually I'm good with environmental science considering it's my minor, but he made this hard. You rarely can reach him outside of class, in class he just reads over the PowerPoints that he posts and even if you study all the slides it's rare you get an A. He's nice and funny but the class isn't the best
None of the material is very hard, if you just take the (open note) quizzes and exams with the PPTs and the textbook you should get 100 every time. However, the lectures are a bit lacking. He's funny and charismatic but I swear he doesn't read the slides on the PPT until they show up during the lecture that day. Easy class but unfulfilling.
Quizes are hard but Low %age of the grade. Test and hw are very easy. Gave bonuses for going to class.
DO. NOT. TAKE!!! He is not accessible outside of class AT ALL, his quizzes are open book but NONE OF THE QUESTIONS CAN BE ANSWERED BASED ON THE NOTES HE GIVES, and sometimes THEY HAVE QUESTIONS FROM THE WRONG UNIT! He makes this class hard for absolutely no reason whatsoever. AVOID AT ALL COSTS! Most people in my class failed.
Requires a textbook gets a decent amount of questions from there. He is the weather man for 11 alive news. If you come to class in the later part of the semester you will get extra credit for showing up. His test and quiz questions are very nite picky.
While he seems nice, he is a horrible teacher. Quizzes were open book, but the answers could not be found in any of the resources provided (powerpoints, textbook). Tests could be found all on quizlet. Lectures were severely lacking. Don't take him if you can help it, especially if you're a science major.
Concepts are really easy put he pulls the quiz and test questions out of thin air. You cannot find some if them in the powerpoints or the book.
Tests are 50% of grade, quizzes 25% of grade and homework 25% of grade. All assignments are on D2L and Pearson. Homework and Tests are very easy, but the quizzes are difficult and most the answers can't be found on his online powerpoints. Easy class to knock out, but almost impossible to get an A because of the quizzes. Attendance not mandatory.
I only showed up to class 4 times and passed with an A. His tests are not lockdown whatsoever and as long as you finish everything on time, you'll get an A. If you're looking for an easy A Chesley is the way to go for sure.
Took him for SCI 1102, he basically teaches off powerpoints, tests and quizzes are online no lockdown, homework as well, he dropped the lowest 2 quizzes and 1 homework at the end of the semester, he gives extra points if you go to class, easy class if you do everything on time.
Attendance is not mandatory but he does give extra credit at random times. His quizzes are difficult so make sure you read the PowerPoints and the online text book.
Interestin dude, but very obvious he didn't care that much about the class- nor did I so it works out. Quizzes are impossible unless you devote your life to the textbook, but everything else is ridiculously easy. Finished with an A despite my egregious quiz average. Attendance is not mandatory either. Definitely would take again for my gen ed req.
Only thing I disliked was paying for a textbook. Everything is on quizlet and he clearly just be teaching for fun on the side. If you show up, he will randomly give 20 pts 40 pts extra credit to everyone. Great professor, fun class take this if you want a easy A.
Professor McNeil is a fun professor and his lectures are engaging! Online quizzes every other week, online tests after each chapter, and labs with every test that are quite complicated, however the labs he grades based on completion rather than accuracy. This is a easy class and as long as you do the assignments and notes, it's an easy A.
I would not recommend Mr. Mcneil. Every lecture he just powers through the slides, so there really is no point in going. the quizzes are extra hard for no reason. You can tell by his teaching style he doesn't take this job seriously(This is his part-time job, he is a meteorologist full-time). Save yourself some stress and don't take him.
funny gut, but he gives labs every week that are outrageously hard for no reason, have to be printed out to turn in.He will not answer a text or email. His test are always very difficult. Can tell he does not care about the class just throws work on you and gets someone else to grade it.Quiz and lab every week exam every two weeks expensive textbook!
He's class is pretty easy once he gets settled into to the semester, he does give labs that are pointless and don't really go along with the lessons but they are graded based on completion. The quizzes and exams are in his powerpoint slides and he will respond to texts best! He's a funny lecture professor and encourages discussion.
This class is an easy A. All test and quizzes are online, non-proctored. The only necessary time to show up to class is to turn labs. You can find almost all the answers for everything on Socratic. You will have to spend $100 dollars on mastering for homework, even though he doesn't assign much. Great person!
Absolutely terrible. $100 for a textbook you barely even use, but it's "required". You can tell he does not care about this job. Do not take him and don't say you weren't warned.
Professor McNeil made it clear that being a professor was his side hustle, which shows through his lectures. He reads off of the slides at a quick pace that you don't need to come to class and just take notes at home. He always gets the answer keys on exams and quizzes wrong and does not respond quickly to emails. However, this class is an easy A.
Everything you need is in the slides and online. Going to class helps for extra credit.
Professor McNeil would be a great professor if he actually cared about his job. Most of the test don't match up with the study guides or notes. Lectures are usually fun and cool. He is hard to get in touch with so if you rely on communication with courses don't take him. Slightly inconsistent and messy with schedule.
