Great prof easily understood and made a possibly dry material actually enjoyable
Solid teacher. cool guy overall. Made the course enjoyable
Great professor, always clear and helpful
A very nice person that is always happy to help any of his students. If every professor made the effort that he does, Laurier would be a much better place than it is.
Very enthusiastic, knows the material, and great explanations. Possibly the best prof I've had.
This was a great Calculus class. Every lesson was clear and straightforward. Chester explains most things well and loves to help. I did not even buy the textbook for this course. Just show up to each class, take notes and do the weekly WebWork, and you are guaranteed at least an 80-85 %. And also, the midterm i had from him was a joke, SO EASY.
The course material was hard, but Dr. Weatherby gave super clear explanation, and also neat lecture notes. The tests were a little bit hard, but he is not a though marker so that's fine. Love him! Would take every single course he instructed.
Dr. Weatherby made first year calc so easy. I could not thank him enough for helping me kill it this year.
Chester is an amazing professor. He knows his stuff and he's not afraid to help you out if you don't understand the material. His lectures were amazing too, and he provides notes for you which were a plus.
If Ping Zhang took a proof course with Weatherby, he would fail.... And he has a PHD from Oxford
Extremely clear lecturer. Do the modules that he gives you the option to do! They're a life saver at the end of the course. Midterm was easy but the final was difficult. Labs are difficult but the Webwork is decent. Amazing professor, amazing person.
Very very well prepared, never messes up in a lecture, on the few occasion he does, he quickly catches himself. The course packs he has really helps and made the material as easy as possible to learn, motivating me to be my best. Great personality and get a sense of a very intelligent and well rounded person. Would love to have him as a prof again.
great professor
Great lecture notes!
Solid guy! Great prof overall, very simple explanations and easy to understand lectures. Offers bonus marks and always wants to see his students succeed.
Extremely clear speaker and always ready to help students out.
Excellent presentation of course material, a very nice person, and ready to help all students. The best at the university, as far as I've seen. The model professor that all others should learn from.
The homework is straightforward, the labs are impossible.
Gives good, concrete examples in class. Explains all topics thoroughly. Funny. Excellent diction.
Gives very clear explanations during lectures. Excellent prof
Amazing prof! For MA103 you can get a course pack which is partly filled notes which makes it really nice! He really cares and is an amazing teacher!
Good prof. However, if you ask him a question, he won't answer it in a way that helps the student out fully. But he knows his material very well and is good at explaining concepts even though the course moves at a very fast pace.
Chester is very clear in his lectures and rarely makes mistakes. He definitely wants everybody to do well. Amazing prof
Hope Dr. Weatherby teaches all math courses
Great professor, definitely one of the best I've ever had.
Chester is the best prof ever. I think he should win prof of the century. Granted, i didn't attend many of his lectures but overall a great guy that wants all of his students to do well. Do your homework and ask him directly about things you're lost on and you'll get an A.
Amazing prof! You should be ready for tests as long as you going to his classes
Chester is a great math prof! At the beginning of the class he does a brief overview of the concepts covered from the previous lecture, and then its a solid hour of examples, theorems, and proofs. He is cheerful, and really does care about the success of the class. Ask questions, practice the problems, and make a concept sheet -- you'll do well!
Dr. Weatherby didn't post notes online so you had to attend class. His midterm and exam was fair and questions were similar to in class examples. He is easy to listen to and understand in class.
Great prof!
Professor Weatherby is an excellent prof. Very clear in his explanations and incredibly helpful and nice when talking to him 1 on 1 in office hours.
He is a really nice professor. He explains the material very well and organizes class note very clear. If you have any questions, try to come his office hour which is very helpful. This course needs do more exercises compare with MA103. IF YOU DO NOT ATTEND THE LECTURE THEN YOU SHOULD READ THE TEXTBOOK!
I just finished MA 250 with Professor Weatherby -- if this class is required for you TAKE IT WITH HIM! His Homework Assignments were tough, and force you to learn the material -- I always found that he marked fairly, and the clarity of his lectures, and notes were of great help. Thanks for making the hardest class I've taken so far such a joy :)
He is the best Prof I have met. Helps me in class and challenges according to my level
Course pack is awesome! He uses partially-populated notes which are excellent for studying and understanding the course material. This is my favourite lecture to attend.
Very intimidating in office hours, but lectures are well set up and he explains difficult concepts well.
Weatherby is an amazing prof and I would highly recommend him for any class. He gives some of the best lectures I've seen, office hours are amazingly helpful and overall he really wants everyone to succeed.
