Interesting teacher with a good sense of humor. lets you read off a script when giving speeches.
demanding but fair. Not reccomended over an intersession, almost imposible to follow if you get lost or miss a class.
I have learned sooooo very much in Prof. Schnepf's class. He is very interesting and very dedicated! I would recommend him to anyone!!
Professor Schnepf challenges your mind, making you face reality. You have to read a lot and learn to put your ideas together...He is also funny and makes the class enjoyable.
INTERESTING COURSE MATERIAL...NOT YOUR AVERAGE ENGLISH CLASS. BE PREPARED TO DO A LOT OF RESEARCH AND A LOT OF WRITING.
He was a great professor...I learned sooo much in his class that one can take on during there everyday lives...I would highly recommened this teacher
aw man, hes's tough I actually transferred out of his class. He's probably ok to take a regular course with but DO NOT take him for a summer class, very hard and you have to read a 450 page book in a week and write about it. also he video taped us, who does that??
I really enjoyed this class. He is tough... but he makes it fun and worth going to.
Professor Schneph is a wonderful teacher. I am always looking forward to his class. He is a very energetic human being and his enthusiasm that he has each class keeps the subject so interesting.....I Loved This CLASS.......
I loved this class. i thought he was an amazing teacher and he completely changed the way i look at everything. thats what a good teacher is suppose to do, and everyone who is bashing him on this site completely missed who prof. schnepf really is and what he is all about. it was a blessing to be in his class and i would recommend him to anyone.
Horrible professor. I think he teaches solely to hear himself speak. He passes off his own opinions as true fact, and shows absolutly biased videos as if it were factual. His lectures are disjointed and he is consistently sarcastic. Take this professor if you are looking for an easy grade, but don't really give a**** about learning anything.
Professor Schnepf is the best. Be prepared to read a lot. You will be writing about everything you read and not just spewing back the words but you will be challenged to interpret the readings for your self. This class makes you think. He is just the best??
You have to think in his class. He wants to hear and discuss your take on interesting topics presented in class. If you are lazy or mindless don't take this course.
This is the 2nd class I had of Prof. Schnepf. He actually makes you think. I did/learned things about art, music, etc. that I probably would have never experienced. Great class. I looked forward to going. If you want a quick easy course to skate through, don't take him. If you want to enrich your life, then take his class. He is great. :-)
It was the best Engl. class I ever had, amazing works read and viewed(movies).I'm not a writer, but enjoyed doing the homework.Prof.Schnepf helps you unlock your creative side if you're open to it.2thumbsup
This is one professor that is truly passionate about his class, and he instilled that passion into each one of us. It was indeed a pleasure to read and view movies/artworks for creativity and fun, as opposed to all the usual medical textbooks for Nursing. I thoroughly enjoyed the challenges he put forth, and looked forward to being in class.
he knows billy joel for goodness sake! the first class he istantly got me thinking ONE OF THE BEST TEACHERS AT GATEWAY! i recommend him..hes a super nice guy who cares about "the arts" ITS NICE TO SEE A TEACHER WHO ACTUALLY IS ENTHUSIASTIC ABOUT HIS JOB!
He is the best english professor ever!!! he keeps class fun and interesting
LOVED THIS TEACHER! Has to be one of the best Ive had... I LOVED how he told us stories and made class actually interesting... I had to say that I couldnt wait to go to class the next week because he made it so interesting...
i think he is one of the best english 102 teachers out there i would reccomend everyone to take his class... *Saneisha*
He is very funny, very nice, and very understandable. Excellent teacher.
Great, great, great teacher! Absolutly take Professor Schnepf. His classes are very interesting and not boring at all. Very much related to the here and now, he tells great stories too. Take him for any english you have to!
It was a very good class, lots of good literature and fairly easy. He encourages you to think for yourself and shares things you might not have taken interest in on your own. My only annoyance was when grading papers he made almost no notes and just gave a grade at the top. Worth taking though.
You will learn so much in this class. There is a great deal of reading and writing, but worth it for future classes. Don't use cell phones in class - he hates that. Don't email him either - if you have good attendance, you won't miss anything. If you are a good notetaker, this is your best tool. He'll always be there for any help.
I absolutely loved him!!! he makes the class very interesting by adding a sense of humor which is needed when taking a class that involves alot of material that isn't so fun! but I really liked his teaching style which was lecture, and he also get's the class to engage in discussions voluntarily. I would definitely take his class again! :)
He is an amazing teacher. You need to attend his class all the time but his lectures are very interesting and you will learn a lot from him =]
This professor is incredible. He gives wonderful lectures and encourages each student to think differently about the information he presents. He opened my mind to new ideas and I thoroughly enjoyed his class. You must attend all classes! I would love to take him again.
