This guy is hard! Very monotonous and boring in lecture....
really a very cool prof. for the most part hes pretty easy and you may actually learn something. he seems kinda mundane but when you get to know him in class hes really kool
I think he is a great teacher. The tests can be difficult at times, but you learn a lot. I really reccomend him.
Chester is awesome! He is obviously enthused about the subject matter in the class. He's eager to answer any questions you may have. 4 tests and a final. All essay tests which are open book. You learn A LOT in this class...TAKE IT!
Awesome teacher-knows a lot about the subjects covered and gives pretty easy essay tests. Highly recommended!
Learn a****load - seriously. The man was boring for first lecture, then I read his bio on the back of the syllabus and ever since then I've loved the man. He knows SO MUCH - and he's pretty good at dumbing himself down so you can understand the material. Tests = challenging, but you CAN get an A.
he is a really good professor! 4 tests, and 1 final.
Very monotonous and boring was theh first impression. BUT! This guys is awesome. If you study well enough to understand 80%, you're prepared for his tests because Open book & notes will cover rest of 20%. He is the man!

Good class
This class is hard, very hard. I thought I would be alright at it, but the way he teaches the class makes it difficult. He turns you loose after one time of exaplining something and expects you to pick up right away. However, he's a pretty cool guy - dry humor, but he's not bad.
He is very good. Class is not boring because he breaks it up. I took him in the summer and it was great. Very possible to get an A. He's available for help whenever. Grading is fair, clear, and there are many componets that make up your grade. Tests can be take home and you have plenty of time-he will also help steer you in the right direction.
I took his classes from 1997-2001 and he was by far the best prof that I've had.Very willing to to meet with you privately anytime you needed some guidance.Cheers to Dr. Willson, I miss taking his classes.
Awesome teacher! Tests are open books, open notes, essay ... and you know the ?'s before the test !!! Very funny, kind of weird .. I <3'd him!
Knows the material well. VERY straight forward tests but a lot of work to study for. Easy to get a B, a little harder to get the A.
He is a little strange, but can be amusing. He rambles a lot...can put you to sleep if you aren't interested or don't understand what he's talking about. (I've done this a few times...) His tests are open book, open notes, which is definatly a good thing. TRY to take notes in class. He's a decent grader. I've done better in his class than I expecte
Really nice guy. His labs are really easy-usually less than the two hours. Open notes tests and decent in difficulty, all essay Q's. Even though he will tell you the questions on the test, it's really hard to study for.
Sure he studied moss for fun, bit Chet is a nice guy. He talks very quietly and can be looking for more work than some, but he grades really easy and the labs are very short. Take a chance on him!
Wilson is a great prof. He has a dry, sattirical sense of humor that I enjoy. He does a good job explaining the material, and is very helpful if you don't understand it. The tests are all take-home, but they are tough and require a good amount of work. Not too tough to get an A in though, if you work at it.
He goes into detail about what you need to know, but does it quickly and doesn't give you time to catch on. Tests are take-home, but they take forever, at least a couple of hours!
Very intresting course. Prof. Wilson makes it fun. He is also very clear in what he wants, and a fair grader. His tests can be hard, but they are all open book, and notes exams. He wants you to understand the concepts more than worry about memorizing things. Labs are pretty easy and fun. I liked the class and nhim as a prof.
Chessy gave me my only B here at UST. He really knows the material, but he organizes the tests in a way that make it hard to know exactly what he wants from you. If you're looking to just fill the general requirement, I'd go somewhere else because this is the hardest general course I've taken here.
He's a great guy. Interesting classes, good discussions, a little quick but very friendly and helpful.
He is a great guy, funny sense of humor. Class goes by fast. See him before the test, he'll give you BIG hints.
Not really an effective speaker in regards to drawing you into listening to what he has to stay. Think of listening to Mr. Mackey for 1.5 hrs. and you'll get a good idea of what your in for.
Cool Teacher! Gives helpful hints and open book test. The test however are essay and requires you to be very specific. Also he is a little boring, and really goes through the material fast, so don't fall back on reading the chapters.
Took during J-term, highly recommend, made an intense class with lots of information run smoothly and clearly. Very interested in what he is teaching
Great teacher open notes open book test. Nice can talk to him anytime you have a question
A gentleman and a scholar. Absolutely the best teacher I've had at St. Thomas. Is very good at making the course relevant to real world application. Very precise, meticulous, yet thoroughly interesting lecture style. Definitely recommended.
Great Prof, easy class that can be dull sometimes but fun most of the time. No in class exams, grades easy, always around to answer questions. He brings in food for the class alot. I highly recommending taking Chester for any bio class if you can.
Chester is a wonderful man who truly loves biology. This is a great class for non-majors, and although the lectures are dull at times, it isnt a hard class. He makes it fun and interesting! I totally recommend this class!
Dr. Wilson is nerdy and therefore knows his stuff pretty well and seems to enjoy teaching. Class lecture is not always necessary and there is no textbook, but other books are required for essays. No exams only lab reports and essays, which i loved. He is helpful and kind. Grades pretty easily especially when he can tell you put forth effort.