Weatherby gives you a course pack so your notes are pretty much fill in the blank which is super helpful. You can tell he's super smart too and also he's pretty helpful in office hours although sometimes he gets a little mad if the question you're asking him was covered in class even though you just didn't understand it.
Professor Weatherby is absolutely the best prof Ive had so far. Amazing, clear lectures, very clear about his expectations, fair exams, and easy to reach outside of class, whether that be in person or online. Course pack was also an amazing way to teach calculus. Very reminiscent of high school notes. More than excited for MA104 with him.
Lectures are mandatory, but only because they're so informative. Amazing guy that cares about his students and their learning in the course. He even made his own note pack that you can buy from the bookstore and fill throughout the semester. Exams are fair. Great prof
Can't say enough good things about Dr. Weatherby!
I had Weatherby for both MA103 and MA104. A fantastic prof across both classes. Extremely helpful lectures and office hours, and also gives really good advice pertaining to math in general. Cannot recommend him enough, and RIP to those taking calculus without him next year. Best prof at Laurier.
Dr. Weatherby is a phenomenal lecturer. His lectures are really clear and logical to follow. MA250 is definitely an intimidating course but as long as you keep up with the homework & pay attention in class you'll do well. Only concern is that he's intimidating to ask questions to but he's willing to put in the time if you put in the effort.
The online situation was not handled well. His lecture videos were recordings that just touched on content and his only office hours to ask for help or further your understanding was one day a week with hundreds of students of which he wouldn't work through problems and didn't really answer any questions you had. had to learn content myself
Chester Weatherby was an okay professeur. Maybe things would have been different in person but, Calculus is not an easy course. His content will not I'll you through the exam. Make sure you go over the textbook's questions to prepare for labs and exams.
My experience with him in a remote learning environment was not good. Pre-recorded asynchronous lectures for the entire course made it really hard to stay committed and motivated. You can't ask questions during the lectures since they are pre-recorded. Only 1 hour of office hours, once a week. Very hard exam as well, marked very hard.
Overall Weatherby was an OK prof at best. This course online was just pre recorded lectures, and weekly lab assignments. Midterm was fair, but exam was very tough. For fall 2020 he would do office hours like twice a week for one hour which would make it very difficult to get your questions answered. He didn't really communicate with his students.
In Fall 2020, lectures were prerecorded, which was nice for building your own schedule. Some didn't like it, but I thought it was fine as long as you keep on top of it. I felt the midterm and exam were fair and straightforward if you did all the homework. The camera requirement to see your hands was a little annoying though.
Chester is a decent prof, nothing that special. Compared to other first year math profs I've had, Chester is amazing but that doesn't say much. Online lectures were really hard to stay focused but in person he is much better. Super hard weekly labs and midterm in MA104
Definitely the best math prof I've had at Laurier so far. The class is challenging and he makes that clear from day 1. The midterm and final were very fair considering what could've been on it. The in person lectures were much better than the online ones. Just put in the work and you'll be fine.
Gives clear explanations, and is very open to questions
The best
Honestly, Chester Weatherby is a good professor, but the fact that he doesn't post his notes online (like other profs) and you have to buy a course pack for $40-50 while other profs don't require the course pack and post notes online, is not fair.
Amazing. He gives very clear explanations and you can tell he really enjoys teaching. His lectures are very informative and he does a lot of useful examples in class, so I'd recommend not skipping lectures.
I mostly watched YouTube videos for this course and since I lived off campus, due to the weather, sometimes it was hard to make it to his lectures and not worth it other times. There's lots~ of homework, seriously, anyone taking this course with Weatherby or another prof, do ALL the homework and weekly webwork (online weekly homework).
Very good lectures understood the material perfectly. Does not post lecture notes but at the same time that made sure students went to class, came with pros and cons. Very good in office hours happy to explain course material. Held frequent review sessions outside of lecture hours. Very good prof. God bless
Lectures certainly mandatory as he does not post notes online, however going to his lectures is infinitely better than reading through the textbook. Engaging and interesting lectures and tests very fairly based on what you learn in lectures/labs. If you go to lectures and actually practice the material I think an A- at the least is guarenteed.
Very good prof. Taught very well.
The subject was tough but Dr.Weatherby made it easier. Tons of office hours on different days. Extra office hours before midterms and exams. Extra review sessions before midterms and finals. Unlimited attempts for a 5% bonus (on your final grade). Weekly posts on the course website summarizing the content covered that week and key things to review.