Definitely take Lit & Comp with him. You will learn about yourself and start seeing things in a new perspective. The lectures are humorous, exciting, and eye opening. Just be sure to attend every class and take good notes. If you do then you will come out fine. A truly inspiring professor.
He is one from the best professors, very helpfull, great explaination, smart writer.great advisar, very knowlegde. If you were cofus about your career donot hisetated to speak with him I have got great discover from his about my future career rather than spending money and time without any beniefits in future.take notes and listn to him. wonderful
He is such wonderfull person, very smart professor, attend to his class and you will get beniefits in learing how to be a good writer, and great free advise about your career future. I will not hesitated to register in his class.
Schnepf is fantastic. Definitely not an easy A, but the work load is tolerable. Get a jump on the novel(s) ASAP, even before the semester starts and it will lighten the load considerably.
Prof Schnepf was an awesome teacher! I took his Winter 2011 Communications 171 class. He is fun, and keeps you interested. He wants to teach you everything he knows, to prepare you for your future.I would definatly take another class with him. He makes class fun and interesting, and makes you really want to learn. Amy P.
BEST TEACHER EVER!
Best professors I've ever had. Funny, helpful, and very understanding.
Fabulous, fabulous, fabulous! In a subject matter that I am not too fond of, Professor Schnepf engages the class and truly shows his joy of teaching and his expertise. He is a brilliant man and always willing to help a student succeed. He is not an easy A, but you will learn more in his class than with any other English professor; that is certain.
ABSOLUTLEY LOOOVE HIM !!! i will take him aqain in a heartbeat if i needed to take eng again. he is extremely smart & really makes u think about things yu never thought about. he gets ur brain going with questions. books are somewhat intresting . if u read the book u will ace the tests they r not hard. sparknotes helped me a ton tho. TAKE HIM !
I think hes really a great teacher.. we only had 3 test and a final.. i think, and he makes you see a play for 40% of your final grade. easy A and a great teacher
Prof Schnepf is a very interesting speaker who keeps his audience engaged. Notes were allowed on tests & the final, however, you will be tested on specific literary work, so reading all assignments is critical. Most interesting class ever, lots of discussion & films. Don't miss it!
I though this class would be the death of me! Although I felt that way I did enjoy the challenge it presented me with. Prof. Schnepf makes you look beyond the obvious. Alot of reading involved 3 short novels, a lot of short stories & plays. Be ready for tests on all reads, take notes on reads and what he says. View play & do review for 40% of final
He is that kind of human being who deserve all my respect. A great person and professor. Although I feel overwhelmed with so much work in a summer class, he taught me a lot in few days. If you are a lazy, don't take him. He puts to working out your brain, that's the best part for me, but the worse for drones.
Best Professor Ive ever had! Taking him again for another class. Good amount of work but worth it!
An obviously dedicated and engaging educator, I am delighted that I took his course. He keeps the material very interesting and fluctuates between textbook, novels and films. His course was a terrific adventure that I am so honored to have been a part of. If you participate, there is no way you can fail this coursse!
I LOVED HIM! he was such a fun teacher, i just finished the finial this morning, hes an amazing teacher and always keeps things interesting, hes very understandable to everyone's needs. Id take him again in a heart beat if i could. I wish he taught more than one subject ! :)
I have never been really good writing. In this class I didn't ever question my grades! He only wants you to think! Think outside the box. He is laid back and comfortable. He runs a very interactive class. As long as you keep with the readings you'll be fine. I would take him again in second.
He is a fantastic teacher. The readings were interesting and he made you think. I never missed a class because the class discussions were entertaining for me. If he taught more classes, I would definitely take him again.
You are wasting your time if take any other Prof. for any English class at GCC. He is engaging, clear, fair, honest, intelligent, well-spoken, truly invested in his students' success. Don't miss class, take notes, do the writing, put effort into writing your papers and it's in the bag. You get back what you put in. Best effort = A.
Best professor ever, best class ever !!!
I made the mistake of taking his class in the summer and found it overwhelming, but he is one of the few Professors that not only teaches what you need for class but also what you need for life.
Great Proffessor, Very engaging I found His class exciting Because he taught it so well, also he is really funny, Liked the class so uch that I plan on taking Philosophy with hi as well
He is the best teacher anyone can have. He is so funny. He makes reading and writing fun. I would definitely take his class again.
Took Schnepf twice. He was great both times. His philosophy class actually opened my eyes to a lot just in life in general. Very enthusiastic and fair grader. His test are all essays, so just read and you'll do great. Doesn't count attendance. Got an A in his English and philosophy class. Mostly lecture and class discussion
Schnepf can be interesting and funny. Though I think he would be better suited for teaching high school aged students. He tries very hard to impose his personal philosophies on his students which can be annoying and patronizing. Not a bad guy, just wants to make the kids open their eyes and think, as an adult I was annoyed. Easy enough grader.