This class is so easy . McNeil is also very funny . The labs are literally a piece of cake . Exam / quizzes come RIGHT from the PowerPoints . Take this class if you can !!! Im not lying !! I am taking his SCI 1102 class so yk im being serious . Take it !!
Overall easiest science class ever. I almost never went to his lectures and still easily was able to get an A. All quizzes and tests were online with no lockdown browser. The only thing that you HAVE to go to class for is to turn in the lab worksheets because he did not take them online however they were for a completion grade rather than accuracy
Chesley McNeil is an amazing professor that made my first semester of freshman year much more easier. Attendance is not mandatory and all quizzes, homework, tests are online (are open note/and on quizlet) and Labs are for completion, not accuracy. Extra credit is also offered randomly on some days in class, and your lowest grade can be dropped!
This was a very easy class. You only have to turn the labs in person other than that attendance is not required. He posts all of the power points online. There is a quiz and test about every two weeks, but they are easy and don't have a lot of questions. He is very nice and will communicate outside of class. I would really recommend this class!
Professor McNeil is extremely unorganized and does not communicate well. The schedule is constantly changing and he does not answer emails. Thankfully, the class is super easy. Attendance is not mandatory (he cancels class often) and all quizzes/exams are open note. There are labs and homework that are due every few weeks.
TAKE THIS CLASS! Super easy class, no mandatory attendance, open note everything. It is very difficult to get anything below an A in this class because everything is open note. Professor McNeil is really cool and funny and even if you don't like him you don't have to go. All he does is read slides in class which he will post afterwards.
Very funny and engaging professor, clearly has a passion for what he's teaching. Class is super easy, tests and quizzes are all online and open book, all the answers are in the lecture slides and textbook. Only reason he's not a 5 is because he is impossible to reach outside of class by email or text(I tried both many times). Still recommend though
The class itself is very easy. All the homework, labs, tests, and quizzes answers can be found on online or straight from the notes word for word. Unfortunately Mr. McNeil does not respect his students. He is impossible to reach either by text or by email. He even refers to teaching as his "side hustle." Taking him is a bit of a gamble.
I really enjoyed taking this class. He was a very easy A and lectures were not mandatory. However, I really liked going to them because he was very funny. Also, he gives a lot of extra credit from middle - end of the year if you attend lectures.
Lots of homework/labs. Very boring class. Attendance not mandatory.
I took him for 1101 and found it super easy so I decided to take him again which was a terrible idea. His test and quizzes are filled with trick questions and typos with only 30 minutes to complete them. He is very unorganized and does not take accountability for his mistakes. The only upside is his test and quizzes are open-book.
wonderful professor, everything is online and attendance doesn't really matter. everything you need is in what he posts online. quizzes and homework (labs) every week, but they're all open note and so are the test. I highly recommend
DO NOT TAKE HIM! He pull his test and quiz question from out of nowhere. None of his tests/quizzes are in the text book or on his PowerPoint. He tries to reword his test/quiz questions until he just messes them up altogether, miss spell word a lot! Does not give you enough time to take test/quizzes. You pay for this class; but, you learn nothing!
He starts off the year by saying all this class is to him is a side hustle. He puts absolutely zero effort into anything he does. He never answers emails or texts. He misspells on quizzes and claims it was a "trick question" even though he doesn't spell anything correctly. quizzes make absolutely no sense. You barely get any time to complete them.
He's very receptive and accommodating, and gives extra credit. Very easy, fun and engaging class. Everything is open book, and the labs are a completion grade. It's an easy A as long as you're responsible and take note of the syllabus and schedule (unlike some of my peers)
While he's a very nice guy, and quite funny, his schedule changed 7 times, his exams included typos, and he was very "its the students' fault" when people in his class were struggling a lot. In order for you to get EC, you had to go to class, but I basically went through this class with a blindfold on because of him. DO NOT TAKE 1102 WITH HIM
McNeil is very unorganized. Throughout the entire year, no one knew when anything was due. He calls his job his "side hustle" and doesn't take it seriously. Towards the end, the lectures just became personal talk. Nothing was taught. His assignments close at weird times. No make ups. The only good thing is his extra credit.
Great guy. Definitely be ready to study PowerPoints and text book for quizzes. The wording can be tricky. He does give extra credit so stay til the end if you can. Definitely his side hustle job, has assistant who grades labs and what not
I had a great time with this class. Professor McNeil is very engaging in his lectures, attendance is not mandatory but he occasionally gives extra credit at random in class. The powerpoints give everything you need for quizzes and tests, which are open note. The labs are not difficult but do not wait to do them.
I ended the class with an A! he's easy trust. His exams and quizzes are all from POWERPOINT or other resources online
This is a very easy class don't listen to the bad reviews!
He gave out a bunch of extra credit! he is a good professor, he is caring if you have a question over the exams! take him
Dr. Mc. Neil was an incredibly talented professor and made sure his students had a great time in his class. His Labs were relatively simple, but make sure you know statistics lol. He is so friendly and so easy to talk too! So much respect for him.
Though his class was easy, it is impossible to get in contact with him. He is very unforgiving with deadlines, even if you have a major death in the family. All quizzes and tests are online and he'll sometimes hand out free 100's just for showing up to class. I just cannot get past the disrespect.