Best math professor I have had, I personally like math but most profs make it miserable. However, Chester made the course so enjoyable and easy to understand and follow through with. He's always ready to help and replies back to emails instantly. Such a nice guy, you don't ever feel like your being judged for asking a stupid question.
Amazing professor. I'm not a big fan of math and struggle to get a hold of it. Dr.Weatherby teaches well, explains concepts thoroughly, and doesn't hesitate to help if needed. He always makes us feel welcome and loves his job, making his teaching much more understandable as he makes learning enjoyable. Definitely one of the professors at Laurier.
Overall, he's better than many of the other math professors I've had and seen, but I don't know why he decided to put content from Calculus 2 in the final?! I appreciate just learning it and getting a grasp of it if I ever take calc 2, but it's way harder and different than calc 1 and ruins a lot of students grades. Other than that, he's good.
Dr. Weatherby is an amazing prof, makes you buy a course pack with all the notes for the semester and helps so much. Very very fair prof as the midterm and exams had no surprises and were very straightforward difficulty. Goes in depth with everything we cover and overall an amazing prof.
He genuinely cares about his students and is always willing to clarify/provide help as needed. The course was not easy by any means, but as long as you keep up with the content and do practice questions regularly, you should do fine. The course pack is also incredibly helpful. As far as math profs go, he is the best of the best.
Weatherby is literally the GOAT. Best prof I've had at Laurier. He genuinely cared about his students actually doing well in the course and understanding the material. Go to his office hours and make yourself known. Just overall a great person!
Good prof. Lectures are optional but are worth going to. Tough subject, though. Homework is marked but it helps a lot if you spend a little more time trying to understand the homework. Pulled through without much studying apart from doing the mock midterm.
Only prof that can teach at laurier, buy the course pack
Amazing lectures, very kind and funny man. Clearly teaches content, making it easy to understand. Exams were fair, but definitely study hard for final. Kind of screwed if you miss lectures as he does not post all his notes.
For a tough course like MA103, Professor Weatherby is amazing at teaching and explaining. He's incredibly fair on midterms and exams and is one of the best professors for such a challenging subject. A true breath of fresh air in our science/math faculty. would 100% recommend him to anyone taking this course.
He's a good prof, but he can overcomplicate things.
I accidentally chose him as my professor in my first two terms. I'm going to accidentally choose him as my professor in my next two terms.
The greatest prof I have ever had. Guys mastered the art of teaching, wish I got him for MA103 as well.
Even though you have to spend extra for the course pack it is worth the purchase.
Very helpful. Going to class was helpful especially after the midterm. Before midterm was very similar to highschool calculus.
Chester had awesome lectures, talked through concepts thoroughly. Had lots of office hours for students and made the midterm and final really easy (in my opinion). Overall a really nice and laid back guy!
He's a very caring teacher that wants you to succeed. Attend the lectures if you want to get a good grade.
Amazing lessons, super clear explanations and he's very accessible during office hours if you need extra help. Mock midterms/exams are almost identical to the actual ones minus like one page, as long as you understand the topics from the textbook you'll be totally good.
Course is taught extremely well and imo can be passed without much additional work other than being fully focused in lecture/lab
The professor has put is lecture notes into a course pack charging $50. Seems like a selfish practice to make a quick buck.
hes honestly a super chill dude, just don't like having to spend $50 on his coursepack. make sure to attend the lectures because he writes notes that are usually used in the labs. do the textbook practice enough + prepare for the labs, and you should get an easy 12 (especially with the bonus 5% modules) . also i fw his fits hard
Very good and knowledgeable, the midterm was easy. He is very funny and explains topics super well would definitely take him again.
The best math prof of all time, 10/10 MA103 is too easy with this man.
Best prof ever, he has a *optional* but highly reccomended notebook for the course, and it makes all the difference, its all his lecture slides made into a book with blanks for examples he teaches in lectures. It has everything you need to pass the class. Labs are exactly what is taught in lectures. 10/10 would take again, great class, great prof
great professor, great lectures
Dr. Weatherby may be the goat. He goes really quick and the class sucks but he makes it the most enjoyable it could be. I am fine being his #1 glazer.
The best professor for a mathematics course single handedly. Coming from someone who previously had issues with math, if you ask him for help he will give you great advice and makes it simple to understand.
Used a blank workbook that allowed us to fill in notes while he was teaching which made everyone very attentive and focused. His teaching is understandable and he seems to care a lot about his students.
Overall he's a good prof, clear and concise but can go very fast. I found the final to be easier than the midterm, but you should study for both intensely as 70% of the grade for this course was based on exams. (make sure to bring the proper calculator for your final/midterm as he inspects them during the exam)