AMAZING teacher he mainly focuses on Existentialism but he also wants the class to explore each others ideas and express themselves in good manner Shows interesting films EASY GRADES and he's really funny when telling his own stories Listens to this students I would totally recommend anyone into philosophy to take his course
Most amazing teacher I've taken at Gateway. Really gets you thinking, not only about literature but about life. As long as you read and actually try on tests, you'll get a good grade. Definitely recommend if you're looking for an interesting English class.
Great teacher. Keeps your attention. Do the readings assigned and show effort and you will get a good grade. Very enlighten ing. Enjoyed the books assigned . All tests are essays.
He made us read 3 novels and we had blue-book tests on them but of course no one read the books, read reviews and you'll do fine. This is philosophy and in order to get a good grade in this class you need to write as much as you can about your opinion on certain things. He cares about what we all have to say. Easy grader, i enjoyed his class.
I went into Schnepfs class with 3 B's and a C from the last semester and came out with an A for his comp course. He allows rewrites for every paper and he's an extremely easy grader. I had a 2.6GPA and got an A. He is also very helpful. He's very unclear though and tends to be a little forgetful but it's not that big of a deal.
Such a nice teacher. Easy going. We watched different parts of films that he would bring in almost every other class and talk about it. He lets you use open notes for every testquiz. Take notes and you're on the road to an easy A.
Psychoanalysis is incredibly crucial when entering his class. Prepare to comprehend positions held by characters in stories he assigns. He definitely notices the degree of effort put into both class work and homework. An incredibly intelligent professor to learn a considerable amount from if you listen. University level professor, but great guy!
Funny guy, but very strict in assignment and tests
Very entertaining class, his lectures and the way he speaks really make syou listen and keeps you entertained. There are barely any quizzes (if so, its on a short story he assigns you to read.. usually asks about the theme of the story). Mainly assigns papers giving you plenty of time to do them and always clarifies what he wants you to include.
Comes off as a hardass on paper (ex: strict deadlines )but he is actually a really soft and mushy guy who will accommodate you and your needs if a problem arises. Really awesome dude. Like the cool funny dad you always wish you had. Picked interesting stories that made you think about life, human nature, and what makes us the way we are. Take!!!
Entertaining guy, gives u all the papers ur going to write the 1st day. A lot of reading, sparknotes came in handy, a lot of movies. See play for 40pts on final. Bit forgetful, missed class a lot. Easy A if you do his papers exactly how he wants it. Don't skip, you will fail like the skippers in my class. Easy A just show up & do papers.
He is amazing. Loved my class. Long papers to write and formatting is critical. He gives great feedback on how to write. He focuses on the student's understanding. Tells a lot of hilarious stories. Can't wait to take Eng102. He allows rewrites at end of semester for better grades. Easy A and you learn a lot if you put the effort in.
Great teacher. His lectures and class are amazing. He is very funny and makes class go by quickly with his stories. I would definitely take him again.
Easy A! All you have to do is show up to class, take notes on literature you read and notes on movies you watch (which is every other class) and you will pass! A couple essays and final is open notebook (that's what the notes are for). Simple!
It's my 4th semester at Gateway meaning i've had the opportunity to experience with many different professors but, Professor Schnepf definitely has been my absolute favorite. Always comes to class with smile. Very down to earth. Makes class fly by with his interesting way of teaching & life lessons. Understanding. Always look forward to his class.
Professor Schnepf is hilarious! He loves Poe so get ready to read! Also a lot of papers but he chose awesome literature so it's not too bad! He's a big goofball but made coming to his class fun and his lectures make you laugh. I would definitely recommend him!
Prof. Schnepf is a really good one. He inspired me a lot and taught me how to write. His class was one of the hardest for me but I loved it. After saying "writing research papers is just like math..." he really got my attention.
Love of movie viewing but best 102 so far, he's a easy grader and allows you to rewrite so you can get a better grade
Professor Schnepf was by far one of the best professors I've ever had. He not only went to great lengths to really engage the class, he also told hilarious stories and taught me how to become a more advanced writer. He is a well-respected professor at the college and also the Chair of the department. I would take one of his courses again.
Schnepf is a real gem at Gateway. His lectures are amazing and the reading material is interesting. I have had him twice and each time gets better.
I took him during the 3 week winter semester because I am terrified of public speaking. (I wanted to get it over with) He was great and I wish the semester didn't end so soon. I took so much from this class and I wish i took it sooner. I strongly suggest taking professor shnepf
I had him for the winter term semester. He is amazing and I learned so much from him!!! He is fun and the class went by very quick and everyone did really well.