Chester is a laid back guy. He has no real due dates, which was disastrous for me. He is super nice, but I would of wished it was more stimulating of a class than it was.
Chester Wilson!! I had him for 202 lab and he was AWESOME! My only wish was that he taught more upper-level classes. Take him!!
Chester knows his stuff. He is always open to answer any question you may have. I definitely recommend this class!
His power points are useless tey are all pictures. He puts random stuff on his tests that he didn't cover. He's a nice guy he just sucks as a professor I learned more reading the text the. I did from him
Excellent professor, incredibly kind, and actually somewhat funny. The only problem is his voice is...soft. It will put you to sleep if you're not careful, so be aware of that. Sometimes the essay exams (which are take home) surprise you with questions you wouldn't expect. Labs are fairly easy, fun a,d the write-ups (reports) aren't that bad.
He is a very good professor. Very easy to understand, he teaches the class as a true 100 level class. Very helpful at office hours. If you read the material, attend the lectures and ask questions this class will be very manageable. I would highly advise taking entry level BIO classes with Professor Wilson.
Tough material, tough grader, not a fan.
Some people like him, but I didn't. He has a soft voice, so I literally fell asleep everyday. His powerpoints aren't helpful and are filled with pictures of random organisms and himself. During the math of Bio 207, he just threw a sheet of equations at us and I had no idea how to use it. My friends had to go to tutoring in order to learn biology.
Chester is a wonderful person, but a terrible professor. The only way I scored well on the tests was by reading the textbook. His power points are impossible to take notes on because all he shows are pictures. He does a good job of relating concepts to real life, but not a good job of explaining the concepts themselves. DO NOT RECOMMEND.
Dr. Wilson uses powerpoints with pictures only, so it is imperative to go to lecture in order to get the explanation. He uses good examples with real life applications, and is good about giving a heads up about what will be on the tests. He has a hilarious, dry sense of humor and rockin' style. I would take him again.
My favorite professor that I've ever had.
He is a great teacher, gave us 4 exams and they were all open-note essays with multiple days to write them. Lectures can get long though. Bring your laptop to take notes on his powepoints that are posted on blackboard because he uses a ton of graphicsdiagrams that are difficult to copy down into your notebook.
He's a super helpful professor and made the class pretty easy! He's really funny and personable and I'd highly suggest taking him!
Dr. Wilson is a really good professor! he makes his lectures interesting and his test are really not difficult if you pay attention in class
Chester is awesome, this course is kind of dry and he make the entire class laugh through it. He is thebomb .com
Chester is one of my favorite teachers I have. He does not give a lot of homework and all of the quizzes are in a group. The tests are pretty strait forward and he even lets you use the articles that you need to write short essays. His lectures are kind of boring, but he always throws in some funny jokes. Overall great guy!
There were definitely some pros to having Chester for BIO 207. There was almost no homework, you got to talk to other students for help during quizzes, and he encourages group work. However, his powerpoints weren't helpful and his soft voice made me fall asleep. He keeps track of who comes to class, so you don't want to skip the lectures.
Chester is a great professor even though his class is hard. but took this at 8am and his voice put me to sleep often. he is funny and cares. plays music before class, gives a break. lab is hard but its all group work. would take from him again.
Dr. Wilson leads a very interesting lecture. Although it can get boring sometimes, it is easy to follow. His tests are mostly conceptual, and his quizzes and given in group form. Easy class to pass as long as you know how to write short answers and essay questions.
Professor Wilson is extremely caring and wants everyone to succeed. His tests are difficult (no multiple choice) and the questions on them are harder versions of the ones gone over in class. Quizzes are relatively easy because they are usually taken in groups. If you need extra help he is very willing to dedicate time to you. He's super funny too
I had him for Bio 207 first semester of freshman year. He let us do group quizzes which was nice. Didn't like his teaching style, as he used powerpoints but it was mostly just pictures and he'd tell stories so it was hard to take notes. I had a hard time with the tests, as they're all essay questions and I never knew what to study.
Dr. Wilson is an extremely intelligent individual who leads engaging and humorous lectures. He focuses heavily on mathematics in his course. It is quite difficult at times, but it leads to a deeper and more concrete understanding of the concepts at hand. His powerpoints are mostly pictures, but if you take good notes you will succeed!
Chester's dry humor is hilarious. He is also super smart and you can tell he knows a lot about the topic. His lectures can be hard to follow, but as long as you study the material, the tests won't be too hard. The tests consist of 5-6 short answer questions based off of interpreting tables and figures. There are a few group quizzes and only 3 tests
Wilson was the best, but pay attention in class. Write down everything on the powerpoints (I recommend having your laptop open so you can see the powerpoint a little easier-he can move fast with the slides). Grades are based solely on tests (quizzes don't really affect your grade). Join a study group and you'll get an A.
Chester is a nice guy and very funny, but his class is the worst. Doesn't really teach material relating to 207 and just gives random examples. Makes you read his personal writing which has hardly any relevance. Is not really helpful in office hours and his office is a black hole-loses a lot. You'll never know your grade in the class until the end.