He is a super good teacher. He's funny and actually cares about his students. His tests are hard because of the time limit but he gives extra credit often (sometimes just for showing up to class). He lets class out early and the homework isn't too hard. Super fun class and not to hard overall!
This is one of the few professors I really enjoyed listening to. He gives lectures in a way that's entertaining and I genuinely like going to class because of him. His tests and quizzes might be a little challenging, you just have to read the book and study a little. He gave like 5 extra credit opportunities but you will need to go to class for it.
Took both Sci 1101 (fall 23) and Sci 1102 (spring 24). He is super cool and funny. Make sure to come to class he randomly gives extra credit. Test, quiz and hw are all online. Make sure to use ALL of you resources. No lockdown.
Mr McNeil is a great guy but don't take him. He says teaching is a side hustle and grades quizzes based on verb tense. Didn't mind him but not the best choice for the Science department. Dr. Max Crocker is way better!! I took him for 1102 and he is a lot more understanding and respectful.
Anybody saying his class is hard is lazy. Each week or every other week youll have a paper lab, quiz, and exam. On these days you dont have class and there is no lockdown browser for the test. Only way youll fail his test is if you dont do your work. come to his class sometimes he gives out random extra credit.
Do not take him. He does not respond to any emails, or any forms of communication. Will not let you make up any missed assignments. SO many quizzes with no time to do them.
If you will be on top of your work, I would recommend him. This class is pretty straightforward. There were 10 quizzes, 5 exams, 8 labs, and he does offer some form of extra credit randomly if you go to class. You can use your 'resources' but quizzes/exams are timed. He does not offer make-up work and he is not really good at responding to emails.
Super easy class with not many assignments to turn in. He gives you a schedule that tells you exactly when everything is due. Some labs throughout the semester, but all are taken for a completion grade so you'll get a 100 every time. Quizzes and exams are easy open note. I made an 86 in this class originally but he rounded my grade to an A lol
This professor says that teaching is his side gig, and you can tell. He does not teach concepts and rushes to get through class quickly. Quiz questions are graded opinionated and contradict what the textbooks/powerpoints say. He does not respond if you question him on it and provide proof. Easy class but don't take if u actually wanna learn science
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! he dose not Acknowledge his mistakes in test and dismiss you and clams that you haven't study or read enough the material WITCH I HAVE READ AND STUDY but could only make a grade 56 because of questions that aren't even PROVIDED INFORMATION.
Almost every quiz has had spelling/grammar errors, invites students to ‘talk out' your grade but talks over you and/or dismisses you without listening. Impossible to reach outside of class, admits to writing ‘trick questions' to spice up exams. Accused me of not trying when I have put more effort into this class than anything else in my life.
Makes it a point to rush through class and is very self-contradictory. Says the PowerPoint is all we need, but based questions off of textbook graphics. I've spent more time reading the textbook for this course than I've spent on my other 4 classes combined.
If you want an easy A, take this class. The people who are giving bad reviews don't work or come to class. The labs can be done within an hour. Quizzes and exams are all open-note, but timed. He's STRICT with deadlines, so if you ignore them, you'll fail. Just come to class and keep your textbook out while taking your exams and you'll be fine.
Honestly an easy A. Tests are online and can be taken at home so take advantage of that. He has long labs every other week but just try your best and you'll pass them. He is impossible to reach outside of class so don't even bother. Attendance is not mandatory. Taking notes is a waste of time. Just open file during test. Just put effort in thb.
This class is an easy A. Labs are for a completion grade. Tests/quizzes can be taken online and match the slides almost exactly. Attendance isn't mandatory but he gives surprise extra credit just for showing up sometimes. Take this class for the credit, but if you actually want to learn & enjoy science, this class probably isn't for you.
He was a great professor, very kind and respectful. I would choose him for your SCI 1101 course.
Very Easy Class.
Makes up rules as he goes. By far the worst professor at KSU. Tests contradict what's taught. He has admitted to giving students As they didn't earn if he recognizes your profile picture on your student profile. If you can stay on top of the changing due dates go for it. Otherwise, you can be in a coma and he genuinely wouldn't care.
His lectures are pretty good (pretty much reads the slides word for word) but wasn't too big a fan of the class. All the grades are 5 homeworks/lots of open book tests/quizzes, which sounds good but they were pretty tedious. There are lots of trick questions in there and feel more like a test of picking out the most specific thing over learning.
He does give open-note take-home quizzes and exams, which is a huge advantage. However, he does not put in grades until the very end of the semester, which is nerve-wracking because you basically won't know what grade you have until the very end. He is also extremely hard to reach outside of class, and he changes due dates out of nowhere.
Was a very easy and enjoyable class. Took 1101 and 1102 and had good experiences in both.
He's a very nice guy; he's the only professor who can get an entire class comfortable and have us laugh and participate. It's never a boring time when I come to his class. If you happen to have him, you are fortunate!
He is super sweet and chill, the only thing that sucks is printing out the labs and turning them in. Besides that, his class is an easy A.