He's an awesome teacher! He gives a lot of assignments but he lets you re-do them as long as you hand them in on time and if you don't attend his classes, you won't pass the midterm & final (1/3 of your grade each) because the questions relate back to his lectures, make sure to take notes on everything! He does give a big extra credit for final
Professor Schnepf is the one of the best English professors you could have. His lectures are interesting and the man and super hilarious. I will say, if you hate to read I would not take his class, we read a lot of stories over the semester. He gives more than enough extra credit which majorly helped my grade. I fully recommend him.
Prof. Schnepf is a great professor. He had us write 3 different style papers based on 3 diff. reading materials & had us do a few other assignments. Was a lot of work but I took him during the summer semester, so there was a time crunch. He is very understanding but be prepared to work hard for your grade. Don't slack, stay focused& you'll be fine
Take it . Do what he asks for, easy going prof.
Professor challenges you go the distance when it comes to papers. He challenges your vocabulary and helps you build those skills for the workplace. He is also quite funny.
Professor Schnepf reminded me why I love reading and writing when I was close to giving it up. He's very inspiring, and you can tell how much he cares about his students. He wants us to learn and improve ourselves, beyond and in the classroom. He has opinions, but that doesn't get in the way of grading. Lots of good reading.
Doesnt communicate calls out a lot but never get notification of when hes out be ready to write and read a lot cool laid back person but very strict
Easy class and easy grader. lots of reading. bunch of short stories and 4 books. There are 3 major papers (5 pgs. each) on those 4 books. There are also a few short writing assignments. DON'T SKIP CLASS. TAKE NOTES. Final is open notes. plenty of extra credit. Prof. is nice but unclear at times.
He is really good professor I took with him winter 2017 COM 173.
As far as course material, it's a composition class so expect to write a lot. Typically had us write 1 or 2 short (500-600 word) papers each week, and 2-3 large (10+ pg) research papers to be done throughout the semester. What I disliked about him was his attitude/demeanor. He made a lot of jokes, but was rude/condescending when you asked for help.
Chester Schenpf is the best literature professor in Gateway. He makes you wake up and realize that life as we know it has patterns that need to be addressed. As the course went on, he highlighted the necessity to question everything around us, even the meaning of being a human being and what that implies in our current society.
There is a lot of reading to do. There are 3 books you will have to read, with plenty of time to finish as well as shorts from the textbook. They were interesting and enjoyable even the shorts from the text book. He makes the class fun and interesting. There were about 5 or 6 essays, some short. Very IMPROTANT to take notes on EVERYTHING.
I was very skeptical about this class but as soon as I had this prof a few days, it was clear I made a great choice. He has a lot of paper but in a reasonable time. He is very knowledgeable and I was afraid since he also teaches ENG 102 he would be grading paper even harder but he definitely separates the TWO. I LOVED THIS CLASS AND PROFESSOR!
It definitely took a few classes before he grew on me, but he had to be the best English teacher by far that I've had. There is a lot of writing, but as long as you stood on topic and wrote a decent amount, you would do well. His lectures, though he would get off topic sometimes, were really good and interesting. If I could take him again, I would!
Assigns his own poetry in a non literature class, cancels about half of courses. Tells some anecdotes repeatedly and claims to be approachable but just tells the same anecdotes and doesnt answer questions.
Professor Schnepf's lectures are engaging and inspirational at times. Pay attention to the lectures and take notes on everything he says. The final and midterm are open book in blue books and based on your reading of the assigned texts and in-class lectures. If you don't read the assigned texts and take notes you will set yourself up for failure.
Guy assigns huge papers way too often. If you work or have any obligations other then school, this guy gets in the way. Assigns papers 2-6000 words on subjects I had trouble writing 1000 words about
I Unfortunately had the opportunity of having this professor during COVID-19 Pandemic. Before the pandemic however, I didn't really learn anything on this course. He would spend a majority of his time in class to talk about his personal life. He does not use email or blackboard. Assigns a lot of HW with reading (heads up he may or may not collect).
This professor literally, and I mean LITERALLY, did not do his job Spring 2020. He didnt hold a single video class between March and May. He didnt post a single thing on blackboard. There was no feedback, no communication. Not to mention he was rude the few classes we had. Pls dont make my mistake, dont listen to the good reviews, dont take him
Though he's an overall nice guy, he doesn't know how to teach. Can be very condescending and rude at times, never uses blackboard and doesn't respond to emails. Lectures basically the entire class and then gives homework without following up on it. Definitely made for a hard semester.
Every assignment he wants from you has to be at least 350-400 words even if you are just writing answers to a couple questions to a play he assigns you to read. The assignments themselves are confusing and for me I can only write about 150 words and the rest would be gibberish. Half the stories/novels/articles we read aren't all that interesting
I would not recommend him unless you are really trying to waste your time reading things that he finds interesting. He often makes his classes about him. He encourages you to think for yourself but he is really just looking for you to validate his opinion. I wish I had not taken his class because I would have had time to do more important classes.