If you come to class and take good notes you'll pass. Tests are about 5 open-ended questions that test whether you know the concepts rather than petty details. Sometimes he gave us test questions beforehand. He uses many real life examples in lecture to demonstrate the material.
Tests are based on lecture material. His ppts and notes are mostly pictures and examples he uses to explain overall concepts. He is quirky and funny and his office hours are very open. Not responsive to email and forgets non-office hour meetings.
He lectures for each class period but most of the time gives examples without fully explaining the concepts. Tests are 5 questions all short answer and there are group quizzes. Not very hard to get an A, but do not take him if you really want to understand the concepts. Grade not viewable in the grade book, hard to reach outside of office hours.
Great professor! He's very good at simplifying things because he used to be a middle school teacher. Very practical and allows/encourages group work. All tests are open note, open book, take home. Quizzes are very easy. Take his class!!
Dr. Wilson is an okay professor. He is quite boring and loves biology and thinks students do too. Do not take his class at 8am. Don't do it. His powerpoint are almost all pictures and he doesn't explain things well. Be prepared to learn on your own. Unit exams that are 5 essay q's and weekly quizzes that are partner and open notes. no homework ever
Dr. Wilson was an excellent teacher, however be prepared to show up and listen to him talk the whole time, he does examples and such but you rarely write down useful notes. The tests were quite written based, most of the problems were word problems and you had to write down your answers and do a little math. Attendance is not a huge deal. Good guy
super easy class. The prof is a good guy but his criteria isn't very clear. However, tests are super easy. Textbook isn't needed
Dr. Wilson is a really fun, kind professor. All of his tests are essay based and fairly easy unless the section involves mathematics/statistics then you will have to do calculations. You have to go to lectures to really understand his powerpoints and materials as he is a bit disorganized and you won't get grades until very late, but overall good!
Chester is a fun professor that people either love or hate. Class time is dedicated to his powerpoint slides with various random examples. Tests ask broad essay questions, but still require some specific knowledge. The very first test really brought my grade down, but once you understand his style, the class is easy.
Overall, this class wasn't bad. However, he puts NOTHING in the grade book, so you have no feedback on what your grade looks like until you see it as a final grade. On top of that, he rarely responds to emails, you have to track him down during his office hours, and his lab section was incredibly boring. He's a great guy, but not my fave prof.
The tests were all 6 question short anwser questions. You need to know your stuff for sure. Make sure you read and focus in class and you will be fine!
He's a nice guy, but has a monotone voice. tests were all essay questions and he was looking for very particular things, and he doesn't explain what you got wrong or why, just takes points off. not great at communication. you think you would do well, but somehow it's not enough and you don't get the grade you expect.
Chester's lecture get very long and boring but if you take notes in them you will have all the information you need. His tests are all very conceptual but your overall grade is based on just the tests and a few quizzes. I recommend joining a STEM study group if you have him for the extra learning and extra credit opportunity.
Dr. Wilson is an okay prof for bio207. I wouldnt take him again because I felt he was dry for the material and didnt explain project assignments well.
Chester is a really great guy. He's a lot of fun and has a very calming voice-kind of like Bob Ross. He doesn't give a lot of homework and as long as you understand the material the tests aren't hard at all.
Definitely not the worst professor, but it is difficult to sit through his lectures. His voice is super monotone and he will always go on a tangent about something. Takes forever to put a test grade in the grade book. Overall, a super nice, caring guy, but he could for sure work on making lectures more to-the-point and keeping it concise.
He is super unorganized and terrible at responding to emails. I emailed him twice to set up meetings to talk about papers and never replied to me once. His BIO105 class was originally supposed to be synchronous online and he didn't realized that until halfway through the semester. Not good at all. Would not take again.
Easy yet tough, but a good time
Wilson is a nice guy, very monotone. He has his funny moments, and is overall pretty helpful. However, his lectures are very long and boring and he sometimes goes off on tangents. You really need to pay attention/take notes esp for exams. He is a more harder professor but isn't too bad. One big complaint is he takes long grading your stuff though.
Though Mr. Wilson's love for biology is clear, his lack of ability to provide information in his lectures that is seen on tests makes him one of the worst professors I have ever taken. His lectures include roughly 90% of unnecessary information and 10% of relative material. I would recommend searching for an alternate professor.
Professor Wilson is an old-school teacher. Almost all of his classes are lectures, his slideshows are incredibly plain, and he doesn't use Canvas very much. He takes forever to grade your exams and papers, which are fairly difficult. He's a nice guy and he definitely cares about biology, but his teaching style was personally not the best for me.
He speaks very quietly so sit up front. If you don't understand something ask, and he will happily help you through it. I recommend going to his office hours. I will say his canvas is unorganized but it just takes a while to get used to.
Wilson is a passionate professor. He talks very quietly so sit up front. Every exam is hand written, and after every exam there is an essay that is about that topic. He is willing to help, he has study sessions the night before the exam, and he basically tells you what is on the exam.
He wants his students to succeed and is willing to help. His lectures are dry, and his slides need more material for notes (they're usually just images and him talking). He made it challenging to stay engaged and learn what was going on.
